5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Fantastic
This has to be the most wonderful musical ever.My family has worn out so many tapes, we can't wait for it to finally come out in DVD.I would recommend this to anyone who loves music and comedy.Children absolutely are fascinated with all of the dancing and love to sing along.Everyone should experience this once.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Gilbert and Sullivan!!!
I first saw this version as a child when it originally came out and I really am dissappointed that I can't own it yet!!! It is one of my favorite operas and I think the version with Angela Lansbury is the best!!! You would think that with all of these known actors that this film would be on DVD. It has always been a favorite and really helped open the door to music as a child!
5-0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Favorite!
I love Gilbert & Sullivan and I love The Pirates of Penzance. I have the Broadway version (Kevin Kline, Linda Ronstadt) on DVD, however, this movie version will always be my favorite. I really wish they would produce a DVD. Please??????

5-0 out of 5 stars Indian Love Call Classic
If ever a film deserved the label "classic romance," Rose Marie is the one.It starts out kinda slow, but gradually builds to a heartwrenching climax. Marie de Flor (Jeanette MacDonald) is an opera star who learns her brother, John Flower (James Stewart) has escaped from prison, allegedly killing a Canadian Royal Mounted Police in the process, and is in hiding.De Flor hires an Indian guide to take her tohim.Along the way into the Canadian wilderness, she meets up with Sgt. Bruce (Nelson Eddy),the Mounty tracking down her brother. She starts to give him a false name, "Rose . . ." but he recognizes her as a star, and assumes her full name is Rose Marie de Flor.Sgt. Bruce is immediately attracted to de Flor, but before long he guesses her relationship Flower, his prey. It's one of the all time classic dilemmatic situations as love develops between the two, who are each using the other to their own, opposite ends. De Flor depends on Bruceto survive the rugged trek through the wilderness, not knowing how much he knows; he expects her to lead him to her brother, while pretending to be along to protect her.I don't think it's ever been done more effectively, with "Indian Love Call" adding a haunting effect all the while. The cast also includes Reginald Owen, Alan Mowbray, Una O'Connor, and David Niven in an early, one scene, bit part.

5-0 out of 5 stars Poignant and haunting...
There is poignancy at the heart of this movie. It's a love story and love comes at a high price.Rose Marie, like many Eddy-MacDonald films, is filled with love and loss, yearning and sacrifice. The final scene of Rose Marie demonstrates these characteristics perhaps better than any of their other movies. This is a fine film, but it is dated and should be viewed in the context of its time. There are laughs, romance, bittersweet moments and beautiful, heart-felt singing. The MacDonald-Eddy chemistry is magical. This is a movie that should not be overlooked or forgotten. It will stay with you after you've seen it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertainment at its best
Rose Marie has it all. Wonderful music, a great story. Good clean entertainment. As for acting, this is Jeanette's and Nelson's best. It is also the first movie Jimmy Stewart was in.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great Disney classic
The jungle book is about a human boy named Mowgli who is raised by a pack of wolves in the jungle, until it is decided that he can't stay in the jungle anymore. Bagheera has problems getting Mowgli back to the man village, because Mowgli dosen't want to leave the jungle. Then Mowgli meets baloo the bear. After an encounter with the mad King Louie of the apes, and pressed to return to the man village by Baloo and Bagheera, Mowgli runs away. Later on, Mowgli meets Shere Khan, the tiger. I can't tell you what happens at the end, you'll have to see for yourself. Unfortunately, halfway through the production of the jungle book, Walt Disney died. If you want more jungle fun, be sure to check out The Jungle book 2. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Why Can't We All Just Get Along for Love's Sake
It's a 60's remake of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Maria and Tony come from two different ethnic backgrounds, but what they do share is the love and passion they have for one other. However, their already fueding families would never accept such a union and blood will be shed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Words cant describe the beauty and splender of this movie
This is the best movie ever created and that is all that needs to be said. Many people who have reviewed this product state that the gangs are fighting eachother with ballet, and that there is no such thing as love at first sight and that the plot makes no sense. Dont listen to these people. buy this DVD and you will be blown off your feet.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Musical Ever Put On Film --- And Then Some!
I've seen this show on Broadway several times, in community theatre at least twice and have seen the movie more times than I can count, but this DVD edition is absolutely wonderful! Especially great for a film buff like me are the hefty special features and even a copy of the screenplay. This retelling of the Romeo and Juliet story in the streets of New York just can't be beat on any front, from the opening bird's eye views to the closing pull-back from the playground and even the masterful credits (to give everyone time to dry their eyes before the lights came on) is a great addition to any movie musical fan's DVD collection. ... Editorial Review

This yoga set is perfect for busy people who need to work in a way to relax. On the a.m. tape, Rodney Yee takes you through a 15-minute morning yoga set, while Patricia Walden leads a 20-minute evening routine on the p.m. tape. The a.m. tape was filmed on a beach on Maui at sunrise, providing a soothing background for this gentle workout. In the morning, Rodney tells us, "the body is rested but stiff from inactivity." The stretches he demonstrates are designed to increase circulation, improve mobility, and bring clarity to your mind. The movements are easy to follow (they include a conscious relaxation, the a.m. workout, and a guided meditation), and the set is short enough that it can be squeezed into the most hectic of morning schedules. The p.m. video was filmed at sunset in Death Valley. Patricia's yoga set is designed to quiet the mind after the stress of the day and to help you make the transition from active to quiet. She uses a combination of a centering series, standing poses, forward bends, and restorative poses to help you ease into night. You will need some firm blankets to sit on and a yoga strap (although a belt or scarf will serve the same purpose) to perform these movements. Perfect for the beginner and for the overworked. 5-0 out of 5 stars Why is this movie so underrecognized?
I haven't seen this movie in a while, but I absolutely loved it as a child. Just a warning, though: I've never cried so hard at ANY movie. I actually thought my heart would break for these cartoon animals. But while I'm not sure why such tragic moments are necessary for kids to endure (this is why my sister refuses to watch it), it remains one of my favorites from Disney.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Underrated Disney Classic.
The Fox and The Hound was made in a time when Disney animation had lost some of its luster . It was one of the last films of the old guard until the transition to the highly popular animated musical "The Little Mermaid". Probably because of this it was not as highly regarded as many of the early classics and the post Mermaid period.
4-0 out of 5 stars Correct screen ratio! This movie IS FULL FRAME!
O.K. I can answer the many questions about the correct screen ratio of THE FOX AND THE HOUND.

Winner of the Academy Award for best picture of 1989, this gracefully moving drama, adapted from the hit play by Alfred Uhry, chronicles the 25- year friendship between a stubborn, aging Southern widow (Jessica Tandy) and her loyal chauffeur (Morgan Freeman). At first, the self-sufficient Miss Daisy is reluctant to accept the services of a chauffeur, but Hoke is quiet, wise, and tolerant, and as the years pass the unlikely friends develop a deep mutual respect and admiration. Tandy deservedly won the Oscar for her sassy and sensitive performance, and Freeman earned an Oscar nomination for bringing quiet depth and integrity to his memorable role. Ironically, director Bruce Beresford (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm loving Miss Daisy
My wife raved about this movie for months before I actually sat down and watched it, and after the credits began to roll I think I enjoyed it more than she did. What I expected to bore me to tears in actuality kept me well entertained for its entire duration. The story of an elderly stubborn southern woman named Daisy and her chauffeur Hoke rose from ashes of mediocrity and became a brilliantly scripted and acted film about learning to accept people for who they are on the inside, not on the outside.Jessica Tandy is brilliant as Daisy. When she crashes her car her son Boolie (Aykroyd) makes it known she can no longer drive and hires a chauffeur for her. That chauffeur is quite and well mannered Hoke (Freeman), a black man who wins over Daisy's heart, and ours too, with his mild manner and caring concern for his employer. The chemistry between the two of them is so spot on it makes the entire film a delight.I'm not surprised it won for best picture, I'm delighted!

5-0 out of 5 stars Driving Miss Daisy
I'm 15 years behind most of you, but I've seen it now. It's wonderful. Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman. This film covers 15 or 20 years in the life of Miss Daisy, beginning with her wrecking the car. Her son hires a chauffeur against her wishes. Etc. Dan Ackroyd shows us that he can act. After GHOSTBUSTERS and BLUES BROTHERS I had my doubts.
4-0 out of 5 stars Driving Miss Daisy (Special Edition)
Finally a decent, dirt-speck free, clean print of this fine film. Also includes a few new bonus extras on the making of the film, as well as interesting commentary by its director. It'll make you want to head south for a plate of fried green tomatoes! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Best workout tape I have ever bought!
This is the best workout tape I have ever bought.I read all the reviews on amazon and I was curious what everyone one was talking about, now I know.Thisvideo is encouraging, it really make you push yourself.I really hate cardio workouts with steps that go on forever. However this cardio is fast upbeat and a challenge. The toning segments, despite being over a decade old are still a challenge.I recommend this video if you really need that extra push to get your exercise routine going. This tape features two workouts it is worth the investment.

The best thing about this prenatal yoga program is that there is a modelfor each trimester. Instructor Shiva Rea demonstrates each of the stretches andexercises for the first trimester, and two pregnant women show modifications forthe second and third trimesters (they're even dressed in different colors foreasy reference). This removes the self-doubt home-exercisers often have aboutthe safety of certain moves--especially in that cumbersome final stage ofpregnancy. Using gentle voice-over instruction, Rea and her assistants takeviewers through a half hour of meditational stretches using blocks and chairsfor support. She follows that up with 16 minutes of floor work: lunge pose, bridge pose, child's pose, plank pose--all with the necessary adjustments. Shewinds things up with a four-minute guided relaxation on her back--thetraditional position--with the second-trimester woman on her side and the thirdon her side with one leg up on a chair. By including the different adaptations,Rea has made a program with the flexibility to carry an expectant mom through herentire pregnancy--and beyond, if she wishes. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Renaissance Alpha Man
This movie remains my all time favorite western classic. I work with teen boys, teaching and training them in the traits and habits needed th be successful men.I use this film to help drive home my message. Clint Walker, as Big Jim Cole, epitimizes the essence of manhood. He exhibits honor, courage, compassion, integrity, strength, fidelity, respect, self reliance, love and mercy. As a family man he is the spiritual leader of his household. His wife, Angie, respects and adores him. He is unabashed in his love for her. His children love and look up to him. As a man he has the strength of character and courage to face an assortment of deadly challenges bent on destroyng him and his family. He engages his enemies with determined resolve, steady nerves and manly strength.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Family Classic
I grew up watching this movie with my dad.On Friday nights he would ask what movie I wanted to watch and I would always say "The Night of the Grizzly".There are a few scary scenes with the Grizzly but nothing to graphic. It's a story of a hardworking family getting through the rough times.A great movie for the entire family to enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars A family tames the West
This atypical "family Western" tells a story that was probably more common on the frontier than every cinematic shootout ever filmed.Former lawman Big Jim Cole (Clint Walker, best known as TV's "Cheyenne") inherits his grandfather's small ranch and brings his family to settle on it.His first 24 hours in town aren't promising: he learns that the ranch was originally won from a powerful neighbor, Jed Curry (Keenan Wynn), who still covets it for his sons, Tad and Cal (Ron Ely, Sammy Jackson); he has to use almost all his savings to pay off a loan against it; 12-year-old son Charlie (Kevin Brodie) gets into a brawl with some local boys; five-year-old daughter Gypsy (Victoria Paige Meyerink) gets "skunked"; longtime deputy and friend Sam Potts (Don Haggerty) gets cheated out of $10 by the young Currys and their buddy Duke Squires (Med Flory); and the ranch turns out to be a near-ruin.But Jim is determined: this is good land, he says; with their purebred bull Duncan, he and his wife Angie (Martha Hyer) will raise "some good cattle and maybe ten or twelve more kids."Then comes full spring and the awakening of the neighborhood nemesis, a huge grizzly bear known as Old Satan ("If that beast ain't Lucifer himself he's sure his first cousin," says banker Cotton Benson (Regis Toomey), an early friend of the Coles).Satan's first visit to the Cole ranch results in a dead bull, the panicked flight of Sam's beloved mule Becky, and the injury of the family dog Solomon.Jim and Sam go hunting and manage to hurt and intimidate the animal, but as fall arrives he returns and wreaks even more havoc, not only against them but at other places in the valley. Now the cattlemen put a bounty on the bear, which draws hunter Cass Dowdy (Leo Gordon), formerly a deputy of Jim's, who bears him an old grudge and yearns to see him "busted, flat broke, and beat."Read more

Mann what can be said for such an inspiring movie.I have owned this movie for a couple years now and can honestly say it is watched no less than 20 times a year. This movie clearly illustrates change...how things will change...how change can be accepted by those who work hard for it... and how the younger generation can make it happen. This movie is acceptable in every kind of way...the actors/acting ability, the plots, and oh the music used during periods of the movie is brilliant, I even own the music DVD and keep it with me wherever I go!I highly recommend them both.Left side, Strong Side!!Watch the movie you'll get it.

Solid entertainment from a new group of Disney animators. The storysource is a Chinese fable about a young girl who disguises herself as a man to help her family and her country. When the Huns attack China, a call to arms goes out to every village, and Mulan's father, being the only man in the family, accepts the call. Mulan (voiced by Ming-Na Wen, sung by Lea Salonga) has just made a disastrous appearance at the Matchmaker and decides to challenge society's expectations (being a bride). She steals her father's conscription notice, cuts her hair, and impersonates a man to join the army. She goes to boot camp, learning to fit in with the other soldiers with some help from her sidekick, Mushu, a wise-cracking dragon (voiced by Eddie Murphy). She trains, and soon faces the Huns eye-to-eye to protect her Emperor.Read more

Demonstrations of classic military tactical procedures and excellent footage of vintage aircraft (like the rare B-36), combine here to give viewers a cold war primer on the Air Force's defense capabilities, circa 1955. Former World War II pilot James Stewart is called out of retirement to assist in the strengthening of the Strategic Air Command, the new bomber forces that are America's first line of defense against the Russian nuclear threat. Wife June Allyson sits at home and frets over her husband's devotion to duty, while Harry Morgan lends a hand on the aircraft. Through Stewart, director Anthony Mann takes us on an ersatz tour of the elite Air Force operations that safeguarded America at the time. 5-0 out of 5 stars When the Air Force takes command -
This is high octane, pure entertainment with a wonderful cast including Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson. It also has the best footage of the Convair B-36 Peacemaker ever put into the movie theater.Frank Lovejoy does a great job, but is not quite as imposing as General Curtis E. LeMay - the person his character is, no doubt, emulating. There's a message to this motion picture in terms of the quality of the people required to put up with the very difficult positions within the fledgling Strategic Air Command. It was hard work to make things happen and this picture is dedicated to the character and dedication of those individuals who protected this country during the Cold War.This film would be a wonderful co-feature to "A Gathering of Eagles" with Rock Hudson and Mary Peach. They're portrayed roughly eight to ten years apart in the history of SAC.Each time I see the extradordinarily long take-off footage of the B-36, I get a little misty-eyed.I remember watching the last B-36 as it made a low-level departure from Loring Air Force Base, Maine. And, like in the movie, the venetian blinds shuddered as did most of the other structures! This would be wonderful in a DVD format.

3-0 out of 5 stars Scotty watches the skies from a B36
I like The Strategic Air Command from a few angles. The plot was simple enough, a $70,000 per year baseball player (James Stewart) with "a few good years of playing left" goes resentfully back into the air force through a general call up of men in his age group. The Strategic Air Command has a desperate need for "experienced hands". His wife (June Allyson) at first is happy to go along with this "as long as we are together".
3-0 out of 5 stars 1955 Period Feature of SAC
Veteran World War II pilot and professional baseball player "Dutch" Holland (Jimmy Stewart) is recalled to active duty with SAC-Strategic Air Command. The cold war is heating up and Dutch uproots his newlywed wife Sally (June Allyson) from their glamorous lifestyle to one of long hours and dangerous training missions. After over 20 months on active duty, SAC and Dutch's loyalty begin to severely strain their marriage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have seen it dozens of times
When I heard that Maureen Stapleton passed, I immediately remembered her as her character in this movie. My brother and I watched this movie over and over and over when we were 4 and 7 years old, respectively. It is touching and appropriate, a wonderful, timeless family classic. We later found out that it was filmed at a house in the town where we lived, so any time we drove past the house, we excitedly pointed out the "Electric Grandmother House" to anybody within earshot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful, fun, yet sad--all wrapped into one movie!
This is an excellent children's movie. I saw it as a child myself when it first came on Nickelodeon (you know, back in the stone age of the 80's?).

It always comes up when people are comparing their most traumatic movie experiences: "the death of Bambi's mother," a recollection that can bring a shudder to even the most jaded filmgoer. That primal separation (which is no less stunning for happening off-screen) is the centerpiece of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest Animated Films of All Time
If film makers could figure out how to make a film like "Bambi" every time, the art of film making would be just that; an art."Bambi" is a tale that is for children. However, that tale contains every element present in the life of a typical child: friendship, love, parental protection, loss, fear of the unknown, and, of course, growing up.I am still astonished at how a film that clocks in at 69 minutes can capture the essence of life.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Ever!
They worked very hard on bambi. Its not like the new movies. The animators work hard to make it good.Efforts the key.And the dvd has great bonus features. And the movie itself is way better on dvd.The sound is 5.3.The best sond.Especially when you hae a sterio. They remastered it great. They didnt just rush and put it on.So you would love this movie.Especially on platinum edition. So I highly reccomend Bambi the best Disney film ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Halloween Tree
I am a fourth grade teacher.I have used this for 10 years in my classroom to teach social studies and geography.Their journey to Egypt (mummies) and Mexico(Day of the Dead) gave me new information that I have never run across in books. The kids love learning about their costume histories.I always have students ask where they can get this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Classic
I've watched this nearly every year at Halloween since 1996. It's great. Do yourself and your children a favor and get this. It delves well into the history of the holiday and is a fun romp for kids of all ages. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Could well be the best DVD on the market
Given that the movie is wonderful, perhaps the last of the great Hollywood musicals and a charmer for all generations, this DVD is still remarkably wonderful. Disney has done a clean-up job on the film that makes it shine. The audio is rich and wonderful, including the all-important ORIGINAL stereo soundtrack (feh to multi-channel remixes!). The special features even manage to elucidate the process of filmmaking in manner intriguing to both the cineaste parent and Mary-mad children.
5-0 out of 5 stars thank you, Julie and Dick (and Walt, of course)!
I think I like this movie more now than when I was a kid! And the extra features on this 2-DVD set are absolutely wonderful. Great interviews with Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, one of the Sherman brothers (songwriter), and the girl who played Jane that really show how special the movie-making process was, which then translated to joy on the screen.
5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful story and lovely music
Mary Poppins must be one of the loveliest filming produced by Disney studios. This musical movie is extremely well produced and has outstanding actor work. The scenes are of high quality despite the whole story was filmed indoors. Even the little part of London was reproduced in Disney studio. The music from Sherman brothers is world famous and well known. When you hear the first tunes, you might say: Hey I've heard that somewhere! Having this DVD on your shelf would please both you and your younger fellows. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Haunting, Very Disturbing, Very Good!!!
These two women deserved so much more credit than they got for this movie back then. Two of the very best performances in movie history.Anne Bancroft and Sissy Spacek have that rare talent that comes through in every role they have played. In the original play Sissy's character was played by the great Kathy Bates who I here did an incredible job at it.The movie version of the play is a great adaptation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant !
WOW! Brilliantly written work and adaption to film.Sissy Spacek and Anne Bancroft could not have nailed this performance more perfect, amazing talent.Marsha Norman seems to have captured the "Sane Suicidal", something I'm not aware has been accomplished to this degree.

5-0 out of 5 stars I say No Mamma!
I know about alot of movies before I even ever see them this was one of those movies that took me forever to see. when I got around to it I was simply blown away. sissy plays a woman who decides to kill herself! no ends and's or but's she simply is going to do it. telling her mother before she does the final act. I guess what touchs me most about this movie is all that happens in one's life before it's over. not the fact that she is going to kill herself. also alot of stuff having to do with self confidence. there were things in the movie about what sissy thought of herself and why she felt so alone in the world. as simple as getting fired from a job because the way she looked at people to one of her mom's friends saying her hands were too cold. to the failed mothering of her child gone wrong to failed marriage to husband cecil to losing her father. these things might all seem depressing but in one's life alot takes place. all these things have touched a cord and sissy decides to get off the bus. what you get is a touching story and a wonderful film about a mothers attempt to save her child that has decided to take her life. 2 wonderful timeless performances from both actress's. ...
