2-0 out of 5 stars Fun idea, mediocre movie.
Bad US dub aside (and they really should start releasing these films uncut and in their original language tracks), Twin Dragons has an interesting premise but rather shoddy execution. Through the use of various camera tricks and body-doubles, Jackie Chan plays a set of twins seperated at birth. One becomes a famous concert pianist, the other a streetwise mechanic. The trouble begins when the musical brother returns to Hong Kong for a concert, and the twins start sharing each others actions through a psychic link.
4-0 out of 5 stars jackie chan "twin dragons
I always enjoy jackie chan. It was fun watching him play two parts and his actions are always amazing.

3-0 out of 5 stars a good funny movie but not an action one.
I am a cantonese person and I rent this US version dvd. Is some ways it disapointted me because it doesn't provide cantonese audio and they substitute English audio instead. Anyway, this movie is so funny is so ways. I especially like the bathroom scene. It can't help laugh loudly. The action parts are quite boring but I think American people would like to watch them.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A+ material
Excellent movie. The plot is great. The bringing of Rob Schneider and JCVD to one movie might have seemed like a bad idea at first, but they really pulled it off, this movie was one of the funnest movies I ever seen JVCD played in, it still is an action just like all his other movies. They do some non-stop action in China. Their are these pants that can rip apart easily cause their called Knockoffs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Van Damme was AXED by Hollywood for this Flop.

4-0 out of 5 stars How did this movie flop?
This was a really cool movie with great stunts, great comedy, and great camera views. This was plain and simply one of the best JCVD movies ever. I find amazing how this film, Leigonaire, and Universal Soldier:The Return all did not revive his career. It is a total mind F*** to figure this out. The plot was a little confusing at first but if you really pay attention you will get the idea of the movie. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The first of a popular series (six in all) starring the charismatic and athletically adept Jet Li.Li plays legendary folk hero Wong Fei Hong, a late 19th century southern Chinese healer and kung fu master. The story begins with Western powers (American, British, and French) encroaching on the city of Canton. Wong is asked by the Black Flag army to safeguard the town by creating his own militia of kung fu experts. His assistants include the butcher "Porky" (Kent Cheng), a Chinese-American named Bucktooth So (Jacky Cheung), and his westernized "Auntie" Yee (Rosamund Kwan), a non-blood-related childhood friend for whom he holds a special affection. But the Westerners aren't the only problem in Canton. The Sha Ho gang terrorizes local businesses and has begun dealing with the Americans in exporting Chinese for slave labor and prostitution. Adown-on-his-luck kung fu master named Iron Vest Yim (Yan Yee Kwan) has decided he needs to defeat Wong to open a school and Leung Fu (Jackie Chan contemporary Yuen Biao), a traveling opera troupe groupie, just keeps getting in the way. This epic martial-arts film showcases Li's amazing fighting and acrobatic skills and established Tsui Hark as a top-notch action film director. The final fight scene between Wong and Yim entails a dizzying orchestration of kicks and punches while teeter-tottering on ladders. The DVD features star bios, filmographies, trailers, and clips from early Wong Fei Hong films that starred veteran actor Kwan Tak Hing. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Martial Arts Film with Transparent Story and Thin Plot
Although it isthe most popular series of six films starring Jet Li about a 19th C. healer and martial arts kung fu expert, it did not impress or thrill this viewer. There may be a serious disconnection with the way Chinese view films and how Americans like them. I need more mystery, a flow of action and suspense with unexpected surprises. I want a twist or two in the plot where hints are given of what may happen but then something else entirely different transpires. I want characters with complex natures who are presented with dilemmas that test their values, where the very core of their being is shaken. None of this is evident which is why I rate it three stars. There were intense superor kung fu moments for this I give 5 stars but that alone does not warrant a 4 star rating ... 2-0 out of 5 stars A silly mess
Alright, I'll confess to a slight infatuation with Jet Li, but even that did not make this movie more than passable. The plot is all over the place. It barely made sense - characters would suddenly arrive, locations would develop and then nothing would come of them. The bad guys were just silly - I like real malice and evil in my badies, I like to hate them and enjoy their come uppance. Well the silly twisted bad boy was just pathetic, and Jet Li, ever serene, was so far above the whole mess, so detached and lovely, just going through a very routine job of being Jet Li. The evil imperialist Yankees plotting to capture unsuspecting Chinese immigrants and enslave them were cartoon cuts outs.
5-0 out of 5 stars Jet Li At His Best
The movie really is a feast for the eyes, out of all of the movies dealing this historical character, I think these movies are the best. Jet Li really does come through and does an excellent job in this stunning film. The action and story is excellent and very entertaining to watch. All of the costars are as equally incredible. The characters are those you really do care for and the locations in the film really are beautiful, it really does feel like you are watching 19th century China. The westerners aren't shown in a extremely negative light, it could have been worse. The battles scenes really do stand out. Great stuff that just got better with the sequel!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 3.5, but great music, great acting, and an ending that will never be forgotten boosts it up to a 4.
Now I can't comment on the original, but king hu definitely did not make movies like this. Now if you like movies like the swordsman series than you will probably dig this.I thought that this movie was a little less than action packed. But that was just because the story was a little less than boring, I really needed more action. That is not to say that the acting was not good, just storywise it was very weak. The action though actually features pretty good swordfights throughout. And in one fight we get the confirmation that brigitte's skin looks very good.I would have liked to see more but it is just as good dreaming of her.I can easily imagine what she looks like, she has...Ok, well the reason most people will buy this is for donnie yen, but I bought it for briggite lin and I ended up getting a little more than I expected. Now the political overtones that ric myers speaks about all throughout the commentary I think is true.I don't know if a lot of the things he is suggesting are true or false, but the movie is at least very different in this way.We have all these swordmasters, but we don't have like this one guy who is the master.Well I guess we do, but he doesn't show up until the very end and the part where I saw political meaning is where the whole of them could do nothing to him but it took teamwork and luck to win.Don't really mean to give anything away but I definitely think there is something to be read into their. And man oh man donnie would have made a great bad guy if he did it more than like twice. So all in all still a pretty good film with stuff at the end that may cause seizures.
4-0 out of 5 stars Stylishly filmed and acted
Overall, I like the movie. The film work was stylish, though a bit gritty the way early 90s HK films can be.The acting is a bit over the top but very likeable.Definite recommend for fans of the genera.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest WuXia films
As a Chinese who has watched a lot of martial arts movies I can tell you this is a true classic! If you like the great HK actions movies like A Better Tomorrow, Die Hard, Once Upon a Time in China you will love it. It's better than Crouching Tiger, and it's much much better than trashes like Hero, Heros of Heaven and Earth, House of Flying Daggers, etc. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Tsui Hark at his worse
I thought thet this movie was the WORST movie ever based on the talent that was involved.I don't think that Yuen Wah could have been any worse.Jet Li was pretty good, but how the hell do you screw that up.Tsui Hark seemingly didn't rush through this movie, but it still turns out horribley.I would like to go on to explain how the movie was so bad, but I'll just sum it up by saying that not a single part in this movie could have been any worse.

1-0 out of 5 stars Jet's worse film of all time
Jet lee was dorky in this film, and the cholos he was teaching were just as bad. This film was made in a desperate attempt to relaunch his career in America. After seeing the light, Jet returned to Hong Kong and completed the historical Once Upon a Time in China series. The rest is history.

2-0 out of 5 stars Horrible
Hard as it is to do, this film manages to make Jet Li look very, very bad. I kept having Karate Kid flashbacks! The story is the same old, same old, American martial arts move cliches, fighting for honor and all...in a place that is obviously NOT Los Angeles. The real disappointment is that the martial artists( in come cases obviously just local students for God sake!) are sub par and the choreography suffers for it. The action sequences are slow and awkward. Pass on this one guys. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars u should check out Vol 4 if u love this one..
vol 3 isnt completely good as the first 2 for me, and here's why.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not as it seems
I know that there have been a lot of reviews deploring the relatively lower standards of fight choreography, plot, etc. of this third installment. Yet of the 4, this was the movie that left the deepest impression on this humble reviewer - I remember being moved to tears after watching this as 12 year-old. I do understand, though, why other reviewers might have panned this one - it's much easier to understand tsui hark's intentions from the perspective of someone brought up in a more... "chinese" environment, so to speak.
3-0 out of 5 stars Poor editing and voice overs don't kill this movie entirely
Wong Fei Hung is an important figure, not only to Chinese history, but also to me as a student of the style, which he helped make famous. The Hung Gar Style is traced back to Hung Tsi Kwan (there are lots of debates over the spelling of his name) who taught Luk Ah Choy, and Wong Tai (Wong Fei Hung's grand father) who taught Wong Kei Ying (Fei Hung's father) who refused to teach Fei Hung, forcing him to turn to Luk Ah Choy for lessons. Fei Hung then went on to teach Lam Sai Wing who wrote the book that more or less made the style famous. Hung Gar is a very common style in Southern China, but is very rare stateside with only a small number of schools teaching it. Wong Fei Hung is therefore a matter of great interest to me, which is why I bought this film without actually seeing it first. Sadly I was disappointed.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Even Better Than The Original
Jet Li once again reprises his role as Master Wong. OUaTIC2 takes the first film and makes it even better. I like the continuation of the characters this movie has. Things have changed since the first film and change even more during it. This introduces the White Lotus society as a mystical force that is demanding that the Westerners leave China, by any means. The action sequences of this film out do and are better than what we see in the original film. This movie also leaves behind the realism and goes more towards a fictional story, it even says that a lot of the film is fictional at the beginning. Overall, really great and if you like the first film, you will LOVE this. It is even better!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple but stylish
I loved the openning scene. It's quite stylish. The story is simple but effective.
4-0 out of 5 stars 2 stars for the story a 4.5 for the action, 5 stars for the stick fight and for jet li going off on EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This movie is really freaking weird.I am always surprised to see that this is most peoples favorite entry into the series, and while i would put it at # 3, it still rocks. The story yiou can really tell is just there so they could call it a movie. But watching jet li go off on like 30 people is really really cool.It is weird that they have clubfoot doing all the flip doubles for jet just like in the first movie, so when they fight eachother towards the end, you can see clubfoot doing the flips for himself and jet!!!!!It is really cool if you notice it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Oh my god what a beautiful movie!
The cinematography blew me away when i watched this movie! such beautiful settings and beautiful composition! it's too bad the computer special FX were pretty bad since it's made in 1993, it's the ONLY downside to this movie and it's why I didn't give it 5 stars. it'd be wonderful if they re-release this movie with new CG technology but that's highly unlikely since HongKong's known to re-make movies by the batch rather than restoring old classics.
4-0 out of 5 stars A better edition?
This movie is beautiful, but if you care about video quality and the readability of subtitles, you might want to look instead for the 2004 "DTS Version" from Mei Ah Entertainment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love separates Greenand White Snake.
The story of Green and White Snake had been one of the most talked about fairy tales in Chinese folklores. Hark Tsui is by far the most prestigeous period fantasy film director in HK for the last two decades, and this may not have been his best work, but it's beautiful and touching all together. With elaborate sets, costumes, dance scenes, soundtrack, and stimulating visuals of battles between good and evil, makes it an entertaining period piece. What's more memorable is that two of HK's top Divas are featured here; Maggie Cheung is the Green Snake, and Joey Wong is White Snake.

4-0 out of 5 stars A new spin on Wong Fei-Hung
Director and OUATIC series creator Tsui Hark bravely puts a new twist on the legend of Wong Fei-Hung in this fifth chapter in the series. As emphasised by other reviewers here, firearms are fairly prevelant in this episode; although they complement rather than overshadow the martial-arts action. Personally, to see WFH dodging bullets while kicking heads made for lively viewing in my opinion.2-0 out of 5 stars Weak film, one great fight scene
What's wrong with this movie? Hmm, where to begin... how about the fact that the main weapon of choice in the film is guns. That's right I said guns. Wong Fei Hung, Clubfoot and crew jump around performing martial arts and then shooting people dead. It makes no sense whatsoever and is totally out of character for Fei Hung who, in one scene, shoots a woman in the eye and kills her. Then there's the fact that the movie drags on and on with TERRIBLE comedy scenes that make you wish someone would shoot you in the eye and end the misery. The only thing saving this film from a one star rating is one AWESOME figth scene where Wong Fei Hung battles an ancient kung fu master in a massive treasure chamber.Very cool but definely not worth the purchase price.

5-0 out of 5 stars 4&5 Totally different
movies number 4&5 bring a whole new element to the table and I love it.I read the [other] review posted here and it said that the series hit rock bottom with this one,[but] this movie is great,Chiu Man-Chuek is an excellent Wong Fei-Hung and with numbers 4&5 creates his own branch in the OUATIC series that are "wire-Fu" master pieces, while the first 2 movies were complete movie masterpieces, these ones are more like fantasy comic books and are totally off the wall, while Chiu isn't as much the star in this one as in #4,his students-Lueng Fun,Club Foot, and Butcher Wing create some amazing wire-fu spectacles in this one(especially Club-Foot) and has a very plentiful amount of well edidted fight scenes which will make you wish you weren't so sceptic of an OUATIC movie without Jet Li....A great addition in the series, check it out,but remember to forget about Jet while watching this one and watch it for the great movie it is. ... Look ma, no script! As expected from a movie by Hong Kong action director Hark Tsui, there are many explosive, fast-paced sequences in this Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle. Some are thrilling, others inconsequential. There is also another mumbling, overdone performance by Mickey Rourke, who looks as if he performed his own plastic surgery. Except for an unintentionally humorous ending, the only surprise is Dennis Rodman as Van Damme's partner in exploitation. Rodman has plenty of charisma, but needs someone to weed out those inferior scripts. He plays an eccentric arms dealer coerced by an avenging Van Damme into tracking down the evil and sadistically weird character played by a well-muscled Rourke. It says little for the production that the best sequence of the movie occurs a quarter of the way into the action. It concerns an escape by Van Damme from an island think tank for forcibly retired covert agents. After that, everyone should have gone home. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Why Down It?
This is my fav. Van Damme movie. I love it, it has comedy, action, and a bit of romance. Its also a very cool flick, the pairing of Rodman and Van Damme is one of a kind.I think a lot of people think to hard about this movie. Its an action movie, not a serious drama, so just have fun with it and watch Van Damme kick some serious ass.I would recommend this to any Jean Claude Van Damme fan as well as a fan of good action movies.

5-0 out of 5 stars This movie is off the hook!
Ok no, not really. This movie really sucks. It's terrible in pretty much everyway - but that's what makes it so good. It's so bad, and everything in it is so ridiculous, that it's a hoot. Over the years I gotten together with old friends and we watch it for some laughs. From Rodman's throwing guys up in the air like a basketball to Van Damme's classic 20 foot slide after he's tripped by Rourke, Double Team is a must see!

2-0 out of 5 stars Rodman? What did he do do throw basketballs?
Naw, Jean-claude could have done this movie by himself. Rodman needs to stick to basketball. ... Read more

A prequel, set in Saigon during the fall, and the weakest link in the trilogy, unacceptably restrained in both action and emotion. Chow Yun-fat plays a younger version of Mark, his original character, a hesitant young man digging for his roots in Vietnam, which was also Tsui's birthplace, and we get to watch him assemble his totemic trappings: the duster overcoat, the French shades, the twin .45s. The surprise is that he gets most of them from a torchy dame played by Anita Mui (the seductive singing ghost from Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A weak sequel, but not such a bad film
As a big fan of the first two films in the series, I had been wanting to see Tsui Hark's A BETTER TOMORROW III for a while.I had mixed expectations for the film.I'd heard that it wasn't too good, that the series was nothing without John Woo.But I was also very intrigued by the storyline and the fact that the film was a prequel.
5-0 out of 5 stars Prequel Best In the Series
I purchased this film hoping for an action film along the lines of the first two entries in the series. What I got was an epic love story set during the waning days of Saigon. And I liked it!The emotions in this film are real and the response to the them are earned. As a fan of the John Woo films I hate to say it but the gunplay in this film interfered with the human interactions. As a Chow Yun Fat fan I was really impressed with the range he displays here.Instead of the brash cowboy he played in the first two films he shows, gasp, vulnerability. And what can you say about Anita Mui: beauty, brains, brawn, and charisma.A perfect capper to a terrific series of films.

4-0 out of 5 stars not the best, but a classic none the less
As a fairly big Chow Yun-Fat fan I'd have to say this is my least favorite. I think it's a lack of John Woo. The story never really caught my attention like the first two. Even thought there was more of a love sceen for Chow Yun-Fat, I don't think it showed enough of his passion as did this first one, or even the second one. if you have the first two, or even one you have to buy this movie, just to keep the collection together. ... Watching the second I was in tears thinking how one can spoil such an excelent comedy. Censored and horribly cut "Mad mission 3" is a pale shadow of "Aces go Places 3". Before you order, ask what they want to sell you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A truly funny and innovative bond/mission impossible spoof
I have been trying to get a copy of this movie for at least 15 years now and the fact that it is now coming out on DVD is why I love this format . The movie is a funny spoof of spy movies with amazing action and truly one of a kind gadgets . The series also has a famous villian in every installment , in this one it is sean connery as james bond (or at least a lookalike) . Also Peter Graves (the real one) appears as his mission impossible character . This movie is for kids and adults alike and especially for fans of spys and gadgets . I won't be buying it but only because I am buying the whole collection .

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterful! Tsui Hark and director Tony Ching Sui Tung is amazing
This 3rd installment of the Chinese Ghost Story franchise is the best of them all. I remember watching this as an adolescent and loving it. Watching the first 2 Chinese Ghost stories can heighten the nostalgia factor when you view this 3rd movie. The score and songs are amazing. The late Wong Jing once again penned the words and Jacky Cheung took on the role of main vocals once again like he did in the 2nd movie (Yun Gan Doe). The title song is a magnificent piece of music that sets up the movie for its stunning visuals and storytelling.
5-0 out of 5 stars Karma-Crossed Lovers Reborn
This is a great movie that I never get tired of watching. Supposedly it is a sequel that take place a hundred years after the events of the first two movies, but in reality it is more like the cinematic equivalent of a remix of the first movie (same basic storyline with elaborations, same actress playing the heroine, similar character types, and so on). And like the first one, it manages the great alchemical mix of genres and moods: romantic and creepy, action-packed and humorous, haunting and light-hearted. But it succeeds in upping these a notch. The romantic relationship between the hero and the ghostly heroine is complicated and given tension by his being a monk (monastic vows and all) and by her being less overtly benign. The special effects are way, way, way better (which is partly due to the passage of time, of course), and these contribute to the choreography of the action...the part where the senior monk detects the presence of evil and abruptly shoots up from his meditation seat into the air and starts gliding about doing reconnaissance is totally cool no matter how many times I see it. And to top it all off, even the subtitles are better.
3-0 out of 5 stars If you've seen CGSII, you don't need to see this movie.
I was prepared to really enjoy Chinese Ghost Story III, understanding that it was essentially a retread of the original two movies. Since the movie takes place 100 years after the second, there's plenty of good reasons for why the Chinese Ghost Story III would be disconnected from its roots.
