1-0 out of 5 stars David Carradine's Star Trek
This has got to be the worst video I have ever seen. The ever changing back ground made me feel like I was watching a Star Trek movie. It looked like they were being beamed around everywhere. At times I felt sea sick.I was really looking forward to this tape. How disappointing it is.

4-0 out of 5 stars Much better form then from his Tai Chi attempt in 1987.
To start with I have taken martial art classes, not many, but a few months at a time several times in my life. I also took Tai Chi, the Yang short form for over a year while in my massage school. I was looking for a refresher, to learn more about the benefits & philosophy of the moves and/or other forms.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow.
I bought this item several years ago but didn't take time to learn the movements and set it aside.I now have arthritis of the spine and neck and have quite a bit of pain.Tai Chi is often mentioned as a helpful method to reduce the pain of arthritis. So I tried again and I must say I'm amazed at how much this is helping me.The calming effect of the music and beautiful music plus the clarity of directions make it a winner for me.I use it about twice a day. It's the best I have seen and does help with the pain as much as anything has. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Review of David Carradine's Tai Chi For Mind & Body
This two-video set combines the best of David's presentation-style, with Arnold Tayam's information on Chen-style Tai Chi! This along with fine production-values featuring music by John Serrie makes this box-set a winner! A great addition to David Carradine's "Chi Kung For Beginners" and David Carradine's "Tai Chi Workout For Beginners"

5-0 out of 5 stars I have to say I wanted to hate this video
I have to say I wanted to hate this video. I mean David Carradine, b-movie actor, chinese wannabe, 1970's kung-fu guy ...who would have thought this video would be anything other than a joke. But....I was forced to eat my words, and feelings. The video, most likley do to Arnold Taiam and his direct connection to Real Chi Gong and Kung Fu, actually make a good , easy to follow, video that is more than benificial to the viewer than 90 percent of the other videos ive seen on the topic.1-0 out of 5 stars Kung Fuy
This guy really irks me; always trying to pass himself off as a Martial Artist just because he starred in the TV series "Kung Fu". He's a joke in the Martial arts community. His forms are atrocious, and his advice should never be listened to. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars absolutely worth it
having never done any tai chi (but other workouts such as kickboxing, step...) i was very anxious to discover this new kind of peaceful workout. This tape is absolutely great.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tai Chi video
This is a great video for anyone new to tai chi. Multiple angles are used to take into account that you are doing the movements from home. The instruction is clear and there's a great warmup segment that describes the correct way to do the exercises. I would recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars T'ai Chi:The Empowering Workout

2-0 out of 5 stars ..disappointed..
Upon inital use of this tape, I felt that it could have gone to a more advanced level.Although it does an adequate job of reviewing basic postures. What is lacking is a thorough workout so that a user will want to use this tape as a guide on a regular basis.Great for beginners but no more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tai chi for health
This is an excellent Tai Chi tape; it shows all the moves in each direction: from front, side and rear.I just wish that there was a following tape for the next set of moves. Please tell the person doing this tape that we all could use a second tape!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for beginners
Simply, this is a very good place for beginners to start. With all of the different tapes, forms and variations of forms available it can be confusing for beginners (like myself). From scratch I learned the form presented in about a month. However, some very important facts were not explained like: What form is taught on the tape? Is the set presented only one segment of the Yang long form? The title is Tai Chi for Health Vol. 1 In order to learn the complete form I'm guessing you need the other Vols. Where can they be found? ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The 37 form, not the common 24 form
If you have learned the Yang 24 posture form and are looking for a review video, be forwarned that this is the Yang 37 posture form.Although many of the postures are the same, there are a few new ones and the sequence is entirely different.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tai Chi Single Fan
The instructional video was well produced with both front and rear view demonstrations of the fan routine. The entire routine was demonstratedboth at the beginning of the tape and at the end.The fan routine wasbroken down into four sections. Each section was performed with a frontview with names of postures and four rear view demonstrations. Two rearview demonstrations would have been sufficient. There was no verbalinstruction of the routine. However, anyone with some Tai Chi backgroundshould be able to follow the format. The demonstrator, Helen Wu, comesfrom a long lineage of martial artist. Her grandfather, Wang Ziping, andmother, Wang Jurong, both have made history in China through theirknowledge of Chinese Martial Arts.Overall, the video was well worthbuying. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars poor quality CD
My CD was of poor quality.I bought this brand new, but after 10 minutes the CD freezes and skips and is unusable.Maybe I just got a lemon.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful, looking for more...
Paul Lam's Tai Chi, the 24 forms will likely suffice for this beginner interested in Tai Chi.His form and technique appear to be expert and precise and he does explain the movements as various colleagues demonstrate them. With time and patience and commitment one should be able to sort it out.
5-0 out of 5 stars Huge value for the money!
Dr. Lam's video was extremely helpful to me.I had been enrolled in a Tai Chi class and the room was crowded and it was very confusing to try to learn in this environment.I asked the instructor if there was a tape of his voice to follow to do after class for practice, but he would not even agree to let me bring in a recorder to make my own tape.Out of frustration I began looking for a DVD to supplement my class instruction. The class was a rather expensive, 18 session class and it was recommended by the instructor that beginning students actually take the class twice before moving on to the intermediate and advanced classes.Being VERY unfamiliar with Tai Chi, I hadn't realized when I signed up how very complicated it actually is.I would have been better off if I had gotten this DVD instead of taking the class. It teaches all of the moves, the correct way to do them, and I'm under no time limit on how quickly I have to learn. It's saved me time in the learning process, too, because I'm learning everything the correct way the first time I try.I found it VERY helpful and worthwhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superior, impressive, andnot just for kids!
This tape is well geared toward "young people" (i.e. teenagers) and is thus too sophisticated for "little people" (i.e. preschoolers). However, this is a superb instructional video for anyhealthy body over the age of 8 or so.My daughter, age 9, and I were bothextremely impressed with the thoroughness of Dr. Lam's teaching. For eachand every form, Dr. Lam explains the form, demonstrates it, then carefullybreaks it down into a simple series of motions. He has an teen assistantperform each step of the form again as he points out subtleties of themovement or mistakes to aviod. The assistant then demonstrates the formfrom the front, the side, and the back. Finally, Dr. Lam performs the formagain himself.Other Tai Chi videos we've seen expect the viewer to justfollow along and hope they're doing it right. With this video, you can'tmiss. Dr. Lam also urges viewers to practice and master one form beforemoving on to the next. Not only does this ensure better mastery of theforms, but it also helps young people learn patience, commitment, andfocus. We cannot praise this video enough! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading title, doesnt deliver what it promises
As a learning tool for beginners this video fails. The first 20 minutes are spent on the same kind of stretching and warm-ups you did in gym class or can read about for free anywhere. He then does 10 minutes of chigung warms ups, which are simply more slow stretching (and better presented in any book).Next theres a 10 minute demonstration moves from the short form, all seen from the front and not structured for the beginner. When he finally gets around to the form there's one runthru (front only, no replay) of about 6 minutes, and that it - 40 minutes of warmup for one demo. The production values are crummy, looks like the whole thing was shot on a home camcorder with poor focus.Having taught martial arts for years I can tell you that few beginners will get the moves from presentations like this. As a learning video for people of any age this video is poor, but putting "for seniors" in the title to hook novices or their caregivers is cheating. Save your money !

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful but...
I bought this video for my 82 year old mother-in-law who is quite active despite severe arthritis, but beginning to slow down rather alarmingly.3-0 out of 5 stars Instruction fine, disappointed in the camera work
I received this video today.I purchased it based on the glowing reviews I'd read here.Let me say I thought the instruction was fine: very clear, slow, easy to follow (4 stars for that).Unfortunately the video itself I would rate no higher than a good amateur production. The quality and clarity of the video and sound were fine. However it looks like it was shot in a carpet warehouse - two oriental carpets on the floor (which he has to straighten out at times because they curl up) and possibly a large one behind as a backdrop! But even that's OK.The most annoying thing is that on a number of occasions when he is describing a new move/exercise they zoom into his face and you can't see what he is doing with his hands/feet.At other times when he is discussing body alignment they stay focused on his legs and you miss the arm movements. 5-0 out of 5 stars Tai Chi for Arthritis 2
12 Movement Forms (on the right & left sides) also incorporated much different Qi Gong practice like Tai Chi for Arthritis (12 forms). Is an ancient China Martial Art (Kung Fu) and it is a gentle, flowing moving meditation, for health. It is also done for health and fitness in China and the USA! Not only is it proven by scientific studies to be effective for reversing illness. It also possesses many other advantages making it an eminently suitable exercise for many. Tai Chi has appeared in traditional Western medical journals. The May 1996 issue of The Journal of the American Geriatrics Society reported on a study conducted at Emory University. The studies show that Tai Chi can reverse over 600 illnesses. Lowers blood pressure while improving balance and self-confidence and more. 5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally Pleased
A year ago,I purchased the first companion video and worked on memorising all of the forms. This year I was ready to tackle the next set.Tai Chi II was actually easier for me to follow.Pleasant music.Kind instructor.Very profitable.I wish there were a video of same Dr. Lam doing the forms in natural settings such as Australia's beautiful parks. There is a definite sense of achievement in being able to move in concert with the video.Calming and has helped my balance and flexibility. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good learning
I overstand there are a lot of different Taiji videos of many different styles on the market.most of us can't find good teacher near us and rely solely on these movies to get us through.
5-0 out of 5 stars What I think about my Tai Chi CD
I previewed this CD by renting it before purchase, so there were no surprises. This CD is perfect for an aging grandmother like me, because it presents a truly beginning level of Tai Chi, and every move was possible for me, even though I am moderately physically handicapped, and need a cane for walking and balance.Dr. Lam gives a very complete demonstration of each and every move, and a very soothing manner of presentation. The CD is now a fixed part of my exercise program.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent for Starting Tai Chi
I wanted to start learning Tai Chi but since my job involves much travel, I didn't have time to take lessons.I wouldn't expect any dvd to fill in as a replacement for a live instructor, but I found this dvd was an exellent way to get started.I am now able to practice all six forms outlined in this dvd.Dr Paul Lam is very easy to follow. The nice thing about dvd is that I can instantly pause or rewind to go back and repeat a move as many times as needed. I am able to replay the full demonstion at the end of the dvd on the easy-to-access menu as many times as I need in order to study a different part of forms.I have found it useful to break the forms down by watching the hand movements then go back and watch the feet and leg movements. I look forward to experiencing the 24 forms video! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars hard to follow
The video starts out alright, if a bit boring with just the hand motions. However, when the foot motions are added the view has to turn thier back to the TV. I found it impossible to follow without looking. If you don't learn movements quickly this is not the video for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic Fundamentals
There is no hype in this video, the content is plain, the instructors wear black and the music is soothing. All of which is great if you just want to learn a few basic moves while getting a great workout, without a lot of production getting in the way.5-0 out of 5 stars This video is confusing.
The video shows three instructors simultaneously, one for each level of difficulty. The workout is non-stop, they never take the time to explain anything. Tai Chi is not presented very well at all in this video; it isconfusing and hard to follow. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Master was excellent...
...Too bad almost everyone else in the video was NOT, and that the producer and cameramen didn't know what they were doing. If you do the warm ups slowly and carefully (in spite of the complaints about this video's lack of warm ups, the whole first section of the video is nothing but) and then follow the master's moves ONLY, as shown later on in the video, you will build your Chi. I gave this 3 stars because this was the first video workout I ever attempted that actually helped me feel the Chi (regular practitioners will know what I'm talking about); the master was that good. DO NOT FOLLOW THE MOVES OF THE OTHER STUDENTS- MOST WERE CLUELESS AND MAY INJURE THE PURITY OF YOUR OWN PRACTICE.

1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE FORM!!!!
To start with I have taken martial art classes, not many, but a few months at a time several times in my life. I also took Tai Chi while in my massage school for three semesters. I was looking for a refresher & to keep going & learn the final moves on the Yang short form. I was also looking to learn any other forms, the philosophy behind it & all the details possible that I might not have gotten in class.
