    Editorial Review

The legendary distance runner Steve Prefontaine blazed across tracks and into America's consciousness before meeting a tragic death in an auto accident at the age of 24.In this tribute to "Pre," narrated by writer Ken Kesey, a number of his contemporaries speak movingly of him as an athlete and a person. After setting high school running records in his native Oregon, Prefontaine went on to the University of Oregon, where as a freshman he began to dominate the American track scene and appeared on the cover of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
This was my favorite of the (I believe?) three Prefontaine movies out there. "Without Limits" and "Prefontaine" are both good Hollywood/drame type movies, and while all three stay true to Pre's story, "Fire on the Track" is much more moving. It tells the story documentary-style with real footage and interviews with those who knew Pre best, tied together with strong narration and driven ultimately by the raw story of Prefontaine. If you're a runner and looking for motivation, or a runner/non-runner looking to learn about one of the greatest American athletes of all time, look no further than to "Fire on the Track."

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
I highly recommend this movie to ANYONE who needs inspiration or motivation. Perhaps you are in sales and need a little extra drive to get over the rejection of a lost sale, etc. This movie will tell you to never quit no matter what your odds.
2-0 out of 5 stars A very long run for a short slide....
Very little actual running here. Mostly a Nike commercial. Lots of silly interviews that don't add anything. Watch one of the movies, instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It really works!
I have had this video for a number of years, but I finally started using it in June.I followed Susan's advice to modify, as I was overweight and out of shape. I could only do 20 minutes of it at first. I did the warm-up, the first aerobic routine, and then I'd fast forward to the cool-down. I gradually added on more minutes as my fitness improved. I also followed Susan's instructions on how to modify the level of intensity to fit my fitness level. That was easy to do because I just had to look at the participants and follow the one who was exercising at my level. This video has real-life women (and a man) with real-life bodies, and they appear to be at various levels of fitness.
4-0 out of 5 stars Must have video, though a bit boring
I think this is an excellent exercise video.I also have Burn Fat & Get Fit, but I like LS&H better. This video offers a better, more challenging and more varied workout than BF&GF.It is a little bit boring, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, but the excellence of the workout makes up for that, in my view. After you've done it a few times, you may enjoy muting your television and playing some good music instead.I like that there are people in the video actually doing the modifications throughout the workout. In the other video I have, Susan demonstrates the modifications frequently, but none of the exercisers actually do the modifications throughout the workout. That's part of what makes this one better. But all this is sort of irrelevant, because at least as of September, 2004, Amazon doesn't actually have this video.I ordered it from them over 6 months ago (from Amazon directly, not from a Marketplace seller).Every few months, they sent me a message saying there was a delay, but they still claimed on their website that it usually ships in 3-5 weeks. They didn't even bother responding when I contacted Customer Service to ask if the video was ever coming. Finally, I cancelled my order, because I got sick of waiting, and of Amazon's refusal to stop misleading people by telling them it usually ships in 3-5 weeks, because it just doesn't.You'll notice that the most recent review before mine was from August 2003, which should give you a rough idea of when this video was last available (over 1 year ago).I borrowed mine from the local library, and I'd suggest you do the same.I'll take it out a few times a year, since Amazon was unable to deliver. I'm sure I'd use it all the time if I could actually own a copy. It's definitely worth having. Just don't expect to buy it here!

5-0 out of 5 stars Consistently Use This Workout Video...
Susan Powter has always been an "in your face" type of woman - but boy, do I miss her!She has always motivated me because she "tells it like it is."

2-0 out of 5 stars almost as exciting as watching golf on tv
ok, i have an admission to make: i have always said this is one of the most boring movies ever made, but i never actually saw it til now. not that i didnt pay my way into the theater because i did. but i fell asleep after 20 minutes or so and never actually SAW the movie. now i have. worse movies have won the oscar: "gandhi", "kramer vs kramer", "the english patient", maybe a few more. but i dont think theres ever been a duller movie. that said, i gave it 2 stars instead of one to honor the all-too-brief shots of dennis christopher who was dreamycreamy back then, but is only on screen about 5 minutes. frankly, i found the two "heroes" to be a pair of self-centered religious zealots, and prigs to boot. and god, i loathe that vangelis music that played constantly for the decade after the movies release. my gawd, this thing beat "reds" for a best picture oscar?!?!? maybe i shall go back and take away the second star ...

    5-0 out of 5 stars Wide-Screen Finally!
Before this wide-screen edition of CHARIOTS OF FIRE was released, I was extremely reluctant to recommend buying this DVD. Now that it is out, and that the sound has been made crisper, there is nothing that should prevent anyone from buying this product.
5-0 out of 5 stars Chariots of Fire
What an amazing film! This is the story of a real olympics and the participants who represented Great Britain in track. The main characters are really well developed and include Abraham who is attending Cambridge University and besides being a stellar student of law has been graced with the ability to sprint. He is Hebrew in a Christian world son to a financier. He enrolls a coach named Mr. Masanbini who admits he can't put in what god left out but none the less agrees to train the young Ben.

    Editorial Review

The first gymnast to ever score a perfect 10 at the Olympics was Nadia Comaneci. From a small town in Romania, Nadia (Leslie Weiner, in her only feature film role) rose to international stardom. Under the coaching guidance of Bela Karoli, she pushed herself with the will of a champion. This movie does a wonderful job of showing how hard gymnasts must work as well as showing how much they must give up in their personal lives in order to achieve success. After winning three gold medals at the 1976 Olympics, her life spins out of control when Bela is removed as her coach. For the first time in her life she is on her own, she is the object of jealousy from her teammates, and her weight is out of control. She seeks out her former coach and asks for his help. Together they put Nadia back on the winning track. A family film with a lot to offer, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We loved Nadia!
My daughters have grown up watching this video, sometimes every day!Grandma said that if she never had to watch it again it would be fine with her...guess we overdid it.When I hear the music of the competitions I stop what I'm doing to watch that part again.Truly a classic and family favorite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Energy
I love Susan Powter. She has great energy, she really knows what it's like to be uncomfortable and unhappy. She is passionate about what she does, I haven't seen any new material in the past few years.I have one video that shows her with a bunch of people of all shapes and sizes exercizing. She is inspiring to me.She also makes me laugh with her analogies on the fitness world. She is truly geniune.I highly recommend her material.I'm glad the rest of the fitness world finally caught on to what she's been talking about.Thank goodness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Adding my own positive comments
I just wanted to add my positive comments on this video.I am pretty out of shape, and I find it doable.I know I can grow with this video, because even after the few times I have used it, I have modified the moves to make them more challenging, or less challenging, if I am tired or sore.I NEVER get sore after doing this video.Susan points out proper form throughout.I have definitely felt the different in my muscles while walking up the stairs.I am more agile now than I was before I bought this video.I have about 10 videos, and this is my favourite.Do yourself a favour and get yourself a step.It just wasn't worth my time to do it without the step.

5-0 out of 5 stars Susan Powter: Burn Fat & Get Fit Saves My Dad's Life
I just want to tell everyone out there and Thank Susan Powter for making this video. My Dad is completely addicted to this video.Every morning from 8 - 9 he has been doing this exercise program for years. My Dad was diagnosed with prostrate cancer and then esophacus cancer. He had a radiation bead for his prostrate to keep that under control as it was caught early. Then they were checking him at his regular check up and had found a small growth of cancer on his esophagus. He exercised to this video until the date of his surgery. They told him normally they would not be able to do this operation on a 70 year old man... However because of his great strength from his exercising they felt his heart could handle this surgery. If he did not have this surgery the cancer would have spread, as this is a very delicate area to have a growth. We told the doctors we owed it to Susan Powter for his strength. His surgery was done he ran into complications as he was leaking protein as the tissues were like sewing wet kleenex together... so they opened him up yet 3 more times.Again they would not have been able to do this if he had not exercised his heart... with this video daily. He is now free and cancer free!!I drop in sometimes to see him in the mornings and we all know from 8 - 9 am he is working his Susan Powter Video. We know he will not answer the phone or anything else during this time. This morning he called me very sad as his machine ate the tape...We now need to get him a new one and mabe even a DVD copy if possible so this does not happen again...So that is why I am on the WEB site right now to find out how to get him a copy and a back up copy. He is lost this morning with out it.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Clock (1945)
This is one of the most beautiful and heart wrenching movies ever made. You are lulled into the movie from the beginning. I saw this on Turner Classic Movies the other night and was amazed at how beautiful it is. There is no swearing in this movie, no sex, no violence, just old fashioned romance and the display of the powerful need for love in human beings. Judy Garland is a great actor and it is directed well by Vincente Minnelli. Movies today are sick, perverted and immoral and they feed the moral decay of this once great nation. The Clock is a must see movie from better more hopeful days.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Wartime Romance with a Luminous Garland in a "Musical"-Feeling Non-Musical
A sincere piece of treacle just before the end of WWII, this 1945 romantic drama features a never-lovelier Judy Garland in her only non-singing role during her golden MGM years. Even though she is a talented enough actress without having to vocalize, she is in a movie that feels like a musical in its cinematic sensibilities - swooning romanticism, quicksilver plot turns and broad stock characters. That shouldn't come as a surprise since her then-fiancé Vincente Minnelli directed and Arthur Freed produced, both much better known for their musicals of the period. Still, they have made a sweet film with worthwhile stylistic touches such as the use of long zoom shots in maneuvering through the swarming crowds in the subway and train stations and the screen panning used in showing the mini-dramas of background characters we never see again.
5-0 out of 5 stars Let's make a stop in the War!
During a very brief withdrawal a soldier will meet, woo and wed a girl before shipping out. A romantic drama typical of that age but with a striking message beneath the script. Follow your bliss before it may be late. Judy Garland is wonderful in this movie.

HAD SO MANY GOOD PAIRS HERE BUT NONE OFF THEM WERE GOOD ITS A SHAME THIS SOULD HAVE BEN THE BEST SS IF YOU LOOK AT ALL MATCHS DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ARE YOUR TIME.

1-0 out of 5 stars deadly it was
a lot of the matches were boring & predictable and the fact that they used the same finish from the previous survivor series was just plain dumb and a slap in the face to a great legend like Bret Hart..but besides that the only good thing during the night was watching shane turn on austin i loved that.

3-0 out of 5 stars It was okay
This was the first time since WrestleMania 4 back in 1988 that a ppv had a touranment to determine who should capture the vacant wwf title. It was set up just like WM 4 where 14 individuals competed and two automatically were in the second round (those being kane and undertaker). The majority of the matches in this tourament were average or poor. The only matches that really shined in the tourament was Ken Shamrock vs Rock, Rock vs Mankind, and Austin vs Foley.Of course, there was a very shocking development and that was the McMahons master plan and not only screwing Austin both also Mic Foley. If you've seen this show you know what I'm talking about. The undercard which only featured two matches, the women's title match and tag team triple threat title matches were average.Overall, not bad but there are better 1998 ppvs such as King Of the Ring and Summerslam. ... Editorial Review

Walter Payton, whose tragic death from liver disease stunned and saddened the sports world, ran to glory in 13 thrill-packed seasons with the Chicago Bears before retiring in 1987, and this video serves as a tribute to his exploits on the field as well as his contributions in charitable endeavors. At first thought to be too short, too slow, and too small to have a professional career as a running back, Payton worked hard to make himself one of the game's all-time great runners. Interviews with colleagues, including Payton's coach with the Bears, Mike Ditka, as well as interviews with Payton himself, are interspersed with game films in this very professional presentation that tells the Payton story in vivid detail. As a production of NFL Films, the video features the trademarked gorgeously shot footage (complete with stirring background music) that shows Payton's intensely physical style of play to great advantage. One former opponent explains that Payton never took the easy way out, and at times would purposely initiate hard contact with a defender. And perhaps Mike Ditka sums it all up when he comments that though Payton wasn't physically large, "he had heart." Walter Payton was a respected and beloved athlete, and Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tribute to a great person!
I have literally watched this video 35 times and I can never seem to get enough. Every time I watch it I come away with more insight about Walter himself. Growing up in Chicago I came to know and appreciate Walter on a local level, but since his death I have come to appreciate him more and more. This is a must see video if you need inspiration or an uplift.

Untill now i've only seen him in the music videoclip "Superbowl Shuffle" and his first and only Superbowl appearance. Man, i've been rewinding the video a lot times to view it once again. 4-0 out of 5 stars SKATING FANS,DON'T MISS THIS
I watched T&D get sixes across the board for Bolero, back in 1983 in England. It made me cry. Although there are too many "talking heads" and not enough skating on the video, what there is, is wonderful. I purchased a tape which the seller said had only been viewed twice,(why?), and the quality was excellent for a recording more than twenty years old. Now I have to get "Face the Music". I am so glad these tapes are still available.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Gold Standard
In the climax of their phenomenal careers, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won the 1984 Olympic gold medal in Ice Dancing and set the standard against which every dance team since will forever be measured.Relive their stellar performances with this video and find the magic again! A must-have for skating and sports libraries

3-0 out of 5 stars Video quality is poor but it's worth the nostalgic trip....
I bought this video after reading the warnings by other viewers of the poor video quality.I was still somewhat taken aback, however, when I popped the tape in the vcr.It will be a shock to anyone used to a digital signal from a satellite, DVD or frankly even a good quality vcr.HBO Video and the BBC made no attempt to remaster the video or audio for that matter. Both are very poor.If I rated it on this alone, I would've given it 1 star.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you love a love story ...
If you are a G&G fan and you haven't seen this, it is a must see.If you have never heard of Gordeeva & Grinkov - watch it and you will fall in love with them.Based on Katia Gordeeva's book about her life with her late husband (also a must-read) it features extensive footage of the couple and interviews with Katia and only a few hyper-cheesy "flash back" re-enactments.It is more a docu-drama than a movie. Now, almost 10 years after Sergei's death, with Katia remarried and expanding her family, it is still a beautiful movie to watch and enjoy. And if you have never experienced G&G you are missing the greatest pair ever to take the ice. This movie is a good way to "get to know" them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Such a lovely documentary
Ten years. Ten years since skating lost one of its most beloved skaters, Sergei Grinkov.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Touching Film
On 20 November 1995, figure skating lost one of its greatest athletes - ever - when Russian pairs skater Sergei Grinkov collapsed and died during a practice in Lake Placid, New York. Now, through re-enactments and footage of his career, Grinkov's memory is brought to life through this touching documentary, "My Sergei".Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Requires some space to work.
I enjoy this video, especially the toning segments. They really give me a workout without my thinking, "when will this be over?". The aerobic circuits aren't too difficult, but a couple of them require deep squats, which are really hard on my knees. I just don't do them, but then I feel like I haven't worked hard enough! But I get up a good sweat with this video regardless. Karen does use some travelling steps which will require a fair-sized area in which to work. This video feels more "friendly" than some others, with Elle speaking some lines and the views of the lovely outdoor setting. I just wish it were on DVD so could skip to my favorite parts, or use the toning segments here and cardio circuits elsewhere. Karen cues appropriately and is no hyper, whooping fluff chick and I appreciate that! I'm sticking with Karen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of many
I've used many different workout videos in the past, I had this one and used it often back in 1998. My personal opinion of this video was that it was the most enjoyable and challenging set of workouts out of my entire collection. Be warned that some of the more intense excercises require a lot of room to move so do this some where that is spacious.

5-0 out of 5 stars This tape is awesome!
Like alot of other people, I've had this tape for a number of years.I just started using it again a little while back and realized how great it is even a decade later. The moves are pretty basic and gradully pick up intensity as the tape progresses. The scenery is beautiful and the music selection fits the exercises well. The hour really does fly by.I read somewhere that you should give yourself7 days to get into any new habit.I will admit the first week back into this tape I thought it was going to kill me!Once I got over that hump, it is just now part of my routine 3 times a week (although Karen Voight's website states you can use it five times a week)Like many others, I wish this would be released on DVD and have expressed that thought via Karen's website.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE DUOS BEST FILM YET!
Made in 1953, The Caddy was the best Martin & Lewis film to date, showing off both men's talents to the best of their ability.Again there isn't whole lot of plot to their films, merely plot elements that frame the two star's unique talents. This time Jerry is caddy Harvey Miller to Dean's Joe Anthony, who is a pro golfer.Well, Harvey of course causes utter havok on the golf course, annoying everyone, including pro golfers Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, and Byron Nelson, playing themselves.Utter craziness 30 years before the next great golf movie, "Caddyshack" would come along.
    4-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Martin/Lewis
This is definitely one of their top movies together. This and The Stooge are right there together. Here is classic Lewis/Martin humor.Good, clean fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Golf the Comic Italian Way
This is more of classic Martin & Lewis! They play off each other so well. Here the goofy caddie (read Lewis) becomes the star golfer.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Much More than a Physical Workout
My wife (60 plus) discovered Leslie through a church sponsored exercise class. Not only is it a simple yet effective workout which may be easily adjusted to various levels of fitness, but it also reminds us of our need to focus on our Spiritual health.Leslie incorporates spiritual reminders, primarily postive and uplifting.
5-0 out of 5 stars MY SECOND FAVORITE EXCERCISE TAPE OF LESLIE'S
I'M 51 YEARS OLD AND CAN NOT YET GET UP TO SPEED OF KATHY SMITH. (ALTHOUGH I HOPE ONE DAY I'LL BE ABLE TO DO ALL THE EXERCISE TAPES.) I BOUGHT THIS TAPE FIRST EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT A CHRISTIAN AND LOVED IT! MY ALL TIME FAVORITE IS EASY STRETCH WITH GREG SMITHEY TO GET BACK INTO SHAPE!!! THEN? LESLIE SANSONE'S WALK & FIRM FOR OLDER ADULTS. THEN? THIS ONE!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice laid back way to sweat!
I actually bought this tape for a friend who is returning to exercise after a several year lapse- but she has knee problems, so I wanted to check out the intensity and impact of this video. This is low impact, low intensity. I did this one last night- all three miles (the viewer who mentions weights is mistaken- they are referring to a different video, there are no weights in this one). I had fun, worked up a sweat, and couldn't believe I did a three mile walk! I normally do yoga (Patricia Walden), pilates (Jennifer Kries!) and I do some form of cardio everyday (Denise Austin is a fav!). I consider myself to be in great shape. But, some days you just don't want to MOVE. Some days you don't FEEL like exercising. On those days, pop this in! You will hear some lovely Christian music, listen to a motivational speaker (she goes light on the religion), and know that you MOVED and got your heart rate up.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Rabbit Almost Stole the Movie!
I don't want to repeat what all the other reviewers have said.I know that when I went to see this movie when it first came out ( yes, I am "that" old ) I didn't have too much hope of it being a good movie.I mean it was Jerry Lewis without Dean Martin! How good could it be?Well turns out it was an excellent movie with an excellent performance by Jerry Lewis.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Movie Has Magic!
Although Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis made a great team, this movie, The Geisha Boy, shows Jerry's true talent solo.4-0 out of 5 stars A Hidden Gem of Jerry Lewis; A Japanese Fan Can Testify
Owing to Eddie Murphy remake, "The Nutty Professor" comes to our mind first as Jerry Lewis's most representative work, but it also tends to overshadow his other neglected gems, one of which is here, "The Geisha Boy."Despite its now corny title, the film has still a lot to offer for our laugh.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars priceless
I have owned this video for a while now, and I feel it is absolutely priceless. I have watched it many times and still do. As you progress as a golfer you will pick up more things from the video that you did not feel before. Just the slow motion of Jack Nicklaus not far from his prime make the video worth it. The slow motion segments are priceless. You can learn more from just watching him over and over and absorbing it, than you could from a thousand books. Jack, would you remaster it and put it on DVD? Please? I would be the first to buy it and add it to my collection and continue to watch it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Golf My Way
Although written in 1974, book very helpful with the basics of golf while excluding most of the confusing techical aspects put forth today. Main reason I bought it was that several modern successful professional golfers have said that this book had helped them learn or improve their game. Good buy for the info and the price.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
I recently restarted playing golf after a six year hiatus.I bought this book years ago and after skimming through some more recent books I can say that Jack's book is still the best for beginners learning fundementals.I would also recommend Tiger Wood's book which complements Jack's.Whereas Jack is heavy on explanations and swing theory, Tiger's is heavy on photographs (for those who really need pictures). ...
