Editorial Review

Something's wrong in the town of Santa Mira, California. At first, Dr.Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) is unconcerned when the townsfolk accuse their loved ones of acting like emotionless imposters. But soon the evidence is overwhelming--Santa Mira has been invaded by alien "pods" that are capable of replicating humans and taking possession of their identities. It's up to McCarthy to spread the word of warning, battling the alien invasion at the risk of his own life. Considered one of the best science fiction films of the 1950s and '60s, this classic paranoid thriller was widely interpreted as a criticism of the McCarthy era (that's Senator Joseph, not actor Kevin), which was characterized by anticommunist witch-hunts and fear of the dreaded blacklist. Some hailed it as an attack on the oppressive power of government as Big Brother. However viewers interpret it, this original 1956 version of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Paranoia From A Pod
For those people out there who have not seen this film (or read the excellent book it was based on) a classic sci-fi treat lies in wait to take over your lives and endow you all with a driving need to conform and obey.Or maybe just replace you with a carbon copy replica.
5-0 out of 5 stars Body Snatchers!
First let me say Contrary to popular belief this movie WAS NOT shot in a widescreen format, it was CROPPED into a widescreen format by the studio before release, having said that this movie remains a fine piece of 1950s si-fi highly enjoyable great pic on the DVD as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invasion From Within
Released in '56, 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' is an intelligent and insightful sci-fi/horror film dealing with the topic of an alien invasion from another planet perpetrated in a most unexpected and highly original way.

To any and all ages, this may very well be my all time favorite movie. So beautiful, so touching, what a great myth to put to film. I always have believed in mermaids, and the Irish music is so haunting. I recommend this film to all humans who love the sea and love music.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's Only "Logical"
If you've seen Star Trek II then you know, as Spock would say, "Logical" for a sequel to follow. This one ties up the loose ends and answers any questions or speculations one had at the end of The Wrath of Khan. Leonard Nimoy behind the camera this time, we follow a skeleton crew on the Enterpise in search of the friend who sacrificed his life to save theirs. Information concerning the Genesis project has fallen into the wrong hands; Klingons. Christopher Lloyd is excellent in the role of the Klingon commander. A battle ensues, and as usual, Kirk resorts to unconventional matters to save the day.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Search Is On...
When the superb sequel "Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan" ended with Spock dying and his casket being sent down to the newly made 'Genesis Planet' many fans wondered is this the end for the beloved Vulcan or was the final moment showing the casket on the planet merely a teaser of things to come.Well, as it turns out it was merely a teaser for things to come, but that wasn't known for a little while after the movie was released which proved to be a brilliant marketing strategy by Paramount, keeping the resurrection of Spock under wraps until the third film was essentially finished and the trailer was released. So once the trailer was released fans could hardly wait to see the next installment in this blossoming franchise, in hopes that their perished hero would rise from the dead to rejoin Captain Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise crew. And believe me the wait was definitely worth it, as this latest movie did an excellent job of building on top of what was started in the second film.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Curious and Amazing Film!
First off, prospective film buyer, do not be put off by this DVD's genuinely horrible artwork, for it disguises a remarkable tale. The script for 7 FACES OF DR. LAO was by Charles Beaumont, a talented man who (among other achievements) wrote over a dozen classic TWILIGHT ZONE stories. And there are shades of a ZONE episode to be found in this unlikely tale. Perhaps most notable are its clever and eminently quotable lines of dialogue, which can be attributed to Beaumont and Charles Finney, whose novel was the basis for the storyline.

Editorial Review

At the time of its original release in 1984, this modestly budgeted sci-fi excursion had the distinction of offering some of the first examples of purely computer-generated animation, an apt (and frugal) special-effects solution for a movie with a plot line rooted in computer games. Both the computer-generated visuals and the arcade game now look quaint, but writer-director Nick Castle's affable, good- hearted adventure holds up nicely, thanks to a clever premise--the title game is actually a test for prospective starship pilots, planted by embattled aliens under siege from an evil invader. When a restless teenager (Lance Guest) racks up an impressive score, he finds himself spirited away to the besieged planet and thrust into the midst of an intergalactic war. Apart from Castle's skill at contrasting his extraterrestrial settings with the mundane details of his hero's earthbound life, the movie gets lift-off from two thorough pros, Robert Preston, who makes the alien recruiter, Centauri, a planet-hopping cousin to Read more

The Last Starfighter marks a milestone in film special effects being the first film to utilize a computer to achieve the great majority of the visual FX shots. They may be quaint now and even dated, but the rousing story, loveable characters and dynamically choreographed action scenes still stand up nicely.

This movie was one of my all-time favorites when I was young. And I still love it, even to this day. In my opinion, the only people who don't like this movie have never watched it, or they haven't looked at it or listened to it well enough.
5-0 out of 5 stars two thumbs up!
I LOVE this movie, and I always have.I remember when I was little and I loved all the singing and magic, and my FAVORITE part was the Princesses on Parade scene- I loved watching the women dance around in their pretty, sparkly dresses.I also remember how much I enjoyed singing along with the No Fear song.

5-0 out of 5 stars ROBIN HOOD ALL' ITALIANA
To make a good adventure film it is not so easy, but, sometimes the magic is done. This is one of those examples. 4-0 out of 5 stars the lighter side of Lancaster
Though the plot is silly and derivative of "Robin Hood", this film makes a great vehicle for Burt Lancaster, as Dardo "The Arrow", a man who is adored by children, loved by women, and lives in a forest with his band of freedom fighters. It isn't the type of film one usually associates with Lancaster, as he won his awards and fame with serious drama; in his mid-thirties at the time, with chiseled bone structure, an incandescent smile, and an enormous amount of hair, he did his own stunts, some which are astonishing acrobatic feats.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "15 Frightful Horror Films ... Bela Lugosi ... Passport Video"

1-0 out of 5 stars Can your heart stand the shocking facts about grave robbers from outer space?
This is the soundtrack to "The Worst Film of All Time".The CD features the audio track to the entire movie on one disc.Music, dialogue, sound effects, etc.Yes, the sound to the whole darn movie. And it's all on one 70 minute track, which is very annoying. You can't skip ahead to various scenes if you want to.Aside from that, why would you want to just listen to the movie on your CD player, when you could watch it on your TV?It loses a great deal of it's effect without the visual aspect.

3-0 out of 5 stars This was in the theaters?
I picked up "Plan 9" purely for its reputed schlock value. Any movie described on its own cover as one of the 50 worst films of all time has to be worth a look!

3-0 out of 5 stars GET THE JAPANESE SUBTITLED VERSION INSTEAD!!
While the American version of this movie is somewhat entertaining, I realized how much it was butchered and altered when I acquired the Japanese subtitled version, which is wide screen, and hi-fi stereo. Ishiro Honda's original Japanese music score, especially the important "Godzilla" theme music was replaced in the American version with stock music from Universal, mostly from "The Creature From The Black Lagoon". There's no annoying U.N reports, which leads to another inaccuracy. When the helicopter pilot sees Godzilla breaking out of the iceberg, he shouts, "GODZILLA"! The scene then switches to U.N. reporter Eric Carter stating.."The world is stunned to discover that prehistoric creatures exist in the 20th century"...If that's the case, how did the helicopter pilot even know who Godzilla was? How did anyone know who Godzilla was? In the Japanese version, which, by the way, in the iceberg scene, the pilot gasps..Ahhhh...it's GOJIRA!" The "Godzilla" theme music stars, and the scene switches quickly to the scene where Godzilla is crossing the Bearing Sea, and attacks the military base. Godzilla's previous entrapment in the iceberg is also referenced to by one of the scientists, something to the effect of "We knew he would not remain frozen in the iceberg forever, even if it took 200 years, we knew he would return to us eventually". OK, it's not an epic flick like the original "King Kong", but it's a fun movie, and the Japanese version moves along a lot better than the American version, and makes more sense, if a movie like this can make any kind of sense! It runs about 10 minutes longer, and there's a little more detail to certain cast members concerning the "plot". It just makes more sense than the American version, as much sense as a low budget cult classic can make, I guess. Oh..yeah, and the ending is the SAME as the American version, except that you hear Godzilla's roar right before Kong's roar.

4-0 out of 5 stars Campy, silly, cheap, badly dubbed...AND I LOVE IT!
Where do I begin?

5-0 out of 5 stars The Titanium Ranger is who?!?!?!?!?
This is a pretty good movie, adding to the chalked up points of the Lightspeed series. The beginning of the movie shows Carter trying out the new Titanium Ranger morpher, but the circuitry is too extreme and powerful for a normal human*. Soon after, Dana and Captain Mitchell celebrate the 20th birthday of their brother and son respectively. That night, the Titanium morpher is stolen by a secret agent of Diabolico's, who seems to feel something for the two Mitchells. The next day, the Rangers are introduced to the evil Titanium Ranger, who kicks their multicoloured butts. Although soon, they beat the evil Ranger with the help of new weapons called V-Lancers. Before they can destroy the Titanium Ranger, Captain Mitchell calls them off, recognising the eyes that are inadvertently shown during the fight. When the Rangers get back to the Aquabase, they demand to know why he called them off. The next part will shock you, so buy the movie!5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous
This recent PR reincarnation is superb, in any way I can name it. It practically contains NO (I repeat NO) cheesy plot lines and plot holes, because of the original plotline--Ryan, the new Titanium Ranger (takes off his shirt many times--female viewers will appreciate the eye candy he provides) is cursed with a cobra tattoo which crawls closer to his neck every time he morphs. Once it gets close enough, it will destroy him.5-0 out of 5 stars From a mom's point of view
Of all the power rangers episodes I've seen, the writing of this video is one of the best. The mysterious appearance of an evil ranger turns out to be the long lost brother of the Pink Ranger, and their father runs the Power Ranger operation! Please ignore the fact that although the monsters recently escaped their prison, somehow they got a hold of Ryan (the Titanium Ranger) some 15 years ago. Think to deeply and you'll ruin the fun. These shows remind me of the hokiness of Ultraman(if you're under 30 - don't ask)with the morality of the Brady Bunch. These guys just kick more butt. Definately a keeper. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This movie is well worth watching.
The vicious cycle of events had started in Motaba River Valley in Zaire. In July 1967, a deadly virus, which caused deaths of tens of people in the Mercenary Camp, was discovered by the army. The doctor of the camp wanted supplies to treat the patients. However, the army officials preferred bombing the camp in an attempt to erase the evidence of the virus's existence along with the potential carriers of the virus. Although, they developed the antiserum, "the E-1101," from a blood sample taken before the bombing, they kept it as a secret to be able to use the virus as a biological weapon.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great film
when this movie openned, back in 95; i remember there had been an ebola outbreak in africa, so there was this sense of paranoia about the possibility of it spreading to the U.S., so when i watched this film i was like 12 and it scared me to death, it made me wonder how, then; president Clinton, would've handled it. needless to say i feel much more concerned, today as to how our current president would handle a similar situation. but politics aside, this is a 4-star film with lots of action, suspense, and good acting.

First Laserdiscs disappeared. Then VHS tapes disappeared. Now DVDs are disappearing. I like this film. It is one of the great science fiction films of all time. I would like to get it with its own cover and artwork. Now you have to get it as a double feature with THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS! Nothing wrong with THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, but I just want THEM! by itself. What gives!
5-0 out of 5 stars Them
I highly recommend this move. Great Old black & white SciFi movie of the 50's Makes you feel like your at the drive inn again. This was no B rated film @ the time. The original quality is great and the tranfer to DVD is not lost. This movie was ahead of it's time being filmed in 3D but sorry folks you don't get the 3D effect from the disk. So if you like giant monsters attacking, then this is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best
It's great to finally see this fifties classic on DVD. I'm not sure what some reviewers were talking about...this is, in my opinion, a very CRISP transfer, the best version of the film I've ever seen. Perhaps their sets need adjusting.

This movie kinds of reminds me of "The War of the Worlds" series as far as Evil aliens come to wipe out the human race. The way they're defeated sounds the same too with one obvious difference. I don't want to give a way anything but compare the two and you'll see what I'm talking about.

5-0 out of 5 stars How can anyone ahte this film?
This is the ultimate "Us VS Them" epic. How can you hate it? It has great special effects, great music, plenty of humor, and characters who are more sympathetic than most. It's meant to be FUN people. And it's a hell of a lot more fun than those crappy Star Wars prequels.

More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince's mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic.
