5-0 out of 5 stars Disney does its magic!
Another Disney classic just like Pocahondas, Shrek, Snow white, Alandin and Lion King. These are cartoon figures and films that are never forgoten.

2-0 out of 5 stars The legend reworked...
To be fair, the legends of Herakles, as they were originally written, have little to do with this movie, but maybe that's for the best.Having grown up on Superman, Batman and the Justice League, I have a hard time calling a person like Herakles a hero.In the original legends, he was a warrior, but also a brute who eventually wound up killing his wife and children in a fit of rage.He also wasn't, as far as I can tell, as strong as in this version.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Fun - the Kids and I Liked It
This is a great show and very entertaining. The story isn't the Greek classic, but it's a fine riff on it.The songs are good, and they grow on you as you watch.I take issue with the reviewer who thought there was gratuitous sexuality in the Meg character - it's just a cartoon, for pete's sake.

I only saw like two shows, but theese are nothing compared to the awsome books! I wish they copied the books axactly and got better acters, then i'd be worth it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Animorphs The Invasion Series pt. 1, The Incasion Begins!
I am a really big Animorphs fan, and to tell you the truth, this show sucked compared to the book series.A lot of the books' story's were meshed into one, making an akward episode. Also they left us at a cliffhanger point!
4-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the books, but it's still good.
This three episode vhs contains some of the best episodes of the t.v show. "The first three." The show is no where near as good as the books. I only wished that they had made a CGI animorphs show or something. The lack of fighting is the only thing lacking in this. Other than that the caracters are portrayed farly well and the differences from the book are tollerated. I own every one of the books and have read them all. I've seen all of the episodes in the series as well. And I own all four of the VHS tapes. I've also taped nearly every episode in ther series, but I am missing 3. I wish they would realese the full season one and season two onto DVD. I would buy it the day it came out. With all of the other DVD sets coming out I'm hoping that this one will be released soon.

Shot on location in numerous countries, this ambitious Wim Wendersfantasy takes Sam Neill, Solveig Dommartin, William Hurt, and a ragtag group in pursuit around the world and back again. Though set in 1999 under the shadow of impending disaster as a wobbly nuclear satellite threatens to Chernobyl the planet, the leisurely gait of their worldwide escapades has a distinctly '40s-era decadence. The ultimate object of their quest is a machine that records visual information from one person and reconstructs it in the brains of others--granting the miraculous power of sight to the blind for one thing, but even more mystically, enabling a person's dreams to be recorded. When the film seeks resolutions on the most intimate questions of the human soul which dovetail with the possibility of a destroyed world, the film is hampered by the VHS running time, which subtracts several hours from the laser disc version. But numerous joys, not least among them Jeanne Moreau and Max von Sydow as Hurt's parents, inhabit this thought-provoking film. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars an underappreciated classic
It is simply baffling that this film is not available on DVD.It is a classic and beautiful film...raising the bar for what other artist directors can aspire towards.Invest the effort to track this film down and be rewarding with a new, wider horizon in your life.

Look who became a star. Barbie comes to life in this computer-animatedChristmas tale that quite naturally takes the longtime favorite doll into a newrealm. The plot is a slight variation on the traditional ballet based onTchaikovsky's music. Instead of being in an open-ended dream, Barbie and herescort, the Nutcracker (soon to be Ken, natch), are on an adventurous quest.Along the way there are more creatures and derring-do than in the original. Thesole known voice talent, Tim Curry, has a good old time as the Mouse King, andthe animated dancing is gracefully adapted from New York City Balletchoreography. A few clever characters, bright animation, and wonderful musicshould entrance any Barbie fans ages 3 to 9. The 78-minute feature debuted onvideo shortly before playing on CBS in 2001. Read more

I just wanted to add that for a kid's version of the Nutcracker this is not to bad. This is the first version of the musical my 5 year old has seen and she loved the Nutcracker so well she wanted to see the live action version. What a good way to get your children interested in the arts.

In a time when race and religion don't separate people, but extra powers and mutated characteristics do, two longtime friends, Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) part ways, only to become rivals over the issue of how much patience they should have with "normal" people. Living lives that scare most humans lacking the "X-factor" (a special power such as telekinesis), they fight over changing the general population into mutants. Xavier decides to help mutants in a special school while waiting for humanity to be more accepting, while Magneto opts to change all "normal" people into mutants in order to create a mutant-only world. Leading a group of four powerful X-Men (and women) to rescue one lost girl (the mutant Rogue, played by Anna Paquin)--and the entire population of New York--Xavier recruits a new member to their group: Logan (Hugh Jackman), better known as Wolverine, joins the team with much reluctance, only to prove very valuable to the rescue effort.

3-0 out of 5 stars I needs me some Kelsey!!!
It was a lot better than I thought it would be and has definitely raised the bar for all other Marvel movies to come,in every aspect of film making. Sure it was different in someways than the book, but it could stand alone from them and more importantly it was good. As much as I liked the cheesy 70's and 80's Marvel movies(like Dr. Strange starring Peter Wooten in the title roll, thank you very much), Marvel movies to come will have to measure up to this one. And that's a good thing because sometimes Marvel doesn't place as much emphasis on story telling quality as it does on marketing. But they made one stupendous, unforgivable error. They left out Hank McCoy,aka The Beast! Woe betide them! I'm looking forward to a sequal, and I'll really enjoy it more if it contains the only X-Man who can fight crime in his swim trunks, differentiate between Keats & Yeats, type his doctoral thesis with his toes, the thinking man's Tarzan...........The Bombastic BEAST!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great first movie rendition of a comic!
I couldn't wait for this movie to hit the theaters.Likewise, I could wait to pick up the DVD.There are only a few criticisms to make if you, like me, grew up ready the X-men comics. For one, unlike their comic book superhero characters, the women (in particular, Storm and Jean) are much too weak. While on the flip side, traditionally weak characters like the Toad are made into formidable enemies with powers they never had in the comics.Although there is a real effort to make up for that in the sequels, it stood out in this one.For another, while many of the truly evil characters in the comics are loners with their own agenda, everyone unites under the leadership of the misguided Magneto in the movie (a sad fact that is not corrected in the sequels).Other than that (there are others but I won't bore you with the details), there are the small liberties with character profiles that one should expect when any piece of literature is brought to the big screen - like Rouge and Ice Man as teenagers instead of adults.Nevertheless, overall the movie is a great one in that it is a firs of its kind.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FLICK
Not as good as X2, but still a great movie. I never owned the regular release of this movie, in fact I just got the "1.5" version of it like 2 weeks ago used in Hastings for like $10. Mabye the regular release was better, mabye this one is... I dont know, & since this is the one I got, I dont give a s#it either! For $10, you cant go wrong!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Charming, Heartwarming Disney Classic!
Although it doesn't match to the brilliance of Mary Poppins or the technical wizardry of Pinnochio, Dumbo is still a charming animated feature with some of the best visuals put on the screen. The story of the elephant who can fly, imortalized in the Disneyland attraction is a great film.

3-0 out of 5 stars Foreseeing PC Dystopia
A cautionary tale of political-correctness taken to its logical extreme in a leftist dystopia that enforces "equality" and no one is permitted the freedom of achievement or failure, since everyone is made to have the same ability ---whether they like it or not.Mediocrity and standardization are enforced on citizens by a totalitarian socialist government of well-meaning know-better elites (who are of course exempt from their own rules) until one young man rebels and threatens their order. In the vein of Orwell's "1984" or Animal Farm, this is a classic allegory for left-wing authoritarian hyprocrisy and supression of the individual's identity in favor of the "group."

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny results of America's communist revolution !
This is a funny dark sci-fi comedy based on Kurt Vonnegut's short story, an anti-communist allegory exploring the ultimate result of a communist revolution in America. The new subjects are required to submit to various handicaps to make them all "equal," including bands to stupify their brains, leg weights, etc. Of course it turns out it's all enforced by an elite class led by Christopher Plummer (The Sound Of Music, Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country).
3-0 out of 5 stars A freak chance never to be lived down
I haven't seen this film in ages, but I remember it being an impulse rent from a family member who has yet to live down this particular event.Essentially, the family felt the movie was pretty bad, bad enough to be the top reason we don't let anyone impulse rent a movie they've never heard of for fear of witnessing a cataclysmicly bad movie.I give it three stars because while watching I knew that it was a story that would make a great short story but was not something that could be properly transferred to film...and I was pleasently surprised to find out recently that it was indeed based on a short story as I felt lo those many years ago.Now I must go hunt down the short story, because unlike the presentation in the movie, I found the idea behind it fascinating and very much look forward to seeing the idea portrayed in the medium it was meant to be in.

3-0 out of 5 stars Well.....................................
It could have been more realistic, but the special effects were good, the andalite ship looked cool, the music fit the movie, & it was darmatic ( I know, I spelled it wrong! sorry.) Over all it was okay, but they should have followed the books better. Read the books first, but the movie is worth watching. It has really good graficis. Howenver, they need to make everything ( espeillay the andalites) more realistic. And they seriously need to take out thatpart where Visser 3 pretends to be an adalite and goes, "Andalite cousin....." That is annoying & stupid. This was a good movie, though. Don't buy it, but get it from a libaray. It's worth watching.

3-0 out of 5 stars Well, it's okay.......................
I really like the books, but the movie twisted things around WHAY to much. To start:A)Where's Marco's sense of humor? B)Why does Visser 3 spend so much time in human morph? C)Ax is found in the ocean, NOT the construction site! D) Andilites DO NOT have manes! Where'ed they get that idea? E) After the first setence, Ax speaks perfectly- where's the stuttering? F) Why is Ax always in human morph? G)Why can't we ever see an ENTIRE andalite? H) THERE IS NO DISK! I)Andalite have 7 NOT 5 fingers J)Rachel is an ELEPHANT, not a lion, and Marco is a grorrila K)Where are the morphing outfits? L) Ax is supposed to be a technaligical genius M) Where's Cassie's morphing talent?

Michael Radford's adaption of George Orwell's foreboding literary premonition casts John Hurt and Suzanna Hamilton as lovers who must keep their courtship secret.Aside from criminalizing sex and interpersonal relationships, the ruling party in their country Oceania both fabricates reality and reconstructs history for the sake of oppressing the masses. They brainwash their citizens via large, propaganda-spewing TV monitors installed in their living rooms, which also inspect everyone's activities. Hurt and Hamilton are among the few we see desperately trying to fight the system by keeping control of their thoughts and beliefs. While the atmosphere becomes a bit too stifling at times, the images are quite striking with their muted colors and dilapidated sets. In an interesting bit of casting, Richard Burton costars (in his final role) as a government agent who surreptitiously exposes Hurt to the ideas of resistance. 5-0 out of 5 stars Humm it did not happen in 1984, but how about now???
Look at current events an our culture of fear. Look at them. This movie is great, but read the book 1st if you can.If not at least watch this movie and think about it.It is really scarry when you think about it and how did the author know ahead so far. While you are at it read brave new world. It is great too and will make you think too.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good production, but absolutely pointless
I should say first that this should be a good movie, at least on paper.John Hurt and Richard Burton turn in solid performances, and everything about the production -- set design, costumes, etc. -- looks just as it should. But there is something lacking in this adaptation that makes it pale compared to the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome movie, but...

As if alien invasion isn't enough to deal with, Rachel finds out herdivorced dad is moving 1,000 miles away and wants her to leave her friends, mother, and sister behind and join him in "The Stranger," the first of three 24-minute episodes based on the Scholastic book series by K.A. Applegate. While she is mulling over Dad's offer, Rachel and the rest of the band ofmorphing teenagers face a tempting offer: stay on earth and fight whatappears to be a losing battle to the invading Yeerks, or take refuge on a safeplanet with their families. In "The Leader," parts 1 and 2, Jake and Marcoare caught morphing into animals and launched into space to face a powerful new Yeerk leader, Visser One, who turns out to be the mother Marco thoughthad been dead for two years. The three episodes from Nickelodeon's prime-time series are sandwiched by extra footage of Marco first making his case to quit theteens' quest to save the earth and then, after discovering his mother's fate, vowing to fight until she is free. This well-produced adventure seriescombines domestic tales with science fiction geared toward ages6-12. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars concerned reader/watcher
The show is okay, but has no comparison to the book series. The books are more graphic, and funnier. Also, They twist the story around.Like in the reaction.Rachel is the one who has the allergec reaction, not cassie. The actors can't act either. The people who played Jake, Tobias, and Cassie are the only people that I have seen on other T.V. shows.

1-0 out of 5 stars Read the books
Read the books. They are awsome one of the best book series ever made. This show is [is bad]. Morphing is only showed half the time. In the books there are intenes battles and an awsome story. In this show there are no battles just sneaking around. There are no Taxxons. The andalites look like weird mupputs and you never see there whole body at once. Ax and Visser three are always in human morph. The hork bajar look right but they don't move anywhere. They just stand there. Remember the witty and smart dialoge of the books replaced with stupid and unrehersed acting of the show. The charactors don't look like the book charactors at all. Read the books don't watch this [show].

5-0 out of 5 stars The Enemy Among Us
This movie is great. The 4th one is the best but this one is right behind it.In the Stranger Rachel is offered by her dad to move 1,000 miles away with him. Then Jake, Rachel, Marco, and Cassie are warned by Tobias that Ax is in trouble. They attempt to save him but are caught in a net. Then the net vanishes.Tobias is in human form much to everyone's suprise. They are greeted by a being called the Ellimist. He offers them a chance to leave Earth with their families including a human Tobias, Tom, and possibly Marco's mom.He shows them what happens in the future after they are caught.Rachel is Visser Three's (now Visser One) best warrior and Tobias was roasted and eaten with barbaque sauce.Rachel takes a knife from her older self. The Animorphs refuse his offer. They are caught in the net.Rachel cuts it with the knife.Marco and Rachel save Ax and Rachel doesn't go with her father. In The leader Part 1 Jake discovers there is a second Kandrona at the EGS tower. They set out to destroy it. JAke and Marco are captured and taken to the Mother Ship where MArco discovers a suprising secret. In Part 2 Jake and Marco steal a Blade SHip and with Ax's help they get back to Earth.Marco now has a new reason to fight the Yeerks. ... James Hilton's novel

5-0 out of 5 stars The Valley of the Blue Moon
James Hilton's novel was fashioned by a young Frank Capra in the 1930's into this flawed but must-see film classic. Robert Riskin's screenplay is too preachy at times, with less emphasis on the romance than there should have been, but an exciting finish and terrific individual moments make this a great film anyway.
5-0 out of 5 stars FDR's Secret Base revealed in this Classic film
The impact of this work over the years has been considerable. James Hilton wrote the novel as an anti-war ideal. Hilton was an intelligent man and saw what was coming for the world in the 30's and tried to create an imaginary place of ease, cultural pursuits and knowledge free from the toil and terrors of the world, especially death itself. It became a great novel in the history of fiction. The book became really big after pocket books produced the FIRST paperback and made this work the object of that new development. Then Capra made the monumental movie that we have all come to appreciate, once again, prophetic about the coming war and suggestive of continuance after humanity is done tearing each other apart. Yet, it was NOT finished, the spirit continued into World War II,after the first daring bombing of Tokyo, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt told the press that the source of the bombers came "from our secret base in Shangri-La Gentlemen!". With this in mind, Father Perot continues to deliver the message of "Be kind" to this day and Shangri-La is carried into every human mind that understands the basic philosophy behind this picture. Of course, since it was made in the 30's, it is somewhat dated now in characterizations, which remind you of Flash Gordon serials done at a slightly slower pace. Coleman reminds us of the cynical attitude we take as we roll with the punches that life throws upon us. When you get to this point, usually somewhere in your 40's, you are ready to throw in everything for just a chance at Shangri-La. Escape from the toils of the world into a physical ideal place is of course, a set in the imagination of writers, even Evelyn Waugh's Charles Ryder in 'Brideshead Revisited" (1945) sought "that low door in the wall that opened to an enchanted garden, where others I knew had gone before me, not overlooked by any window in that gray city". Our nature is like a restless Henry David Thoreau in "Walden" or a wandering Walt Whitman in "Leaves of Grass", always seeking that magic place where we will finally be able to sleep without worry. THIS is Shangri-La. It is part of the American Spirit and that is why this movie is such an important picture despite it's faults. Capra spent a lot on this production. Young people need to see it and understand that famous quote "those who do not learn from History are doomed to repeat it". Once again, forms of Fascism are on the Horizon. The "Lost" Horizon may be our own if we fail to communicate this to future generations. Let us hope that we can build Shangi-La in reality someday as more than just an ideal in our imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mr Chang and his Shangri-La.
When I heard this film LOST HORIZON (1937), was being painstakingly restored and with much more footage found in the vaults, after seeing some of the footage, I thought I had to see it some day. They say every film student and movie buff should see it.

It is so great to see so many other fans of this movie.I read the book "Outrageous Conduct" after I had seen the movie and I will never look at it the same way again!Landis may have been breaking the rules with children working after hours and a helicopter on such a small set, but the fact remains that it was in fact an accident!A tragic and regretable one, to be sure, but still an accident.
5-0 out of 5 stars Get Over It & A Message To Matt from Arizona
Have you people who want to hang John Landis ever been acquainted with a particular word in the English language called "accident"? According to your opinions on wanting to punish John Landis for the "accident" that killed two children and Vic Morrow, you all act like Mr. Landis programmed and planned the entire incident just to kill three people! How infantile can you possibly be?

5-0 out of 5 stars If Fantasia Was A Perfect 100, Fantasia 2000 Is About An 89
Not quite up to par with the original, this LONG awaited second installment (not the same thing as a sequel) was hampered by interruptions when celebrities came on-screen to discuss the works. Not only did this in my opinion disrupt the continuity of the visual accompaniments to some of the human species' most beautiful music, but in fifty years people aren't going to know who most of those by-then long-dead women and men are, and this is supposed to be a classic for the ages. I also think Fantasia 2000 was missing the delight elements of abstraction and darkness the first film had. Finally I wish it had broken the mold of modern animation by being hand-drawn and painted, instead of making the extensive use of computers as the producers so clearly did.
5-0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL MUSIC MARRIED TO DISNEY'S PUREST ANIMATION EFFORTS:WHAT COULD BE BETTER?
FIRST THOUGHTS:
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
See, THIS is what Disney should be aspiring to these days! This film was a wonderful example of what Disney artists USED to do, and no longer seem capable of producing.
