    Editorial Review

Andrei Konchalovsky's expansive television mini-series production of Homer's epic poem gets off to clumsy start as he tries to squeeze the Trojan War into a mere half hour, but once the arrogant but honorable Odysseus (strikingly played by Armand Assante) and his loyal crew begin their doomed voyage home, this film turns into a fantastical adventure. Integrating often-stunning special effects with inventive art design, Konchalovsky achieves a beautiful look on a limited budget as he follows the 10-year ordeal of Odysseus from his battles with the Cyclops and the magical Circe (Bernadette Peters) to his secret homecoming and his confrontation with the treacherous Eurymachus (Eric Roberts). Isabella Rossellini appears as his spiritual guide, the goddess Athena, with Greta Scacchi as Odysseus's faithful wife and Vanessa Williams as the seductive Calypso. The rest of the cast includes Geraldine Chaplin, Jeroen Krabbé, Christopher Lee, and Irene Papas. The production was shot on location in and around the Mediterranean, making for a lush, lovely visual experience. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Near Perfect Rendering of an Epic Tale
This particular film adaptation of Homer's epic poem, staring Armand Assante as Odysseus, and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, from the studios of Hallmark Entertainment, is more than likely the best film rendition of this grand story.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good, faithful adaptation
In the comentary, the director upfront admitts wishing to focus on the most entertaining parts of the Odyssey and this he does. I do not believe their is much to criticize (although there are some to be done) given the fact that even with scenes removed the runtime of the film is close to four hours. Therefore credit is due for fitting as much as they did.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Wasted Voyage
Although the book version of the Odyssey was capturing, the movie was rather disappointing because they left out quite a few scenes and changed the story a bit in some parts, which made it rather dull.

5-0 out of 5 stars God didn't put us here to spend our lives in cubicles!
When I first saw this little film, it was aired on Comedy Central with none of the fanfare that it should have received since it's initial release. In fact, Office Space has reached cult status for a reason. It's funny, witty, and always makes you laugh. The cast includes Jennifer Aniston in a supporting role as the waitress/girlfriend of Ron Livingston's character who has an epiphany during a group therapy session. Alex Wentworth plays his girlfriend in her shorter role. Anyway, I don't remember the man who plays the Arab employee and friend of Ron's character but he should be applauded for his role. Newsradio Stephen Root should have his own sitcom for his performance as Milton, the poor picked on employee who reaches a breaking point in the film. Diedrich Bader plays the neighbor next door who offers wisdom to Ron's character in the film. Mad TV's alum Gregory Herman plays another colleague and computer geek. Another Mad TV alum Orlando Jones plays a guy selling magazines door to door. HE turns out not to be the person you think he is. Gary Cole has a memorable performance as the boss who thinks he knows it all but doesn't know anything. Movies like Office Space make me understand what we have become for those of us in the office. Imagine, if we just didn't have to work anymore. That would be heaven for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars FUNNY AND DELIGHTFUL COMEDY
"Office Space" is a very funny comedy. Many parts of the film were a delight. In the beginning, when everyone is stalled in traffic, I knew the feeling. Working at Initech Corporation as a computer programmer makes for one dull job in the life of Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston). Besides having a job he hates, he is enclosed in a cubicle as everyone else is. Then there is his boss Lumbergh--an arrogant jerk. Life for Peter Gibbons is just one boring day after another. That is until he decides to go see a counselor at the suggestion [and demands] of his then girlfriend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Classics
This video contains what are perhaps the two best-known and loved TWILIGHT ZONE titles, "Time Enough at Last" and "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street."The former episode stars Burgess Meredith as a bookish bank teller named Henry Bemis.Scolded by his boss and his wife for being "a reader," Bemis retires to the bank's vault each day during his lunch hour to indulge his passion. One day while he is reading in the vault, a nuclear explosion happens and the earth is turned into a wasteland.Stumbling upon the remains of a public library, Bemis declares that now he has all the time in the world to read - but does he really?Serling's script for "Time Enough at Last" is whimsical though ultimately tragic, with similarities to both "The Obsolete Man" (also with Meredith) and "The Lonely."

Time Enough At Last - A sole survivor of a nuclear war is all alone in its aftermath. First, he finds solace in books. However, after he breaks his reading glasses, he is lost.

4-0 out of 5 stars FEATURES GOOD ALIENS or BAD ALIENS: TAKE YOUR PICK!
This original pilot from 1964 [that never aired until almost 30 years went by] is very different from, yet very similar to, the Star Trek that we all know and love. Except for Spock as Science Officer and Majel Barrett as First Officer, the entire crew is different, yet the ship appears the same. The crew [just 203 vs. 400+], however, looks like they are a mix of 1960s beach-party extras and stuntmen. Call it an eclectic cast or maybe just thrown together, take your pick.
5-0 out of 5 stars You can see the seeds of the Star Trek phenomena
The only way to view this video is with your mind firmly locked into the historical context. When Gene Roddenberry first proposed the Star Trek series to network executives, the American television viewers were in the midst of their love affair with the western. Therefore, he described the proposed series as "wagon train to the stars." However, that is not what he gave them, and there were some objections, so a second pilot was requested. 3-0 out of 5 stars "I'll break out of this zoo somehow and get to you!"
One of the most enduring legacies on television actually had a very curious beginning with "The Cage."The first pilot for the original Star Trek series featured the U.S.S. Enterprise and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) but the iconic Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) was nowhere to be found.Instead the original captain of the famous Federation starship was none other than Captain Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter). While Captain Pike is still remembered among the fan base, he has faded into obscurity among the general public.Yet his one moment in the spotlight was notable for setting the progressive and high-minded tone of the Kirk-led adventures that would follow.Read more

A good wizard finds his magical powers diminishing as this Rankin/Bass production based on the Peter Dickinson novel opens. His nemesis, the evil Ommadon (voiced by James Earl Jones at his deepest and scariest), swiftly takes advantage of the situation. Who will save the world? Why, none other than a young scientist-novelist-game inventor, named Peter Dickenson (mildly voiced by John Ritter), who is zapped from the future back into the time of dragons. Populating this Japanese-animation fantasy film are the titular fire-breathing dragons, the wizards, a knight, a maiden, some elves, and--in a feminist departure from tradition--a heroic bowwoman. The battles are fairly mild and most of the virtuous characters recover, making this a good choice for family viewing, as well as a staple for the fantasy fanatic's video library.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Release a DVD already!!!!!
I haved loved this movie ever since I was a child.Unfortunately it's cover has never done this movie justice, the animation is so detailed, very much like the style of the movie The Hobbit. This is such a classic that it would be both a shame and a loss to future generations if this story was not rereleased to DVD.The dragons are depicted as intellegent magestic beings with personalities instead of 2 demensional snarling & preditory creatures (well most of them anyway). I think this was one of the 1st projects to approach Dragons this way, paving a way for movies like Dragonheart. It also tries to shed some light on dragon issues like breathing fire and flight. This is a truly beautiful story.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Treasure
I watched this as a child, and came upon it by accident on YouTube. It's an amazing under-rated movie--especially considering all the commercial garbage that came out in the 80s. The animation is interesting, though nothing near the quality of today--but compared to other things from the 80s it kicked [...](and the silly cover does it NO justice--btw).
5-0 out of 5 stars DVD! DVD! DVD! DVD!
I will have to agree wholeheartedly that Flight of Dragons was (and still is)my favorite childhood movie. In the 80's, my parents searched far and wide for this movie- and paid like $40 dollars for the VHS, which actually is misprinted as BETA. That was quite possibly my best Christmas present in memory. Now, at 25 years of age, I still LOVE this movie, although I only watch it a few times a year in fear that the tape will wear out. It is a tragedy that this movie has not yet been released on DVD. I had no idea that this movie touched so many people, which is all the more reason to release it on DVD. "...Is it the past I seek, when I look up to the heavens, believing in the magic that I know could never be. I want to go where they are goin, into the world they've been, can I open up my mind enough to see...Flight of Dragons..." ON DVD! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Love That Moves Sun and Planets
The bereaved father who's lost his seven year old daughter, upon visiting her grave twelve years later, finds his daughter's body perfectly preserved - just as he had left it. His fellow townspeople call the event a miracle but the town bishop wants the child reburied. The father must fight his way through political and religious obstacles to have his daughter declared a first Colombian Saint.
5-0 out of 5 stars "If only life were so simple."
Elvia Duarte is just seven years old when she dies inexplicably in her father's arms. She is buried, but twelve years later, the cemetery is scheduled for renovation, and survivors of the dead are given a chance to retrieve the remains of their loved ones. Elvia's father Margarito (Frank Ramirez) exhumes Elvia's body, and it's then he discovers a miracle--her body is still perfect, soft and warm, and her hair and nails have continued to grow in the twelve years since her death. With this evidence of a miracle, Margarito cannot bear to re-bury his daughter, and soon local religious officials push him into seeking sainthood for his daughter. Seeking canonization for Elvia proves to be no simple task. Margarito takes his daughter's body from his native Columbia to Rome, and there he struggles withbureaucratic and ecclesiastical red tape.
    5-0 out of 5 stars A father's love, a daughter's eternal sleep...
This is a strangely beautiful yet sensual film about the love of a father for his dead child. When a man's seven-year-old daughter suddenly dies his grief is terrible and he visits her grave regularly, finding comfort in the knowledge that he can be near to her.But after twelve years the tomb she has lain in is to be demolished so he is forced to take her body to be buried elsewhere.Read more

    Editorial Review

The J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy classic set in Middle-earth was adapted into this excellent 1978 animated feature first broadcast on television. Codirectors Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr., working from a script by Romeo Muller, are faithful to Tolkien's story and for that alone they get big points. The vocal cast can't be improved upon: Orson Bean is perfect as Bilbo Baggins, the timorous hobbit who grows brave on his adventure with the wizard Gandalf (John Huston). Otto Preminger is the voice of Elvenking, Richard Boone is Smaug, Hans Conreid is Thorin, and Brother Theodore is very effective as the weird Gollum. Terrific for kids and adults alike. Read more

Thanks to all the reviewers who panned the DVD because of the bad audio. I was thinking of buying the dvd to replace my vhs copy but i'll wait and transfer it myself since my copy's still in pretty good shape.
3-0 out of 5 stars Its interesting
I really think that it was great that they made an attempt at bringing the classic tale to the screen. I just got my D.V.D. of it today and watched it. One thing I missed - one thing that is in the book, but not in the movie - was that Beorn wasn't in it, neither was the Arkenstone. Most of the music is good enough, but while I liked the trolls and spiders, I did NOT like the goblins nor the elves (with the exception of Elrond and his huge 'crown'). Smagol-Gollum's voice was also done well enough.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Songs and Animation are first class!!!
The Songs are spectacular. I can't say enough about the music in this master piece of Animation. I saw this when I was a little one and I still watch it!!! (I am now 33.) This is a great adventure and you will get it all!!! Gollum's eye will thrill you. The Animation will grab you. You will be singing along before you know it!!! This is an intense movie where the music adds to help tell this great story. The character voices are amazing. The soundtrack is first class!!!! There is even a great dragon, as well as great trolls, swords, dagger animation, armor, waterfalls, battle-scenes, fire, spiders, and treasure. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing
I love Power Ranger since I was a kid, it was nice to see the Lost Galaxy Ranger back again but the major problem is that this isn't a movie! It's an episode I saw it when they aired Lightspeed Rescue. Leo's voice is 100% different and the Lost Galaxy Morphing was different then the actual episode morphing. I was very disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buddhism meets Word For World Is Forest in this Who story
"Paradise, isn't it?The sun shines, the birds sing, food grows on trees?"On the lush forest world planet S14 (Deva Loka), the Doctor and Adric run into an Earth military expedition consisting of Colonel Saunders, Security Officer Hindle, and Dr. Todd, the surviving members of a former six-person mission on whether or not to colonize Kinda. The forest world concept is borrowed from Ursula LeGuin's 1970's story The World For World Is Forest, which was an indirect protest against the US presence in Vietnam.5-0 out of 5 stars "You can't mend people!"
"Kinda", first broadcast in 1982 (not 1975 - how did Amazon come up with that?) as part of season 19, is easily one of the best Peter Davison adventures, if not the entire series. A race of telepathic people, the Kinda, are in turn using and being used by a Terran survey team, all the while trying to avoid the foretold 'second coming' of an ancient and terrible evil, the Mara. Although it seems simplistic, the telling of the story is quite original and, like other recent adventures, geared more in a classic science-fiction vein. Ultimately, however, the whole thing is based around the concepts of Buddhism.5-0 out of 5 stars Peter Davison at his finest
When I read a review for "Kinda,"all I heard was that Janet Fielding was real great in it and such praise like that. So, when I watched it, I found (to my delight) that most of the companions really didn't do much in this story.Nyssa mainly sleeps though the adventure in the TARDIS,Tegan has weird dreams and gets possessed, and Adric is trapped in the dome with the psychos.Who, in my opinion, really shines in this story is Peter Davison. While he gave a great performance in "Castrovalva," he had not established what his Doctor was going to be like.In "Kinda," we get our first look at the Fifth Doctor's personae.Doctor Todd is another outstanding character in the story, and is the Doctor's stand-in companion during this adventure. There's of course little things like huge rubber snakes that strain your suspended disbelief, but that's part of Doctor Who.Any fan of the Fifth Doctor or Peter Davison should watch this. ... "Last Clear Chance" is probably my favorite: The local neighborhood policeman comes to visit the family farm and lectures Junior about the dangers of driving recklessly...but older brother doesn't listen! "What to Do on a Date" and "The Days of Our Years" (another Union Pacific morality gem abouthow carelessness might just ruin your life) come pretty close. "A Day at the Fair" and "Keeping Clean" are somewhat strange, but still relatively good. I just wish Volume 3 could have kept up the momentum!

4-0 out of 5 stars Short of perfection
The MST3K gang makes fun of old eduacation and propaganda clips. Humor ensues. Whether you're a fan or not, if you appreciate cracking jokes at outrageously stupid short films, this movie is for you. And when it incorporates several different films, it manages to keep your attention longer, and therefore keep you laughing longer. The first few films are kind of low-quality, but the video gradually gets better and better until reaching the grand finale, one of the funniest clips in the entire Shorts volume. Now Shorts Volume 1 is much better than this, but Volume 2 is still a wonderful installment in the series. Better than most of the feature-length films. Definitely worth your time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertainment 1000 times over
I don't know how many times I have watched Shorts 2, but it certainly recommended by me.All our friends want us to put it in when they come over and I laugh every time, even when I know what's coming.Definitely get this if you love humor and the cleverness and wit of Joel, Mike, Crow, and Tom Servo! ... Editorial Review

In a misty London train station, four siblings await their journey to the country, a place to avoid the bombs of World War II, a place where one boy imagines nothing ever happens. As it turns out, the old professor's spooky country house is ripe for exploration. Lucy, Edmund, Susan, and Peter's adventures begin when the back wall of a fur-coat filled wardrobe opens up into the magical world of Narnia, where, because of the malevolent White Witch's spell, it is "always winter and never Christmas." Before long, the children (the Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve) are participating in an epic, allegorically Christian battle between good (Aslan the lion) and evil (as represented by the diabolical White Witch, played with wonderfully hideous zeal by Barbara Kellerman).Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AFaithfulRetelling ofThe Lion, and the Witch, and the Wardrobe
The seven Chronicles of Narnia written by C.S Lewis sold more than one hundred copies. The first film adaption of the first book, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe was a televisionmovie made by Bill Melendrez who also made Sesame Street. It was good, but not as decent as other cartoons I have seen. I was somewhat disapointed that they did not show Father Christmas. The Rankin/Bass cartoons have far better drama and backgrounds. Still, just because it isn't my favorite movie, doesn't mean it is bad. A live-action version of the first book was finally made in 1988. The live-action The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is a BBC and WonderWorks production, directed by Marilyn Fox, produced by Paul Stone, and dramatised by Alan Seymour. Unfortunately, the BBC Version has poor special effects and sets. Fortunately, it is a faithful adaptation of the book, and it has good acting, especially the professor and Lucy. Aslan, the great Lion, is magniciently voiced by Ronald Pickup. The White Witch is a little overdone with her acting, but apart from that is fine. The Christian tones of the book are emphasized or else it would not be faithful to the book. C.S Lewis said that the Narnia books were Christian paralells, not Christian allegories. He said everything began with images, such as the faun and the witch. His idea of Aslan came when he was having dreams about lions. This is around the time he became a Christian. The film has beautiful scenery, rather like that of the Laurentians in Quebec, although it was actually shot in rural England and Wales. Cair Paravel was located next to the Atlantic Coast in Wales. The five stars rating is more of a personal opinion than anything else. I don't mind the occasionally weak special effects and sets. I first began to watch to watch the movie at a youth group, but unfortunately it was stopped because some of the smaller children were scared of the White Witch. I was disapointed, because the moment I began to watch it, I knew how wonderful it was going to be for me.I found it at the library and watched the rest of it. It is one of my very favorite movies.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best version of "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe"
It followed the storyline very well, and the cast wasn't bad. However, it wasn't smart to make this movie at the time they made it. The 80's and early 90's didn't have the special effects that we have today. The scenery wasn't too good and the battle wasn't exciting at all. Also, it's not smart to have actors were animal costumes. It's too childish. ... Read more
