3-0 out of 5 stars The dreams of youth...
...are the regrets of maturity.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just to counter all the negative reviews...the Duck is what it is.
I understand why someone who is looking for a great film would be disappointed.Howard the Duck is no Saving Private Ryan or English Patient.Thankfully not all films are or we'd be really bored. What Howard The Duck IS is entertaining. It's a guy in a duck suit...so what? It's pretty funny and refreshingly enjoyable to watch. It is a well made B-movie...so if you look at it on that level then it's a lot of fun.And it's not helpful to compare the film which is aimed at a young audience to the comic which was very adult. Two different things entirely...really, if there were enough fans of the comic (and I'm one) then there would be a new, adult version of Howard.I don't see that happening. So enjoy the film for what it is.I hope the DVD does it justice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now people we need to get over it.
If nothing else this should be released on DVD as a "B-Movie cult classic" Now I'm not going to say it should have won an Oscar but for goodness sake this movie is fun if nothing else...come on it had a naked duck with nipples. That's pretty cool...You know Lucas is just making us sweat and will bust out a CG Howard before you know it. ... Editorial Review

When the totalitarian planet of Mongo decides on a whim to obliterate Earth, it's up to the lunk-headed quarterback Flash Gordon and his oddball companions to make the universe safe for democracy. Based on the classic (and infinitely more reputable) comic strip and its '30s screen serialization, this cotton-candy-colored trash classic deserves immortality for Queen's unforgettably pulsating soundtrack alone. The legendary Max von Sydow appears to be having a blast as the evil Ming the Merciless, while Ornella Muti, as his daughter, is the living embodiment of what attracts adolescent boys to comics in the first place. (She makes Barbarella look mundane.) One of the most shamelessly entertaining movies ever made, this is a knowingly absurd sensory freak-out that'll have the viewer blissfully checking the sky afterward for signs of Hawkmen. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars George Lucas, please take note
This remake of the classic serial adventure plays like the opposite of the recent 'Star Wars' prequels: it's campy, silly, goofy, cheesy...and a lot of fun.
5-0 out of 5 stars Why has this not been reissued!!
Oi, it's true this has come out on dvd already but, hey it came out on dvd almost ten years ago.Back then DVD players were around the price of 700 bucks so, this movie was released in a very very small print run...... Here it is 2006 dvd players are 50 bucks and this movie is still not rereleased and ironicly sells more than it cost to buy a dvd player!?!? Whats up with that?????Why has this great cheesy sci fi film yet to see a reissue or some sort of "collectors tin" edition just so they can charge 30 bucks. Either way I'd be estatic to see this come out on dvd at a price I could afford!!!The only thing I could see thats preventing this from being rereleased is the soundtrack royalties...... If so, hey queen please don't be greedy or hey universal don't be cheap on royalties.... I don't know who's at fault but, come on bring this film to dvd again at a price we can afford.... Someone is sitting on this film because it's not even rerunned on some offshoot of a turner network like it was throughout the eighties..... Bring this back to dvd! Flesh Gordon is easily findable on dvd but, not the real movie..... Oh, as for a review of this film this is a movie about a jets quaterback who saves the universe! And in space if one recalls dudes bleed blue blood since theres no oxygen ;) And the soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks made by one band for a movie period. No songs feel forced into the movie... Instead each track flows perfectly with this film.... IE this was made in the day when soundtracks where just that soundtracks to the film. Not some junk to sell a new "artist's" single like soundtracks are so like today.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow - has it really been 26 years since Flash saved every one of us?
And what thanks did he get? No special treatment, no Superbowl ring, not even a crummy twenty-fifth anniversary re-release on DVD. Where's the justice? Where are the special features? Where's the widescreen, digital transfer? What the heck ever happened to Sam Jones? Is Ming the Merciless running the Universal Studios home video division? Will my children be doomed to a lifetime of Flash-lessness? Please, Flash, say it's not so!

3-0 out of 5 stars An Improved -But Still Flawed - FIlm
I actually liked "Attack Of The Clones," but it's despite the important plot points included in it's story.
1-0 out of 5 stars Lucas says he won't make any more Movies
Yes!! "Fist Pump", no more crappy movies, if only he had stopped making them after Return of the Jedi.
1-0 out of 5 stars Why does Obi-Wan Kenobi look like Jesus Christ?
Picking up 10 years later, Anakin Skywalker is no longer an adorable if stoic little kid but now a tall, gangly, jerky young man (Hayden Christensen) with a tendency to whine and bitch about stuff for no apparent reason (takes things way too personally he does). Well, him and his master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) are assigned to protect former queen turned senator Padme (Natalie Portman) after ten years apart from an assassin. This job eventually leads to Obi-Wan being separated from Anakin while he investigates the assassin who happens to be involved with a cloning conspiracy and this later leads him to a renegade Jedi master played by Christopher Lee. Guess what? Anakin still has the hots for Padme and whilst Obi-Wan is away Anakin would like nothing better than to strip her naked and get her in the sack. The future Darth Vader also has a nightmare about his mom's death back on Tatioone and he FINALLY goes to rescue her but by the time he gets there she's already dead so he goes and kills the cannibal Sand People who killed her.

Shot on location in numerous countries, this ambitious Wim Wendersfantasy takes Sam Neill, Solveig Dommartin, William Hurt, and a ragtag group in pursuit around the world and back again. Though set in 1999 under the shadow of impending disaster as a wobbly nuclear satellite threatens to Chernobyl the planet, the leisurely gait of their worldwide escapades has a distinctly '40s-era decadence. The ultimate object of their quest is a machine that records visual information from one person and reconstructs it in the brains of others--granting the miraculous power of sight to the blind for one thing, but even more mystically, enabling a person's dreams to be recorded. When the film seeks resolutions on the most intimate questions of the human soul which dovetail with the possibility of a destroyed world, the film is hampered by the VHS running time, which subtracts several hours from the laser disc version. But numerous joys, not least among them Jeanne Moreau and Max von Sydow as Hurt's parents, inhabit this thought-provoking film. Read more

It is simply baffling that this film is not available on DVD.It is a classic and beautiful film...raising the bar for what other artist directors can aspire towards.Invest the effort to track this film down and be rewarding with a new, wider horizon in your life.

In a time when race and religion don't separate people, but extra powers and mutated characteristics do, two longtime friends, Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) part ways, only to become rivals over the issue of how much patience they should have with "normal" people. Living lives that scare most humans lacking the "X-factor" (a special power such as telekinesis), they fight over changing the general population into mutants. Xavier decides to help mutants in a special school while waiting for humanity to be more accepting, while Magneto opts to change all "normal" people into mutants in order to create a mutant-only world. Leading a group of four powerful X-Men (and women) to rescue one lost girl (the mutant Rogue, played by Anna Paquin)--and the entire population of New York--Xavier recruits a new member to their group: Logan (Hugh Jackman), better known as Wolverine, joins the team with much reluctance, only to prove very valuable to the rescue effort.

3-0 out of 5 stars I needs me some Kelsey!!!
It was a lot better than I thought it would be and has definitely raised the bar for all other Marvel movies to come,in every aspect of film making. Sure it was different in someways than the book, but it could stand alone from them and more importantly it was good. As much as I liked the cheesy 70's and 80's Marvel movies(like Dr. Strange starring Peter Wooten in the title roll, thank you very much), Marvel movies to come will have to measure up to this one. And that's a good thing because sometimes Marvel doesn't place as much emphasis on story telling quality as it does on marketing. But they made one stupendous, unforgivable error. They left out Hank McCoy,aka The Beast! Woe betide them! I'm looking forward to a sequal, and I'll really enjoy it more if it contains the only X-Man who can fight crime in his swim trunks, differentiate between Keats & Yeats, type his doctoral thesis with his toes, the thinking man's Tarzan...........The Bombastic BEAST!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great first movie rendition of a comic!
I couldn't wait for this movie to hit the theaters.Likewise, I could wait to pick up the DVD.There are only a few criticisms to make if you, like me, grew up ready the X-men comics. For one, unlike their comic book superhero characters, the women (in particular, Storm and Jean) are much too weak. While on the flip side, traditionally weak characters like the Toad are made into formidable enemies with powers they never had in the comics.Although there is a real effort to make up for that in the sequels, it stood out in this one.For another, while many of the truly evil characters in the comics are loners with their own agenda, everyone unites under the leadership of the misguided Magneto in the movie (a sad fact that is not corrected in the sequels).Other than that (there are others but I won't bore you with the details), there are the small liberties with character profiles that one should expect when any piece of literature is brought to the big screen - like Rouge and Ice Man as teenagers instead of adults.Nevertheless, overall the movie is a great one in that it is a firs of its kind.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FLICK
Not as good as X2, but still a great movie. I never owned the regular release of this movie, in fact I just got the "1.5" version of it like 2 weeks ago used in Hastings for like $10. Mabye the regular release was better, mabye this one is... I dont know, & since this is the one I got, I dont give a s#it either! For $10, you cant go wrong!!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

A mysterious, pilotless plane carries scientist Rex Reason to a colony of America's best and brightest minds. They've been kidnapped by a dying alien race, the Metalunians, to repair their defense shield before their enemies destroy their world completely, toiling under their spying eyes and futuristic security cameras (two-way TVs that dominate every room). Jeff Morrow, under a raised forehead, bronze tan, and snow-white hair, philosophizes as Exeter, the thoughtful Metalunian torn between his duty and his morals as he forces the plucky humans to labor in his race's defense. The moody mystery of the first half turns to pure pulp adventure when the humans are transported across the galaxy to the battle-scarred world of Metaluna, under the threatening watch of a monstrous bug-eyed monster with a giant brain for a head and massive claws for hands. There's a genuine sense of wonder to Joseph Newman's intergalactic adventure, one of the most ambitious science fiction films of the 1950s. The story is simple space opera, but the futuristic designs of glass and metal, the marvelous alien makeup, and grandstanding special effects invest the film with a Technicolor splendor. 1-0 out of 5 stars Starts Out Promising, but Ultimately Fails to Deliver Much. Bummer.
This film is forgotten amongst 1950's pseudo-intellectual sci-fi movies for good reason: it fails to deliver any type of philosophical moral to the story, (as the few, best of the 1950's fantasy/sci-fi films did), and the monster scenes are way too brief (as most 1950's monster movies at least got that much right)! THIS ISLAND EARTH is a two-time loser in my opinion.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Island Earth
The plot is corny but I loved it.The Metalunians have the technology to travel 80 billion miles through space and yet they come to earth of all places seeking help to save their planet from exploding.I guess the humans being too stupid for extended space travel have to be smart at something, right? However, once you get over the plot, this movie is very entertaining given the neat special effects of the 50's, the interocitor (sp?) powered by a thyratron, the transport aircraft etc ..,This fits right in there with the origional war of the worlds and is from the era when they made fun, non explicit movies for the whole family

3-0 out of 5 stars Pleasing 50's sci-fi fare still fun to watch
Let's start with the most important stuff here if you've seen this classic 50's film. How does it look, sound and are there any worthwhile extras? The colors look quite nice in this print. The Image disc appeared a bit blurry at times with colors bleeding. That doesn't occur here. "This Island Earth" was shot using the Technicolor three strip process (except for the visual effects). The film was shot in full screen but presented in widescreen. That will bug you if you have a widescreen monitor but probably won't if you have a standard TV. Three and a half stars for the visual presentation because it isn't presented in its original widescreen presentation.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Instant Classic
Star wars A new hope was orginally released in 1977....Later on they released this movie again in 1997 as "Star Wars-Special Edition" together with the other trilogy films.
5-0 out of 5 stars You're My Only Hope.
The first original Star Wars AKA Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope is held close to my heart. It is the first Star Wars I have ever seen and is probably my second favorite out of the entire saga. This is one of the only Star Wars that is just plain fun and exciting all the time. The film has interesting characters, great dialogue, and humor. The storyline is original and keeps you hooked through it's entire run time. The direction is fantastic. The film had much trouble during the shooting, but Lucas spent months perfecting it. He pushed it's Christmas release of 76" to the summer of 77". The special effects are great and the creatures look creepy and absolutely hilarious at other times. The acting is rather good. At it's relaese date everyone in the film, besides Alec Guiness, was a newcomer. Everyone really did well in developing and representing their character. Guiness' portral of Obi-Wan Kenobi is probably my favorite performance followed by Hamill's Luke. The score is just beautiful. It gives every scene a new depth. The opening title and summary of the film is classic. The original Star Wars is a great film that will live on for generations.

Rutger Hauer and Kim Cattrall star in this festival of stolen plots and embarrassing dialogue. Harley Stone (Hauer) is a tough cop. The kind of cop who lives by his own rules. 4-0 out of 5 stars The people selling this movie are a bunch of crooks!
This is a good movie. One of Rutger's best, but there ISN'T a movie out there that I would pay over 20$ bucks for, if I was a collector or not.The people on here selling this movie are just trying to make a fast buck and should be shot in the head. This movie will be on sale in the public market once again some day. When you see it at Walmart for 14$ bucks, you're really gonna kick yourself...don't let these theives steal your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still the best!
If you are a Rutger Hauer fan like I am, then you will love this movie!
3-0 out of 5 stars Good Action for Hauer Fans
Fans of movies like Dolph Lundgren's "I Come in Peace" or Rutger Hauer fans will want to catch this one. Plenty of action, decent acting, some comedy, and fairly decent story and music. When the city becomes flooded and bodies that are badly ripped up start showing up, Unorthodox detective Harley Stone is called in to investigate the cause. Only two problems, he has to have a partner on the case played by Neil Duncan, which he doesn't want, and the killer is an alien. Add in a delectable girlfriend played by Kim Cattrall and you have a nice afternoon matinee. This may not have the depth of movies he has done like "Blade Runner", but it sure is more fun like "Wedlock" or "Blind Fury". ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Actually, A 3 1/2 Star Film
No movie in this series will ever top the first "Jurassic Park". That film thrilled audiences with their first glimpse of realistic, inter-acting dinosaurs. That magic feeling, of course, would not last for long, because of the dearth of CGI-enhanced films that followed the film's blazing run in theaters. "Jurassic Park 3", however, is definately an improvement over the second film in the series,"The Lost World", for a few good reasons: first, the film is short and to the point. It's basically a thrill ride to the end. Second, the special effects are just that: special. The dinosaurs are jaw-dropping in their appearance, making some inconsistancies with the other films just a bit more palatable. And third, although I enjoyed the rather Godzilla-like T-Rex attack on San Diego, it was really out of place in the second film, and there was nothing like that in this one. It was good to see Sam Neil back, and Laura Dern, also, if only in a small cameo-type role. As I said, while a true sequel, meaning not as good as the original, it's still highly entertaining in a thrill-park way. The picture transfer is great, the sound clear and sharp. There are interesting bonus features to explore, and overall, this is a solid DVD to have.

THIS MOVIE ALMOST TOPS THE FIRST. HERE ARE THE GOOD THINGS ABOUT IT:
4-0 out of 5 stars Should have been Jurassic Park II
This is the sort of sequel that should have been made in the first place. The premise is sillier than the first film (which was pretty silly itself), but the characters are appealing and the action is streamlined and intense. 5-0 out of 5 stars The best of the bunch, a classic movie with heart and soul
The pinacle of the slowly careening Star Wars empire.A movie
5-0 out of 5 stars Do or do not. There is no try.
And this movie did..it's the best Star Wars movie ever!Simple as that.It starts off where Episode IV left off, when Darth Vader is trying to find the Rebels.. I won't give away any more of it in case there are actually people who haven't seen it (you poor deprived people), but it gets better and better. It's the most exciting of all of them, and I remember being very surprised at the end, when a huge secret is uncovered. All in all, better lightsaber fight, better dialogue, and a better story then the original Star Wars, and way more exciting and emotional...you actually get to realize that these characters are not stereotypes, however much they may seem like it in the first movie. It brings you in depth personality traits of each character, even the evil Darth Vader, one of the first villians to have an actual personality. It also introduces you to several new characters (Yoda!!), who are just as interesting as the originals, and it lets you know that there are politics behind the evil Galactic Empire, with the first introduction to the dreaded Emperor himself.

2-0 out of 5 stars Big Whoop.
Wow, an outerspace shootemup with guys in rubber masks, cartoons, and puppets. And space battles with little plastic space ships.Lazor gunz, humming fire swords, evil robot king, riding claymation kangaroos through a snowstorm.Oh, and a romance plot that's pure velveeta.Plus a guy makes out with his sister.Fascinating film you have here. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Just a bit too much
Barry Longyear's story is perfect. This movie could have been but what was that bull at the end with the whips and factory slaves and that stuff? They should have ended the movie as the story ended and not added that last bit. That totally ruined the movie for me. The novella and its sequel at least give humanity the benefit of a doubt; the war is over and there is an uneasy peace and humanity, if love doesn't prevail, at least strives to be better. In the movie, they made humans brutal savages in the way they treated the Dracs. Did we learn NOTHING from the USA's foray into slavery and brutality? IT seemed that a violent ending was gratuitously grafted onto the movie to make it more palatable to the 13-18 year old testosterone crown, thereby destroying what could have been as perfect a film as the novella was perfect. But, when has Hollywood ever gotten it right? They usually find some way to shoot themselves in the foot.

1-0 out of 5 stars This has been done much better before.
Let's be frank. This is just one more take on "can't we all just get along" idea. How transparent.Dress up the black guy in a silly rubber suit and pretend he's an ALIEN.Make friends by involving him in SPORTS!There aren't many films that make me curse out loud, but this is one of them.Treacly and brain-dead beyond endurance. The only thing that might have saved it would have been a spirited rendition by poor Gossett of "It Isn't Easy Being Green".One of the other reviewers mentioned Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mifune in HELL IN THE PACIFIC.That film, essentially the same thing, is immeasurably better.Skip this exploitive garbage.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST STAR WARS MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This movie is a great conclusion to a great saga. I have seen all of the Star Wars movies, from the Phantom Menace to Attack Of The Clones to Revenge Of The Sith to A New Hope to The Empire Strikes Back, and now this golden piece of treasure, which is my favorite Star Wars movie ever. The fight scenes are just great, there are a lot more cool new and old characters, Darth Vader is better than ever, I love the funny quotes and interesting moments, and the ending is both sweet and happy. The others were great, but this is the very best. Do not wait another moment. See this movie. It is well worth any money you spend on it. Period. End of discussion. Done.

3-0 out of 5 stars May I Present Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight?
Return Of The Jedi is my least favorite entry in the original Star Wars Trilogy. It is hard to say why I don't like it. The original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back are very hard to top. They are considered too be two of the best films ever made. Return Of The Jedi just seems to be uneven. It's not bad. It's just not as good as the previous installments. The story is written well the beginning and end are fairly strong. The film seemed much lighter than the others. It is good to end on a happy note, but Han Solo's character was totally opposite from the first time we saw him to the end of the film. I also didn't like the whole Ewok storyline. At first they were cute and then they seemed ridiculous. The direction is great. The special effects are fantastic . The acting was decent. Mark Hamill is the only one who has given a constantly solid performance through all three films. I think alot of the cast looked tired and possibly edging on bored. The soundtrack is awesome as usual. Return Of The Jedi just doesn't reach the greatness of the previous two. It feels uneven, the Ewoks are annoying, and the cast members don't look like they are into it. Still, it is a Star Wars film and has greatness no matter what.

1-0 out of 5 stars How can people like this?
As to be honest, i didnt watch the movie to the end. After the girl (whatever her name is) choked jabba the hutt I turned of the television. It left me thinking: what do all these fans see in this mess?

It is a great movie with awesome special effects. It is by far one of the best movie ever made with one of the best actors ever.Arnold Schwarzenegger brings out not only the role of a Terminator, but of a warmhearted cyborg who will die to protect a human that would in the future, destroy him. ...
