5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great movie and should be on dvd
I agree with the other reviewers this is a great movie and deserves to be on dvd, it has a good story, good music,GREAT dancing from Liza, great cast I just love Julie Walters in this movie, it is a feel good movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Dance Films Ever
Viewing Stepping Out with my daughter, who is a dancer, has become a wonderful and regular pastime in our house. Liza Minelli is phenomenal in this film whether singing, acting, or dancing. Even though the film is Liza's vehicle, the superb cast of dancing actors holds its own against her talent. Each character reminds us of someone we know. Each character becomes a beloved friend as the plot develops. I'm going to write to Paramount and ask that it be made into a DVD. This lovely film deserves to be preserved for my daughter's daughters! Engaging, funny, dramatic, and full of music, this film is a must-see for fans of all musical theater

5-0 out of 5 stars WISH THEY WOULD RELEASE "STEPPING OUT" ON DVD - IT'S A GREAT MOVIE!
"Stepping Out" is a very entertaining movie. I wish they would release this movie on DVD. I have watched my VHS of "Stepping Out" so much that I have just about warn it out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Once Upon a Time.
Even though most high schools in the country have very little resemblance to the high school in TEACHERS, there is a savage inequality that exists in how our schools in the United States are funded. This realization didn't take place until the early 1980s and TEACHERS was made and released just as the debate over unequal education was starting to rage.
4-0 out of 5 stars Where is the DVD?!?!?!?!?!?!
They do not even show this movie on cable...I have been waiting patiently for this to come out. Especially since I and pretty my whole graduation class (Franklin Heights High School) is in this movie. The movie was filmed at the old Central High School in Columbus, Ohio. A casting call went out to all seniors, 17 years and older in the early fall of 1983. We went there four hours a day, three days a week, for about six weeks, it was awesome.
4-0 out of 5 stars It's closer to being a good film than a bad one . . .
Most of the other comments, pro and con, have their points.I agree with many of them, pro and con; it's a matter of degree in most cases. And that in turn is a matter of taste or opinion; "beauty in the eye of the beholder" and so on.

Editorial Review

John Waters's goofy, 1990 comedy about a Baltimore girl (Amy Locane) who can't decide if she should remain "good" in her 1954 world or hang out with the motorcycle boys is funny in a scene-by-scene way, but doesn't quite gel into the grand piece the director was hoping for. The cast is exceptionally likable, however, including Johnny Depp as an Elvis type and Iggy Pop as a chattering loony. The best material is set in a fringe world of bikers and losers on the outskirts of town, and Waters writes some hilarious sardonic dialogue for the characters. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Set In the 50s Since Grease!
"Cry Baby" is the coolest movie since Grease that deals with this time period. The songs are good and the actors in the film are really excellent. I'm a fan of Johnny Depp, and he came through in this movie and him in a lead role set in the 50s worked! This movie is not only a movie that takes place in the 50s, but it feels like a movie that was made in that decade as well. Everything that was big in the movies during that time are seen and used in here. I really enjoyed how this film also dealt with issues people had then and the way people acted and thought.
4-0 out of 5 stars Campy...cute
Sort of like Grease/Outsiders gone crazy.Good movie and performances.I had no idea Johnny Depp could sing.I enjoyed the "jail house rock" spoof, and the music is great. Not a GREAT movie though, couldn't touch Grease or American Graffiti. But it IS worth watching.

4-0 out of 5 stars Waters Gets Wet With Cry Baby
John Waters who likes to be called the "Pope of Trash" has done a lot of films that are outrageous in style such as "Cecil B. Demented," "Pecker," & "Hairspray." "Cry Baby" is a 1990 musical that is utterly silly and frothy, but works nevertheless. Johnny Depp, now a big box office draw and critical success with Oscar nominations for "Finding Neverland" & "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," can be proud of the rockabilly Elvis-type singer he plays named Wade "Cry Baby" Walker. Depp performs his "Jailhouse Rock" type number with great energy and rebellion. Having him run through sewage pipes in his underwear is enough to set many a teenage girl's hearts aflutter. The female lead is Allison played by Amy Locane who worked in other films like "Airhead," "The Mummy" & "Bongwater." She does a good Olivia Newton John-like "Grease" character of the square girl who has a crush on Depp's bad boy. Stephen E. Miller who was recently seen in "RV" with Robin Williams and previously in "The Accused" with Jody Foster does a good job as the square boyfriend Baldwin who loses his girl to Cry Baby.

5-0 out of 5 stars DVD please!
It would be a tribute to the late Chris Penn to release this classic film on DVD. If not...it's casual.

4-0 out of 5 stars NOT a sequel to Fast Times, but still an excellent slice of 80's.
In high school, I watched this movie every time it was on and it is still entertaining 22 years later. People assume this is a "sequel" To Fast Times At Ridgemont High. It was written by Cameron Crowe (who wrote Fast Times) and stars Chris Penn (Sean's brother). It was directed by Art Linson (who produced Fast Times) but it IS its own film. I like to think of it as a companion movie to Fast Times. What happens immediately AFTER high school? The Wild Life tackles that question and does a great job at it. The character of Jim (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) was me in high school. I was 15 when the Wild Life came out, so Jim was the character that I could relate to the most. I lived with my single mom and sister. I was obsessed with Vietnam (and WW2). I also wore camouflage pants to school about 3 days a week, hated authority figures and hung out in a bowling alley (as well as the mall arcade). The other characters are also interesting as well, but Jim was just the one that "clicked" with me. I assume Cameron Crowe based these people on real life versions just like he did with his Fast Times script and chances are, you will relate to someone in this film. I have always liked Eric Stoltz and in this he plays the straight guy to Chris Penn's obnoxious character. They work well together, but it's a friendship of necessity not choice. This is a much more serious film than Fast Times but still has some great, funny moments. Cool soundtrack with ORIGINAL songs by Bananarama and Eddie Van Halen. Release a dvd Universal. Don't underestimate the fan base for this film! A whole generation watched The Wild Life on cable over and over again. Release this movie ASAP as my VHS tape is getting haggard.

Editorial Review

Molly Ringwald established herself as the teen queen of the '80s in this fresh comedy. The movie is a day in the life of Samantha, whose 16th birthday is turning out to be anything but sweet. All the traumas of teendom come down on one long day, which sees Samantha surrounded by dithery relatives, mooning over a high school hunk, and pursued by a sawed-off Lothario. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ageless
I don't expect anything more of a movie than to enjoy it and be entertained. I don't seek to psychoanalyze or offer up in-depth critique, it's only a movie. I either enjoy it or I don't. I laugh as hard at this in my 40s as I did in my 20s, it's just a hysterically funny flick!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply an enjoyable show
This isn't the type of movie that will make you reflect and question your life's ambitions, it's designed to make you laugh. I think it succeeds admirably. Molly Ringwald is perfect as the budding teenager ready to have life meet her full-force. She is surrounded by a quirky, forgetful family (complete with a jerk for a younger brother), nerdy boys desperate for her attention, good friends with whom she can be herself, and (naturally) a love interest. Anthony Michael Hall's character is as funny a dorky kid as I've ever seen...his dance moves are legendary! He has several monologues that still bring out genuine laughs from me, even after all these years of watching this classic.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Movie From the 80s
Molly Ringwald stars in this classic movie about coming of age and high school crushes.Ringwald stars as Samantha. Her sixteenth birthday just happens to be the day before her sister's wedding.Unfortunately for Sam, everyone has forgotten about her birthday due to the stress of the upcoming wedding.Sam's house is overflowing with relatives who have come in from out of town to attend the wedding. Both sets of grandparents have arrived, and Sam has been kicked out of her room. One set of grandparents have brought along a Chinese foreign exchange student whom they have been sponsoring. His name is Long Duc Dong (Gedde Watanabe). Sam's grandmother seems to think it would be a good idea for Long to accompany Sam to her school dance, so off they go.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun Flick
Just watched it last night for the first time in years and it's aged very well.Fun movie with lots of laughs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome 80's gem!
I love Can't Buy Me Love! This was one DVD I had to own, simply because I'd worn out our old VHS of it years and years ago. Years before "McDreamy," Patrick Dempsey plays Ronald, who like most guys in town, has a thing for Cindy Mancini, the captain of the cheerleaders the prettiest girl in Tucson. The nerdy Ronald is constantly picked on and is tired of being considered a nerd. Wanting his senior year to be more than "cards with the tards" as his brother Chucky calls it (played wonderfully by Seth Green when he was just a kid), Ronald finds himself in a position to help Cindy out of a predicament. She needs money to replace a suede outfit she borrowed from her mother and ruined, and he needs to be popular. Cindy doesn't think Ronald's plan will work, but she has little choice. She agrees to pretend to be his girlfriend for one month, but not even Ronald expects his plan to go over with such initial success. But soon, things unravel as they tend to do, and Ronald and Cindy both learn a lot from their mistakes. It's a great 80's movie with a wonderful message about being yourself entwined in it. If you grew up in the 80's and you missed Can't Buy Me Love, for shame! Go get it now. It rocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars like an old friend
one of my favorite movies of all time and definately the best teen movie of the 80s.i am on bedrest for my pregnancy and this dvd (along with the veronica mars dvd and a book i just finished reading, both of which i just reviewed on amazon) has helped make the last few weeks bearable.really brings back what it was like to be a teen in the late 80s and i can personally tell you that it stands up to repeated watching over and over again.i must have watched this movie five times over the last few weeks and it never gets old.

2-0 out of 5 stars Zapped into an 80's teen flick
" Zapped " has received a steady amount of negative reviews. But this, 1982, Scott Baio vehicle , was never intended to be taken seriously. Directed by 80's teen movie director , Bob Rosenthal , " Zapped " , tells the story of a young teenager, named Barney, who gains telekenetic abilitites , after a high school laboratory accident. Barney and his best friend , played by Willie Aames , proceed to take advantage of this newly discovered ability by gaining control over bullies , gambling , and gorgeous girls. With a plot like that , would you expect " Terms of Endearment " ? No , certainly not. Whereas , tons of films came out in the same vein like 1983's " Spring Break " and 1982's " Fast Times at Ridgemont High ", " Zapped " exemplifies the 80's era of teen movies with it's brazen silliness and carefree plots. If you can view the film for what it is , you'll find it, somewhat, brainlessly entertaining. And even if you don't , the supporting cast like Scatman Crothers , Heather Thomas , Mews Small ,Robert Mandan , and Felice Schacter, help suspend your belief, for the film's, 98 minutes. The film contains some adult language , brief nudity and drug references , but could easily receive a PG-13 rating , by today's standards. However , I don't recommend the film be viewed by kids under 17.

4-0 out of 5 stars Zapped hits the spot.
I remember the first time I saw this movie. It was instantly likable.I'm not a big fan of Scott Baio, but the movie itself intrigued me.And I'm not talking about the clothes ripping off scene everyone else seems to obsess over. The idea of telekinesis being possible through some magic potion.I've always been one to "want to impossible" ...
1-0 out of 5 stars Dumb!
I actually saw this in the movie theater and enjoyed it and wondered why the critics panned it!

Editorial Review

This is one of those movies that works for all the wrong reasons--disgusting, lowbrow, base humor that we are all far too sophisticated to find amusing. So, just don't tell anyone you still think it's a riot to watch John Belushi as the brutish Bluto slurp Jell-O or terrorize his less-aggressive fellow students. This crude parody of college life in the '60s spawned many imitations, but none could match the fresh-faced talent or bad taste of this huge box office success. (Remember all those toga parties in the '80s?) The first of the National Lampoon movies, this was originally released as Read more

"Animal House" raised the bar, and set a standard for all comedies that followed. Many have tried to duplicate the originality of this movie, and all have failed to come close.
3-0 out of 5 stars ACCEPTED At Last! A Desire to Better Themselves.
This is a modern-day remake of the old John Belushi movie about college, only without the pranks.Justin was much better on the eyes than fat John.My Justin would have fit right in with this group with the skateboarding antics and splashing in the pool.Kaleena and Chrissy are as beautiful as the California girls and will be exceptional some day, Kaleen with her ballet training in Cincinnati and Chris with her dynamic bubbling personality. Both have blue eyes and natural blonde hair. Look out!

Actress-writer-director Ida Lupino got one of her unfortunately rare opportunities behind a camera making this 1966 family comedy about two mischievous students (Hayley Mills, June Harding) making life difficult for the nuns at a girls' convent school. Rosalind Russell has a fine part as a mother superior vexed by their pranks and outwardly chilly until the girls catch her in a more private moment of emotional release. The script has an anecdotal structure--it's sort of one thing after another with Mills's and Harding's troublemakers--but there is a rising sense that these two kids gradually develop some awareness of the pain and sacrifices of others. A fun and touching movie all around, with a nice twist at the end. Read more

Whoopi Goldberg returns in a gratuitous, poorly written sequel that contrives a reason to get her character back into Maggie Smith's convent. The "socially conscious" plot finds Goldberg being asked to relate to a bunch of street kids and pull them together into a choir. Since a bad guy is needed, the script grabs that old chestnut about a rich guy (James Coburn) preparing to close down the convent's school, and runs with it. The film is slow and unconvincing from start to finish, although costars Mary Wickes and Kathy Najimy get some good laughs, and the music is pretty spirited. Read more

I love whoopi goldberg, and I love this movie. wholesome (besides the shooting, etc)AND funny..I also bought the first one because I love it so much too

5-0 out of 5 stars Watch it all the time!
There is a reason they show this one more than the first one on TV; it's better! I'm a bit biased because I enjoy basically anything that involves choir, music, music schools, or musci competitions but this one I never ever get tired or watching. Ever. I've seen it a billion times and I still watch it anytime it comes on Tv which is often. A definite buy even if you haven't seen the first one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great 80's comedy
Comming of age in the 80's is getting made fun of lately, but I thought it was a good time to grow up with the exception of the advent of AIDS. People were dieing so fast and I lost teachers to that.It was not like today. This movie is really good and in the 1980's style. It is a great comedy. If you like the 80's and want to understand some of the refrences in the media where they keep saying Bueller repeated times see this movie. You will also get to see where the guy who does the clear eyes comercials go his start in this movie.Anyway perhaps you just might like the 80's if you do not already if you watch some of these good comming of age movies and listen to our music.

Bueller, Ferris Bueller
5-0 out of 5 stars Oh, the things this kid does...
Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is a kind of hero to every high-school aged young adult out there. He's the kind of guy whom we all want to be, really. He acts like he doesn't have a care in the world, and lives life to fullest. The opposite of this guy would be his best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck), a sort of uptight worrywart who deserves to be brought out of his shell by the easygoing Ferris. In this film, Ferris fakes out his parents into calling it another "sick" day for him, his ninth to be exact. In order to convince just about everyone that he is really sick, he consults his collection of electronic sound effect equipment for the process. Another antithesis of Ferris is his life-is-not-fair sister Jeannie(Jennifer Grey) who suspects something is up, as does the sly-but-not-so-slick Dean of Students, Ed Rooney (Jeffrey Jones).

5-0 out of 5 stars Defining a generation?
`Clueless' is probably the equivalent of `The Breakfast Club' for the 90's generation.I went to school with these kids; sadly...I was one of these kids.`Clueless' is also one of the smartest comedies to come out in the 90's for it capitalized on everything that made teenagers of that era funny and stupid. The 90's was a much easier time. Now we have films like `thirteen' (probably the best film to come out in 2003) to describe life as a teenager...life today is just so much darker than I remember it growing up.
5-0 out of 5 stars Step In To Delight
Clueless is a thoroughly delightful film, this edition improves on it with excellent bonus features - all are good, but Fashion 101 is not to be missed.
5-0 out of 5 stars best teen movie of the 90's
I love Clueless. It's an amazing movie based on spoiled rich kids. The main character is Cher( silverstone), who likes to help out others in the school and likes to get her way. Dion is the funniest character of them all. I like her sense of humor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not a Pan-and-Scan
Previous reviewers are incorrect in their assertions that this DVD is a "pan and scan" version. "Where Angels Go..." was shot in the 1.85:1 format popular then and now, in which the entire 1.33:1 aspect ratio 35mm film frame was exposed during production. During theatrical exhibition, the top and bottom of the frame are "matted" in the projector to create the 1.85:1 screen aspect ratio. So, on this DVD, you are seeing MORE of the frame than was shown in theaters (the entire 1.33:1 frame). There was no panning and scanning involved in this transfer. TCM has shown the picture "matted" to re-create the aspect ratio as seen in theaters. It is simply incorrect to assume that a "full frame" version of any film on DVD has been "panned and scanned" without knowing the original production format or the theatrical exhibition format.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still great after four decades plus
This is such a heartwarming, funny, entertaining film, but it really does help if you are 1. A female 2. A Catholic 3. A graduate of Catholic school 4. A generally upbeat person who is not burdened with Catholic guilt or hatred for the Church.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Trouble With Sequels!
Well, this is most definitely not the Haley Mills original, but it has a special quality of its own. There really are some cute moments, and Where Angels Go...Trouble Follows is worth your time if you are a fan of Catholic school comedies. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I finally found this movie!YES!!! I LOVE IT!!!
This was the cult classic of the 80's.In high school we used to rent this one for every single video party.Everyone loved seeing it over and over. For the life of me I could remember the name of it....finally I stumbled onto it.I'm so glad!I can't wait to show it to my kids and everyone else who has looked at me like I was crazy when I try to tell them about it.I love the "notice" statements and the gum on the steps. Those are probably my favorite parts.Great Movie!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars cant stop thinking about this
I have been waiting, and waiting for this to come out on DVD.What joy to watch this back in the 80's almost every single night it played, [along side Pandemonium], i couldn't get enough. Its funny, because nobody knows what I'm talkin about when I mention it. I tell them thatthis was the original Scream.I guess there is only a handfull of people who hold the memory.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!!! I found the title of this movie! Please release this!
I am so excited right now! This movie was so funny!I have been asking friends and co-workers about a horror movie/comedy that has been on my mind for so many years. I'd explain the parts that I could remember, like people being killed with horsehead bookends and a paper clip and the janitor that peed red. I knew I saw it in the eighties, but no one knew what I was talking about. After searching this site and viewing almost all of the slasher movies available, I have finally found the movie I watched so long ago and imagine how let down I felt when I couldn't even buy it on DVD :( I hope this is released soon. Just recently I have been collecting all the older horror movies I grew up watching. This is one of the funnier ones I hope to add to my collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Thumbs Up
This's one OF Patrick Dempsey's greatest 80's movies,I have it on LASERDISC with CAN'T BUY ME LOVE,IN THE MOOD,LOVERBOY,But I'd like to have it on DVD too...Will this Movie be released on DVD? IF you like The 80s Movies,This one will rock yer brain :P

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Underated
I know this is hard to believe, but this is one of my top ten video's of all time.As a theatre major I can really relate to the 'I can be loved by you' acting excercise that becomes a recurring theme. While the 'girl with boys name who acidentally winds up in the boys dorm' genre is usually pretty fluffy, in this case it works, going beyond laughs to a more serious and vulnerable (yet still fun) place. For the record, other movies that have affected me as deeply include 'Glory', 'The Muppet Movie', 'Monster High', 'Final Destination (1 & 2)', 'Schoolhouse Rock', 'The Specials', 'Mulan', and 'Not another Teen Movie'.Fairly eclectic I know, but I really encouarge you to give it a try, especially if you were involved in Drama or Writing in High School or University.

4-0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GREAT ONE FOR A RAINY DAY!
DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT I SEEM TO ENJOY PATRICK DEMPSEY'S 80'S FILMS A LOT. THIS VIDEO IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES. JUST AS "CAN'T BUY ME LOVE" THIS ONE IS CHESSY AND PREDICTABLE, AND I THINK THAT IS THE MAGIC ABOUT IT,THAT'S PROBABLY THE REASON WHY EVERYONE WHO HAS SEEN THIS FILM SEEMS TOENJOY IT. A GREAT ONE FOR A BAD DAY... IT WORKS FOR ME JUST LIKE STRAUSS'MUSIC DOES "UPLIFTS ME UP, DRAWS A SMILE ON MY FACE AND MAKES ME WANNADANCE"AND AGAIN, JUST LIKE STRAUSS' MUSIC: ITS BEAUTY LIES IN ITSSIMPLICITY. NOT TO MENTION THAT HELEN SLATER LOOKS SPECIALLY LOVELY ON THISFILM.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "How do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways."
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. "Ten Things I Hate About You" is VERY LOOSELY based on William Shakespeare's comedic masterpiece, "The Taming of the Shrew." The film is set in a modern day high school. Kat (Julia Stiles) is an angry teenage girl who seems to loathe all men. Her younger sister Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) is a popular girl who can't wait to immerse herself in the dating scene. Unfortunately for Bianca, her overprotective father (Larry Miller) is incredibly paranoid and doesn't want to see either of his daughters come within 50 feet of a member of the opposite sex. In order to pacify Bianca's constant complaints, her father finally concedes that he'll lift the dating ban as soon as man-hater Kat shoes an interest in boys, which is unlikely to happen in the near future. Once Bianca's potential beau (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) finds out about this, he hires a mysterious classmate, Patrick (Heath Ledger), to feign an interest in Kat and loosen her up, thereby freeing up Bianca to date. At first Patrick is happy to oblige, but he is stunned when he begins to develop feelings for Kat, who isn't always as cold and c
