5-0 out of 5 stars I bought a DVD player because of this release...
I am really sorry that this version of Yellow Submarine has gone out of print. When it came out in 1999, I had not yet purchased a DVD player, but I did immediately buy the VHS version. It was so wonderful, SO wonderful, and I read so many great reviews about the DVD, that I went out and bought the DVD, before I had a DVD player. Then not only did I buy a DVD player but also a new Kenwood receiver so I could get all the benefits of the surround sound. That's how crazy I was.The really crazy thing is, it was worth every penny.Plus it spoiled me.I expected every DVD release to show the same care and quality that Yellow Submarine did.The care that they lavished upon all aspects of this release, the video quality, the INCREDIBLE AUDIO QUALITY and the wonderful extras, are amplified by the horrible job that Miramax did on A Hard Day's Night. It's a shame that Apple could not was not able to get control of that. What a disgrace Miramax made of a classic.Makes me wonder what is happening with HELP!, Magical Mystery Tour and Let It Be.I pray daily that Miramax isn't able to get their grubby little hands on anymore Beatle product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Once upon a time... far-far away... behind the iron curtain...,
...there lived a girl in a big city. She loved to read, watch the movies and listen to the music. Her favorite group for many years had been the Fab Four from Liverpool, "The Beatles". Her wish was to collect one day all their Albums on LPs (yes, guys, it was that long ago). She had a dream to see her idols on the concert or in the movies but it was impossible. Their movies were not shown behind the iron curtain; as for the concert, they would love to come to her country but were not allowed. Then, one day, her mom told her that in the cinema close to their house, the retrospective of the British Animated Movies would be shown and she mentioned one of the titles, "Yellow Submarine". The girl could not believe her ears. Could that be true? Did the yellow submarine traveled many seas and made it to her city? Ringo, John, George, and Paul did not stuck in the sea of time; they emerged from a "Vacuum Flask to Nowhere and with the little help of a "Nowhere Man", Jeremy, they walked through the sea of holes "that stopped their minds from wondering"... The girl had to find out if it was true.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting to note...
It's symptomatic of middle-age, I suppose, to reflect warmly on "the good old days", and even though I never wanted to fall into that syndrome, seeing "Help" has done exactly that for me. I was a Freshman in college when the movie was released, and so it was a movie for the millions of Boomers like me, in that bizarre, wonderful time that was the mid-1960's in America.
    5-0 out of 5 stars YAY!! :D
This was the best movie that the beatles did it was funny and had a bit more of a plot this time. 'in the weeks that followed five more attemts were made to steal the ring.' Quite frankly my favorite attemt was number four he,he. But in 'another girl' we can only wish that Paul would wear that tshirt more often. and my stepsister finally realized that there are more rasons to like the beatles than their music. That is before John turned into mountain man\amish terrorist anyway.
4-0 out of 5 stars Please restore "Help!" for DVD
Though not the landmark that "A Hard Day's Night" was, this film is still a lot of fun, and for current and future generations shows how the Beatles looked and behaved in 1965, in full color (in fact, the color cinematography is striking throughout--should have been nominated for an Oscar).

5-0 out of 5 stars mad season...
Just because you don't buy VHS anymore and don't own a VCR doesn't mean no one else does either. Mad Season is an incredibly underrated band, true talent ignored by those with the power to promote the band and build its fanbase because in today's world true talent does not amount to much to most people if there is no money to be made off of it. If you want to know why this hasn't been released on DVD yet, you might want to ask the head of Sony/Columbia why money is king and why they so heavily promote other crap that no one with any taste is interested in for the purpose of making money and getting rich, rather than doing their jobs and focusing on the real talent of the music industry. You might want to ask them why they have become such a gigantic rubber stamp of approval for people such as any talentless jackass who decides to go sing on american idol and goes on to sell tens of millions of records for no good reason. Ask them they promote some of the worst music ever recorded and completely ignore the little bit of talent that still remains on their label. Then and only then will you know why talented bands such as Mad Season have been ignored and placed on the back burner for so long.

    Editorial Review

The three-day Woodstock music festival in 1969 was the pivotal event of the 1960s peace movement, and this landmark concert film is the definitive record of that milestone of rock & roll history. It's more than a chronicle of the hippie movement, however; this is a film of genuine historical and social importance, capturing the spirit of America in transition, when the Vietnam War was at its peak and antiwar protest was fully expressed through the liberating music of the time. With a brilliant crew at his disposal (including a young editor named Martin Scorsese), director Michael Wadleigh worked with over 300 hours of footage to create his original 225-minute director's cut, which was cut by 40 minutes for the film's release in 1970. Eight previously edited segments were restored in 1994, and the original director's cut of Woodstock is now the version most commonly available on videotape and DVD. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest concert film ever
The Summer of 1969 seems a thousand years ago.I was eighteen years old, had just graduated from high school, was on vacation in Hawaii with my family, and terrified of the draft because the Vietnam War was at its height.

    Excellent - arrived on time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff
When reviews of music DVD's are all over the board regarding sound quality only one fair conclusion is possible: The problem is the end user, not the product. I was stunned by how good this DVD sounded. Consider the conditions under which Woodstock was recorded and the quality and calibration of your home system before jumping to negative conclusions about this "transfer". That the VHS version sounds better than the Dolby 5.1 mix on DVD is simply not possible. You can quibble about several aspects of this movie but sound quality should not be one of them. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I love this concert
It's all of the good things that others have said but the one thing that struck me most while watching it (shortly after 9/11) was the irony at the end of the song "We Shall Be Free", when a huge banner with the word "Freedom" was unrolled between the 2 World Trade buildings. It still gives me chills.

5-0 out of 5 stars Have you ever seen a grown man cry?
In Central Park, as in all his concerts, Garth Brooks proves himself to be just as fragile as he is strong with the rare talent of being able to let the music possess and take over his anima while connecting with the audience at once. As always, he willingly lends center stage to his guests including Don McLean,Billy Joel, and even his fiddle player Jimmy Mattingly. As an audience member watching from my TV screen, I sure felt like I was there live watching from the front row with eyes in total awe because of Brooks' engaging and energetic demeanor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now THIS is a Beatles documentary!!
I LOVE this documentary! It was one of the first that I ever watched about The Beatles and it remains a treasure of my small VHS/DVD collection.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best documentary at its time.
My mom introduced me to the Beatles at a ripe age of four, she was a big time Beatles fan, but I'm a bigger one, too bad I wasn't around in the 60's, I missed out on some good happenings. Anyways, we rented this video back in 1984 when it first came out, and I was hooked. Even before that, I loved the Beatles, and use to plug in the headphones and listen to their old records my mom had and this just added to my taste. You see my mom didn't have all their albums, but I ended up getting them all on vinyl before they discontinued them back in the mid 80's (the capitol albums). Anyways, what I'm getting at here, if you like the Beatles, and you don't know much about them, this will discribe it pretty good, considering it's narrarated, and it's before Anthology, and it's 1984, so they did a good recap on their lives without them really telling it themselves. It's got interesting things on their childhood, into getting interested in rock and roll, since it was born when they were teenagers, to the skiffle band John Lennon formed in 1956 called the Quarrymen, to their time in Hamburg with Stu and Pete, to kicking out Pete and getting Ringo. It's all here, from rags to riches, to fame and fortune, to calm to madness. People will remember the Beatles even hundreds years from now, and I'm not the only one who believes that. But anyways, young and old, prescious and delicate, if you like the Beatles, this should be in your collection, along with its big brother which came out about a decade later Anthology.

    3-0 out of 5 stars I Can't Believe This Isn't on DVD
Back in the middle 1980s, if you were a Beatles fan this was one of your few choices in full-length home video. The misleadingly titled 'Compleat Beatles' was one of the first direct-to-video rockumentaries to later be broadcast on PBS and cable TV, and it was accompanied by a two-volume set of books containing sheet music. (The books were available separately.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent example of a REAL live performance
SIGN O' THE TIMES was an excellent "concert movie"... but, as we all know, alot of it was re-shot and re-filmed with prince lip synching. THIS, however, was NOT a lip synched concert (to the idiot who said otherwise) ... as for guitar not plugged in?You can tell whoever wrote that review knows little about live performances... (...) ... it's called a wireless system... it's been around for YEARS and yes, Prince was one of the first to use it extensively.
    4-0 out of 5 stars On DVD ? A Shame It Won't Be....Ever
Live at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, Prince Rogers Nelson delivers an electrifying live mix of R&B, Soul, Blues, and Rock with a somewhat electronic treatment from the rhythm section known as The Revolution. Generously borrowing from some of his heroes including James Brown, The Kid makes the most of every inch of floor space for a great 90-minute set that offers extended jam versions of some of his earlier radio hits like '1999' and 'Delirious'. While some sections of the show move too slowly or are redundant, overall the vision of the genius is apparent. 'The Beautiful Ones' is poignant and sensual. 'Baby I'm a Star' culminates into a conga line of sorts, as everybody gets into the act onstage, including Sheila E. (his opening act at the time.) But the jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring 20-minute encore of 'Purple Rain' is the true gem of this concert, and it is only fitting he saved the best for last. A religious experience, to say the least: only once in a generation can a musical legend captivate and mesmerize an audience with one song.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some technical data about this film
There is a very good reason for this film not living up to That the Way It Is.I am sure if you have seen this movie you have noticed that it is much more grainey and not as bright as TTWIS or other movies for that matter. This contributes a lot to the picture not being as well received. The fact of the matter is that MGM in it's infinite wisdom chose to shoot the movie in 16 mm not 35 mm as most all movies. This is a little known fact. But all you have to do is watch for many of the stage segments and you can see the photographers crawling around the various stages with a relatively small camera in hand. They may have done this for maneuverability sake but with significant loss in quality.16 mm is a long way from 35 mm in all measuring points. This may also be why they have not put it out on DVD as yet.The movie is very grainy and this adds a subconscious negativity to the movie.I was present at many of the concerts that were filmed for this movie. The live shows were not grainy at all and they were very sharp and well lit and came across much better than the film.
5-0 out of 5 stars This video rocks, entertains . . . and saddens
To start, I won't labor through listing all of the music on the concert video.Reviewer Alejandra Vernon did that nicely in her excellent Spotlight Review.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most amazing thing I have ever seen!.
I visited the official NIN website a while back and it seems like Trent Reznor himself said that he was going to rerelease this tape on dvd with a few more extras and videos but I doubt that its going to happen what with Trent taking forever to release something, anyway Closure is a fantastic tape that takes a look at some concert footage during the self destruct tour 1994-1997 on the first tape, the footage was captuered on hand held cameras so don't expect it to have excellent quality I just thought it was fairly good. The second tape though is deffinetely worth it, it has all the music video from NIN up untill the perfect drug which is the most amazing video ever and also contians the happiness in slavery video which has some very graphic violence and gore you have been warned its not for the easily offended or those who have a weak stomach. Overall I highly recomend this tape to all NIN fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars I liked this
I liked the music video tape more than the convert footage, but I enjoyed both of them still. The Music videos I was impressed by the cinimatography of the music videos in general. Be warned though, there is some real graphic stuff on this tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pink Floyd's finest concert video
After watching this "Momentary Lapse of Reason" concert, I promptly bought the video when it became available. The same shivers ran down my spine as I watched it. Songs including "Learning to fly", "Run like Hell", "Sorrow", "Great Gig in the Sky" blow me away on this video. I have watched every Pink Floyd DVD available and am in disbelief at how none of them even compare to my VHS copy of "The Delicate Sound of Thunder". This is the Best Pink Floyd video... I'm not sure why it hasn't been released on DVD yet, but I hope and pray that it will be someday soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Scrapbook...needs to be on DVD with more footage!
This is a great document of Nirvana during their rise to fame and the peak of their live shows and TV appearances intersperced with some behind the scenes footage. Some of it's funny, some of it's a shadow of things to come, but it is a snapshot of the early 90s (along with The Year Punk Broke).

5-0 out of 5 stars Suitable to warp young minds....
I rented this film in my youth, and after I had watched it, left it downstairs next to the VCR.My younger sister popped it in, and I heard a mouthful from my older brother about how she shouldn't have been watching it, and I shouldn't have been watching it.Well, it's too late, I already did watch it, and my mind is now officially warped, hehehehe...My brother would freak out at other early favorites of mine, like Joe's Garage and Trout Mask Replica, but he was OK.As for this film, I love Ken Russell's work.He was on fire in the 1970's, and it's a shame that he hasn't really made a great film since Altered States. This film really has nothing to do with Franz Liszt (or Richard Wagner), but it's still a marvel to look at and to listen to.Great stuff. Now, how about a DVD?

4-0 out of 5 stars A disgrace Warner persist on VHS.
Indispensable, cult-status Ken Russel movie (not only for fans of The Who), that masterfully captures and subversively portrays on screen classical piano player/composer Frantz Liszt's personality: a legendary genious of a man whose life and times match that of a Rock star, 100 years before Rock was invented. If Glen Gould is the flamboyant 20th century classical piano player that rocked an establishment, just watch this movie to compare the original Master on his heyday.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ken Russell All The Way: Rocky Horror Picture Show Style
Ken Russell was at least providing mainstream audiences with a slice of music history- Franz Liszt, still regarded as the most extraordinary pianist ever born. He was not only prolific, but composed music that is extremely difficult to play- often feeling like the pianist must have more than ten fingers. Yes, during the 19th century, and in his youth, Liszt was a sex icon and had a following which can accurately be compared to that of a modern pop or rock artist. Yes, Franz Liszt had a fallig out with Richard Wagner, and yes Wagner was a big time German nationalist Aryan Supremacist and rotten apple (brilliant composer and love his music though). Russell is famous for suffusing his films with vulgarity, excessive flamboyance and out of this world cinematography. This one is a follow-up to the wildly successful rock opera Tommy and for a film, his most lavish and crazy spectacle a la Rocky Horror Picture Show. I didn't like it one bit but it is campy and will always have a following much like Rocky Horror Picture Show or Barbarella. Like thos movies, which are adult by the way and should never be watched by children- are best viewed late at night. What to watch for: a giant phallic monument which is worshipped in a bizarre ritual, a pipe organ that becomes a spaceship which ultimately saves the earth from a Frankenstein-Hitler monster, lots of musical numbers straight from rock opera/Broadway- Rocky Horror Picture Show type of stuff. Cameos include Ringo Starr as the Pope. It's mostly British humor (irreverant humor) but American audiences would eat it up just as easily.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great film, all things considered.[4.5 stars]
The album of original material to come out of the "Get Back" sessions of early 1969 was, quite frankly, lousy, at least by Beatles standards.John Lennon was right when he said that Let it Be (the album and the film) exposed the "myth" that was the Beatles. The myth wasn't that the Beatles were great but that they were incapable of mediocrity.John's efforts, alone, on the album prove just how mediocre they could be when they gave up trying.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE LAST TRUE TESTAMENT OF THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME, THE BEATLES!
I am the 3rd person to do a review of The Beatles legendary Documentary masterpiece film "LET IT BE". I will be editing this review from time to time so that you the consumers will get an accurate review. I own the original VHS version distributed by Magnetic Video from way back when. I'm now waiting for the DVD version which is also distributed by Magnetic Video to be sent to me by my recent seller which is seacoastdvds throughamazon.com.
5-0 out of 5 stars Priceless
This movie represents The Beatles in the process of their final evolved sound. The film is filled with priceless moments, from the beginning stages of recording the album to the final rooftop show. Throughout the movie, one can almost sense every Beatle has detached and become their own musician, which is evident in the final sound of Let It Be. The footage reveals obvious creative tension in the studio between each member. The most amazing part of this video is after the credits roll and a very fuzzy black and white video shows John and Paul experimenting with feedback on their guitars while Yoko makes various noises - very interesting.

I have been waiting a long time to see this one and it was so worth the wait!!!! I have had the cd & only could imagine the actual concert, last night I sat back and enjoyed seeing come-backs by Joe Cocker, John Sebastian, and the very great Crosby,Stills & Nash. This concert is full of great 90's nostalgia!!!! The bands range From "Cranberries to Green day to Metallica. Sheryl Crow is fantastic !!!! Bob Dylan performs "highway 61"If you love the music of the "90s and are into the woodstock generation this is a must have. This vhs also contains footage of the audience and surrounding activities of the concert. My favorite part is the personal reflections of each artist as they enter the stage. colesmom (seller) definitely hooked me up with a great video!!!! thanx!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Alice In Chains at their best

    5-0 out of 5 stars Wow--AMAZING !!!
WOW !!!! AMAZING !!!Highly, Highly, Highly, HIGHLY Recommended. This is a MUST for AiC fans. This concert played to a SOLD OUT MOORE THEATER IN A SNOW STORM---what does that tell you?lol. This concert is absolutely AMAZING--so strong and full of raw emotion...If anyone needs proof that AiC was one of the BEST bands EVER they need look no further than this performance.God, it makes me so sad to know that AiC is no more - never has a band been so revered or held up so high by their fans as AiC was and STILL IS.Layne's vocals shine bright in this performance and his status as one of the BEST if not THE best vocalists of all time is solidified once you see and hear him perform. This VHS is WORTH EVERY PENNY...There are NO bands that will EVER capture the raw emotion that AiC was capable of and there are NO vocalists that will EVER compare to Layne Staley...these facts are Clearly evident in this performance.
