Editorial Review

Circuit training means alternating between cardiovascular and strength training so that you get the benefits of both while stepping up the intensity of the workout. This 45-minute workout for experienced exercisers includes a half-hour of 10-minute cycles consisting of a minute of cardio step alternating with a minute of strength exercises using either a resistance tube or free weights. Gin Miller, the queen of step--she invented the original aerobic step workout--ably leads you through this tightly organized, superbly cued workout. One class member demonstrates modifications for beginners (although you seldom can see her), while the rest of the class ups the intensity by adding some running, hopping, and leaping moves. The choreography is never very dancy, but it's varied enough not to get boring. You'll enjoy this most if you're an athletic exerciser looking for an interesting, new challenge. Live music enhances the workout. The constantly changing camera angles can be distracting when you're first trying to learn the moves. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Workout
Wow!!!! I just received it today and it's fantastic. It's been years since I've exercised and I really need to get back in shape. I'm 5'9 and BEFORE I had my baby I weighed 125 lbs and could wear anything I wanted. I now weigh 160 lbs (I recently lost 16 lbs) and my baby's 6 years old! I have tried all the fad diets and nothing has worked. I'm finally ready to get back to the basics...less calories and more exercise! With self discipline and the help of Step Reebok Circuit Challenge..I am positive that I'll reach my goal and rediscover my former self.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a good work-out video, beginner or advanced.
I had been working out at a gym for about 1 year and decided to start working out at home.I bought a tape and used it for about a year and needed a new one.I bought Gin Miller's tape and at first was uncomfortable with the camera work. And really, who needs to watch the musicians when you want to watch the foot work of the people you're trying to follow! There are plenty of repeat steps to help you catch on if your a beginner, but they can become boring if you're advanced.I've had to crank it up to keep my interest.4-0 out of 5 stars Go For It!
This is my first Gin Miller video and I must say I was really challenged!I just love her enthusiasm! I haven't worked out in a while and it definitely "pumped me up."It is for all levels (believe me, just starting out again, I'm definitely a beginner), but it challenged me to work up to the intermediate and advanced level.I also recommend you use weights instead of tubing if for no other reason, to keep up.The fast pace makes it a little difficult to alternate between the strength training and cardio without having to pause the tape (and I hate to do that).I nearly killed myself the first time I did it! But if you are looking to build muscle from strength training and burn calories from cardio all in one, this is no doubt the workout for you! ... Read more

"A little cha cha, a little salsa, a little mambo," promises instructor Petra Kolber. If you love dance choreography and you love step workouts, this combination gives you both. Cha cha, Charleston, and pony your way up, down, and over the step for 20 minutes of cardio with attitude. Kolber cues superbly and progresses quickly from slightly complex to very complex, adding segments to a rapidly growing pattern. You need to be an experienced stepper for this workout--the instructor presumes that you know what "over the top," "corner to corner," and other typical step terminology mean. You also need to be a choreography enthusiast--Kolber packs a lot of multistep choreography into half an hour. She is accompanied by a woman and a man who help demonstrate. The artsy, constantly moving cameras and flashing graphics behind the instructor can be distracting when you're first learning the moves. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I was really proud when I mastered this! It's so elegant....
I enjoy anything that Petra does, but I really love this workout. It keeps you thinking and the armwork in particular is so different and interesting. You really feel like you are dancing and your step is a prop.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fast Workout
Pressed for time? This is the work out for you.Petra's choreography is fun -- and the right level of difficulty -- and gives you a great cardio work out.The best option if you only have 30 minutes, and want to squeeze in a work out.Don't hesitate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun workout
I hate complex choreography, I don't have the patience to learn it, but I found this to be very very do able.I enjoy Petra and Casey and Dwayne, too.Once you get to know the routine, it is easy to add propulsion throughout to pick up the intensity if you want to.This tape has been a staple for me for years. ... "Go harder. Feel the resistance. Feel the work against your feet. Pedal through the resistance and make it disappear." This beautifully produced home-cycling video features instructor Robert Sherman leading you through an intense workout on your stationary bicycle. Instead of watching the instructor sweat, you watch Hawaiian scenery go by--quiet countryside, vibrant forest, mountain, breathtaking seascape--as if you were cycling outdoors. Sometimes an inset of the instructor shows proper form without distracting from the scenery. Sherman gives instructions about intensity and technique, varying your workout constantly. He guides you through the visualization of the ride as well as providing cycling technique and motivation. "Ride with confidence. Ride with strength. Stay strong as you prepare to face your first hill. Here we go." Although you don't have to have an official Cycle Reebok or Spinning bike, you'll get the most out of this workout if your bike allows you to increase and decrease resistance without dismounting, and cycle standing up as well as sitting. You'll look forward to getting on your stationary bike with this video. "This is what training is all about--going where you've never been, feeling what you've never felt. Let this beautiful Hawaiian scenery take you to the top." This video is 44 minutes, including a warm-up, 30 minutes of cardio riding, and a cool-down. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars CYCLE REEBOK IS GREAT
Is a great one!! I love Robert Sherman technic, and I wish you get new ones done by him.4-0 out of 5 stars Great Video, just wish there were more like it.
When I decided to bike indoors I bought 4 tapes thinking that I would be able to get a varied workout each day. However, this is the only tape I use.The scenery of Hawaii is beautiful and it is nice to be able to bike indoors while feeling as if you are outdoors. It is also helpful to have the narrator telling you what to do and when to do it.I wish I could find more tapes like this one. This is sort of a beginning tape and now that I have been using it for a few months I am ready for the next step. But all I can find are spinning tapes, which are awful, or other scenery tapes, which don't give you instructions about which gear to be in.I would definitely recommend this tape for anyone who wants to continue biking in the winter.I put my bike on a trainer and it works just great that way so you don't even need to buy an expensive stationary bike.

3-0 out of 5 stars Anything is better than staring at the wall
Although I have never attended a spinning class, I do ride a stationary bike at home. This video is not the best instructional video I have seen, but it does have some great scenery. The instruction is very low key, and the inset pictures of the instructor are helpful especially when the volume is low. While not great, this video does give you a good workout and makes the 30 minutes go by a lot faster than watching the evening news!!I have an inexpensive stationary bike and it works just fine for these excersizes. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun workout!
I like this workout so much I have 2 copies of it. It is a combination of step moves and aerobic dance, I myself would rate it intermediate. I consider myself to be an intermediate exerciser and there are some moves that may take a couple tries to get, but it isn't hard to follow at all. Lots of fun combinations and fun moves, there are ponies, mambos, a fun one that Gin calls "The Caveman", then you have your basic, turn steps, A steps, over the tops etc. I like Gin as an instructor, she seems to be having fun in this workout as do the background exercisers. Not a hard workout, some might even think it is way too easy for them, but I always seem to get a good workout from it. Get yourself a copy if you can find one. I just wish it was on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorites
I just did this workout again this morning and have to say that it is one of my favorites.Gin Miller is motivating and fun to work out with. The video is so interesting; just when I think I'm sick of the step moves, she takes you back down to the floor for more low impact moves, then back up on the step. The choreography is basic, anyone used to step and floor aerobics will have no problem (I've been working out regularly for about seven years). The 50 minutes are up before you know it and if you put energy into the workout, you'll raise your heartrate plenty!LOVE this video!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not As Cool As The Box Advertises, But Still Good
This video is the fourth I've tried from the Reebok series.Like the others, I found this workout easy to follow and I was able to complete all the moves the first time I popped it in my VCR with no problems."Aerostep" is advertised as being "a unique combination of step training and aerobic dance," but the moves are really no different from other step videos I have (basic step, over-the-top, L-step, grapevines, lunges, etc.).Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Three quick upper body workouts designed for all levels
This video consists of three upper body workouts which are designed to be performed either together or separately when you have less time.It is led by Petra Kolber, a competent fitness instructor who provides good form pointers.Petra works out with two assistants, one of whom shows easier modifications and one of whom occasionally displays a more challenging option.Since hand weights are used, this program adapts to any fitness level simply by increasing or decreasing the weights.5-0 out of 5 stars Great arm workout !
This video is a great arm workout. It starts with a 4 min. warm-up and then it has 3 different workouts:Segment 1 - 8 mins.; Segment 2 - 6 mins.; and Segment 3 - 8 mins. Each segment works the shoulders, biceps, triceps and back. So, you can do one or all of them. The instructorexplains each exercise, and there are so many different exercises that youwill not get bored. The instructor uses 1 set of weights during the wholevideo, but I like to use a heavier set for the biceps and back. The videoends with 2 minutes of stretching. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Video
If you really want to get your heart rate up, this video is excellent. I actually had to buy this video again because I wore out my old tape. Not only do you get a great workout, but you are working out to energizing/funky music and with a fantastic instructor. If you are not into those annoying instructors who love to smile and say things like 'you can do it' then this video is for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great workout...after your eyes adjust
This was a great and intense workout. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the tape/recording is very bad.The room is very dark, with strange lights that glow beneath the fellow "exercisers."They will jump to different, strange angles that sometimes make it hard to follow what's going on.The one thing I really loved about the way they taped this is that they had a separate person (not stepping) that told you what to do.So you don't have to rely on the instructor to explain things and try to remember to tell you to switch feet - she's working out just like you are, and gives hand gestures to indicate the moves she's doing next as the person interprets them for you to hear. The only drawback of this is that sometimes the camera focuses on the TV screen that shows the woman talking, instead of the people working out.5-0 out of 5 stars The most INTENSE step workout video ever!
This is the only video that really works me to the extent that I want.Too many workout videos leave me tired and sweaty, but not truly "weak in the legs because I worked so hard" feeling. This video does it for me.If you're looking for a calm workout to just get your heart-rate going, this is not the video for you.But if you're fairly healthy and just need a great workout, by all means BUY THIS VIDEO!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Petra Does it Again!
Petra's shorter Reebok "Dance Step" is a great 30 minute work out.At 50 mins, "Rhythm & Moves" is equally fun, and a bit more challenging cardio-wise -- and not only for the additional 20 minutes!Petra's choreography and cueing are excellent as always.Step combinations are interesting, and never so difficult that you're discouraged.A great workout!

5-0 out of 5 stars this video is a great workout
This is one of my favorite videos.I like the variation and intermediate/advanced moves. So many videos just use combos of basic step and V steps, but this one really does add a lot of other moves.I am not a dancer, but had no problem catching on.It is a great workout!

5-0 out of 5 stars Using this tape for over a year & still my favorite!
I bought this tape about a year ago.I was NOT a dancer, and I was a beginner/intermediate stepper. It took me several run-throughs to get the moves down, but the effort was well worth it.I've lost that last 10pounds & kept it off. This tape is as challenging as you make it. It's still my favorite tape.Great cardio workout--heart pumping. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Kind of like yoga - but easier
This tape is kind of like yoga, but easier. It includes balance, stretching, and muscle work (situps, pushups). If I feel achy, I do this tape and my body feels great.I like Petra as instructor a lot.She isvery encouraging. It would be nice to have a little more verbalinstruction so you wouldn't have to watch the screen. There are 3 peoplein the tape, each doing a different level (begin, mod, adv) and I find thatreally a plus. When laying on your stomach and stretching up (done a lot)notice they have their stomachs really pulled in and their hips are off theground. It took me a while to figure that one out.It makes a differenceon how the move feels. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Reebok The Best of Step TV
Easty-To-Follow total body workout.Total of 53 minutes is ideal for toning, strengthening and fat burning.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Workout
Gin Miller and her team are having WAY too much fun in the first segment and I absolutely love it. I couldn't believe how fast the tape went by. Some tapes drag, but this one is fun and there's nothing wrong with that in my book. 4-0 out of 5 stars Fun AND funny
An upbeat compilation of 3 episodes from the Step TV ESPN series, which I've never seen, unfortunately. The first part of the video, basic step, is easy to catch on to, is a challenge if your step platform is high enough, and goes by quickly since the exercisers spend the whole time trying to be funny. The second segment--my favorite--is Power step, with more jumping, higher intensity moves, less joking around. The third segment, hip-hop step, is a nice concept, but the music isn't hip-hop (the music is pretty blah throughout the whole video actually), the dancy moves aren't at all challenging, and it seems to drag. Good beginner step video, and worthwhile for intermediate/advanced if you raise the platform to the tallest height. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars only for the brave
I have been working out for 22 years and consider myself to be quite advanced and this video still kicks my butt. What can I say except that when you're finished with this video, you are FINISHED, and it's hard to find videos that are as effective and advanced as this one.If you are brave enough, do this video - I promise you results!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great advanced workout!
This workout is not for beginners. This video is perfect for those days when you want to push yourself a little harder without getting confused by complex choreography. The moves are basic/intermediate but the intensity is definitely high.5-0 out of 5 stars Very High Impact / Not For Beginners

3-0 out of 5 stars Should Be Harder Than it Is
I love all of Gin Miller's step videos, but I was a little disappointed in the level of this one. I expected it to be a more difficult workout that "The Video" and "The Power Workout", but it really isn't. There are variations presented to increase the difficulty level, but it just wasn't as fun or as challenging. I can do airborne jumps without needing them in the middle of a step routine. ("Intense Moves" is another matter entirley! Wow.) It almost seems as if this video is more to show off Gin's awesome physical conditioning than anything else. The power turn sequence is practically impossible (and dangerous) to do on a carpeted area, so I substituted jump squats. If you have difficulty with two-footed jumping from a standstill, this video will give you plenty of practice at it, and I noticed an improvement as I learned to use different muscles in a better way. The short weight workout at the end really doesn't add much; you don't need a step to do the few simple exercises that are shown, and would probably benefit more from using slightly heavier weights and a regular bench.

4-0 out of 5 stars Would Be Better As Circuit Challenge II
At first I was disappointed in this video. The box states it is "interval circuit training", so I thought it would be like the Reebok Circuit Challenge (my favorite step video). Whereas, Circuit Challenge alternated between aerobics and weight training throughout the workout, Extreme Step, like most videos, builds up a step combination one part at a time with many repetitions, and then includes some training with dumbbells after the cool down. As other reviewers have noted, you need plenty of room to do this workout. The bench is in a horizontal position and, during one of the intervals, you do a one-armed push up on the end of the bench. That requires several feet clearance on each end of the step depending on how long your legs are. Other than that annoyance, the step portion is pretty good. Advanced steppers will enjoy the challenge of some of the moves. There is a spinning squat combination where you do a quarter turn, half turn, three-quarters turn and then a complete turn in between. The step portion lasts 36 minutes followed by a 4 minute cool down. The weight lifting part is only 5 minutes long and I was not very impressed with it.Most of it has you laying on your back on the bench, raising one leg at a time while doing chest flies. It didn't seem very effective to me. Finally, it ends with a three-minute stretch, for a total workout of 48 minutes. Gin Miller leads this workout and is excellent as always. It still has that Reebok "coolness" that is very motivating. It is not as good as Circuit Challenge but it is still a nice, challenging workout.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great For Guys!
I know that most guys do not like aerobics because they imagine leotard-clad, giggling girls jumping and dancing around to techno music.Reebok Extreme, as well as most of the other videos in the Reebok line (except for maybe Aerostep), is different. It is more guy-friendly with a masculine industrial background, several guys doing the workout, and a cool instructor, Gin Miller, who does not use a fake perkiness that other instructors do.In addition, this video is challenging. There is no dancing and shaking your "thang".You do one-armed push-ups, squats with complete turns, etc. It is definitely not for beginners.A weight-lifting section is also included. So if there is a guy in your life who needs to get into better shape and won't use your "prissy" aerobic tapes, give him Reebok Extreme. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works up a good sweat on an intermediate/advanced level
This video was great! I like to work up a sweat when I do my workouts and this one did it. There is alternating of lots of jumping moves in this video with lower body toning(squats, lunges, etc.). There is not much of an upper body workout if you are considering to do a workout with some upper body toning. At the end there is like a 5-10 minute section where you do some punches like Tae-Bo and some calisthenics for the upper body. Overall this tape gave me a good aerobic workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Atheltic workout great for men and women.
This tape is taught by Lisa Gaylord, and incorporates movements from various martial arts, boxing, skating, basketball, you name it.She starts out with a martial arts inspired, unique warm-up, then moves into a cardiointerval section where she alternated pretty straightforward hi impactcardio (done for a few minutes) with anaerobic activity like squats, lungesand plyometric moves that really fatigue the muscles and get the heart rateup. It's fun and nonrepetitive because she uses things like skater'slunges and basketball jumpshots to work your body. After the intervalsection, she leads you through a brief but effective series of kicks thatwon't do much for a dedicated Tae-Bo fan but it's fun and keeps the bloodflowing. The last section before the cool down is upper body, done firstwith a series of punching combos and then moves down to the floor for apushup combo that works the arms, chest, upper back and even the abs a bit. There is no ab section, per se, but other than that it's a thoroughworkout that doesn't use dancy choreography or silicone injectedintrsuctors, though with the athletic nature of the entire tape I wassurprised that there weren't any men in the class. The cool down followsthe warm up in that it's martial arts based. This is certainly more gearedtowards an intermediate level exerciser or higher, as most of the explosivemoves and cardio will be a bit daunting for a beginner. This should appealto more sports minded men and women. It's a great workout that covers a lotand gives you a very complete workout in a surprisingly short amount oftime (minus cool down and warm up it's about 35 minutes long), though itwon't feel short while you're doing it, I promise! Hard to find, but wellworth the effort if you do.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this tape...
This was one of my favorite workout videos.I think it was supposed to be a dance club-inspired workout because the sets are dark, there are sillouettes of (tasteful) go-go dancers in the background and it even came with an accompanying tape of the music they used in the workout.I liked Petra's choreography and didn't have trouble following along too much after the first time through, and I've never had dance training. This workout is about 30 minutes long.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun!!
I am NOT a dancer by any stretch of the word, but this workout sounded fun so I thought I would give it a try.I absolutely love this video. Usually I dread working out - but not with this routine. You can actually look forward to excercise now.Don't let the other reviews discourage you if you are looking to buy it.You may have to watch the video a few times before mastering it, but it is well worth the time.

3-0 out of 5 stars ok... if you're a dancer, professional or otherwise
This workout is frustrating. It is advanced, very little time is spent ( if any) on teaching viewers the moves. And understandably so, it would takes hours to illustrate the numerous amount of moves involved. It's complicated and intense. It's like trying to follow a freight train going 1000mls an hour.Petra is generally a good instructor, but I think they missed it with this one.But as my title says, it's great if you have your coordination down and are already familiar with some of these movements. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Greatvideo
I have dusted this video and slide off after about 4 years of having it.I am loving it.Great for beginners, though I wish Reebok had produced a more advanced routine as well. This video is great for fat burning and also for great legs (your legs use the same action as skaters do - and they have great legs!)

5-0 out of 5 stars slide and sweat
This video has a great warm-up and cool down section, which I find important. The actual work-out section hits all of the usual complaint areas. I feel energized when I'm done. I wish that Reebok had produced a video which brought you to the next level. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This is no ordinary up-up-down-down! Coordination, step experience, and love of dance are definitely required for this highly choreographed step workout. Petra Kolber is an excellent, creative instructor. She aims this 50-minute video at the advanced step aerobics enthusiast (or step instructor) who is hungry for more, more, more dance-oriented, complex, step choreography with rhythm variations. She packs so much choreography into this tape that she doesn't spend much time "teaching" the patterns. She does break each pattern down and teaches it at half-speed a couple of times, but you'll probably have to stop the video a number of times at first in order to learn the routines. Once you've learned them, you'll have a blast with these innovative moves and patterns. Recommended for advanced steppers and instructors. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good choreography, bad setting
I liked this video and the challenging choreography kept me interested for a few times. It's a good aerobic workout.I don't really like the dark lighting though--I need bright vibrant energy to make me want to keep doing it.

1-0 out of 5 stars My least favorite step video !
I consider myself an intermediate to advanced stepper , so I was disappointed in this video .Choppy , hoppy and not much fun .

5-0 out of 5 stars Not the same old step video
I love this video.Petra is one of my favorite instructors because she knows how to take a step routine and make it fun.The video is advanced but her cues are easy to follow and you should be able to pick up the hand gestures after the 2nd time through. If you are done with the same old routine and ready for an exciting and fun challenge this is a great video to start with.I own at least 8 Reebok vidoes and this one makes it into my weekly circuit every other week because it is just plain fun to execute her choreography.Petra incorporates a variety of moves to enhance lower body toning such as kicks and lunges. It is a great way to raise your heart rate and work out the lower body. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Stands the Test of Time
Despite amassing a considerable collection of exercise videos in the past 10 years, the Reebok Versa Training series (Hi-Low, Dance Step, Abs, Legs) is undoubtedly my favorite.Hi-Low and Dance Step have the quality of being filmed, rather than taped. The background is artistic: montage images on a large screen; billowing curtains off to the side, nearly out of sight. The music is of the ambient-world variety, as in the Buddha Bar or Hotel Etages compilations. With such high production values, exercising never becomes a monotonous grind. However, the learning curve is not instant. You will have to stop and rewind the tape, but it is worth the effort. The Abs and Legs tapescan be learned in one or two viewings. The trade-off is that they're less visually satisfying, but they are well done and provide quality work-outs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst One Ever
This is the worst video I have ever see Petra lead. First thing, her mouth isn't even moving with the words. Petra is usually much better at giving cues than she is in this video. I am an experienced exerciser and this one was just no good.

1-0 out of 5 stars No Good!
ACTUALLY IGNORE MY 1 STAR BECAUSE I WOULDNT GIVE THIS VIDEO ANY. THIS VIDEO IS DEFINETLY NOT FOR BEGINNERS SHE DOESNT EXPLAIN ANY MOVES TO YOU LIKE YOUR SUPPOSE TO KNOW WHATS COMING NEXT.AND IT DOESNT MATTER HOW MANY TIME YOU REWIND AND REWIND YOU STILL WONT CATCH ON.OH AND BABY THE MUSIC JUST GOTS TO GO!!! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great tape but too may recovery periods
The video is pretty intense, but has too many recovery periods in my opinion. The video starts off with a tai chi warm up and cool down that was not appropriate for this video. You really need to get the blood pumping and get a good stretch in your legs before starting the workout. Then it moves into the first aerobic segment. This video alternates aerobic segments w/ the intense move segments - jumps, kicks, squats, lunges, kickboxing, and cross country skiing. After the aerobic circuits, I did some jump-roping moves. In between the toning segments, I did kicks, knee ups, and punches. When I did that, I got a good decent workout. This tape I would classify as an upper-intermediate tape. It is a great tape on those days where you need a good workout, but don't want to deal with complexity.

4-0 out of 5 stars strong, basic moves
This video is great for all levels of fitness. It uses interval training of basic calistentics and intense power moves for a very good workout. The moves look simple until you actually perform them-then you realize how hard you are working out. The instructor gives great cues and instruction so that beginners will be able to follow. A good video to have in your collection. ... Read more
