5-0 out of 5 stars I bought a DVD player because of this release...
I am really sorry that this version of Yellow Submarine has gone out of print. When it came out in 1999, I had not yet purchased a DVD player, but I did immediately buy the VHS version. It was so wonderful, SO wonderful, and I read so many great reviews about the DVD, that I went out and bought the DVD, before I had a DVD player. Then not only did I buy a DVD player but also a new Kenwood receiver so I could get all the benefits of the surround sound. That's how crazy I was.The really crazy thing is, it was worth every penny.Plus it spoiled me.I expected every DVD release to show the same care and quality that Yellow Submarine did.The care that they lavished upon all aspects of this release, the video quality, the INCREDIBLE AUDIO QUALITY and the wonderful extras, are amplified by the horrible job that Miramax did on A Hard Day's Night. It's a shame that Apple could not was not able to get control of that. What a disgrace Miramax made of a classic.Makes me wonder what is happening with HELP!, Magical Mystery Tour and Let It Be.I pray daily that Miramax isn't able to get their grubby little hands on anymore Beatle product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Once upon a time... far-far away... behind the iron curtain...,
...there lived a girl in a big city. She loved to read, watch the movies and listen to the music. Her favorite group for many years had been the Fab Four from Liverpool, "The Beatles". Her wish was to collect one day all their Albums on LPs (yes, guys, it was that long ago). She had a dream to see her idols on the concert or in the movies but it was impossible. Their movies were not shown behind the iron curtain; as for the concert, they would love to come to her country but were not allowed. Then, one day, her mom told her that in the cinema close to their house, the retrospective of the British Animated Movies would be shown and she mentioned one of the titles, "Yellow Submarine". The girl could not believe her ears. Could that be true? Did the yellow submarine traveled many seas and made it to her city? Ringo, John, George, and Paul did not stuck in the sea of time; they emerged from a "Vacuum Flask to Nowhere and with the little help of a "Nowhere Man", Jeremy, they walked through the sea of holes "that stopped their minds from wondering"... The girl had to find out if it was true.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Everyone is a Stranger to Candy
I saw "ZP" during its initial theatrical release at a theater on an Air Force Base in Texas.Although it was a little more controversial than "My Fair Lady", it was not the revolutionary and subversive piece that many of its current admirers like to believe, or at least the armed forces saw fit to make it accessible to the troops.Of course that was at least in part because nobody could figure out what Antonioni was trying to communicate with this film.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beatles Hit the Road With Aunt Jessica And Friends
I like the eleven Beatles music scenes that are essentially pre-MTV music videos. Unfortunately, the remainder of the program, which mainly features "Aunt Jessica", will give you nightmares. They should have provided an option to play only the Beatles music scenes.

5-0 out of 5 stars you will love it if your a true beatles fan
the magical mystery tour is amazing the beatles are psycadelic masterminds obviously you dont watch the movie how its supoused to be watched...on drugs.thats how they ment it to be watched i love the movie it is really trippy and i think its trippyier than yellow sub. but dont get me wrong the yellow sub has a plot and a good story line and is a better all around movie.but if your watching it for how it was sposed to be watched youd like m.m.t

3-0 out of 5 stars "Take a guess!"
"Magical Mystery Tour" is a 50 minute or so TV special that the Beatles shot and directed in 1967, and originally was shown on Boxing Day in that year in England. John, Paul, George, Ringo and his aunt take a tourist bus around England, a ride where anything can happen, and some of that anything does. The many adventures they have include a foot and car race, watching a movie in a tent bigger on the inside than the outside, a stripshow, and a singalong on the accordion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trippy...
A few years before this movie came out, a movie called "Tommy" came out. This movie took the concept album of The Who's "Tommy" and transferred it to the big-screen, using only music and absolutely no dialogue to further the story along. I never turn off a movie, no matter how bad I think it is. Except "Tommy." In reality, the film wasn't bad...It just annoyed me. There was a huge lack of entertainment going on. I wasn't expecting much from The Wall, but I've heard so many good things about it. I had to see it. Let me say, I haven't heard a lot of Pink Floyd stuff. I've only listened to four albums (Umma Gumma, Dark Side of the Moon, Atom Heart Mother, and Wish You Were Here). Yes, that's right. I haven't even heard The Wall album. This film is simalar to Tommy in the fact that Pink Floyd's music plays throughout the film. The difference is, there is some dialogue in the film although it doesn't move the plot along at all. The other difference is, this film has amazing visuals and is fun to watch. The movie's plot is basically a rock star named Pink (Bob Geldof) sits watching a war movie and begins to remember his childhood. Blended in is memories, fantasies, and a bunch of other [...] that results in one trippy movie to watch. But, as I said, the visuals are what keep you watching. The movie's metaphors (especially the title one) are very smart, the script is by Roger Waters (although I don't know how a person could write a script like this). If you're a Floyd fan/arty kinds of films, check this out for sure. All movies, in my opinion, are forms of art...But this film is actually like a work of art. Anyway, if you're just a moviegoer looking for some entertainment on a Saturday night...This isn't the movie for you.

Great Movie ! Can't argue that but the DVD lets it down a bit. The menu items do not work properly unless the dvd i bought is faulty? Nice cover though.

4-0 out of 5 stars A cheap price to pay for memories
Staying over at my house in high school almost always meant The Wall would make its way to the VCR. Not only because it was a great movie, but also because it had been stolen from every video store in town. By the time I was out of high school, the tape was literally worn out, and the weekly viewings had ceased.

5-0 out of 5 stars I miss the 1970's...
You could get away with making a film like this back in the 1970's, where people weren't so rigid, uptight, and STUPID.This is a hilarious film about 2 stoners. There's no "moral message", there's no gratuitous violence, there's no political correctness, there are no stupid teenagers, and there's no degree of seriousness whatsoever. It's a hilarious piece of filmmaking. This film, along with Things Are Tough All Over, are Cheech and Chong's two finest films.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheech & Chong's first movie goes out with a bang
Cheech & Chong already had a bunch of albums under their belts since 1971, so they weren't exactly new when Up in Smoke hit the theaters in September, 1978. I had often seen this movie on network TV, unfortunately, it was so drastically butchered because they had to censor a lot, not to mention all the commercials. But of course I had to get this movie on VHS or DVD. I ended up with the DVD, which has some bonus features, including a bunch of unused clips, and even audio commentary from Lou Adler and Cheech Marin about the movie, and I actually got some useful info from them about the movie, and some trivia along with it (like the VW Beetle Tommy Chong was driving with the Rolls Royce radiator strapped on the front near the beginning of the film actually belonged to Jack Nicholson).

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Greatest Movies Ever
Terry Gilliam is my favorite director and here he is at his best. At first the movie just seems like a dark comedy but as you watch later on you realize the absolute genius and how close this is to reality. Even if you don't really understand Brazil(and I don't quite understand it either) you can still admire the amazing art in the film and just some of the amazing visuals.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ehm...what the hell?!
This is the sort of movie where if you go "nah, didn't really like it" people will just say that you didn't get it as if you're some sort of moron, who's incapable of comprehending a movie with a more complex plot than Star Wars. The movie does have a couple of upsides (that's why I gave it 2 instead of 1 star) namely Michael Palin and the stunning visuals. The rest is dismal at best. The movie is way too long and I felt no connection to the characters whatsoever. I also don't think that Gilliam is some sort of visionary for creating this movie...does the # "1984" ring a bell? Now that was a visionary book while this is a halfhearted attempt to copy it (along with some personal additions here and there).

I have a special attachment to this movie in that a) I met Ms. Carlisle personally at a family function and discussed the film; b) In the neighborhood which the movie takes place, I saw one of the first screenings; and c) I own and listen to the vinyl LP to this day.

You are now entering Interzone, William S. Burroughs's phantasmagorical land of junk, paranoia, and crawly things. Best travel advice:"Exterminate all rational thought." In David Cronenberg's superbly shot, unnerving warp on the Burroughs novel, the novelist himself becomes a main character (played in an implacable monotone by Peter Weller), with elements from Burroughs' life--including the shooting of his wife during a "William Tell" game, and bohemian friends Kerouac and Ginsberg--added to frame the book's wild visions. This is, ironically, a somewhat rational approach to an unfilmable book (and it makes a hair-curling double bill with Read more

It would take a lot of money to really make this film as it needs to be done, BUT, this is a solid effort by a talented director and a well chosen cast. It's a good addition to the novel. 5-0 out of 5 stars Overhyped cult film finally makes good.
I'd seen this film before, in a lesser unrestored edition, and wasn't that impressed. Sure there's some over-the-top moments worth a chuckle or two, but the majority of the film is pretty leaden and dull. Hardly the unintentional laugh riot it's reputed to be.
5-0 out of 5 stars Reefer Madness in BOTH B&W & COLOR + Extras!!!
This "Special Addiction" DVD of "Reefer Madness from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is truly awesome!!! Includes BOTH Original Black and White and Colorized Versions of the now cult classic!!! Plus some great extras too, including 2 commentaries and the hilarious "Gandpa's Marijuana Handbook"! Two thumbs up!!! Five stars!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Did Anyone Buy This?
Reefer Madness was a propoganda film against the use of marijuana, especially among teenagers. The story is a loose one about a group of kids who begin to party at a drug dealer's house and become hooked on the product. Instead of the usual symptoms like mild behavior and food cravings, these kids laugh like hyenas, engage in extreme sexual activities, and become very violent. One girl is even killed. Perhaps the film served as a warning in its time, but it is very laughable today. Not only are the kids stereotypical of perfect kids gone wrong, there are subliminal messages (4-20) and fake facts to back up the ridiculousness of the film.

A bewigged Sean Connery is Zed, a savage "exterminator" commanded by the mysterious god Zardoz to eliminate Brutals, survivors of an unspecified worldwide catastrophe. Zed stows away inside Zardoz's enormous idol (a flying stone head) and is taken to the pastoral land of the Eternals, a matriarchal, quasi-medieval society that has achieved psychic abilities as well as immortality. Zed finds as much hope as disgust with the Eternals; their advancements have also robbed them of physical passion, turning their existence into a living death. Zed becomes the Eternals' unlikely messiah, but in order to save them--and himself--he must confront the truth behind Zardoz and his own identity inside the Tabernacle, the Eternals' omnipresent master computer.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Mix of laughable and unforgettable
In about three hundred years, after some catastrophe has virtually wiped out our civilization, two branches of humanity remain to sparsely populate a now pristine Earth. The "Brutals" are uncivilized apes - ruled by an army of gun-toting, loincloth-wearing "Exterminators" who kill with little compunction. The Brutals are themselves on a divine mission, ordained by the great god Zardoz to cleanse the world "of the plague of men".Taking the form of a huge, flying stone head, Zardoz lands amid gangs of Brutals, preaching genocide and spitting huge piles of guns and ammo at his gleeful followers."Go forth, and kill", spake Zardoz, even as his gun-firing followers fill his head with crops harvested by Brutal slaves.Zed (Connery), one of the Brutals, stows away as the stone head floats away, thinking it will bring him to the after-life known as the vortex.Zed - as the story will show - has already been infected with some form of heresy that Zardoz is not what he seems to be.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sean Connory breaking out of the chains of Bond, a classic movie
This movie is one of the Genre of the post apocalytic, overlycontrolled society, but a different twist than many of the others. Based as a world of outlanders and the society, Zardoz plays more on the class differences and higher society comming together to "set the standards" and control or crush everything else. Connery plays a "brutal" from outside the Vortex, which is a society set up by elite in which science and itellectuals combined to explore the human potential and eventually gain inmortality. These intellectuals prey on the outsiders to gain supplies by using "zardoz", a flying large head. Connery stoes away in this flying head and enters the Compound, where he is studied, but eventually he aids in the fall of this Utopia.Definitely something different than the "big brother is watching" films of sci-fi, this film was different, and that is what makes it a definite pick for anybody who like the sci-fi genre, must see, even better to own now that its on DVD.

3-0 out of 5 stars GOOD MOVIE
