5-0 out of 5 stars Memorable
I borrowed this video from the library during my pregnancies (2) and compared to another pregnancy video I tried (Kathy Smith) this was far superior. I felt wonderfully exercised and healthy after using the Fonda video. Being pregnant is uncomfortable, so many women don't bother with exercise, but this video actually made me feel more comfortable, not to mention stronger, healthier and proud of myself that I was doing something good for me and my baby!

1-0 out of 5 stars Confusing and Annoying
This 1993-produced workout is much too confusing - I had to watch it several times before I understood what was going on.Many of the exercises are difficult and don't feel like they're really doing much good. The music is terrible and annoying.I have used Buns of Steel 8: Pregnancy Workout and liked that one MUCH better!

4-0 out of 5 stars A very complete video for mothers to be
This is an excellent video for new mothers to be. I used it during my pregnancy and it was very encouraging. It starts with a warm-up and arm routine. Then it goes on to the middle, and lower body. It also has somespecial streaching routines and it has a part that practices the breathingfor labor and relaxation. This is part that is the best. After youve hadyour baby it has some abdominal exercices with the baby near you (I noticedsome exercices almost hit the babies)! Overall it was very helpfull and ifyou want to stay in shape during your pregnancy and practice relation andbreathing you can get this video. The only thing is that the music was notvery good and you have to listen to all the instruccions very carefully soyou and your baby are safe. After having my baby I prefered other routinesmore ad-hoc. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good explanations of poses
This video is great at explaining the poses, even if you have never taken Yoga before. She keeps the new-agey stuff to a minimum and focuses on the poses themselves. I would suggest (as she does) to watch the video once all the way through, and then practice the poses. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Just OK!
This video was a disappointment! The steps are not creative or well arranged at all. They go back to the same couple of little steps over and over through all the sections.I would complain that they didn't que the moves, but they were so simplistic and repititious that I really didn't have trouble picking them up.Overall, the video was just bland! The workout itself, the music, and the demeanor of the participants were all boring.I agree with other reviews who said to spend your money on something better, like Kathy Smith's pregnancy workout (it was really good!).

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
I think this video is great! I did it almost every day from my 4th month until my 9th month started(now my feet are too swollen)Although, it is not extremely challenging, you can increase the intensity(bigger movements, etc.)and get your heart rate up. Yeah, I agree with everyone else, the instructor is pretty bad, but since I have done the video every day for several months, I have it memorized. You only really have to do it for a week and you know what youre doing by heart. But I LOVE the video, it was fun, and I could put it in every day and do it. I also bought the Denise Austin one, but I HATED it!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Uncoordinated workout
This tape was not worth the money.I gave it away. The directions are poor. The flow feels uncoordinated and choppy. It wasn't interesting, and it wasn't a great workout.Pay a little extra for a better tape. You'll be glad you did. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
I'm in my second trimester.I practiced Pilates to relieve lower back pain before conceiving and was disappointed when I realized I couldn't continue beyond my first trimester since most of the exercises have you lying flat on your back. This video, however, shows modifications so that I can continue doing the exercises I love.True, it's not as intense as regular Pilates, but the point now is to maintain fitness and relieve aches and pains, not to make fitness gains.I find that I get a good workout if I do the second trimester sequence twice (20 minutes total) and really focus on the muscles I'm working.I had started to re-experience lower back pain when I had to stop regular Pilates but thanks to this video, it's starting to fade.I think this video would be best for women who've had some Pilates experience since the instructor doesn't talk much about technique, but beginners could still benefit.

2-0 out of 5 stars Safe but not a real workout
The video definitely shows safe techniques, but lacks any type of intensity.I was bored and did not feel that I had any type of workout. The stretches were nice and the tape is relaxing, but that is not why I bought it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This prenatal and postnatal workout was originally issued in 1983--the products of those pregnant bellies are probably doing their own workouts by now. Although most of the workout itself is still appropriate, you'll want to update the way you do it. For example, Fonda and her participants work out barefoot (with those ubiquitous legwarmers that were popular at the time). Please wear shoes for stability. And they warm up by standing still, knees locked, doing an endless series of arm movements that do little but tire the shoulders. (We know now that rhythmic movement that gets the whole body warmed up is more effective than standing still and isolating one body part.) This video offers a 45-minute workout that is suitable for pregnant women and new mothers, plus 20 extra minutes for postnatal exercisers only, and a 20-minute segment about birth, baby massage, and infant care. Despite the generous length of this video, you might get more out of a more up-to-date pregnancy workout that reflects current recommendations and guidelines. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars never done it
I have never been pregnant before, so I have never done this video, but I have watched it. My mom has done it before and she didn't like it. It looks okay, but it is almost as if Jane Fonda thought that as long as there were not any aerobics and no ab work, it would be perfect for pregnant women. First there is a workout for pregnant womwn and women recovering from pregnancy. Then there is an extra floor workout for women recovering from a pregnancy. Then a women named Femmy DeLyser shows you birthing tips and at the end of the video there is a section on baby care.

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring and slow
I find this workout to be boring, slow, and uninspiring.I used it with my first pregnancy eight years ago and recently tried to exercise with it.It is old and outdated. The newer videos for pregnancy workout feature a fun aerobics segment which this workout omits. Some of the techniques in the exercises do not match what is said on the newer videos today. The newer videos I have found state that they conform with the Guildlines of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.I feel safer performing movements that have been deemed okay for pregnant women. Also, in the videos I have, the instructors are pregnant themselves.I highly recommend the Kathy Smith Pregnancy workout along with the Buns of Steel Pregnancy workout.5-0 out of 5 stars A good class!
This class is an excellent workout for new mothers and mothers to be.What's also great is that this class can be used simply by others lookingfor a different, less strenuous workout routine. However, this class is not a piece ofcake. It can be very vigorous to those who are not accustomed to JaneFonda's style, especially since the style of this video very closelyresembles her earlier tapes, like the original Workout and the New Workout. The exercises are almost exact matches with minor variations them slightlyeasier. While no exerciseclass should be easy enough to be able to smoothly do the first time or twoaround, this can push it a little. The stretches require you to be limbersomewhat, and the added recovery section might as well be a mix of her"Easy Going Workout" (old title-"Prime Time Workout")and her original. This tape, though, can be very effective if users implement their ownstyles and improvements to meet their exercise needs. Not only mothers canbenefit from this program. If people, both men and women, desire an easierclass to get into shape, without the use of aerobics (let alone shoes forthis class), this can be a very nice change of pace. ... Editorial Review

Kelley Valle, a seven-months-pregnant obstetrician, leads viewers through a 33-minute yoga-based workout designed for prenatal purposes. The good news for the mom-to-be is that this means no power yoga. These are all simple poses, traditional stretches, even a belly-dancing movement--all designed to ease back pain and stretch muscles that will be used in delivery. But women who already know yoga and who are actively exercising will not find this routine particularly challenging. In addition, Valle wears a distracting sarong-style skirt that obscures her legs, making it sometimes difficult to see her precise positions and movements. Another important note: Valle demonstrates a pushing exercise in the controversial supine position, which some doctors warn against for women past their first trimester. Check with your own doctor to see what she advises for you. The workout is followed by a 12-minute deep relaxation exercise, five minutes of English vowel and Sanskrit chants, and a six-minute segment on pre-natal nutrition. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
When I first turned on the video I was impressed. There was yoga going on, the music is not too prominent or annoying, the voice of the (invisible) narrator is soothing, the background is nice, the woman does not hold the poses for too long so it is easy to follow and she does a short breathing or relaxation exercise in between the different poses to give me time to recover. Then, it became clear that the actual yoga part of the 60-minute video only lasts about 20 minutes and that included the breathing at the beginning and in between the poses as well as a 5-minute visualization of the baby.In all, there were only about 6 different poses to do.Then there is a long, (about 20 minute) "deep relaxation" section which I found useless because I have a 2 year old and I do not have the ability to lie on the floor and relax each of my body parts separately. If you *like* to do guided relaxation, I see no problem with it, however. There is also a section about nutrition at the end, and I don't know why it is there because it is extremely basic information you can get from any book or your healthcare provider and I wish the time had been devoted to doing more exercises.I was also particularly irriated that the one "birthing" pose shown was the supine (or back-lying) position with feet up as if in stirrups which is the WORST way to give birth, even though the narrator says that there are many ways to give birth, but for "educational purposes" the supine position will be shown. (???)I wish more time had been spent on the different ways to squat, as these are more natural birthing positions and require more exercise and practice beforehand.Instead of this video, I'm going to follow the extensive yoga exercises described in the book _Active Birth_ by Janet Balaskas and I will try to get along without a video to follow because this video isn't at all what I wanted.

5-0 out of 5 stars empower yourself to have a wonderful birth with this video
I have been teaching Prenatal yoga for several years. I have seen first hand how the repetitive use this type of yoga can improve birth outcomes and the overall wellbeing of pregnant women. The video is very safe, gentle and relaxing, concentrating on breath work to release tension and stress. The main purpose seems to be to prepare the woman's body for easier and healthier childbirth. There seems to be a deeper purpose for which the other reviewers have seemed to overlook, and that is the hightened connection and bonding with the baby.Repetitive use of the visualizations and vocalizations are proven to enhance the mother-baby relationship in many ways. Most women don't understand how important the use of sound is in childbirth. This is the only prenatal yoga video I have seen that emphasizes practicing vocalization for pain management. Also a woman can take the skills learned toempower herself during the birth of her child.I highly recommend this video and it makes a great gift!

2-0 out of 5 stars Left a bit to be desired
Although I am new to yoga I have done some and I was expecting more from this video. The background were sotthing and the music was relaxing but the yoga poses were too few. I don't feel like I have fully stretchecd. I also didn't like the EXTENDED visualization. You lie on your side for close to 15 minutes "relaxing to music" Over all I am very disapointed in the video. I guess if you are doing nothing at all it may be a good start. I did alot of research before buying this video and unfortunatly there dosn't seem to be too much out there in the way of yoga for pregnancy. ... Read more

Editorial Review

An RN and a certified yoga instructor, Colette Crawford has modified atraditional yoga workout specifically for the new mom. With additionalinstruction for early postpartum (less than six weeks) and those recovering fromcesarean births, she has created a gentle transition from pregnancy and birth tomore rigorous exercise. The first half of the hour-long workout is a full-body,low-impact routine that includes bends and reaches from the standing position, some floorwork, and relaxation. The second half focuses on stretching andstrengthening specific areas: neck and shoulders, lower back and pelvis, andabdominals. Crawford gives voice-over instructions set to low-key backgroundmusic and the exercises and positions are demonstrated either by groups of newmothers (and babies) or by Crawford alone. The positions are simple: child'spose, bridge pose, and such. Crawford helpfully reminds viewers frequently ofthe correct breathing method. The relaxed atmosphere is augmented by the factthat one of the exercisers frequently interrupts her workout to comfort anddistract her active baby, which will doubtless provide consolation to the momsat home who face the identical interruption to this video. 2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I agree completely with the previous reviewer.I also religiously followed a vigorous prenatal yoga routine and found this routine to be way too easy and wimpy. There isn't much in the way of yoga poses. The first segment of breathing/flow exercises is nice, but again, not in the least bit challenging.I'm not saying I want to run a marathon or anything (I'm only 3 weeks postpartum), but I almost feel as if it would be better to relax on the couch and do nothing than to spend an entire precious hour on this tape!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good stretch, not much of a workout
Maybe it's good for those first few weeks postpartum, mostly stretching and some abdominal exercises, but not much of a challenge. 2-0 out of 5 stars Didn't care for this video
I found this video to be too long without much payback in terms of relaxation.I also thought that some of the exercises were inappropriate for the early postnatal period but that Colette neglected to point all of them out. Some are noted, but occasionally not until after the pose is shown, so some people might be tempted to do too much too soon.I also didn't care much for the production quality.I guess I'm just used to the Living Arts videos.I would also have preferred to see more babies in the video, as one of the reasons I bought it was to find a way to exercise while my son was awake.Since he never napped for more than 10 minutes at a time and needed constant holding, I was disappointed to find no poses modified so that you could use your infant as part of the pose.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lifesaver for busy moms!
As a busy mother of 2 young children, I have found that 3 ten minute workouts are much easier to fit into my day than a 30 minute block. This tape consists mostly of strength training exercises, but they are paced quickly enough to get the heart rate up as well. The FitMama workout or just plain walking are great ways to get in cardio, if you feel you need it.This video is probably not challenging enough for a fitness buff, but for those of us just looking to fit in some sort of activity each day, I highly recommend it.Quick Fix has kept me energized and helped me keep my weight gain in check throughout this pregnancy. However, the most dramatic and surprising benefit for me has been the total elimination of the sciatica I had been experiencing not only in this pregnancy, but in the two prior. So if you're battling back pain, trying to squeeze in fitness between errands, or just want a solid workout that is gentle enough for your newly rounded body, this one is a winner!

5-0 out of 5 stars all strength training
This video features 3 ten minute toning segments (core, upper and lower body) for beginnner/moderate exercisers. If you've taken a lot of time off because of fatigue or other pregnancy related issues, or aren't a fitness fan, this video will help you stay toned. You'll have to supplement with cardio of course, to keep up your endurance and keep weight off, but strength training is just as important. All of the women featured are fit with just a tiny perfect belly, which is probably intended to be inspiring, but makes me want to slap them instead. I'd like to see at least one pleasantly plump woman sweating with the rest. Who really only gains 20 pounds anyway?
5-0 out of 5 stars loved it!
I'm a 20 year old mom to be with bad back problems and I stand all day in my workplace so that in itself is a workout!I bought this video yesterday a little skeptical at first. But after trying it right after work I feel more energized and better about my body already.I absolutely love this instructor and hope that I can find some of her other stuff for after my baby.I'm a serial workout tape collector and my collection usually ends up collecting something of it's own...dust!And while I will only be able to use this while pregnant it's still worth the money and I would totally reccomend it to other pregnant friends in the future.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL
I am not sure why these other people have given Rainbeau less than five stars, I found it very much from the heart and because Rainbeau is actually pregnant herself, touching in a way that none of the other programs that I have watched have been....Thank you Rainbeau, for sharing such a full and rich time in your life with those of up going through the same thing at home...It will definetely appeal to hip, open and probably younger enthusiastic but possibly scared moms to be. By the way, I have seen a picture of Rainbeau soon after her delivery in her Oxygen column and she bounced back amazingly without any strech marks...I will do what she suggests....and for moms that are looking for the same, I recommend you do to....

1-0 out of 5 stars not for me, probably not for many others
the instructor is a yoga guru obviously, but she does not know how to instruct prenatal exercises...i did not like the workout or the style in which she attempted to soothe and settle the body...i don't think others will really like this video either, it is not very good at all

5-0 out of 5 stars From the Heart
I was completely blown away by this video.... Rainbeau offers a very personal and in your livingroom way to go through a very effective yoga routine.I am five months pregnant and found it so very thourough in technique, enjoyment and education. This is the first video that I have found that the teacher is pregnant herself and because of this, seems to be sharing a very personal, direct experience.I am grateful for her that she took the time to make this video as I myself can not imagine doing anything other than being pregnant right now.THANK YOU RAINBEAU FOR THIS GIFT....I hope that all pregnant woman will get this video and that they are moved by it as deeply as I have been. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars i can almost always fit this in
i liked this for those days when i don't have time to go for a bike ride or swim laps.i can almost always work in the ab exercises since it is only 10 minutes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Short Workouts
The short workouts let you squeeze them in around baby's schedule, and still feel like you're getting a workout. They are not too difficult and the countdown clock is great to see how much time is left in each segment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to lose baby weight
I love this post-natal workout dvd. I'm a new mom of a 3 month old and i never have time to do anything else because of his fussiness and colic. I had gained 185 pounds during pregnancy and lost about 20 lbs. I wanted something extra to get me back into shape and lose the extra 20 pounds i still have! The 10 minute sessions are effective and perfect for in-between naps. The clock keeps me motivated and the music is upbeat. I have been using the dvd for only 2 weeks and i already see results! I lost 3 pounds and about 2 inches off my waist and i can finally see some abs forming! ... Read more
