5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Workout for Preggos
Of all the prenatal videos I bought, this was my absolute favorite. It makes you sweat and helps to stretch you out, but more importantly, it's fun. I have some other videos and they put me right to sleep. I love this video.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best labor and delivery prep
As someone who is of intermediate fitness level in the middle of my 2nd trimester, I was disappointed with the cardio (salsa) segment of this video.Maybe when I am deep in my 3rd trimester, this salsa dancing might be all I can handle. In the meantime, I will continue using Kathy Smith's Great Buns and Thighs Step workout for cardio (at beginner-level/low impact intensity), which I highly recommend.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fit Mama is the Best
I am on my second trimester and started doing the Fit Mama workout, it is the best I've tried so far.It is simple and easy to follow. The exercises are well-tailored to a pregnant body, and leave you feeling energized, but relaxed. The repetition of the exercises lets you truly focus and appreciate your changing body and its needs of the day.I give it an A+. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing workout
Hi everybody. I am almost 38 weeks pregnant now and I started working out with Kathy Smith's DVD since I was 16 weeks pregnant. I strongly recommend this workout for perople who might expect the outdated music and outfits, buying the workout from late 1980s.
5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it's a bit stuck in the 80's, but it's a GREAT video
Hi,
3-0 out of 5 stars Totally CHEESY!!!
Kathy incorporates some good exercise moves for someone who is in average shape, but the workout outfits & her style is TOTALLY outdated! For someone in their 20's or even in their early 30's you might not be able to tolerate the CHEESINESS! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars irritating but effective
This video used to be the only one available for pregnant people. I have used it for three pregnancies, including my current one which is a twin pregnancy. The music is elevator Glori Estefan. Denise is a little too perky for the hormonal, the moves are dated and the costumes are ridiculous. That being said, it's great for begining exercisers or off days for those who are too tired for anything more intense. There are some weak toning exercises for the core and lower body after the 20 minute cardio segment. You could always put it on mute and listen to better music!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not if you're familiar with aerobics
This tape is ok for beginners (she takes time to explain proper positions, etc.) but I found it less than rewarding. Walking around while pumping your arms would have been as effective and cost much less!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good pregnancy and follow-up workout
I used this workout all through my pregnancy, clear up until a couple days before delivery. It was enough of a workout to get the blood pumping, but without raising my heart beat up past what doctors say is safe during pregnancy. Ask your doctor before doing the floor work portion of the workout in the last trimester though. This is a slower paced workout, but really helps keep problems like high blood pressure, weight gain and other pregnancy related problems to a minimum.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this video
I absolutely love this video.I am a very active person and usually get bored really easily by workout videos. I especially hate it when the choreography is repetitive and boring.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thank goodness for a normal pregnancy workout
When I was looking for a way to keep doing aerobics, I turned naturally to Kathy Smith, whose tapes I have been doing for years. But the reviews editorially and from the customers were so bad, I didn't want to take a chance.I also do a lot of Buns of Steel work outs from the 90s, and so when I saw there was a pregnancy tape, I decided to give it a try.The moves are fun and she adds on so you don't get bored. She also does a section of lunges, squats and some stomach work.I think it is a great 40 minutes.Plus the people in the video are really pregnant!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good pilates and excellent instruction
I used to do the Method with Jennifer Kries and therefore was bummed when I could no longer do Pilates on my back after four months. So I bought this DVD and it has been really fabulous. You don't need all the toys like the ball (just squeeze your legs against your own resistence) and I don't really use a bar for balance. Her weights section is excellent, and sometimes I even use 5 lb weights in some of them to maximize my workout. Also, on the main menu, you can go right to the workout and don't have to speed through the long winded introduction of some of the instructors (how much do you need to hear about the well being of your baby?)
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Mix
This is a wonderful mix of yoga and pilates that really helped me stay in shape during my pregnancy. And after birth, I was able to lose weight quickly and continued to use the moves I learned with the video. The instructors are really easy to understand and the moves are easy on a pregnant body! ... Read more

Relaxing, strengthening, and allowing oneself to feel rather than think have long been associated with ancient yoga practice. Instructor Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa expertly ties this essential combination of physical experiences together in a gentle exercise video for pregnant women of all fitness levels. Prior to the 45-minute routine, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa discusses the role of yoga in helping with pregnancy; the calm and security that develop through guided breathing and gentle movement are transferred from the mother's body to her growing baby. The nonimpact routine itself provides ample warm-up, toning, and conditioning portions, as well as a deep, head-to-toe relaxation and visualization segment. Ten pregnant students (all pleasantly unrehearsed) stretch, bend, and learn along with the viewer, to the peaceful sounds of a live band consisting of wood flute, bass, quiet drum, and shimmering bells. Every bit as enriching for the soul as it is for the body. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too "out there" fpr me
I did not even make it through this tape, as the instructor began the New-Age-speak right away.I am interested in relaxation and execution, not locating my "third eye".If you are like me, skip it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely horrible
This was an absolutely awful program - a complete waste of money.Strange, annoying, and not good exercise. The Gaiam video is much better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chant with an Open Mind
I used this program through both of my pregnancies.I have to admit, the chanting is a little strange at first, but if you approach it with an open mind and relax into it...it isn't that bad.I actually started to like it, and am picking up the postnatal tape because I grew so fond of it.I do have to say, if you are chanting and your husband or 6 year old walk in--you will start to giggle and so will they.My 6 year old actually liked to do the tape with me. The only part I didn't like was the free-form dance section, so I would just sway and watch the ladies on the tape at that point. ... Read more

Los Angeles yoga guru Gurmukh Khalsa guides 15 new moms andtheir babies through 30 minutes of yoga stretches and poses, a joyfultwo-minute baby dance, a brief bout of baby yoga, and about 10 minutesof rest and visualization in this post-baby installment of "The Method"series of exercise tapes. The white-turbaned instructor starts with abrief talk about childbirth, yogic breathing, and a recommendation to"reclaim" one's navel. Viewers join her at the live taping of a classin a large room with Greek columns, roses, and a chamber quintet. Sinceit's not edited, babies cry and fuss. This adds a realistic element ofchaos to the tape, which the more traditional voice-over instructionignores. Khalsa specializes in the Kundalini method, and in this tapeshe concentrates on slow stretches with a lot of abdominal work. Theinfants are included in some, as when the women roll back and forthwith babies on their bellies or do "mama pushups" over the little ones. But once they are old enough to crawl, these exercises getdifficult--as one baby repeatedly demonstrates. The infants are also incorporatedin a cobra/triangle series, a set of Kegels, and are even used asweights. Then it's their turn with some baby stretches of their own. Finally, the moms are invited to lie down with their offspring for therest and relaxation finale--although, predictably, some babies doneither. The 50-minute tape provides plenty of good ideas for moms whowant to do yoga with their babies--or even on their own. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too much eastern religion; too little work out.
The instructor looks like a Hindu priestess. She begins the workout by having everyone chant to their inner being.I had to fast forward through alot. The exercises are good, but there are too few of them.

4-0 out of 5 stars baby loves it!
I love doing this workout with my baby. I have the Giam postnatal workout and I only ever get 1/3 of the way through it before my baby wakes up and wants me to do anything but yoga. With this video, I can do it while he's awake and he doesn't fuss one bit! The first part of the workout has the baby lying on the floor in front of you while you do the workout. My baby loves looking at the other babies and seems to like the instructor's voice as well. it's the only thing he ever pays attention to on the TV. He also absoutely loves the part of the workout that involves him as a weight (his first giggles were while doing this video) and I get a great workout by using him as a weight. The workout is kind of short, but I think my baby might lose interest if it wasn't. I love the chanting and visualization too. It is like being in a real yoga class, not just some baby arobics. Don't get this video if you don't like yoga (and therefore the chanting.) My only complaint is that there could be more traditional yoga poses. This workout is very much about strengthening with repetitions of crunches, squats, and leg lifts, not really the relaxing sort of strength-building yoga.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Great Yoga
I am sure if you just want a pregnancy or post natal workout that these are fine.I personally LOVE my yoga practice and found these videos deffinitely wanting. They have some nice qualities but really I was unhappy.I prefer Gaiam's videos. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrid!
Stilted instructor.Annoying music.*This* from the entertainment capital of the world? Why is this on DVD when it doesn't let me skip past all the annoying intros?Instructions are delivered separately from the exercises themselves, and after three of the exercises, I gave up and threw it away.I have taken several pilates classes over the years, and this one is awful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just asked my doctor
I bought this tape and was surprised to find that the majority of it took place while lying on one's back. I asked my doctor (this was in Spetember 2004) and she said I should DEFINITELY not use it. So I don't. What a waste of money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, calm workout
Ok. First of all, the routine is a little boring. So, if you are a fitness nut who used to doing Taebo and spinning, then you may fall asleep. But for most of us pregnant women, I think its great.

I could not believe how well this video works on the abs! I felt the burn immediately, and noticed that I was holding myself with better posture after the first workout. After having done the video only a few times, I can tell a difference already.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very useable video for a new mother
I love the way that this video is broken into 4 segments. It makes it possible for me to excercize regularly without feeling bad that I can not do an entire tape at one time.5-0 out of 5 stars Just wonderful
I really liked this video. It was a bit tough right after the baby was born. But it got better, because the video is set up for you to get stronger gradually. And contrary to the title, it helps strengthen your abs, legs, and buns! A good purchase. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Needs update
I am a longtime fan of Yoga Zone products, so when I received the pregnancy video, I was a bit disappointed to find that it wasn't to the caliber of the Yoga Zone Videos I am used to.It was obviously a low-budget film, and probably filmed some time in the early 80's (the gray headed yoga master Alan Finger actually has brown hair in this video!)in what looks to be the couples home.Having said this, the instruction on form is very good, as it always is with Yoga Zone, especially for 1st timers to yoga.Yoga Zone, please make an update!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great instructions
I used this DVD and ZenMama almost daily toward the end of my pregnany.Since I was new at yoga, it was really helpful to have Alan give specific directions about form.I know that practicing yoga helped me during delivery. For variety, I had ZenMama.I recommend this DVD highly.

1-0 out of 5 stars yadda yadda yadda
I had heard really good things about Yoga Zone, so it was with a high degree of anticipation that i popped the video to watch. The narrator blathers on and on, while his wife acts like a Stepford Wife, exclaiming as non-sequiturs how well she feels. When you're done with the tape the first thing you feel is mental fatigue. This video cannot be watched more than twice (I tried). He seems to be a nag and she seems to be brainless. ... Editorial Review

Instructor Lisa Stone developed this physically demanding buteasy-to-follow prenatal exercise program during her own pregnancies. Shebegins the 57-minute tape by going over the ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) safety guidelines in detail, and then begins the 44-minute workout with a warm-up filled with familiarsteps: step-touch, hamstring curls, grapevine. Stone's three 7-minute stepsegments are conducted with several other pregnant women in the background, including one in her ninth month who demonstrates versions of all theexercises without a step. The lower-body conditioning is done with the stepor a chair, and an exercise band would be helpful. She conducts the abdominalwork on the floor and includes Kegels and gluteal work, followed by cool-downstretches and relaxation. Stone's tape has a visual twist: instead of theusual sterile studio, she taped her workout in a huge room withhardwood floors and an enormous (unlit) fireplace. After the workout, thegroup gathers for a Q&A with an informative (if stiff and overrehearsed) ob-gynon the benefits and limitations of exercise during pregnancy. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars former Advanced Stepper - Very Good Workout
I am 27 weeeks pregnant.A former aerobics instructor who loved very advanced step routines. Now, several years later, I am having a great week when I exercise 3x a week. So, I am not in tip top shape, but good enough.
2-0 out of 5 stars Boring, poor sound , not for beginners.
This video is not for beginners I even tried modifying it myself but it didn't work. Lisa doesn't consider the fact that you are working mirrored to her wich makes it very difficult to keep up with. Also she looks very pregnant on the cover but in the video I don't even think she is. The sound was horrible and annoying her voice has this echoing sound that drove me nuts. I would recommend for everyone beg.to adv. the Kathy Smith Pregnancy Workout and Leisa Hart's Fitmamma both are way better. The only reason I gave this video two stars is because the lower body toning was great. And this might be good for advanced people.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but poor sound quality
I thought the workout was challenging and very adjustable, but the production quality was poor. The workout got my heart racing, and I was able to use this video through my second trimester. I also noticed that the instructor got off tempo at times. ... Read more

There's an expanding choice of pregnancy workout videos out there, and National Aerobics medalist Aileen Sheron offers this 64-minute tape for women with some dance experience who want to try some challenging steps. In other words, if anything more complicated than the grapevine trips you up, you'll want to look elsewhere. After a brief explanation of her credentials and the benefits and precautions of exercising while pregnant, Sheron launches into a 50-minute workout that includes two warm-up sections, three aerobic sets, three strengthening sections, and a warm-down stretch before her relaxation segment. Instead of floor work, Sheron demonstrates leg work and other resistance exercises using a chair and an exercise band, included with the video. Her aerobic sections involve combinations of several dance steps (Charleston, cross step, cha cha, etc.) and require more room than some exercise tapes do. (A small family room may not accommodate.) Sheron's strenuous workout is followed by her six-minute interview with a physician expert on prenatal exercise. In addition, a pamphlet detailing the recommendations of the American College of Obstreticians and Gynecologists and warnings on prenatal and postnatal exercise is enclosed with the video. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this workout! challenging yet fun and safe
I am an avid exerciser...I found this workout, fun , safe and even relaxing at the end. Its challenging and provides a great neck to toe (literally) workout. I will probably do the workout even after pregnancy.I love the band work and the relaxation segment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally--a challenging pregnancy workout
If you were a regular exerciser before getting pregnant and are looking to keep up the pace somewhat, this exercise video is a good place to start. It's not intense to the point of being dangerous, but it does keep you moving for a good while and help you work up a light sweat. The instructor tells you what to look out for in the beginning, but doesn't talk to you like you're a medical patient all the time, like in a lot of other pregnancy videos. There's a brisk warm-up and stretch in the beginning, then 3 fun sections of aerobics (I thought the moves were easy to catch onto after seeing the video 1 or 2 times), then leg work, arm work and abdominals with the elastic band. I didn't get bored, and I think this video is a great way to keep yourself in shape and flexible throughout your pregnancy. I really like it!

Editorial Review

New mothers with some advanced aerobics experience and a yen for achallenging workout will enjoy this offering from National Aerobics medalistAileen Sheron. Sheron loves constant modifications, rarely does the same steptwice in a row, and has a penchant for adding variations such as "funky shoulder"and "sassy hip." Her 42-minute workout begins with a warm-up beforelaunching into a series of alternating resistance and cardio sections. Theresistance training requires the included exercise band, and the cardio dancesrequire more space than most exercise videos, so stack the furnitureto the side. The floor work consists of abdominalexercises and warm-down stretches--much of it done while lying on stomach andback, forbidden pleasures during pregnancy. After a brief advertisement for Similac infant formula, Sheron concludes her 54-minute tape with a Q&A session with afemale physical therapist who comes armed with a pelvic floor model. Sheanswers questions about lower-back pain, foot swelling, and post-baby stomachflab. This thorough video should come with a warning: Don't let theimpossibly thin Sheron and her two svelte sidekicks be your yardsticks. Theirbabies were already 10 months old when they shot this video. 4-0 out of 5 stars This video works great for me
I only do the cardio portion however.I use Buns and Abs of Steel (Post-Pregnancy) for the floorwork.I really like the exercises even though they took a few times to get the hang of.I love the fact that there is no jumping around but lots of variation in steps to keep it interesting.I began using this video about 1.5 months after delivery and have been using it since (almost 4 months postpartum). It is not too hard and not too easy which was important for me because I didn't want to get discouraged and quit using it.I have always had a hard time being motivated to exercise at home--not with this video.I would like to see other videos by Aileen Sheron.

5-0 out of 5 stars great way to start after delivery
I have two kids one is 2yrs old and the second oneis 4 months old.I have followed the same workout both times and it is amazing how it works.I am already back to my prepregnancy weight. But i am not praising because i lost weight but because the way your fitness level increases and with one c-section i really needed that.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good workout - right away!
This video was safe enough to do within a week of having my third c-section.The exercises are modifiable, and so is the intensity. The wide, flat, resistance band included with the video is a little hard to get used to, but is definately effective. It is nice that women who have had c-sections are targeted during some areas of the video. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kathy smiths pregnancy work out
I love this video.I put on alot of wieght with my first child and I wanted to keep it down with this one, where we live you cant just take a walk and gyms are to exspencive.I was very nervous about doing a work out routine in my pregnancy because I had miscarried last year.My doctor recommended this video to me and I love it! It helps me sleep good at night and gives me energy during the day to be with my son.I break it into to parts. Its an awsome video I reccomend it to anyone who is looking for a stress relife and to help them feel better about themselves while being pregnant.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
I think this tape is pretty good. It gives you an all over workout and safty pointers so you dont over do it. I think the goofy blocks and bears are a little much, and I take time to get a drink during the Preggo Shuffle (a really bad rap song for testing your intensity level). But over all I fell like I get a work out, my heartrate gets to the level it is supposed to be at, and its keeping my shape good (in my legs, anyways!). Before my pregnancy I worked out 6 days a week for about an hour a day, so it's not quite what Im used to, but thats why its a pregnancy video. I like the Buns of Steele pregnancy workout a little better, its alot like this one but not goofy, I switch back and fourth between the two.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fitness Flashback
In search of an effective yet fun pregnancy video, I came across this one from 1989 (not 1993 as stated). The background music and some moves seem outdated. It is not as good as the more recently released Leisa Hart's Fit Mama video, but it has some merit. Here is a summary:Read more
