    Editorial Review

The best thing about this prenatal yoga program is that there is a modelfor each trimester. Instructor Shiva Rea demonstrates each of the stretches andexercises for the first trimester, and two pregnant women show modifications forthe second and third trimesters (they're even dressed in different colors foreasy reference). This removes the self-doubt home-exercisers often have aboutthe safety of certain moves--especially in that cumbersome final stage ofpregnancy. Using gentle voice-over instruction, Rea and her assistants takeviewers through a half hour of meditational stretches using blocks and chairsfor support. She follows that up with 16 minutes of floor work: lunge pose, bridge pose, child's pose, plank pose--all with the necessary adjustments. Shewinds things up with a four-minute guided relaxation on her back--thetraditional position--with the second-trimester woman on her side and the thirdon her side with one leg up on a chair. By including the different adaptations,Rea has made a program with the flexibility to carry an expectant mom through herentire pregnancy--and beyond, if she wishes. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I had a wonderful birth!
I used this DVD throughout all of my pregnancy and it was wonderful. It reall taught me to relax and breath. It also helped me stretch my body in ways that were healthy for me and my baby. I had a wonderful birth, naturally and without pain. I feel this DVD was responsible for much of my peaceful birthing experience.

I ordered this product when I was in the middle of my second trimester. I did yoga before my pregnancy but only occassionally. So, I'm not a big practitioner.
5-0 out of 5 stars Om in the Womb
Shiva Rea has an amazing ability to help you find peace and calm during this joyous and sometimes emotionally unstable time. The poses are gentle and flowing and offer a great way to maintain strength and flexibility throughout all three trimesters. I genuinely feel that I am doing something healthy and positive for the baby and me by working out to this video. I highly recommend this video to expecting mothers. I wish she had other pregnancy yoga DVD's!!!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment!
This video is poorly made. I am a daycare provider and I was excited when I saw this video came out. I brought and watched it first without the kids. I thought it was kinda weird. It has a LOT of filler than has nothing to do with potty training. Which would have been ok expect it's BORING. One spot is about were toilet paper comes from. I don't know any 2 or 3 yr old who cares. The potty training songs are not cute or catchy. There are some parts of this video that can gives kids bad ideas such as putting their hands down their pants, pouring milk and not holding the cup, and playing with toilet paper. There also was a LONG argument between Elmo and Prairie Dawn that was useless. I really discouragemy kids from having arguments. This video seem to be made for older kids than those who need to be potty trained. I have let my daycare kids watch this video. They are bored during the spots I was bored during and are not excited during the rest of the video. It's Potty Time ~ Duke Family Series is a much better video. This the video which train my daughter when she as 18 months and my daycare kids LOVE it. It does have some filler but my daycare kids LOVE it and cheer when I put it on. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting / Teachers & Students should see
I feel this program should be seen by teachers and students who themselves have a misunderstanding of what life is like for students who need extra help.We all learn differently, and whose place is it to judge others ? Bottom line is I have seen too many times, students who will not seek help, due to stigma placed on them by peers, teachers, and family.Maybe we have lost sight of education and its purpose ... isn't getting an education the goal ?Great program for classes who cannot understand we are all not the same, we are individuals, learn differently, etc.The goal I had when purchasing was to show students who are rude and or cruel to other students in hope they will will have no misunderstandings why we all need help.

5-0 out of 5 stars FOR ANY PARENT WHO'S CHILD HAS JUST BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH ADD OR ADHD ORANY PARENT SUSPECTING HIS CHILD HAS A LEARNINGDISABILITY
I'M A MOTHER OF A 7 YEAR OLD ADD DAUGHTER I LIVE IN CANCUN-MEXICO WHERE INFORMATION OTHER THAN PSICOLOGIST'S VIEW OF "THE PROBLEM" IS VERY HARD TO COME BY, MY DAUGHTER SPENT 3 YEARS IN OCUPATIONAL THERAPY AND EVERYWHERE I WENT I WAS TOLD TO MEDICATE HER, HOWEVER SOME INSTINCT TOLD ME NOT TO....IT DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SPEND A FORTUNE ON BOOKS LIKE I DID I'LL RECOMMEND 3 BOOKS THAT WILL GET YOU STARTED AND WELL ON YOUR WAY IN FINDING OUT WHAT'S GOING ON AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT AND HOW TO HELP; NO MORE RITALIN, NO MORE ADHD - RIGHT BRAINED CHILDREN IN A LEFT BRAINED WORLD - THE ADD AND ADHD DIET, UPDATED VERSION. GOOD LUCK, HELENA

5-0 out of 5 stars Misunderstood Minds
I teach high school and this video did a few things for me. First, it showed me the importance of elementary school teachers in pin pointing learning disabilities. Second, it is important for parents to explore different possibilities for why students aren't performing. I have an 8 yr old nephew who was just diagnosed with severe dislexia and the original prescription was drugs for ADD. Explore the possibilities! Third, the specific story of the teenager drove home the importance of having smaller classes in high school. I have 35 kids in each class. I know that for some, that is small. I have 6 classes. It is impossible for teachers, most of us wish we could, to be able to cater to the needs of each individual student. The video showed the importance of not only giving a correct diagnosis for a students problems, but the importance of following through and working with the student, so he or she can really succeed. The real stories showed the emotion that not only the students go through, but the families as well. It is a firm reminder that children need understanding, not labels. I recommend Misunderstood Minds. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Don't Know Why It Worked But It Worked
We started trying potty train my son when he turned two and things moved along slowly. After we got this video it was like we hit a switch. All of a sudden my son would run off to the bathroom anouncing his intent as he went.It is silly and simple, but he enjoyed watching it and obviously connected with the message.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring, Short and too graphic
First of all this video is too short, it shows the same thing over and over and it gets old really fast.Neither me or my son can stand to watch it more than a couple of times. The song is kind of catchy, but it gets old fast too.The potty does look different from any kinds I have seen as well.On another note, it shows it in his diaper when he has gone potty, I mean isn't that a little much?I think its just plain gross and my son probably didn't evenknow what it was supposed to be anyways.I know one of the reviewers said the kids looked too young but some of them looked too old too.I swear one of the kids in it looks like hes four.I wouldn't waste your money on this video, the repetetive nature of it bores the child too quickly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good video for starters
My son loves this video and watches it excessively. It does present the partsthe body involved in pottying, but how can you expect your kids to go if they don't understand how and why they go. It's a cartoon so it's not like its realistically graphic. The potty shown in the video is the older bowl style so you child might be confused by the newer models, but kids are smart. I'd say this would be rare. I'm only mentioning it as a warning, so you're prepared to have to hunt down a similar style potty. (The Baby Bjorn potty is the closest I found and my son associated the 2 right away by acting out part of the video when he saw the potty.) My only complaint really is that it doesn't detail what goes into learning how to use the potty. It just says "he sat and sat but nothing came out. Later he made poopoo and weewee but not exactly in the potty." (shows an accident on the floor) Then the mommy keeps changing a diaper and later he sat on the potty and was able to go in the potty. It's probably all kids need to know, but I was a little disappointed that it didn't really present all the practice and work that must be done before most kids go in the potty. Of course, this way it leaves it open for the different training methods. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Mary says, "Disappointing"
My daughter loved this video, but she never seemed to notice the children on the potty. She loved the clown at the birthday party.Birthday party?! What does a birthday party have to do with going potty? I have to admit that the birthday boy didn't go potty, but his sister Katie did. (Katie didn't use a potty chair or a potty seat. She looked about two years old and used the toilet.)Then, it showed Lizzie who was reading and going to the potty.Eww! I didn't like the three boys going to the potty scene.Disgusting! I'm Mary and I don't reccommend this!

1-0 out of 5 stars Old and out-dated
This tape was a total waste of time.Everything about this tape is out-dated. The year is currently 2006 not 1960.I was bored and my 20 month old daughter was bored and not interested.

My kids really did learn a lot from this movie, I would recommend it when your child is trying to learn to go on the potty.

3-0 out of 5 stars POTTY POWER KICKS THE POOP OUT OF THIS ONE!
Ok my kids love Bear however didn't really get into this DVD. "Potty Power" however they loved and watch over and over. Bear is a little slow to get to the songs and they aren't that great in my opinion. "Potty Power" however has very catchy songs and convinced my stubborn 3 year old to finally try to go potty! Hooray!

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves it...
My daughter loves this video. She does not otherwise watch this show "Bear In The Big Blue House" and was NOT familiar with any of the characters. That did not matter. I have also seen many of the other videos and books. This video did more to encourage her than any of the other videos. Encouragement was a huge part of the process and the video helped to keep her on track and to keep trying. For instruction, we used the video by Alona Frankel called "Once Upon a Potty". We HIGHLY recommend using her Once Upon a Potty potty chair. It is so easy and comfortable for the kids to get on and off. We have owned or seen probably all of the potties out there and this one is really NICE and one piece--it is the easiest to use and to clean. We only use it in her room at night, though since we quickly transitioned her during the day to the Baby Bjorn potty seat on the big potty. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Workout for Preggos
Of all the prenatal videos I bought, this was my absolute favorite. It makes you sweat and helps to stretch you out, but more importantly, it's fun. I have some other videos and they put me right to sleep. I love this video.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best labor and delivery prep
As someone who is of intermediate fitness level in the middle of my 2nd trimester, I was disappointed with the cardio (salsa) segment of this video.Maybe when I am deep in my 3rd trimester, this salsa dancing might be all I can handle. In the meantime, I will continue using Kathy Smith's Great Buns and Thighs Step workout for cardio (at beginner-level/low impact intensity), which I highly recommend.

I am on my second trimester and started doing the Fit Mama workout, it is the best I've tried so far.It is simple and easy to follow. The exercises are well-tailored to a pregnant body, and leave you feeling energized, but relaxed. The repetition of the exercises lets you truly focus and appreciate your changing body and its needs of the day.I give it an A+. ... Editorial Review

Prudence--the round-cheeked, pony-tailed heroine of Alona Frankel's book of the same name--can provide further inspiration to young daughters with her video adventure. As with her print counterpart, the animated Prudence wonders if her grandmother's gift could be a birdbath or a flowerpot before she settles down to the business at hand. Unlike the book, Prudence gets a grand introduction in the form of a music video of "The Potty Song," complete with toddlers frolicking among portable potties. A lyric sheet is included and moms will appreciate the equality mindedness of songwriter Art Frankel ("Wee-wee goes there / Poo-poo goes there / Then Daddy wipes behind me and that is that!"). The second half of this 24-minute video is a "Parent's Guide," in which a prominent pediatrician goes over the basics: signs of readiness, terms, methods, and expected ages (for example, girls usually train before boys, but don't force it). 5-0 out of 5 stars An effective little movie!
My little girl liked Prudence and the little potty chair. Yes, the potty chair doesn't look like the potty that everyone I know uses, but my two year old wasn't that analytical about the look of the potty. She knew what the little girl was trying to do- what she herself tried to do, and failed. When that little girl made the "poo poo" in the potty, my daughter went into the bathroom and sat and did it too. She must have thought that if SHE can do it, I can too.
1-0 out of 5 stars Great if you plan to use a chamber pot.
This DVD is weird. It looks like the little girl is peeing in a water pitcher. We sent it back along with the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A total Joy to Watch
This was a joy to watch. Just as fun as the book by the same author and same title. My 20 month old daughter is very excited every time I play this tape. She sings and dances along with the tape.I don't see yet how it will help me in teaching her to use the potty but it is fun to watch. It's called "the Mozart Effect," the notion that exposing youngsters tothe melodies of the maestro can improve verbal ability, spatial intelligence, creativity, and memory. 5-0 out of 5 stars love it!
I have bought several products by the Baby Einstein company, and my daughter (now 8 months) loves every single one! Especially the Baby Beethoven/Bach/Mozart DVDs are a hit. My only gripe about these DVDs is that you cannot skip the first chapters (warnings, advertising for Little Einsteins show, etc), but I've found that on my laptop I can skip through all of that, and it's even easier for my daughter to watch and focus on the screen than on our TV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Important Info That Doesn't Come With DVDs
Baby Mozart: Music Festival is an award winning DVD that introduces your baby to the classical music of Mozart with visually stimulating real-world objects on screen. Lots of moving and engaging visuals, mostly toys in motion, are designed to be simple enough to get your baby's attention while complex enough to hold it for a while. If your baby likes Baby Bach or Baby Beethoven (and very few babies don't) she'll like Baby Mozart as well. This DVD is appropriate for introduction to baby right from birth but will still hold her attention many, many months later.

The Baby Einstein Company's "video board books" were designed as music-focused developmental tools to stimulate babies' brains (prompted by researchproving that exposure to classical melodies can improve verbal ability, spatialintelligence, creativity, and memory in youngsters). Now the company isexpanding into other art forms, including color and art. The idea remains thesame--taking bold, beautiful objects (toys, puppets, nature scenes) and settingthem to fun renditions of classical music (their recordings are easily the bestin the crowded field of child development). A new puppet--Vincent Van Goat--introduces the six primary colors and associates them with Van Gogh'spaintings--"The Starry Night" for blue, "Wheat Fields with Reaper" for yellow. The only misstep is the poetry written and read by creator Julie Aigner-Clark, which is strongly reminiscent of Dr. Seuss's Read more

I can't believe he likes these being so young, but he does. At two months old, he loves the different colors and stares at the TV the whole time. This one is really good. I sit with him and guide him a little, but he seems to respond to the colors and the music.

We have quite the collection of Baby Einstein DVD's and this one does not disappoint. It has lots of puppets, which my 16 month LOVES.The only downfall is it is very short. . . .only about 25 minutes of actual video time. The newer Baby Einstein's are very disappointing. . . mostly animation which does not hold my little boy's attention.Van Gogh though has the original charm of the first Baby Einstein's.A great addition to your DVD collection.

If you've been around babies in the last few years, you've seen these newfangled toys that are abstract in color (or just black, white, and red) and make curious, crunching noises. 2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed with its Spanish sections
I am very interested in introducing my baby to foreign languages, so this DVD seemed like a perfect option to start with. I was dissapointed to discover that when it comes to Spanish, it lacks native speakers, and there are grammar errors!!...Furthermore, the nursery rhymes in Spanish are translated litteraly, and they just do not work. I can only wonder if the same is true about other languages.
5-0 out of 5 stars irritating- but he LOVES IT
my 11 month old LOVES this DVD and has since he was about 5 months old. it is his all time favorite- he can't turn his head from the TV when this is playing. some parts are annoying for the rest of us in the family, and my husband says this video is going to make him stupid(i disagree), the songs don't go with the pictures (i think, although i can't understand what is being said most of the time), but he seems to think he knows what's going on, and it keeps him happy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible-don't waste your money
This supposed 'language lab' is VERY poorly designed. The dvd consists of images of items with a nursery rhyme or poem being recited in another language. The amazing thing is that the item shown has no relation to the words being spoken! It might as well be completely random sounds, since anyone who has studied child language acquisition knows that babies learn from making observations of language used in context. While I understand that supposedly this DVD is only intended to 'stimulate' the brain, by six months, a baby's brain has developed specifically to hone in on the sounds presented in his own native language, and to selectively ignore others. The brain continues to prune and forge neural networks in response to sounds from the language spoken in the home, thus the idea that random speech sounds are somehow beneficially stiumlating is invalid. A baby's brain becomes stimulated by the sounds that appear repeatedly in his own language. Habituation and imaging studies have shown this time and time again. Imagine if the baby's brain gave equal attention to any sound--the brain would waste valuable time and resources on information that would not be useful in learning to communicate with his caretakers. We acquire langauge so rapidly because the brain is selective.

4-0 out of 5 stars Make sure this is the info you're looking for!
Video was very well done, however much of the focus was on the act of conception.I was expecting more on the development of the fetus, which felt crammed into the last portion of the video. However, it was a good way to get my non-reading husband a little more interested in the entire process (aside from making the baby, that is).

4-0 out of 5 stars Still an awesome educational journey
I saw this 15 years ago in my biology class and now that I'm 6 months pregnant, I was curious to see it again.Absolutely fascinating and rich in detail.I do wish they'd spent more time showing the fetus at the various ages--it stops at 18 weeks--but overall a highly educational and captivating journey.

3-0 out of 5 stars An incredible journey on video
[I wrote the following review for the second edition "Life's Greatest Miracle," but in the review I compare both editions, so I think you'll find my review helpful.]

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing workout
Hi everybody. I am almost 38 weeks pregnant now and I started working out with Kathy Smith's DVD since I was 16 weeks pregnant. I strongly recommend this workout for perople who might expect the outdated music and outfits, buying the workout from late 1980s.
5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it's a bit stuck in the 80's, but it's a GREAT video
    Hi,
3-0 out of 5 stars Totally CHEESY!!!
Kathy incorporates some good exercise moves for someone who is in average shape, but the workout outfits & her style is TOTALLY outdated! For someone in their 20's or even in their early 30's you might not be able to tolerate the CHEESINESS! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars irritating but effective
This video used to be the only one available for pregnant people. I have used it for three pregnancies, including my current one which is a twin pregnancy. The music is elevator Glori Estefan. Denise is a little too perky for the hormonal, the moves are dated and the costumes are ridiculous. That being said, it's great for begining exercisers or off days for those who are too tired for anything more intense. There are some weak toning exercises for the core and lower body after the 20 minute cardio segment. You could always put it on mute and listen to better music!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not if you're familiar with aerobics
This tape is ok for beginners (she takes time to explain proper positions, etc.) but I found it less than rewarding. Walking around while pumping your arms would have been as effective and cost much less!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good pregnancy and follow-up workout
I used this workout all through my pregnancy, clear up until a couple days before delivery. It was enough of a workout to get the blood pumping, but without raising my heart beat up past what doctors say is safe during pregnancy. Ask your doctor before doing the floor work portion of the workout in the last trimester though. This is a slower paced workout, but really helps keep problems like high blood pressure, weight gain and other pregnancy related problems to a minimum.

Billed as a "must see" for every parent and caregiver, this no-nonsensetutorial teaches step by step lifesaving techniques for use on infants and on children through age 8. In a calm, professional manner, Dr. Kathryn Moyerprovides basic information necessary to keep a child alive until emergencymedical help arrives. Part I covers CPR and choking techniques for infants, including how to perform back blows and chest thrusts and when to call 911. PartII details similar procedures for older children, and includes a thoroughexplanation of the Heimlich maneuver. To reinforce the lessons, material ispresented through spoken instruction, visual demonstrations on a dummy, andlastly, as text across the screen. While the concepts may be difficult to graspafter a single showing, it is an excellent tool when viewed regularly as arefresher course or in conjunction with a CPR class. 4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Choice
I bought this video along with the CPR video because I plan on doing some day care in my home and wanted to brush up on my skills. I have taken First Aid and CPR courses in the past but had forgotten a lot of things. The video was very helpful and covered many things. I had my two daughters watch the videos with me as they plan on starting to babysit soon and they thought it was very helpful. I would recommend this video to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars outstanding and informative
This video is a must! As a teacher and working with children daily this video is a lifesaver. One cannot be too prepared in case of an emergency and this video gives the foundation for unforseen situations and how to react correctly. I highly recommend this as a must have in your video library.

5-0 out of 5 stars EVERY PARENT NEEDS TO SEE THIS
We all want the best of everything for our kids, education, toys, etc.But if you don't know how to keep your child alive, none of it matters. You can't wait for paramedics. This is the one purchase every parent MUST make. It's the best demonstration of CPR I've ever seen.I didn't realize how much the guidelines have changed since my CPR course. This is very, very well done.Highly reccommended! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Instructor, Safe, Easy & Good Workout
I have always been active but have never exercised or weight trained prior to being diagnosed with osteopenia. One can feel confident that they are indeed helping their bones and not causing further injury to them with Mirabai Holland's expertise as an aerobics/exercise instructor and her many certifications. In addition, her voice is very nurturing and pleasant. I only wish that there were more of a variety of videos to choose from for people that are concerned with strengthening their bones.
5-0 out of 5 stars Top-Notch Workout for Bones
I'm a former gym junkie and lifted weights three times a week for years. I must say that Skeletal Fitness has completely replaced my lifting routine. I now have confidence that I'm doing everything to stave off osteoporosis for my entire body--including areas that my previous routine didn't address, such as the wrists. I would award the video 10 stars if I could--it's that good. Plus, Mirabei presents herself as the kind of instructor anyone would welcome into her home on a regular basis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video
I loved this video!!It is a balanced easy-to-follow workout for anyone with concerns about osteoporosis, or for anyone new to a fitness program. The instruction is one-on-one, making you feel like you are having a session with a personal trainer.Very little equipment is required.Mirabai Holland provides detailed direction on how to do each exercise, as well as explanations of what the exercise is intended to accomplish and why it is important. At the beginning and the end of the tape, there is lots of very valuable information on the causes, treatment and prevention of osteoporosis.A real winner!. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Helped me lose 65 pounds!
I have never given birth and I love this video!I used it when I first started out dieting and exercising 3 years ago.I could not complete the aerobics part, first starting out. Now, 65 pounds lighter, I do the aerobics part once, rewind and jog in place while rewinding, then do aerobics again. That makes it lasst 55 minutes, and gives 25 minutes of aerobics. It is perfect for when the weather is too bad for walking.
3-0 out of 5 stars Just okay...
I tried this workout after my 2nd child was born(who is now 2 yrs old). I purchased this for about $2 from an outlet store a couple weeks before I gave birth. I rate it as just okay. I prefer aerobics that are more athletic style than dancey (I have 2 left feet). So, if you are more inclined towards the dancey style aerobics go ahead and try it out for yourself.
5-0 out of 5 stars nothing unsafe about it!
I have had 2 kids plus 5 knee surgeries, 1 shoulder surgery and the ligaments in my hips are very loose.I never found this tape to hurt (other than the muscles I never knew I had) any part or be dangerous in anyway and I am not a graceful person.I lost 10lbs in 2 weeks and did not change my eating habits.I was working out 5-7 days a week.I love how she is very energetic and supportive. It made me not quit even though the first 2 or 3 times I was tripping over my own feet. The only downfall is my vcr quit and this tape I dont know if it comes in a dvd.Im hoping it will, it is about the only thing I have found that my body responds too. ...
