I Don't See Why People Like This
I'm sorry, but I really don't! It's a style called Celtic Drama, which means it's a combination of stories w/o words and traditional Irish Dancing.
A Dream Come True After Eurovision--"RIVERDANCE"
With tremendous applause and a standing ovation at the 1994 Eurovision's 7 minute intermission; Michael Flatley, Jean Butler, and an Irish troupe of dancers tapped their way into the record books. It was all that was talked about that night long ago. "Riverdance" was born soon after.
The Best of All the Riverdance Shows
I have seen this particular show several times on video that I rented a few years back. I have never been able to find it anywhere since, in any video store or anywhere else. I have also seen the other Riverdance shows done in New York and Geneva, but this show is by far, the BEST Riverdance show ever! The collaboration of the Riverdance Company, Bill Whelan, Michael Flatley and everyonelse that was involved in this show is just pure magic! As much as I have enjoyed seeing the other Riverdance shows and Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance -- there just seems to be something very special about this show! Patiently Waiting
I grew up watching moonwalk. I think it is one of the best films ever made. I am dying to obtain a copy to show my children what a real classic is all about. Please hurry!!!

I first watched Moonwalker when I was 8 years old and I have been hooked on it ever since!! How could they wait this long to release it on DVD? Moonwalker is evidence as to why America fell in love with Michael in the first place. Speed Demon, Bad, Dirty Diana- Moonwalker IS Michael Jackson.Please release it on DVD as soon as possible!!

Great dancing but NOT for children
I felt compelled to write this review for anyone who, like me, intended to purchase this for their children.It has many great scenes/stories that are fun for kids, but the last 1/4 of the film is extremely violent--machine guns, mobsters, shootings, child abduction, etc.This is unfortunate as this last segment contains some of the best dancing and choreography of the entire video. ... "The Alleycats Steal The Show"
Urgh as a whole is fairly good. Alot of good performances from bands like; X, Gang of Four, Pere Ubu, The Cramps, Devo, Gary Numan, and Au Pairs. However this movie could have been sooo much better. They left out alot, I mean alot of great bands that were around at that time. And they included alot of bands that were very insignifigant. However the performance from the Alleycats makes the whole movie very worth while. The first time I saw the Alleycats in this movie I had tears streaming down my face. It is so powerful. It's one of the greatest live performances I have ever seen. It's what music is all about. They give it all they got. Unfortunately there is only one Alleycats song in this movie. It's a revamped version of "Nothing Means Nothing". It still blows me away every time I see it. It's like they take all of their deepest emmotions and pour them on to the crowd of pogoing kids that get what they are doing. Powerful so powerful.

PLEASE Put This On DVD!
This is the coolest concert video I've ever seen. I've had the VHS version for years, but am afraid to play it too often for fear of wearing out the tape. It's chock-full of live performances from numerous punk and new-wave bands. Most performances are awesome, with only a few stinkers. What great bands! The Police, Dead Kennedys, Oingo Boingo, XTC, Go-Go's, Wall Of Voodoo, Devo, Joan Jett, and much more. A virtual endless parade of wonderful late 70's and early 80's music. This is an extremely important historical document. For example, to my knowledge it is the only place you can see the Go-Go's original bass player on video. I don't understand how this amazing video has been allowed to sink into obscurity. Someone in the recording industry needs to get their act together and put this on DVD. I don't care if they charge $250.00 for the DVD, I would buy it! IT'S THAT GOOD!

Interesting to note...
It's symptomatic of middle-age, I suppose, to reflect warmly on "the good old days", and even though I never wanted to fall into that syndrome, seeing "Help" has done exactly that for me. I was a Freshman in college when the movie was released, and so it was a movie for the millions of Boomers like me, in that bizarre, wonderful time that was the mid-1960's in America.
YAY!! :D
This was the best movie that the beatles did it was funny and had a bit more of a plot this time. 'in the weeks that followed five more attemts were made to steal the ring.' Quite frankly my favorite attemt was number four he,he. But in 'another girl' we can only wish that Paul would wear that tshirt more often. and my stepsister finally realized that there are more rasons to like the beatles than their music. That is before John turned into mountain man\amish terrorist anyway.
Please restore "Help!" for DVD
Though not the landmark that "A Hard Day's Night" was, this film is still a lot of fun, and for current and future generations shows how the Beatles looked and behaved in 1965, in full color (in fact, the color cinematography is striking throughout--should have been nominated for an Oscar).

Several Moments to remember.
This is the earliest movie rendering of the Chopin/Sand affair I have seen to date. However, in this, Sand is more of an impediment to what Chopin must do--raise funds for his Polish rebel friends.This is something that has been neglected to a degree, in the other two movies I have seen on this subject (Impromptu, Desire for Love). Both acknowledge his Polish-ness and one does even show his rushed departure from his beloved homeland.
A SONG THAT I'LL CERTAINLY ALWAYS REMEMBER
A few days ago, thanks to Amazon and a kind gentleman named Ernest who had one to sell, I FINALLY became the proud owner of A Song to Remember on VHS - a little more than 56 years after I saw the actual movie. They say if something's good enough to want, it's good enough to wait for, and this is certainly true where this sublime movie and most treasured memory of my childhood is concerned.In 1946, at the age of 9, my well meaning parents (back home in Wales, U.K.) took me to see this movie, without telling me that their main reason was 'the hope that it would encourage me to put more effort in to my piano lessons'.To their dismay, they soon discovered that, in that respect, they had failed miserably because - after seeing this movie and being introduced to the life and beautiful music of Frederic Chopin, through the incredible combination of Cornel Wilde's good looks (and excellent acting) and the superb performance of the music itself by Jose Iturbi, I promptly came to the conclusion that if I couldn't play that well, then I didn't want to play at all. Not long afterwards, my long suffering piano teacher was relieved (in every sense of the word) of her duties.But from the moment I sat enraptured through that movie, I fell in love with Chopin and his music and made the vow that 'when I grow up, I'm going to go to Poland and listen to a Chopin recital in the country where it all began'.More than forty years later (and having moved to Canada in the meantime) I achieved that ambition and what a joy it was to hear this wonderful music played by a leading exponent of Chopin's music from the Warsaw Conservatory.My other ambition was to somehow 'acquire' this memorable movie for myself.But I found that to be easier said than done, as all my enquiries came up with an 'out of print' response. Then just over a week ago, I saw that Amazon did indeed have one for sale - 'used'. I knew it was a risk to fork out money for a product that I couldn't even be sure was in great condition.But I wanted this movie so much, that I 'boughtit' immediately, before anyone else could pounce on it.My movie arrived a few days later, just in time for it to be 'a special birthday gift to myself'.Today was my birthday and one of the biggest treats of my day was to curl up in comfort and watch A Song to Remember in my own home at long last.Oh what memories watching it brought back, and what joy is gave me to finally have this wonderful movie in my possession to play and watch for ever more. I am also happy to say that this 'used' tape turned out to be in superb condition, with its picture and sound as good as new.This is one happy movie owner and my thanks to Amazon and Ernest for finally making it possible for me to fulfil a lifelong dream. It means more to me than you would ever imagine!A Song to Remember made it a Birthday to Remember too!!

I believe that the film is great but the vhs is terrible.
I ordered this film vhs hoping to enjoy it. I am very dissapointed as the film must be ruined. It made all sorts of noises that you could not either hear the arias or dialogue. I'm sorry that I received a damaged film.

Nice Adaptation
I was impressed that they actually performed this to be video taped and took advantage of the video options like zoom.No one jumps like Baryshnikov.It's magical.

Nutcracker has a clear sexual theme to it
Rss22 is apparently disturbed by the sexual theme present in this version of the Nutcracker. However, it is essential to the ballet. In short, the Nutcracker is about a young girl becoming a woman and the sexual conflicts involved. Her dream is clearly sexual. She fights off the mice who represent her "dirty" sexual impulses and lascivious temptations including that of being "conquered" by the Mouse King. Finally, with the arrival of the Nutcracker Prince and his help, she is able to sublimate these impulses into a mature love for a protector who marries her (the Nutcracker prince) and who makes an "honest woman" of her. Proper versions of the ballet always have the Christmas tree swell and rise to gargantuan size, like the big phallis it represents. Ballets that fail to do this indicate a lack of understanding of what the ballet is all about. However, children can enjoy it without necessarily having the sexual meanings made explicit to them. Schmaltz Fest
Unfortunately, this 30's schmaltz-fest seems pretty dated by now.I guess the Depression-era audiences needed some fluff A FANTASIA ON STRAUSS.
The highly fictionalized fantasia on the life of the great Johann Strauss. This 1938 film is a sacher torte of pleasure for anyone who loves his music and, in the lead, Fernand Gravet does a commendable job acting-wise. The very attractive - albeit large-boned - Polish soprano Miliza Korjus sings with a truly brilliant voice & she became the object of intense jealousy from M-G-M's reigning diva, Jeanette MacDonald! Because it was decided that there wasn't room for two Prima Donnas at the studio, the firmly established MacDonald was kept on the payroll while the European Korjus virtually went into American obscurity. Backgrounds for the film were shot in Chino, California. It is rumoured that portions of this underrated gem was indeed directed by Josef Von Sternberg.

Hollywood operetta at its best
Take the story of a man torn between two women, add the music of Johann Strauss and the scenery of 1840's Vienna and you have The Great Waltz, an irresistible cream puff of a movie.Miliza Korjus-rhymes with gorgeous and she is-portrays the fictional opera singer Carla Doner in a delicious performance that verges on May West camp, murmuring most of her lines through a perpetual full-toothed grin and waltzing herself giddy while singing absolutely impossible sounding obliggatoes to Strauss's walzes-never loosing a beat and never out of breath!Luise Rainer's innate sweetness and vulnerability are perfect for Poldi, Strauss's devoted wife.Watch her silent reaction when she realizes that the song she thought he wrote for her was actually intended for Madame Doner-incredible acting.On the other hand, Fernand Gravet, as Strauss, is unexceptional and a bit bland.Among the excellent supporting cast, Hugh Herbert as the befuddled music publisher and Curt Bois as the comic, but wise violinist are outstanding.The movie does require a temporary suspension of belief.It is full of improbabilities, including the all-female orchestra that performs Tales of the Vienna Woods in a biergarten--wearing evening gowns, Madam Doner's apparent ability to glance at a piece of music once and perform it word and note perfect (the citizens of Vienna take this one step further by singing along even though the waltzes in question have yet to be published!), and the most peculiar version of Die Fledermaus ever performed. If you are looking for historical accuracy or musical purity, this is not your movie, but if you want a delightful Hollywood operetta, you can't do much better than The Great Waltz. ... Read more

mad season...
Just because you don't buy VHS anymore and don't own a VCR doesn't mean no one else does either. Mad Season is an incredibly underrated band, true talent ignored by those with the power to promote the band and build its fanbase because in today's world true talent does not amount to much to most people if there is no money to be made off of it. If you want to know why this hasn't been released on DVD yet, you might want to ask the head of Sony/Columbia why money is king and why they so heavily promote other crap that no one with any taste is interested in for the purpose of making money and getting rich, rather than doing their jobs and focusing on the real talent of the music industry. You might want to ask them why they have become such a gigantic rubber stamp of approval for people such as any talentless jackass who decides to go sing on american idol and goes on to sell tens of millions of records for no good reason. Ask them they promote some of the worst music ever recorded and completely ignore the little bit of talent that still remains on their label. Then and only then will you know why talented bands such as Mad Season have been ignored and placed on the back burner for so long.

This DVD Saved Our Christmas!
Our daughter (13 months) loves this DVD to the point of obsession. Don't think about this as education - this is pure escape fantasy. Nothing else - not Baby Einstein, not Barney - keeps her rapt attention like this DVD. Pop this in when you need a break or are cleaning up after a day of playtime. You won't be disappointed.

Great Wiggles DVD!
I highly recommend getting this one!They have a lot of different child friendly Christmas songs as well as the traditional wordy ones that are staples of the Christmas season.My daughter and step son LOVE this DVD!The dances are fun and energetic too!There are also some speaking parts too that are kinda neat!I definately recommend this for any Wiggles fan collection :)

This is a really good Xmas video, you can't go wrong with the Wiggles.I should know--my daughter (almost 2) watches this thing every 2 hours.Lots of good Christmas songs, and they switch it up with slow stuff and fast party jams.They even get down on the beach with the infamous Captain FeatherSword.Lots of performances with kids taking center stage.Doesn't run too long either.Good choice for the kids and for wiggles fans worldwide. ... Simon Kieth's popular comic book was adapted for television in this multipart animated series first broadcast on MTV. A little confusing, the series--which concerns a kind of hulking superhero and his attachment to a female therapist and her teenage client--is actually mesmerizing and surprisingly touching. The writing is unusually sophisticated, and Kieth's ability to create complex female characters and provide their incisive dialogue should be the envy of any male scribe. Parallel action set in a so-called outback--an escape from reality--is wild and evocative of childhood fantasies. This is a strangely beautiful show all around. Read more

Is this all of "The Maxx" ?
I recently found my VHS tape of this series & wondered if there was a DVD version available, no such luck! This was perhaps the best thing to come from MTV in the 90's, only to disappear into obscurity.

This is not a review per se (the series is great) but I wanted to let those interested know that all the episodes- unedited- can be seen at youtube.com. Until the series is released unabridged on DVD , which seems unlikely, that's the only way I know of to see it in its original form.

I hope The Maxx gets released on DVD.
I don't have this retail version of the show, but I do have the original episodes that I recorded from MTV Oddities in 1995.I think the show and the original comic book are excellent!I pulled them out and watched them for the first time in over 5 years.I wish there was some way to get this released on DVD. ... Cute movie!
I love this movie! But I Can't hear Minty cry in A Very Minty
My daughter loves this movie
We had originally taped "A Very Minty Christmas" for my daughter and she had watched it many times until it accidentally got erased so we bought the DVD. She loves the ponies and she loves this movie whether it's the Christmas season or not.

Great for the babies
My kids have this video and they love it.Especially my daughter.My son still hides away in his bedroom to watch it.Everyone is right about it being one little Christmas episode but it's cute.The only thing I didn't care much for was how Howie Dorough of the Backstreet Boys portrayed Santa Claus.He used the stereotypical "mexican" slang accent and as the mother of half hispanic children, I found it almost offensive.Even my son pointed out that Mexicans don't talk like that.

Our 2 year old absolutely adores Dora.This Christmas DVD is her favorite and she watches it over and over again all year round.We love the fact that Dora is a positive cartoon female role model for our daughter.

Since this DVD shows a Christnas themed picture on the cover it would have been great to have 4 Christmas themed episodes.All the episodes on this DVD(including the one Christmas episode) have been shown on the Dora TV series.We all know that Dora has a baby brother and sister but since they were first introduced this spring they have only been in 3-4 episodes.The Dora series needs to have some new life breathed into it.Even my 27 month granddaughter is beginning to tire of the same episodes being shown constantly. ... Suberb production poor transfer to tape
This production features the talents of some superb singers who can act well.The outdoor scenes were filmed in the Middle East and are very authentic.The indoor scenes look like a poor persons house.The kings are very resplendent and resemble a renaissance painting.The singing is excellent.Teresa Stratis shows emotion both vocally and visually.
GREAT opera, so-so production
As a lifelong fan of Amahl and Menotti alike, I wish I could say that this is the greatest opera video on earth.Sadly, there are sound and visual quality issues that make this production a disappointment, despite the appearance of the lovely Teresa Stratas.

I purchsed this video a few years ago and was also very disappointed. I have nothing more to add to the other reviews posted here; just to agree that the sound was poor and the viewing quite fuzzy. I remember watching not only the first broadcast on NBC but several broadcasts years after that, with different casts. It was and still is my favorite Christmas story. Patti Takes Over
I've most enjoyed the parts with Patti Labelle singing two songs with The New Jersey Mass Choir.I really liked when Dianna Ross asked for somebody to help her sing and the end of the show and Patti Labelle was more than glad to do so.

Not just music................but music history!
I had the pleasure of watching this incredible program when it originally aired on NBC (May 16, 1983). Like cheese and fine wine, it gets better with age. Great sets by Stevie Wonder, Four Tops/Temptations, Lionel Richie and the original Jackson Five/Michael Jackson.
OMG!!!! No other words needed!
I am only 21 years old.I was born the year this was aired on tv and saw it at least 7-10 years later.From that day on I was a Motown music fanatic!!!!!!!I also became a Michael fan that day.Even though Motown was no longer the major hit producer that it once was, it was wonderful to see all those veteran acts perform on one stage.The production of this show...the sheer magic of the event could be felt throught the tv screen!I really want to buy this on DVD!!!!I must keep this and pass it on to my children! ... So Why Isn't This Available on DVD?
This movie is an all time great and is particularly needed in this time of war and trial of the national soul.Surely Hollywood politics is not keeping this from the public, is it?

Now more than ever...
This is the kind of movie that stirs my deepest emotions for this country,when you hear these marches being played,I get goose pimples(honestly),and can't help it but to start singing along,the story is very true of the man that composed them,now more than ever we should remember to sing them once in a while,to remind us of how great our country is,in an era in which some people are trying to divide us whether to do our duty or not as the defenders of democracy,it is always good to remember that in past wars our soldiers marched to the battlefield to the tune of these songs,and many of them offered the ultimate sacrifice,if we would have laid back then,and let our enemies overtake us,today we probably would be speaking a different language.

John Philip Sousa Fantasia
This is an amusing little yarn on Sousa and his music.Being only about 90 minutes long the movie does not attempt to be comprehensive with his life, but concentrates instead on creating a portrait of him.Clifton Webb has Sousa's somewhat stiff, yet humorous personality down pretty well.The episodes depicted in the movie are brief vignettes, loosely based on some actual events.The Marine Corps probably did treat their March King in a rather off-hand manner as shown in the movie.Sousa did make the Marine Band from a 3rd rate emsemble into one of the best military bands in the country, and the Marines could not really offer him anymore than what they had already given him.
