Editorial Review

Belly dancers are known for their ability to isolate and move one body part at a time. This video helps you tone arms and abs by learning isolations that target just those muscles. The arm routine uses smooth, flowing movements that complement the accompanying hip moves. Special motions of the wrists and fingers make the moves look dramatic and fluid, sometimes snakelike. Meanwhile, you're working your abdominals by lifting, shifting, and circling your ribcage. This video, more than the others in this series, makes you feel and look like a belly dancer. For example, you do "Egyptian arms" (picture yourself balancing a dinner tray on each hand, elbows at shoulder height, flexed wrists at ear height, fingertips away) while lifting and shifting your ribcage from side to side. The 30-minute workout includes some difficult abdominal moves done on the floor, body weight resting on feet and arms, torso lifted. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Unique upper body toning routine
Bellydance Fitness Arms and Abs is designed to tone your upper body using bellydance-inspired movements. In the first half of the workout, you will do a variety of arm movements, most of which require you to hold the arms at shoulder level or above. Although the voiceover instruction suggests that these moves will tone your biceps and triceps, I felt them mostly in my shoulders, which quickly became fatigued. Eventually, you move on to working the chest and ribs, mainly through isolation movements. The final ten minutes of this workout are performed on the floor. You'll start with several non-traditional abs exercises--eg, leg lifts while propped on your elbows--and then you'll work on more traditional crunches. The workout finishes with several yoga-inspired stretches, and the total time comes in at about 28 minutes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Oh, my poor arms...
I barely made it through the warm-up, so I know this one is good.My arms and abs are probably the weakest parts of my body, so I was drawn to this video by its title.Veena and Neena aren't nearly as annoying as some exercise video instructors, and they make it all look so effortless.I'll definitely be working out to this video for a while, until I can make it through the whole thing.Fun and a great workout, which is what I've been looking for. After this I'll buy anything Veena and Neena put out.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Tool forSpeech and Language Development
My 18 month loves this video and asks for it by name (/babi/ /baebo/).He loves to imitate the sounds, facial expressions, and words in the video.I can't tell you how much he has picked up from this video!I am an early childhood speech-language pathologist and I bought this video to recommend to my clients.I love the vocabulary and speech models that it offers.I use alot of the same techniques and toys when I work with my clients.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beatles Hit the Road With Aunt Jessica And Friends
I like the eleven Beatles music scenes that are essentially pre-MTV music videos. Unfortunately, the remainder of the program, which mainly features "Aunt Jessica", will give you nightmares. They should have provided an option to play only the Beatles music scenes.

5-0 out of 5 stars you will love it if your a true beatles fan
the magical mystery tour is amazing the beatles are psycadelic masterminds obviously you dont watch the movie how its supoused to be watched...on drugs.thats how they ment it to be watched i love the movie it is really trippy and i think its trippyier than yellow sub. but dont get me wrong the yellow sub has a plot and a good story line and is a better all around movie.but if your watching it for how it was sposed to be watched youd like m.m.t

3-0 out of 5 stars "Take a guess!"
"Magical Mystery Tour" is a 50 minute or so TV special that the Beatles shot and directed in 1967, and originally was shown on Boxing Day in that year in England. John, Paul, George, Ringo and his aunt take a tourist bus around England, a ride where anything can happen, and some of that anything does. The many adventures they have include a foot and car race, watching a movie in a tent bigger on the inside than the outside, a stripshow, and a singalong on the accordion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trippy...
A few years before this movie came out, a movie called "Tommy" came out. This movie took the concept album of The Who's "Tommy" and transferred it to the big-screen, using only music and absolutely no dialogue to further the story along. I never turn off a movie, no matter how bad I think it is. Except "Tommy." In reality, the film wasn't bad...It just annoyed me. There was a huge lack of entertainment going on. I wasn't expecting much from The Wall, but I've heard so many good things about it. I had to see it. Let me say, I haven't heard a lot of Pink Floyd stuff. I've only listened to four albums (Umma Gumma, Dark Side of the Moon, Atom Heart Mother, and Wish You Were Here). Yes, that's right. I haven't even heard The Wall album. This film is simalar to Tommy in the fact that Pink Floyd's music plays throughout the film. The difference is, there is some dialogue in the film although it doesn't move the plot along at all. The other difference is, this film has amazing visuals and is fun to watch. The movie's plot is basically a rock star named Pink (Bob Geldof) sits watching a war movie and begins to remember his childhood. Blended in is memories, fantasies, and a bunch of other [...] that results in one trippy movie to watch. But, as I said, the visuals are what keep you watching. The movie's metaphors (especially the title one) are very smart, the script is by Roger Waters (although I don't know how a person could write a script like this). If you're a Floyd fan/arty kinds of films, check this out for sure. All movies, in my opinion, are forms of art...But this film is actually like a work of art. Anyway, if you're just a moviegoer looking for some entertainment on a Saturday night...This isn't the movie for you.

Great Movie ! Can't argue that but the DVD lets it down a bit. The menu items do not work properly unless the dvd i bought is faulty? Nice cover though.

4-0 out of 5 stars A cheap price to pay for memories
Staying over at my house in high school almost always meant The Wall would make its way to the VCR. Not only because it was a great movie, but also because it had been stolen from every video store in town. By the time I was out of high school, the tape was literally worn out, and the weekly viewings had ceased.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you liked the Play, you'll love the Concert!!
This was an all star performance of the first order. The settting in the Royal Theater, the scale and depth of the ensemble cast is simply mind blowing. With regard to the role of Eponine by Lea Salonga. Ms. Salonga is fantastic in the role of Eponine. Eponine is a tragic person, she is the virtuous one in a family of thieves, she is street smart yet vulnerable. And she should be angry since he father was going to marry her off to a member of his gang (A drunken thug). Eponine runs away from her family and is rescued by Marius with whom she falls in love only to have him fall in love with another. In Lea Salonga's Eponine I see all those elements brought together in a way that is touching and heartbreaking. Just listening to her and Michael Ball in "A little fall of rain" was the highlight of this concert to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than ever
I've had this musical on vhs (taped off public tv) for years and have always found it exhilarating. I decided to get the DVD because my tape was wearing out! :-)This musical cannot compare to anything else (except maybe seeing the musical in person). Among others, Colm Wilkinson and Michael Ball are excellent). It's an emotionally charged presentation!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
If you have seen the musical, this is the perfect DVD to bring back the memory.Although no replacement for the stage show, it is far better than listening to a CD.The performers are in costume and very much in charater even though singing in concert. There are some video clips of the actual musical inserted during the concert that helps you keep your time frame. It goes without saying that the "dream cast" gives a great performance.Next best thing to being there. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Real Al Jolson
I first saw this movie over 40 years ago when I was 12 on TV at my aunts house, and it was a magical experience I will never forget. When I recently watched the DVD release, the movie still had all the elements that made such an impression on me many years ago. Everyone who has commented have stated that Jolson did the actual singing for the film, but this is not mentioned in any of the credits. Why was this? When originally released, did the studio try to make everyone believe that Parks was doing a good imiation of Jolson?I thought there might be something at the end of the movie, but the DVD version abruptly ends as soon as THE END fades from the screen. It would have been nice if the DVD had included a short segment addressing how the movie was made with Jolson's real recordings.

4-0 out of 5 stars let him sing & he's happy!happy!!!
a fun and completely inaccurate film bio of the man who was regarded as the greatest entertainer of the first half of the 20th century, yet is mostly forgotten today?why?well, jolsons greatness seems to have been on stage; his movies (save for "hallelujah im a bum") dont hold up well.but im willing to take the word of the likes of judy garland, jack benny, george burns, et al, who unflinchingly state jolson was far and away the best.this cleaned up movie stars larry parks, but in actuality stars jolsons vocals.the same ploy was used in the recent biopic "ray", which was "honest" about the life of its subject; of course it was also a dull mess of a movie when compared with this top-notch biopic.

1-0 out of 5 stars 20th Century Ripoff!!!
I specifically waited to buy this on DVD hoping to get a Todd-AO version and not just the Cinemascope version. The freaking Laserdisc looks better than this!I, for one, will not be buying any more "special editions" without reading the reviews in Amazon or elsewhere when it comes to 20th Century ripoff. This release reminds me of all the 20Th Laserdiscs that were first released when laser was just starting out and how poorly the transfers were treated...now it seems we're right back to the good old bad transfer days of yore.Yuk, I recommend that no one buy ANY of their discs (especially the upcoming crappy versions of STAR WARS non-anamorphic, non-5.1 sound original movies). These people suck big time!
5-0 out of 5 stars great
A true musical theater classic.Wonderful melodies that will last for years to come.
1-0 out of 5 stars Visual diappointment for a great format
Like several others, I agree that the Cinemascope version was well presented, but what a disappointment as far as the Todd-ao digital transfer! The original release I bought in 1999 gives a much clearer and brighter Todd-ao version that gives you a much better idea of what the original may have looked like. I enjoyed seeing "The Miracle of Todd-ao" again, but similarly the realism that was present in the original was lost, either due to poor quality of stock or inabilty to be able to digitally correct and sharpen the image. (I find it hard to imagine that Fox couldn't resore it better). There was an apology printed on our Region 4 version.

The off-Broadway comedy-horror-musical hit that ran for years makes a successful transfer to film with a bevy of big-name cameos and two perfectly cast leads. Rick Moranis is the nebbish Seymour, who pines for flower-girl Audrey (Ellen Greene) while living in the basement of florist Mr. Mushnik (Vincent Gardenia). Things start turning around for Seymour, though, after he buys a little plant during a solar eclipse, christens it Audrey II, and discovers that it likes to drink blood. Soon enough, though, Seymour finds out that Audrey II, now grown to epic proportions, is in actuality a "mean green mother from outer space" that is hell-bent on world domination. 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I knew nothing of Little Shop of Horrors before I bought the DVD, except that it was a musical. I'm very happy that I bought it. It's one of my favorite musicals now. The hit off-broadway musical was a success in its transition to film. The special effects of Audrey II were also amazing and very life-like (especially for the 80s). And of course the acting and the music was amazing. Rick Moranis did a great job, and seems to have been made for this role.

5-0 out of 5 stars "I'm a mean, green mutha from outer space!"
This movie is freakin' WEIRD! Thankfully, I like weird. For the uninitiated, this is a musical about a man-eating plant (voiced by Levi Stubbs of The Four Tops). It must be seen to be believed. Our hero, Seymour, discovers a never-before-seen plant, naming it Audrey II (after his coworker and love interest, Audrey). Turns out, the plant eats humans, as he learns when it drinks his blood. At first, Seymour befriends the plant, who helps him get around Audrey's boy friend, a sadistic dentist (the song about him and pseudo-S&M scene that result are freakin' hilarious!) Eventually, things get out of hand - the plant's uniqueness earns Seymour much fame, even though nobody is aware of the plant's dangers. When the plant eats Seymour's boss, things get out-of-hand, and the final battle between the two is hilarious also - Levi Stubbs offers his amazing pipes, declaring "I'm a mean, green mutha from outer space!" - one of my favorite movie quotes. This movie is a real side-splitter, and must be seen!

5-0 out of 5 stars just great fun
Rick Moranis is adoreable, Steve Martin is appropriately sleazy, and Ellen Greene is a most unlikely heroine.Taken as a whole, this movie is wonderful...charming even.A definite must have for anyone who enjoys all things quirky but sweet. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars OH MY.....
It's not entirely fair to completely write these videos off as juvenile, inane, trite and garish. They are all those things and more. Amatuerish is the one word that immediately comes to mind. Then again, most ALL videos from the very early 1980's are. I had this VHS when I was in high school and watched it religiously, never knowing how bad they really were. Curiousity got the best of me and I pulled this out of the back of the video rack and watched it last night. Boy, are these videos bad. But as a historical document of the only electronic pop band that matters, it does hold a certain fascination, especially for longtime fans. I then wondered why Depeche Mode do not have a complete video history on one DVD set. They have, after all, been around for almost 25 years and have literally dozens of singles and videos. One look at thepromotional video for "Get the Balance Right" ( I caught that one on VH1 Classic's "We Are the Eighties" last night, which made me curious enough tofind said video cassette) makes me understand why. Depeche Mode members are on record as saying they are terribly embaressed by most of their early videos andI can assure you they have every right to be. I'd keep 'em under lock and key too.

5-0 out of 5 stars hard to resist
Despite the fact I'm a diehard Depeche Mode fan, I was too young to remember most of the band's earlier work. So I got a really big kick out of watching most of these music videos for the first time. I'll admit they're not as high quality as the later videos like "Personal Jesus" and "Barrel Of A Gun," but they really strengthen their fan base. If you've got to insult this collection of videos, then you weren't much of a Depeche Mode fan in the first place. Accept these videos for what they are..."beginnings."

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing wrong with the early videos
The less developed mind may not understand the charm of the band's earliest videos, but the ones found on these collection are more compelling than the videos from Music for The Masses and Violator in my opinion. The low budget quality adds a depth the later polished vids lack. I loved Everything Counts, the way Dave jolts around singing facing away with the camera posed above him.Just Can't Get Enough is kind of hilarious because of the way the band is dressed, but damn it if it aint a fun video! Teenagers in the eighties really had a blast with this stuff. It's too bad videos are so uber- perfect and stylized today.I always prefer the earlier vids of bands like INXS and Depeche Mode and so on. They are flawed perfection. ... Read more

Female boomers should recall yearly TV reruns of this Rodgers and Hammerstein production, featuring such delights as "Impossible" and "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?" ...I picked up this tape along with a stack of others at an auction.I bid on the stack of tapes accidentally, thinking I was bidding on something else. But every cloud has a silver lining. (Or for the pessimists out there, every silver lining has a cloud.)
2-0 out of 5 stars Wow, in a Bad Way
This production of Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella is cringeworthy at best.I understand this was a television movie, but they couldn't at least choose good actors and provide a better set?Cinderella acts and sounds like a complete ditz, all starry-eyed and breathless voice. It's partly the fault of the camera-work though.Every 10 seconds and it's an extreme close-up of Cinderella's face. It's frightening.I love the music and this musical, but if it's not well-acted or well-sung, it's not enjoyable for me.I've only heard the Julie Andrews version in soundtrack form, and already that one is 100X better. There's none of the pleasant, exciting, and lovely performances of the original cast. This version has no energy. The exception is the Prince and his parents the King and Queen; they weren't bad.But the rest of the show is the epitome of cheesiness - which could have been avoided if feeling and energy were put into the performances, even despite the terrible sets.

3-0 out of 5 stars An interesting alternative if you've seen "White Christmas" too often...
If your holiday film viewing includes the movie "White Christmas," then you may enjoy this classic where the song "White Christmas" actually made its debut. The plot is a flimsy excuse for showcasing numerous Irving Berlin songs (many of them very forgettable) and a few Fred Astaire numbers, including the famous drunk dance in which he was, in fact, none too sober.

Most of the reviewers for this movie do a fine job of giving an accurate description of the plot of the film - it's lightweight, enjoyable holiday fare and Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas' alone is worth the price of admission. The focus of my review is essentially on the 'Abraham' musical number where all of the white performers are in 'blackface.'
5-0 out of 5 stars Crosby's Voice + Astaire's Feet = Magic!
HOLIDAY INN captures Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire together and at their peaks, competing for the affections of one girl, Linda Mason (played by Marjorie Reynolds).Jim Hardy (Crosby) has grown tired of performing in New York nightclubs and decides to open Holiday Inn, a resort for dinner and dancing that is open on holidays only.Jim's friend and co-star Ted Hanover (Astaire), a regular ladies' man, pursues Linda to the inn after his own fiance and dancing partner, Lila (Virginia Dale), leaves him.The movie's very first number, "I'll Capture Her Heart with My Singing (Dancing)," sums up the contrasting charms of Jim (the crooner) and Ted (the dancer).Apart from this number (which is reprised at the end of the movie, after Jim has won Linda) and Ted and Lila's "You're Easy to Dance With," Irving Berlin's tuneful score is holiday-themed and includes "Be Careful, It's My Heart" (for Valentine's Day), "Easter Parade," and "I'm Singing a Song of Freedom" (for Independence Day)."Abraham" (for Lincoln's Birthday) is a good song somewhat disconcertingly performed in "blackface" - clearly a custom of another era (HOLIDAY INN premiered in 1942, but even then the "blackface" number must have been going out of style). But who could forget Crosby singing "White Christmas," or listening to his own recorded voice singing a Thanksgiving song, "I've Got Plenty to Be Thankful For"?Astaire dazzles in all of his dance numbers, especially the Fourth of July "firecracker" one and the stunningly costumed one for Washington's Birthday (which turns hilarious, thanks to Jim's machinations). And HOLIDAY INN's "movie-within-a-movie" sequence is very clever, anticipating SINGIN' IN THE RAIN.Appealingly filmed in black and white, HOLIDAY INN is a wonderful musical from the movie musical's Golden Age, perfect for enjoying on any holiday of the year. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Sing Away the War
Two Girls and a Sailor is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and features a great cast. The Deyo Sisters Patsy and Jean (June Allyson, Gloria De Haven) have been in show business their whole lives. When they grow up, they start their own canteen for soldiers and sailors from WWII to visit, have some snacks, and be entertained. Jean has a secret admirerer who gives her an old warehouse to expand the canteen. In it is an old vaudeville star (Jimmy Durante) whose career is practically over but who comes alive when he can aid in running the canteen. A large amount of soldiers frequent, especially Johnny (Van Johnson) who becomes special to both the girls.

I rate this high because it was the only movie we had on Iwo Jima. This of course when there was only mop up operations. We must have watched it 5 or more times. I will never forget that movie because of the circumstances, We were humming the song "Sweet and Lovely" for days.
5-0 out of 5 stars Can't help but be amazed with June and GLoria
Really love this movie. SHame that Miss Dehaven was not in more pictures. SHe is one very tallented actress who has beauty, style, class and proved that even in the movie "Out to Sea", still has all these things and CAN STILL DANCE with the best of them. SHe really has a wonderful singing voice. Most of all...........even at this stage of her life (80 yr. old) she is just as beautiful and LOOK AT THOSE EYES and THAT SMILE!!!!It is nice to know that Miss Dehaven, Miss Allyson and Mr. Johnson have remianed friend for years. ... More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince's mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic. 5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely AMAZING movie!
This movie is absolutely incredible! I watch it over and over. The singers are amazing, and there are so many more songs that aren't in the Disney Cinderella. I highly recommend this movie for people of all ages who love fairy tales and beautiful songs!

5-0 out of 5 stars Uh...Hellooooooo!
All this talk about race! Are you looking for reality here?No one questions a pumpkin turning into a coach, mice becoming horses...come on! The music is beautiful, the story is magical and believe me, alot of kids won't even question or notice the ethnicity! They're usually color-blind until we point it out to them anyway. This was a wonderful story and CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars great way to share a classic
this is obviously my own personal opinion, but i have always been a fan of this movie since i was in highschool (which was about 5 years ago). i thought it was refreshing to see a multi-cultured cast in the production instead of the usual conformity of race and color. it's a great movie for kids to enjoy and my own daughter loves this as much as i do. as soon as i saw that it was on DVD i had to snatch it up for myself. i can't stop watching it, i love this video so much! ... They just don't make musicals like this any more. There are some who would be grateful for that--the plot is but a flimsy excuse to string together song and dance numbers. Some of us, however, love big, splashy, overdone musical scenes, of which there are many. Glittering stage numbers showcase a commanding Barbra Streisand as Dolly Levy, a New York matchmaker who can find a mate for anyone. Anyone but herself, that is. Determined to marry wealthy Walter Matthau, she lures him out of Yonkers and sets about wooing him.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Elaborate Old-Fashioned Musical Looks Better with the Years
This elephantine 1969 musical comedy is always referred to as the movie that brought 20th Century-Fox to the brink of financial ruin in the early 1970's, but now that 37 years have elapsed since its original release, one can appreciate it for the old-fashioned, ingratiating piece of entertainment that it was intended to be. As one of the biggest successes on Broadway, Jerry Herman's musical adaptation of Thornton Wilder's turn-of-the-last-century comedy, "The Matchmaker", was given an opulent production, and Gene Kelly was handed the reins to translate a relatively intimate story onto the big screen. His MGM-trained sensibilities come in handy with the elaborate production numbers (aided by his former colleague Michael Kidd's energetic, athletic choreography) and motor-mouthed dialogue scenes given refreshed life by veteran screenwriter Ernest Lehman.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent adaptation
Barbra Streisand is miscast for the role of a middle-aged Irish widow, being both too young and too not-Irish, but turns in an wonderful performance anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars You go your way and I'll go mine!!
As other reviews state, bad press for this film continues. My question is "Why"?? I was never a fan of musicals until I saw "Hello Dolly". Barbara Streisand is incredible as Dolly Levi and very believable as a widow thanks to the make-up and costume departments. Her costumes and hair where definitely more mature (or should I say matronly)than those of other youthful characters...even the gown she wore in the Harmonia Gardens sequence has a certain maturity to it.Barbara brings the character to life with her touching interpretation of the character. I recently purchased "The Matchmaker", starring Shirley Booth, Paul Ford, Shirley MacLaine, and Anthony Perkins. It is the nonmusical version of the Thornton Wilder play of the same name and is the play upon which "Hello Dolly" is based. While enjoyable, it simply did not have the vitality of this musical interpretation. Walter Matthau is a wonderful Horace Vandergelder. While vocally inferior to some of the other performers, he transform his character into an easy-to-love, although gruff fellow. This is in contrast to Paul Ford's Horace Vandergelder who is quite unlikeable. While Tommy Tune and Michael Crawford went on to have successful careers, I always wondered what happened to Danny Lockin (Barnaby). I recently found out he was murdered back in 1977. That is unfortunate because, in my opinion, he was an incredible talent. To make a long review short, "Hello Dolly" is a musical masterpiece that belongs in any movie fan's collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MGM Nostalgia
This was the compilation which launched a renewed interest in the great MGM musicals.Admittedly, the great days of the movie musical had long ended in 1974, when this tribute first appeared. However, some of us had never seen the original films and it was wonderful to see and hear tantalizing excerpts from MGM's vast library.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Is Entertainment
It was the Fourth of July in 1974. My family decided to celebrate the holiday by touring the historic sights of Boston. The only problem? It was unbearably hot and there seemed to be no place to get a break from the sun. So what did my parents do? They decided that we'd head to Boston's Prudential Center and go to a movie and what did we see? THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT. Now at first glance THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT might not be the best choice for a family of young children, and when my brothers and sisters recall the afternoon, they don't have the excitement I have when I remember the same day. For me the film showed me that when the MGM lion roars, something great is bound to follow. It was certainly a moment that taught me how enjoyable a film can be and that great films have a timeless quality about them. I tried to watch every MGM movie I could, and since one of our local television stations had a Saturday night feature called the MGM movie
4-0 out of 5 stars Gotta Dance!
That's Entertainment is sort of a documentary for classic musicals. It is basically a bunch of clips from famous musicals like Singin' in the Rain, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Wizard of Oz, Gigi and other films with musical sequences like Broadway Melody of 1938, Born to Dance, Suzy, and Going Hollywood.
