This first filmed concert by Raffi illustrates his immense charm. The soft-spoken singer leads his turquoise-clad, four-member band through20 songs with a rapt audience of kids and parents singing along. Raffi'seasy manner and fluid vocals create an atmosphere that is very welcoming toyoungsters, easily going from cute songs ("Apples and Bananas") to popular songs("Day O") to a Spanish number ("De Colores") without ever losing them. The video also captures another key element of Raffi's success--his gaze is always inviting. The Baby Nurse
I have played this video for all the babies I have cared for over the last 15 years. It has always been a hit with the infants all the way up to 4 years old ( I don't care for anyone after 4). I have enjoyed it as much as the children, and we always have the CD for the car rides.

Saw it on IFC

Even if it means divorcing your wife, abandoning your family, quitting your job, climbing into the belly of whale to fight a posse of enchanted ninjas with nothing but a can of clam chowder (I'm emblishing a bit here, but you get my point), do it, do it, do it, do it. Best concert film ever recorded, I tell you! I find myself watching it just as frequently as I would listen to a CD, which has ended up being once or twice a day, with a few hiatuses, but the past two years. Creepy? Maybe. But still a damn good flick.

Yes, that's a former Beatle in caveman costume for this more-dumb-than-funny 1981 comedy about a prehistoric misfit (Ringo Starr) who recruits other misfits to start a new tribe. The jokes about flatulence and sex are banal, but the cast of then-unfamiliar faces is fun to watch from the perspective of history. The best thing going are some dinosaur special effects, though Ringo might argue meeting his future wife (Barbara Bach) was a good deal. Read more

A carefully thought out fantastic dance instruction video
If all dance videos were produced this well, there would have to be at least 10 times as many places to dance in the world in order to accomodate all of the dedicated dancers. The instruction, dancing, tips, photography, audio, and sequencing of steps (which step is taught first, second, etc.) are all absolutely impecable. In fact, Peta's tips for using the video (given at the beginning) can be applied to learing from any dance video and to learning how to dance in general - from any source.
Useful
It is a good video because it contains twenty variations, it is well explained and both Peta and Josie are very good dancers. However, the variations are shown as starting on two and I find more natural to start on one. Besides, their waist movement does not look as natural as a latin street dancer.
Of all the cha-cha videos I've seen this is the best
I've had very little luck finding cha-cha dance video's, and most of them show the same basic steps over and over.This video is the exception, I'd rate this as Josie's best video in terms of production and content.The routines are well thought out and explained.The style of cha-cha shown is the same one I learned and see practice in clubs here in Texas, so no complaints there. Great Danny Kaye Movie!
This isn't your standard Court Jester, Inspector General or Walter Mitty Danny Kaye.More serious and dramatic but still great!You will love this movie if you love Danny Kaye.Gives you a different glimpse of him, but just as good as the Danny Kaye standards.

A Treasure!
Like other reviewers, this movie was a childhood favorite of mine- I was only 4 when I first saw it, but I actually remember some of the scenes from that first viewing. What a treasure to have it on DVD-- with such a beautiful transfer. Colors are vibrant, the acting is great, story is a "classic", and the music is out-of-this-world.Get it if only for the Louie Armstrong performances with Danny Kaye.If you don't own a large-screen TV, this movie will make you want to get one! Great for family viewing to introduce your kids to New Orleans/Big Band sounds and teach them a little about history (polio epidemic of the 40s/50s).

Pure enjoyment!
I was craving a little Spice in my life last summer so I came to Amazon searching for some Spice Girls DVDs or something to feed my addiction.I'm sad to say that none of the VHS have been released on DVDs but I was so excited to find this tape.

What an irritating and obnoxious film
The little girl is idealistic to the point of being a pain in the behind.This kid sooooo lives in Fantasy Land!In her lollipop world, nobody does anything unpleasant, soldiers always come home, married people always adore each other . . . the little snip even presumes to wonder (out loud, to boot) if various couples she encounters on the street are married to each other.She's really annoying, and too full of her own sense of self worth.Excuse me for sounding prissy and old-fashioned, but you simply don't poke your head into an adult's private piano chamber, you don't interrogate your piano teacher about a personal project he's working on, if he's gracious enough to answer your barrage of questions then at least you don't interrupt him every 12 seconds, etc.You can't joke with her, you can't tell her the truth, you can't tell her a lie, she takes things too doggone seriously.She nags her mother endlessly about her father:Will father this, did father that, what would you do if father this or that, but what would you do, but mother, tell me, what would you do, etc.No matter what answer she gets, it's never quite satisfactory for the little pest.This kid just LOVES to pass judgment, especially negative judgment, especially upon people she barely knows.I was livid during the scene in which she first pays a visit to her piano teacher; while walking down the corridor leading to his room, she sweeps her gloved finger over a table to inspect it for dust!In her make-believe world of Pollyanna sweetness, there is no dust, no evil, no betrayal, no daddies who don't come home from the war, no bad ladies . . . just little girls who pass judgment and ask rude invasive questions because they have no sense of propriety.Furthermore, the pig-filth population of Paris, represented by the extremely unattractive women with their unhealthy pallor and streaks of rust-colored paint on their faces, made me wonder how the devil France could ever have wrongfully accused the great, noble, patient and suffering Marie Antoinette of being immoral.Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.What an altogether ugly movie.Pathetic.

Definetly not for children plus it stinks!
We generally love the composer series but this one reeks. It is silly and stupid and teaches you next to nothing about Bizet.
a musical fantasy
The series of films titled "The Composer's Specials", are in large part fiction, but are intended to introduce young people to classical music. In "Bizet's Dream", despite an inane script, and a few scenes that are so slow they seem to come to a standstill, there are some standout features: Marvelous cinematography by Barry Stone, on location in the Czech Republic, the magnificent music, played by the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, and Yseult Lendvai. Ms. Lendvai is the Prima Ballerina of the Stuttgart Ballet, and her all too fleeting appearances are a joy. Had all 53 minutes of this film been of her dancing to Bizet's gorgeous Carmen score, this would have been a 5 star masterpiece, as it is, it narrowly fits into a 4 star category.Read more

Centered on the early '80s punk movement, this remains the best of Penelope Spheeris's three attempts to chronicle the musical and angst-ridden subculture of urban Los Angeles. The film's style, like the music, is abrasive, frank, and packed with energy, as it moves swiftly from hilarious band and fan interviews to the loud, raucous shows inside seedy L.A. nightclubs. Despite its tongue-in-cheek title, Spheeris neither condemns, nor glamorizes, the movement, though she definitely has an eye for talent and thankfully plays favorites. Lesser acts like Alice Bag Band and Catholic Discipline are given minimal screen time (enough so we understand why they've been forgotten) in favor of bands that either possess off- stage charisma (Circle Jerks) or onstage potency (Fear's finale, winding their audience up with insults, is punk in its purest form). And, then there are X and Germs lead singer, Darby Crash. These two subjects comprise the majority of the film, as Spheeris hangs around their houses, captures numerous performances, and presents the movement's peak performers. While X does it mostly onstage--their mix of thrash and rockabilly are the most enjoyable of the live performances--Crash's stage is everywhere. A walking disaster, the singer candidly details--with simultaneously self-mocking humor and sadness--his drug abuse, miserable life, and the places that no longer let him play. The fact that he died shortly after production stamps Spheeris's brazen time capsule with a morbid, though appropriate, epitaph. Read more

Uh, its out on DVD, 17.95 where i am. So i dont know what you guys are talking about. It is a great movie, good intro to real punk if you dont already know what that is. These are all good bands, they give you something, over-produced , rich new age punk bands can't. and any of you that think greenday or blink 182 is punk your clueless

Excellent Punk Documentary & Concert Footage
I first saw the Decline of Western Civilization back in the early 90s. I then was able to buy it from Blockbuster Video for under 5 dollars. I can't believe someone is trying to sell it here for almost 600 dollars. That's crazy. It is an excellent documentary and has some really good concert footage of early 80s punk. I would highly recommend this if you like punk of the early 1980s.

A Cure for Curiosity
I recently found a bootleg of this documentary, and right away I was drawn into it. This really shows us (rather than telling us) what the hardcore punk scene was like in L.A. in the late '70s- early '80s. We get to see live performances of The Germs, FEAR, Catholic Discipline, X, Alice Bag Band, Circle Jerks, and Black Flag. In addition, we see shots of the crowd, which is pretty cool. The parts that I found the most interesting were when Penelope Spheeris would talk to the kids individually.

The best thing you could ever see!!!
When I first saw this program, it was during a late-night fit of insomnia a year ago.I turned on the TV, flipped through a few channels, and stopped dead when I heard a tidbit of gorgeous, heartwrenching music playing to a program on PBS.It seemed to be a biography...on Gustav Mahler!Now, at the time, I was 18 years old and I had been a classical music fan for just a month or so.But I sat glued to this Mahler program.I learned all about the correlation between his sad, troubled life, and his stormy, tempestuous music.I couldn't have changed the channel if I tried.It was mesmerizing.At the end, when they announced that they would explore the life of Tchaikovsky the next week, I was thrilled.I made a mental note to catch the program, but they must have switched timeslots because I couldn't find the program the week after that.I was pretty let-down about that.But, to my immense joy and complete astonishment, I found the ENTIRE four-tape set at my local library!I took the set home and totally consumed it, hour after hour.It was the most fascinating thing I'd ever watched, and it inspired me beyond measure to soak up all the musical knowledge I could.What makes this set completely astounding is that it utilizes both the music of the composers, and the commentary of expert musicians/conductors/historians to actually put you in the composer's mind!The bits and pieces of music that they showcase are worth the entire price tag in and of themselves.Especially in the Bach program, where a young tenor delivers a STRIKING performance of "Erbarme Dich Mein Gott" from the St. Matthew Passion.It will literally bring tears to your eyes.I really hope that the BBC eventually brings this set to a DVD format.A treasure like this shouldn't be allowed to fade into dust.In closing I'd like to say, this set of tapes changed my life completely.If it can make an 18-year-old classical novice appreciate this music, imagine what it can do for you. Excellent Production of The Best Composers of the Millenium
A very interesting and entertaining look into some of the greatest composers of our time.I just discovered the genius inherit in many of these men, and surprisingly through movies.The Arthurian movie Excalibur had a tremendous Wagner score, I believe the search for the Holy Grail piece, and this lead me to Bach--which lead me to this series through research.Of course I was already familiar with Beethoven and Mozart but more in depth information on their music and life was enjoyable. Superb!The Best Video on Composers!
This has to be by far the best, most professionally produced video series on composers today.Kenneth Branaugh's voice-over is a delight and adds to the dramatic scope of the production.Kudos to the BBC!Read more

MMMMmmmmm Breathlesssss!
Being born in '66, the Shindig! video series was something of a revelation to me; rock'n'roll is supposed to be fun! This volume of the Shindig! series highlighting Jerry Lee Lewis is incredibly enjoyable!I neverreally was familiar with much of the music of Mr. Lewis until I bought thistape."Whole Lotta Shakin'" looks like the biggest party onstage (watch for Jackie Wilson and the Righteous Brothers in thesing-along,) "Rockin' Pneumonia" is a percussive rocker, and thebest performance (in my opinion,) is "I Believe in You" Jerrysings with every last ounce of strength he's got backed with enthusiasticvocals by the Blossoms (with the great Darlene Love) and the Wellingtonsand of course an incredible dance routine by the Shindig Dancers.Thistape is gonna leave you "Breathless" everytime you view it!Andas one other reviewer referred to, you won't believe what this man can dowith "Take Me Out to the Ballgame!" (and what other show wouldhave Neil Sedaka perched at a piano on top of another piano played by"The Killer"?)

The Killer at his best
Jerry Lee is rocking and rolling through this short but outstanding time-document. Compare this to recent TV-shows of new artists, and you know why Jerry Lee is called "The Killer". This tape is a realcollectors item !

Just plain fun
