5-0 out of 5 stars "This Will Be" a great video to own!
Natalie Cole's story, which was based on her best-selling autobiography, comes to vivid life on screen. Like Ms. Cole's book, this movie pulls no punches about the seemingly fairytale life she had as a child to her bouts with drugs, her rise to fame as a singing star, her family life, only for it to all come crashing down due to her addiction--and her amazing comeback due to the one thing she was running away from all her life: acknowledging the legacy of her father, the legendary pop/jazz artist, Nat "King" Cole, who had died a tragic death from lung cancer at the age of 45. At the time of his death, Natalie had just turned 15, and has said that his death was something she never got over, but never had the chance to grieve, whicheventually led her to drugs. That, and the need to be daring and experimental. But she explains that it wasn't until the mid-80s when she was in rehab for the second time that she realized this. Bottom line was, she missed her father tremendously.5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT LOOK AT NATALIE COLE'S LIFE
I SAW THIS MOVIE ON TV AND IT WAS FANTASTIC.IT SHOWS HOW SHE USED DRUGS AND HOW IT AFFECTED HER LIFE AND CAREER.IT SHOWS HOW SHE WAS NOT CLOSE TO HER MOTHER.HER MOTHER DIDN'T WANT HER TO BE A SINGER.UP UNTIL THE LAST 30 MINUTES OR SO, THE ACTUAL NATALIE COLE TAKES OVER AS HERSELF.THE MOVIE ENDS WITH NATALIE RECORDING A DUET WITH NAT "KING" COLE AND HER PERFORMING ON THE GRAMMYS.ALL TOGETHER: FANTASTIC ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Romantic Ecstasy in ART
Put aside the drugs and the sex, although crucial componenets, as another reviewer stated it is mainly about LOVE. Love of another, love of music, love of art, love of self. This is the best low-budget movie I have ever seen because it captures the tone of Jane's Addiction, Perry himself, and the Ritual album to perfection. When I see this video it makes me feel exactly how the album does. I enjoyed seeing the actual album artwork from Ritual and Nothing's Shocking. Perry is such a prescence that acting skill could be mediocre and still captivates the viewer. In all of its suppossed vulgarity it didn't come across as so to me where in other films it certainly would have. I think Perry is amazing and I think the love he and Casey had was so mystical in itself. I think that love although dark was quite pure and definitely inspiring. I am continually inspired by the classic girl video and it was nice to see more footage of their Santeria wedding. It is so romantic and powerful. I feel anyone, even non-Jane's fans should watch this film if they consider themselves a lover of great music in general. It encapsulates a time in rock n roll by a very pionerring band. Gift is a gift to everyone who views it whether they know it or not. Beautiful!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Disturbing, Chilling, and It Rocks
Any movie put out by a musician is going to be geared toward their particular fan base. This movie is no different. However, I get the feeling that even if a person was not a fan, and they kept an open mind toward the message this film is putting across, that there is a chance that they could enjoy this twisted tale of love and drug addiction.
5-0 out of 5 stars Underrated
I can't count how many times I've gotten together with friends, smoked grass and watched this movie. I own a rapidly decaying copy of this that was used and abused by a previous owner who must have loved it as much as I do. Like the other reviewers have already mentioned, this is a simple "what if" about Perry and Casey's romance in the early 90's. While Perry is recording "Three Days," Casey buys some smack, shoots up and overdoses. Perry comes home to find his wife dead and makes love to her body, but not before getting high off of the leftover supply. Through the movie we get treated to live performances by Jane's, footage of the couple's Santeria wedding, multiple scenes of drug use and two of the ugliest, stupidest most beligerant cops in cinema history. Those pigs are the kind of people you'd want to see with Ice T and Body Count in the back of an L.A. club. This movie is not Citizen Kane. If you don't like Jane's or at least tolerate them, you won't like the picture. Some of the support acting is lame (Misstress Kiki, Marty, Pizza Dude) and there are some rather nasty injection shots. However, the camerawork is totally awesome, some of the actors are incredibly good (Perry, Casey, the Doctor, the Cops), the music is beyond good. The overall VIBE of the movie is beautiful. Some of the scenes make my friends and I just stop talking and really watch: the scoring scenes (valuable knowledge for users), Casey's overdose (the bloody injection coupled with the incessant knocking at the door is downright scary), Perry crying over his wife's corpse, and the final interrogation scene. If there is one thing in this world that will make you despise cops, its the interrogation scene. The whole movie is a celebration of freedom coupled with the nasty consequnces. It is a balanced movie. The junkies are beautiful, but their dead and incarcerated too. This movie is a remarkable little flick that just might move you. A weird little bit of history for those of us who were too young to be shooting smack and head banging to Jane's in the early 90's. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars True Talent is Sometimes NOT Recognized!
Mr. Liberal "One Star" idiot reviewer "TuPac Q. Liebowicz" obviously did not have the courage to use his own name when he wrote his review. He's the elitist kind looking down his sizable, upturned nose at real, normal folks who would have nothing to do with his kind. Ray Stevens is great!

5-0 out of 5 stars hilarious
Classics indeed! This was a hilarious collection of Ray Stevens's videos including "The Streak," "Santa Claus is Watching You," "Mississippi Squirrel revival," and "Everything is Beautiful." If you like Ray Stevens, you will love this collection. I loved it. Yeah, I did.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good Ol' Boy Humor!
Yeah, Good Ol' Boy humor....and we all know just how funny that is! I spent some time...many times... in the Deep South, NOT laughing at the wit of truckers and farm boys, and that this dvd is not even mildly amusing comes as no surprise. Ray Stevens always had to dub a laugh track on his records so that they would give the listener the impression that they are funny. In reality, while they are kinda cute and predictable, they barely raise a smile. The songs are poppy and listenable though and he probably is a nice enough guy. Picture and production quality ain't so hot but I'm sure you hicks wont mind. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbeatable live album
This was my first experience hearing The Cure live...and I have to say that it didn't disappoint. They are an amazing live band and sound better live than in the studio.I have been listening to The Cure since 1983...and they have never failed to surprise me from time to time.Even with their wishy-washy "Friday I'm In Love", you had to say that no-one can be that gloomy all the time and it was a breath of fresh air for them(but back to the review).
5-0 out of 5 stars not "Trilogy" but still amazing
I agree with the other reviewers who point out the brilliance of Porl Thompson. To see him play live is one of the all time greatest Cure moments. 5-0 out of 5 stars The "Show" of a lifetime!!
Another one of Lauren's dear favorites.... Here is your chance to view one of the best concerts to ever be recorded. It's so unique, from the way it "opens" up with random shots of die-hard Cure fans.. To the way it slowly and dramatically "ends", a fitting song to balance the entire mood that is given off by this amazing band. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "You Can Be Fearless"
"Six: The Mark Unleashed" is a well paced end-times drama that though a low-budget production, will be highly entertaining for anyone who likes apocalyptic scenarios, and listening to a script that contains a lot of Scripture, though some non-Christians may even find it boring and not appreciate its message. The sets are minimal, as much of the film takes place within the confines of a prison, and the emphasis is on the character development of the people in the story. Those who have received the "Holy Implant" have chosen self-preservation at any cost, with life but no freedom, and those who remain true to their Christian beliefs and don't get "branded," accept martyrdom (by guillotine) as a better alternative. There are also those who are simply "underground," having not committed to Christianity, but fearing the implant. The implant is a reprogramming device that makes one conform to obey the Antichrist, during the years of Tribulation.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
Great movie based on the end times. Not just for Christians, but anyone with an interest in set-in-the-near-future apocalyptic movies and tv shows.
2-0 out of 5 stars The end of the world according to Christians
This movie is an interpretation of Revelations (which was actually a warning against about worshiping emperors such as Nero and Caligula). Stephen Baldwin has a part as an all knowing Christian who not only talks to God but God talks to him. I laughed when he came out of the shadows in a way that screamed "Look who's a Christian!". Oh good, a D-list actor "found" Jesus. I liked when he got a good beating. God didn't seem to warn him that was coming! And I loved the line a Christian used. "Your beliefs are irrelevant to the facts". Duh, yeah, why do you people get mad when I say that?

Hell's Bells is life changing to say the least. Having been a lead guitarist for many years, I found the videos to be right on. The Christian perspective is balanced and each person is encouraged to draw thier own conclusion. It is an eye opener if someone really wants to know the truth.

4-0 out of 5 stars freedom of speech and religion
After reading some of the reviews of this movie I am amused. Freedom of speech and religion are our rights. Anyone offended by this movie is certainly entitled to their opinion, just as those who enjoyed the movie and found it to reflect their own views. I found the movie extremely interesting. Understanding diversity comes through exploration and deciding what is right for you. I was not offended and I would recommend this movie. Anyone secure in their own beliefs will take the content accordingly. If you are unsure of your beliefs, you may be threatened or enlightened. Either way I am pleased to see it on the market. I support freedom of speech and religion. ... Read more

The very gifted actress Eleanor Parker, made simply a vibrant and extraordinarily vivid performance about the life of Marjorie Lawrence's personal tragedy who was attacked by the polio. The famous Farrell supports Parker in his several characterizations. Excel tribute to one of the most distinguished figures of the Bel Canto.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perry Como still sounded great at 81!
Here we have a real collector's item for Perry Como fans... Perry's last Major Live Concert and Television Special.
2-0 out of 5 stars Painful to watch
I purchased a used copy of this concert to give to my parents for Christmas.I decided to watch it myself (couldn't help it!) before wrapping it up!After viewing it, I am not sure that I want to give it to them.First of all, let me say that I have great respect and admiration for the talent that was Perry Como. However, this concert was extremely painful for me to watch. His singing voice was a whisper - and he frequently forgot lyrics and either hummed a little - or just stopped singing altogether!Embarrassing! I would only recommend buying this tape if you are a die-hard fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming and Unforgettable
I think Mr. Cox had stated, and in a very articulate way, the feelings I had after watching Mr. Como at the age of 81 close out his career in a place where you can sense the reciprocation of Love between Mr. Como and his Audience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Also looking forward to a DVD release
I am lucky enough to own a laser disc of this concert, which is superior to the VHS version but only a hint at what would be possible with a DVD release.Virtually all of the performances are inspired, and it is obvious how much fun the musicians had (except, of course, for "Sine-Aid/Sinbad/Uncle Fester" O'Connor). It is difficult to conceive of Sony's rationale for not releasing this on DVD, particularly in view of the amount of drivel that is available! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THE GREATEST OF ALL ELVIS FILMS!
This movie has it all -- Michelle Carey, Elvis, changing times, psychedelic sequences (check out the "Edge of Reality" bit -- the girls "morph" *years* before the technology was invented!), taboo subjects (sex, etc.), and the original version of "A Little Less Conversation." It is a true romantic comedy; had it never been made with Elvis, and had been shot this year with Ben Afleck and Cameraon Diaz, it would be a smash hit! Actually, it was a pretty big hit in its own time, even though it was one of Elvis's last three or four movies. This film needs to be released on DVD soon! Especially wonderful is the widescreen version that airs on TNT every now and then. Michelle Carey was incredible -- I wish she was still around. The songs are great (all 4 of them), and this movie, written by the same dude that wrote "Private Lessons" (1981), rises above the rest of the awful schlock that Elvis concerned himself with for the majority of the sixties. Relax, check it out, and have a good time.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Presley's BEST!
This film is very in tune with the 1960's and even has an acid-influenced Elvis-dream sequence!Elvis is very relaxed in the role and seems to actually enjoy it.He gets to be a cool photographer with a cool dune buggy and a great big dog for a pet. This is fast-paced, not slow, like some other reviewers have said...Elvis fans will be surprisingly pleased by this very-late-stage film.I think he made only 1 or 2 others after this one.I bought it for the psychedelic acid-dream sequence and ended up really enjoying the whole movie and I'm wasn't even a hardcore Elvis fan.(But now I am!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Spice up your life!!
I was the Spice Girls biggest fan when I was younger. I had anything and everything Spice Girls, and I remember I was devastated when they broke up! This movie is a part of my childhood and a part of the Spice Girls. Not only that but it really is a good movie. Sure, it's cheesy but it's allowed to be. What movie about any pop/rock/rap anything isn't cheesy? The Spice Girls rock and they always will. VIVA FOREVER!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Live and Let Spice
It was good to see Roger Moore, no longer James Bond 007, in a film again. This time he plays a character that looks very much like his nemesis Blofeld. Instead of a cat he now keeps a pig in his lap. Very cool idea! As with David Lean's DOCTOR ZHIVAGO it is about a few years in the turbulent life of the all-female Anglo-Soviet assembly. The Spy and Spice Girls have plenty of character, and that helps make up for the lack of action and adventure that keeps their movie debut from being a truly epic motion picture. The concert scene at Albert Hall in London was very reminiscent of Hitchcock's THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH. It was kind of a 90's version on some of his themes as well as David Lean's and those of the Bond producers. However, it has a potential of being cult epic like AUSTIN POWERS. Perhaps not. Perhaps time will be kind to these spicy gals.

I was able to locate 1 copy of video IV in the trilogy.I must say that though I purchased this video over seas and had to have it transfered to DVD so that I could watch the video (the entire lot came out to about $110) I would do it agian. Without this video, there is no understanding the band, the songs, the albums or, and for me most importantly, Axl. With his description of what this song means to him and why exactly it is not the "ending" of Del James short story "Without You" I came to realize that it is part IV of a trilogy because though it is the third video in a set of three, it actually is part IV...Del James short story "Without you" is part III. The word fan does not do justice to the person who propelled by something else locate this video and watch it to understand the entire picture, then go one step further and begin looking for the book "The Language of Fear" by Del James (which is no longer in print) to read the story of Mayne and Elizabeth which inspired Axl Rose to write November Rain and Estranged...as well as inspired his soul to be who he is now. In short, money well spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe the absolute greatest GnR video
This is a great, great video. For the most awesome song.I searched for this video when it first came out, asking the record/video store every week of they got it in.I practically wore it out the first week or two.Had to get another! The making of doc. is very cool. Gives you some insight into what Axl was thinking, etc...There is only one problem I have with this video - the title. Can anyone tell me why noone at Geffen, or GnR or heck, anyone who put this thing together, didn't realize that IV (as in part IV) means 4?And how can there be part 4 of a TRILOGY?Trilogy is three, count them, three parts.Sorry, I just don't understand. If it was a mistake, you'd think someone, somewhere would have caught it. And if it is part 4, where the heck is part 3??? Or am I missing something?Anyway get this video.Get all three of the trilogy: Don't Cry-part 1, November Rain-part 2, and Estranged-part 4 (actually part 3).Greatest set of videos ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent video about a superb song
This is the crown jewel for anyone who has set aside some time and tried to understand what GnR and Illusion are about. This video is a documentary about the third song in the Trilogy (Don't Cry, November Rain & Estranged) and is certainly the most emotional song I can think of.If you're out to buy your first GnR-video, then I'd probably go for a different one. "The Makings of Estranged" puts it all into context and you may probably understand why "Illusion I & II" differs quite a bit from Appetite and GnR Lies.Axl breakdown is exposed in this video, but without his breakdown GnR would probably just have been "any other slammin' rock-band". Somehow this band were doomed from the beginning. This is the crown-jewel. For any serious fans: Buy it!!You won't regret it!(I paid more than 120$ for my copy and I'd do it again!) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Hey Roboto Your Mother Was A Toyota!"
WOW! what a spectacular concert. If you have seen the RETURN TO PARADISE concert DVD or VHS and/or you have seen Styx live you very well know that Styx is one of the best live bands of all-time. But if you really want to see great music live buy this. This is them in 1984 just after their release of KILROY WAS HERE and they play some fantastic songs they play "Don't Let It End", "Mr. Roboto", "Haven't We Been Here Before", "Heavy Metal Poisoning", and "Cold War" and "Don't Let It End (Reprise)" from Kilroy. They also play some of their classic songs "Come Sail Away", my favorite "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights), "The Best Of Times", "Rockin The Paradise", "Too Much Time On My Hands", "Snowblind" and "Renegade". If you don't like the Kilroy album it is probably because you don't understand. This movie puts it all into perspective if you see this you will completely get DeYoung's "Mr. Roboto", Young's "Heavy Metal Poisioning", and Shaw's "Haven't We Been Here Before". You have all 5 of the classic members here at this keyboardist Dennis DeYoung, guitarist Tommy Shaw, guitarist James Young, bassist Chuck Panozzo, and my favorite member drummer John Panozzo. This is the way that music is meant to be played. This was an awesome concert by an awesome band I bought this tape for 20 dollars and it was definetly worth every penny. Buy It Today!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rockin' The Paradise--FOREVER
I have this movie on Beta, and it's great. Some may not understand the movie's "rock rebellion" theme, but I DO.I was there in the 70's when many a Dr. Righteous was about, spewing and preaching pretty much the same way that Panozzo does in the movie.Where Panozzo/Dr. Righteous says "I see a future without rock music....", I'd say "I see a future without wacko fundies running around dictating other people's lives to them, while not living right themselves".Let someone ELSE eat Dr. Righteous' fried chicken for a while...LOLRead more

Editorial Review

The plot is a hokey whitewash of the careers of Richard Rodgers andLorenz Hart, with characters talking in stilted phrases ("Gee, Larry, that's marvelous, really and truly") and complexities reduced to ground zero. But Rodgers and Hart comprised one of the greatest song-writing teams of the 20th century, and Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Words and Music
I have been waiting for years for "Words and Music"(1948) to be released on DVD. I have both the sound track (CD) and the movie (VHS) in my collection. I would like to have the DVD of this, as it is a matter of time, before my VHS collection is obsolete. The movie is light on true events in Hart's life (sexual preference), but the music and stage productions are excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars TURNER/MGM/WARNER EMBARRASMENT!
This was released on VHS ages ago and its about time Warner re-releases it as a re-mastered Dolby Digital masterpiece that it deserves and that they can and have done so beautifully !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Musical - Everyone shines!
Words & Music was originally released in 1948 and is a very colourful, beautifully filmed musical from MGM. The film includes a lot of superb performances! Despite the fact that the film is only very loosly based on the lives of Rogers and Hart, this film is a must have for all Musical collectors and fans of all the stars involved.
