In Neil Young's world--to paraphrase John Lennon (who was quoting HarryNilsson)--everything is the opposite of what it is. The fragile is epic, theepic is personal, the personal is a collective dream. Young's best songs arelike Tennyson's poems, somehow always shimmering under scrutiny, somehow allthe more soulful for evading fixed points of meaning. While there was nothingevasive about Young's negative opinions of MTV in the 1980s, both he and thecable channel had broad enough shoulders to collaborate on anRead more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Fine Acoustic Concert!
When this MTV Unplugged concert of Neil Young originally aired on MTV, I made sure to tape it, as Neil Young is one of my favorite musicians. When I recently went to watch it, I found that it had been taped over with cartoons! (I thanked my son for that!) I really wanted a copy of this fine concert, so was very pleased to find it on Amazon.com. To me, it shows Neil Young at his purist-accompanied only by acoustic instruments. I love hearing songs like "Long May You Run" and "Pocohontas" done in an acoustic vein. The song "Stringman", which is a beautiful song, is only found on this video. I was very pleased to have a copy of that!5-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect
This video is a perfect example of why Neil Young has survived 3 decades at the top of the music industry; timeless classics ranging from his Buffalo Springfield days with "Mr. Soul", to his more recent"Harvest Moon". It is truly an essential for any Neil Young fan. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Okay for Light Days
I have been working out for about a month, and when I first started, this video was pretty challenging. (PS I'm trying to lose about 60 lbs.)After I had been working out for about 2-3 weeks, and I knew the dance steps pretty well, this video became a breeze. I like to use it on my "I don't feel like working out today" days, when I want a 'lite' workout. If you can get past the flirting, bad camera angles (not showing foot shots when they are demonstrating moves) and shameless self promotion (yeah, go scandal, work it!) I think this is a fun video with good workout music. When you know the dance moves and you don't want to slow your heart rate down when they are showing them to you, just march (or jog) in place. They have a great cool down, and even stop (once) to check your heart rate to make sure you're working as hard as you should. Four stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars HOOKED!
I have had worked out with the video for about 5 years and I love it!The steps were easy to learn. Now, I do the warm-up, go straight to the routine, workout with the group, rewind and do routine again. My heartrate reaches advanced level, I'm burning fat and toning at the same time. This is my first Grind workout video and I am definitly purchasing another one. It's so much more fun than regular aerobics.I'm hooked!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners
This was the first exercise tape that I ever bought. The dance routine is broken down so that it is easy to learn and it is definitely fun to do.Although this tape got me excited about starting to exercise, I would not recommend this tape to most people. This tape failed to get my heart rate up and I really didn't see any results from doing it 3-5 times per week. ... Way back in 1988, New York University sophomore Todd Holoubek had adream: to form a new group of comedians called the New Group. He wouldbe joined by schoolmates Michael Showalter and Joe Lo Truglio. The trioperformed sketch comedy on and off campus, shot some videos, and evenopened for Dennis Miller. Soon Michael Ian Black and David Wain wererecruiting the group to work for MTV and, with the addition of other NewYork University students Kevin Allison, Ben Garant, Michael Patrick Jann,Kerri Kenney, Thomas Lennon, and Ken Marino, they became the flop called theState, which would run for two years on MTV, mount one CBS special, recordan unreleased album, publish a book, and dissolve, as Holoubekleft the group and the State's fate was uncertain.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest sketch comedy groups out there
i have been a fan of the state for some time. they had a real good thing going until the leader disbanded from the group ( Todd Holoubek ). i thought viva variety was gonna be the next "state" but it fell short. reno 911, various snicker commercials, wet hot american summer, and out cold are all i have to remember the group by. mostly just thom lennon though. dude is hilarious. that stella show is alright too. though the state was way more classic, and had the entire cast. tough to beat
4-0 out of 5 stars Not Long Enough
I agree, this is a fantastic tape. The tape is only an hour and a half long. I wish it could be longer :(5-0 out of 5 stars FREAKN HYLARIOUS!
This video is absolutly hylarious.Me and my sorority sisters watch this video for hours on end.Everytime you watch you catch one more joke or punch line that you might not have noticed before.Everyone in this sketch comedy act are brilliant and hylarious. They really should come out with all the episodes on DVD or VHS! 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally
For those of you who only have fond memories of Toby Huss doing Frank Sinatra or that crazy Go To Hell guy, or Donal Logue doing the crazy cabbie Jimmy McBride... here's your tape. Though they didn't include all of my favorite commercials, seeing some of them was nostalgic enough. I can't find any of this stuff online!
1-0 out of 5 stars Move along nothing to see here
...This was an awful attempt to separate people from their money in a horrible masquerade of nostalgia. The problem is, they were all period pieces. Now, taken out of context of the era in which they were produced you have a collection of attempts at humor.Lousy attempts at that.Do yourself a favor, skip this video entirely.

5-0 out of 5 stars Treasure!
This is quite a find... admittedly I got it for really cheap elsewhere, but the Toby Huss/Sinatra impersonator spots are pure gold. And of course, Donal Logue as Jimmy the Cabby is great fun, too.Worth checking out if you can get a good price... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars better then Beavis & Butt-Head
This was a really interesting show, probably the best MTV ever made. Too bad they canceled it when the second season came out that when their mission was over which was find special artifacts to save the world from the alien invasion. This show is a hell of a lot better then watching the Real World 24 hours a day. Too me this show was better then Beavis and Butt-Head not that I don't like it it's just that at least these people have sense and their not losers their hero's. And it's still comedy too.

    5-0 out of 5 stars "The Head" -- A brilliant sci-fi series
Weird, funny, inventive -- these qualities deservedly rank this short-lived sci-fi series alongside "Beavis and Butthead," "Daria," and other groundbreaking MTV cartoons.4-0 out of 5 stars This is a great item
This video collects some of the episodes from the first season of Eric Fogle's short lived animated series which aired on MTV in the mid-1990's.Its the story of a guy named Jim who becomes the living host for an alien being named Roy.The adventures they experience are a lot of fun, and the series makes some great references to social acceptance.I am very glad it was released on video and hope the 2nd season's episode's will also become available. If any of you are interested there was a cartoon book based on the series which came out after it ended, titled "The Head: The Lost Episode", written by Fogle. Its pretty funny and worth a look, though I believe its out of print and hard to find. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Natalie Merchant and 10.000 Maniacs are SUPERB
As the last CD and video of the 10,000 Maniacs, with Natalie Merchant as their vocalist, she knew how to say 'good bye'. From the very beginning of the video she captures you with her voice. In this video you will hear andsee the best of 10.000 Maniacs, until 1992, and you will enjoy the charmand passion of Natalie singing "Don't Talk", "These areDays" and what they called the 'stand up song': "Stockton GalaDays". To see this video is way best than just hear the CD, eventhough the camera work is not so brilliant. I highly recommend "Eatfor Two", "Candy Everybody Wants", "Trouble Me"and "Because the Night", after that, you will run and buyNatalie's "Ophelia" and "Live in NY" videos. Don't missthis opportunity to be delighted with good music. For me was not so easy tohave this video, but if you are a truly 10.000 Maniacs fan, this MUST be inyour collection, is never too late. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Below the standard!
I'm sorry but this video is just too boring! I love Stings music and art - but this doesn't move a thing in me.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best example of Sting's extraordinary range of talent.
From a haunting "The Wild Sea", to an improvised "Walking on The Moon", this video is a vibrant example of Sting's vocal, lyrical, and musical talent. The texture of the video is soft andfiltered, which complements the acoustic nature of the unplugged venue. This is an absolute must for Sting fans - as close is you will ever get tohaving a feel for what it must be like to have Sting play in your livingroom. Thanks Gordon for sharing your talent!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Acoustic Brilliance
This video is the MTV Unplugged performance which was recorded in New York on 5 March 1991. The difference between the version screened on MTV and this release however, is the inclusion of an additional song and interview. Whereas the MTV show concentrated on pre-"Soul Cages" songs, on this release you get excellent performances of "Why Should I Cry For You?" and "The Wild Wild Sea". As proved to be the case with the VH1 Storytellers show, Sting enjoyed himself so much doing the acoustic set, that the following month he did a similar set in his home town of Newcastle at the tiny Buddle Arts Centre. Sadly, although this performance was filmed it has had no similar video release although the songs have been released. The Unplugged video is very interesting though and the songs performed work extremely well in their stripped down versions. END ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars AVERAGE AT BEST
i bought this tape for my nephew, who upon seeing a marathon on MTV2 months ago, loved this show.. i am disappointed there isnt more episodes on tape, but, bought this for him for christmas. based on the other reviews, i thought it would be great. well, it wasnt.. average at best.. the fights were short or non-existent, and the talking in between was too long.. some scenes were funny, but overall this tape was not up to the later episodes which had more fighting...

5-0 out of 5 stars MTV's Celebrity Deathmatch: Round 2
This video was a whole lot better than the first one. All of the six matches were good and entertaining. I would recommend this video and the first one to anyone who used to watch Celebrity Deathmatch, MTV back in the old days, or if you are a new person interested in Celebrity Deathmatch. The second video is definitly worth all of your money. BUY IT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not new but still...
This tape is deep from within the MTV archives, being ones that have beencommentated on by Stone Cold Steve Austin (in actual fact Austin providedhis voice to all his appearances), some of the hot matches are: DavidLetterman vs. Jay Leno, Bill Gates vs. Michael Flatley and LeonardoDiCaprio vs. Jack Nicholson, plus loads more. Like everything else by theCelebrity Deathmatch guys this video is must see and although the episodesare constantly being re-shown shell out and get a piece of MTV history... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Power Yoga
I bought this DVD several years ago and I like the variety of the poses and difficulty level of the video. My biggest problem with the video is that either its because of the speed of transition between poses or because one second you head is facing up and then its down, I find that I get VERY LIGHT HEADED.Also at the end of the work out I don't really find that peaceful relaxed feeling that I get from other vidoes like Ali McGraw Total Mind and Body.I find that I often follow my own variations of the poses that I've picked up from other videos because they sometimes feel more natural to me and sometimes I just can't do the pose in the length of time that is allowed to keep up with the instructor.I still play this workout occasionally when I want some variety to my exercise and over all I think it's a good video.

4-0 out of 5 stars SURPRISE - it IS really good!
My friend received 2 copies of this DVD for Christmas, so she gave me one, assuring me that "no, Jen, it really is good".I am very skeptical of anything bearing the MTV label, but was happy to see BT did the soundtrack (I love electronic music, especially trance and progressive).
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a yoga beginner
As someone who had NEVER done yoga before and was fairly inflexible, I found the video to be good for a beginner willing to try yoga for the first time. I did struggle through it the first, second, and maybe third time learning the positions, but once you get a good general idea of the video it's easy to follow, with variations on the positions as you advance. The music is good, and it really improved my flexibility. Paired with cardio (in my case, swimming) I think it could be a great variation from a normal workout routine. Within about a month (maybe a little more) I could do most of the second (and much harder) MTV yoga DVD. I think it's important to stress, though, that I feel this DVD is best suited for beginners - for those with a lot of previous yoga experience it could prove too easy or too tedious. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Should Have Been There
This movie has a CD to it that not every KISS fan, but every rock fan should listen to at least once. I really never expected the acoustic KISS to be good but it really is. It is much more calm, and much more mature sounding. They didn't play any of the hard core songs like Strutter, but the songs they did play went great with the acoustic sound. Another thing I was surprised about was that Ace showed up! I was worried that he would have skipped out on this because of past relations with the band. The concert went great. The fans were cheering by the time it got to Rock N Roll All Nite, which also was a good acoustic version. So if you are interested, or already listening to KISS, you should definitely get this DVD or CD.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent stuff
Kiss rock hard in this one and its interesting to see the reunion. The songs they chose sound great unplugged and there is some songs they never usually sung live, but are here such as "Comming Home" "See You Tonight" and "A World Without Heroes".All of the songs sound great unplugged.
5-0 out of 5 stars The video that brought back Ace Frehley and Peter Criss
Yes, you read right: this video performance is responsible for bringing back original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss, and this video is excellent. In 1995 when Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Bruce Kulick, and Eric Singer were touring all over the country holding their own expos, fate (actually Eric Singer, according to what the interviews at the beginning of this video said) led to Ace Frehley and Peter Criss appearing at a few expos, performing on MTV's "Unplugged" show with Simmons, Stanley, Kulick, and Singer, and then eventually rejoining the band and KISS finally putting their makeup back on.As for the video, it shows KISS performing on "Unplugged" in August 1995.Here they were performing their material from the 70's, 80's, and 90's on all accoustics and the material they chose to perform included "Got To Choose", "I Still Love You", "Everytime I Look At You" (for which a symphony joined them in their performance), among other classic KISS songs.I would have liked to see "Detroit Rock City" performed on accoustic guitar, but since this performance was responsible for bringing back Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, this video still gets five stars.Halfway during the performance is when you get to see Frehley and Criss go on stage to perform with Simmons, Stanley, Kulick, and Singer. After a few more songs are performed, the show is ended with Simmons, Stanley, Kulick, Singer, Frehley, and Criss performing "Rock and Roll All Nite" all together, and it sounds excellent. There are also interviews with the band members and video clips from the expos before you get to see the band perform, and there is a commentary at the end of the video. It is really a shame that Ace and Peter have left the band again: Peter was fired, and Ace actually left the group to work on his new solo album. It isalso too bad that everyone in the original line up of KISS isn't able to work together-they are a great band, and I am hoping that they will release a new studio album.Anyway, get this video because it is awesome and KISS ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Good Tunes, Bad Editing
I bought this DVD because of the selection, which I really liked. The songs and videos are good, it sounds great on my system. BUT, the main reason I purchased the DVD was so I could put the videos on my iPod and the editing is done in such a way that the goofy interviews are part of the music video files and not even related to the song to which it's attached.I don't wish to watch the silly little snippets of artists talking, I want music videos on the go!I meant to use them in good faith on my own equipment which I consider to be fair use. I rarely just put on music videos while at home on my DVD player because I am a busy guy! I wanted the videos in short bursts on my iPod. Alas. So be warned if your intention is the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!!!
Actually, 3 of the 15 vids i didn't care for.BUT, the other 13 are PHENOMINAL.Due to your varying taste for talent and good music, I won't mention which 3 I prefer to pass when I play it.....you'd probably be surprised. To those of you Mtv fans too young to have heard of some of these gems, give em' a chance and get this great DVD.You might find it interesting to map what kind of Artist's started and continued Mtv's journey of popularity.Although i've seen it mentioned that Aqua - Barbie Girl is 90's, I saw it for the first time on this DVD and loved it!3-0 out of 5 stars pleasant mix for pop lovers

1-0 out of 5 stars Havent seen this but......
I havent seen this show although i would like to but living in England means i dont get to. I recently bought the fan made dvd collection of every episode including the other side of fear and faces of fear shows after seeing the two episodes of the show that were shown in Britain. The show FEAR is really amazing i loved it (there is a petition to try and get MTV to make more episodes at http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/fear ) I suggest anyone who has not seen this show should get hold of a copy of pretty much any episode and anyone who has to sign the petition to bring the greatest show ever back!

1-0 out of 5 stars Fun Program on MTV, HORRIBLE DVD !!!
This DVD is 55 MINUTES LONG!55 minutes of garbage, and I really liked the program on MTV. Sure would be nice if MTV just offered the program for sale by season. They say on their web site that is coming soon.Whether it is or not, DO NOT waste your money on this frisbee.

2-0 out of 5 stars If you liked the gameshow, you will NOT like the DVD!
I saw a one-off show broadcast on British TV and thought the blair-witch style gameshow was amazing. It had my eyes glued to the screen for the whole episode, and was scarier than anything I'd seen before. After searching around I got the DVD with high expectations but I have to say it was a dissapointment. The DVD only features about 6 dares, and at that you would expect them to be the best. They are not! The dares are spoiled by constant cuts to commentary from the contestants which means you can never settle into the action. The biggest downfall on the DVD is that it takes the freight out of the successful episodes. If you get a chance to see Fear on TV or know a friend that has any episodes, it's a must see. But as for this DVD, leave it on the shelf! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars when MTV wasn't pop poo...
the first time I watched this, I must have been like 6 or 7. My cousins were all big rock heads and they thought this show was second greatest only to Headbangers Ball. So did I. This video is freakin' awesome. I recommend this to anybody who wants to see what grunge and alternative really WERE, not what they are now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Cool
This brought me back to my high school days. It's a great mix of REAL alternative bands (I mean alternative before alternative was Top 40). Great Violent Femmes video, They Might Be Giants and The Church. You will reallyappriciate this video if you remember Dave Kendall- if you don't know whohe is doen't bother buying this! ... This tough, total-body workout is for the experienced exerciser with stamina and strength. You might expect a MTV workout to be a dance routine, but this one is rugged and pure athletics. Instructor Keith Byard and his two female exercisers first present an intense cardio segment (sometimes using a step) with athletic and boxing moves, such as squats, jumping jacks, kicks, jabs, and lunges, done with enough repetition to make you feel the burn. One participant shows modifications, but even so, this workout is not for the beginner. Next you alternate free weights and push ups to work the upper body, then you work the lower body using your body weight, followed by a killer abdominal segment. After your rigorous workout, relax with a 30-minute yoga session taught by Courtney Tarpley. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Annoying Voice & Breathing
I had the hardest difficulty following the instructor in the video because the way he spoke and breathed in.It's very irritating. For this video, you need a step.I just forward to the end and do the yoga.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who needs a gym? This video is all you need!!!
This workout will work ALL of your muscles & it is so much fun!! Keith (the instructor) is very motivating & he takes you through a challenging workout in which you will need a pair of hand weights, a step (optional)& keep some water nearby because you will need to keep hydrated.I don't own a step & the moves are very simple to follow (trust me your legs will be sore the next day!!!!) He has 2 girls working out with him, one does the beginner version & the other the advanced exercises. A great thing about this video is that several times they have you check your heart rate against a chart on the screen to make sure you're on track. When choosing your hand weights don't use a pair that is too heavy because he will alternate between weights and doing push ups in between, so your arms will get quite a workout!! After doing this workout a few days a week you will notice a difference in your body, but remember that a healthy way of eating plays a big role too! Keith ends with a relaxing cool down and there is a yoga segment following the workout led by another instructor but I have other yoga videos that I prefer to do.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gets your heartrate up there
My rating is for the workout itself, not the production quality. This workout is great for working up a sweat and getting your heart rate into your target zone for burning fat. The upper body and ab segments are challenging, the lower body segment is good if you have heavier weights. The instructor's cues don't always come when you need them, and the counting is a little screwy, but the moves are basic enough that you can keep going without losing tempo. I like having two sets of dumbbells for this one, because your arms really start to burn at the end of the upper body portion (use your light ones for the warmup to add intensity). I love the yoga segment. It is my favorite (along with Ali MacGraw Yoga and Living Arts Lower Body Yoga with Suzanne Deason). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars MTV's Celebrity Deathmatch: Round 1
When I saw this video, I was happy to remember what MTV was like before. I used to watch this show all the time because it was really good, and so is this video. There are six matches but the first three are not that good (not statisfying). The other three though are a lot better. These last three were Steven Segal vs. David Spade, Prince vs. Prince William, Michael Jordan vs. Dennis Rodman. I would still recommend this video to any fan of Celebrity Deathmatch, and if you have never seen it you will learn to like it.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's Gonna Be A Bloodbath!
Some of the earliest Deathmatche's from Series One are on this tape, including the classics: Hillary Clinton vs. Monica Lewinsky, Mariah Careyvs. Jim Carrey and Jerry Seinfield vs. Tim Allen. As always CelebrityDeathmatch manages to touch the funny bone, even if it is always beingre-shown on MTV. There is a special behind-the-scenes studio tour not shownon TV that is very funny. Good fight, good night! If you're stuck betweenbuying this one, Round 2 or Greatest Hits, go for Round 2!

This unplugged is a work of art. "Heaven" and "Back To You" are especially magical. I've been an Adams fan since I was a weetike and this reaffirms all my love for the music he creates.

5-0 out of 5 stars brilliant!
Unplugged albums just don't come any better than this excellent show of Bryan & band performing some of his biggest hits as well as some never before heard songs, all pants down.
