4-0 out of 5 stars Okay for Light Days
I have been working out for about a month, and when I first started, this video was pretty challenging. (PS I'm trying to lose about 60 lbs.)After I had been working out for about 2-3 weeks, and I knew the dance steps pretty well, this video became a breeze. I like to use it on my "I don't feel like working out today" days, when I want a 'lite' workout. If you can get past the flirting, bad camera angles (not showing foot shots when they are demonstrating moves) and shameless self promotion (yeah, go scandal, work it!) I think this is a fun video with good workout music. When you know the dance moves and you don't want to slow your heart rate down when they are showing them to you, just march (or jog) in place. They have a great cool down, and even stop (once) to check your heart rate to make sure you're working as hard as you should. Four stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars HOOKED!
I have had worked out with the video for about 5 years and I love it!The steps were easy to learn. Now, I do the warm-up, go straight to the routine, workout with the group, rewind and do routine again. My heartrate reaches advanced level, I'm burning fat and toning at the same time. This is my first Grind workout video and I am definitly purchasing another one. It's so much more fun than regular aerobics.I'm hooked!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners
This was the first exercise tape that I ever bought. The dance routine is broken down so that it is easy to learn and it is definitely fun to do.Although this tape got me excited about starting to exercise, I would not recommend this tape to most people. This tape failed to get my heart rate up and I really didn't see any results from doing it 3-5 times per week. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What? This tape is AWESOME!
Really-I wonder who is writing the same review over and over...
4-0 out of 5 stars Really gets you sweatin'!
This is a great video if you like to dance.I loved it. Some of the moves remind me of my highschool cheerleading days. But it is tricky to learn at first. Just stick with it and once you get it you'll be on your way to burning lots of fat!

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun, great workout!
I bought this video because I was bored staring at a wall while running on my treadmill and using my stationary bike. Let me tel you... this is a lot more interesting! I have had a lot of fun learning the dance routine. The first 2 times you do the workout, you might have to rewind the video occasionally if you miss a step, but it's not too difficuly, especially if you like to dance. While this is no super cardio workout, it's still works you some... and it's well worth the time.Read more

Ready for a high-energy, low-impact, hip-hop workout? Designed for the youthful exerciser (the heart-rate chart goes from age 15 to 50), this 50-minute video has upbeat dancers, cool moves, and MTV music. 1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
The whole tape is really boring and dated, and the dance moves are just repetitions of each other. How can a routine be at all interesting if it's just adding one move to the next and repeating it from the beginning, then in the end doing the same thing over and over????Very disappointing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video and fun...
I love this video I bought all the Grind videos along time ago and I love them all but I think Hip Hop is my favorite.I have a blast doing these vieos and wish that they would come out on DVD so I can upgrade from VHS to DVD.I personally find them fun and full of "exercise can be fun" attitude.Check these videos out if you liked the Grind on MTV or if you like dancing as everything is broken down so that you can pick up the moves.

2-0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack very soft
As others have said, this is a fun workout even if the music/hair/outfits are somewhat dated. My biggest issue is that the sound quality is pretty awful - you can hardly hear the music behind the vocal instructions! And working out without music just isn't that much fun. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Power Yoga
I bought this DVD several years ago and I like the variety of the poses and difficulty level of the video. My biggest problem with the video is that either its because of the speed of transition between poses or because one second you head is facing up and then its down, I find that I get VERY LIGHT HEADED.Also at the end of the work out I don't really find that peaceful relaxed feeling that I get from other vidoes like Ali McGraw Total Mind and Body.I find that I often follow my own variations of the poses that I've picked up from other videos because they sometimes feel more natural to me and sometimes I just can't do the pose in the length of time that is allowed to keep up with the instructor.I still play this workout occasionally when I want some variety to my exercise and over all I think it's a good video.

4-0 out of 5 stars SURPRISE - it IS really good!
My friend received 2 copies of this DVD for Christmas, so she gave me one, assuring me that "no, Jen, it really is good".I am very skeptical of anything bearing the MTV label, but was happy to see BT did the soundtrack (I love electronic music, especially trance and progressive).
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a yoga beginner
As someone who had NEVER done yoga before and was fairly inflexible, I found the video to be good for a beginner willing to try yoga for the first time. I did struggle through it the first, second, and maybe third time learning the positions, but once you get a good general idea of the video it's easy to follow, with variations on the positions as you advance. The music is good, and it really improved my flexibility. Paired with cardio (in my case, swimming) I think it could be a great variation from a normal workout routine. Within about a month (maybe a little more) I could do most of the second (and much harder) MTV yoga DVD. I think it's important to stress, though, that I feel this DVD is best suited for beginners - for those with a lot of previous yoga experience it could prove too easy or too tedious. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Daily Burn is an Awesome Workout Tape
I love this video.I am a very advanced dancer and I am advanced in aerobic workouts. This video is more for advanced dancers. But if You keep on trying after a little while you'll get so used to it and you will have a blast just like I always do.Most MTV dance videos are great.I have a nice collection of them. They also helped me,a teen, lose 54 pounds!

2-0 out of 5 stars Fun for a while.. AND VERY easy (moves are hard though)
I bought this video because I enjoyed the GRIND videos (also by MTV) so I decided to try this one.Well.. it can be fun for a while, but soon gets VERY boring! 2-0 out of 5 stars fun but REALLY EASY!
This is a fun video, but it gets boring very fast! For someone who just wants a fun video to do, this is good, but for high intensity aerobic exercise, no.. this doesn't really do much..Read more

"Whassup?" welcomes Eric Nies. This 50-minute MTV production from 1996is a hip, edgy, dance workout in an outdoor city setting. The Grind Dancers (both male and female, and all endowed with youth and muscle) present a "jamming dance routine," followed by a short segment of strength moves. In the long and highly choreographed aerobic segment, the instructors demonstrate a new dance move, then break it down, then invite you to join them. Each move is added on to the ones before until a whole MTV-style routine emerges. Coordination definitely required! This isn't as much an aerobic workout as it is a dance class until you learn the routine because you're constantly stopping and starting. Once you've learned it, they repeat the routine over and over, and sweat will pour.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my old favorites
This was one of the first exercise videos that I ever did and I've enjoyed it for more than a few years now.The opening warm up is much longer than most of the other videos I own and it stretches a lot more muscles than, say, the Cardio series does.A good 45 minutes long, the people in it teach the dance steps one at a time and constantly repeat them to ensure that the viewer understands them. The camera work is decent - it doesn't go into too many close-ups and allows the viewer to see the foot movements - and the people actually doing the exercises aren't nearly so godawful annoying as many other of the dancers on other exercise videos are.(Cardio Salsa, I'm lookin' at you!)2-0 out of 5 stars barely broke a sweat!
This video did very little for me.Not only was the warm-up too short, the actual dance with each combo gets old real fast.By the third time I did the video I knew the dance and just wanted them to get on with it and stop explaining.Good for low impact or for people with a lack of coordination. If yer looking for a good cardio this video comes up short. And let me tell you, you wont be catching me do any of these moves at a club!

This tough, total-body workout is for the experienced exerciser with stamina and strength. You might expect a MTV workout to be a dance routine, but this one is rugged and pure athletics. Instructor Keith Byard and his two female exercisers first present an intense cardio segment (sometimes using a step) with athletic and boxing moves, such as squats, jumping jacks, kicks, jabs, and lunges, done with enough repetition to make you feel the burn. One participant shows modifications, but even so, this workout is not for the beginner. Next you alternate free weights and push ups to work the upper body, then you work the lower body using your body weight, followed by a killer abdominal segment. After your rigorous workout, relax with a 30-minute yoga session taught by Courtney Tarpley. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Annoying Voice & Breathing
I had the hardest difficulty following the instructor in the video because the way he spoke and breathed in.It's very irritating. For this video, you need a step.I just forward to the end and do the yoga.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who needs a gym? This video is all you need!!!
This workout will work ALL of your muscles & it is so much fun!! Keith (the instructor) is very motivating & he takes you through a challenging workout in which you will need a pair of hand weights, a step (optional)& keep some water nearby because you will need to keep hydrated.I don't own a step & the moves are very simple to follow (trust me your legs will be sore the next day!!!!) He has 2 girls working out with him, one does the beginner version & the other the advanced exercises. A great thing about this video is that several times they have you check your heart rate against a chart on the screen to make sure you're on track. When choosing your hand weights don't use a pair that is too heavy because he will alternate between weights and doing push ups in between, so your arms will get quite a workout!! After doing this workout a few days a week you will notice a difference in your body, but remember that a healthy way of eating plays a big role too! Keith ends with a relaxing cool down and there is a yoga segment following the workout led by another instructor but I have other yoga videos that I prefer to do.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gets your heartrate up there
My rating is for the workout itself, not the production quality. This workout is great for working up a sweat and getting your heart rate into your target zone for burning fat. The upper body and ab segments are challenging, the lower body segment is good if you have heavier weights. The instructor's cues don't always come when you need them, and the counting is a little screwy, but the moves are basic enough that you can keep going without losing tempo. I like having two sets of dumbbells for this one, because your arms really start to burn at the end of the upper body portion (use your light ones for the warmup to add intensity). I love the yoga segment. It is my favorite (along with Ali MacGraw Yoga and Living Arts Lower Body Yoga with Suzanne Deason). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Worst of all the Grind Tapes....
I think this is the worst Grind video ever made. I don't care for C-Note in it and I don't like the fact that Eric is not in this one as he is a great workout leader. It is also a boring video as it tends to drag on and on and then when it gets good if you have carpet some moves can be hard to do.My advise is to skip this one and go for one of the other Grind videos.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hotttttttttt Young Men, but....
That now is my main attraction to the tape because the instruction is so well-done it drags onnnnnnnn and onnnnnnnn... However it is an interesting, unique concept - the mixture of dance and gentle martial arts moves, but... there's too much talking and not enough moving. It takes forever to gain momentum then when you nail the sequence they move on to the next endlessly-long break-down of instruction. This tape does have a great *fun* engergy level, it's sexy, and if you like gazing at male 20-somethings in their resplendent, physical prime, it's hard to go wrong. In fact...even when I'm mentally critquing this tape's bad points, I'm praising the physical beauty that abounds. Men, men, men. 4-0 out of 5 stars I Loved It
This video was kind of hard at first, but once I got the routine down, I absolutely loved it.I love to dance and this workout was more like a dance than any exercise video I had ever done before.Plus, I lost about 10 lbs., after about 4-5weeks of doing it 4 days a week. So, if you love to dance this one is definitely one for you!!!! ... Read more

MTV and yoga? The two concepts don’t go together as naturally as, say, Siegfried and Roy. 2-0 out of 5 stars Jesse! Do the modified poses!
Two and a half stars.I think the routine is fun but the alignment is horrible! The routine is a little different which is nice, sure some of the poses should be held for five breaths but that is not a big complaint for me it is just not as challenging as it could be.My foundation in yoga is Iyengar which I bring into all other yoga, so when I saw the way the asanas are executed I was appalled, especially with Jesse who is supposed to be demonstrating the more advanced version of the pose.Jesse can't stack his shoulders, keep his hips aligned, has a rounded back, shrugged shoulders, does not know proper foot placement or stance, basically don't do anything he does!If he does not improve his alignment, he will have serious lower back problems. The instuctors alignment is decent but her hips are not always aligned.Challenge yourself and square or parallel your hips in standing split and down dog split, it is a lot more challenging than opening the hips like they do.Also the music is pretty cheesy, MTV used to be cutting edge in musicbut now they are just mainstream commercial hacks.
2-0 out of 5 stars Good workout, lousy instruction
This is a challenging workout designed to get your heart pumping and muslces revving, which is exactly what I was looking for -- but there are several issues with it. I don't even mind that there's no warm up -- I can easily do one on my own. But there are other things that are less forgivable.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally MTV has a Super Hit
I refrained from buying this DVD over the negative reviews stating it was too fast, not really yoga, etc...Plus, I thought to myself, "How can anything produced by MTV be anything but a trite waste of time?"Now I am sorry I waited so long to purchase this high energy, fun, upbeat way to work my entire body, increase my energy, and focus my mind.First, those who think the interesting opening , crescent lunge salutations are too fast need to merely practice and practice this maneuvre the way someone would learn a complex dance routine or memorize lines in a script.Meditation, the true mind/body link can occur with any yogic sequence once the physical movements are first completely studied and learned.Realize that even though this workout may move at a faster rate than five breath Ashtanga asana holds, it is still way slower than Kundalini yoga kriyas like the Warrior Workout.Having studied both Kundalini and Ashtanga and possessing a vast power yoga library including most of Baptiste and Kest, I was shocked to discover how incredible and concise this product is.I love learning new techniques and upon first watching this shockingly energetic video, I became obsessed with learning the first salutation which requires both mental and physical coordination. Each time I do this workout, I feel more meditative, more in control, and more alert. At first I assumed I would injure myself doing something in it (having hip and occasional back problems), but was amazed at how I felt very evenly worked out, more flexible, and ready to glide through life. Also, I think Kristen's breath pacing during the standing pose sequence was as good as any other DVD I own.If you love a great short 50 minute workout and aren't afraid to tackle initially intimidating movements, you will live this MTV super hit. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS!
It has a real group of people and different levels all together in one workout. you can follow what one person is doing or another depending on your preference of difficulty

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
MTV Pilates is a great workout tool. As a beginner, I have integrated this video to suppliment my gym visits and diet. It is not difficult to get control of the movements, and there are different levels to watch. It is true that the music isn't the best. However, more times than not, I don't notice the music, because I am focusing on the task at hand.

She does all the pilates moves from the classes I have taken. She has people working at a beginner, intermediate, and advanced level so as you master the moves you can challenge yourself. And I love that it's only around 35 minutes. It's perfect for those days when you want to fit a workout in but you don't have that much time. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars At least you get pumped
Well, I don't think anyone would disagree that Amy Acuff is wasted time and space on the video. I personally like the music and love the workout. The good thing is no matter how much of an idiot as a beginner one is, there is no way in hell you can be worse than Amy. But the pump is a goody and well worth the $8.00 I am spending to get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars best workout ever
This is my favorite video ever and I have been doing workout videos for a long time.To get the bad stuff out of the way, yes Amy is a total spazz and the girl behind Alan apparantely thinks it's a cheerleading video instead of kickboxing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great pack !
I had been wanting to get into yoga for awhile, but I thought I might want to try pilates and I couldn't make up my mind, but then I found this pack. They all have good workout music, but don't expect words, its just music. My fav is the yoga, pilates was a bit hard for me (this is from a person who has never done yoga and barely ever worked out) and power yoga is ok after you get the hang of yoga. I highly recommend this for begginers or intermediate (they have begginer, intermediate, and advanced positions on each tape.) :)

1-0 out of 5 stars ARG!!!!
I hate these videos. They move too fast for beginers and are usless for anyone else. Do not buy these, it is a waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good
This is a surprisingly good three-pack, I must say. I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered it -- it is released by MTV, after all -- but I've done all three workouts and I really like each one, especially when released together. The Power Yoga might not be a good purchase on its own because it's really Part II of the regular Yoga tape (as in, you learn the basics in Yoga and then can catch onto the Power Yoga much easier than if you did the latter first), but the other two stand on their own as well.Read more
