5-0 out of 5 stars On a Tributary of the Amazon
We had the pleasure of seeing this the other night in San Francisco at the Castro Theater, in dual projection 3-D against a silver screen.Flimsy little glasses were provided to help blend the images poppped out onto the screen by the twin projectors. It must have cost a mint just to stage this show, but happily the event was packed with like minded Creature lovers and everyone cheered, ooeh and aahed as soon as the Brazilian diggers uncover, in a solid block of limestone, the skeletonized hand of a long dead Creature, its webbed fingers beckoning right out over the audience's heads! It was a powerful punch to the solar plexus and a reminder that even archaeology has its thrills.
5-0 out of 5 stars Julia Adams as the Beauty.
The Creature has a good reason for wanting Julia Adams for his own! She wears this hot bikini thoughout most of the movie, revealing much of her legs and figure. A dicription of her throughout the movie would be, Long black beautiful hair, small tight frilly bikini revealing her breast figure, most of back is naked , and so are shoulders. The bathing suit comes up short on her hips revealing both legs. Barefoot throughout the whole movie. You might say half naked! If you are looking for a movie with true American beauty, watch Julia Adams in {The Creature From the Black Lagoon}

5-0 out of 5 stars In the beginning.......
The 1954 classic available for your own collection! This is more than just another talkie. This is sort of a peice of cinema history. The classic beauty and the beast story is told in a wonderul way! With great underwater shots and fairly good special effects, this is a wonderful item for anyone to own. I think what I liked most about it is that it was a little bit different than all the other monster flicks. Beacuse you really feel sorry for the Creature when he gets shot. I think one of my favorite scenes was when he bust's the cage and and escaped the ship. There are just so many wonderful things about this movie. Like how well Rieu Browningswam in that heavy suit, and the classic scene where Julia Adams decides to go take a swim, not knowing that the Creature was trieing to get her attention below. And Finally after a bunch of lousey attemps to steal his precios beuaty, he sneaks on the boat and walks up behind her, puts her over his shoulder and carrys her down to his watery home. Let me point out that Julia Adams is lousey screamer for monster movie's! Not very important considering she is so beautiful throughout the movie, but definetley no Fay Wray. One of the best clips is when the Gill Man lifts up his hand out of the water and almost grabsthe girls foot, but she moves in the nick of time! The first time I ever saw this however, I was a little disapointed with how sort of sudden it ended. Right after the guys come to Julia's rescue, they shoot him and he wobbles back into the ocean and die's.Maybe a little too breif I thought. However there are two sequels after the original, that showed the Creatures sad encouters with mankind and civilization. This will always be one of my favorite movies and Im sure you'll enjoy it if you havent already seen it. Seen it or havent, it is a spectacular movie to own, and I also reccomend the two seqeuls.

4-0 out of 5 stars A worthy sequel
I just saw Dawn of the Dead for the first time. I actually saw the remake first, which I liked. And, of course, I've seen the terrifying Night of the Living Dead many, many times and will probably see it again this Halloween. So going in, Dawn of the Dead was a little behind the eight ball, so to speak. But considering the large number of preconceived notions I had regarding the film, I did enjoy it and would recommend it. A con and a pro:
5-0 out of 5 stars The Shopping Mall is filled with flesh-eating zombies.
With the success of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968), a must-see for every horror movie buff, George A. Romero, 11 years later, in 1979, made a sequel, DAWN OF THE DEAD (1979) in living color (and dead too). This time, he could really be bloody and gruesome.
5-0 out of 5 stars That scene with the biker in the mall...
The single most horrid, gory, bloody, gutty scene ever in a zombie movie that I know of, and it deserves a play-by-play:

1-0 out of 5 stars Could you last from dusk to dawn?
I don't know how I managed to see this gory splatterfest TWICE in college. It's a terrible movie (next to that other awful movie "Wild Wild West" which also stars Salma Hayek)
4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Tarintino
Watching this movie is like viewing two separate movies that are loosely related. The first half is classic Tarintino with excellent dialogue and bizarre situations. The second half is entirely different than anything Q.T. has ever done. At first I didn't like it, because I was hoping for another Pulp fiction, but after I let it stand on its own I realized it is very good.
5-0 out of 5 stars Tarentino Strikes Again
After the superb masterpiece Pulp Fiction, came From Dusk Till Dawn (1995) which continued the genius Quentin Tarantinos consistent flair for startling origanality and diversity.

Editorial Review

The peculiar genius of schlock-king Roger Corman is in full bloom with this extremely gory, pointedly offensive homage to 1950s monster movies (with a generous helping of Alien thrown in for good measure), in which a legion of mutated salmon-men terrorize a small town in their search for unwilling female companionship. (Potential viewers should be warned that this movie goes to great lengths to show what earlier films in this genre had only implied.) A guilty pleasure for exploitation fans with a strong stomach and a twisted sense of humor. For what it's worth, director Barbara Peters has claimed that additional shock scenes were inserted by producer Corman without her knowledge. The glop-intensive special effects were devised by Rob Bottin, who later went on to gross out the masses with his work on Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A TRUE GORE MASTERPIECE, FROM THE AGE OF GORE (1978-1983)
HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP WAS RELEASED DURING THE AGE OF GORE (1978-1983) IN 1980. INCREDIBLE FILM TRANSFER PICTURE IS NICE AND CRISP AND AUDIO IS LOUD. AN INTERVIEW WITH ROGER CORMAN DONE BY LEONARD MALTIN IS REALLY A NICE FEATURE ON THIS DVD RELEASE, THERE ARE ALSO A FEW OTHER TRAILERS FROM OTHER ROGER CORMAN MOVIES ON THIS DVD, ALONG WITH TALENT BIOS. ROGER CORMAN REALLY STRUCK A CORD WITH GORE FANS WITH HUMANOIDS. HUMANOIDS IS 80 MINUTES JUST LIKE THE OLD 1950S SCI-FI MOVIES. BARBARA PETERS DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB DIRECTING THIS MOVIE. VIC MORROW PLAYS HANK SLATTERY SO WELL THAT I COULD REALLY BELIEVE THIS HANK CHARACHTER EXISTED. DOUG MCCLURE PLAYS THE CALM AND STEADY JIM HILL. ANN TURKELL A BELIEVABLE SCIENTIST.ALL THE OTHER LESSER KNOWN ACTORS REALLY FUSED THE SCRIPT AND THE STORY OF HUMANOIDS REALLY WELL. A YOUNG ROB BOTTIN DOES AN AWESOME JOB IN THE SPECIAL EFFECTS OF THE MUTATED HUMANOIDS, ROB BOTTINS EFFECTS WORK WAS DONE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF HUMANOIDS IN 1979, WAY BEFORE COMPUTER ANIMATION. I THINK THE EFFECTS WERE QUITE BELIEVABLE EVEN THEN IN 1980 AND EVEN TODAY. THE HUMANOIDS ARE A REALLY BELIEVABLE MONSTER, LONG TEETH, LONG SHARP CLAWS.I COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT THEIR SCREECHING AND WAILING BUT I THINK IT FIT THE HUMANOIDS PERFECT. EXCELLENTLY WRITTEN STORY BY FRANK ARNOLD AND MARTIN B.COHEN. THE ENDING TO HUMANOIDS WAS SHOCKING FOR ITS TIME, BUT REALLY QUITE COMMON AS WITH GORE MOVIES AT THIS TIME (1978-1983). DIRECTORS AND WRITERS OF THIS FILM GENRE WERE ALWAYS TRYING TO SHOCK FILM AUDIENCES WITH GORY EFFECTS DURING THIS TIME IN THE FILM INDUSTRY. KEEP IN MIND HUMANOIDS CAME OUT DURING THE AGE OF GORE BUT ALSO BEFORE THE MPAA GOT INVOLVED IN CONTROLLING CONTENT IN MOTION PICTURES. HORROR GORE MOVIES LIKE HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP GOT AWAY WITH ALOT OF REALLY GORY EFFECTS. THIS MOVIE SHOULD, I HOPE WILL KEEP YOUR INTEREST, THE THING I LIKE ABOUT HUMANOIDS IS THE BLACK HUMOR, BLACK HUMOR ASIDE,VIEWING THE END OF HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP WILL LEAVE YOU THINKING "WHAT IF THIS REALLY HAPPENED?". IF YOU HAVE 80 MINUTES TO SPARE ON SOMETHING WILD WATCH HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP THERE IS LOTS OF GORE AND ANAWESOME CLASSICAL SOUNDTRACK BY A YOUNG JAMES HORNER, GREAT ROB BOTTIN MONSTER EFFECTS, POLITICAL ISSUES ABOUT OVER LANDDEVELOPMENT, AND BY THE WAY A FEW GEORGEOUS LADIES TO AD TO THIS SHLOCK FEST.

5-0 out of 5 stars Been There, Done It!!
I've read the reviews from all 37...and a big kudos to you all for watching this movie. I was a paid extra in the movie(senior year in high school) i can say it was alot of fun being a mindless humanoid when the stunt man refused to get in the suit. Spending my time next to a gas burner to keep us warm at 3:30 in the morning waiting for the next shot. i have great memories of us extras dining with Doug, Vic, Anthony, Ann, Barbra. The movie was campy fun and a definite B movie of desperate measure.

3-0 out of 5 stars So Bad it's Almost Good
Doug McClure established himself as Trampas on tv's "Virginian" that ran from 1962 to 1971.After "The Virginian" McClure had a hit or miss career in the movies. This particular movie is a campy bit of fun that is most assuredly not a family movie, though teenage boys will likely figure out a way to watch it.

Private eye Rafe Guttman (Dennis Miller) is hired by repressed,born-again Katherine (Erika Eleniak) to find her missing bad-boy brother. The trail leads him to a whorehouse run by a thousand-year-old vampire (Angie Everhart) and secretly backed by Katherine's boss, televangelist Jimmy Current (Chris Sarandon, wonderfully insincere and smarmy). Not for the squeamish or the easily offended (but you knew that from the title), Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good But Not Great
While not as good as Demon Knight, Bordello of Blood is more than the porn it seems by first glance. The movie just misses some things that the first film had. One thing being that the cast in this film is a lot weaker than what was in the original. Can you imagine Dennis Miller as the hero? It's a little too farfetched to believe. Not saying that he is bad in the film, but he just wasn't that great. But he did bring his famous sarcasm to this movie. I did, however, like Christopher Sarandon as the preacher.
1-0 out of 5 stars Somebody Stop Corey Feldman!
Let's give Corey Feldman some credit. He was great in Stand By Me and Friday the 13th 4 and even Lost Boys...when he was a kid.(I even had the chance to work with him on 'Stormtrooper' he is without a doubt a talented actor and a genuinely nice guy)But... Somebody needs to be the one to tell him that his career is over.He tries too hard to 'play it tough'in this one.(obviously embarrassed by his Michael Jackson friendship and that film where he was a Jackson look-alike) In this turd from a once respectable studio, Bordello of Blood also stars a mis-cast Chris Sarandon and a never funny Dennis Miller. A vampire movie with hookers is a cool idea, but Rodriquez and Tarantino did it much better with From Dusk Till Dawn. Also, a horror-comedy still has to be funny, right? This piece of cinematic dung was brought to the screen by some very famous directors ( Robert Zemeckis and Walter Hill)and the TV series wasn't that bad. It just cannot make the transition to the big screen. For example, everything from the casting down to the crappy set design and cheapo FX( So bad they make Battlestar Galactica look like genius)not to mention the cheesy puppet Cryptkeeper. The one scene I care never to see again: Feldman, wearing phony-looking teeth and a plastic make-up appliance on his face( which is about to fall off at any moment-Shame on you, FX Guy! For shame!)
1-0 out of 5 stars 0 STARS:Sorry excuse for a vampire movie
When I first saw "Bordello Blood", I was so disappointed in Dennis Miller...he is a good actor in certain situations, but for his to do garbage like this is inexcusable. In fact, Miller looked more ridiculous in this movie than he did as a MNF analyst. This movie was supposed to be a vampire movie and while there are some vampires in it, one can easily see that this movie is a total joke and the crypt keeper and others involved in the making of this movie had to laughing when they made it knowing it was not scary and not any good. This is a waste of a serious horror movie fan's time...if you want camp humor and lame comedy fine, but don't call this a horror movie.Thank you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars "15 Frightful Horror Films ... Bela Lugosi ... Passport Video"

1-0 out of 5 stars Can your heart stand the shocking facts about grave robbers from outer space?
This is the soundtrack to "The Worst Film of All Time".The CD features the audio track to the entire movie on one disc.Music, dialogue, sound effects, etc.Yes, the sound to the whole darn movie. And it's all on one 70 minute track, which is very annoying. You can't skip ahead to various scenes if you want to.Aside from that, why would you want to just listen to the movie on your CD player, when you could watch it on your TV?It loses a great deal of it's effect without the visual aspect.

3-0 out of 5 stars This was in the theaters?
I picked up "Plan 9" purely for its reputed schlock value. Any movie described on its own cover as one of the 50 worst films of all time has to be worth a look!

2-0 out of 5 stars Human / Vegetable Romance...
OK, this one is terrible if you're a jaded adult. I admit I hated it utterly. However, it's a kid movie. I mean, there's only one "bad" word in the whole movie, zero blood, no nudity, insufferable characters, lots of gunfire / explosions, and 80s TV-movie production values. SWAMP THING himself is a walking compost heap w/ a heart of mold... er, gold. He battles a leach-man and some hicks in order to save two intensely annoying brats and Abigail (Heather Locklear) from certain doom. Abby's step-dad is none other than Dr. Arcane (Louis Jordan), sociopathic megalomaniac and mad scientist. Arcane's looking for a way to reverse the aging process, apparently by turning people into mutated freakazoids! I found this movie tedious and dumb, but I know I'd have loved it as a kid. Swampy even shows Abby some good ol' fashioned swamp-love! Hallucinegenic seedpods anyone?? So, shift yer brain into neutral and coast through this one! P.S.- If you're just looking for a good Jim Wynorski movie, check out CHOPPING MALL...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great silly sequel!
The original film by Wes Craven was a tiny bit darker but still had lots of dark humor etc... This sequel seeks to be more campy and just plain fun. Its a fun film that just cant be taken seriously, like MOST B Movies! However it did do well enough to generate a tv show!

5-0 out of 5 stars For those of us who "get" it, a masterpiece.
I guess you either "get" this sort of fun cheesey movie, or you don't. This is one of my all time favorites, ever since I was a kid. Better than the first movie, especially the Swamp Thing suit. Return of Swamp Thing is a fun, entertaining classic flick. It's not supposed to be scary, or complex. Just enjoy it!!

Editorial Review

John Frankenheimer updates the mutant-monster films of the 1950s with a modern environmental twist in this well-meaning but cliché-ridden late-'70s horror film. Robert Foxworth is so earnest it hurts as a rabble-rousing ghetto doctor who packs up his pregnant wife (Talia Shire) and heads out to the Maine woods to investigate claims of environmental pollution. That's the least of his concerns when a gooey mutant grizzly goes on the rampage and he joins forces with Native American activist Armand Assante (wearing his humorless resolve like war paint) to get out of the woods. Frankenheimer is a good director saddled with a bad, blunt script, and like a pro he delivers the requisite gore and even racks up the tension in a terrific opening chase. But even he can't overcome the clumsiest collection of deformed woodland creatures to claw their way through a monster movie. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent "Nature-Runs-Amok" Flick (Mutated Nature No Less)
"Prophecy" was in the theaters at the very same time as the popular "Alien" back in 1979. I was 15 at the time and had the choice of seeing either one; I picked "Prophecy" only because I was so intrigued by the 15-foot tall grotesque monster that was supposed to be in the film. As it turned out, I thought the film was merely okay. "Alien" was a fair hit at the box office (with a far better monster) while "Prophecy" didn't do very well, causing director John Frankenheimer to plummet into a depression.
4-0 out of 5 stars Ecologistmovie with monster
Behind its shocking design of horror movie with monster, we find an interesting film that connects with that praisely spirit of someB-serial movies in its effort to combine entertainment with a sensitive social message. Directed in 1979 by John Frankenheimer( " Man of Alcatraz "; " The manchurian candidate " ) the film moves between some stereotypes of 70's horror films and the environmental caution warning. The "monster" of the cover's design is a very angry grizzly bear, one of the many victims of genetic mutations due to toxic industrial resides poured out in the waters of the supposedly protected woods of Maine. Frankenheimer takes advantage of the plot to introduce a political intrigue. A very convincing movie that it's worthwhile to take a look.
2-0 out of 5 stars a throw back to the big monster moviesof the 50's
this movie is really silly and fun in the "so bad it's good" area.the monster(an inside/out bear!!!!) is really bad looking but the story of water pollated by a heartless company is really just a 50's big bug movie redone for the 70's. great fun if you get into the feel of it ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bad Movies Don't Get Any Better Than This!
Phil Tucker's magnum opus, "Robot Monster", ranks among the best bad movies ever made.
4-0 out of 5 stars Ro-man Hollandaise -- Yummy!
Though some fans of "bad" cinema often put 1953's ROBOT MONSTER on the same tier with PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE (1959), it honestly doesn't even come close to reaching the heights of inspired ineptitude attained by Ed Wood's magnum opus. Still, ROBOT MONSTER is an entertaining so-bad-it's-good flick in its own right.
3-0 out of 5 stars Drek from the Fifties
After watching this movie to the point where we see the Robot Monster stride about a desert-like landscape, I backed up to the beginning to see if Ed Wood had somehow had a hand in this film; he does not. After seeing this movie, I wonder why anyone would still want their name associated with it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Zombie Island Misrepresentation
This is not a zombie movie (warning: spoiler will follow). Even with its bad acting and horrible lighting (could be the tape) this is an at times enjoyable mystery which uses the zombie theme to throw the viewer off the track of what is really happening. A group of tourists take a visit to an island apparently in the Carribean (I know; not much more specific than saying an island surrounded by water) where they take a bus to an outdoor ritual apparently being performed to raise a zombie. A commotion occurs during the ritual sending the tourists hurrying back to the bus only to find the driver and the distributor cap missing. They decide to trek to a house one of the tourists recalls seeing on the way to the ritual to hopefully call for help. They are pursued by a creature dressed as a bush (no, I do not know what kind of bush). One by one the tourists are being offed mysteriously on the way to the house until only a handful of them make it to the house to hold up against whatever is pursuing them. As it turns out, one of them is carrying a payoff for a shipment of drugs and the pursuers are after the drug traffickers (just using the so-called zombie tactics for the element of fear). The first half hour of this film drags, however, after that it does maintain an element of suspense. It is not a particularly intelligent movie, but it may appeal to someone who would like a mystery with a supernatural backdrop.-Bob

1-0 out of 5 stars It Sucks
This movie sucks it has nothing to do with zombies all the movie is about is group of Americans who decide to visit an island and witness a voodoo ritual and eventually get killed off by some guys that dress like ninjas or some crap! Don't waste your time with this movie.

We can hardly imagine how shocking this film was when it first broke into the film scene in 1968.There's never been anything quite like it again, though there have been numerous pale imitations. Part of the terror lies in the fact that it is shot in such a raw and unadorned fashion that it feels like a home movie, and is all the more authentic because of that.It draws us into its world gradually, content to establish a merely spooky atmosphere before leading us through a horrifically logical progression that we hardly could have anticipated. The story is simple: Radiation from a fallen satellite has caused the dead to walk, and hunger for human flesh.Once bitten, you become one of them. And the only way to kill one is by a shot or blow to the head.We follow a group holed up in a small farmhouse who are trying to fend off the inevitable onslaught of the dead. The tension between the members of this unstable, makeshift community drives the film.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "They're coming to get you Barbra!"
On October 1, 1968, George A. Romero released his black & white low budget horror film, "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD".Their had been nothing like it before and in 1968, it scared the water out of many people. It is now considered a cult classic and has many numerous midnite showings at drive-ins and theatres.
5-0 out of 5 stars Way ahead of its time.
Prior to purchasing the Elite Version of this movie I ahd only the 2-Disc 30th Anniversary one.Well you know the story on that one.I figured I need to watch the movie like it was meant to be so I purchased the Elite edition.I am impressed with this movie period. It was way ahead of it's time. This paved the way for countless of zombie films that followed,a nd although Romero didn't originate the zombie genre, he certainly reinvented it.Great film. Worthy addition to any library.
