Editorial Review

Molly Fox is a veteran instructor who has been in fitness for a couple of decades, and her experience shows. She is friendly and personable, and teaches clearly. This 51-minute aerobic workout is from 1989, but that doesn't outdate the effectiveness. The moves are mostly simple--lots of walks, step-touches, and lunges, for example--with plenty of repetition. The choreography never gets more complicated than a turning grapevine, and usually it is simpler than that. Fox includes a couple of impact moves, such as jumping rope and a plié jump that is similar to a jumping jack. (It would have been helpful to have someone in the class demonstrating low-impact modifications for exercisers who would rather not jump.) Each time she adds a new move, Fox repeats it until you get it, then strings it onto the moves you've already done, so you're building a sequence and repeating the first moves through the whole workout. The music is both low-key and low-volume, used mainly as background and to keep the beat, rather than to add excitement. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars May Be Risky For Many Folks, Especially Those New To Yoga
By way of background, I have been practicing Yoga daily for over 7 years, have over 70 yoga videos and study with a wonderful teacher. I'm definitely no stranger to Yoga or Yoga video/DVD programs.2-0 out of 5 stars Stick with Living Arts
I really like the living arts yoga series, but wanted to try something different.Molly Fox wasnt it.I found her difficult to follow- as she moved very quickly- I felt more like I was doing jane fonda than yoga. She gave no instruction to what she was doing, just ok, move into this pose, now this one, now this one- - god help me if I blinked! Not relaxing until the absolute very end- Also the quality of the dvd was [bad]- it looked & sounded like it was recorded in a basement and then burned onto a dvd.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Yoga Video I've seen
I've used various yoga dvds but find this one the best. The instructor goes slowly and is very encouraging. She doesn't try to show off like some instructors. She tells you "this may be hard for you at first.Don't feel bad.Keep at it!"That's just what I need to hear!I personally ahve lower back problems and found this routine very good for stretching the backand hips.Give it a try! ... Editorial Review

This is a reissue of a 40-minute workout video from 1989, consisting of traditional floor work that targets the thighs, buttocks, and abdominals. After a good warm-up, you use a mat and towel for a varied series of thigh and buttock exercises. You don't need any weights for these exercises. (However, realize that traditional floor work is not as effective for strengthening and shaping the lower-body muscles as exercises performed with weights, or as functional as those done in a standing position.) After the buttocks and thighs, Fox does a strong seven minutes of challenging abdominal exercises, including several reverse curl variations. Her cueing and alignment tips are excellent, including modifications and explanations of why you're performing the exercise in a certain way. Her stretch sequence at the end is thorough, effectively releasing every muscle group worked in the video. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Molly Fox's Yoga Sculpts
I have been using this DVD for a few years now, and I'm continually surprised at what a great work out it provides. I have been practicing yoga for several years and I found her instruction to be clear and her tips for the poses helpful in intensifying the workout. While this may not be the best for beginners, this DVD is a good one for intermediate level yoga.

1-0 out of 5 stars No Star Review
If you would like a recycled aerobics, sports trainer person teaching yoga, then this is the DVD for you. I wasn't looking for a spiritual journey, but I object to the repackaging and marketing approach.I know this will sound disrespectful, take this as one person's opinion, I found the entire format a farce.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beginners Beware.....
After reading all the reviews, I decided to branch out and try this....I was extremely disappointed.Molly doesn't use the names of the poses very often and will move without sharing what she is doing in detail. Therefore, you will be left in a pose waiting to move. She also does a lot of "jumping" - I found this obnoxious. Not at all the flowing Yoga I enjoy - beginners - this isn't for you.Try "Crunch - The perfect Yoga Workout."It's worth your money. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Spacy
This one is not for me. I found the instructor a bit too well, spacy for lack of a better word. I'm sure if one can do it then its probably good for you but there is no breadown of the movements and its too repetitive. I'll try to persevere for a week or so more...if not meet me at the marketplace and you can have it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Stay away if you have knee problems!!
This workout is extremely boring. Molly Fox repeats the same routines over and over again--you will be thoroughly tired of Sun Salutation. My knees aren't the best ever, so this workout which is heavy on bending exercises is too much. If you have knee problems from running, jogging or weights-- stay clear of this tape-- it won't really help you while you're recuperating.

1-0 out of 5 stars This isn't YOGA....
...it's modern dance! Go for Molly Fox's Yoga Sculpts or Stretches and Relaxes if you really want Yoga! ... Read more

Editorial Review

This 40-minute body-conditioning workout is an older program from 1989. Instructor Molly Fox is personable and cues very clearly, including alignment tips. You'll need two sets of free weights (dumbbells): one heavier pair and one lighter pair (the exact poundage depends on your strength and experience). The workout covers most muscle groups effectively, except that occasionally an exercise doesn't primarily work the muscles Fox intends because of the body position. For example, you're standing up, holding weights with the elbows at chest height and bent at a right angle. You press the elbows together, working the chest, right? Wrong--because gravity is pulling the weights down, so the shoulder muscles are doing most of the work, not the chest. (The problem would be eliminated by lying on your back instead of standing up, so that the chest moves the weights against gravity.) Some of the moves are done more quickly than is optimal for control and strengthening. Otherwise, this challenging workout will test your muscle endurance and make your muscles burn. Read more

Editorial Review

Back in the 1980s, aerobics was king. But since then, the popularity ofyoga has grown. "Power yoga" and other variations geared more toward exercisethan meditation are in vogue in the West, making yoga and aerobics increasinglyalike. Now, with the "Yoga Moves" portion of this two-tape set, Molly Foxattempts to erase the distinction completely. The 45-minute program begins andends with some yoga postures (sun salutations, forward bends and lunges, thedownward dog), but the bulk of it consists of six brief (roughly five minutes)sections of low-impact aerobics, replete with hops, skips, and jumps, knee liftsand side steps, and turns and arm movements familiar to anyone who knows JaneFonda and her aerobic offspring. Fox's choreography is reasonably simple, withlots of repetition; the moves are fun, and a good workout is assured. But is ityoga? Not really. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Yoga for Everyone
This two-video set offers a very different spin on practicing yoga. "Yoga Sculpts" is a fast paced aerobic workout using various yoga postures; and "Yogo Moves" is a dance video combining familar yoga moves. It should be titled,"Creative Yoga for The Advance Student." There's nothing here for the novice or beginning student unless you're looking for a creative or experimental form of expressing yourself using yoga. In "Yoga Moves," Molly Fox leads you through a 50 minute fat-burning workout using dance movement and yoga moves that do little to teach the novice about perfecting the art of yoga. "Yoga Sculpts," offers a 40 minute high impact aerobic workout designed to strenthen and shape the legs, arms and waist while increasing overall muscle definition. These videos work if your looking to break tradition and take yoga to a new age concept. Since the two videos are really not instructional in nature, they could offer a challenge to the advanced student looking for an alternative workout. They are not recommended for the beginner or the unfit. ... Read more
