5-0 out of 5 stars Helped reduce symptoms of stress
I'm a student, and have been really stressed out lately.I started to get an ulcer (I've had one before), experienced restless sleep, and was generally feeling frazzled.I'm a spiritual person, but was feeling spiritually deficit with not enough time in the day.I was desperate and I bought this DVD.
3-0 out of 5 stars Meditation with lots of talking
I was looking for a product that would be a good introduction to yoga, and stress-relief/meditation are always a bonus. This is a good guide to meditation, except that he keeps talking. It would probably work well if you use the techniques to your own music or with the mute button. This product did not do a lot for me, physically.I am fairly active and was looking for a way to do some stretching and refreshing yoga. This is not the right DVD.Good if you want to meditate, but don't buy it if you are looking for physical rather than mental refreshment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mudra Yoga for your Hands
Wow, this is the greatest video to change your life in just a few minutes. Really! Mudras are anceint hand gestures that move energy in the body. It is simple to do and effective. I found the Mudra for anxiety works well. The Mudra for "Unblocking your subconcious mind." Whewww... it works wonders to release all that stress in my brain. I highly reccomend this for anyone. Everyone can do them no back flips or stretching that make say "How do they do that.!"I can feel the energy in my body moving after I do the Mudras video. The video and the Mudra's are a secret that needs to get out to everyone. Everyone will benefit from the Mudras. The Mudras are done with you hands, finger and elbows. "Elbows nice and high."

5-0 out of 5 stars Well-done, excellent way to meditate
I really liked this DVD.The scenery is beautiful and helps you to get relaxed. The gentle music in the background is soothing. You can tell Maritza has been doing this for years. Her voice is easy to listen to and directs you in your practice with ease.Very professionally done. The warm-up yoga portion is effective. Her two different meditation sessions are worth the time and energy to get you in a state of calmness and peacefulness.Give this DVD a try. This DVD helps you to slow down your thoughts and alleviates stress.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great meditation program
This is a wonderful program. I have read many books and tried many ways to meditate and I find this program excellent. I recommend it to all.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST MEDITATION GUIDE I HAVE TRIED
Learning to Meditate is not easy! I have a problem keeping my mind from roaming. I think any time we are serious about learning anything new, most of us are looking for the magic bullet-the ONE perfect answer to making it all happen. This DVD is so far the BEST I've tried. After about a week & a half of consist practice at the same time every morning my mind still wanders, but I can feel a change in the depth of my concentration. Maritza knows you will have a wandering mind, & she tells you in softly accented French to leave judgments behind. The only accompaniment to the Meditation section is Tibetan bells & bowls over a low, non-invasive hum-perfect for bringing your mind to deeper conscious levels.

this video has been a favorite in my library that i turn to often for a "refresher" course in meditation.it serves as a fantastic overview of what one can expect frommeditation.and it covers different meditative techniques such as tratak or candle gazing meditation, meditation on a sound or an image and mantra meditation.it can definitely serve as a starting point for the curious and the beginner as well as the more experienced practitioner of the art of meditation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Graceful
This tape teaches balance and grace.I work with seniors.People don't realize that balance is a major problem with older people. The moves in this tape look for easier than they are.I am still working on this tape.It takes a lot of strength to be this graceful.I hope they follow up with more of this type of tapes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Tai Style -- Unlike any other, almost dancelike
A lovely Tai Chi style that is almost etherial in its beauty. This Mulan Tai Chi style is very unique. In my years of experience in Tai Chi and martial arts I have not seen anything like it.The liquid flow seems to be a very healthful way to practice T'ai Chi, and its ability to develop yin energy is something sorely needed in this day and age.I highly recommend this video program!!

Enthusiastic instructor Dagmar Munn guides viewers through a series of fun, easy movements adapted from traditional tai chi. Although Munn's routine could offer health benefits to anyone, it seems clear that her target audience is those who find strenuous exercise difficult, as she performs a few stretches and a short workout while seated. The warm-up section begins with a series of self-massages to improve flexibility and circulation, followed by Munn's series of low-impact standing exercises. She runs through her whole routine first (it takes about six minutes) before breaking it into individual moves with detailed instructions. Throughout, a multitude of camera angles show exactly what's going on. The simple movements are accentuated with Munn's subtle tips on breathing and her lucid images for each movement, such as polishing a tabletop. It's not orthodox tai chi by a long shot, but offers a thorough, simple workout for those who wish to keep moving without too much huffing and puffing. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than expected
For a beginner in Tai Chi, this was exceptionally good beause the instructions, examples and terminology were easy to understand and follow. The setting for the "class" was appropriate and the music was soothing. The two assistants (or students, I don't know which) were a man who was not especially graceful and an older woman. This showed the viewer that one does not have to be a dancer to perform Tai Chi.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hard to Follow
I found this video hard to follow. I was looking for something easier. Instruction is confusing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome -- Easy to Use & Great for All Ages
I have severe spine and hip problems, and Tai Chi was recommended by my physician. After some research, I decided this sounded like the best introduction -- especially considering my physical limitations. It is perfect in every way, with gentle routines, easy to understand and I'm already feeling the benefits in my flexibility, endurance, balance. It also provides a general all-around good feeling.Read more

"Meditation has no purpose, no objective, except to be entirely here and now." Not an easy concept for the competitive, goal-oriented Western mind, which is precisely one of the things that makes Alan Watts's guide to meditation a fascinating piece of work. Watts, an Englishman who died in 1973 (this piece was shot by filmmaker Elda Hartley in 1971), was an authority on Eastern thought and spiritual practice. Here he guides the viewer through a 25-minute program that's part documentary, part useful guide to meditation. While Watts explains such practical techniques as breathing, posture, and the chanted "aum" mantra, one can just as easily find oneself lost in the kaleidoscope of extraordinarily beautiful, natural images that accompany his words. All in all, those seeking "the naked experience of reality itself" and a connection to "the still, small voice within" will be enchanted by Read more

Katalin Zamiar promises her combination of Tai Chi, Qigong, and Yoga will help practitioners find "balance between the manic and the mundane," and her calm radiance alone is testament to her method. The choice to tape herself alone outdoors in the high desert with meditative background music reinforces the serene atmosphere. She begins the 44-minute program with 20 minutes of uniting breath and movement using standing postures and movements. There are knee bends, balancing poses, and yoga back bends. She makes it easy on beginners by working on legs first and gradually adding arms. The balance of the program is the meditation segment. She talks viewers through it ("Relax your eyes…. Calm your breath.") and then lapses into minutes of silence alternating with intermittent voice-over instructions. If you're not meditating along with her, you're basically watching an attractive woman with a maddeningly flat stomach sit in a cross-legged position for 20 minutes. Read more

There's nothing more important in yoga than the breath. Regardless of how strong or flexible you might be, breathing deeply, fully, and with awareness and control is the key to a fulfilling practice--one that, in instructor Rodney Yee's words, can "eliminate stress and increase inner peace." This tape is divided into two sections, "Conscious Relaxation" and "Conscious Breathing." The first consists of five postures, none of them taxing and all of them employing one or more props (chair, bolster and/or pillow, strap, blankets). The second is devoted to deliberately using the breath to soften, relax, and create body awareness; it includes some instruction in Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An island of peace
Whenever I find the time to do all or even one section of this tape, I am rewarded by a refreshing sense that the world is not so bad after all.I love "the pleasure of the inversion" and my legs thank me! I wish this very tape were available in DVD so my kids could have a copy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best relaxation tool I've found
With Rodney's video, I can relax no matter how stressed I am.I've used his video during a time when I was overwhelmed by many things going on in my life and I was able to find an oasis of peace.

3-0 out of 5 stars frustration for the novice, not relaxation
I like the format of a yoga video filmed out in the desert and I found the gentle music with Rodney's voice is very soothing. The first few poses were easy to follow and relaxing. However, as a novice yoga student, I was totally frustrated trying to follow his rapid directions on how to use the necessary props for some of the later poses and how to get into them, particularly because I couldn't even see from the video the exact prescribed shape and position of the pillow, blankets and bolster he was using and I don't happen to have 2 extra blankets, a bolster, a huge pillow and a strap just sitting around my apartment. What the heck is a bolster, anyway? By the 4th pose all vestiges of my earlier relaxation had gone. There must be some less frustrating way to relax. ... Read more

Whether you have an hour to spare or just a couple minutes, meditation instructor Maneesha James has an appropriate strategy to reduce stress and unwind. She quietly guides a group of women through the longer exercises on mats in a gym-like setting, but she has a series of actresses show shorter techniques in a variety of everyday settings: the car, the office, a train, home. The first 37 minutes are dedicated to demonstrations of 19 of these techniques. For instance, there's "Face-Off," in which the face is made rubbery and contorted, and "Down to Earth," in which the women jump up and down and then plant their feet to connect with the ground. She also leads the group in a fast-forward demonstration of the Osho Kundalini method--an hour-long active meditation that involves shaking, dancing, sitting still, and finally lying down. The last 15 minutes are dedicated to guided meditation, which the viewer can perform as she watches. The tape includes scenes of waterfalls, crashing waves, and other soothing visuals to the background of the composition "A Woman's Heart" by Cobalt Ocean. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars fast-food meditation and that's not bad.
This a video for women who are extremely busy but know the value of a time-out. No matter how full your plate is, you need that quiet moment, not matter how short. This video presents mediation session in short sequences that you can feel free to lengthen on your own or enjoy in the short spurts, especially at lunch or between meetings. It proves that anyone can find the time to meditate. I am a devotee of the meditation videos of Rodney Yee and Maritza; they are the gold standard in meditation. But for those times when I have only a moment to quiet my mind, I reach for Meditation for Busy Women.

5-0 out of 5 stars We really need this (me too and I'm a fellah!)
Maneesha James has successfully managed to introduce some pretty profound spiritual practices into our daily lives with such grace, simplicity and beauty that just watching this video without doing any of the numerous exercises is a great stress reliever in itself. I have watched many similar videos, and most of them seemed to be a little whacky or spaced-out (insert your adjective of choice here) and this is the first one I have seen that I feel many just plain folks can really use and benefit from without dropping out and jumping on a plane to India. The photography of landscapes, rivers, birds, clouds and so on is utterly magnificent - and the interior decors are almost too perfect, but really lovely anyway. It is obvious that Maneesha has achieved real peace in her life and she just oozes friendly wisdom and compassion. Some of the techniques really look like fun - yelling gibberish in the shower - pulling insane faces in a mirror.... 100% recommended! My only niggles are that this video is ideal for us men too (there's no mention of women's special needs here) and you don't have to be young and gorgeous like all the ladies in the video - whether you're a stressed-out schoolkid or an exhausted granny there's something for you all here. Buy it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Gobbledegook-free meditation
Just watching this video and listening to Maneesha James' voice is immensely calming in itself - if my office and home were as minimalist as those shown here, all stress would probably just melt away, and the nature scenes are fresh and pristine and soothing. The numerous simple meditative techniques introduced range from watching the breath to laughing, for no reason at all (!), and, because they are presented in specifically everyday life and work contexts, it is easy to see how to integrate them into your life. Most are fun to try, and effective, too - even the laughing, which is hard at first, but certainly does act as a release and takes you out of the mind's endless chatter for a while. They are based on meditation techniques devised by the late Indian mystic, Osho.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Open the doors to divine union...
I consider the teachings and meditation technique taught in this video to be my most precious possessions, because these practices are allowing me to open my inner doors to union with the Divine. I prayed for peace of mind, and I prayed to know who "I AM" really is, and this technique was my answer. It allows me to quiet my mind enough to experience the endless expanse and utter FREEDOM of God's pure consciousness. In quieting my mind, I find to my delight, that Joy is the essence of who we all really are. You can discover this! This essence of JOY will give you guidance and answers on life's difficult journey. It will enable you live your life in love and compassion, helping to transform our suffering world from the inside out. On this video, Norman Paulsen speaks humbly from a place of true experiential knowledge of this freedom and joy and oneness with the Divine. Your soul will feel it and be inspired that you, too, can make that all-important journey."Everything else can wait, but your search for God cannot wait." No matter where you are on the spiritual path, this video will help you and inspire you onward.

Last weekend my fourteen-year-old daughter Danielle and I had the pleasure of viewing Meditation for Teens, and found it to be a pleasurable and excellent introduction to the art of meditation. It is a strong tool tohelp encourage young people to channel their energy in a positive way.Meditation for Teens brings together a group of teens, lead by 17-year-oldRasha Reikel, who share their own experiences of working with guidedimagery and meditation. They discuss some of the benefits they havepersonally experienced in working with the techniques on the video, suchas, less stress, higher grades and enhanced communication skills. We bothenjoyed the beautiful visuals and soothing Native American music byGuillermo Martinez and Tom Thompson. Danielle states, "I like themusic, it is very relaxing. I think kids have alot more stress than theyknow and feel that by doing the meditation it will help relieve alot ofthis stress. They will probably feel better and not even know why. Ienjoyed watching the video, but I also like to listen to it and make up myown visuals."Meditation for Teens is an invaluable gift for teens. It gives them great coping skills for dealing with the everyday challenges ofbeing a teenager with all the responsibilities and expectations which areplaced upon them (by themselves or others). I think many of the recentevents in schools is a perfect example of how much stress our teens arereally experiencing and how dangerous the breaking points can be. A botanist before he was a doctor, Andrew Weil thinks a lot about plantsand the nature of nature when he considers human health. Drawn from his popularbook of the same name, this 82-minute lecture (given at the New York BotanicalGarden) touches on diet fads, the carbs vs. protein controversy, vitaminsupplements, and fast food. Much of his advice is common sense: Eat a lot offresh fruits and vegetables, don't fall for extreme diets, pay attention to thekind of fats you eat, and increase your activity. But he complements these well-known principles with studies and examples, delivered in an entertaining way.The Australian study on fast-food fat he cites will send you speeding away fromthe local drive-through window, and the cultural observations he shares aboutthe Japanese and French diets may convince you to finally try soy and eatsmaller portions less frequently. Much of his advice is boiled down in concisescreen graphics for easy note-taking. The only annoying thing about this tape isthe frequent interruption by applause. Weil's delivery is charismatic withoutthe distracting bursts of clapping to tell us so. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Instruction
Jack Kornfield provides a simple, yet understanding approach to meditation. Though it doesn't state it, his presentation provides insight for the experienced person along with basic instruction for a beginner. Unlike some presentations that only give instruction on what to do, Jack Kornfield walks you through the meditation step-by-step, providing useful tools and methods to practice in order to improve your meditation time. I really enjoyed his simple approach and sincerity. This can be used over and over again for any meditation session not just as an instructional tool that is learned and then layed to the side. I highly recommend it !! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Solid Intro to Kabat-Zinn's work
This is a good video to watch if you are interested in an overview and introduction to a stress clinic and the work of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Jon Kabat-Zinn. It is an educational tape but it is not an instructional video for meditation or stress management.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars The caterwalling is annoying....
I agree with another reviewer that the "caterwalling" during the Rodney Yee portion of the DVD is hugely annoying and distracting. It's not calming or meditative, but grating.
2-0 out of 5 stars Be great if there were no caterwalling in the background
I would have loved this except the music --caterwalling I'd call it--in the background kept me from concentrating. It made it very hard to meditate--I'm just a beginner. Everytime I started to get into it, the wailing in the bacground would get louder and knock me back to earth. Ended up feeling annoyed and frustrated instead of calm and good..

4-0 out of 5 stars Another great mediation DVD!
This is a wonderful practice. Either am or pm meditation. Starts out with a brief introduction, then a bit of yoga, and a lovely meditation practice. The drawback is that there are no submenus designating different start points, so you have to fast forward to bypass the spoken introduction and/or the yoga. Beautful scenery, but you really don't notice it unless you peek ;o) At the end of Rodney's am practice they show a closeup of his face and have you open your eyes. It would be much nicer to see a beautiful sunrise during the time when your eyes are open. Other then those slight flaws, the content is very good. This is a good DVD to get you going if you have never tried meditation, or to add to your dvd collection.Read more
