Editorial Review

Victor Borge was a master at combining two seemingly disparate elements: comedy and classical music. While the Dane's dapper dignity fit the image of "longhair" music, Borge undercut it with broad physical comedy, clever spoofs, and off-the-cuff wit. A pioneer in the field of live comedy recordings, Borge is nevertheless best appreciated on video, and Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great routines, but truncated recording disappointing
Victor Borge is as funny as ever in this 90-minute live performance. He is thoroughly engaged, very lively, and manages to deliver even his most common routines with such energy and humor that you feel as if you're seeing them for the first time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Humor At It's Very Best
Always wanted to see Victor Borge perform in person but never had the chance. His timing and ability to communicate with the audience is remarkable. The real musical talent of Mr. Borge on the piano is woven into his performance for all to enjoy. He simply was one of the very best entertainers of his time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Christy made it so simple!
I found this tape to be very easy to follow, I was anxious to get started learning the dances. I would not hesitate to buy another tape from Christy.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT
This is a great video! Lots of dances and variations, it makes it so easy to learn. The energy of the instructor encourages the student/viewer to dance and is great for all ages!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great video!
I have purchased other Christy Lane videos because I am pleased with the way she teaches. She is enthusiastic and easy to follow.I really had fun learning these dances as I knew very little about them. The swing section is the best.I now know all the right names for all those dances. Thanks Christy!I recommend it for anybody. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Where is the DVD???
I strongly agree with the other reviewers. This truly contains so many classic performances - Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Doobie Brothers, the list goes on. Why is it not yet on DVD??? People have been asking this question for so many years now. With so many other great concert performances being released recently surely "No Nukes" is deserving of being released on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where is the DVD???
This is an amazing show - please remaster this one and put it out on DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars No Nukes (should be on DVD as well on VHS issued in Holland
The few that wrote a five star comment at this site should be aware of the 3-record album (with booklet). That only part of the songs on the VHS are the same on the records, and vice versa, makes no difference. A pity they didn't make a double cd also, and issue all in Europe (Holland!!!) I keep looking for them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Tool forSpeech and Language Development
My 18 month loves this video and asks for it by name (/babi/ /baebo/).He loves to imitate the sounds, facial expressions, and words in the video.I can't tell you how much he has picked up from this video!I am an early childhood speech-language pathologist and I bought this video to recommend to my clients.I love the vocabulary and speech models that it offers.I use alot of the same techniques and toys when I work with my clients.

5-0 out of 5 stars non-special-needs children love it too!
I love excellent educational tools and this is definitely one!My son (16 months) interacts with this video and it makes him (and me) even more aware of speach sounds around him.

5-0 out of 5 stars better than baby einstein
My 2 1/2 year old autistic son loves this video and has actually learned from it.He imitates the sounds and even the mouth movements.I often hear him using words from the video in other contexts. It is very low budget but seems to really work with children and he has used what he learns more than any other video. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but probably not for beginners
This is one of the very few commercial videotapes on the planet that provides instruction in the 20's charleston, so if you want to learn how to dance to Chicago or New Orleans jazz, here's your chance.5-0 out of 5 stars World of Swing #6 From Partner Charlston to Lindy Charlston
I really enjoyed this tape. I practiced the moves taught in the tape at home, they were very easy to follow and understand. Then I put them into my dance and they looked very stylish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charleston is back!
This video was great for learning steps and turns that can be used in charleston. The Instructors Marcus & Bärbl were thorough and easy to follow. The dance steps are broken down for both, the guy and girl. We know Marcus & Bärbl for a long time and we promise they have a lot of experience in teaching and competing. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Generally considered the first sound feature, this 1927 film is pretty much silent except for a few lines of dialogue and Al Jolson's songs. The story finds Jolson playing the son of a cantor who wants him to follow in his footsteps, but the singer prefers secular music. Except for its historical value, the film isn't all that interesting, though it is great to get a sense of why people considered Jolson to be a hugely exciting entertainer at the time. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Jolson will always be a star
The Jazz Singer gives us a look back into the past to a very different time; so different from today that some casually call it "corny".Well, the past was what it was and I, for one, find it quite remarkable that this particular film survived while there were so many lost forever.I love it and get a thrill seeing a "window" opened into the past. And to be able to SEE and HEAR the great Al Jolson sing and entertain always thrills me and I can understand the magnetism and appeal he had to the public and why he was so loved by them.Look at the Jazz Singer, not with jaded 2006 eyes, but with eyes eager to see and hear something and someone amazing and you will never forget it.You owe it to yourself to own this bit of the past.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Original "Talkie"
This is a grainy film, difficult to concentrate on, but film history buffs will be as riveted as I was. The almost operatic quality of the acting and makeup remind us of the miracle of the talking movie. A must have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Schmaltzy but still touching
The song numbers are heratwarming. The opening when the Cantor dad drags the kid home is poignant. I guess this film was just made in Hollywood even though much of it is set in New York. It is very touching though corny too. The 1920's is a rarely seen decade now as few talking films were made then. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected at all
After reading all these wonderful reviews I was expecting something a little more professional in it's taping. As it was, the camera couldn't seem to hold still long enough to show exactly what some of the moves were.It was all over the place.I learned a few moves, but this video seemed more like an infomercial or testimony rather than an instruction video.Too much talking and not enough instruction.Over all, they teach 3 hip roles, but claim to teach 4.The fourth one is the same as the first one, just on your knees instead of standing.
4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginners
If you're not it's still great because it forces you to concentrate on your body during the movements. It also gives a lot of great advice. These moves are core moves only. If your looking for more, this video is not for you. My favorite part was actually during the credits you are able to view the instructor in action during several clips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do Something Fun for Your Lover
This video / DVD is about the art of sensual erotic dancing.Your boyfriend or husband will be dilighted and this DVD may certainly help you to add a spice to your relationship. (It did add spice to mine).

Editorial Review

Director Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner) solemnly alerts us to the glory that was Spinal Tap in his introduction to this "rockumentary" about the legendary British heavy-metal group, featuring lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), lead singer David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), bassist Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), and a succession of drummers whose careers were cut short by spontaneously combusting on their stool, drowning in somebody else's vomit, or otherwise perishing in untimely fashion. Under DiBergi's studious interrogation, the band and their familiars retrace the band's evolution from head-bopping Mersey Beat poseurs to head-banging metal poseurs, each change in musical direction or tonsorial chic having little effect on the surviving trio's sublime idiocy. For, as St. Hubbins (he's the "deep" one, relatively speaking) sagely observes, "It's such a fine line between stupid and clever."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS BAND IS GARBAGE!!!! THAT'S WHY THIS MOVIE IS SOOO FUNNY!!!!!
Most people doesn't realize that this band SUCK'S!!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars 11/10
How to be a part of real Rock History without being a musician, singer, producer or someone in the music business? Answer: Make a movie as this one. Almost every serious Rock fan and rock star must have seen this movie or if they haven't, they had better see it before they go out and give another interview. Believe me, there are bands and performers who still talk and give interviews like Spinal Tap did in this movie. This movie is made for these guys. Like me, if you have watched countless interviews of rockstars, popstars and movie stars you cannot do without this classic. The Lead guitarist was my favourite. I could give him an Oscar for his brilliant performance. If Jimmy Page used a bow on his guitar you must wait and see what the lead guitarist ofSpinal Tap does.
4-0 out of 5 stars "No One Knows Who They Were Or What They Were Doing, But Their Legacy Remains"
A seering exploration of life behind the glitz and glamour of rock and roll? Not quite, but it is an amusing mock-u-mentry on a fictitious band named Spinal Tap and the trials and tribulations on the concert road for a group long past its glory days.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
Hell's Bells is life changing to say the least. Having been a lead guitarist for many years, I found the videos to be right on. The Christian perspective is balanced and each person is encouraged to draw thier own conclusion. It is an eye opener if someone really wants to know the truth.

5-0 out of 5 stars This flim ROCKS
it has all the great band of the 80 including Dio's heaven and hell.this is the video that turned me one to all the cool bands of the 80's

4-0 out of 5 stars freedom of speech and religion
After reading some of the reviews of this movie I am amused. Freedom of speech and religion are our rights. Anyone offended by this movie is certainly entitled to their opinion, just as those who enjoyed the movie and found it to reflect their own views. I found the movie extremely interesting. Understanding diversity comes through exploration and deciding what is right for you. I was not offended and I would recommend this movie. Anyone secure in their own beliefs will take the content accordingly. If you are unsure of your beliefs, you may be threatened or enlightened. Either way I am pleased to see it on the market. I support freedom of speech and religion. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A carefully thought out fantastic dance instruction video
If all dance videos were produced this well, there would have to be at least 10 times as many places to dance in the world in order to accomodate all of the dedicated dancers. The instruction, dancing, tips, photography, audio, and sequencing of steps (which step is taught first, second, etc.) are all absolutely impecable. In fact, Peta's tips for using the video (given at the beginning) can be applied to learing from any dance video and to learning how to dance in general - from any source.
4-0 out of 5 stars Useful
It is a good video because it contains twenty variations, it is well explained and both Peta and Josie are very good dancers. However, the variations are shown as starting on two and I find more natural to start on one. Besides, their waist movement does not look as natural as a latin street dancer.
5-0 out of 5 stars Of all the cha-cha videos I've seen this is the best
I've had very little luck finding cha-cha dance video's, and most of them show the same basic steps over and over. This video is the exception, I'd rate this as Josie's best video in terms of production and content. The routines are well thought out and explained. The style of cha-cha shown is the same one I learned and see practice in clubs here in Texas, so no complaints there. Overall this video packs a huge bang for the buck.70 minutes with the mans, then woman's part explained. ... Read more

Nightclub two-step--not to be confused with country two-step--is a slow, romantic dance. Master instructors Robert Royston and Laureen Baldovi teach the dance from the ground up. First they teach the rhythm and basic step to music, their backs to you so you can follow easily. Then they show you how to do that move with a partner, then they add additional basic moves like the side-cross-side traveling step and some simple turns and open breaks. During later segments, they get progressively more complicated and teach a variety of graceful, intermediate moves, including new turns, open breaks, and crossovers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to learn
I've looked at a number of tapes and DVDs lately, including three that this same couple have made. This tape (and others in the set) are far and away the best in terms of showing the steps (men first, then women, then together) and providing important details that others leave out entirely (how to hold your hands to make a turn). The jokes are corny but I think they present a good picture of some very personable dancers. I'm a beginning dancer (although I'm over 50) and this tape has allowed me and a partner to learn enough steps to be able to dance together at a nightclub. We'll be even better with more practice. I haven't seen a tape or DVD which does a better job. I wish they had a version for Rumba.

5-0 out of 5 stars If I can dance 2-step, you can
I saw other people dancing 2-step. I wanted to learn it & therefore bought this tape & try. The type runs for about 1 hour & teaches from basic step to about 10 different patterns, which is enough for doing a dance without repeating the same patterns too often. I learned from it by playing back twice, followed the steps & practiced without a partner. Then I went to the dance floor to do the 2-step for the 1st time with a partner who is a beginner dancer. I was happy that I could lead & dance it out. Although thefirst time was not very smooth, after several times I can dance 2-step to the music without difficulty now. This is really a good instructional video & worth the money. I like the instructors too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Instructors
We enjoyed this one as much as the Ultimate Two-Step Video.Great tips and beautiful dancing techniques.Wouldn't use this that much in Texas; we normally just plow our way through everyone! But it would have come in handy when we visited Nashville and everyone was doing line dances we hadn't learned yet! They go through step and arm movements very thoroughly and make it easy to learn! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Get to understand Rocco
Listening to Rocco play is amazing, but getting to see how heapproaches playing the bass is enlightening. If you have ever seen Rocco play and wondered why he move around the neck so much this will answer that. How he plays all those sixteenth notes so cleanly. It also shows how he builds lines from simple motifs. This is a real education.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy This Tape!
If you're interested in funk bass, this is the tape to get. It's comprehensive, teaching basic to advanced techniques, all in in a logical and easy to understand fashion. The exercises are progressive, and with practice, easy to master -- even for someone lacking natural chops like me. Not only is Prestia an tremendous musician, more importantly, he's a superb teacher. I have a lot of bass instruction tapes, and I can tell you that this is one of the best. You're not learning someone else's mannerisms; you're learning a fundamental approach to the bass. You'll amaze your friends and you'll amaze yourself, and you'll save a ton of money learning what would otherwise require dozens of private lessons.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funk with a capital 'F'
I couldn't belive this vidio when i first saw it! The playing style made me nod my head streight away. I borrowed it off a friend who has been progresing ever since he got it and now i am. 3-0 out of 5 stars Its pretty good, however
Its pretty good for something from 20 years ago, however, I was worried my toddler would get A.D.D. watching it because the scenes are constantly changing and erratic. My toddler enjoys "Toddler Tunes" and "Silly Songs" by cedarmontkids much more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Old Fashioned, But Good
Yes, this is the one I remember. As a child, I loved this video, but my 2-year-old...not so much. Maybe he'll grow into it. I think the pace of it is just too slow for him right now. It would be great if Kidsongs would reproduce some of these classic sing-alongs with an up-to-date style.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great video...but for salsa dancers only.
I bought this video a few days ago and then read the comments on this product page and I was bit hesitant to open the video. However, it is great and in fact one the best that I own from the Josie Neglia series. The salsa moves are excellent, popular, but for advanced salsa dancers only. I found the moves to be great refreshers since I have been taken salsa lessons for almost 10 years now and dance regularly. These moves serve as refreshers for those who are salsa dancers and possibly instructors. If you are a beginner this video is not for you and in fact there's nothing on the box that says "beginner salsa" therefore I am not sure where the notion of this video being for beginners originated. Once again the moves are fantastic, common and will help you to break down the moves more if that's what is needed to perfect them.3-0 out of 5 stars Not a good choice for beginners
I read the reviews of this video and then bought it anyway because I'm not a total beginner and thought I would be bored with a lot of simplistic breaking down of moves and easy patterns. I was wrong! This is too hard for beginners of any level, even if you already know the basic step and a few turns. Most of the combinations are really complicated, and they provide only brief instructions.2-0 out of 5 stars Horrible for Beginners
As a beginner I am now taking salsa lessons and still very disappointed with this video. As per this tape if you're a beginner stay away.Good instructors always count "1,2,3,,5,6,7," while showing you the exact steps/footing.As an instructor Jose Neglia doesn't even know how to count - she says "quick, quick, slow,,quick, quick, slow".Not only is that really bad instruction, she furthermore often loses the tempo when she says "quick, quick, slow" which confuses the beginner even more. One more thing, she instructs the dance steps very quickly "quick, quick, slow" then demonstrates it very quickly. If you are a beginner there's no way you'll enjoy this tape. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I would have rated it 1/2 star if I could of!!!!!
DO NOT BUY THIS VIDEO!! Save your money! This one of the most poorly done instructional videos I have seen! I hope following reasons will help others to make a more informed choice:2-0 out of 5 stars just bought the video.....
i'm an intermediate/advance dancer - the steps are great for beginners - i found the steps too basic for intermediate dancers.5-0 out of 5 stars Great learning tool for Salsa level 3/4
This video is great for intermediate-advanced level salsa dancers who want to learn or sharpen their salsa variations. The video features Josie Neglia and her assistant who are excellent at breaking down each step both male and female and once completed they dance the variation to music at least twice. The moves are classified as level III & IV salsa and indeed they are intermediate to advance steps. The video goes through each routine clearly and concisely which prevents the viewer from being overwhelmed. This video can meet the needs of salsa dancers who are at the intermediate level and wish to perfectionize their moves and beginners who are ready to try more difficult steps. I strongly recommend this video as it displays great choreography, coordination and is well organized from start to finish. ... Read more

Its pretty good for something from 20 years ago, however, I was worried my toddler would get A.D.D. watching it because the scenes are constantly changing and erratic. My toddler enjoys "Toddler Tunes" and "Silly Songs" by cedarmontkids much more, these are modern versions with less flashing between scenes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
This DVD was the corniest crap I've ever seen.My son told me to turn it off after 2 minutes of viewing it and he's only 2.5 yrs old.It is poor in quality in addition to it being so lame.DO NOT BUY

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners and low quality product
Two characteristics of this video made me return it and not recommend this video: a) this video is not for beginners, and b) this video was poorly produced.5-0 out of 5 stars Great! Very satisfied. Will buy her next video.
Love it. I enjoy dancing but don't have the opportunity to take lessons. The steps here are enough to make me look like a pro. I'm looking forward to buying the next level tape. I have no problem with the counting 1 - 2 - 3 -- 5 - 6 - 7 - which seems to bother some because that is the rithm of the music.

2-0 out of 5 stars A big disappointment
There are so many salsa instruction videos and DVDs to choose from - I bought this video based on the rave reviews it got. What a disappointment.Content aside, the quality is poor, particularyly the audio as Josie decided to dub over her counting 1-2-3, 4-5-6 with 1-2-3, 5-6-7 according to the beat count rather than step count. She really shouldn't have. It's very annoying. As for the steps, many of them are identical steps but with arm variations. The music is the same throughout. There are more titles than dancing.Don't get me wrong, there are steps to be learned here but for a fairly experienced dancer (albeit in ballroom) like myself who is looking for a quick overview to get a feel for the style, it's awful. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I was not impressed.
I did ballet for the last 4 years before coming to college. I missed ballet and was looking for something that would help me keep up with it- and give me a workout as ballet does, from the comfort of my own room. I feel like this was made for those without any or much ballet experience. But at the same time, the way it is shot/edited at times makes it hard to follow. When a step is being demonstrated suddenly it goes to a black and white zoom on the instructor's upper body, when what you need to see is her feet! Furthermore I'm disappointed with the non-ballet muscle toning parts. It's nothing special, crunches and push up, which when I'm buying an excersive video I don't want the abdominal excersizes to be all crunches- I could come up with that on my own.
5-0 out of 5 stars From Taebo to Ballet......This video ROCKS
I have been doing Taebo on and off since 1999, so I am what you would consider "fit". However, I didn't like what Taebo was doing to my body - i.e. making me look like Billy Blanks....so I switched to ballet, hoping it would sculpt me to look like a woman. Well! Oddly enough, I had just bought about 4 belts when I started the ballet. Within 3 weeks, all of the belts were WAY too big, and I was suddenly able to get into pants that I haven't gotten into in years. Furthermore, my extremely stubborn little belly has virtually melted away, and my arms are getting very firm. Ballet rocks! And, of the 4 videos I bought (including both NYC Ballet videos), this one is my favorite. I like the music, which changes a lot depending on the exercise (some of it is cheery, up-tempo, and some is slower, quieter). The instruction is good, but I did ballet as a child, so a lot of it comes back to me. My mom, who has never done ballet, had a hard time following the instruction the first time. If you dance with someone else, have the person who knows what they're doing stand in front of the other person. It's easier to watch a live person do the exercises than try to follow the video, if you're an absolute beginner. All in all, a wonderful workout. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost like dance class!
This is the nearest I have come to finding anything that resembles a Ballet class. The exception is that the barre exercises are done on the floor, but following that is center work.Terrific video.Note do not expect to all ways get a cardio workout from Ballet unless you are in Swan Lake or a serious professional dancer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Kid Millions
I too like this film and the technicolor finale. I had it on 16mm and have the original NTSC Laserdisc. I was hopepful for this and other Goldwyn musicals on DVD. A Cantor source told me late last year that the release had been cancelled. But, believe it or not, this year a supplier outside USA charged me for this item in January and like other items it did not arrive. A major disappointment.
5-0 out of 5 stars Eddie Cantor shines in this delightful Goldwyn musical comedy
This is my favorite Eddie Cantor musical comedy. In addition to a wonderful score, the cast features the talented Ethel Merman, while Ann Sothern and George Murphy provide the romantic interest. There is a rousing musical number in which the young Nicholas Brothers dance as only they can. Look for a young Lucille Ball as one of the Goldwyn Girls. If all this weren't enough, the musical finale was photographed in glorious Technicolor as Eddie treats hundreds of kids to his ice cream factory. (the Willy Wonka of his day). This musical comedy is a must for all fans of the genre. I don't know why it is currently unavailable on DVD, but all the Goldwyn comedies and musicals are long over-due.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Eddie Cantor release on DVD
This will be, if released, the first Eddie Cantor film released on the DVD format. Hey -- it's only taken 7 years or so.
