5-0 out of 5 stars This movie, has a cure to be found. Ebay, is a great way for the Monsters to stay!!!
Hey this movie, is one of my all time favorites. When I was a kid and it still is, I am now 23 and I still watch it when I am in the mood lol... FAT KID,SEAN,ROODY,PATRICK,EUGENE,SCARY GERMAN GUY and the rest of the gang are ok, they are still alive on EBAY so buy it fast."BECAUSE THE DEAD TRAVELS SO FAST" I have bought it from ebay already. It's a good dvd, and there are no comercials or and mess ups skippings. It all depends on what it looks like on the dvd cover and the description the seller tells you about. But just be carefull, and its really cheap, the one I bought was only $10.00 dollars. So there ya go, not only a cure for Wolfman was found buta cure for the monster lovers in your lives. I just want to warn you, thou, if you get it off Ebay, you will have the movie on dvd, but don't expect any special features, its just the movie, it'clear and its good as new but its better then nuthen. So go for it, if "WOLFMAN'S GOT NARDS, THEN I GOT THEM TOO, I GIVE YOU THE OPERTUNITY TO ACTUALLY OWN MONSTER SQUAD, ON DVD NOW." Just follow SHADOW BROOK RD. ITS THE OLD MANSION PLACE, THERE'S NOT MUCH TIME SO HURRY TO EBAY AND THERE YOU WILL FIND THE BEST MONSTERS THAT YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IN A LONG TIME.. hey outta here GOT SOME VAMPIRE SLAYING TO DO, LOL SJ..

5-0 out of 5 stars "Was that the Boogeyman?" "As a Matter of Fact it Was..."
I remember as fifteen year old teenager, sneaking into my local theatre for a showing of John Carpenter's now classic, horror film, "Halloween". I'll never forget, that long walk home afterwords, looking over my shoulder with a shudder, imagining 'the Shape'/Michael Myers suddenly appearing behind the bare trees. Now over twenty-five years later with 'All Hollow's Eve' fast approaching, I thought I'd buy this movieand see if it still retains it power to scare or if merely came off a a corny/campy 'genre' film of my youth. Well, I have got to tell you, after a late night viewing, that this movie retains it's status as a horror classic and it's still scary as anything! What makes this movie so good ? For one, director/writer, John Carpenter sets this movie in a normal any-town, suburbia. We can see ourselves in this town of picket fences and tree line streets with middle income suburban family houses. Two, the main characters are pretty well written. The three teenage girls are not just faceless victims. Carpenter spends the first half of the film introducing us to these characters and letting us get to know them. They are like any other average teenage girls. They joke around, boast, laugh, fight and gossip with each other. The acting is a step above most horror films. Jamie Lee Curtis gives an especially effective lead performance in her film debut. Third, mood seems to be everything in this film. The majority of the time is spent at night. Cinematographer/Director of Photography, Dean Cundey bathes the film in the pitch blackness of night and highlights it with errie, autumn colors. The few day scenes are almost grimey. Daylight is just a prelude (or set-up) for what is to come. Cundey's use of light in the darkness, highlights the chilling details within the scenes (just look at the scene of Jamie Lee Curtis standing next to an open, pitch-black closet, when all of a sudden Michael's masked face suddenly, ghostly appears out of nowhere). Mood is also set with Carpenter's now classic, electronic, musical score. If there is one thing that gives me goose bumps about this film is that persistant theme music! Finally, this is a film, where less is more. We actually see and know very little about the killer. He is presented as an almost supenatural force of nature. Aside from the opening backflash scene and an over the top desription from Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence), we know very little about him or his motivations. The viewer only briefly sees parts of his masked face in the darkness. We see his hulking form in blurry, long shots. But not until the end, do we actually get a good look at him. He is the unknown and we are all frightened by the unknown. This is just a great, classic horror film! After all these years it still retains it's power to just scare! Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Question not a comment
Does this 25th anniversary edition have the scene when P.J. Soles' character Lynda comes over to Laurie's house to borrow the blouse?

1-0 out of 5 stars Boo!
It wasn't a bad movie except for all the killing. How about a nice movie where people just get along? Instead, this crazy michael myers guy runs around killing all the teenie weeners and ruins halloween for everyone. This character totally ruined the movie. Pleasent Donald demonstrated some good acting but I had a hard time telling him apart from that buttugly Jamie Lee Curtis. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Old Fashioned Ghost Story
You can't beat the coast of Cornwall for a great ghost story setting. It's storyline is engaging and it moves pretty quickly. Excellent cast and genuinley creepy without cheap scares AND it's filmed in glorious black and white which yet adds another dimension to this great mystery/ghost story! A wonderful movie to curl up with on a rainy Saturday afternoon! I would rank this right up there with the original version of "The Haunting" and "The Innocents". My big question is since Amazon rates the VHS version as #268 on it's sales list when will they let the owners know that we want it in on DVD or let us let the owners know that we want it!! That's it for today. I gotta go!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's not that scary.
Actually this 1944 movie is a rather touching human story on many levels. It is about a girl coming to terms with her tragic family past.It boosts some very good acting and a fine cast led by Ray Milland, with a strong screenplay, set designs, and fine direction by Lewis Allen who always maintains a sense of fear with drama and some light comedy here and there.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS MOVIE KICKS!!
Well, i figured it would be much eaiser to use the kids reviw-less time spent, more wrighting! A message to everyone who has not seen this movie - Your missing out on a classic. The move is about a girl named carly beth ( Wich in itself is creepy) who is allways getting picked on. Chuck and Steve, two classmates, are allways playing jokes on her, trying to scare her. Which by the way allways works. Carly Beth Wants to get eternal revenge on them for thier crule tricks, so, she goes out to find a scary mask. One day she stumbles into a novelty shop and basicly steals a mask. By the way, allthough this movie was made from smaller childeren, I found the mask scary. The artsits did a great job. It really looks real! Im a teenager and i was scared! Well, slightly anyhow. The rest of the plot developes into a halloween night of revenge and the creepy thruth about the mask at the end.

    Editorial Review

When the totalitarian planet of Mongo decides on a whim to obliterate Earth, it's up to the lunk-headed quarterback Flash Gordon and his oddball companions to make the universe safe for democracy. Based on the classic (and infinitely more reputable) comic strip and its '30s screen serialization, this cotton-candy-colored trash classic deserves immortality for Queen's unforgettably pulsating soundtrack alone. The legendary Max von Sydow appears to be having a blast as the evil Ming the Merciless, while Ornella Muti, as his daughter, is the living embodiment of what attracts adolescent boys to comics in the first place. (She makes Barbarella look mundane.) One of the most shamelessly entertaining movies ever made, this is a knowingly absurd sensory freak-out that'll have the viewer blissfully checking the sky afterward for signs of Hawkmen. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars George Lucas, please take note
This remake of the classic serial adventure plays like the opposite of the recent 'Star Wars' prequels: it's campy, silly, goofy, cheesy...and a lot of fun.
5-0 out of 5 stars Why has this not been reissued!!
Oi, it's true this has come out on dvd already but, hey it came out on dvd almost ten years ago.Back then DVD players were around the price of 700 bucks so, this movie was released in a very very small print run...... Here it is 2006 dvd players are 50 bucks and this movie is still not rereleased and ironicly sells more than it cost to buy a dvd player!?!? Whats up with that?????Why has this great cheesy sci fi film yet to see a reissue or some sort of "collectors tin" edition just so they can charge 30 bucks. Either way I'd be estatic to see this come out on dvd at a price I could afford!!!The only thing I could see thats preventing this from being rereleased is the soundtrack royalties...... If so, hey queen please don't be greedy or hey universal don't be cheap on royalties.... I don't know who's at fault but, come on bring this film to dvd again at a price we can afford.... Someone is sitting on this film because it's not even rerunned on some offshoot of a turner network like it was throughout the eighties..... Bring this back to dvd! Flesh Gordon is easily findable on dvd but, not the real movie..... Oh, as for a review of this film this is a movie about a jets quaterback who saves the universe! And in space if one recalls dudes bleed blue blood since theres no oxygen ;) And the soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks made by one band for a movie period. No songs feel forced into the movie... Instead each track flows perfectly with this film.... IE this was made in the day when soundtracks where just that soundtracks to the film. Not some junk to sell a new "artist's" single like soundtracks are so like today.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow - has it really been 26 years since Flash saved every one of us?
And what thanks did he get? No special treatment, no Superbowl ring, not even a crummy twenty-fifth anniversary re-release on DVD. Where's the justice? Where are the special features? Where's the widescreen, digital transfer? What the heck ever happened to Sam Jones? Is Ming the Merciless running the Universal Studios home video division? Will my children be doomed to a lifetime of Flash-lessness? Please, Flash, say it's not so!

5-0 out of 5 stars Halloween Tradition
I first saw this movie when it originally aired on TV.After it was over, my sister and I trailed down the hallway of our house hanging on to my mother because we were so scared. We taped it a few years later and have watched it almost every year since on or around Halloween.I can honestly say that I would not watch it by myself because it still scares me so much.Movies today don't have the "scare factor" anymore - they go straight for the gore. This was so incredibly well acted.I can't look at Charles Durning the same way after seeing him as the lecherous postman."Bubba didn't do it" is one of my family's favorite catch phrases when someone is accused of doing something they didn't do.I just wish someone would put it on DVD so we could finally retire that old VHS tape with all the old commercials from 1980-something.This is a much-overlooked gem of a horror movie and I recommend it to anyone who really wants to be scared and not just grossed out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Get Any Better Then This!
So who says you need a huge budget, a lot of computer generated special effects, and super big names to make an excellent horror film?
5-0 out of 5 stars Still one of my favorites after all these years.
I saw this movie when it aired years ago and thought it was great. It's very well written, directed and acted, with very little special effects, but it stands on it's own.Years later, I saw it coming on and recorded it only to lose it since.I've watched for it nearly every Halloween since but it never seems to air.I finally found a copy on ebay and bought it again. If you haven't seen it, I hope you get to.It's a real good story of revenge from the dark side, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat!Durning does such a good acting job in this movie, as well as his supporting cast.I can't wait to see it again! ... In England, there is a castle that belonged to the Canterville family, a family known for their cowardice. During the 1600s, one such member Sir Simon of Canterville (Charles Laughton) fled from a duel to defend his brother's honor. His father was so ashamed with his son, that he walled him up to die in the castle. Since then, he was cursed to roam about a night until a member of the family performed a brave act in his honor.

5-0 out of 5 stars almost perfect
These films look really good cleaned up, only thing George shouldn't of changed/added was the Greedo/Han scene in episode 4, the Han walking over Jabbas tail scene in episode 4, and the change to the end scene in episode 6 at the end where yoda, obi-wan, and anakin are all standing together smiling at luke. Replacing the old darth vader with the actor from episode 3 was just plain out dumb.
5-0 out of 5 stars stars wars trilogy
my favorite movie is starwars trilogy. it is about the dark side and the good side.It takes place in the future. It is set in space.I liked it because it has action and love. It is also funny and is cool. All people would like the movie because it is about science and space. I give it a thumbs up.

3-0 out of 5 stars Despite what people think, it's NOT the greatest sci-fi film ever
Let's start off with the "special edition" commentary. The special features were lame, and let's be honest, who wanted to watch the entire Disc special where they lauded George Lucas as a genius? Such ego!Sure, at the time, the special effects were fine and maybe it did INNOVATE a whole industry...but the whole "concept" of Star Wars isn't like Buddha's word of mouth, or anything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Darker than "Dark"
"House of Dark Shadows" is one of my all-time favorite horror movies, and I've always been a fan of the TV series. The movie, though, is fairly gory and much darker than the series had ever been. It was made 35 years ago, but it still scares me when I watch it!Some of the best scenes include Willie Loomis releasing Barnabas from his coffin, and the film's climax involving Barnabas, Maggie Evans, Jeff Clark and Willie.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why does Obi-Wan Kenobi look like Jesus Christ?
Picking up 10 years later, Anakin Skywalker is no longer an adorable if stoic little kid but now a tall, gangly, jerky young man (Hayden Christensen) with a tendency to whine and bitch about stuff for no apparent reason (takes things way too personally he does). Well, him and his master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) are assigned to protect former queen turned senator Padme (Natalie Portman) after ten years apart from an assassin. This job eventually leads to Obi-Wan being separated from Anakin while he investigates the assassin who happens to be involved with a cloning conspiracy and this later leads him to a renegade Jedi master played by Christopher Lee. Guess what? Anakin still has the hots for Padme and whilst Obi-Wan is away Anakin would like nothing better than to strip her naked and get her in the sack. The future Darth Vader also has a nightmare about his mom's death back on Tatioone and he FINALLY goes to rescue her but by the time he gets there she's already dead so he goes and kills the cannibal Sand People who killed her.

I remember back in the early 1990s of a show called Mystery Science Theater 3000. My parents occasionally watched it...but I got hooked at age 9. Strangely enough, the jokes didn't totally whiz over my head and I was able to enjoy Joel (when he was there...mostly reruns), Mike (who I saw mostly), Servo, and Crow. Now I never got so see the movie in theaters (due to young age and I didn't even know there was a movie until I saw a commercial for the VHS!). Once it was on TV I watched, I laughed, I even recorded onto a VHS myself and viewed at leisure. Now, I'm 21 and am hoping to get the DVDs so I can enjoy like I used to (with more understanding to the jokes...and I see this price tag for USED copies of the movie on DVD. I understand it's out of print, but I think it's best to shop around.

When I was younger, my parents would watch MST3000 a lot (back when it was still on Sci-Fi). I didn't understand the movie humor, but I liked looking at the goofy monsters and I thought the robots were pretty funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Exceptional Film Adaptation of the Classic Novel
This 1945 film adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic novella is more that likely the best adaptation one will ever see. This may seem to be a big statement, but Albert Lewin's direction along with Harry Stradling Sr.'s Oscar winning Cinematography for 1946, appears almost flawless when comparing the classic novel with the film.
5-0 out of 5 stars "5" for the movie, "1" for no DVD
This is one the best films of all time.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Lost Meaning of Evil and Terror.
With the exception of the fact that Sybil Vane is reduced from a stage actress to a club singer, this movie actually holds to the book quite well. In an age where horror movies revolve around the absurd overuse of blood and effects, and evil is portrayed as someone who just carries the label and dresses in black, this movie carries the true meaning of evil and terror. (Notably lost in modern times!) As in the book, we meet Lord Henry (played most convincingly by George Sanders). While he does have some redeeming points, he basically represents the devil. He is more of an observer, and he considers the common behavior of people beneath him. And as comically vicious as he gets, like the devil he never really tells outright falsehoods. One perfect example is when he expresses that women represent morality over mind and men represent mind over morals. Well, we then meet the young Dorian who is having his portrait painted. Lord Henry plays the devil and tells Dorian youth is only temporary and even if unintentionally tempts and leads Dorian into making a pact with evil. (He'll remain young while the picture ages.) Dorian then falls in love with Sybil Vane. And they plan to marry. But Lord Henry again plays the devil and gives Dorian advice that SOUNDS good, but will lead to Sybil's death when carried through. (Like the devil, Lord Henry can tempt, but NOT FORCE Dorian to do anything!) After Sybil's death, Lord Henry shows a redeeming moment when he is concerned over Dorian. But the harm is done. Dorian is now on his way to degeneration. It is not the pact itself that leads to Dorian's degeneration, but his vanity that leads him to a cold indifference to the needs of others. (While this behavior was comical in Lord Henry, it appears quite disturbing in Dorian.) Without blood or effects, this movie is really scarey as we gradually see Dorian degenerate into evil. Despite what action movies tell us, the true meaning of evil is when we become a prisoner of our own vanity and we desire to satisfy ourselves no matter what the cost to others. Dorian makes this clear when he says: "I enjoy scandals about others, but scandals about me do not interest me. I find them boring." In a moment of disturbing terror, Dorian murders the uncle of the Gladys (whom he now loves). And in his arguably most evil moment, he becomes the tempter. While he asks for Alan Campbell's help in disposing of the body, he tempts but again doesn't force. (And this will lead to Campbell's suicide. The tempted has become the tempter!) But Sybil's brother is still out there and he wants revenge for the death of his sister. We heard of Adrian Singleton earlier when Basil expressed his fear over the degeneration of Dorian's friends, and we see him as a disturbing eccentric who interestingly carries reason. Jim's death is creepily ambiguous. Did Dorian set up the hunting party in hopes that Jim would walk into a bullet, or did Jim's desire for revenge lead to his downfall? We don't know, but we DO know that for this evil to have fallen on Jim, Jim had to consent at least in part to it when he persued the evils of revenge. (Something the utterly stupid 'Time to Kill' couldn't figure out.) Moving on, Dorian has defeated all his enemies, but he just can't live with himself anymore. (An ending above and beyond action movies that have a hero kill his enemies, fall in love, and live happily ever after!) Well, Dorian breaks his pact with evil and pays a HIGH price. Not only is this movie a phenomenal remake of the book itself, but it also reminds us of the REAL meaning of evil and terror. And as a bonus, it shows the shortcomings of modern movies that just don't get it. If you liked the book, you'll love the movie! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Peter Lorre is indeed one of a kind!!
A superb and atmospheric early horror film with fine acting, super effects, tight script and haunting soundtrack. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the fantastic horror score by the great Max Steiner.Lorre is in top form and the severed hand effects(in most cases)easily stand up against 1991's Addams Family 'Thing' effects.
3-0 out of 5 stars Kind of silly, but entertaining
If not for Peter Lorre, this movie might be too silly to sit through. But Lorre turns in a grand performance, along with G. Carroll Nash as the detective.3-0 out of 5 stars Give Peter Lorre A Hand!!
This is a well-titled, but bizarre horror film from Warner Bros, a studio not known for producing horror films.Victor Francen stars as a renowned pianist living in one of those dark creepy movie mansions/castles.One hand is useless, so he uses his other hand to play.He relies heavily on his nurse, Andrea King, shuns his secretary, Peter Lorre, and sometimes seeks the company of Robert Alda who helped adapt the music for one-handed playing. When Francen dies (violently) and leaves his estate to his nurse, this sets off a series of strange events as everyone is terrorized by his disembodied hand!!Read more

Jody is the kind of guy that every 1970s teen looked up to. He's inhis early 20s, has a cool car, splendid '70s hair, leather jacket, playsguitar and (naturally) snags all the girls. His little brother, Mike, inparticular, admires him and emulates him at every turn. Things start to goastray, however, when the two brothers and their friend Reggie attend afuneral for a friend. Mike notices a tall man working at the funeral home; inthe course of his snooping, he sees the tall man put a loaded coffin into theback of a hearse as easily as if it was a shoebox. Jody doesn't believe hislittle brother's stories, though, until he brings home the tall man's severedfinger, still wriggling in what appears to be French's mustard. From there, the film picks up a terrific momentum that doesn't let up until thesequel-ripe twist ending.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a horror classic
I think that Phantasm was a big surprise hit back in '79 for different reasons than why it has endured as a cult movie to this day.
5-0 out of 5 stars TALL MAN CLEANIN' HOUSE!!!!!
Classic, 'nuff said (Thanks, Stan Lee)!
5-0 out of 5 stars DRIPS WITH SURREALISM AND ATMOSPHERE
Phasntasm, a little-known (outside of fans) horror fasntasy from 1979 is, simply stated, one of the most effective, atmospheric and genuinely scary movies to come out in a long long time.Even after 27 years, it still holds up as a truly unsettling and thoughtful horror movie and, believe me, it WILL scare the bejesus out of you.The thing I remember most about Phantasm was the normal, suburban culdesac surroundings where the film takes place.I swear, it will remind you of the neighborhood you grew up in.If you thought Spielberg's Americana neighborhoods seem real, wait til you check out the settings here. The fact that the 2 boys live alone in this big Brady Bunch-type house makes the whole thing kind of dreamlike.(Their parents died recently with little explanation). The acting is spot-on.The guy that plays the little brother is completely realistic. You will swear you know this kid!Likewise his cool brother and Reggie the ice cream man. These 3 genuinely seem like they have been friends for years. The acting seems very spontaneous and natural. You totally buy into these characters.
