4-0 out of 5 stars Great for real beginners!
A great video for those individuals just starting out with an exercise program. The quality of the video itself varies, but I find the content is exceptional.Gilad obviously knows a lot about fitness and is very carefulthroughout the video to encourage you to do no more than you can.Hestresses, at different points in the video, stretching exercises so thatyour body, especially your back, doesn't suffer during this workout. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED!
I painstakingly went through all of the offerings for a step aerobic workout and chose STEP INTO FITNESS because I wanted a low impact (I'm 60), and not a fancy, swirly, dizzying workout.I already work with weights and a treadmill.I just wanted something a little different. It's EXACTLY what I was looking for.A nice warm-up, great workout and cool down.I don't do the rest of it, which is upper body and more, because I get that from other sources.Perfect for the beginner...but you'll break a good sweat too.Christian music, but it sounds like rock 'n roll to me!Enjoy!

Editorial Review

This Pilates workout's subtitle, "Pick Your Spot," sums up its flexibility; the three 10-minute segments each tone the abdomen, rear, and thighs using Pilates-based exercises. Crammed into each segment are up to 10 exercises. "Belly" features the 100, criss-cross, twist, and mermaid; "Butt" includes swimming, double leg kicks, and leg circles; and "Thighs" offers the frog, front kicks, and leg lifts. While each segment is too brief to challenge veteran exercisers, viewers are free to hit the pause button and add reps. Plus, a 10-minute bonus total-body Pilates workout proves more demanding than the individual segments. L.A. Crunch instructor Ellen Barrett does an excellent job of initiating newbies to the regulated breathing and core muscle control needed for the exactness of this exercise system. However, visual clarity is somewhat hampered by a crowded set of eight exercisers when Barrett and one other person demonstrating the modifications would have been enough. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars "OK" - mostly for beginners
Overall I had mixed thoughts about this video, it wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either.
5-0 out of 5 stars I love this DVD
This is a great workout. I use it all the time with great results. There are modified moves for those who need to take it a little easier. Besides the pick your spot workouts there is also a total body workout that looks like it would be really good for someone who needs a little bit harder workout. Ellen is a great instructor, very personable and encouraging.

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective for toning in a short amount of time
I have had this DVD for 3 years, and still come back to it often. I find that it helps strengthen my core (up and down the abs), the three short (10 minute) segments make the workout go by quickly, and Ellen has clear cues. She is direct, but encouraging in the way she leads the workout. This is not a DVD that by itself will have you shedding weight, but it definitely helps tighten the abs, buns and legs, and I also notice when my abs are in better shape that I have fewer issues with lower back pain. I would say it is intermediate, but beginners can modify it, and advanced can use it as a supplement to cardo and weight training. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great lower body workout!
Now, let me tell you something: if you think Denise Austin's constance cheerleadering is annoying, I actually agree with you, but you won't be able to get annoyed while you are sweating away "the tush in the back of those legs", as she puts it, with this great lower body exercise video. If your hips, things and buttocks are the problem, this is the right video for you. Do it 3 times a week, alternated with some cardio, and you'll be amazed with the results. The exercise in this video really targets those trouble areas, and you'll feel it!5-0 out of 5 stars Great tape!
I think this tape is great! Not only does it work but Denise really gets you motivated. This is a great tape to do in the morning to get your body warmed up and stretched and is a short and sweet 30 minutes! Also, sinceI'm a child from the eighties, I like the background music and the bighair!

1-0 out of 5 stars Let's Excercise by Being Incredibly Annoying!
After reading three reviews, I decided to try Denise Austin's tape.I was frustrated by her over-rated enthusiasm, and the quality of the cheesy eighties background and attitude.Let's jump into the millenium by gettingrid of this video!I am in fairly good shape, and I work out about an houra day. However, with this tape I did not feel any sort of a difference inmy body. And on top of that, my back aches beyond belief after doing theworkout. Save yourself the money, and go jogging instead. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not much examples to do
I've already had the Stretching by Anderson book and I thought it would be 4-0 out of 5 stars preventative care, excellent info
I am a physician and interested in preventative care.I think stretching by Anderson is full of good advice for us ordinary folk to maintain good flexibility. The exercises are simple and easy to do.Anderson is the expert on this poorly understood part of exercise. This is a must video for any one serious in staying in good shape. It is not a workout video. Anderson thoroughly explains each stretch.I will probably use most of the exercises he demonstrated. I was pleasantly suprised how much care he put into stretch and massage of the feet.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stretching
I'm a 4th gup in Tang Soo Do and was looking for some help in the stretching area. This video did not come through. The instructor does an excellent job of walking you through lots of different stretches and theproper technique and then falls extremely short on the actual applicationpart. His "daily stretching routine" was nothing more than whatI learned from my P.E. coach in junior high. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Basic But Effective
I own this video on VHS, but I'm putting it on my Wish List to have it on DVD.The workout itself is 69 minutes total, and it provides a decent cardio workout as well as some strength training. Most of the routine is very basic, but I found it to be effective.Kathy's cueing is great, and I like how she even turns the class over to some of her castmates to lead. While the video is over 14 years old and the clothes are a bit dated, it's still holds up great.A good workout for beginner to intermediate steppers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good advanced step
I did enjoy this DVD, however it is advanced if you are just a beginner. It also has a lot of toning including lunges that are hard on the knees which I think may be important for some to know.I much prefer Gilad's step video, but this one is more challenging than Cher and not annoying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kathy Smith DVD ***EASY to follow
I have actually had the VHS version of this for years. To have it on DVD is wonderful! Since I usually do the same part of the video, now there is no need to wait for it to rewind or fast forward. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars HE'S A GOOD MOTIVATOR, BUT.....
this tape has a serious flaw in my opinion. i was very excited to get it after reading all the reviews here. no one mentioned that a large majority of the exercises are done out of the wheelchair lying on the floor. well, in my particular case, i cannot get out of the wheelchair down to the floor at all so this tape was a total waste of money for me. i am able to do about 5 minutes of exercises which are actually warm ups for the floor work and even they are all arm and neck work, very little leg work. it was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great workout
Someone should make a special award for Richard Simmons. What a sweetheart! Richard Simmons is able to bring fitness to all levels of abilities. This video has a great workout for those of us who aren't very ambulatory. It uses real people with real disabilities to show how each exercise is done. It's easier to follow than any other video I've tried. It's very upbeat and encouraging for those who have more than just weight to contend with.5-0 out of 5 stars Reach For Fitness
This video is great, but very low impact. It includes warming up the face, neck, shoulders, waist, legs and arms, and some simple aerobics. The second segment consists of floor exercises : sit-ups, push ups, prone lifts, andleg exercises. A good video for a disabled person not accustomed toexercising. Richard is excited and encouraging, and the video is fun to do.But for a younger, more athletic person, this video would be too simple. Iwas born with Spina Bifida and have decreased feeling from the waist down.I'm also 15, and really am unable to get a good workout with this video, although it is somewhat helpful. As I said, a great video for those whoneed a low-impact workout, or as a warm-up for the more serious disabledathlete. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars normally I love Kathy's workouts BUT NOT THIS ONE!
I usually really love Kathy's great instruction/cueing and strict attention to form and own many of her workouts but I am not keen on this one.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Toning Workout
I have numerous yoga and weight lifting/toning dvds and this is my all time favorite! I love Kathy's positive attitude without being syrupy! This really targets areas that need work and does it in a short time frame. I highly recommend this workout!

3-0 out of 5 stars Keep the workout, cut the chatter!
I enjoyed the workout, but was really turned off by Kathy's excessive giggling and hopping around from person to person. She seemed easily distracted and was so offbeat at times.I enjoyed the format of separating upper and lower body, and then abs.I just prefer less chatter when I workout, which is why I choose to work out at home instead of a gym! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Tough workout but GREAT results...my husband LOVES my buns!
Am 39yrs and wish that I had found this workout a decade earlier. After a month of consistently working out to this video, my buns are in the BEST shape of my entire life.In the beginning I could barely make it thru the first 15 minutes & groaned every time I tried to sit down.Really focusing on technique and following her instructions helped.Done incorrectly, you will stress your knees.Because I'm pear-shaped & trouble spots are more south of the border- I appreciate the fact she gets right down to business and targets these areas with exercises designed to strengthen and define the glutes/thighs/etc.In addition to the Buns video, I have added Leslie Sansone's 4-mile power-walk to the mix.Down 20# and continually working altho I've hit a plateau...probably because I'm still a night snacker (darn it).My husband commented that the top of my rear was extremely firm (nice he noticed)- but I still need to work on the lower rear and upper thighs.Am going to attempt both 15min workouts a day- instead of alternating.Should see more results kicking it up a notch. Thanks Tamilee for a FABULOUS dvd.

4-0 out of 5 stars great tape; easy to follow
Even though the exercises she did were simple, and ones we all already know, she helps you understand why they're important and what area they are working. It was great to just be able to follow someone, while working out - and it definitely worked my buns and thighs.I felt a difference after only 3 or 4 workouts. They were so intense I could only do one of the 15 minute programs for the first 7-10 days before I could do both programs on the same day! I recommend this to someone who wants simple, easy to do exercises that work. You're not doing a bunch of dancing around doing moves you don't know.

5-0 out of 5 stars really great buns!
This tape is the best - Tamilee really knows!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected at all
After reading all these wonderful reviews I was expecting something a little more professional in it's taping. As it was, the camera couldn't seem to hold still long enough to show exactly what some of the moves were.It was all over the place.I learned a few moves, but this video seemed more like an infomercial or testimony rather than an instruction video.Too much talking and not enough instruction.Over all, they teach 3 hip roles, but claim to teach 4.The fourth one is the same as the first one, just on your knees instead of standing.
4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginners
If you're not it's still great because it forces you to concentrate on your body during the movements. It also gives a lot of great advice. These moves are core moves only. If your looking for more, this video is not for you. My favorite part was actually during the credits you are able to view the instructor in action during several clips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do Something Fun for Your Lover
This video / DVD is about the art of sensual erotic dancing.Your boyfriend or husband will be dilighted and this DVD may certainly help you to add a spice to your relationship. (It did add spice to mine).

Editorial Review

This 40-minute program from veteran instructor Kathy Smith shows you how to firm and shape your arms, back, chest, and shoulders. The technique is low-rep overload, which means that you're using resistance difficult enough to challenge your muscles with fewer repetitions. This technique not only saves time, it makes your muscles stronger and shapelier than high reps and light weights or no weights. The program is carefully presented, with a variety of strength-training exercises for all the upper-body muscles. Some of the exercises here, such as pushups, use body weight for resistance. For the rest, you'll need to use weights for best results. (If you're used to working out with weights, you'll probably want to use ones that are heavier than Smith recommends.) Smith explains each exercise clearly and offers alignment tips so that you know you're doing the exercise correctly. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing results!
I had had two kids, hadn't worked out for years, was flabby and needed to lose a few pounds of fat.I started doing this video in conjunction with a lower body work out (Karen Voight's Lean Legs and Buns; I highly recommend it) and a cardio work out (which I don't recommend and won't name). In just a few months, I am lean with nicely sculpted muscles--not bulky ones, but what I see as feminine ones.Never before in my life have I had upper arms I wanted to show off.I avoided sleevelss tops and dresses like the plague. No longer!I love the way I look.
2-0 out of 5 stars A mediocre workout tape
While Kathy Smith is great at pointing out each muscle and its function, and explaining proper form, but spends too much time talking and not enough time exercising.
3-0 out of 5 stars Too much talking an too little exercising!
I personally didn't find this tape too challenging. There are very few exercises and I feel like Kathy spends most of the time talking and explaining, rather than keeping a fast pace and making the best out of the exercises. For a tape that focuses ONLY in the upper body, she could have done so much more in the same amount of time! The moves are good but too few of them. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Best Yoga I've ever seen.
Great info. on the healing your back. If it hurts move it, stretch it in other ways that doesn't hurt. Great info and has an MD that talks about back care as well.Would give 5 stars, but it's so slow like other yoga.

4-0 out of 5 stars My favorite back care video
Some of the other DVDs I've tried (like the Yoga Zone one) aren't vigorous enough for me.If you have more serious back problems, maybe they're what you need.Rodney Yee explains that after you get to know the video you can take those sections that are the most useful for you, and that's what I've done.A lot of the other reviewers have dissed the first section ("Exploration") for being boring or not challenging enough, but it's just what I need.My backaches are caused in part by contracted muscles in the lower back, and section 1 is really excellent at helping you stretch and relax those muscles. Section 2 is for strengthening and is also very necessary.
3-0 out of 5 stars So-so
This DVD isn't a good choice for beginners, because Rodney Yee doesn't explain the details of the poses (and he requires props).People looking for a challenge may not like the fact that two-thirds of the video is devoted to quiet exploration and relaxation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Yawn
There are 5 women featured.None totally shaved. The bulk of this was filmed outside which is it's downfall because a lot of what you're looking at is in the shade or in the shadow because the sun is behind them.Lighting very poor. Not enough close ups.I thought the best part was the shower scenes in the end.If I had paid full price for this one I'd be really upset.I ended up fast forwarding through much of it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Definitely Nude, Positively NOT Aerobics!
If you're looking for exercise instructions, this is not for you. There are five brunettes here. The ladies are various shapes and sizes. Most guys could probably find at least two bodies that they really liked looking-at in this group. There is five minutes of undressing, 10 minutes of "stretching," 20 minutes of a "workout," five minutes playing catch with a soccer ball in a small pool, and ten minutes of shower scenes. There is no cinematography, no choreography, no technical instructions - just amateur, home-style, video shot by two guys with camcorders. The audio is almost completely dubbed-over by one lady and some unmemorable and un-synchronized music. This is not pornography, it is not sexual or explicit. Some of the shower section is a little sensual.I watched this entire video while working out on my elliptical machine - and it kept my attention during the whole 50 minutes - making the time pass quickly. This is my first look at any of these "nude" series tapes and it was good enough to make me want to try viewing the others. So, for me, it delivered what I expected: something pleasant and inspirational to pass the time working-out.

1-0 out of 5 stars Silicone?
I give this video a rating of one star, for the only girl in this video with breast implants. Overall, I thought I would be getting "intense" exercises and not some lazy girls looking bored. The only other good thing about this video was when they went to take a shower. As a nudiest living in a nude colony, I have seen far better aerobics done by my fellow nudiests. So I actually saw some breast bouncing, unlike this video. Also unlike this video, the cameraman knows where to zoom in! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Firm tape of all time
I've been doing the Firm for about 20 years. I own or have tried just about every workout they've ever put out. This volume is still, in my opinion, the all-time BEST overall tape. It KICKS BUTT aerobically AND with weights. No time is wasted. It's an hour long and when you finish (IF you finish) you feel like you have worked HARD. I have to admit I haven't done this tape in a while because if I haven't been working out consistently, this one is daunting! That's how good it is. I love Sandahl's presence, the cuing is excellent, and I for one actually prefer the older music and sets. This tape will work every part of your body and you will feel it.Highly recommended, especially for Firm devotees. Do not let the old date of this video shy you from it, it's safe and very effective.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have if you want to get in shape!
I enjoy this video because it's fun and challenging. Ms Bergman keeps you motivated, especially when she tells you to "Get tough!" I highly recommend this tape--do it three or four times a week and you'll have your dream body in no time! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A true workout
This is a great workout! I'm pregnant and this video makes me feel sexy despite my growing belly! So far I've only used it a few times, so there are a lot of moves I haven't mastered yet. (This could of course be due to my center of gravity being off!)2-0 out of 5 stars subliminal conversion
She showed some basic moves but it went really fast. I was really not too fond of all the New Age terms she used (The begining being worshiping the Wiccan Goddess). That has nothing to do with the cultural aspect of belly dance.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most fun workout imaginable
No pushups, no situps, no high school gym class moves here!If you want to have fun while working out, this is the way to do it.I did the intro video for about two months, then moved on to this one and liked it a lot more for the "real" dancing moves and more intense workout.Despite looking like she filmed it in the polar bear den at the San Diego Zoo, Dolphina seems MUCH more comfortable with herself on camera, laughing at herself a bit and being more conversational. If you hate to work out, this is the workout you need! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Not full of fluff..
At first, I was a little disappointed in the quality of the video. It did seem to be a home video, but I think that added to it's charm.Rich Grogan seems to be just like some of the father's I know around town, making silly mistakes in his routine. He's real.I found the workout to be easy enough for my 5 year old daughter to follow and challenging enough for me to get a good workout.I have never been able to follow a video workout before. This was great and enjoyable. Both my daughters and I enjoy the workout and get more out of it each time we do it AND it doesn't require a lot of space.I like it's simplicity.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for gradeschools - The Best
This video is "A" #1 for gradeschool kids - PERIOD!!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Program for Kids
My kids & I absolutely LOVE this program. The kids on this program are having fun, because it is a fun workout, and my kids & I enjoy watching these happy little faces exercise. Kids are motivated by other kids having fun, and the joyful atmosphere that Rich Grogan instills helps make this video my families personal favorite. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The title is somewhat a misnomer: this 83-minute video isn't a "workout" so much as a ballet class. If you've taken ballet in the past--or if you've always wanted to--pull on your tights and leg warmers and enjoy this video. Melissa Lowe, a former soloist and principal dancer with several ballet companies, leads two levels of workout. Level 1 is for those with little or no ballet training; ballet experience is helpful for level 2. Each level has three segments: floor work (stretches to warm up the muscles), barre work (standing exercises and positions done holding onto a barre or chair), and center work (more intense conditioning with balance, traveling, and some jumping). If you're not already flexible, you'll find the stretches daunting, even at level 1. This is a 1984 video and doesn't have the production quality you find in more current videos, but ballet is timeless. The music is solo piano--just like in ballet class. The lithe, willowy instructor doesn't smile or try to engage the audience, but she sure knows ballet, and her flexibility and grace are awe inspiring. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good basic ballet exercises
I just rec'd this and have only done the level 1 so far - but that's enough for the meantime! I'm definitely feeling it, esp. in the upper thighs, muscles I'd forgotten I had! I purchased this because I have very poor flexibility, and having a 7 mos old baby that I carry around often, well, it's all taking its toll on my back. In the past I've taken ballet for enjoyment and it always helped to keep me flexible and toned. Plus, I get bored with doing pilates, gym classes, etc. - this is a welcome change of pace.
4-0 out of 5 stars I'm not a dancer or ballerina, but I love this workout
If you can get past the early 1980's clothing/hair/make-up and the poor transfer quality of the VHS to DVD (think a rental shop VHS that has had a few too many plays) then you will enjoy this workout. As the Amazon write up states, ballet is timeless and it wouldn't have bothered me if it was shot in the 1960's - ballet moves are ballet moves no matter what the participants are wearing!
2-0 out of 5 stars just o.k.
I own several ballet videos.I have taken ballet for many years and use videos when there are no classes available. This would be the last one I would grab. It's doable but the explanations are poor and the video is frustrating to watch. The camera person zooms in too much and makes it hard to follow along. The sequences are poorly put together.I much prefer David Howard or Dimitri R. ballet videos. They are wonderful if you know ballet.I hope I will find more challenging tapes out there. ...
