Editorial Review

If you think you know abdominal workouts, challenge yourself with this unusual video, based on yoga, classical dance, and the work of Joseph Pilates. "Strength and endurance, suppleness and flexibility," promises instructor Jennifer Kries. Every exercise starts from and focuses on the abdominals. Done lying on a mat, a 15-minute workout teaches you the basics of the exercises to come, demonstrating how to work your torso muscles in new ways, such as "roll-ups" and long leg circles. Then a 30-minute workout puts these exercises into a sequence and adds some more-advanced variations, such as sitting on your tailbone in a jackknife position--upper body and legs off the floor making a V-shape--and doing various movements from that position without losing your balance. This exercise technique gets the deep, postural abdominal muscles as well as those you're used to working. It also works the legs, hips, and buttocks, but the ab work is the best part. Kries gives clear, detailed instruction. She is so limber she could probably comb her hair with her toes, but don't be dismayed--you don't have to be that flexible to benefit from the workout. 5-0 out of 5 stars Method to her madness
This is without a doubt...the best video I have ever bought!Jennifer Kries is a very good instructor.I sweat more doing this 45 minute tape, than ridding the stationary bike for an hour.Through my own experiance, you MUST regularly do this tape for at least 2 months before you will REALLY see results.I think I spent the first 2 months mastering the different moves. Then when I had done so...I could start concentrating on feeling the burn in my muscles. This tape WILL change the shape of your body...and you will see a difference, but you must stick with it.The Method Precision Sculpting video is also really good.I have been incorporating both tapes into my routine...and seeing the results I want.

3-0 out of 5 stars An ok workout
I kind of like this workout. It is somewhat challenging, although I get bored with it quickly.I'm not particularly fond of Jennifer Kries' teaching methods either.I don't doubt that she is skilled in what she does, she's just very bland, as is the workout and the appearance of the set. This was the first pilates video I bought. I did it a couple of times, and then didn't do pilates again for almost a year.I would suggest starting with Ana Caban's beginners video if you are new to pilates.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this work out!!
This is a great video! I cant say enough good things. I just had a baby and was in a car accident while pregnant resulting in back injuries. I thought Pilates may not be for me because I was so out of shape and injured. Definatly not the case! Another person said there were no modifications to the moves and you had to be fairly fit to even try this work out. Not so!! Several times she says to go only as far as comfortable, you have to follow her directions- then you have a completly tailored work out. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars RICHARD'S BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!
The main reason I decided to go with Richard Simmons as opposed to ALL those many other fitness gurus out there is that he's been on the other side of bad health and obesity. He is FOR REAL and very encouraging when it comes to eating right, exercising, and relating to how hard it is to live healthy and to lose weight. His motto is always to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF and DON'T GIVE UP, one day at a time. When we see Richard today in 2006, he is high energy, electric, and talks fast. But in this 1994 tape, he looks less hyper, is more low key, and talks slower and softer. He understands and comes across as very sincere in his desire to help people to get on the road to good health through nutrition and exercise. The beginning part is basic food knowledge that everyone should know. The exercise part seems like Richard Simmons in slow motion. And he always includes people to exercise along with him in his videos who are overweight and dealing with the Battle of the Bulge too, so I don't feel alone.I'd rather exercise with these real folks than those skinny, shapely, muscular, model-looking aerobics instructors (most people don't look like them anyway). This tape is very inspiring and encouraging and has got to be the absolute bottom line easiest exercise video for the most out-of-shape person on the planet!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for out of shape and great for warm-up!!
This video is great for those who do not know where to begin. The first 15-20 minutes is a nutrition class and you meet some of richards clients who have lost a great deal of weight.the last 40 minutes is the actual aerobicportion. This is a very slow aerobic video so if you have been flustered in the past on keeping up you do not have to worry.I found the video not as advanced for me but I enjoy it because I am using it as my warm-up before I do my treadmill so I pop this video in and warm-up for 5-10 minutes then go to treadmill for my fatburning part.Richard is not crazy in this video he is quite tame in personality.Hope this helps!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for slow movers
If you have been a couch potatoe, this is the video to get you up and starting to move. It is very low impact. I have arthritis in both knees and hips, and this video lets me move and not be in pain. I would reccommend this to everyone. I had this tape a long time ago, and lost it when I moved. I was very happy to find it again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great exercise routine for Fibromyalgia
The Beginning Callenetics routine is the best because it isn't too hard on your body, yet you see results. I've had fibromyalgia for 3 years and this is the first exercise routine I've found that I can do and not be "out of it" for the next three days. It should be out on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars disappointed with the service of amazon.co.u.k.
I ordered this video Nov. 17 from amazon.co.u.k.I received it Nov. 24, only to have a blank tape, all I got on my screen was black and white lines.I wrote them an e-mail and returned the tape the next day, two weeks later I still have received no acknowledgement from them.I had this tape before and love it, it broke and I havn't been able to locate another one, so I resorted to the internet which was a mistake.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Can't Believe Its Not Available
There is no doubt that all of the Callanatic exercise videos are simply the best and most effective tapes (not) on the market today.Someone's not paying attention.Check out ebay; old tapes are selling for mega bucks. These things should be reissued on DVD's.The sooner the better. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This two-video set by Billy Blanks includes two 30-minute Tae-Bo workouts. Although they're "basic" by Tae-Bo standards, they're not wimpy. In the first workout, Blanks starts with a warm-up and stretch, then he takes you to the floor for a killer muscle-conditioning routine for the abdominals, legs, and buttocks. Then you get onto your feet for a kickboxing routine. Blanks pre-teaches the moves so you understand the technique. The second workout keeps you on your feet the whole time, jabbing and kicking. Blanks introduces multiple moves slowly, one part at a time. In both videos, he motivates you to push yourself but work out safely--he gives careful instructions about form and technique. This is a good video set if you've had some Tae-Bo experience, need guidance to do the moves correctly, want to avoid complex combinations, and want to monitor your intensity. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Um.... I like it?
Yeah, this is a pretty good work out. It makes you sweat. The 8 minute work out will make you have a heart attack if you are not careful! I liked how there were heavy people and older people along with the super in shape people. I suspect that this work out has good results. I myself have only done it three times, so I wouldn't REALLY know. But after those three times, I felt fantastic! It's worth a shot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Billy, you saved my life!
I bought this DVD almost three years ago. These were the first two Tae Bo workouts I ever did. At that time I was fat and unhealthy and depressed. Tae Bo helped me pull myself back up. There is something about the music and the moves (and Billy!) that pulled me in so that I WANTED TO WORKOUT!!! I found myself arranging my day around my workout. Now I have become a lifelong exerciser and am addicted to kickboxing. You have to love the workout or you won't do it, and for me Tae Bo is easy to love because it is so fun.
5-0 out of 5 stars Tae-bo "Get Ripped II" Basic Workout will get you in shape!
I bought the Tae-bo "Get Ripped II" Basic series last week, and I love it. Tae-bo "Get Ripped II" is now my primary workout program with a little yoga here and there. I found the pace a little fast in the beginning, but since then I have eventually learned the moves and can now match the pace.

This 1993 video is a one-hour workout combining stop-and-start cardiomovements that are athletic (no dance) with muscle endurance moves with andwithout light weights. The cardio section uses moves like jogging, jumping, legswings, and power moves such as fast lunge combinations, squats with jumps, andkarate kicks. The lower body strengthening moves include variations of lungesand squats using body weight. The upper-body weight exercises are varied butdone too quickly--it's easy to rely on momentum. Some of these exercises areoddly chosen: a number of the exercises that are supposed to work the chestfatigue the shoulders and back long before the chest muscles feel anything, forexample. You'll certainly feel the many sets of ab exercises, however!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE NEXT..... NO.... THE BEST CHALLENGE!!!!
I swear by this workout! I'm a 21 year old college student who grew up being the unathletic, out of shape, pudgy girl. I pulled this video out of storage my sophomore year of college and did it religiously for 2 months ( sometimes 2 times a week, other times 3 times a week )! Not only did I shed 2% body fat (as tested by my exercise physiology teacher with the underwater weighing method), but I never looked better! Or FELT better! And people noticed! HECK YEAH! I'm teaching an aerobics class this coming semester and I plan on using this workout. THANK YOU CINDY!!! (and Radu- you're the coolest)!
5-0 out of 5 stars Challenging and Timeless
If you loathe exercise videos in which the instructor is telling you "good job - keep it up - way to go - that looks good" when you know they can't see you, this is an excellent alternative.Cindy is clear in her instructions, of course her body is inspirational, and she doesn't insult your intelligence. The video itself is shot in some beautiful locations and the music isn't overbearing. The actual exercise sequences are challenging and continue to be so - even if you use this tape several times a week for a few months like I did.The best thing about this video is the results - I used this video several years ago and got down to a healthy size 4/6.I just ordered the DVD version to get me back into shape after having my first baby and can't wait to start this routine again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great work out!
I have used this workout tape forever, and finally needed to upgrade to the DVD. I do this video in portions, legs one day arms the next. Legs is about 20 minutes and you will feel the work you did for days. I strongly recommend this video! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Okay for Light Days
I have been working out for about a month, and when I first started, this video was pretty challenging. (PS I'm trying to lose about 60 lbs.)After I had been working out for about 2-3 weeks, and I knew the dance steps pretty well, this video became a breeze. I like to use it on my "I don't feel like working out today" days, when I want a 'lite' workout. If you can get past the flirting, bad camera angles (not showing foot shots when they are demonstrating moves) and shameless self promotion (yeah, go scandal, work it!) I think this is a fun video with good workout music. When you know the dance moves and you don't want to slow your heart rate down when they are showing them to you, just march (or jog) in place. They have a great cool down, and even stop (once) to check your heart rate to make sure you're working as hard as you should. Four stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars HOOKED!
I have had worked out with the video for about 5 years and I love it!The steps were easy to learn. Now, I do the warm-up, go straight to the routine, workout with the group, rewind and do routine again. My heartrate reaches advanced level, I'm burning fat and toning at the same time. This is my first Grind workout video and I am definitly purchasing another one. It's so much more fun than regular aerobics.I'm hooked!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners
This was the first exercise tape that I ever bought. The dance routine is broken down so that it is easy to learn and it is definitely fun to do.Although this tape got me excited about starting to exercise, I would not recommend this tape to most people. This tape failed to get my heart rate up and I really didn't see any results from doing it 3-5 times per week. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wish it was on DVD
This is an essential, highly effective workout. I've had it for years, and whenever I see my abs get a little poochy, I pop this in my VCR. Did I mention how gret it would be if they put this out on DVD?!I've even received comments on how flat my abs are following so much as one of these workouts. Good cueing, good flow of routine. I normally skip the cool down portion, and do my own, as I don't think there's anything special about it- would have given 4 1/2 stars if possible. But again, this is a highly effective and reliable ab workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple but effective
I have had this tape since 1998 and it's still one of the best routines I've encountered even after taking special abs classes at the gym. I've tried other convoluted ab moves by instructors at the gym, but I often go back to this video because sometimes you just want a simple and effective ab workout. This is especially the case when I had to go to physically therapy for my low back/tail bone. My back pain prevented me from performing many ab exercises, but most the moves in this video were safe enough for me to do without aggravating my back as long as I kept my knees slightly bent.
5-0 out of 5 stars The results speak for themselves.
I completely agree with the review by "pioq" given 4/17/03, on every point. But would like to add that if you are like me, unable to take high impact exercise, you will probably enjoy this series for its intense yet gentle approach. Repetition is key, and the stretching and cool-downs are also very effective. I can count on these workouts to give me results that are quick to show and feel plus they are long lasting. And they speak for themselves. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good for body &mind
I love this workout video. I hate to excercise, but will do it to this video.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good workout, poor videography
I was really excited when this video arrived in my mailbox.I ripped off the plastic, shrugged into my leg warmers, and stuck it in my VCR...5-0 out of 5 stars No regrets!
This video workout does take time, but is very worth it. I am a former ballet student, now grandma with arthritis and back problems. This workout makes my muscles, warm, relaxed, never had a strain or sore result. I really value ballet that keeps the long, lean lines which I was taught to look for as a factor to weigh if it was done/taught correctly. I may never return to the limberness I had (what was that? splits? yeah right!)but really appreciate this workout.I have many other videos that ended up in the garbage, or unused. This one, I get out and do! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!
This video is PERFECT for an athlete looking for a great ab routine.I've talked body builders into trying it (the kind who do 800 crunches a day) and it totally wipes them out.Fit it in just once a week to your fitness and diet program and you WILL see results!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best workout I've ever did
Except for my back pains. I just started yesterday and I can really feel my abs and butt getting stronger. But my back is really killing me. Maybe a pillow under it will help.

3-0 out of 5 stars tae bo on crack?
this workout plays as if it's on fast-forward, down to the music which literally sounds like a cassette tape that's playing in fast mode. and the music has to be the most godawful workout soundtrack i have ever heard! having said that, if you do not want to risk pulling a back muscle, try doing the workout at a slower pace. the ab work is good and works the whole group of muscles BUT there is simply no need to go at that breakneck pace. advanced doesnt mean it has to be faster. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars High Strung - a comical masterpiece
I saw this movie when i served in The Norwegian Artillery in 1995. We were posted in the Norwegian mountains, and to entertain ourselves me and my platoon buddies drove three norwegian miles down to the nearest "town" where we rented "High Strung" and some other crap Hollywood comedy.
5-0 out of 5 stars the greatest movie ever
this is without a doubt the greatest movie ever.it is genius.pure undiluted genius.everything in my life is so much better just because this movie exists.when i saw that they had it on amazon dot com i almost peed my pants with excitement.i first saw this movie when i was 13 and years later i am still OBSESSED with it.whenever someone asks me what my favorite movie is, i automatically say high strung even if i havnet thought about the movie for a long time.whenever I eat cereal i think fondly of too much cereal milk.and when i was in california last summer i saw a watermelon popsicle with seeds and almost had a stroke.if you havent seen this movie, you are not complete as a person.buy it now.I am going to.I'm actually about to cry I can't believe I'm buying high strung.HIGH STRUNG = GREATEST MOVIE EVER.so put that in your pipe and smoke it.
5-0 out of 5 stars this is one of the best movies ever
this is a b movie but is awesome. It is a lot like seinfeld the way the crapiest stuff happens to him and it seems every things going wrong for him. I would spend $20 on this movie I dont know if I would spend much more. Jim Carrey plays a very small role in this as the devil ... Read more

Editorial Review

This intermediate-to-advanced video from the trendy gym Crunch will work all your muscles, including your heart. The intense half-hour workout is divided into seven-and-a-half-minute segments. Instructor Susan Hitzman and her class of young, perfect hardbodies (showing off incredibly tight, sculpted midriffs) demonstrate strengthening moves that combine upper- and lower-body muscles, for example, doing an overhead press with weights and a squat simultaneously, varying the rhythm for intensity. And, of course, it wouldn't be "boot camp" without pushups. "Remember, I would rather you gave me 4 excellent pushups than 12 sloppy ones!" Hitzman announces. By the end you'll be begging for mercy, because each segment has progressively harder pushup variations, including some you've never tried. Hitzman also gives you your fill of lunges and cardio moves such as jumping jacks. Meanwhile the upper-body strength exercises get progressively more difficult with each segment, as do the abdominal routines. Hitzman is a fine, innovative instructor, cueing clearly with plenty of instruction for doing the moves correctly. If you think you've done it all, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars super workout
this is a great one- gets your muscles working!!! I alternate between this one and the "Crunch- cardio sculpt" on my off days from the gym- a well-worth it effort & a decent workout for 30 minutes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun!
This DVD is fun and effective. If you keep up and do it with maximum intensity, you can really feel it! I would definitely recommend this DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get down and give me 20!
Although I enjoy Pilates and yoga, I need a good workout that makes me sweat.Boxing and martial arts classes are great for that purpose. But there are times where I prefer to feel the burn at home.To that end, one of the best cardio/strength DVD workouts I've found is "Crunch: Boot Camp Training."

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Beautiful
I love this video. It is a great start to welcome the day or a mini vacation for your soul at the end of a stressful day. I recommend this video to all especially full figure gals as the movements are grounded
5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific dance video and great exercise!
I bought this dvd because I was out of shape, looking for some variety in my workout routine, and because it was so well rated.
4-0 out of 5 stars Spontaneous dance, great instruction, somewhat poor structure
I will warn everyone that this is workout is not typical aerobic-style workouts, where there is a strict structure and pattern of dance. Wyoma imparts the spontaneity of African dance into the class, and while she guides you on the dances, she does not give you counts or very many transitions. Wyoma is a dancer, and is not approaching this from an aerobic exercise perspective. This workout is going to be different from your Crunch or Tae-Bo workouts.

4-0 out of 5 stars TOUGH
If I do this tape without any weights, i can get thru the entire tape, feel sore for the next day and see results. If i use the weights i can only do 1/2 the tape, feel sore the next day and see results.I try to switch it up, one week use weights, the next week no weights. My legs are pretty thin and show muscle quickly which is fortunate for me.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Buns & Thighs workout on tape
I have most of the FIRM tapes and Standing Legs is, by far, the best if your problem area is the [...] & thighs.

I didn't expect this video to be well, so..."old-school".The whole feel of the video is so 80's/early 90's, and I found the music to be terrible.I do however believe that the workout itself is pretty good...I definately could feel the burn.I'm not sure if it motivates me enough to stick with it for the long-run. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Worth Buying

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cardio workout!
I love this workout!I have done the original Tae-Bo, but have never gone to the advanced taped so I was familiar with the moves but not a Tae-Bo veteran.I am so glad I bought this video - it is definately my favorite.I love Billy's motivational style. It makes you want to keep going when you feel like quitting.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely great
I'm a bona fide Tae Bo veteran.I've been doing it for 4-6 hours a week for years, and I'm very accustomed to the Tae Bo II Advanced Get Ripped workouts, which are definitely in the "VERY DIFFICULT" category.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great music, fun
What I really love about this video is the music -- it's Motown oldies and not a synthesized bland track, like most of the other exercise tapes. It is a little challenging to learnSOME of the moves, but you can reverse and try again! Also consider that you will have this tape a long time and you can keep practicing. Or just move to the music your own way, until the next song.
5-0 out of 5 stars Donna-Mite is truly a pick me upper!
I give this five stars because when I first used the tape, even though it was challenging to learn the moves at first (but got it after the 2nd or 3rd time), I was having so much fun I found myself surpised when she said they were going to do a cooldown and I had actually sweated (wearing a sweat shirt)! This is intermediate because she moves fast even though it's low impact. I consider this to be at a steady and consistent space not an up and down (interval) heart rate like in the Firm (which I love). It's a great non-impact, "no equipment needed" and fun workout to do on non-strenous days or in conjunction with strength training! You'll learn some great dance steps in the process too!

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed!!
I didn't like the workout, Donna's teaching style and some of the music that was played in the background. She talks way too much. It only got my heart rate up very little. The workout was not fun at all!Save your money and invest in Tamilee's Tighter Assets or her "I want that" series. It is a much better investment. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Strong arms
I love Tamilee. She knows her stuff and keeps you motivated. I have all 3 I want those ABS, Arms and buns. I would have purchsed I want that Body but already had the seperate tapes. They are all great.I just wish there was a little more for the Triceps. My fatest part of my arm. I also enjoy the Firm workouts as well as Denise Austins Pilates and Blast 10 lbs. Tamilee's workouts can be as intense as you make them. Increase your weights! You can always pick up lighter ones if it gets to hard. These workouts target the area and really give it a workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars fabulous
Very effective for any fitness level (just add more weight).Down to business no frills get what you want workout. And to the previous reviewer who complained about the no chest exercises.....Read The Title of the Workout. It never said anything about chest.I saw and felt a difference in my arms after 10 uses of this tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars you will feel it!
This strength workout for your arms is challenging for beginners through advanced.(obviously by increasing the amount of weights your use).I like it b/c its concise and down to business. There is no "dancy" moves or too long of a warm up.I really recommend this workout to anyone. I hope she comes out with an "I want those legs!".....her ab video is also VERY good.and challenging!Do it for about 3-4 weeks then switch it up with other workouts so you don't hit a plateau.you can always increase the weights as well!Go for it!you will FEEL it.:) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great!!
I am a Yoga Zone fan. With this collection I can pick my choice of yoga. I especially enjoy the Yoga for Abs as it really makes you sweat and you can feel a difference. Great collection with two sessions in each cassette. Namaste

2-0 out of 5 stars Yoga Snore
I really disliked these videos.I was surprised to find, after reading the other reviews, that these videos were boring, cheezy, and entirely too easy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Will get you started
This is the first set of yoga tapes I ever bought and actually use. I've tried Living Yoga for beginners but found them complicated and hard to follow. Yoga Zone's instructors are very knowledgeable and easy to follow. This set gives you 2 20 minute workouts per tape so variety is never a problem. These tapes will give you a great workout if you are new to yoga. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it when I was youner!
When I was in the 4th grade I saw it at Blockbuster & I asked my mom to get it for me.I enjoyed it.I would not give this to a baby, but I think that fitness promotion is great especially since this is the age of video games.Too many people are overweight in our society and if this is something that would promote health is young people then I am all for it.

2-0 out of 5 stars bad
I hate the girls in this video. They are ultra-skinny (looks like their parents keep on denying them food), have smiles too big to be true, and they are unnaturally pretty. Barbie never seems to get tired, if she was a REAL human she would tire out halfway though this junk. Everybody seems to have been taking a TON of stimulants. (Like the other reviewer said)Why do they have to make Barbie totally perfect? My eight year old cousin watched this and she hates it too.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm almost 21 and I still love it!
I honestly don't know what all the negative reviews are about. It seems a lot of people here are saying it's impossible to keep up with the moves and that it's easy even for an adult to get frustrated. Okay, first of all, I think my mom bought this tape for me when I was 9 or 10 years old. The minute I put it into my VCR and started in, I adored it. I got hooked immediately. I have always been overweight, ever since childhood, and even then I had no problem keeping up with it. Now, maybe that's because I just love to dance in general, but if a heavier kid like me could do it, I think anyone can. Of course, I would never give it to a 5-year-old and expect them to do it, but if you're a little older, like maybe 9 or 10, I don't see it as being an unreasonable workout.
