Are you aware that 75 percent of daily conversation is negative? While you may not have noticed that, you are no doubt aware of the stress and hassles of everyday life. Loretta LaRoche, an adjunct member on the faculty of the Behavior Institute of Medicine, which is an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is determined to break you out of your cycle of negativity. Half comedian, half therapist, Loretta wants you to see the lighter side of situations. After all, optimists live longer. "Pessimists are accurate," she says, "but they don't live as long."Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars extremely irritating and annoying
Many people find Loretta Laroche (the presentor in this video) very funny, but personally I found her extremely irritating and annoying. Her loud whiny nasal tone really got under my skin.I did not laugh once throughout the entire video.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended
Bought this video partly because so many other reviewers said how funny they found it, and because we thought it might have been useful for people under stress in our organisation. Three of us watched it together and were very disappointed. We didn't find it funny at all - in fact, we didn't even find it amusing. Maybe it appeals more to a US/Canadian sense of humor? (I don't mean to imply anything about the US/Canadian senses of humor other than it might be different from ours).5-0 out of 5 stars Funniest Video
I watched this video while walking on the treadmill, and I had to keep stopping to go to the bathroom because I was laughing so hard. I suffer from most (okay, all) of what she makes fun of. I have been struggling with depression, and have decided to watch this video every day for a month while working out and see what happens. I'm also giving it as a birthday present for everyone I know who is too serious about life. I really didn't expect much from this video except that I thought it might be helpful, but Loretta is as funny as Bill Cosby. She has really changed my mindset on life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Stomachs - Joanie Greggains
I first bought this video in the 80's.My first impression was that it was outdated and slow moving but it wasn't intimidating and didn't take a lot of time and that kept me coming back day after day.Hard to believe that 15 minutes a day would make a difference but true to her word I felt results right away and saw them after only a couple of weeks.I wore my first tape out and lost the second to my sister.I'm on my third now and still feel the same way, no need for bells and whistles just the slow burn of some great exercises and something that easily fits into my schedule.

5-0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal
This is the best ab workout I've ever seen...within 6 months of daily use I went from a chubby belly to a rock hard 8 pack (yes, I had two extra "boxes"). It's now been 4 years since
5-0 out of 5 stars Still The Best
This is still the best ab workout you can find.I have gone through three of these tapes and lost them during moves, and can't live without it.I'm a procrastinator and many times lazy, but this is one workout I never passed up.The first time you do it might be a little intense, but you will definently feel the burn. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Love it Love it
I would have to say this is one of the best aerobics videos out there.although it can be complicated sometimes, but isn't all aerobics like that.I love seeing various types of people doing the exercise with me.It makes me feel that if those people can do it, so I can I.Unlike other tapes where I feel I can't become like them.It has great songs and wonderful cool down time.So if your having a hard time catching up with other aerobics video, this is for you. This is a stepping stone for the high impact aerobics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for pre-teens or anyone with long term excersize needs
This is the best tape I own.I have been using it daily for 7 months and have dropped 78lbs so far (42lbs to go!).This tape does not try to exhaust you but instead target that 120 bpm range for the 25 minute of recommened exercise along with two target stretch songs and a warm up and cool down song (total 10 songs) it is perfect if your looking for something you can talk yourself into doing everyday. No way could I ever do an "exhaust-O" tape and keep with it for this long. The songs are upbeat and fun which I think kids would like too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this tape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is my favorite of all of Richard Simmons's tapes. The workout is fun, easy to follow and can be done with a lot of gusto for a solid, sweaty workout or (I blush to admit this) sort of half heartedly and I still will get my heart beating.Tiny breaks between every song give me just enough time to keep hydrated and the music, set and overall production values are high. There's that motivational bit at the end, where you can see how much people have lost and even some funny outtakes.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars absence of verbal instruction is soothing
Great for advanced beginners to intermediate hatha practitioners.this dvd uses no verbal instruction beyond merely stating what pose to move into next.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE Best Yoga for daily workout--no redundant chatter!!!
I discovered yoga years ago with Rodney's Power Yoga for Beginners. It held my interest for quite a while.Eventually I put in on a cassette tape so I could use it before rehearsals for a show I was doing. After a while, I longed for something different.I tried Lilias, but she is SOOOO slow, it's hard to get a workout.I tried others, but their stacatto, clipped voices took away all the relaxation benefits I get from yoga.Rodney understands ambience. The visuals are beautiful, the voice tone is relaxing, the background music adds to the experience, and he's really easy on the eyes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Practice............ Rodney Yee is poetry in motion.
I have been doing yoga 4-6 times a week for a few months so I thought I was ready for this - ha!! I was very sore for a couple of days but VERY energized! For intermediate yoga students only (beginners will be confused), this tape is fantastic. It's a great, full-body workout. With it's lengthy warm-up session (usually, I fast-forward through warm ups), it's the perfect tape for AM practice. I love the structure of the tape, and the minimal voice-over.

4-0 out of 5 stars 22yr old girl trying to loose the college weight!!
What's nice about this exercise video is that you don't realize how much time goes by!!! You do a 40 min workout in what feels like 20 min!! The women are all very in shape, but I found that actually motivated me!! (I wanted their abs!!)At first, I thought the salsa dancing would be difficult but it was actually pretty easy!! I have absolutely no coordination and by the end of this video it actually makes you feel like a sexy dancer!! Something I never thought I would feel!!Overall, great video when you are just getting back into the exercise scene!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun
I don't usually call any form af exercise fun so I bought this video hoping that dancing my way to fitness might work for me.I really like this video because even though I am not coordinated and I have no sense of rhythm I can actually do this video and enjoy myself in the process. It took me about 3 times doing the workout before I was comfortable with the steps but even if you mess up the steps you are still getting a good workout.Maybe exercisers that are used to an hour of heart pumping, high impact aerobics might find this video a little easy and maybe authentic salsa dancers might think that the moves are not true latin dance but if you are like me and want a fun, fast easy to follow video, this is a great choice.

"Do you want to get toned to the bone?" shouts Richard Simmons. "Yes!" his class yells back. This half-hour video comes with a "Tonin' Cord," rubber tubing with handles, used for muscle strengthening in place of weights. First Simmons gives instruction for using the tubing correctly and effectively. Then he warms up his class, who happen to be instructors from his exercise studio, Slimmons. (It's great to see fit instructors that aren't all slender.) The toning class uses the tubing to create resistance to work the legs, chest, arms, shoulders, and back. The exercises are varied and effective (sometimes enabling you to work two muscle groups at once), and the tubing gives enough resistance to make the workout challenging. 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR THE OUT-OF-SHAPE LIKE ME!
The good thing about this tape is that he works all your body parts---legs, arms, back, abs, and chest. So you're getting a complete muscle toning workout.Unlike his faster paced, electrically charged aerobics workouts, he moves more slowly in this tape. The exercises are more concentrated on the different muscle groups.I haven't exercised in a while, but I could still keep up without feeling behind or out of breath. And, there's always that Richard Simmons energy and gentle tone of encouragement throughout the video to keep everyone going. As Richard says, "Don't Give Up!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Toning Workout !
I've been using this tape for about 5 months and think it's not only a great toning workout, but fun to use.My husband bought it a few years ago and when I wanted to lose weight and get toned up, I decided to give it a try - with great skepticism.I'll admit I was wrong - this is a great tape and Richard Simmons is inspirational, motivational and just funny.
5-0 out of 5 stars great workout--you can adjust intensity/difficulty, pace
I have been exercising for years and I believe this tape provides an intense strength/toning workout. Toning cords and resistance bands seem to be all the rage right now. It's easy to see why. Both the videotape and the cords are inexpensive and you can really feel it in your muscles after you're done. Plus, you can go at your own pace and adjust the cords to increase the difficulty once you pass the beginner stage. The only thing I wish the tape had were more exercises to work the glutes. It's very thorough on upper body and has a good deal of abdominal exercises that won't bore you. The time goes by quickly while doing this workout. Great! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love, Love, LOVE this workout!
If I could only have one workout video, this would be it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Solid strength routine...
This is not one of my favorite Firm videos, but it's a very good workout that hits all the muscle groups in about 45 minutes. There are some very brief cardio sections as well for added variety.Tracie Long who is one of the best instructors that came out of The Firm leads you.You will need assorted dumbells, Fanny Lifter or stool, and a dowel or broom/mop handle.
5-0 out of 5 stars this tracie long video is the core of my workout.
it took me a minute to realize i had this tape under the name All weights since around 1998. i am disappointed as for a minute there i thought i missed buying one of tracies workouts. i've said in other reviews for her other videos ( The tortoise and the hare scuplting with weights etc)i just love tracie long as an instructor. i have lost serious inches due to this fun and tough workout. and i just love also the other firm workouts, they are tough but they WORK.. 4-0 out of 5 stars Requires some space to work.
I enjoy this video, especially the toning segments. They really give me a workout without my thinking, "when will this be over?". The aerobic circuits aren't too difficult, but a couple of them require deep squats, which are really hard on my knees. I just don't do them, but then I feel like I haven't worked hard enough! But I get up a good sweat with this video regardless. Karen does use some travelling steps which will require a fair-sized area in which to work. This video feels more "friendly" than some others, with Elle speaking some lines and the views of the lovely outdoor setting. I just wish it were on DVD so could skip to my favorite parts, or use the toning segments here and cardio circuits elsewhere. Karen cues appropriately and is no hyper, whooping fluff chick and I appreciate that! I'm sticking with Karen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of many
I've used many different workout videos in the past, I had this one and used it often back in 1998. My personal opinion of this video was that it was the most enjoyable and challenging set of workouts out of my entire collection. Be warned that some of the more intense excercises require a lot of room to move so do this some where that is spacious.

5-0 out of 5 stars This tape is awesome!
Like alot of other people, I've had this tape for a number of years.I just started using it again a little while back and realized how great it is even a decade later. The moves are pretty basic and gradully pick up intensity as the tape progresses. The scenery is beautiful and the music selection fits the exercises well. The hour really does fly by.I read somewhere that you should give yourself7 days to get into any new habit.I will admit the first week back into this tape I thought it was going to kill me!Once I got over that hump, it is just now part of my routine 3 times a week (although Karen Voight's website states you can use it five times a week)Like many others, I wish this would be released on DVD and have expressed that thought via Karen's website.

Editorial Review

This step workout is broken into three segments for different levels of stamina and complexity. You can do just level 1 (12 minutes) or continue through level 2, for 22 minutes, or through level 3, for 32 minutes. Within each segment, Keli Roberts's assistants demonstrate different intensities, so you can work at your own pace as you build endurance. Roberts instructs well, with plenty of safety and alignment tips, and she repeats the combinations enough for you to get them. But the camera has an annoying habit of changing angles when she first introduces a new pattern, which is just when you want to keep watching her feet. Advanced exercisers will add some propulsion moves, such as jumping onto the step. After the step workout and stretch, you get 8 minutes of killer abdominals, and finally a calming, guided relaxation. Roberts is a celebrity trainer, and you can see why from the professional way she instructs this video--and from the to-die-for body that must motivate her clients! Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best for a beginner - Transitions are rough
While the workout helps you break a sweat, you have to overcome some challenges with the instructor. The transitions are not smooth and as a seasoned stepper, I would have expected a higher caliber lead.As someone else mentioned, Kelli refers to some of the moves using non-standard terms. While different terms are acceptable, the instructions and demonstrations were a bit challenging to grasp simultaneously.I had to stop the workout several times to grasp the movement and count. At this point, I've got the routine down and I like the progressive intensity.I would not recommend this tape to a beginner.I recommend the Reebock Step Workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keli Roberts - Ultimate Step Workout
I am 40 years old and I enjoyed this video very much. It is not "dancy" yet it is interesting. It is easy to learn and a good challenge.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent - Feel the burn
This is a great video and Brungardt is a superb instructor. His book is the best I've read on abs and this is one of the best ab videos I've used. There are actually three workouts on the video. Each gets a bit more challenging.
5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST AB WORKOUTS ON THE MARKET
I am a women and I love this video.Years ago a guy in blockbuster video recommended it.I tried it and I was pleasingly surprised. If you're a beginner, then you should definitely start with level one and work your way up.Each level is challenging and effective.Kurt Brungardt is an awesome trainer. He works each section of your abs.No muscle is left out.Doing this workout along with a little change in your eating habit, I assure you, you would be amazed at the results you'll see.I highly recommend this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smart, very smart
"We're gonna train hard, but we're gonna train smart": Kurt Brungardt delivers on this promise. This video is extremely well thought-through; Kurt spends ample time warming you up and cooling you down--more than the actual workouts, and those are graded in a realistic progression. The one person who didn't give this video five stars probably didn't follow Kurt's advice about not trying to do all the reps when starting out; it's entirely possible to follow the program at one's own pace. Kurt is a lot more saavy than your typical fitness guru; you'll appreciate the thought that went into this tape as much as the abs that come out of it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars irritating but effective
This video used to be the only one available for pregnant people. I have used it for three pregnancies, including my current one which is a twin pregnancy. The music is elevator Glori Estefan. Denise is a little too perky for the hormonal, the moves are dated and the costumes are ridiculous. That being said, it's great for begining exercisers or off days for those who are too tired for anything more intense. There are some weak toning exercises for the core and lower body after the 20 minute cardio segment. You could always put it on mute and listen to better music!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not if you're familiar with aerobics
This tape is ok for beginners (she takes time to explain proper positions, etc.) but I found it less than rewarding. Walking around while pumping your arms would have been as effective and cost much less!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good pregnancy and follow-up workout
I used this workout all through my pregnancy, clear up until a couple days before delivery. It was enough of a workout to get the blood pumping, but without raising my heart beat up past what doctors say is safe during pregnancy. Ask your doctor before doing the floor work portion of the workout in the last trimester though. This is a slower paced workout, but really helps keep problems like high blood pressure, weight gain and other pregnancy related problems to a minimum.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleased with Pilates
Denise Austin's Pilates for Every Body is an excellent workout video emphasizing the core muscles of the lower back and abdomine.Denise uses stretching, resistance bands, and Pilates exercises, focusing on the quality, not the quantity of repetitions. She encouragesmore from experienced exercises and suggests some alternatives for beginners.I especially like using the resistance bands.Yes, I pleased with Pilates!

5-0 out of 5 stars NOT boring...
I am not a Pilates expert, or an expert of any kind of exercise, but I know what I like.I have many, many aerobics and Pilates videos, but this is the first and ONLY one that I do over and over.I agree that maybe it is not for beginners, but even as someone who started out with a very weak core, I found the exercises fantastic.I have done this video 1-2 times/week for about 4-5 weeks, now.I still can't believe it's not collecting dust like all my other videos.I understand that Denise's style is not for everybody, but I find that I start the workout with a 'ho-hum' attitude more often than I'd like to admit.By the end of the workout, I feel positive and strong.I don't need a workout to lull me right back to sleep....I need someone to change my attitude as well as my body, so Denise works for me!The exercises change often enough to keep me from getting bored.I really love this video.I can feel myself getting stronger, I work up a sweat, and get my heart pumping.I feel like I've DONE SOMETHING when I've finished!I highly recommend this for anybody who wants a total body workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get STRONG Abs - for Seniors, too!
This is my favorite Denise Austin tape - just LOVE it!Today, I'm a very fit64-year old, thanks in part to "Pilates for Every Body." For years, I'd concentrated only on fitness walking, gardening, and moderate-level exercises; without strength training, my body was aging way too fast:Before hiking up my fitness levels with Pilates, weight lifting and Kundalini Yoga tapes, my abs and arms were weak, and my back and sciatic nerves, often injured. So care was required, too.

I have been using this workout on and off for the last 12 years.Everytime I do it regularly, my body immediately tones up and I lose inches!!!I know it got a bad rep because of Cindy's bad form and because of some "risky" exercises, but if you are an experienced exerciser, you can correct these problems easily.Definitely not a workout for the weak, but its great and you can go at your own pace. The music and backgrounds are inspiring. And Cindy is not an annoying person at all, like some video instructors are.
4-0 out of 5 stars This workout WORKS!
There are some cons to this workout which I'm sure are covered in some of these reviews. She goes entirely too fast on nearly all of the exercises and tries too look a little "sexy" on some of the moves (which is annoying.)However, the pros DEFINITELY outway the cons - this is an incredible workout with moves I have never seen anywhere else...and it WORKS!I highly recommend this DVD - it has slimmed me down tremendously in just weeks and I feel much stronger. It also makes me work up a sweat, which is a bonus with a strength training DVD.Just take is slower than she does (hit pause while you finish your sets) and once you know what exercises are coming, you can work at your own pace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Long Time Fan of this workout!
Like many of you, I got this workout video on VHS when I was in college. It really is the best all around workout. The pace is a bit fast but that is solved by the pause button! Not a workout for beginners. And good form will keep you from injury.I used my VHS to death and now I'm upgrading to DVD.Yeah Cindy! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars For the Beginner
The GAIAM ball gets 5 stars, but the DVD included in this package is awful - 1 star at best.I got sucked into this purchase because I thought I was getting the all-in-one type of set up.I suppose that is partly true, but even the most extreme beginners will find the DVD useless after a few viewings. It essentially serves as an advertisement for 3 other DVDs sold by GAIAM.I don't know the price of the ball by itself, but I would recommend that purchase for sure. Then find a DVD that suits you from there. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Poor and impatient
This video has good dance routines, as well as songs. Teh dance routine for "Windy", was the best. It made me feel good and free. That's the only part I like about the video.5-0 out of 5 stars Richard's Best!
I have just ordered a new copy of this video because I wore the old one out. I own almost every Richard Simmons video available, and this is still my all time favorite.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Start
I was 260 lbs and had just begun the atkins diet last february when I bought this tape (exercise is a must for atkins). I hated to exercise, but I found this tape delightful! It is quite a taxing workout if you are out of shape or obese, but after a couple of tries it is the perfect balance of sweat and fun. Without Richard I probably would never have become the devoted exerciser I am now. After a couple of months you'll need to switch to a more difficult tape (I recommend any of kathy smith's cardio tapes and tammi lee webb's Cardio Blast), but Richard is the best way to ease into an exercise routine. ... Editorial Review

"Calorie burning cardio plus Pilates-based toning," promises this 40-minute Crunch program, which combines Pilates-influenced standing and mat exercises. In the cardio section, instructor Ellen Barrett uses Pilates terminology (e.g. "standing imprint") as she adapts Pilates moves to rather repetitious standing exercises--mostly squats and leg lift variations--which work the core muscles of the abdominals and back as well as legs, thighs, and buttocks. The moves are sometimes slow and rarely "travel," so your heart rate might not stay elevated, although your lower body and core muscles will get a good workout. The toning section consists of Pilates mat exercises which work abs, back, thighs, and buttocks. One exerciser demonstrates easier modifications. The background music is dominated by a lively drummer who keeps the workout upbeat andenthusiastic. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for Ellen, Zero stars for cameraman and idiotic drummer
I am a huge fan of Ellen Barrett's Crunch Pilates series.I have all her DVDs and use them regularly. This is the only one I have a gripe with.
5-0 out of 5 stars pilates beginner
I had never done pilates before and this workout is easy to follow but challenging enough to feel it work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good low-impact cardio workout
This is my second favorite cardio workout (after Self Slim and Sleek Fast). again, i am a big fan of Ellen. Great instructor, very down to earth and good energy. This workout really works your legs hard, and if you put alot of effort into it you will work up a sweat. It feels great combinig cardio and stretching and improving your posture while you do this routine. The ab section is very challenging for beginners like me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Received order quickly
I received my order in about three days.I didn't expect to get such quick service.
5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite!
I've been Netflixing exercise DVDs to decide which ones I want to actually buy, and I knew from the first time I watched this one that it was going to be one of the keepers. It's fun!Well, mostly -- the beginning is difficult (hmmm... how many squats/"plies" can I do in rapid succession before my thighs, hips, or knees give out on me?), but I still actually look forward to this routine. It seems to lean more toward the dance-type moves than just exercises, even more than the (admittedly few) other Pilates DVDs I've seen. Also, she doesn't make you do so many of any one given exercise that you get bored -- or she adds moves or changes the routine slightly, so you feel like you're doing a different exercise (which you kind of are). And the clincher, of course -- it's having an effect on my weight & muscle tone. The instructor is a pleasure -- very likable, and her movements are very graceful.I just wish she'd release some more DVDs!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great 35-minute workout
I'm new to Pilates. I've watched the Winsor Pilates tapes but wanted cardio in my workout. Tracey Thompson's Pilates Workout for Dummies gives me that.I've been at it for a few weeks and am starting to see a difference in weight but I really FEEL a difference. It was hard work at first but I'm getting better at it.My only complaint would be that I could use a bit more instrucction on the right positioning for each movement but that might be hard to do without slowing down the solid but comfortable pace of the workout. For example, on one of the mat exercises, I realized just a couple days ago that I didn't have my legs quite right and studying her position better made a big difference. But the workout is smooth and consistent.I would really like her to put out another one!! ...
