4-0 out of 5 stars great spy movie!
forget the tacky 1980's clothes that Diane Keaton wears, forget the fact that Diane Keaton was a mite too old to be playing the Mata Hari, this is a fantastic spy movie!5-0 out of 5 stars Diane Keaton plays a spy
Diane Keaton plays "The Little Drummer Girl", a young American actress recruited into a very complex plot to help catch an international Arab terrorist. The plan involves a lot of twists, backstabing, and double crosses, so you'll forgive me if I don't go into the details.Diane Keaton dose well as the vulnerable woman who is seduced into this rather complicated mission, where she is scared because she dosn't know everything that is going on or who she can trust.Keaton is strong and believable as a Palistine sympathizer.Yorgo Voyagis and Klaus Kinski as Keaton's contact and his suprerior (resectivly) also stand out with excellent performances.I really bought the love story between Keaton and Voyagis, which is rare; usually I hate the love stories in espionage thrillers, this one felt real.It is mostly subtle, only the violence at the end is brutal and bloody, but not too badly.I keep watching movies like this one or "Black Sunday" and I get chills at how close these movies are to (then) future events.Although that's where similerities end, "Little Drummer Girl" makes former West Germany it's target of terror.I liked this movie, it had the reality that James Bond dosen't, and heart that Tom Clancy is usually lacking.Good job all around.

1-0 out of 5 stars YIKES
I was surprised at how dopey this movie was -- I mean, right from the beginning. But then, it wasn't made yesterday -- it was made 20 years ago. I guess nowadays we demand a far more detailed setting for a flick involving Middle East intrigue. It felt so much like a standard issue TV episode from the early 80s that I kept expecting to see a commercial break. I swear I've seen episodes of Gilligan's Island that outperform this film in terms of suspense and plot development. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Bonds
This is one of Roger Moore's best Bond movies and ranks up there with his definitive THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN. It certainly has its moments. It does contain the best scene from the entire series. Bond swings from a vine and gives this terrific Tarzan yell. Only Roger Moore's Bond could pull that one off. Bond uses some cool disguises like a gorilla suit and an alligator outfit that turns into a boat. The story is a little confusing and gets jumbled up in subplots involving lookalike jewelry and smuggled nuclear devices. You don't know who is good or who is bad. It depends on your point of view.
4-0 out of 5 stars James Bond As Indiana Jones
Was there ever a James Bond like this one? Oh, there were better Bond stories, no doubt, but I do doubt there were any more entertaining than this one.

James Bond's fourth adventure takes him to the Bahamas, where a NATO warplane with a nuclear payload has disappeared into the sea. Bond (Sean Connery) travels from a tony health spa (where he tangles with a mechanized masseuse run amuck) to the casinos of Nassau and soon picks up the trail of SPECTRE's number-two man, Emilio Largo (Adolfo Celi), and his beautiful mistress, Domino (Claudine Auger), whom Bond soon seduces to his side. Equipped with more gadgets than ever, courtesy of the resourceful "Q" (Desmond Llewelyn), agent 007 escapes an ambush with a personal-size jet pack and takes to the water as he searches for the undersea plane, battles Largo's pet sharks, and finally leads the battle against Largo's scuba-equipped henchmen in a spectacular underwater climax. This thrilling Bond entry became Connery's most successful outing in the series and was remade in 1983 as Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Thunderball just isn't a good film. Period.
Any way you slice the pie, Thunderball is a lard-encrusted, margarine-filled meal of empty calories. It is a bloated mess with a pompous performance by Connery, its only saving grace a towering budget and an excellent John Barry score.
4-0 out of 5 stars Thunderball
I'm not sure how it's never happened, but I've never seen a James Bond film. I didn't see any of them. I've heard of them of course, but finally while walking in a local library...I stumbled on this one and figured why not. Well, for my first James Bond experience I was pretty satisfied. It's a decent spy film, with some good action scenes and Sean Connery's burning charisma.

Roger Moore was introduced as James Bond in this 1973 action movie featuring secret agent 007. More self-consciously suave and formal than predecessor Sean Connery, he immediately reestablished Bond as an uncomplicated and wooden fellow for the feel-good '70s. This film also marks a deviation from the more character-driven stories of the Connery years, a deliberate shift to plastic action (multiple chases, bravura stunts) that made the franchise more of a comic book or machine. If that's not depressing enough, there's even a good British director on board, Guy Hamilton (Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A really good beginning from the Moore era, underrated--
Live and Let Die is one of the most overlooked Bond films.Connery die-hards tend to abhor Mr. Moore, but his era, taken on its own merits, has quite a bit of fun to offer.Particularly for latter-day Generation X kids (born in the 70's), Roger Moore was the first Bond they got to know, and just as `legitimate' as Connery's portrayal.
1-0 out of 5 stars You're better of with the VHS than the DVD
I've been renting a lot of these Bond movies marked "special edition" and I've been running into glitches on more than half of them that make them unplayable. I think the studio ought to sever their contract with whatever burn plant they're using. Apparently the 21st century is not a good time to rent or buy a classic Bond flick on disc.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the surrealistic world of 007!
With this movie Roger Moore debuted for the pretended rescue of the previous saga. Perhaps it does not sound exaggerate to affirm that we are before the weakest Opus ofthis agent. It was certainly, a thin service to his Majesty.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bond for the Uncomplicated and Uncritical
It isn't so much that Diamonds are Forever is bad, it's just that it's clearly the worst of the Connery Bond films. It does have a few good qualities. Shirley Bassey's singing of the decvent title song being one of them, Connery's usual professionalism and talent being another, but overall it's quite silly and inconsequential. The kind of people who like this one are generally those uncomplicated sorts who get confused easily and prefer their films to be as shallow as possible, so all they have to do is sit there passively and not think or get involved in the film. The fact that this Bond is essentially the true beginning of the Roger Moore era is a big part of the problem with this film. Like I said, it's silly. The distinctly unremarkable chase scene with Bond in the cheapo looking moon buggy is an example of this, as is the abundance of bad Bond-style quips, which seemed to comprise half of Roger Moore's dialogue and takes up way too much of Connery's here. I mean, there's nothing wrong with fun, but there IS a limit, you know, especially when the "fun" is as low rent and shallow as it is here. But, like I said, there are plenty of reasons to like this Bond. The actors are all-around decent, it isn't their fault that the characters are so uninteresting. Nothing seems developed, there's no sense of spy-type espionage action here, which should be the centerpiece of every Bond film, otherwise why make one. The main Bond girl being playued by Jill St. John is another drawback. Not that there's anything wrong with her, it's just that her "type" doesn't seem right in conjunction with Bond. There's just nothing exotic about Jill St. John, as decent as she is her presence lends a sitcommy atmosphere to everything. The fact that this story mainly unfold in Vegas is another problem. Vegas is the land of chintz and cheese, shiny superficial glamor with little substance. It does lend Jill St. John's presence some meaninging, as she pretty much seems to be just the type of woman that James Bond would meet up with in Vegas. The entire film just seems way too... American. I guess you could say that Diamonds are Forever, for whatever good you may find in it, is really the nail in the coffin for the whole series. After this, it could pretty much only be a parody of its former self. There just isn't ANY room in the world for a James Bond from the 1970's onward.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Paradox in the Cinematic James Bond Lineage
When I first saw DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER I thought it was esoterically good from an eclectic viewpoint. It was the last Connery James Bond movie I had viewed. I had already watched the first 5 that he made. They were a little too serious. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER was more like Roger Moore's James Bond movies. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER was very different from the earlier ones, especially George Lazenby's stand-alone ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. George Lazenby is the definitive James Bond in my mind. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER was closer to Roger Moore's THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN and the exceptional and misunderstood A VIEW TO A KILL.
5-0 out of 5 stars Campy, But Good
"Diamonds are Forever" is the third James Bond film I've seen (the other ones being Thunderball and You Only Live Twice) and it's probably my 2nd favorite of the three. It's got one of my favorite opening sequences, great action sequences, a hot Bond girl, two odd assassins, and of course who could forget Bambi and Thumper.

5-0 out of 5 stars ASHAMED!!!
I am a little ashamed that my first review on Amazon wasn't this movie, instead I reviewed King Kong (new remake) - SHAME ON ME!!! This movie is fantastic! I remember watching it as a very young child and was mezmerized by it! It has a story, a creative concept, and a steller cast. The idea at the time was exciting because it was around the time of The Greatest American Hero and has some of the same kind of humor in it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great DVD - Disney please re-release it
This is one of those movies that would have been a massive hit if it had had a star in it. However it is still a great movie with fantastic action set pieces and pretty good jokes. If you want to ask Disney to let you know when it's re-released use the link on the Disney DVD website and then follow instructions to be 'emailed when it is available'. (Can't post the link here on Amazon as it's a no no to include web addresses so do a search for Condorman on the Disney DVD site).

Timothy Dalton made his 007 debut in the lean, mean mode ofSean Connery, doing away with the pun-filled camp of Roger Moore'sfinal outings. He establishes his persona right from the gritty pre-credits sequence, in which he hangs from a speeding truck as it barrelsdown narrow cobblestone streets, battles an assassin mano a mano, andlands in the arms of a bikinied babe. This James Bond is ruthless, tough, and romantic. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Different Side of Bond
"The Living Daylights" is actor Timothy Dalton's first outing as the British super spy. He replaced Roger Moore, whom I regretfully have never seen in a Bond film. Actually, I've only seen 3 Bond films prior to this one.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not crazy about Dalton, but he action in the movie make a difference
Where can I start? What is it with them picking out a person to play bond where they are in their 40s or almost 50s?Can't they ever get someone who is at least in their late 20s or mid 30s?At least Connery was 32 years old when he stared in Dr. No!Anyway, Dalton was a little to series and seem like he was not having fun with the role and he only sleeps with one bond girl and doesn't get any till the end of the movie?ALso, Marayam D'abo did not have any type of sex appeal! It looks like she was bored with the role! What just happened?I really think that Ian Fleming would have turned over in his grave if he seen this film! The action was ok, locations excellent, but just lacked the Ian Fleming genre!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Afghan resistance as frame!
The strong plot deals with a nasty agreement between a weapon ` mercenary and a Russian General, both of them are engaged in a dark red of corruption and illegal trades. Bond will have to face them until unmasking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent And Suspenseful Political Thriller!
An attempted assassination has gone wrong. And somewhere floating in the Mediterranean Sea with a bullet in his back is Jason Bourne (Matt Damon). This excellent suspense thriller is highly recommended. It is intelligent and believable. No suspension-of-disbelief is needed here. This first film, starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne; a highly trained and intelligent CIA field agent with a photographic memory, proficiency in many languages, and most importantly [for his specialty] a one man killing machine. Lethal in the martial arts [hand-to-hand combat] and an expert in every sort of weapon and explosive device known: There's a problem however, he has lost his memory.
2-0 out of 5 stars DIShonesty in advertising
I enjoyed both the book and the movie. The movie, fortunately, bears virtually no relationship in plotting to the book, as the book would be out-dated (or, use intelligence-community jargon, "overtaken by events").
5-0 out of 5 stars A taut, suspenseful, highly enjoyable political thriller
It's not easy to make a good suspense thriller these days.Hollywood directors seem to forget this sometimes, but lots of explosions and fight scenes really aren't enough to satisfy audiences today. You've got to tell a good story and deliver some well-developed characters if you want to make a worthwhile film,

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOND
This is the prototype of James Bond. The excitement is a treasure to behold and we get to see Sheena Easton perform the great titletune on the opening credits:-)
5-0 out of 5 stars Starting The 80s With A Bang
A Mo(o)re serious approach to Bond after Moonraker.Less gadgety too. There's one scene in Q's lab, but this time he doesn't even give anything to Bond.Bond's still making jokes of course, but he's a bit toned down. This time he's racing against the clock to find the A.T.A.C. device(wasn't this the same doodad from The Spy Who Loved Me?) in a sunken ship before some schmuck gets it first and sells it to that rotten commie, General Gogol.Bond teams up with a chick hellbent on revenge.Bond's hormones must be at an all time low coz this is probably the first woman he comes across who he doesn't try to seduce within the first five minutes of meeting her.In fact, he doesn't try at all, but still gets her in the sack!!He also turns down the advances of a figure skater, but it's insinuated that she's jailbait...and Bond knows better than to mess with jailbait! He also teams up with a smuggler played by Topol, who you might remember as Dr. Zarkoff in Flash Gordon.Bond dodges bullets, bad guys and jetlag on his journey for the A.T.A.C.Of course he manages to get another skiing scene in there as well.Julian Glover isn't that threatening of a villain, but his henchmen are cool. This one has probably the coolest pre-credit sequence of the entire Bond series with Moore's first and only encounter with arch-nemesis Blofeld.Really cool scene.Supposedly there was some controversy about a scene where Bond kills a guy in cold blood.I'm glad they decided to go with this scene, coz it's one of the coolest scenes in the film and reminds us that Bond is a badass.A very high point in Moore's run as Bond

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Bond film ever made!
For Your Eyes Only, I think, is the best Bond film of all time. It has it all- exciting and realistic action, brilliant acting, beautiful settings, superb directing and productions, excellent production design and a thrilling music score. Roger Moore gives his best and most dangerous performance as Agent OO7. The locations- Madrid, Cortina and Greece, are some of the best in a Bond film. The action is brilliant- the ski and the motorbike chase, the opening helicopter sequence and the climax scene where Bond must climb a massive mountain. The music is also brilliant. This is so much better than Moonraker, or any other Bond film. Buy this one! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Roger Moore's last outing as James Bond is evidence enough that it was time to pass the torch to another actor. Beset by crummy action (an out-of-control fire engine?) and featuring a fading Moore still trying to prop up his mannered idea of style, the film is largely interesting for Christopher Walken's quirky performance as a sort-of supervillain who wants to take out California's Silicon Valley. Grace Jones has a spookily interesting presence as a lethal associate of Walken's (and who, in the best Bond tradition, has sex with 007 before trying to kill him later), and Patrick Macnee (Steed!) has a warm if brief bit. Even directed by John Glen, who brought some crackle to the Moore years in the Bond franchise, this is a very slight effort.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Endearing Last James Bond from Roger
A VIEW TO A KILL is Roger Moore's last James Bond film and it is one of his best. It is the pinnacle of Roger Moore's irony and contradiction to the James Bond established by Sean Connery and brought to fruition by George Lazenby. Here Roger Moore gives greater depth to James Bond than we have ever seen making his performance one of the most endearing. Guy Hamilton established this approach with GOLDFINGER and honed it with his excellent THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, which was a mixture of action and absurdity at its best.

A very interesting movie about an incident which really took place. It is quite pale. though, if you know the real facts of this incident ( like the identity of the "man who never was").

I saw this movie in a movie house the year it was released in the U.S.A.As I recollect viewing the movie, it was released in the Cinemascope format; essentially a "Letter Box" format. The DVD format starts with a letter box introduction, but then switches to the "Pan and Scan" format. For myself, I find the visual impact I remember of the movie has been lost by using the Pan & Scan format.Every scene looks like it was shot using telephoto lenses, giving the visual effect of always seeing a "Close-up"; it feels like reading a book only four inches away from your eyes. The breadth of the scenes has been lost, significantly diminishing the visual parts of the film. They should re-issue it in letter box format - I would be happy to buy a letter box version. ... The 18th James Bond adventure was a runaway box-office success when released in 1995, thanks to the arrival of Pierce Brosnan as the fifth actor (following the departure of Timothy Dalton) to play the suave, danger-loving Agent 007. This James Bond is a bit more vulnerable and psychologically complex--and just a shade more politically correct--but he's still a formally attired playboy at heart, with a lovely Russian beauty (Izabella Scorupco) as his sexy ally against a cadre of renegade Russians bent on--what else?--global domination. There's also a seductive villainous with the suggestive name of Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen), and the great actress Judi Dench makes her first appearance as Bond's superior, M, who wisecracks about 007's "dinosaur" status as a globetrotting sexist. All in all, this action-packed Bond adventure provided a much-needed boost the long-running movie series, revitalizing the 007 franchise for the turn of the millennium. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Bond. James Bond.
According to my unreliable over-40 memory, this was the title of Pierce Brosnan's first and finest outing as James Bond. And, just for the record, he's my favorite Bond. Connery, believe it or not, was too "American" for me, whatever the heck that means. He's a Scot! Also, I believe this was the first Bond movie that Ian Fleming didn't write, although it was better than many he did write.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic intro for Pierce
This movie was amazing on so many levels, but the main reason I love it is because I think Trevelyan is one of the best Bond villains ever. He's not some aged megalomaniacal, larger than life villain like Dr. No, Goldfinger, Samedi or Cananga, he is an equal of Bond's, someone Bond once called his friend. And this makes him the worst kind of adversary Bond could face. He knows Bond, knows his instincts, knows all his moves, and it's fantastic to see Bond matched against a villain who could take him down with words rather than fantastic gadgetry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kick-ass James Bond film!
To be honest, this is my favorite James Bond film ever made! I have seen pretty much all of them, and I have to say, this one beats all the rest. It's classic James Bond, if not with a little more brains than the other ones. The acting is first-rate, and we have several talented actors like Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Alan Cumming, and others. The action is superbly choreographed, and Martin Campbell's directing is excellent. The quips by Bond are as good as ever, and you really enjoy watching him nail the bad guy. I am sad that thsi same director Martin Campbell is one of the people influencing all these new changes in the franchise (Daniel Criag as Bond?), but I still appreciate this film done by him. ... The film boasts the best of the Bond title songs (this one sung on a dreamy track by Nancy Sinatra), but the movie itself is one of the weaker ones of the Sean Connery phase of the 007 franchise. The story concerns an effort by the evil organization SPECTRE to start a world war, but the not-so-super villain behind the plot is the awfully civilized Donald Pleasence. The thin script is by Roald Dahl (shouldn't we have expected a better Bond nemesis from the creator of mad genius Willy Wonka?), and direction is by British veteran Lewis Gilbert (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheesy, But One of My Favorite Bond Films
With a screenplay by Roald Dahl (the author of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach), "You Only Live Twice" has got to be one of the strongest in the series. Although, I can't say I'm completely qualified to say that since I've seen only one James Bond film (Thunderball). When the movie opens, we watch as a mysterious rocketshhip seizes a spaceship which pushes the country to the brink of war. And who better to stop it than Bond...James Bond. When we see Bond (Sean Connery) for the first time in this film he is snuggling up to a Japanese girl who gets up to leave and lets in a bunch of assassins who shoot Bond. It appears Bond is dead, but there's of course no mystery there...He's not. His death was faked so he could go on his next mission without being noticed much. It appears to me though, that if you were dead and someone saw you they would be more likely to report it someone than not. Anyway, in a Bond film there's not much to give away or anything...But I'll cut to the chase. Eventually, Bond gets married to Kissy Suzuki (Mie Hama) and joins forces with some ninja warriors to infiltrate the mastermind's lair. The mastermind is Ernst Blofeld (Donald Pleasence, 'Halloween'), who is clearly the inspiration for Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers films. This guy has got to be one of the goofiest looking supervillains, I mean there's one scene where even the cat is trying to escape his grasp (look closely, it's pretty humorous). Anyway, as with most Bond films (as I said, I've only seen one but I know about them); The film is short on character development, but heavy on action scenes. Out of the two I've seen, this one is definitely more entertaining. If you're looking for a good, entertaining action film or just a good Bond film...See this, it's really good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Glorious!
This Bond movie is one of the better ones.Granted Tim Dalton looks like a weasel, but I very much enjoyed it.I think it is extremely underrated by most people. Many forget about it, but it is in my top 5 favorite 007 films of all time, and I've seen all of them.Dalton does a fabulous job portraying Bond.I also enjoyed the character of Q being as involved as he was.Very Very Good!Buy it if you can!

5-0 out of 5 stars The first Bond movie I had ever seen....
......and the Bond movie that got me interested in the Bond series. Just for that reason alone, I would give this movie 5 stars. This is a very underrated movie. If I had just strictly seen the Pierce Brosnan Bond movies like most of my friends, it is doubtful I would have become a Bond fan or at least nearly as big of a Bond fan as I am now. This movie is different. Bond shows some real emotion in this movie. Bond is upset and angry but still doesn't defeat his adversaries through just anger like a lot of other action movie characters. Bond still uses his intellect to defeat his foes. But the way Bond uses his intellect to defeat his foes is different in this movie than in the other Bond movies. Timothy Dalton is awesome. Maybe the Roger Moore fans wouldn't agree with me on that one. But Dalton is the second best Bond ever (behind the legendary Sean Connery of course). But the distance between Connery and Dalton and the rest of the guys who have played Bond is so great (I hope to see where Daniel Craig ranks in there in a couple months). And to the people who criticize this movie because of its low budget-you guys should watch the Special Features of the Licence To Kill DVD. It's very understandable why this movie had to operate on a low budget. Even with the low budget, this movie is still awesome.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Many People Remember
Timothy Dalton's James Bond career lasted all of two movies, and I, for one, think it a shame. The late 1980s Bond was different - sex scenes edited and now implied (this was due to the pending AIDS crisis), Bond more vicious, escapes even more ridiculous than before, and a not-as-handsome (but still good-looking) protagonist, Welsh actor Dalton.
