5-0 out of 5 stars School House Rocks!
At my school we perform plays and School House Rock was one of them. This year was the year we performed it and it was a success. The play even helped me. Cause some of the things they said i didnt know. This Review will help you with choosing the best school related movie to help your child with school.
5-0 out of 5 stars Now all I need is a video of "Time for Timer!"
When my son was born, and only my singing seemed to comfort him, (my singing had never comforted anyone before...) I found myself singing "The Preamble" and "Conjunction Junction." I bought all four Schoolhouse Rock videos shortly afterwards.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for ALL AGES!
As a kid, I loved the Schoolhouse Rock series and still remember the Grammar Rock songs. As a mom, I came across Schoolhouse Rock again by chance and thought I'd get the tapes for my kids who are now 2 and (nearly) 5 to enjoy when they're older.Amazingly, not only my Kindergartener but also my 2 year old prefer this tape to just about anything else right now - including the Wiggles and Blues Clues!I thought I'd bought these for the future, but they absolutely love the music and the animation and my 2-year old goes around singing snatches of "Interjections" and "Lolly Lolly Lolly get your Adverbs Here".As for my Kindergarten-age son, he has grown to enjoy it on a whole new level now that he is reading and beginning to learn grammar and punctuation concepts.Parents, it's never too soon to invest in this gem!I'd much rather have them watching this than the Rugrats or something... ... Multisyllabic words and reference volumes pique Blue's interest in this double episode focusing on vocabulary and books. But the inquisitive blue dog and her preschool audience have the effervescent Steve, a talking end table, and silent signing librarian Marlee Matlin to help them through this wordy lesson. In "Words," Steve and his pet plow through their Big Bag of Words, coming up with contrasts like Read more

Editorial Review

Tad, Leap, and Lily hop from the pages of the amazingly popular Leap Pad learning toys onto the television screen in this attention grabbing phonics program.Tad's disappointment at being unable to help his family with an important presentation at the letter factory quickly turns to excitement when he meets Professor Quigley and joins each of the letters of the alphabet in their own fun-filled classroom devoted to learning their unique sound.Tad practices karate kicks with the k's, digs the vibes with the cool cat d's drumming on the bongos, and snores peacefully with the z's while learning to recognize each letter and the sound it makes.A catchy, fun song serves as a summation of each letter's "class" and entices even the most reluctant of toddlers (and their parents) to sing each letter's sound. An interactive game follows the program and gives children a chance to practice their newfound skills of recognizing letters and their sounds.Consumers expect great educational products from LeapFrog and this DVD won't disappoint. 5-0 out of 5 stars Huge Success!
My 4 year old son has had little interest in letters or their sounds until a friend introduced us to this video. He has watched it 3 times and loves to tell me what sounds the letters make. They have a new meaning to him now.The letters are as alive to him as they are in the video. My 2 year old daughter seems interested in the video also and tries to make the sounds with her brother. Thanks Jessica for recommending it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD
I can't say enough good things about this DVD.My son started watching this at about 2 1/2 and he knew the letters and their sounds in a few weeks. Now that he is about to be 3, he still uses the sounds and the sayings from the DVD whenever he sees a particular letter.I have recommended this one to all my friends and family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still watching after over a year
My now 4 year old son and 2 1/2 daughter love this video and I even enjoy it from time to time. They sometimes actually request it over other favorites. When we are outside playing or gardening, we'll sing the song that goes along with the video for extra practice on which letters make which sounds and my son does really good.My daughter however loses interest quickly and goes off to play with something else.Leap Frog has done it again!

Building words is an exciting and empowering experience for youngchildren (and frogs) who have mastered individual letters and their sounds. When young Tad wants to nominate his Dad for a "Best Dad" contest he askshis brother Leap and sister Lily for some help filling out the application. The three young frogs go see Professor Quigley at their Father's TalkingWord Factory for a little instruction and get to watch the"Sticky-ick-o-rama" and the "Word Whammer" machines at work.Tad quicklydiscovers that vowels act as the glue that sticks letters together and thenlearns to combine individual letter sounds to make three-letter words, usecommon ending sounds to create rhyming words, and blend letter sounds tomake even longer rhyming words.Phonemic awareness, vocabulary building, and rhyming are entertaining and fun thanks to familiar Leap Padcharacters, colorful animation, and short songs. An interactive wordgame challenges young viewers to fill in the missing first letterin a variety of three-letter words. This program is a great next step forgraduates of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool in helping your little one to read...
If you're thinking of buying this DVD for your 4 or 5 year old DON'T HESITATE!!! This video will be a blessing to your little one. I'm a homeschooling mom and this video has 'turned-on' the light to pre-reading for my [...] year old. I don't like to use the TV as a 'baby sitter' but when I do, this is what I run to. My son has started reading at 4 and I give all the credit to this video! He can point to a letter and make it's sound, then does the same for another two letters and then he puts the sounds together! He can read the words NO, YES, BED, CAT, DOG, MIX, and some others as well. It's just amazing...not only that, but it keeps him entertained too and it's totally clean!!! Buy this DVD and it will help your little one overcome the challenges in pre-reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
These video's are incredible. My [...] is writing out words already... at [...]!My [...] also loves this video. We started the older one at 2 watching "Letter Factory", and as he learned the alphabet he also learned the sounds each letter made.He loves showing off to friends how much he knows.I reccomend the whole video series to anyone with kids ages 1 to 7.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Beginner Reader

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible!!!
It is not just the inane monster unintelligibly squealing like "Cousin It" nor the equally banal teaching style that make this tape offensive. When a child repeatedly lunged at a soda can with a hunting knife to help illustrate a phonics lesson we removed the tape from the VCR and disposed of it promptly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The video is addictive
When I first put in this video for my 4 year old, it seemed definitely too hard.He had enjoyed immensely the LeapFrog letter and word factory videos (a great start) and I was afraid the quick pace and multi-letter phonic sounds on this tape would bore him because he couldn't follow it. Wrong! After a couple of weeks and a basic grasp on phonics my son was pulled in by the songs and the bright colors and graphics and was reading and spelling simple words! We were able to simply pick out a word in any book and he would begin to sound out the letters, including how 'ing' sounds. He also knows the difference between vowels and consonants, and can sing "a,e,i,o,u" and "sometimes y, sometimes Y".He has a little chant that helps him remember his vowels and now I use it when I'm going over reading words with him. He's learned all of this in a matter of weeks!4 weeks ago he recognized his letters and could name them, now he's reading and spelling small words.A terrific video...stick with it and your child will be singing the songs and knowing phonics in no time! It's also helpful (my child loves it) to have a box of those wooden or magnetic letters at his disposal and he spells words on the rug.You have to get several sets, though, so they can make words (you need more than one 's', for example).

3-0 out of 5 stars not for preschoolers
i thought i'd give my preschooler a jump start on phonics but this video pack (comes with 2) is much too advanced and goes too fast for her and she has had some practice with phonics already.for preschoolers i'd recommend the rock and learn shapes & colors and save this one for k and up.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!!My 3 year old is reading.
Rock N Learn Phonics and the other titles by Rock N Learn are very good tools to help your child learn to read.My son started watching the RocknLearn Alphabet tape before he was a year old.He actually knew the alphabet and was writing them when he was 2 years old. Now, at the age of 3 he is reading.I give 80% of the credit to these videos by Rock N Learn. He loves them and will watch them all day if I allow him to.When he was 2 years old he would watch one tape 5 or more times in a row.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Learning to Read With Phonics Sight Words is Terrible!
This is the worst learning to read video I have ever seen.My little girl does not like it either and I don't blame her. It isa low budget joke oflearning video. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Learning to Read With Phonics-Sight Words
As a parent and preschool director this is the best video I have seen that teaches children their sight words. My 6-year-old daughter has learned her sight words from this video and has watched it over and over again learning something new each time. I have a M.Ed. in early childhood education and I used this video with my own child. As much as I wanted to teach her how to read she would refuse to learn from my guidance. Barbara Phipps uses phonics but teaches it in a fun and age appropriate way.She teaches the proper way to write letters and stays within the national language standards for early childhood and elementary education. Children learn at their own pace with lessons that are an average of 15-minute segments. Children stay interested and learn. I have recommended this video to many parents of children the ages of 3-6 and those who have borrowed it from me or purchased their own has had success. The setting is a bit outdated, but children who view it do not seem to notice. ... Read more
