5-0 out of 5 stars What a woman, what a video
Fatima's personality makes this video a winner. She is a precise and clear teacher but not a bore by any means. She makes it fun. She goes over the hard spots again as if she knew you personally, knew where you would get stuck. She mixes play with teaching. You leave this tape with a smile on your face and a desire to go through it again and again.

2-0 out of 5 stars YOU MUST GROOVE WITH THE GROOVALOOS
I bought this tape, watched it once and was done. I found out about The Groovaloos through search engines and THIS IS HOW YOU LEARN TO DANCE!!!! GROOVIN' WITH THE GROOVALOOS! It's hip hop, it's fun, it faces forward and back, and these guys are the best at what they do. AND the videos are a series! There's 1 & 2 and there's a 3rd one coming out sometime soon. They have an awesome website www.groovaloos.com2-0 out of 5 stars This is not a workout- or learn-to-dance video!
First, based on the editoral review, I don't think that Emily Bedard watched this video, much less danced to it.Fatima may be a creative and smart choreographer, but she is not a teacher. She didn't mirror-teach the moves, which makes them more than tricky. On top of that, the camerawork was terrible. The video gives close-ups, but only of the top-half of Fatima's body, leaving you guessing on the foot work.I got so frustrated trying to learn the last section of the video; I stopped and turned it off. This was the section that Fatima is on her `giant silver pillar'.During this section, the video is in an upward angle of Fatima with no view of her feet or what they're doing; leaving this section impossible to learn. Also, Fatima didn't count to all the moves.During the Aaliyah section, Fatima made sound effects that included `bop', `bam', and `dun'.I would not classify those as "fantastic sound effects" or good counting.I will use some of the moves in my routines, but I wouldn't dare try dancing to the whole song with only the moves I learned from this video.Especially the Aaliyah video, Fatima didn't provide half of the steps to this video.I can honestly say that I learned more from the music video itself. The moves alone aren't difficult. But with all the other factors affecting the learning curve with this video, I do not recommend it.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good video but definitely for older children
I liked this video because it tells the story of Noah but iot's definitely for older kids.I actually looked into another line called Baby Miracle for my younger one who likes it a lot better because it's just much simpler and cuter - wonderful music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended!
This video is brilliant for youngsters! The story is fun, simple and easy to understand. It delivers a good account of the Biblical version that is well presented. My little son has been fixated to the video for the past week and enjoys watching it over and over again. Well Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable animation for big and small

3-0 out of 5 stars I was not impressed.
I did ballet for the last 4 years before coming to college. I missed ballet and was looking for something that would help me keep up with it- and give me a workout as ballet does, from the comfort of my own room. I feel like this was made for those without any or much ballet experience. But at the same time, the way it is shot/edited at times makes it hard to follow. When a step is being demonstrated suddenly it goes to a black and white zoom on the instructor's upper body, when what you need to see is her feet! Furthermore I'm disappointed with the non-ballet muscle toning parts. It's nothing special, crunches and push up, which when I'm buying an excersive video I don't want the abdominal excersizes to be all crunches- I could come up with that on my own.
5-0 out of 5 stars From Taebo to Ballet......This video ROCKS
I have been doing Taebo on and off since 1999, so I am what you would consider "fit". However, I didn't like what Taebo was doing to my body - i.e. making me look like Billy Blanks....so I switched to ballet, hoping it would sculpt me to look like a woman. Well! Oddly enough, I had just bought about 4 belts when I started the ballet. Within 3 weeks, all of the belts were WAY too big, and I was suddenly able to get into pants that I haven't gotten into in years. Furthermore, my extremely stubborn little belly has virtually melted away, and my arms are getting very firm. Ballet rocks! And, of the 4 videos I bought (including both NYC Ballet videos), this one is my favorite. I like the music, which changes a lot depending on the exercise (some of it is cheery, up-tempo, and some is slower, quieter). The instruction is good, but I did ballet as a child, so a lot of it comes back to me. My mom, who has never done ballet, had a hard time following the instruction the first time. If you dance with someone else, have the person who knows what they're doing stand in front of the other person. It's easier to watch a live person do the exercises than try to follow the video, if you're an absolute beginner. All in all, a wonderful workout. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost like dance class!
This is the nearest I have come to finding anything that resembles a Ballet class. The exception is that the barre exercises are done on the floor, but following that is center work.Terrific video.Note do not expect to all ways get a cardio workout from Ballet unless you are in Swan Lake or a serious professional dancer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pure Croc' Action
If anyone finds themselves spending a nice night in over an enjoyable glass of vodka and coke with a friend and feels like something is missing, it is this DVD.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great documentary
This is one of the best documentaries that I've seen as it shows nature at it's most raw, just a continuation of life. This just shows what a documentary can be like, full of things that don't make you want to sleep after 5 minutes of viewing.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best documentaries from National Geographic EVER!
This one has always captivated me, although I find some of it quite hilarious for some reason. The story is entralling, and you get so caught up in the suspense of it all. It never fails to amaze me how I always end up enjoying this over and over again. Lots of it is very sad, however. We all just have to remember that it IS nature, and this is the way that things are supposed to happen. It's all about survival of the fittest, and this video just goes to prove it! This is most definitely a favorite for my grandfather and I, and I must recommend it to everyone! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best caving video documentary ever! Needs DVD version!
By far the most outstanding caving documentary ever filmed. The photography is the best I've ever seen from any National Geo special. The pictures and colors of various caves and their formations are shot and seen in a spectacular beauty that has to be seen to be believed. The special explorations of Lechaguea Cave in New Mexico are outstanding. Te cave is not a show cave or a tourable cave for the general public. After witnessing the camera work and explorations into this unknown (less popular) cavern, I was estatic that one HUGE cavern system could have such beauty and abundance of formations. The depth in which the director/producers took into the extensiveness of filming and story telling of caves throughout the world is outstanding alone. From the beginning of caving to the research involed, and the history of caving, and to the amazing "connection" story of how Mammoth Cave became the world's lagest cavern system by cavers connecting (at the time) two seperate cave systems. This is by far the best of any National Geo sspecials ever produced and THIS MUST GET ON DVD!!!It must get om DVD just for the sheer beauty filmed in this documentary. This is a film that deserves the best attention to transfer to dvd if they ever do. In a High Definition quality or seen in Hi-Def would be ideal. Only then would this do the film makers justice. The video quality on VHS is fine yet it is still just seen on a VHS film element that desperatly needs to be digitally reproduced onto dvd.I am waiting patiently for National Geo to get this on DVD and do it right in all it's splendor. For now, the price on VHS is worth it just to see this outstanding (if not the very best ever) caving documentary.Imax films a few years back did a caving movie called "Journey To Amazing Caves" and it totally fails in comparrision to this outstanding film.Although Imax's "Journey Through Amazing Caves" was a horrible production (not really much to do about caves at all, very dissapointing), the picture quality put into the Imax DVD was done excellent. That is what National Geo needs to do with this 1992 documentary.Either way buy this just to see it. Especailly if your a caver or a fan of caving doucmentries where your looking for suspence excitment, and through information. This has more than you could ever want in a caving film. At an hour long it covers much ground on the subject. So good it left me wanting more. Don't miss it!! ... Read more

Volcanologist Maurice Krafft believed that "people are much more curious about hell than about paradise." Krafft and his wife Katia certainly were: the French scientists shared a lifelong fascination with volcanoes that took them all over the world to film eruptions until a hot ash flow in Japan claimed their lives in 1991. Editorial Review

Fortunately, it is illegal in most places to hunt and capture gorillas, but it is difficult to enforce the laws. Still, there are hundreds of gorillas being cared for by humans. This video, released in 1991, explores the status of gorillas in captivity. Rapunzel is brought to the Los Angeles Zoo to mate with a dominant silverback. In San Diego a concrete jungle is demolished in 1989 to make a new, more natural habitat for the gorillas. In Atlanta a gorilla named Willie B. takes his first walk outside in 27 years. In a Tacoma, Washington, shopping mall Ivan remains in solitary confinement as the loneliest gorilla in the world. In Columbus, Ohio, a zookeeper is reunited with his favorite pal, Suzie, after being separated for years. She hugs him through the gate. In Howletts, England, the largest colony of urban gorillas thrives under the care of an eccentric millionaire. He longs to put them back in the wild but worries that it's not safe enough yet. This video, though in need of an update, is an important counterpart to learning about primates in the wild and suggests we will "conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught." 5-0 out of 5 stars "We conserve only what we love. We love only what we understand."
Included in this fascinating (but dated) video is the remarkable newsfilm which changed much of the world's thinking about gorillas twenty years ago.A young boy falls into a gorilla pit at the London Zoo, where he lies unconscious as a 450-lb. silverback gorilla slowly approaches him.As stunned onlookers look on, the gorilla sits down beside him, and gently touches him with his finger, and when the child starts to cry, the gorilla returns to his enclosure.Widely distributed on news channels, the film shows a gentle creature concerned about an injured child, not a King Kong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Try before you buy
The wide range of reviews of this video made me decide to check it out from my local library and try it before I buy it. I was happy to find that both my baby and I love it. My baby actually watches it - which surprized me, since he usually only watches videos that have lots of babies and children in them (e.g., the "Signing Time" videos are a favorite). He also dances to the music. As for me, I'm thrilled with the musical selections. Most of the other baby videos I've watched seem to recycle the same classical pieces, but this one has refreshingly different music - and very good choices at that. Some reviewers have complained about the sound quality, but I found nothing wrong with the quality of the video I watched.5-0 out of 5 stars children's video enthusiast
This is a great video! We have all the Baby Einstein's, Baby's First Impressions, Baby Bumblebees. My 4 yr. old still loves this one and will run in the room and dance when I play it for my 11 month old.The music is very nice. The Baby Bumblebee vocublary videos are great for learning new words with real life objects, not the cartoon ones. Both girls also love the Big Comfy Couch videos since they were five months old.I like those too because they teach a lesson in a fun way.Check out the scholastic video collection where popular books are made into cartoons. They are cute and reinforce the books.

The first hint that this isn't your normal, staid Spanish review courseis the subtitle that's flashed across the screen: the "Salsa-riffic World ofSpanish." The Standard Deviants, a cast of ebullient young performers whobelieve no joke is too bad as long as its memorable, bring their talents to acourse in introductory Spanish in this video. Lots of flashy graphics keepthings lively, but the course material itself is rock solid--it's been approvedby an academic panel. Following some basic information on where Spanish isspoken, the real lessons begin with instruction on pronunciation and the Spanishalphabet (which, of course, uses some typographical symbols not used inEnglish). A bit of vocabulary is imparted as the pronunciation lessons progress, and after some pointers on capitalization, simple lessons in practicalconversation begin. The video proceeds to the inescapable bane of many languagestudents, conjugating verbs. While this production won't be a substitute for anactual course in Spanish (and the cast specifically points out that it doesn'tintend to be), the presentation is consistently energetic, with the lessons easyto remember. Someone who is interested in learning (or reviewing) basic materialwill no doubt gain from watching it. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Same Program Different Titles
Normally I would have given a 5 star rating BUT I first bought Advanced Spanish - Beyond the Basics. I liked it so much I bought Advanced Spanish - Verbs, Spanish 1&2 and Habla Espaol?. My tape of Advanced Spanish - Verbs is IDENTICAL to Advanced Spanish - Beyong the Basics. In fact it had that as the title for the video when you view the tape. The DVD of Habla Espaol? is IDENTICAL to the Spanish 1 tape except for some quizzes. I wrote the company with this complaint and got no answer. If you go to their site you will find about 20 Advanced Spanish DVDs that have descriptions that all appear to be the same DVD with different titles. I would definitely not buy Spanish 1. Instead buy the Habla Espaol? DVD. If you already have Spanish 1, you won't get much from this DVD. Other than this, I would be very careful buying from this company. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars big problem
I have mixed feelings about this video. It IS funny and entertaining. However, the professor uses humor at the expense of truth. There are 26 "sounds" and 3 "vowels" in English? Baloney. Also, some of his "history" gets a prize for humor and a zero for truth. I showed this in an upper division course on Germanic phonetics and history and spent the rest of the hour correcting the information my students had just heard. I'd have to categorize "A Light History of the English Language" as academic infotainment. It's the "National Enquirer" of scholarship.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong, wrong, wrong.
This video is "light," indeed--light on correct information. I purchased this video for the History of the English Language course I was teaching, thinking it might be a useful teaching tool. Unfortunately, it proved useful only in that I was able to have students point out the fallacious statements. For instance, Prof. Engel says that there are only twenty-six sounds in English, confusing letters and phonemes, it seems. One need only consider the vowels to see that this statement is erroneous. Then there are palatal fricatives and affricates and the voiced and voiceless interdentals. This purely wrong statement of English sounds is but one of the many errors with which this video is filled! If the review system would allow, I would give this lecture a 0 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I, myself, am a junior at a high school in Florida. Today, we watched this video - and I cannot tell you how many people in my class enjoyed the video. I went around telling all my friends about how the English lanuage was formed by anglo-saxon german. Explaining to them was awesome, I felt like I really learned something. I read some of the reviews of his lectures before and they talked about his voice not being great, and what not. I thought his presence was excellent, he communicated to us on a personal level instead of going to another "boring" lecture, this one made me really get into it. Since I'm a student, isn't my opinion the one that matters? If you're a teacher contemplating whether or not to show this to your class, I really encourage it - it was awesome! I guess it made enough of an impact for me to come to this website. I hope to see him in person some day, he seems like a very intelligent man! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars priceless
I have owned this video for a while now, and I feel it is absolutely priceless. I have watched it many times and still do. As you progress as a golfer you will pick up more things from the video that you did not feel before. Just the slow motion of Jack Nicklaus not far from his prime make the video worth it. The slow motion segments are priceless. You can learn more from just watching him over and over and absorbing it, than you could from a thousand books. Jack, would you remaster it and put it on DVD? Please? I would be the first to buy it and add it to my collection and continue to watch it!!!

Editorial Review

Bestselling author JulieMorgenstern has a fresh perspective on why clutter and disorganization existand offers specific instructions on how to permanently organize your house oroffice in this fast-paced world. Morgenstern begins by defining "organized,"asserting that it is not necessarily neatness, but the "process by which wecreate environments that allow us to live, work, and relax exactly as we wantto." Without a compelling reason or goal for achieving organization, shedeclares, failure is imminent. Once a personal goal is established, Morgensternoutlines three basic steps: analyze, strategize, and attack. The time andthought devoted to the first two steps are crucial to the success of the finalstep, and the lack of forethought is often why people fail repeatedly in theirattempts at organization. Morgenstern suggests some very specific questions forcreating a successful, personalized scheme and offers the kindergarten classroomas an example of simple and effective organization. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Info was great...we would like to have seen more examples of hands on organization.Overall, this has been one of the best yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars An answer to prayer
I have "packrat syndrome". My landlord is threatening eviction. I feel so invalidated by everyone who belittles me and can't understand how vital I feel things are. And when people "Help" me out by throwing my things away I feel violated.5-0 out of 5 stars Video is a great format for the organization-challenged!
I bought the book several months ago, flipped through it, and had been meaning to read it since then. My house is so cluttered that I felt I didn't have time to read it, and half the time, I couldn't even find the book. When I saw that Julie had published a video version of her book, I thought that I could set aside that much time one afternoon to watch the video. It actually took 3 segments of time to watch it due to two toddlers and my husband, but I watched it and was inspired. I think I learned everything I need to from the video, although the book includes more details. I think it's easier to get started just with the basics than to be overwhelmed with information, anyway. I actually learned information that I can use this time, and what's more, I'm putting it to use! I highly recommend this video. Also, Julie Morgenstern is really likeable, so it's fun and inspiring to see her on video. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Spellbinding Documentary on Bali
My favorite of all the National Geographic documentaries, Bali: Masterpiece of the Gods combines fantastic video footage of Balinese life and culture with a flowing, almost meditative musical score that artfully incorporates traditional Balinese Gamelan, and a lyrical narrative that makes for a most enjoyable, informative and memorable viewing. The documentary introduces Bali by recounting the mythological legend of Bali's creation and its historical past, and then works its way through a glimpse into the Balinese cycle of life: an Agama Hindu priest performing the christening of a baby; the daily rituals of village life; a bride-to-be helping her future in-law prepare colorful temple offerings, the importance and integration of art in Balinese life, a temple festival that surreally entwines religious devotion with the supernatural, the union of a young couple in marriage, and the familial obligation of the cremation ritual for the departed. The beauty of Bali is captured in scenes of terraced rice paddies, ancient temples amid lush mountains, a scenic ocean sunset, intricate paintings and woodcarvings, and the face of a young girl transformed into a court princess for a classical dance performance. If you are intrigued by the cultures of Southeast Asia, this enchanting video is well worth the investment; I will definitely place Bali high on the list of places to visit during future trips to Asia. ...
