2-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT for beginners
I have had this video for years. I only did it for six months. The moves are hard to learn, and if you don't have the proper shoes and the proper floor to practice on, you WILL injure yourself! I got pretty good at the moves but the stomping resulted in Achilles' tendonitis for me, which I still suffer from. If you truly want to learn Irish dancing, take a class from an instructor in a proper setting. Don't risk injury with this video.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great video for Irish dancers
I wouldn't recommend this video if you've never taken Irish dance before as it does move quite fast. But if you've taken it before, you shouldn't have any problem following along. It's fun!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good For Those Who Know Basic Irish Dance Already
I was looking forward to this video. Knowing nothing of how to Irish Dance (except for my free imitations done watching others), I bought this video thinking I might learn how to do some basic steps. Unfortunately, this is not a good video to learn by. Learning videos need a little bit of a boring quality, that is, watching from one camera angle one full practice step done slowly to rythm. But we never see the beginning steps done simply to rythm by one person; we jump from Mr. Dunne to the right, to the left, full body, just the feet, the others, which makes all of this more confusing. It seems like the director did not know if he was going to teach or entertain. However, if you are already an intermediate to professional Irish dancer already, I recommend this video. Or, if you want to enjoy watching how Irish dance is learned by professional dancers, but have no intention to get out of the sofa and try it, I recommend it.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Instant Wellness
If you are a fan of Dr. Weil, or at least open to alternative ideas about our healing system, you may find this video helpful and enjoyable as the philosophical underpinnings for his later works "8 Weeks to Optimum Health" and "Eating for Optimum Health."If you are predisposed to agree with his common-sense approach to combining Traditional Western Medicine and Alternative Therapies, this is probably superior to reading the book.Wait. Stay with me on this. The book naturally offers much greater detail and more anecdotal evidence. But there is something in his calm, assured yet compassionate presentation of this abridged version that enhances its message and lends it additional credibility.5-0 out of 5 stars very entertaining, informative,& enlightening!!
I purchased Dr. Weil's 8-weeks to optimal health one year ago,& have been on his program since.just this week I got the spontaneous healing video, what a treat!!from the start, when he enters the room, the feeling ofattaining information never before heard,is exciting,& full of hope& trust.when Dr. Weil is telling us to eat garlic,he breaks out inunguarded laughter & joy,he's one of us!!when he asks us all to take adeep breath "together" I really felt like I was in that room too!this is a very frank & fair 72 minutes.when I say fair,I mean he'seasier on the medical profession than I expected.all in all,I cant wait tosee more of his presentations!THANKS,DR.WEIL 8/1/99 ! -jim- TerreHaute,Indiana ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What a throwback...
I have always loved FREE TO BE YOU AND ME, but now I can also watch the DVD with my daughter. It's so great to be able to share with her the stories and the songs that I grew up with...She loves the babies (Mel Brooks and Marlo Thomas) the most!

2-0 out of 5 stars Free to Be You and Me - As Long As You Are Like Me
I rented this on a whim and it brought back a lot of memories from my 1970s days in elementary school. This video made its rounds in the public schools. The songs are catchy and the film quality is good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Endorsed by Head Coach of the Milwaukee Wave, Keith Tozer
Being involved in soccer for more than 25 years, I have found the "Stinky Shoe & Coach LaRoo" video to be a wonderful fun and educational teaching tool for families and children who are just beginning their soccer careers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your kids will love it, it will help parents too.
This summer my kids got involved in a soccer league.I grew up play baseball & football, when it came time for soccer I did not even know how many players there were per team. The instruction in this video taught my children and my wife & I how many player, the size of the field and enough basic skill to keep my kids busy all summer. My kids enjoyed Stinky Shoe and Coach Laroo and dance to the music everytime we put it on.I purchased the Baseball video today and cannot wait to see what it is all about.5-0 out of 5 stars Soccer Mom

5-0 out of 5 stars superb DVD
I love this series and plan to buy more.It is well done. The signs are separated so one can watch just one in a sitting, or watch the whole dvd.The word is first shown, then a mom shows the sign, then kids demonstrate (including some use of the actual object, if appropriate). My child and I have both picked up signs quickly from this DVD.

4-0 out of 5 stars well made
the dvd is very well made. it catches me totally and music is great. it is almost perfect, exept my boy,16 months, don't buy it. that's why it gave 4 star.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Hesitate...Buy The Entire Series
My youngest child has a tracheostomy and is unable to speak. We tried speech therapy but found ourselves slamming our heads into the wall. I found this series through an amazon search for sign language and it is the best investment I have ever made. At 1.5 years of age my son began signing along with the first videos. Now at 2.5 he has a vocabulary of over 300 signs and every one is thanks to these videos. The entire series is entertaining, cute, and easy to learn. The songs are fantastic and my 5 and 6 year olds are just as excited about putting them in the dvd player as my little one! Thanks to the entire production team at Two Little Hands. Broadway dancers and ballroom champions Vicki Regan and Ron De Vito make this popular, graceful ballroom dance accessible to even the two-left-feet among us in this one-hour, gently paced, introductory video. "The Foxtrot is really just walking in time with the music," says Regan, whose skillful teaching, step-by-step pacing, and warm personality make beginners feel at ease and competent. Starting with a simple walk to the slow-slow-quick-quick rhythm, the instructors gradually and systematically introduce the basic forward-and-backward walk, movement around the floor, and leading technique--and within minutes, you're dancing. Next the instructors teach the rock turn, promenade walk, and underarm turn. After each section, you practice with the instructors to music. This is an excellent beginning video for learning the foxtrot. The sequencing, pacing, instruction, and production are all first-rate. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Vicki Regan teaches beginning foxtrot
This production, like all of Ms. Regan's instructional series with Ron De Vito, is an excellent introduction, at the beginner's level, to the ballroom dance, the foxtrot. The repetition of the steps is adequate, without being overbearing or irritating.5-0 out of 5 stars You Can Dance Foxtrot
You Can Dance Foxtrot by Vicki Regan is an excellent video for thebeginner with little or no previous dance experience. She and her partnerRon De Vito begin by walking in time to a basic foxtrot rhythm and in 45minutes systematically build on this to teach the basic walk (forward andback), the rock turn, the promenade and the promenade with turn.Inaddition they show ways to combine these four steps so that you can feelcomfortable improvising on the dance floor. 2-0 out of 5 stars AnOKDVD. There are much better options now...
Generally speaking, This DVD is OK. I used it with my oldest child...but not too much because it did not really manage to keep her engaged; and to be honest, I don't think that repetition of vocabulary words is the best way to learn a language. After all, that is not the way we learn to speak. Also, the music is not great...and the speaker, even if she has a good accent, still is not native...
4-0 out of 5 stars Music too loud!
Overall is a good teaching tool, if a bit boring. It took several tries to finally get my 2 year old son to look at it for more than 5 minutes. The slow pace seems geared for babies only, as the title suggest.
1-0 out of 5 stars BORING- NEEDS EXCITEMENT!!
This DVD was very long and quite monotone throughout. It did not create an excitement for learning another language. My children need a faster paced fun introduction to the language and this was not it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars major recomendation for this Entire video collection.
my daughter will soon be four and started watching these videos at 1yr. her vocabulary is quite large now. the videos are fun for children since they are full of kids of all ages.i would give this more stars if i could.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great
My 22 month old loves this tape but he still has not spoken his first words. The music is relaxing and the pictures are intriguing. I would recommend it but do not count on it helping your child speak if he or she has speech delays.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bee Smart Baby, Vocabulary Builder 1 & 2
These are wonderful videos for babies ages 6 months or so, to about 2 or 3.Children I babysit for have them; and they are mesmorized by the soft, kind voice of the narrator, and the life-like pictures shown in the video. The neat thing about these videos is the simplicity of them, and the repetition that keeps the babies interested. They'll show, for example, "feet"---and slowly, but interestingly, show many different sizes and colors of feet, then, later in the video, you'll see the feet again. The narrator says the name of the object being shown, once when the object is first shown, then again, later on in the video.Kids don't even know they're learning!Excellent videos! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent...
Incredible footage and narration. Some sequences are almost "trippy" and I am waiting for the DVD release (hopefully) to get another copy!5-0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece of documentary
"The Invisible World" is the "Citizen Kane" of the National Geographic Specials. It's an outstanding overview of the subject at the heart of National Geographic -- photography. The images created through specialized cameras, such as infrared, photomicrography, electrophotography, high speed and more, truly do reveal the unseen realms in our world. Although I would credit Alexander Scourby as NG's best narrator ("The Sharks," "The Superliners"), Richard Basehart's reading of the flawless script is captivating. William Goldstein's feature film-quality music score adds the high gloss varnish to what might otherwise be a fairly routine docucmentary. The musicsparkles and punctuates each scene with a whole new level of interest. If this were a feature film, I'd buy the soundtrack album in a heartbeat. If you only have one National Geographic Special in your library, one that can be enjoyed by just about anyone at any age, "The Invisible World" is the one.

Few biological wonders can rival those in Australia's Great Barrier Reef for spectacular beauty, and few filmmakers can rival National Geographic's lush photography. The giant colonial organism, though endangered by pollution and other threats, still spawns once each year in a gorgeous frenzy of new growth. It's a fertile time for all of the creatures dwelling in and around the reef structure, and the National Geographic cameras capture barracuda, bright damselfish, giant marine worms, and many other lovely and fascinating neighbors. Neville Copland's gentle music complements the serene photography, and the narration, while interesting, doesn't distract the viewer from the stunning delights on the screen. 4-0 out of 5 stars This is for kids--adults beware!
Our 2 1/2 year old has watched this many times and loves it...but Dad has to find something else to do now when its on.I wish that it didn't have the stupid "inserts" which try and give it a story or narrative quality.Helicopters, that's what we want! There are a good variety of Helicopters on the video, which makes it worth owning. There are Coast-Guard, Marine & LA Police Department helicopters. My son does seem to have learned a lot.He has a toy helicopter and he uses the string and hook on it to rescue people, like on the video. But the "explanations" on the video are simplistic in the extreme. They probably tried to accomplish too many things on this one video. My son would give it 4 stars at least, so that's what I give it.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's great for what it is
It's not a fancy hollywood feature film. It's just a short tale about what a young man learns about life from a horrible experience when framed for murder.Harold teaches us through his experience and turn-around that we are influenced by the people we choose to hang around and that under any circumstances, we are respnsible for for ourselves as human beings if our life is to have meaning.A good movie for a classroom or a family to watch together.

1-0 out of 5 stars It was not what we thought it would be.
We thought this book would deal with being pardoned by the law and the greater one being pardoned by God through faith in the Lord JesusChrist.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great moral lesson for teens and parents.
I thought this movie was a great moral lesson for teens. I also think its great for teens and parents to watch together. I will watch this with my boys as they get older. Even our daughters can benefit from these life lessons.

5-0 out of 5 stars still the best dvd
I bought the Little Laureate's for the Love of Art in February this year after reading all the reviews and I'm glad that I did. This is still the only dvd that can capture my 20-month-old daugther; she has been watching since she was eleven-month old and she is still watching today. The production is more tasteful and sophisticated than Baby Einstein.None of the other DVDs---Baby Einstein, Baby Prodigy or Brain Baby could keep her attention, not even five minutes; I'm glad that I didn't spend $$$ to purchase the Einstein DVD series because the production is so cheesy and cheap.I borrowed the other Litle Laureate's for the Love of World Travel from a local library but my daughter didn't like it as much. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST video out there!!!!
I LOVE this video. My 6 month old loves it as well! She will sit and watch the entire 30 minutes without a peep. The music is fantastic and the artwork is amazing.Unlike other videos, the music isn't annoying to me.I could listen to the music over and over (which we do) while getting things done around the house while she is watching the beautiful artwork. The fact that the music and artwork presentation is choreographed so that the art hits the beats in the music is great!
4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not Baby Einstein
Don't get me wrong; this video is good! The music is great, the artwork is lovely, and parents can enjoy it even though it's been played 100 times. However, the artwork/music presentation is like a piece of choreography that was overworked to hit everything in the music and ended up being less-than-pleasing.And then the makers slacked on editing the scenes/sounds of children talking and doing art. Also, each peice of artwork shown includes print of the title and artist on the lower corner ON the artwork (not off to the side), interrupting the enjoyment of the art.The print is very small and hard to read -- really distracting.Since the artists and titles should be shown somewhere, why not put that information at the end? This video tries but isn't quite the standard of Baby VanGogh. ... Editorial Review

Infused with a healthy awe of nature's handiwork, this film is a crash course in physiology. In just 60 minutes the video travels through every inch of the human body, highlighting the various engineering feats accomplished in the course of everyday activity. Tiny cameras expose the forest of taste buds on the tip of a tongue, the cavernous pores in a fingertip, and the eerie clenching action of vocal chords. While the live-action scenes are a bit dated, the visual effects created by x-rays, microscopes, and time-lapse photography are fascinating. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Good video but very outdated
I remember liking this video as a child so I was anxious to see it again. It's funny how times change. The old Geographic with their big booming narrator voice and documentary scenes that look like they were staged for the camera just don't do it for me anymore. Some of the scenes are still touching but I would reccomend keeping your memories intact and avoid watching this. It's just not worth your time and any expense.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just a documentary, but a work of art
I'll start off by saying that the classic National Geographic documentaries played a vital part in my childhood.I rented them from the local video store so many times that the employees there called me"the National Geographic kid."CREATURES OF THE NAMIB DESERT,THE SHARKS, AFRICAN WILDLIFE--these were to me what SNOW WHITE and THELITTLE MERMAID were to other kids. What can I say?I was (and still am) atotal egghead.(I'll be 21 next month.)Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars self-conscious beginners rejoice
Although I work out regularly with step and aerobic dance, social dance is a new beast to me. My husband and I watched this video separately and then got together to practice the steps. Cal is very supportive and friendly; he assumes you know nothing about dance and really does teach you the basics, which I would have trouble learning in a class full of other folks. Yes, folks, it's just a start, but it's a great way for rank beginners to get their feet moving. We're purchasing more of the series and recommend this video for those of you who want to dance at the weddings instead of sitting on the sidelines watching.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
My husband and I want to learn to dance so we bought this video. It was great for someone like us who have little dance experience and who want to learn the basic steps. It didn't provide us with much we could use immediately on the dance floor but it did provide a base for us to start from. That is very important. Some of the videos and classes assume you know more than you do.We were very impressed and plan to buy more of his videos.

4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD STUFF
I would not recommend this video for people who pick moves up quickly because they are very basic but for someone like me who lacks any dancing ability, it has helped immensely. For those who have no coordination and would like some these videos are a good plac to start!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

This beautiful but tragic video offers a thorough overview of the delicate and varied ecosystems found on the Hawaiian Islands. More than almost anywhere else in the world, these islands had been untouched and have existed in "splendid isolation." But since humankind's arrival, nearly 70 percent of Hawaii's native species have disappeared. The non-native feral pig, for instance, is the worst scourge; this pig has no natural predators and has invaded every island. Neither sugar cane nor pineapples are native. Birds, fish, insects, and turtles all play important roles in species' disappearance. Perhaps the most powerful image of the documentary is the sight of humans rappelling down the cliffs of Molokai to hand pollinate endangered flowers, the perfect symbol for how precariously close we have pushed nature to its own demise. Now humans must intervene to rescue what we have nearly destroyed. Read more
