5-0 out of 5 stars Not full of fluff..
At first, I was a little disappointed in the quality of the video. It did seem to be a home video, but I think that added to it's charm.Rich Grogan seems to be just like some of the father's I know around town, making silly mistakes in his routine. He's real.I found the workout to be easy enough for my 5 year old daughter to follow and challenging enough for me to get a good workout.I have never been able to follow a video workout before. This was great and enjoyable. Both my daughters and I enjoy the workout and get more out of it each time we do it AND it doesn't require a lot of space.I like it's simplicity.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for gradeschools - The Best

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Program for Kids
My kids & I absolutely LOVE this program. The kids on this program are having fun, because it is a fun workout, and my kids & I enjoy watching these happy little faces exercise. Kids are motivated by other kids having fun, and the joyful atmosphere that Rich Grogan instills helps make this video my families personal favorite. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars favorite
this was the first sesame street video i bought for my 18month old, and she is totally in love with it. her favorite is "who are the insects in your neighborhood" and she now buzzes like a bee every time she sees one. she's never been into the "new" sesame street, so for those who like classic skits/videos, this video has it. and the short length of time of the video is perfect.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great video...
Especially if you love 'Gladys The Cow' (one of my favourite muppets). She was hilarious on this video. The problem was that there weren't enough Muppet songs. there was some, but the others just showed real animals. they could have shown some more Gladys songs or maybe even some songs Kermit The Frog or that Animal Orchestra featuring Placido Flamingo and Seiji Ozawa

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Sesame Street animal numbers
This is my very, very favorite Sesame Street video, because it contains the clips I love best; the live-animal clips with goofy songs like "I'm a working dog," "I'm an aardvark," "Which came first, the chicken or the egg," and "I love being a pig." It also includes muppet classics like "We are all earthlings," and, my personal favorite, "Baa Baa Bamba." It's a half hour of shoe-tapping, hand-clapping fun - my toddler and I both love it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Chemistry prereq for RN program.
You don't need to be a kid to watch this video. I'm 30 and going back to school to be an RN. I can't understand my professor to "save my life" but this video helped me very much! The Deviants act kind of cheesy but this video really gives a different perspective on how to understand Chemistry. It's worth a watch for sure. If you're buying it used, be sure to ask the seller if the insert is included. They refer to it several times and my seller did not include it in mine. Happy studying!

4-0 out of 5 stars Attend Class Every Day, Read Your Chem Book Ahead of Time...
... and then, and only then, should you give Standard Deviant's Chemistry a look. First, the topics and the way they are covered is pretty basic. Second, not much is said in regards to the most common mistakes that chem students make (not reffering to Kelvin temp. in terms of degrees and Sig. Figs. are mentioned.) Third, the Deviants are somewhat distracting but hilarious nonetheless. But overall, these are excellent review and supplemental aids for they help impress upon you what is critical, but only slightly effective on their own and by themselves. Good luck with Chemistry!

5-0 out of 5 stars FUNNY!Explains the subject matter very well.
Makes chemistry very entertaining.Remember, sigma does not equal beer! ... Read more

Editorial Review

The Baby Einstein Company's "video board books" were designed as music-focused developmental tools to stimulate babies' brains (prompted by researchproving that exposure to classical melodies can improve verbal ability, spatialintelligence, creativity, and memory in youngsters). Now the company isexpanding into other art forms, including color and art. The idea remains thesame--taking bold, beautiful objects (toys, puppets, nature scenes) and settingthem to fun renditions of classical music (their recordings are easily the bestin the crowded field of child development). A new puppet--Vincent Van Goat--introduces the six primary colors and associates them with Van Gogh'spaintings--"The Starry Night" for blue, "Wheat Fields with Reaper" for yellow. The only misstep is the poetry written and read by creator Julie Aigner-Clark, which is strongly reminiscent of Dr. Seuss's Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My two month old loves it!
I can't believe he likes these being so young, but he does. At two months old, he loves the different colors and stares at the TV the whole time. This one is really good. I sit with him and guide him a little, but he seems to respond to the colors and the music.
5-0 out of 5 stars Baby Einstein does it again!
We have quite the collection of Baby Einstein DVD's and this one does not disappoint. It has lots of puppets, which my 16 month LOVES.The only downfall is it is very short. . . .only about 25 minutes of actual video time. The newer Baby Einstein's are very disappointing. . . mostly animation which does not hold my little boy's attention.Van Gogh though has the original charm of the first Baby Einstein's.A great addition to your DVD collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining baby video
My daughter has been watching this one since she was 4 months old and still loves it at 10 months. She loves the puppets and toys.My only issue with it is the volume. For each color, there is a vignette featuring a puppet with a voice-over of a poem about the color. It is impossible to hear the poem unless you really crank the volume up.All other sounds (background, sound effects, and music) are normal. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My son learned Letters, Numbers and Shapes in three weeks!
A woman in my mom's group told me that her 18 month daughter learned all of her letters by watching Meet the Letters for 2 weeks. I decided to give it a try with my 20 month old son. I bought all three Preschool Prep Series DVDs; Meet the Letters, Meet the Numbers and Meet the Shapes. Not only did my son love them but in less than 3 weeks he had mastered upper- and lower-case letters, numbers 1-10 and 8 shapes. He learned more from 3 weeks watching these DVDs than many kids learn in 3 years of preschool. I tell everyone about these amazing videos. He also loves the Lift the Flap books in the car and has become obsessed with naming letters everywhere we go. I couldn't be more pleased with this series.
5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably educational!
I have 18 month twins.I read a review about Meet the Letters where the reviewer had shown the video to a preschool class for a couple of weeks and said that she said that the kids loved it and wanted to watch the video over and over. She said that the kids in the class had amazing success learning letters. I thought I would put it to the test with my twins. In two weeks they both knew all of their letters (both upper and lowercase).I have since bought them Meet the Numbers and Meet the Shapes and have had the same kind of success. It is as if my twins achieved in about a month what most kids take 2 or three years of preschool to learn.I think these videos should be required curriculum for all preschools!

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!
My 2 year old son got "Meet the Letters" for his birthday and he can't get enough of it.The first couple of times he watched it, he was almost jumping out of his seat to see what each letter was going to do.After only a few viewings he started yelling out each letter BEFORE the voice on the video said it.He knew every letter in about a week (both upper and lowercase).I watched it with him the first time and he immediately asked for it again.Since then he has watched it many times and now where ever we go, he points to letters and says their names.I like the fact that he is shown both upper and lowercase letters and that the only thing said is the name of each letter as it appears. Each letter starts in black and white, becomes colorful, then becomes a character. The process then reverses itself. Each scene ends with a black letter to reinforce the letter shape and name.It is suggested that you choose a different segment of the alphabet from the menu selections each time you watch, but he wants to watch the whole thing from beginning to end. He LOVES the part of the video where the letters all sing the alphabet song.I kept going back and playing it for him so that he could sing and dance, until I noticed that the song is one of the menu selections (and it loops)! This is the only gift that I will be giving for birthdays this year.I will feel great knowing how entertaining and highly educational it is! ... Editorial Review

This total immersion approach to language means that no English isspoken on this video, and only the occasional sentence is translated onscreen. Instead, viewers are treated to five sections of objects, concepts, or actions while a woman identifies them in Spanish. The first section shows a boy (niño), various people, and animals eating (comer) and an apple (manzana) and then puts it all together (El niño come la manzana!). Thesame method is used for numbers, colors, manners, and phrases and then another section of familiar words and phrases. The 40-minute video comes with an introduction and the lessons spelled out in a fold-out cardboard display attached to the video box. This is a serious effort meant to teach children a second language while they are still quite young. But that won't stop children from enjoying the brightly colored video of animals, toys, and a multiracial cast of kids. Ages 1-5. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it
My kids, who are 4 and 2 1/2, love these Bilingual baby videos. They are always asking me to watch them.I know that they are learning from them since they use the words daily, especially the colors and numbers.I definately recommend them.

3-0 out of 5 stars not very interesting
This is an OK video, but not worth all the high marks it has earned. It has one monotone womans voice saying spanish words for actions shown on the screen. There really isn't much action or "feeling" in the voice. Some of the images are confusing It reminds me of my adult Spanish learning tapes which are very boring. MY 2 year old loves videos but she doesn't seem overly impressed with this one. She does perk up at some of the images (ballons, dog, kittens, exc..) but overall there isn't much to keep her attention.

4-0 out of 5 stars same as Brainy Baby Spanish DVD

5-0 out of 5 stars Best 1st video
I purchased this video in 1997 and slowly introduced it to my newborn son.He became more interested in it little by little until he was able to sit through the whole video. He is now 7 1/2 and a 6th grade reader! We used many other tools as well, yet the classical music and red, white and black shapes, helped him understand shapes we are sure!I recommend that you slowly introduce if he/she does not seem interested.

2-0 out of 5 stars BORING..not very entertaining
I tried this video with my daughter at 3 months, then at 6 months. Both times she was very distracted and wouldn't pay attention to the colors or objects. She did like the Einstein videos, but this one just didn't move along fast enough. She did like the music in between the scenes, but overall, just didn't like this one at all.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not as captivating as other videos out there
I've purchased many of the "baby" videos on the market. This one just doesn't measure up to the rest.Sound quality is poor and seems rather dull.My children prefer the Baby Einstein and Brainy Baby series over the Babyscapes line, from birth on up.My three-year-old still loves to watch those with his six month-old sister.Avoid these, they just aren't worth the money. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Marsalis on Music
All four Marsalis on Music videos are entertaining, educational, and good enough to watch again. My mom puts his vides on our car video system because of the beautiful music she gets to hear in the background. My 5 year old sister and I particularly enjoyed Why Toes Tap where he explains the jazz and ragtime beats.Marsalis relates well to kids.I play both alto and tenor sax in my junior high school band, and would recommend Toes Tap for lunch time viewing for everyone before band practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth buying AND watching (over and over and . . . .)
This video is targeted toward young, basically beginning music students. It works well for that, but adults and more seasoned students will also benefit immensely. It is not only worth watching once, but worth watching every few months. Watching Marsalis and Yo Yo Ma trading licks is alone worth the price!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves this video!
We have most of the Beginner's Bible series, and this is one of his favorites.I do not believe these videos are intended for toddlers - my son still loves them at six but he really didn't watch them until he was three or four.

1-0 out of 5 stars What were they thinking
Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! This video is so bad it doesn't even get a ratting. The narrartor is dull and boaring. The acting is pathetic and the way the story is told is down right bad. My fiffteen month old who usually loves to sit down and whatch christian video was highly annnoyed. He was so not ammused he began to cry. This is deffinatly not for kids. I don't even reccamend it for preeteens or teenagers. It's long boaring, unentertaining, and lacks good music. I rather stick to talking vegetables and puppets (Veggie Tales and Great Bible Adventuures.

2-0 out of 5 stars I took it back for a refund!
I got this video for my kids, but took it back.I expect a Bible video to be accurate & this one was not.It had Eve being created after the Sabbath instead of on Friday. This is a gross error & there really isn't any excuse for it.If you want your kids to learn the truth, don't let them watch this one! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good instruction
This is a good video. It teaches some mild ChiGung. The real novelty here is the instruction about the healing sounds coupled to the exercises. I respectfully disagree with another reviewer that this video is too wordy. One can learn from the video and then going "inside" and doing the real training. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The purpose of this is for people who do not 'want' to read music
The person who hammered this product missed the point. This is created exactly for the purpose he criticized. I am 36 years old and I have no desire to learn to 'read music'. I just want to learn a simple way to play the piano. That is what I liked about this product. My wife can read music, and play beautiful songs but now I can as well at a simpler level. Mr. 1 Star must be resentful of the fact that this video allows people to play as well as him without the time or effort.

1-0 out of 5 stars Yuck!
The positive reviews given for this product must have been written by employees of the company who produced the product.Thankfully, I checked out this item from the library at no cost. This video is worthless for purposes of teaching you how to play the piano. It does not teach you how to read music. It does not teach you the 7 notes of the keyboard. It does not show you how to play any tunes. What does it do?It shows you how to play notes sequentially up and down the keyboard (as if you need a video to show you how to do that), and refers to the keys by numbers; whereas the rest of the world refers to the keys of a piano by the letters A to G.Very poorly conceived approach.

4-0 out of 5 stars I learned in 1/2 hour!

Editorial Review

The British Empire's legacy to India is the subcontinent's railway system. The largest railway under single management in the world, it covers 40,000 miles and has 7,000 stations, with 11,000 trains running every day and 80 million people depending on the train for their livelihood. With a staff of 1.6 million, India's railway is also the largest employer in the world. Steam trains and other locomotives are nostalgic reminders of a time gone by. This video, released in 1995, is in widescreen format and has a feature-film feel to it, with re-created scenes in sepia contributing to its extremely atmospheric mood. Though not a profound presentation, the video is an introduction to a fascinating railway system in a complex country. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Much More Than a Video About Steam Trains
This video is outstanding in all respects. The script, the naration, the videography, the music and the editing are all superb. One of the best National Geographic documentaries ever created. In just two hours such themes as the history of India, the politics of India, the religion of India, the geography of India, the passing of an era and growing older are skillfully and lyricly woven together with a story line that overtly explores the end of the steam era on the Indian rail system. This video be greatly enjoyed by a much broader audience than merely those steam train buffs among us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Thumbs (& a toe) Way Up!
One of my all-time favorite National Geographic videos. A journey on an Indian train is not unlike the journey of life itself - but one must be awake to the experience. If you haven't yet been experienced, you need to see this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the real thing?
Not only is this the best video travelogue I've ever seen, I suspect that it's one of the best National Geographic productions of any kind. The photography is absolutely breathtaking in its detail - just as good as the still images you'll find in the magazine. Linda Hunt's narration occasionally crosses the line into pomposity but is more often poetic and affecting. And the crew takes you places that only the most intrepid traveler would ever make it to on their own. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
I bought this WHS, when my daughter was 1 year old. Next week she will be 3 and she knows all the words from the video. She watches it max. twice a month. It is like a vocabulary builder, simple, clear and understandable. I teaches more languages for my daughter and however I have only this video and 2 cd-s to teach russian, it is more effective than dozens of spanish or french materials. The video does not use ciril letters and it can cause dissatisfaction for native russian speaker parents (but not for the kids :-).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great learning tool!!
We're adopting a baby from Russia & want to teach him as much Russian as possible. He hasn't arrived yet, but we've previewed the video. It really seems great!!It shows a word & then illustrates it (i.e., "boy"...then shows different ages of boys while repeating the word....in the corner at one point, the word "boy" in english will appear for parents to understand what exactly the word is). There is also a little paper guide to go along with it.We're looking forward to using it with our son!!:) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Tigers of the Snow!
Ever since I first heard about this documentary off of a preview for further National Geographic programs in January, my brother and I have wanted to buy it. Finally, at the tail-end of July, we bought it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Extremely well-made and interesting documentary
Superb footage of these very elusive, nearly extinct cats in the Siberian wilds. Typical National Geographic production, which is to say: well made movie, nice and clear narration, clear photography. For those of you who are into watching live chases of prey by predators, there isn't much here. But you won't be bored by the documentary at all. There are many riveting moments when you are holding your breath to see what's going to happen next. This is certainly a DVD to buy and keep.
4-0 out of 5 stars Nice movies about the Siberian Tigers
A nice one about the Siberian Tiger. It tells about the endangered tigers of Siberia and the efforts to save them. The videography is very good and all in all it is an interesting and educative movie for wildlife lovers. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not useful as a signing video
This video MAY have its place, but teaching signs isn't it.However, my baby loves watching scenes of other kids at play, and was as captivated by the kids in this video as she would be with any other, non-signing video.
3-0 out of 5 stars Timing and Accompaniment Might Make the Difference
If you have other signing videos and environments for your child, he or she may not like Talking Hands much at first. He or she might come to appreciate it over time, however... quite a bit. Other reviews here describe its content fully; I write here to testify that your child's first impressions of it can change.
2-0 out of 5 stars Check it out from the library before you would buy it.
I got this video from the library.I am glad I did so I didn't spend money on buying one. They teach 30-some signs in this video. The signs are:

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely Language Immersion for Young Children
I bought this for my 3 year old twins, who are learning Italian with me.It is recommended for children ages 1-5.It features real images (not cartoons) and shows three situations while the narrator repeats the word in Italian three times. So an apple may be shown three different times and the narrator will say the word "mela" three times.Images and words will be shown/said to complete a sentence. So they will show a dog and say the word "cane", then show children playing and say the word "giocare" and then show a ball and say the word "palla".Then, they form those words into a sentence, "The dog plays with the ball." all in Italian "Il cane gioca con la palla".When the sentence is said, they quickly flash the sentence in English for the parent, but are careful not to interrupt the flow of the child's concentration by flashing words in English during the individual images. However, they do show the words in Italian as they show the various images.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting look into the most famous house in America
I have recently become very interested in American history and have been buying up every dvd that looks cool regarding our great nation. I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting and captivating this video is. It not only shows the ins and outs of the white house but also touches on some of our history. I found myself grabbing my laptop and everytime something peaked my interest I was googling how the white house was destroyed by fire when captured by the british in 1814. I am looking forward to the day that I can sit down and watch it again with my children. Met and exceeded my expectations. Morgan freeman was good as well (narration). Peace and chicken grease!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good one but no where near the Air Force One
The only problem with this movie in my opinion is its running time. It could have also been limited to 60 minutes instead of 90 like Air Force One which is neither short nor to long and very accurate. This movie tells the history of the White House as to how Mr. George Washington decided to get it build and then afterwards the experiences of different Presidents and their families and the staff members. Also tells about the incidents and ups and downs faced by the House. Overall it is a well made informative movie but it is bit too long and to cover the length some material providing no information but only increasing the length has been introduced which could have been avoided.
