One of my all-time favorites!Brilliantly displays the brutal struggles between the two species and their will to survive.A very good source of information on spotted hyenas.I love this documentary.Highly recommended for nature/animal lovers.

After waiting for several years, I finally got the DVD two days ago through National Geographic. It was $30 (including shipping) but worth every penny! This is a stunning, riveting, enlightening documentary and - for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear - a commentary on our (U.S.) culture.

Dont read if you dont want the great scenes given away. :) Yes , this is the most powerfully affecting document i've seen.3 of the most emotionally impacting and gripping scenes and all one tape. I was very shocked and deeply saddened by what i saw . The matriach hyena being taken and in the manner that it was, the poisened lioness and the explosive arrival of the enraged male lion withhis extended slo-mo chase of the hyena .What an awesome climax whew haha . And a lioness being actually killed by the neighbouring pride not to mention the hyenas going after lionessesI had no idea all this happened . ... Read more

Barney and the gang get up a playground circus, featuring Barney the Balancing Dinosaur and Derek the Juggler. Guest Joe Scruggs sings songs; the whole point of the show is that exercise feels good. Also on this video is "Barney's Parade of Numbers," which features a visit from Mr. Tenagain, who has a passion for all things 10. This two-fer is the usual Barney fare, with a light emphasis on body and mind development. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cleanup Day with Exercise Circus & Parade of Numbers
My sisters loved this video. One day, while cleaning, I found Exercise Circus and Parade of Numbers in the hassock ."Do we really need this anymore?" I asked my sisters."No," they said.I put it on the floor and got an idea."Why don't you two find Barney videos to get rid of?" I asked them."You're six and seven! Barney is for babies up to the age of four."We put Live in New York City, Pretend with Barney (old version), Best Manners, Safety, Making Friends, and All Aboard for Sharing on the floor to get rid of.Then, we brought it to our local consignment shop for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers to watch at their own houses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Having tens of Fun
Barney's friend Mr. Tenagain comes to visit the children. Mr. Tenagain helps them learn to count. His favorite number is 10. Min counts by playing hopscotch, Michael counts by kicking his soccer ball, kathy counts her fingers, and Mr. Tenagain counts Tosha's ten little toes on her "Pretty little feet". They read a book about toes inspired by Tosha's and they sing.

Once upon a time kids learned many of their school lessons in the three-minute episodes of Schoolhouse Rock. These educational cartoons came on during the commercial breaks of the less-than-edifying Saturday morning fare in the 1970s, and despite their healthy content, kids stayed glued to the screen to sing along to the somewhat psychedelic cartoons. Countless children hummed their way through social studies. The Preamble to the Constitution is much easier to remember when it's set to music. And everyone who saw the cartoon remembers how a bill becomes a law ("Oh, I'm just a bill, a lonely old bill, sitting here on Capitol Hill").These and eight other shorts make up Read more

Well, i am here to say this is a fabulous tool! I watched all of these as a child and have shared them with my children. For those of you with the less than 5 star reviews let me say...This is not meant to be an exhaustive history lesson! It is a great way to introduce children to the history of our country. Something that, in my experience, schools made very boring. My children love history. If you find it not as accurate then be the one to take the next step and research it with your kids.I would agree it is geared toward younger kids but not that older kids would find it "stupid" at all! These reviews were pretty harsh. Also, the pilgrims DID plant food.Yes, the indians taught them everything and saved them but i wouldn't call that an inaccuracy. The movie just didn't get that deep into it.Come on now it is only a half hour! I highly recommend this to children of all ages.It opens the door to questions and conversations about our country that may not be raised otherwise. The music is very catchy and stays with you.It is plain and simple fun while being educational at the same time. Don't let the negative reviews sway you. This is a great video series and I highly recommend it!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Slow and Steady
As an owner of the VHS version 3 years ago, I practiced this video for about 4 months before I made a major move to another country. My practice involved just the awaken section of the workout as I was really out of shape. I then moved to Korea where I no longer had the tape to workout with. That brings us up to date when I recently I found the DVD version was available. In the meantime I had gotten myself in much better condition by a slow and steady yoga practice that has served to build up strength endurance and mental clarity. 5-0 out of 5 stars magical
The more I do this the more I like it. I've tried hatha, ashtanga and kundalini yoga and I've found kundalini to be the one that resonates with me the best - it's a great work out and way more fun than power yoga. Gurmukh is a weirdo, it's true; the first time she said "imagine you're on a carnival ride, and the best part is: the ride is you" I cringed, but having felt what kundalini does to my body and mind (pure ecstacy)I think she's an angel. I've done some investigating and it's true that she was 58 when she made this video! Crazy. Maybe not for everyone, but I love it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout, a few reservations
Let me start by saying I don't know anything about Kundalini yoga other than what's in this video, so I can't speak to whether it's authentic, dumbed down, etc.But I think this tape is a pretty good workout for someone like me, i.e., no back or knee problems, 5 months after having her third kid wants to lose those last 10 lbs. and get back into some semblance of shape, needs a relatively short workout and generally likes the stress-relieving aspects of yoga.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Watch It
Our daughter really enjoyed watching this. Helps little ones to identify different trucks...and Dave & Becky are just silly in this. We enjoy watching Dave on Sun morninings PBS. Looking forward to seeing the others that go with this on video.
3-0 out of 5 stars Needs more trucks and less silliness
My 23 month old son loves this video and asks to watch it over and over.He loves wathcing the different trucks work, but loses interest during the scenes where Dave and Becky are talking and arguing. Also, he gets upset about seeing the tow truck back into the car and then drop it and about watching the garbage truck drop the garbage can and then roll away.I'm ordering other truck videos hoping he'll get to see more of the trucks (the part that facinates him) and less of the silly stuff (that upsets him and annoys us).

5-0 out of 5 stars This One is a Winner
I ordered this for my 4 yr old grandson and he loves it. The first section about a firetruck doesn't interest him, but the others do. His 16 month old brother watches as well. The Baby Einstein Company's "video board books" were designed as music-focused developmental tools to stimulate babies' brains (prompted by researchproving that exposure to classical melodies can improve verbal ability, spatialintelligence, creativity, and memory in youngsters). Now the company isexpanding into other art forms, including color and art. The idea remains thesame--taking bold, beautiful objects (toys, puppets, nature scenes) and settingthem to fun renditions of classical music (their recordings are easily the bestin the crowded field of child development). A new puppet--Vincent Van Goat--introduces the six primary colors and associates them with Van Gogh'spaintings--"The Starry Night" for blue, "Wheat Fields with Reaper" for yellow. The only misstep is the poetry written and read by creator Julie Aigner-Clark, which is strongly reminiscent of Dr. Seuss's Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My two month old loves it!
I can't believe he likes these being so young, but he does. At two months old, he loves the different colors and stares at the TV the whole time. This one is really good. I sit with him and guide him a little, but he seems to respond to the colors and the music.
5-0 out of 5 stars Baby Einstein does it again!
We have quite the collection of Baby Einstein DVD's and this one does not disappoint. It has lots of puppets, which my 16 month LOVES.The only downfall is it is very short. . . .only about 25 minutes of actual video time. The newer Baby Einstein's are very disappointing. . . mostly animation which does not hold my little boy's attention.Van Gogh though has the original charm of the first Baby Einstein's.A great addition to your DVD collection.

My daughter has been watching this one since she was 4 months old and still loves it at 10 months. She loves the puppets and toys.My only issue with it is the volume. For each color, there is a vignette featuring a puppet with a voice-over of a poem about the color. It is impossible to hear the poem unless you really crank the volume up.All other sounds (background, sound effects, and music) are normal. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Holds a 1 year old's attention.
My 1 (almost 2) year old son likes this video. But he wants me to watch it with him. No bulldozers here, but shots from large construction sites (J.Paul Getty Museum in LA) . Almost like somthing you'd see on the discovery channel. I went out to a nearby construction site with my video camera and was able to get comparable shots of heavy equipment. My son doesn't seem to mind "forman Dave".

5-0 out of 5 stars great
Ok, ok. I know you're not "supposed" to put your child in front of the TV while you try to get something done. But here in the real world we have to do just that every once in a while. At least if I put on a video I know there won't be any surprises that I don't want my 2-1/2 year old seeing. This video is great for just that purpose. It runs a little over 1/2 an hour so it's not too long that I can take advantage of the "free time." It's just long enough to get dinner started and sometimes on the table. My son has loved it from the moment we first popped it into the VCR. I have also learned a lot about big machinery from it and have taken our education into the real world. He can now sit in the car as we run our errands and point out steam rollers, excavators, bulldozers, etc... which makes car time a lot less tedious. Highly recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed with its Spanish sections
I am very interested in introducing my baby to foreign languages, so this DVD seemed like a perfect option to start with. I was dissapointed to discover that when it comes to Spanish, it lacks native speakers, and there are grammar errors!!...Furthermore, the nursery rhymes in Spanish are translated litteraly, and they just do not work. I can only wonder if the same is true about other languages.
5-0 out of 5 stars irritating- but he LOVES IT
my 11 month old LOVES this DVD and has since he was about 5 months old. it is his all time favorite- he can't turn his head from the TV when this is playing. some parts are annoying for the rest of us in the family, and my husband says this video is going to make him stupid(i disagree), the songs don't go with the pictures (i think, although i can't understand what is being said most of the time), but he seems to think he knows what's going on, and it keeps him happy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible-don't waste your money
This supposed 'language lab' is VERY poorly designed. The dvd consists of images of items with a nursery rhyme or poem being recited in another language. The amazing thing is that the item shown has no relation to the words being spoken! It might as well be completely random sounds, since anyone who has studied child language acquisition knows that babies learn from making observations of language used in context. While I understand that supposedly this DVD is only intended to 'stimulate' the brain, by six months, a baby's brain has developed specifically to hone in on the sounds presented in his own native language, and to selectively ignore others. The brain continues to prune and forge neural networks in response to sounds from the language spoken in the home, thus the idea that random speech sounds are somehow beneficially stiumlating is invalid. A baby's brain becomes stimulated by the sounds that appear repeatedly in his own language. Habituation and imaging studies have shown this time and time again. Imagine if the baby's brain gave equal attention to any sound--the brain would waste valuable time and resources on information that would not be useful in learning to communicate with his caretakers. We acquire langauge so rapidly because the brain is selective.

2-0 out of 5 stars well, ..............
Well, I watched this & have to say it wan't that impressive.I was expecting it to glorify God a lot more than it did, and all but 1 person that they interviewed seemed kinda, I don't know, unemotional. They should have been jumping up & down, but they all kinda just sat there, talking.I think the biggest problem w/ this movie was they kinda made it seem that PEOPLE were being glorified instead of our Lord. Dannion Brinkley has been on another movie I saw once telling about his experiences, I find his account very fascinating.I really didn't care too much for this particular movie, sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Revealing
When you see programs about the life hereafter, you have to wonder about the validity of the message. This program has a basic honesty and validity that is hard to refute. The people who have been there and back again havepowerful messages, like Grace Bulbuka, who swears she was in the presenceof God when she "died".Dr. Melvin Morse, a pediatrician, tellsof several children under his care who died and were resusitated.Childrenhave no axe to grind; they have no pre-conceived notions; they have nopre-programmed descriptions of what lies ahead after death, and yet, thesechildren give us chilling details of what it's like to die and what awaitsus. This video tells a fascinating story. It is a story that may be themost important one of all.We all will die some day. What will happen atthat moment of death? This video has one possible answer. It's anintriguing answer and one that many people have embraced, especially thosewho have already been through the dying process.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring message
A key point brought out in this video is that those who have had a near-death experience are no longer afraid of death. After viewing the program I understand, probably not to the same degree, but this program hasgiven me comforting information about what to expect when I die, and I'mnot as fearful as I once was of dying. Watching this program is abeneficial way of spending one hour of your time. ... Read more

Billed as a "must see" for every parent and caregiver, this no-nonsensetutorial teaches step by step lifesaving techniques for use on infants and on children through age 8. In a calm, professional manner, Dr. Kathryn Moyerprovides basic information necessary to keep a child alive until emergencymedical help arrives. Part I covers CPR and choking techniques for infants, including how to perform back blows and chest thrusts and when to call 911. PartII details similar procedures for older children, and includes a thoroughexplanation of the Heimlich maneuver. To reinforce the lessons, material ispresented through spoken instruction, visual demonstrations on a dummy, andlastly, as text across the screen. While the concepts may be difficult to graspafter a single showing, it is an excellent tool when viewed regularly as arefresher course or in conjunction with a CPR class. I bought this video along with the CPR video because I plan on doing some day care in my home and wanted to brush up on my skills. I have taken First Aid and CPR courses in the past but had forgotten a lot of things. The video was very helpful and covered many things. I had my two daughters watch the videos with me as they plan on starting to babysit soon and they thought it was very helpful. I would recommend this video to everyone.

Editorial Review

Tad, Leap, and Lily hop from the pages of the amazingly popular Leap Pad learning toys onto the television screen in this attention grabbing phonics program.Tad's disappointment at being unable to help his family with an important presentation at the letter factory quickly turns to excitement when he meets Professor Quigley and joins each of the letters of the alphabet in their own fun-filled classroom devoted to learning their unique sound.Tad practices karate kicks with the k's, digs the vibes with the cool cat d's drumming on the bongos, and snores peacefully with the z's while learning to recognize each letter and the sound it makes.A catchy, fun song serves as a summation of each letter's "class" and entices even the most reluctant of toddlers (and their parents) to sing each letter's sound. An interactive game follows the program and gives children a chance to practice their newfound skills of recognizing letters and their sounds.Consumers expect great educational products from LeapFrog and this DVD won't disappoint. 5-0 out of 5 stars Huge Success!
My 4 year old son has had little interest in letters or their sounds until a friend introduced us to this video. He has watched it 3 times and loves to tell me what sounds the letters make. They have a new meaning to him now.The letters are as alive to him as they are in the video. My 2 year old daughter seems interested in the video also and tries to make the sounds with her brother. Thanks Jessica for recommending it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD
I can't say enough good things about this DVD.My son started watching this at about 2 1/2 and he knew the letters and their sounds in a few weeks. Now that he is about to be 3, he still uses the sounds and the sayings from the DVD whenever he sees a particular letter.I have recommended this one to all my friends and family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still watching after over a year
My now 4 year old son and 2 1/2 daughter love this video and I even enjoy it from time to time. They sometimes actually request it over other favorites. When we are outside playing or gardening, we'll sing the song that goes along with the video for extra practice on which letters make which sounds and my son does really good.My daughter however loses interest quickly and goes off to play with something else.Leap Frog has done it again!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Tool forSpeech and Language Development
My 18 month loves this video and asks for it by name (/babi/ /baebo/).He loves to imitate the sounds, facial expressions, and words in the video.I can't tell you how much he has picked up from this video!I am an early childhood speech-language pathologist and I bought this video to recommend to my clients.I love the vocabulary and speech models that it offers.I use alot of the same techniques and toys when I work with my clients.

5-0 out of 5 stars non-special-needs children love it too!
I love excellent educational tools and this is definitely one!My son (16 months) interacts with this video and it makes him (and me) even more aware of speach sounds around him.

5-0 out of 5 stars better than baby einstein
My 2 1/2 year old autistic son loves this video and has actually learned from it.He imitates the sounds and even the mouth movements.I often hear him using words from the video in other contexts. It is very low budget but seems to really work with children and he has used what he learns more than any other video. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Fun & educational but recording is of poor quality
This is a lighthearted, fun and lively video showing the daily care of horses. My two toddlers adore horses, and I couldn't wait to pop this tape in to capture their attention with live action. Though the scenes are authentic and there is much to learn from the animal's characteristics to how to bathe and brush them, the picture quality is so poor that it makes watching it in its entirey a real chore. There is a graininess to the video that doesn't change on smaller screens, so basically you won't enjoy watching along with your kids. The actors in the film deliver their lines in a way that truly seems rehearsed from script, but this won't matter to kids since they speak clearly and in simple to understand language. The music is very sweet too. They also incorporate special needs children in the film, which is a refreshing change. It's just too bad the film company didn't record on a faster speed tape to ensure clarity.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clip Clop the Horse
I got this video for my kids to learn more about Horses since I am allergic to them. Both my sons are on the autism spectrum with the non verbal son really enjoying the songs on the video and how they take care of the horses.
5-0 out of 5 stars What a FUN educational video.

Editorial Review

Building words is an exciting and empowering experience for youngchildren (and frogs) who have mastered individual letters and their sounds. When young Tad wants to nominate his Dad for a "Best Dad" contest he askshis brother Leap and sister Lily for some help filling out the application. The three young frogs go see Professor Quigley at their Father's TalkingWord Factory for a little instruction and get to watch the"Sticky-ick-o-rama" and the "Word Whammer" machines at work.Tad quicklydiscovers that vowels act as the glue that sticks letters together and thenlearns to combine individual letter sounds to make three-letter words, usecommon ending sounds to create rhyming words, and blend letter sounds tomake even longer rhyming words.Phonemic awareness, vocabulary building, and rhyming are entertaining and fun thanks to familiar Leap Padcharacters, colorful animation, and short songs. An interactive wordgame challenges young viewers to fill in the missing first letterin a variety of three-letter words. This program is a great next step forgraduates of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool in helping your little one to read...
If you're thinking of buying this DVD for your 4 or 5 year old DON'T HESITATE!!! This video will be a blessing to your little one. I'm a homeschooling mom and this video has 'turned-on' the light to pre-reading for my [...] year old. I don't like to use the TV as a 'baby sitter' but when I do, this is what I run to. My son has started reading at 4 and I give all the credit to this video! He can point to a letter and make it's sound, then does the same for another two letters and then he puts the sounds together! He can read the words NO, YES, BED, CAT, DOG, MIX, and some others as well. It's just amazing...not only that, but it keeps him entertained too and it's totally clean!!! Buy this DVD and it will help your little one overcome the challenges in pre-reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
These video's are incredible. My [...] is writing out words already... at [...]!My [...] also loves this video. We started the older one at 2 watching "Letter Factory", and as he learned the alphabet he also learned the sounds each letter made.He loves showing off to friends how much he knows.I reccomend the whole video series to anyone with kids ages 1 to 7.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Beginner Reader

5-0 out of 5 stars fun and educational
Dave and Becky are back in this movie which takes them to the Kenedy space center among other places. Typical Dave antics abound, but I know my children have learned lots from this and all the "There goes a...." movies.

4-0 out of 5 stars another adventure for Dave and Becky
If you are familiar with the There Goes A .... video series, you'll know what to expect here.Dave and Becky visit rockets, try on space suits and generally bring a bit of the Stooges to NASA as they learn about rockets and astronauts. Not the best of there many adventures, but of interest to fans of the series or kids who want to know a bit about our space program.

2-0 out of 5 stars Little Mammoth is better
I bought this video for my son because I was looking for a child-level introduction to the some of the things I find interesting. My son does enjoy this video but I feel that he doesn't need to be exposed to the pointless, foolish humor used throughout. There are some good scenes in this video. One of Dave running alongside a Saturn 5 rocket really gives a sense of the scale, but why give a visual explanation of how an astronaut uses a toilet? If you're looking for a good video for kids that introduces them to the space shuttle and rockets I would recommend The Big Space Shuttle by Little Mammoth Media. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great beginner DVD
I really enjoyed viewing the DVD and find it is a good start for a beginner. The lessons progress in a logical manner and the ASL Alphabet is presented very well.If you do not learn the first time around, you can select the portion of the DVD to review over and over.Once you progress in ASL, the DVD becomes less useful, but still entertaining and helpful in understanding the Deaf culture.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome and entertaining way to learn!
It's a really good movie for most of the basics and important things in sign language. It's fun to watch, you should watch it over and over and that's how you learn. It also teaches you a little about deaf culture which is also important, not only knowing how to sign, but knowing about deaf people.I give it two thumbs up!

4-0 out of 5 stars Love to dance
This is a great series for begining bellydancing. It will help you work all the way up and you can go at your own pace. The Instructors are knowledgeable and I love the format of the video. Overall worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Challenging but great instruction
I found this tape to be a great instruction for more difficult moves , that are not found in beginner tapes.I think the instructions in these tapes are the most complete and easy to understand than in most other belly dance instructional videos. Neena and Veena are always shown at full body view, and turn sideways to show further instruction to some movements. They show footwork , and one nice thing is that they do not wear overwhelming costumes so you are allowed to see the movements without obstruction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for review and practice
If you are a beginner, this video will help you expand your basic bellydance vocabulary and improve the technique. It will also help you understand how bellydance moves can be combined to form a dance. For an intermediate dancer, the "Beyond Basic Dance" routine can be a valuable supplement to your regular practice. Everything is shown very clearly, good pace, clean simple choreography. I found it very useful. ... Read more
