5-0 out of 5 stars Now all I need is a video of "Time for Timer!"
When my son was born, and only my singing seemed to comfort him, (my singing had never comforted anyone before...) I found myself singing "The Preamble" and "Conjunction Junction." I bought all four Schoolhouse Rock videos shortly afterwards.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for ALL AGES!
As a kid, I loved the Schoolhouse Rock series and still remember the Grammar Rock songs. As a mom, I came across Schoolhouse Rock again by chance and thought I'd get the tapes for my kids who are now 2 and (nearly) 5 to enjoy when they're older.Amazingly, not only my Kindergartener but also my 2 year old prefer this tape to just about anything else right now - including the Wiggles and Blues Clues!I thought I'd bought these for the future, but they absolutely love the music and the animation and my 2-year old goes around singing snatches of "Interjections" and "Lolly Lolly Lolly get your Adverbs Here".As for my Kindergarten-age son, he has grown to enjoy it on a whole new level now that he is reading and beginning to learn grammar and punctuation concepts.Parents, it's never too soon to invest in this gem!I'd much rather have them watching this than the Rugrats or something... ... From 1973 to 1985, a generation of kids watching Saturday morning television learned the function of conjunctions and the preamble to the U.S. Constitution with the help of an animated series called Schoolhouse Rock! The brainchild of executives at McCaffrey and McCall Advertising, the three-minute segments combined whimsical cartoons with catchy music (rock was only one of the styles) to help kids learn seemingly dry topics as easily as they could learn popular songs. 5-0 out of 5 stars This is a good movie to learn about math skills
I enjoyed this movie so much 'cuz it help me thru my math skills and how I can use them to study and learn. This is the best school movie I ever enjoyed incl. the soundtrack. I was 5 or 6 when I grew up w/ this and I liked it a lot. I mean a WHOLE lot.
5-0 out of 5 stars This has 2 much excitement
you tired of learning multipliplacation by talking and no videos?Well, those days are over because of Schoolhouse Rock!-Multiplication Rock (1973).This is more fun then just having to talk about multiplication and not understanding it.It has songs, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Schoolhouse Rock Testimonial
When I was in third grade I never could get my times tables down pat- the sevens and twelves proved especially tricky. So my mom checked out this video from the library, and that changed immediately. I could rattle off my multiplication tables as fast as everybody else after watching this only a few times. Amazing! That same year I got put in advanced math. Coincidence? I think not! All the songs were just so catchy. I loved it when I saw the NIKE commercial playing "Three is the Magic Number", that's one of my favorites. Anyways, parents, this is a great buy for your kids and I doubt that you'll get tired of the tunes. ... Read more

Once upon a time kids learned many of their school lessons in the three-minute episodes of Schoolhouse Rock. These educational cartoons came on during the commercial breaks of the less-than-edifying Saturday morning fare in the 1970s, and despite their healthy content, kids stayed glued to the screen to sing along to the somewhat psychedelic cartoons. Countless children hummed their way through social studies. The Preamble to the Constitution is much easier to remember when it's set to music. And everyone who saw the cartoon remembers how a bill becomes a law ("Oh, I'm just a bill, a lonely old bill, sitting here on Capitol Hill").These and eight other shorts make up Read more

Well, i am here to say this is a fabulous tool! I watched all of these as a child and have shared them with my children. For those of you with the less than 5 star reviews let me say...This is not meant to be an exhaustive history lesson! It is a great way to introduce children to the history of our country. Something that, in my experience, schools made very boring. My children love history. If you find it not as accurate then be the one to take the next step and research it with your kids.I would agree it is geared toward younger kids but not that older kids would find it "stupid" at all! These reviews were pretty harsh. Also, the pilgrims DID plant food.Yes, the indians taught them everything and saved them but i wouldn't call that an inaccuracy. The movie just didn't get that deep into it.Come on now it is only a half hour! I highly recommend this to children of all ages.It opens the door to questions and conversations about our country that may not be raised otherwise. The music is very catchy and stays with you.It is plain and simple fun while being educational at the same time. Don't let the negative reviews sway you. This is a great video series and I highly recommend it!! ... Read more

This Is America, Charlie Brown cartoons were very innovative specials that featured the Peanuts characters in important moments in history, and gave kids (as well as parents) a fun insight on how certain histicorial characters (and their influences) came to be. This episode is about the how the Constitution was created, as well as how the legislative, executive and judicial branches affected the delegates. The special mainly revolved around Linus and Peppermint Patty, but the other usual characters were there as well (Schroeder was only in one scene, but he didn't have any line).5-0 out of 5 stars It was good.

Finally, parents will have something to pop in the VCR when their hopelessly addicted tots ask for a hit of the blue dog during one of the many hours it's not actually playing on television. This 50-minute video contains two segments that touch on several traditional tales, but focus on "The Three Little Pigs" and "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." There's a little Elvis humor for the adults, but most of the jokes are aimed squarely at the pre-K set, who are asked to help our rugby-shirted friend Steve discover his evasive cartoon dog's favorite stories. With any luck, the video should buy you more than 50 minutes of peace as your child is likely to be inspired to engage his or her dog in porridge-portion comparisons or corner the cat behind the washing machine for a rousing game of "Little pig, little pig, let me come in." 1-0 out of 5 stars NOT a good choice
For a video that is intended to be educational for very young children, this is the worst! My primary complaint is the serious speech impediment of the main character, Baby Bear. How does this help children learn to speak properly??In addition, his attitude is terrible. Finally, some of the animation (the letter "F" faces) is scary for young children. My daughter (who is about to turn 2) has several of the Sesame Street videos and this is the only one that I absolutely would NOT recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!
My two girls love to watch it all day over & over agan LOL. My girls are 3 & 1 and my 3 year with in the first two weeks she is starting to say the letters of the Alphabet along with the DVD. This is a must for kids early development.
3-0 out of 5 stars Speech impediment of main character is an issue
OK, on the good side, this video contains all the favorite Sesame Street characters; is fairly long; has puppets, cartoons, animals, music, and some celebrity cameos; and most importantly, teaches kids the alphabet in a fun way. My 4 children have enjoyed it. However, one big issue with this video is the speech of the main character, Baby Bear. Sesame Street has always used the most ordinary looking children (not model-types) and has made its muppets with varying character traits, apparently, in an effort to show children that people come in all shapes and sizes - very "PC" and this was true even in the 70's before being "PC" was even defined as such. Having an instructional video with a speech-impaired puppet, though, is problematic. Forget trying to show kids that "Oh, some children speak like that and so that's part of the real world and it's OK". No. This is an educational video and I'm surprised and annoyed that this bear seems to say every possible word there is with a mispronouned "R", or as he says "aww" (rhymes with raw-ooo). So everytime this video is watched, my 2 year old thinks that it's correct to say "Beawwww" instead of Bear, "lettewwws" instead of letters, "twide" insted of tried, etc. Besides the educational shortcomings, the Awwwws begin to seriously grate on my nerves. If you can live with the fact that a main character in serious need of speech therapy is teaching your kids how to speak, then you may find this video enjoyable. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

It's October 31 and Barney and the kids are decorating for a Halloween party at school. This means a trip to a local farm for the usual pumpkins, the Indian corn, and a good excuse for some seasonal songs ("You can call it fall, if that's what you please / But I say I like autumn.") There are14 songs, including at least one repeat from an earlier tape, and the usual Barney-ized versions of traditional tunes--the most bizarre being "S-M-I-L-E" to the music of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." The prehistoric galoot and his "Halloween team" make some construction-paper spiders and paper-bag owls that are easy to duplicate at home and some foot-painting that would do a number on your carpets. The party is the big payoff, complete with prizeless games, a candy-filled piñata, and Barney boogeying down. The secondary story has BJ and Baby Bop on a dismal trick-or-treat outing, which includes safety advice but ultimately seems to suggest that this most-typical Halloween activity isn't a good idea. On the costume front, cowboys, ballerinas, and scarecrows are the order of the night, as this festive, but decidedly unspooky, 50-minute tape sidesteps the whole ghost/witch/goblin theme. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars For Barney, This is Pretty Good
Even for those parents, who are not Barney fans, this DVD is a good one.The songs are cute & our two year old son manages to be able to sing along with some of them. The decorations that they make (spiders from hand prints, ghosts from foot prints) will give you some ideas of ways to entertain your children around Halloween. The costumes are good - certainly not too scary for small children.Overall, our son gives it two thumbs up and requests this DVD by name (even after Halloween)!

This is the ONLY DVD that she will watch for the entire length of it!I have even restarted it with her still in her "Elmo trance" and she still didn't budge! This has been her best Easter present! She has since received three Elmo's World DVDs that she likes, but they still do not compare to how much she LOVES this one. With the Elmo's World DVDs, she gets bored when they show Mr. Noodle and the other "real people" clips.Maybe those are more interesting for older kids, but for my daughter, she just isn't interested.

5-0 out of 5 stars 2 little thumbs up!
A great addition to the Elmo collection. We liked this so much we bought the cd to listen to in her room for play time. Excellent video. ... Read more

Anyways, parents, this is a great buy for your kids and I doubt that you'll get tired of the tunes. ... Read more

"Halloween & Thanksgiving" is a "Bear in the Big Blue House" VHS release featuring two "Bear" episodes --- "Halloween Bear" and "The Best Thanksgiving Ever." For a video production, the quality is pretty top-notch --- both episodes are close-captioned, the sound is hi-fi and the recording mode is SP.

Without a doubt, "The Prince of Egypt" is my all-time favorite movie. I absolutely love it. I can watch it over and over again, and I don't think I'd ever get tired of it. The animation is superior, the acting is stunning, and the music is powerful.

We ordered this video since my 12 month old son is fascinated by dogs and other babies. The best part is when they show the Sesame Street characters when they were babies.

2-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, but not very educational

When a special effect turns Tosha's bedroom closet into a stairwellof a pirate ship, the viewer knows this will be a different Barneyexperience. Tosha and Min and their lumbering dinosaur guide climb aboard tojoin Baby Bop, B.J., and the boys on a journey to the titular island. After ahearty land-ho, Barney and the kids explore the island, stopping along theway to turn tree branches, starfish, and clams into percussion instruments andbreak out in song. They stumble onto a thatched cottage, and its owner,Professor Tinkerputt, invites them in to look, but not touch, the beautifultoys he makes for himself. The gang turns the professor's life around byteaching him about sharing and he decides to join them on their journey homein order to give his toys to children. On the scale of adult irritation, thisfanciful Barney installment ranks surprisingly low. Older children who have outgrown some of the more lesson-oriented tapes in the series may even find themselves watching this one with their younger siblings. (Ages 1-8) Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite
My toddler granddaughter loves this Barney video just like she does all the other Barney videos, but I even enjoy this one. If I were a little kid, this is the one that I would watch over and over....in fact, I have...but with my granddaughter, of course. The make-believe part where the kids and Barney journey by ship to Imagination Island is perfect! It reminds me of the old Storybook Land that used to sit where DFW airport is now. This is a very charming video that kids up to the age of 10 are sure to enjoy.

It was truly amazing. It has all my favorite Barney Songs.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Barney video/movie
I just bought this on sale at Walmart on VHS for about $6, and the box said it was 29 minutes, but it ended up to be the full-length 50 minute show. It's not the same studio background as the TV show, so it has that movie feel, and it's PERFECT for my 3 1/2 year old daughter (and my 1 1/2 year old son even sits still to watch it!).And, though I normally don't enjoy Barney shows, I must admit I find this little movie so sweet! It starts off in a cozy girly bedroom with two friends for a sleepover, then Barney shows up and they venture off onto a pirate ship to meet the guys and other dinosaur characters. They land on an island, meet this great character played by a middle aged man who ends up sharing his toy inventions after the gang teaches him how great sharing can be.The man sings a great catchy song and is very entertaining. Then the gang travels home and the girls end up back in the cozy bedroom.Catchy songs are just minutes in between the whole video. This is great for girls and boys, such a sweet fun feel to the whole show.I have become a fan of Barney since my kids love him, and the shows teach such great examples, and I have to say of all we have, this is the best show! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun workout
This is by far one of Richard Simmons best videos. It is for an intermediate level. You can easily catch on to all the moves after about 3 tries! It is short enough to stick with, and long enough to get results. If you are in top shape, this is too easy for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not his best Video
I love his Sweatin' to the Oldies.I use them at least every other day and I am seeing great results.I bought this video with the same high hopes and was seriously dissapointed.Dance your pants off was made for people ALREADY in shape, in my opinion.I can't keep up with the tape.If you are overweight like I am, buy one of the Sweatin' to the Oldies tapes and leave this one for skinny people!

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun music but you might trip over your own feet.
I bought this tape mostly because of the fun music.I'm not sure what I expected when I thought about the dancing part of the video. In "Sweatin to the Oldies" for example, the only "dancing" you do is the twist. So I guess I expected this video to be more fun type dancing.Well, there are about a million different moves and he doesn't do anything twice. You start to do one thing and he changes to another.I was falling over my feet and quickly became frustrated.I broke a sweat just trying to follow what they were doing which was so frustrating I shut the tape off.The next night I tried it again and I've done the routine 3-4 times now and it does get easier.I don't think it was meant for beginners but it doesn't tell you that anywhere. The other thing about this tape that sort of bugged me were all the cute skinny women who looked like they were semi-professional dancers. He usually always has a mix of people in his tapes but not once did he actually dance next to a normal or heavy person. ...
