5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful introduction
This video is a wonderful introduction into contemporary scholarship for those looking to understand the "man" Jesus of Nazareth and the movement that he inspired. The three speakers coming from very different backgrounds (2 academics and one pastor) offer insight into the culture that formed Jesus and those who came after him as well as a sequential presentation of his message. This is a wonderful product for adult education and high school confirmation groups, or for those who thirst to "know" Jesus for our time. ... Editorial Review

Angola Prison in Louisiana is the biggest maximum security prison in the country. This is where the most dangerous criminals go and where parole hearings are a mere formality. A startling 85 percent of all inmates die inside. A small video crew was given unprecedented access to the inmates, of which six were chosen from 5,000 to give a portrait of life in the facility, also known as "the Farm." Two of the men continue the fight to prove their innocence. Two veterans have found redemption in personal transformations, one man as a prison activist, the other as a preacher. Two men prepare for death--one faces execution, the other is being eaten away by cancer. It's unlikely any of them will emerge from prison alive. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Amazing, Inside depth, Prison Documentary!!!
It is no wonder this film took the 1998 Best Film documentary by the National Society of Film Critics,Association, and Oscar- nominated for Best Documentary. The Farm is the incredible and heart wrenching story of six inmates at Americas most infamous Prison...Angola, a former slave plantation spreading across 12,000 acres of Louisiana farmland. Do not miss this movie.......you'll have a greater understanding oif how the system works and a sence of darkness of some lifes, and how the heart can cry out. Once you start watching, you won't want to be disturbed. 5***** all the way. Very touching!

This film is free of Hollywood glamour, and you love it for just that reason. It's a great documentary, and definitely worth the price.About 15 minutes into the film you get that weird sensation in your throat, and have trouble swallowing.Everything becomes clear, from now on you'll be a preacher boy just to keep clear of Angola, and anything that could resemble it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Well Worth the Rental
I'm a big fan of the Eyewitness series. Where else can you find such a great blend of history, science, and myth? This series is sure to delight youngsters and adults with a particular interest in science and horses. Let me first say, that Eyewitness Horse has some of the most beautiful cinematography in the series. The scenes of the beautiful wild horses, and the interesting insight into the origination of mules and other crossbreeds were well presented. I thought the lipizanner horses were beautiful, and the commentary about horse 'speech' was quite well thought out.5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful video!!!
I would highly reccomend this video for kids and adults who love horses!Very well produced, good background music, and very informative. Thephotography was breathtaking! And I liked the bit about horseshoes andother horse-related myths and legends. The simulated Pegasus is neat, andthe Shetland Pony is a doll!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Conspiracist or apologist, this film is a must see!
Whether you believe Oswald acted alone, was part of a conspiracy, or was nowhere around, this film is worth the price. As a native Dallasite, I found the film footage of my hometown when it was still a great place to live to be priceless.Golly, remember when people still shopped downtown?! The film offers a very realistic flavor of both Dallas and America in pre-assassination times, it's almost unnerving to see an America that still trusted its elected representatives and institutions of authority.Richard Basehart's narration is excellent, and Kennedy's presidency as well as his trip to the south is well explained to even a complete Kennedy novice. The "man on the street" interviews that give us the reaction of both famous heads of state and average Americans immediately upon hearing the news of the assassination are interesting and sad, and the entire film will serve to transport you back in time as no present-day piece on this subject can do.Much of the second half of the film deals with the planning and execution of Kennedy's funeral, and this comes as close as anything I've yet seen to recreating what those days were like.If you're too young to remember this event, this film is a must see.Even us conspiracy theorists can overlook the assumption of Oswald's guilt (an assumption that, unlike post-Warren Commission material, is not shoved down your throat).I have been researching Kennedy assassination materials for years, and I find these contemporary efforts such as "Four Days in November" and Mark Lane's film "Rush to Judgement" to be far more valuable tools than latter day efforts, as the waters have now been so muddied by disinformation that we lose the real feel of these tragic events.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great vintage footage of 11/18-11/22/63!
As the leading civilian authority on the Secret Service, I highly recommend this video for the outstanding vintage footage of JFK's trips to Florida and Texas 11/18-11/22/63. Of particular note is the Tampa trip depicting the start of the motorcade with agents on/ near the rear of the limo and the Love Field footage ('discovered' by myself in 1991 and shown on The Men Who Killed Kennedy, again by myself, in 2003) showing agent Henry J. Rybka being recalled by ATSAIC Emory P. Roberts.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lilias! Alive with Yoga: Intermediate
Lilia is great and years ago Ihave practiced with her on the educational channel. However, Ithink that she rushes through the postures and does not emphasizethe importance of breath and holdingthe pose.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lilias' best video
I don't have all of Lilias' tapes yet but this is my favorite one so far. Lilias is the best instructor I've ever followed. She has a great personality and she's beautiful too. In this video she is wearing her blue leotard. The video is designed so you can watch part of it if you don't have much time or all of it if you have more time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two versions are available
I would highly recommend this video - it's very good to use after you've been doing Lilias' "beginner" tapes for awhile. They're many of the same postures but much more strenuous, and at a quicker pace. I findthe "downward dog series" is really improving my posture, whichis poor after 4 c-sections.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Road to Freedom, The Vernon Johns Story -A Masterpiece
A must see movie, James Earl Jones does and excellent job playing Vernon Johns, a brave,Christian Preacher in Alabama at Dexter Baptist Church. I have seen the movie twice, and would watch it many more times. A film to help us understand our past, and hopefully grow in our future. This movie should be shown again on tv and should have never been taken out of print.
5-0 out of 5 stars Unusually Powerful !!
This is a movie that is a must for those who are brave enough to look into the eyes of a fearless man who walked in the spirit and power of a "John the Baptist." America only acknowledges Dr. M.L. King and Mrs. Rosa Parks, but they stood on the shoulders of Rev. Vernon Johns. He was the beginning of the "revolution for righteousness." He showed them how to take the reigns for control of their own lives. They listened. Excellently written script. A classic that should be required viewing in every junior high school. I only regret that neither Johns, nor King ever got to enjoy the respect, appreciation and acclaim they so very much deserved. This is a classic, fit for ANY home or age.

4-0 out of 5 stars I like this movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars The story behind the music...
Ok it wasn't exactly what I expected, which teaches me to read the reviews :D, but its still worth the watch to get a feel of those times and how the music came together. I bought it as a gift, and though more music would have been appreciated...it was a good blend of documentary and the music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb music!
I rented this movie on DVD having little knowlege about the subject matter other than it was an award winning documentary. Essentially, for me, it was an introduction to a new type of music. Many years ago in junior high school in a small town in the Rockies my Spanish teacher was a newly arrived Cuban immigrant. He was an excellent teacher and that memory made me curious about this movie. This gathering of semi-retired musicians still has so much soul and if you don't get goose bumps at least once you are probably tone deaf. Unfortunately, I have seen only the Japanese edition here in Japan which has no English subtitles for my Spanish which has grown rusty. Although I can read Japanese subtitles I would prefer English ones for the lyrics.

5-0 out of 5 stars What we as parents really don't (or want to) see.......
This video is a must see for any parent who is the slightest bit interested or concerned about the future of our children and ultimately our country.I am very worried about our country's future because of our children's apparent lack of moral fiber and extremely apathetic viewpoint. This program will (and should) be a wakeup call to all parents of preteen and teen children.I also highly recommend the Frontline video titled "Merchants of Cool." This shows exactly how our children are influenced by Corporate big business to be like they are soley for gain of the corporate all-mighty-dollar.A vicious cycle that needs to be broken.Definitely a video that parents and children need to watch and DISCUSS!

5-0 out of 5 stars A riveting, disturbing documentary...
Most of the parents in this story were workaholics, consumed with social status. Rarely home to see what their children were up to, they showered them with material goods in order to salve their guilty consciences. Left to their own devices, their unsupervised children naturally ran wild. Starved for any kind of attention, they frequented orgies where they had sex with many total strangers, ruined their reputations and self-images, and contracted life-threatening social diseases. Viewing this is like that slow motion feeling you get when you're in a car wreck--you know what's coming, but somehow you can't look away. This Frontline documentary should act as a real wake up call for parents who value their jobs more than their offspring.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why All the Surprise?
Parents who work 40, 60, and 80 hours a week, put the kids first, and look the other way should not be surprised when stuff like this happens. If Ihad abused my freedom this badly, my parents would have raised Cain.Andmaybe put me out on the street. ... Read more

This 1977 documentary was produced toward the end of O'Keefe's life, at a time when the artist was at one with her art and her life. The hour-long film plays mainly off of O'Keefe's own words; there is no narrator's voice, there is barely an interviewer's voice. O'Keefe speaks alone--with a soft, gentle eloquence that we can also hear in her paintings, a well-articulated firmness that is unintimidating, witty, provocative, and in the end, beautiful.Read more

Editorial Review

Director Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner) solemnly alerts us to the glory that was Spinal Tap in his introduction to this "rockumentary" about the legendary British heavy-metal group, featuring lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), lead singer David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), bassist Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), and a succession of drummers whose careers were cut short by spontaneously combusting on their stool, drowning in somebody else's vomit, or otherwise perishing in untimely fashion. Under DiBergi's studious interrogation, the band and their familiars retrace the band's evolution from head-bopping Mersey Beat poseurs to head-banging metal poseurs, each change in musical direction or tonsorial chic having little effect on the surviving trio's sublime idiocy. For, as St. Hubbins (he's the "deep" one, relatively speaking) sagely observes, "It's such a fine line between stupid and clever."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 11/10
How to be a part of real Rock History without being a musician, singer, producer or someone in the music business? Answer: Make a movie as this one. Almost every serious Rock fan and rock star must have seen this movie or if they haven't, they had better see it before they go out and give another interview. Believe me, there are bands and performers who still talk and give interviews like Spinal Tap did in this movie. This movie is made for these guys. Like me, if you have watched countless interviews of rockstars, popstars and movie stars you cannot do without this classic. The Lead guitarist was my favourite. I could give him an Oscar for his brilliant performance. If Jimmy Page used a bow on his guitar you must wait and see what the lead guitarist ofSpinal Tap does.

Atlanta's Morehouse College has long been revered as a leading academic institution, and as an all-male, historically African American institution, it has been viewed as a shaper of American black leaders, including perhaps its most notable graduate, Martin Luther King Jr.In this video, Morehouse is viewed through the eyes of its students during the 1993-94 academic year, and their year at Morehouse is seen to be an experience in character and spiritual development as much as an exercise in academic endeavor.Footage shot during a fall "spirit night," a late-night ritual to promote bonding among the student body, sets the tone for the video, which features interviews with Morehouse professors as well as notable grads filmmaker Spike Lee and Olympic gold medallist Edwin Moses.Profiles of specific students show their development through the course of the school year, and the mystique of being a "Morehouse Man," as opposed to merely a Morehouse graduate, is explored in this intelligent examination of the character of this incredible educational institution. Understanding diversity comes through exploration and deciding what is right for you. I was not offended and I would recommend this movie. Anyone secure in their own beliefs will take the content accordingly. If you are unsure of your beliefs, you may be threatened or enlightened. Either way I am pleased to see it on the market. I support freedom of speech and religion. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Space flight enthusiasts: Informative, Interesting and one for your library.
This series made in the late 80's chronicles the US space program but goes much deeper into the history of flight and space travel. The historical aspects and investigation that went on behind the scenes is well evident in the quality of a production that this series is. If you are looking for something like a Hollywood movie, this is not it. If you are looking for an excellent tool to learn something about the space program, this is one of the best resources out there, even though it is almost 20 years old, even with the upcoming retiring of the Shuttle in 2010 (not too far away) it is still relevant and enjoyable to watch.
4-0 out of 5 stars Returning to this classic series
First time I viewed this series was when my local PBS station aired it following the Challenger disaster. I had taped the shows but in the last 20 years they are long gone. So, I'm purchasing the Spaceflight series through Amazon.com. Too bad it's not on DVD. I loved Martin Sheen's narration as he walked us through the history of space flight. Most importantly however, I will view this series in the aftermath of the Columbia accident, a long return to the shuttle program which is now and the U.S. space program stuck in neutral. Perhaps we can regain the wonder and promise of manned space. This series showed us how it started.

4-0 out of 5 stars An educational and exciting history of space flight
For any space flight buffs, or anyone interested in the history of this subject, this is an excellent excursion through one of the miracles of science. This PBS film from the masters of educational documentaries highlights flight in space, from past to present, taking a look at the technology through the years.Although some parts may be slow in pace in this tape, I still recommend this one to anyone interested in anything from early rocket models to modern-day space shuttles. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent archival footage and dramatic news as-it-happens
I recommend this for your burn-to-dvdr collection for the archival footage (primary witnesses, statements, etc.), as well as the dramatic news as-it-happens as told by Chet Huntley, Bill Ryan, David Brinkley, and co. There are some real gems on this video that defy description: you HAVE to own it to see them! Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

As the leading civilian authority on the Secret Service, I highly recommend this video for the great vintage footage included herein. Here is some Secret Service research NOT included on this video(courtesy of my efforts):
5-0 out of 5 stars "As-It-Happened" NBC-TV Coverage Of 11-22-63 (Part 1 Of 2)
"The Kennedy Assassination -- Part 1" features two solid hours of NBC-TV "As-It-Is-Happening" news coverage from Friday, November 22, 1963 -- the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in downtown Dallas, Texas, while riding in his open-top limousine through Dealey Plaza.

Editorial Review

The British Empire's legacy to India is the subcontinent's railway system. The largest railway under single management in the world, it covers 40,000 miles and has 7,000 stations, with 11,000 trains running every day and 80 million people depending on the train for their livelihood. With a staff of 1.6 million, India's railway is also the largest employer in the world. Steam trains and other locomotives are nostalgic reminders of a time gone by. This video, released in 1995, is in widescreen format and has a feature-film feel to it, with re-created scenes in sepia contributing to its extremely atmospheric mood. Though not a profound presentation, the video is an introduction to a fascinating railway system in a complex country. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Much More Than a Video About Steam Trains
This video is outstanding in all respects. The script, the naration, the videography, the music and the editing are all superb. One of the best National Geographic documentaries ever created. In just two hours such themes as the history of India, the politics of India, the religion of India, the geography of India, the passing of an era and growing older are skillfully and lyricly woven together with a story line that overtly explores the end of the steam era on the Indian rail system. This video be greatly enjoyed by a much broader audience than merely those steam train buffs among us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Thumbs (& a toe) Way Up!
One of my all-time favorite National Geographic videos. A journey on an Indian train is not unlike the journey of life itself - but one must be awake to the experience. If you haven't yet been experience
