When the Devil (Peter Cook) offers suicidal short-order cook Stanley (Dudley Moore) seven wishes, Stanley easily surrenders his soul. All of his wishes are granted, to the letter. Unfortunately, as each wish comes to life, the Devil--cheeky sod!--manages to slip some unexpected problem into the mix, ruining everything in a deliciously funny way. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eleanor Bron
This is not really a review, it is a complaint. Why, in all the comments on this film, is the player of the heroine, Eleanor Bron, simply ignored? This brilliantly intelligent actress turns in a series of cameos in Bedazzled, each one a gem. She seems to have faded from public consciousness despite an outstanding early career, not only with Cook and Moore, but also with the Beatles and in great theatrical roles on the London stage, like Pegeen Mike, Hedda Gabler, and the Duchess of Malfi.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic...
and it is a tragedy this is not yet out in the US on DVD (a UK R2 edition was released this last Summer)
2-0 out of 5 stars Fine picture
This picture is a "must" for Peter Cook - Dudley Moore fans. A clever plot with a lot of inserted laughs for those who know the literature on the devil e.g., "He who sups with the devil must use a long spoon". Final transformation of Moore is a feat of comic genius ... and unlike Faust, he escapes the devil's bargain. ... Read more

Editorial Review

You either love Russ Meyer's garishly sexist movies about bodacious babes and priapic men or you find them utterly disgusting. The response to his work is that clear-cut. This film, which features a screenplay by critic Roger Ebert, barely qualifies as a sequel to the film based on Jacqueline Susann's trashy bestseller. Rather, it's a broad, trashy remake on its own terms about what happens to a trio of female rock musicians when they leave the Midwest and head for Hollywood. Sex, drugs, murder--the only thing it doesn't have is cannibalism, the gold standard when it comes to trashy entertainment. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "Oh, the times, they are a-changing..."
I saw this film a year after its release and I thought it was one of the worst films that I had seen in my life. I was puzzled by its blend of rock, sex, comedy, social commentary, and over-the-top violence. It still ranks as providing me with one of the strangest moviegoing experiences that I have ever had.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
True, this movie may be strange even bad to most, but I found it hard to turn off or turn away from. There are messages and points through out this movie if you let go and take it for what it is. This is one of my favorite movies of all time so maybe I'm Bias. Overall I consider this movie to be what a true cult classic really was and is meant to be. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fun And Entertaining Horror Spoof!
This is a highly recommended film. "Tremors" is one of those type of films that is recommended for one of those relaxing and fun afternoons you just want to laugh and not take things too seriously. (Fred Ward) and his best friend (Kevin Bacon) give outstanding performances as two not-too-bright friends who happen to stumble upon a creature [much like a giant worm] that is eating their town away--literally! And not just the town, but the occupants also. This is a very recommended film. It is not gory [not too much anyhow] and the silliness is a warm and welcome relief. Further, the film is not just a horror flick in the usual sense, but horror with lot's of comedy. Fred Ward's character had me in stitches several times.
5-0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud funny
I thought this movie was hilarious. The two main characters Val and Earl were the best part. Everytime they tried to leave Perfection, something would stop them. "We just waited one day too long to leave"
5-0 out of 5 stars Great monstrous fun
TREMORS is arguably the best science-fiction/monster movie of at least the past quarter-century -- only ALIENS, a different sort of beast altogether, comes close.Avoid the sequels (you have been warned), but don't miss the perfectly written, mounted, directed, and acted original. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lets put it like it is, the end line of the movie is probably one of the best endings of any movie ever.
The movie has been reviewed. It is awesome. This is definately not a movie to miss if you are a sci fi fan and it is still as relative today as it was then. You could slap a 2006 date on it and almost get away with releasing it now.You wouldnt have to do much to it to make it seem new.All that aside. The end line of the movie makes the whole thing worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great film for its time and budget
All of the other reviews pretty much give you the lowdown on the plot, so I will stick with the core of the film. 1- Don Johnson's character is great, he does a good job, and never cops out in terms of the character's mindset. Ditto for the dog. I will say that this film has an ending that delievers, and has one of the best final lines of any film around.

2-0 out of 5 stars Campy Horror Film Falls Flat
Even though originally titled, "Andy Warhol's Dracula", this film had very little to do with Andy Warhol. Udo Kier plays a count visitng Italy to satisfy his "special diet", i.e. "virgin blood." Though the royal family's daughters seem promising, Joe Dellesandro (who uses the Andy Warhol style of "non acting")is busy making them ineligible for the Count's requirements. The count's reaction to non virgin blood (in repeat scenes) has to be among the grossest scenes in film, next to the end of Pink Flamingos. Other than that, the movie wanders, the dialogue is dull, the political conflicts unnecesary (remember this was the 70's) and parts of it are closer to soft core porn or badly acted costume drama than horror. Though not as amazingly awful as "Sins of the Fleshapoids" or Ed Wood (who has a certain charm) Blood for Dracula will leave you scratching your head one moment and then turning it away from the screen the next.

5-0 out of 5 stars squirmy psycho thriller with a pair of excellent performances
I saw this at the Seattle Film festival in '89 and thought it was quite cool. The casting of Colin Firth was a coup for the filmmakers; he projects the squirmiest sense of psychosis since Anthony Perkins. There are a series of escalatingly creepy scenes between Firth and his crazy mother. Yikes! The gay subtext between Colin Firth's character and Hart Bochner's is nicely played by both actors. I liked the fact that the film wasn't shot or set in the United States. This is a hard film to classify. Is it a serial killer thriller? sort of. Is it a psycho film like REPULSION or The Tenant? Sort of. It has a lot of layers to it and that is something i liked about Apartment Zero. Worth seeing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Glued to the Screen
Several years ago I worked at a public library and the library had this film on VHS. I was astounded at how good the movie was as I had never heard of it previously. Over the years I would reccommend it to patrons who would ask if I knew of any interesting movies. Without exception, they would always return and tell me how good the movies was, and ask if I could suggest something similar.
5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite Movie
I first saw this film at the NuArt in L.A. when it first came out. I had no idea what the movie was about, and maybe that's why I liked it so much. Going in blind, without having heard anything, made the film so much more powerful. For years, I thought about the film and then I rented it again when staying at the Paramount hotel in NY. And the film lived up to my memory. Now, that I own it, I watch this film over and over, and honestly, I'm not sure why. None of my friends like it nearly as much as I do. But there is something about the relationship between the two main characters, as well as the relationships with the people in the building that resonates with me. ... Read more

Comedy of Terrors is one of the funniest movies to come out of the 60s. My entire family just fell apart on the couch watching it. You've Vincent Price as the nasty undertaker. You have Peter Lorre as the picked on humble assistant, you've Boris Karloff as the sleepy and near deaf father in law. Oh and add Basil Rathbone as the Shakespeare loving landlord who won't stay dead and you'vean incredible piece of black comedy.

4-0 out of 5 stars The star here is Sam Fuller
This is a great war film (I saw it first in its theatrical release), and deserves to be in DVD (like "Siege of Firebase Gloria" should be.)Sam Fuller made a number of war films -- ranging in quality and budget: his last war film was "Big Red One." Fuller made "noir" war films. Knowing something about Fuller helps explain the abrupt and unsatisfying ending of "Marauders": Fuller's original ending was considered too downbeat by the Studio and was cut. A new "rah-rah" ending -- the stock footage -- was added by the Studio. I do not know if the film with Fuller's ending was ever released: I have never seen it and have never read anyone who has. Fuller's film does bear comparison with "Objective Burma," which tells almost the same story with a more fictionalized historical context. Flynn thought it was the best film he was ever in, and he was probably right. "Marauders" is a gritty war film that should be seen by everyone who enjoys the genre.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great cast, lame script, not filmed in Burma
I have to disagree with folks who like this film. The action scenes are extremely lame. Even the gunfire sounds like blanks, not real shots. The scenery could never be mistaken for Burma, it looks like, well, the Philippines! Despite earnest performances by all concerned, especially Chandler, the script goes nowhere and is merely a string of cliches. The budget must have been tight on this one, and it shows all over. The only decent music is stolen from "Objective Burma", a far superior production. It's too bad, as the cast here could have done fine with a better script and budget.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another great war movie from Sam Fuller
Merrill's Marauders is an excellent WWII movie dealing with a topic often ignored in war movies covering the Pacific Theater. In 1944, the 5307th Composite Unit, Merrill's Marauders, 3,000 seasoned jungle fighters, march into Burma with the objective of the supply depot at Walawbum and the airfield at Myitkyina. The Marauders must march across hundreds of miles of dense jungle, pushing themselves to their mental and physical limits, battling Japanese troops all the way.Like most Fuller movies, Marauders has plenty of great action scenes as the 5307th trudges across Burma.Along with the excellent battle scenes, Fuller includes several very powerful and moving scenes, specifically when the Marauders are resting in a Burmese village and are approached by the villagers. At a compact 99 minutes, Merrill's Marauders is a quick-paced, action-packed, exciting war movie from Samuel Fuller.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent example of sketch comedy!
Before the Zucker Brothers made it big with Airplane!, they created Kentucky Fried Movie. It is made of random hilarious skits that have instantly made it a cult classic since its release.I had heard about this movie from many of my friends and eventually set out and bought it.For the $10 I paid, this movie was worth every penny. It's a laughfest from start to finish. My only complaint is that the Fistful Of Yen/ Enter The Dragon parody could have been way shorter as it was a movie within a movie.I actually became very sleepy the first time I watched that scene, but I was able to snap myself out of it and enjoy the rest of the film. The only reason that this movie isn't five stars is because of the Fistful of Yen scene being too long which ruins the pace of the film and that I feel that a movie like this deserves more special features, though that does keep the price low and reasonable. If you haven't seen this and love the movies Ariplane! and Naked Gun and are a Monty Python fan, you MUST check this movie out.Hoped this helped.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Cult Classic
The first time I saw this film was back in high school, over 20 years ago.At that time we thought that this was the craziest movie we had ever seen and whoever it was who had written the script and made such an off the wall film was somewhat insane himself.Yet, we were hysterically laughing throughout the entire film.Upon watching the movie again, years later, nothing had changed.I still found myself laughing throughout the entire movie. It was just as off-beat as before. It is a great cult classic and I would definitely recommend this film to others.

Stanley Kubrick's striking visual interpretation of Anthony Burgess'sfamous novel is a masterpiece.Malcolm McDowell delivers a clever, tongue-in-cheek performance as Alex, the leader of a quartet of droogs, a vicious group of young hoodlums who spend their nights stealing cars, fighting rival gangs, breaking into people's homes, and raping women. While other directors would simply exploit the violent elements of such a film without subtext, Kubrick maintains Burgess's dark, satirical social commentary. We watch Alex transform from a free-roaming miscreant into a convict used in a government experiment that attempts to reform criminals through an unorthodox new medical treatment. The catch, of course, is that this therapy may be nothing better than a quick cure-all for a society plagued by rampant crime.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ahead of it's time, Excellent Kubrick Film
First off, this was not an easy bood to make into a movie, but Stanly Kubrick did an excellent job of doing so, not cutting out too many of the details either. This movie was way ahead of it's time, with excellent cinemetography, great acting, and excellent adaptation to script of a book that tells a tale of young Alex and his gang in a world he live raise "ultraviolence".A nice glimpse into the mind of an Antisocial.Rent this, Buy this, worth owning. One of the many of a series of Excellent Kubrick films of the 70's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Second movie in a very special trilogy.
I ama fan of Stanley Kubrick, and I can see something very special about this movie, that makes me consider this one as the second installment of a so called, by myself, "trilogy". 2001: A Space Odyssey, Clockwork Orange & The Shining, they three share a feeling of loneliness, a sense of an external consciousness who is watching, from outside the Universe, the characters in the films, there is a feeling of a paranormal environment, manifest by the lighting, the sharp contrast of colors white, blue, red and fog in some of the scenes. And, this special environment is made even more surreal by the very special soundtracks of "Atmospheres" by Gyorgy Ligeti , "Timesteps" by Wendy Carlos, or thescore in The Shining by Carlos' couple too. Perhaps these three stories are part of the intervention of the Black Monoliths on the development of Mankind...Who knows? Buy these movies, they are highly recommended.
4-0 out of 5 stars great film by kubrick but what else is new
this film is a has a very nice story about a man named alex who loves to rape woman and fighting/stealing,but that all changes when he goes to jail. then while in jail he hears about a thing that a doctor is doing to stop people from being bad. so later the doctor picks alex to be like a ginny pig for this test. he is forced to watch horrable things while hes eyes are forced open. after getting these test alex can one longer be bad because if he does he gets real sick..

Pam Grier is Friday Foster, a photographer's assistant at a glamourmagazine assigned to cover the secret arrival of a reclusive black millionaire(Thalmus Rasula). "Just get your cute little behind out there and take yourlittle pictures and goddammit don't get involved!" Of course she does: The sceneerupts into an attempted assassination, and Friday digs up a conspiracy thatreaches to Washington, D.C., and involves sassy, flamboyant fashion designerEartha Kitt, lascivious but good-at-heart minister Scatman Crothers, and apowerful black congressman. Yaphet Kotto costars as a good-natured P.I. she tagsalong as a sidekick and bodyguard, and Carl Weathers makes a strong impressionas a silent but deadly hit man systematically silencing potential witnesses. Thescript feels more like a comic book than a movie (it was inspired by a newspapercomic strip), with Grier playing Friday as a plucky, resourceful amateur, stealing cars and stalking killers armed with nothing but a fully loaded camera. She's better as the street-smart pistol-packin' mamas of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still a Whole Lotta Woman!!!
Pam Grier is smokin hot in this blaxploitation classic...and enough "Jive" dialect to keep you laughing for days!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars So-So Pam Grier Vehicle
Pam Grier is fine as the spunky photo-journalist title character and Yaphet Kotto is amusing as her P.I. sidekick helping her ferret out the "black widow" conspiracy.Their efforts are essentially for naught in this sluggishly directed actioner that has the substance of your average Spelling-Goldberg production.Lots of prominent African-American talent on hand(Eartha Kitt, Godfrey Cambridge, Scatman Crothers, etc.) but their impact is marginal. What this film needed was Sid Haig!

4-0 out of 5 stars Hey, Whatcha Doin' Girl?
Friday Foster may not be Foxy Brown, but it's well worth your time if you're into this genre. It does have a catchy little theme song!It doesn't have alot of the action and violence of other Grier films, it's more about unravelling a conspiracy.Jim Backus is given high billing, but only appears in one scene.Carl Weathers is at the bottom of the billing, but appears in most of the film-But that's a good thing, coz who doesn't like Carl Weathers?Yaphet Koto, as usual, is a joy, and actually gets a few laughs. For those like myself who occasionally fantasize coming home from work to find a naked Pam Grier in the kitchen making goulash, will enjoy the two topless scenes.Foster sure has no problem jumping into the sack with people in this one.Basically all I can say about Friday Foster is that it's a sure bet if you dig Pam Grier and/or blaxploitation movies.I know I dig. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Western, Great Acting
I love the plot in this movie. I think that Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman did superb acting jobs in this movie. I can watch this movie over and over. It is not just your regular "gunfight in town" kind of western. Gene Hackman is so talented, he plays his roles so real that the movie viewers want to hate his guts. He is so believable in any role that he plays. Leonardo Dicaprio was superb as the impressive young man wanting his overbearing father's approval. Sharon Stone seemed like she has been slinging a gun all of her life.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hard boiled Western fantasy !
The Lady, played by Sharon Stone, arrives at the small town dominated by the cruel and capricious Herod (Gene Hackman) where a quick draw contest is being held. With a series of flashbacks we see why Lady wants to enter the contest--she is a woman set on revenge.
1-0 out of 5 stars This must be a comedy.Surely it can't be serious.
I have seen this film several times and still can not figure out if it's suppose to be a comedy or a drama. If it's a comedy, it's very bad.If it is suppose to be serious, it's even worse. The characters overact and are totally unbelievable. The plot is very predictable, and the dialog, well, it must have been written by a thirteen year old, if that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic!
This is by far one of John Travolta's best performance yet. This is movie is a good represntation of the pop culture as well as the nightlife in the mid 70s. Love it or hate it, Disco was a not only a part of music history, but it was also a way of life. Many artists and group such as KC & The Sunshine Band, Donna Summer, and The BeeGees(of course!) made thier careers out of disco. Even though it was short, it made history. But Disco was all about having fun on the dance floor.
4-0 out of 5 stars cool stuff
I enjoy this movie, to see a young character initiate what will hopefully become a lifelong process of growth and development--perhaps by the side of a loving woman who's capable of continualy encouraging and motivating the guy to follow through. To see him reach that critical age and foresight that certain actions, behaviors, and old habits wont take you very far in life and that you really should have a plan in place--sort of like that chinese proverb saying something to the effect that the road of life has in it many forks, and if you dont know what you end destination is you're bound to get lost.

5-0 out of 5 stars An impressive sequel to the classic blaxploitation original
In my opinion, Scream, Blacula, Scream is every bit as good as Blacula.Rather than offering a pedestrian rehash of the whole vampirism story of the original, the sequel throws another powerful force, that of voodoo, into the mix and gives the film a whole new direction.William Marshall is just as good as before in the title role, and he meets up with a worthy possible antagonist in Pam Grier, who plays the gifted voodoo priestess he seeks out for help.Blacula, resurrected in his undead state with no further possibility of reclaiming the modern incarnation of his beloved bride, now seeks to break the curse that has made him a bloodthirsty, yet exceedingly cool, pariah on society. That doesn't mean he's not going to keep killing people and turning them into vampires in the meantime, however, so expect more jugular action as this film winds its way to a conclusi
