Editorial Review

In the fall of 1979, Sam Raimi and his merry band headed into the woods of rural Tennessee to make a movie. They emerged with a roller coaster of a film packed with shocks, gore, and wild humor, a film that remains a benchmark for the genre. Ash (cult favorite Bruce Campbell) and four friends arrive at a backwoods cabin for a vacation, where they find a tape recorder containing incantations from an ancient book of the dead. When they play the tape, evil forces are unleashed, and one by one the friends are possessed. Wouldn't you know it, the only way to kill a "deadite" is by total bodily dismemberment, and soon the blood starts to fly. Raimi injects tremendous energy into this simple plot, using the claustrophobic set, disorienting camera angles, and even the graininess of the film stock itself to create an atmosphere of dread, punctuated by a relentless series of jump-out-of-your-seat shocks. 5-0 out of 5 stars MY" EVIL DEAD "MOVIE REVIEW
Ok this review also counts for evil dead 2(cuz evil dead 2 was basicaly a remake of the first)anyways,i loved this movie i was introduced to this movie over the summer and the next day i went on all the online shops (i some how got luck and found a good deal on the movie on here, weird),and just a reminder if you dont like realy gory films dont consider watching this, but this movie is great i also noticed during the film i saw wes craven's the hills have eyes poster when they were in the basement thats probly why when in a nightmare on elm street nancy was watchin the evil dead well thats realy about it oh and if youv seen the first and wanna watch the 2nd well lets just say its basicaly a remake of the 1st (just not as chessy)but i still recommend you watch it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Horror Classic.
Even though it seems cheesy, even laughable today, there's no denying "The Evil Dead" is still a landmark moment in the horror genre. Made for virtually no budget by a group of struggling young filmmakers straight out of college, "The Evil Dead" became one of the most original films in the horror genre as well as films in general, and is still vastly entertaining today.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Real Evil Dead
No other movie has ever become such a booming sense of reality to my life than the evil dead movie/s.. Bruce Campbell is one if not my favourite actor and enjoy all his movies.. This edition is great for the commentaries on it and the extra features including Bruce's little doco on fans... a must have for all fans!!!! I am scared they are thinking of remaking this fantastic movie and I just hope Mr. Rami will realize this is a mistake... 'ASH' Rules!!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

A different sort of Sergio Leone Western, this one takes place during the Mexican Revolution, with more politics than usual. But there's still plenty of action, with Rod Steiger as a cigar-chomping peasant who robs banks to liberate political prisoners, and James Coburn as an Irish terrorist trying to flee from his bitter past. They team up to thwart a sadistic officer and help the cause; redemption for the more subdued Coburn provides added depth. 5-0 out of 5 stars Your a great grand hero of the Revolution!
A Revolution is when the people who read the books tell the people who don't read the books to fight. Where do the people who don't read the books end up ? DEAD --Juan(Rod Steiger)I recently saw the full version of this film on a cable "western" channel. I'd originally seen it on HBO in around '82 and that must have been the cut version because there were some scenes I just saw for the first time. I also don't remember the Mao quote being at the start of the film back then. I enjoyed this movie just as much almost 25 years later. I still remembered Rod steiger and James Coburns horrible accents that just seemed to make this film more fun to watch (plus it helps them that everyone else is dubbed). Leone was not confined by hollywood constrictions that require most movies to be 1:30 to 1:45 long. He made everyone of his movies in epic, over the top style--Its great that as director he was given the freedom to translate his vision to the screen. Also a great music score. I still have to lookup "The Patriotism" by Baukinan on Amazom!

4-0 out of 5 stars 2005 European release, a fully restored version
On April 18, 2005, MGM Home Entertainment(Europe)(LTD) released what is called -a fully restored edition- of A Fistful Of Dynamite (or Giu la Testa or Duck, You Sucker)(There is the claim that Sergio Leone approved of parts if not all of the restorations before he died)(However, I cannot figure out if this is a true director's cut or an approved restored version). This is a two disc set in the PAL format (USA, region 1 is formatted in NTSC). The movie is 158 min long under the PAL format (but according to one reviewer from the UK, the movie is actually 150 min, go figure: 8 minutes is a long time). The second disc contains a number of features including one describing the various versions of the movie (from its 120 min USA version up to this 158 min version). For more information, you should google (Fistful Of Dynamite MGM Home Entertainment).
3-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Fun? I think not
There is nothing funny at all about this film. The disc cover is extremely misleading, showing Steiger and Coburn as cartoon characters having a jolly time with machine guns and sticks of dynamite. This is the exact opposite of what's inside. At 2 hrs and 27 mins it is very long -- and I learn that I must have seen the cut version. I found it grindingly slow and intensely depressing, full of sadness, the sadism of civil war, regret and sorrow. All Steiger's family and friends are ruthlessly killed during the action; all Coburn's have been similarly killed before it begins. This is no joke, it is deadly serious. There is an interesting development of the two main characters in the course of the narrative, but I'm afraid it drags somewhat. The moral is dispiriting: I suppose it is that Revolution is an extremely nasty business which, although it may be thought necessary at certain junctures in a nation's political progress, probably doesn't get anyone anywhere much, except into the big sleep. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Are you Kidding?
I saw this movie as a child at the theatre.I was scared ****less!!Now, having children and grandchildren of my own,I enjoy watching those things that impressed me so much as a child. Now that there is EBAY and VCR's, I bought a copy of The Mask.It even had a pair of 3-D glasses inside.I like to watch this show when I'm home alone.

3-0 out of 5 stars I remember the whole theatre screaming...
...during this movie's infamous 3-D dream sequence. What made the matter worse is that the theatre was unnecessarily freezing: they could have turned on the heat, but I guess they were going for that William Castle thing... You were supposed to slap on your glasses as the hero was putting on the mask. I recall skulls with melting eyeballs, druids rowing down the river Styx, murderous looking events in these dream sequences...I must've been 7 or 8 at the time so I was indelibly marked. What also made matters worse is that my olders brothers were laughing about me being scared spitless...nowadays since every kid of 7 or 8 has been treated to the likes of Freddy and Jason, it wouldn't even cause a shiver to youngsters. I believe, however, it would be still fun, to kids nonetheless.

5-0 out of 5 stars this film kicked ass
western fans, you'll love this film. the other reviews where they're saying this film is dull just didn't watch it right. the gun fight at the end is so awesome. Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea give moving performances and the outlaws are so dirty and evil. Peckinpah's direction is great, all the great landscapes in the film are beautiful. it's a must see!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars They don't come any sweeter than this one!
What a beautiful movie. The acting was superb especially the two aging lead actors. The story was great showing that change is inevitable and you can't go backward no matter how hard you try. The western as a genre was always about the INDIVIDUAL and the choices he makes, and that is the reason, I think, for its continuing appeal.

4-0 out of 5 stars A first-rate western with magnificent scenery

2-0 out of 5 stars The videos are not what they seem
Remember those homemade tapes you had of the series when it aired originally? Unless your cable went on the fritz or you forgot to hit the record button after the commercial break, the copies were good enough to satisfy your cravings for cherry pie, a cup of joe and the whole wacky Twin Peaks gang.Hopefully you never lost them but if you did...Hurray! Because someone found your copies and dubbed them and over dubbed them and packaged them into this really poor quality set from some company called "Worldvision" A company who likes to re-sell garbage from your curb back to you. If you're desperate like me, don't have a DVD player, and are wary of e-bay, this unfortunately is your only alternative.

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning - Garbage Alert - Peakers Beware
Geez, $$$ for 5 episodes sounds like a bargain huh?Don't fall for it.I love Twin Peaks, but I was shocked to see how [bad] the quality is.I was dumb enough to buy the entire series in this 6 hour format, so it took a little while before I got to watch enough to see how horrible the quality is.I am surprised to see that they are still selling this.I am hopeful that the series will be available on DVD in the future and if it is I hope they do a decent job of digital remastering.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE FASCINATING WORLD OF DAVID LYNCH....
THE SERIES LOSES A LITTLE BIT AS IT TRIES TO FIND A NEW DIRECTION POST-LAURA PALMER. BUT THERE ARE PLENTY OF GREAT MOMENTS AND DAVID DUCHOVNY (EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT AN X-FILES FAN) STEALS PRETTY MUCH EVERY SCENE HE IS IN. ALSO, THE SERIES TAKES ON AN INTERESTING QUALITY RIGHT ABOUT HERE -- MORE HUMOR AND LIGHT-HEARTED MOMENTS. BUT I COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT THE FLIRTATION WITH SPACEMEN. 2-0 out of 5 stars Doubtful
Blade Runner didn't do much justice for me. There's something missing or wrong with the theatrical and the 1991 DC versions. I will give this movie another chance when it comes out next year. I hope Mr. Scott will give its proper cut.

4-0 out of 5 stars "I just do eyes!"
Really enjoyed the setting, atmosphere of this movie. A dark, dirty city overcrowded with people and trash (although I thought there would be more flying cars), and huge electronic billboards, such as the Asian woman in the makeup of a geisha that we see repeatedly. It's kind of eerie when the billboards travel over the city on those slow-moving vehicles, invading peoples' homes with their light. The rundown mansion-type house in the final scenes kind of reminded me of the castle from "Beauty and the Beast", strangely enough.
5-0 out of 5 stars "IT'S NOT AN EASY THING TO MEET YOUR MAKER"
Set in a grim Los Angeles of the future, many of earth's inhabitants have migrated to other planets. Roy, the replicant leader has returned to earth, but he, like the other replicants, is scheduled to die. His four years are almost up, for him soon it will be `time to die'. The greater part of his tragedy is that he lives life hyper-aware of his death. A death which is decreed to the day by his maker. He is made by the Tyrell Corporation as a product, a being who looks human but having extra-human powers, but with sub-human emotions as he will not live long enough to build up a soul of true humanity. The Tyrell replicants are too powerful to be allowed to run loose---on earth or elsewhere---so they have a fail-safe built into them: they are designed to fail after four short years of life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Campy Fun
From the retrospective included on the disc you get the impression that star Angie Dickinson thought she was making high art.I'm not so sure Roger Corman thought so.The film seems to have a split personality.Stars Dickinson, Tom Skerritt, and William Shatner play their characters pretty straight to the vest. The script, however, suggests a parody of "Bonnie and Clyde" with alot of comic violence and gunplay and humorously gratuitous nudity.I did enjoy the contributions of the young actresses playing Dickinson's daughters, Susan Sennett and Robbie Lee.I purchased this film expecting some trashy fun and it did deliver the goods.

4-0 out of 5 stars Prosperity was just around the corner...at the nearest bank!
Big business can make for strange bedfellows as is the case here, with the recently re-released film Big Bad Mama (1974).Seems not too long ago The Walt Disney Corporation, through their Buena Vista Home Entertainment group, acquired the rights to release onto DVD some 400 Roger Corman films, including this one...if you're not familiar with Roger Corman, he probably the single, largest producer of low-budget exploitation films in the last 50 years, features someone generally wouldn't associate with the Walt Disney image.Produced by Corman, co-written by William W. Norton (White Lightning, I Dismember Mama) and Frances Doel (Deathsport, DinoCroc), and directed by Steve Carver (Lone Wolf McQuade), the film stars Angie Dickinson, who first made an impression on me as Sgt. Suzanne "Pepper" Anderson in the mid to late 1970s television series "Police Woman".Also appearing is William `The Shat' Shatner ("Star Trek", Kingdom of the Spiders), Tom Skerritt (MASH, Alien), Susan Sennett (The Candy Snatchers), Robbie Lee (Switchblade Sisters), Noble Willingham (The Last Picture Show), Dick Miller (X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes), Tom Signorelli (The Cotton Club), Royal Dano (Killer Klowns from Outer Space), William O'Connell (Every Which Way But Loose), and Joan Prather, whom some may remember from the television series "Eight Is Enough", as Janet McArthur Bradford.
3-0 out of 5 stars A message to 'A viewer'
I feel like a fraud, because I have not recently seen this film.I just wanted to let 'a viewer' in Stockton know that I knew Robbie Lee [actress playing Polly] in 1972.I was almost 13 and in 7th grade, and she was just out of high school. So I would guess she was close to 20 [give or take a year] when this film was made. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not weird but super weird
Saw this one on television. Still trying to figure what it might be. Perhaps this is a Monty Python spoof os some kind that somebody forgot to insert the comedy. Diolog is so stilted and awful in most scenes a mute button comes well in handy. Costume for the region and period is good as is the scenery but not much else.

This review begins with the question you should be asking. Why isn't this film available in the US anymore? Hmm, can't imagine.

americans sponsor some guys who go into a central american country to bring 'universal sufferage' and to provide 'stability'.sound familiar?walker is a tale of megolmania and ahistorical vertigo with surrealist parallels to the modern era.it's an amusing black comedy, about equal parts sergio leone and luis bunuel. the dim and sarcastic view of american imperial behavior and myth making did not endear this film to most critics, especially the anti-intellectual, anti-art, pro 'entertainment' hacks (like a ceratain oft-quoted movie/video critic who shall remain nameless (wink, wink)). but for the rest of us, especially those with a skeptical view of offical history, walker is both funny and frightening, with great characterizations by ed harris, peter boyle, rene auberjunois, miguel sandoval and yes, marlee matlin. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic performance by Christian Bale brings a disturbing character to life.
"An American Psycho" is one of those films that people seem to find very difficult to come to grips with. Is it a masterpiece deserving of praise? Is it a completely boring, insensitive piece of sick trash? Or is it something in between? Through all this argument though, there is one thing that cannot be denied. That this film will provoke a reaction from the viewer whether it is feelings of disgust, praise, amusement, unease or all of the above. Well, unless of course the viewer is in a similar state of mind as Patrick Bateman that is.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, excellent twist on a serial killer movie
This movie adaptation of the classic Bret Easton Ellis book is a very cool take on American culter in the 80's, and on serial killers.Funny, at times scary, and full of thrills and a twist, this movie has it all.Christian Bale was excellent and with good reason made this a breakthrough role for him.If you liked "Less Than Zero" and "Rules Of Attraction" (all Ellis books/films), you will like this movie.Who knew that the awful fashions of the 80's and the arrogance of wall street could bring so much dark humor.Worth any price you pay to see this.
4-0 out of 5 stars Bale Brilliantly Nails The Role OfA Narcissistic Yuppie Nut
In this film version of Brett Easton Ellis' often misunderstood satiric novel, the question of Bateman's real versus imaginary deeds is answered more firmly than Ellis allowed to happen in the book. Here, seemingly, at least some if not all of Patrick Bateman's violence apparently came to pass only in the space between the sick (though impeccably fashionable) Yuppie's ears. In this flashy, stylish and yet somehow still laudably low-key adaptation of a novel once thought unfilmable, Christian Bale doesa superb job of embodying a self-loving, celebrity-obsessed, brand name worshipping billionaire playboy, who tells us in lingering detail how he just happens to slay random people in his spare time. Bale trades his native Welsh accent for a polished snooty high society American one, and his comedic narcissism is refreshing in comparison with how so many other actors would have played this daunting role. The extended "cut" of American Psycho restores some of the nudity and a little of the violence left out in the theatrical release six years ago. What has never been removed is the dark humor and blistering satire that skewers the late 1980's love of excess. Fine performances abound in American Psycho, from the always magnificent Willem Dafoe, to Reese Witherspoon as Patrick's bubble-brained fiancée, to a downtrodden Chloe Sevigny as Bateman's loyal secretary, to Samantha Mathis as a pill popping "hotbod" whose dead-end drug addiction amuses the sadistic Bateman. Filmmaker Mary Harron, who also gave us the bleak nineties art-flick, I Shot Andy Warhol, packs a lot into the relatively short run time of this movie, and in my opinion, she did a pretty fine job with some difficult material. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars you know nothing about Tuco
One of Leone's most memorable flicks,Clint Eastwood reprises his role for the third time as the man with no name,or Blondie,in this flick. In this installment,a kind of Rat Race-type situation occurs where a lone ranger,a robber, and a baddie get involved in a plot to get $50,000 first. There begind a perilous journey of betrayal, murder, and revenge.I especially like the character Tuco, with his quick, fast wit and hillarious habits,it's hard not to laugh.Lee Van Clef is also brilliant as angel Eyes, the baddie in the flick who tries to take out Blondie and Tuco. It's a roller coaster ride to the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Misunderstood and Understated 90's Film
I've always loved over-the-top films, in terms of acting, plot twists & turns, etc.The only problem?I don't know that the movie I just watched and adored was campy until someone else tells me as such.So was the case with "Showgirls", a movie I had heard so much bashing about that I was to the point where I couldn't believe it would be as bad as so many had previously labeled it.The surprise: I was right.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is great movie
I have seen the movie several times & I love it. It is in my top 15 movies.
4-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous
The film itself includes a hysterical commentary by David Schmader called the greatest movie ever made, plus a pop-up trivia track that offers juicy insights such as Elizabeth Berkley's total time in the film spent naked. The rest of the box includes a collection of party games such as pin the pasties on the stripper and a pair of shot glasses and game instructions for various Showgirls-themed drinking games. It's almost as ridiculous as the movie itself.Highly recommended.Showgirls is fun

They say that this sequel surpassed it's original. From watching this movie that aint achieving much! All the kids talk about is the "corn".They only good things about the movie are Lacy and Angela.they are damn HOT!One of them even has a sex scene.

5-0 out of 5 stars Genius!
God, I love this kind of stuff.Basically, Children of the Corn II is cheap, gory, and loads of fun. It's also well-made, too... the effects are pretty good (not anything amazing but they more then get the job done). This film contains buckets of blood, gotta love that nose-bleed scene!'Final Sacrifice' also contains a great score by Daniel Licht and has a fairly morbid sense of humor (What a World!).Overall, the complete package for a great time at the movies... dripped in blood, of course.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not one of the best horror films, but it still needs praise!
Who can ever forget the gloomy classic "Children of the corn" with its dark, beautiful, and gloomy melody and of course...it WILL make you laugh...because it promises more guffaws then terror. Micah, the new leader which is a shame for the Isaac fans, is showing his world from his eyes...but with a demonic demon possessing him and trying to regain followers which loses the almost flawless purpose of the film. It takes a turn here, as all Stephen King films usualy do and it is actually a "Disease" that Micah and the children are being possessed by, and He who Walks Behind The Rows does play a small role...note, small role. Same point to the original as the novel where Stephen King gave out his rough draft to the masses. A few reviewers here say-well a few who watched it and me-that COTC 2 was one of the few films in the history of COTC lore that was intelligent(ish), innovative, dark, and moody, with addictive dialogue, dark melodies, and so-so screenwriting, and from us, got the commercial success that it got. I consider this COTC classic as the best example of brilliant and Macabre movie getting the justice and recognition that it somehow deserves! I give it a two big thumbs up! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Admirably dark film about violence and a cast of unlikeable characters
Sam Peckinpah, the legendary Hollywood director as famous for his drinking and fights as he is for his films, made his first non-Western with "Straw Dogs."In this movie, filmed in the rustic windblown countryside of Cornwall, Peckinpah makes marriage look as ugly and violent as the Wild West ever could. 5-0 out of 5 stars Blown Away
Dustinf Hoffman was very good, and the final scenes of the movie were exciting and thrilling to watch.

Editorial Review

Psychological terrorism and supernatural horror have rarely been dramatized as effectively as in this classic 1968 thriller, masterfully adapted and directed by Roman Polanski from the chilling novel by Ira Levin. Rosemary (Mia Farrow) is a young, trusting housewife in New York whose actor husband (John Cassavetes), unbeknownst to her, has literally made a deal with the devil. In the thrall of a witches' coven headquartered in their apartment building, the young husband arranges to have his wife impregnated by Satan in exchange for success in a Broadway play. To Rosemary, the pregnancy seems like a normal and happy one--that is, until she grows increasingly suspicious of her neighbors' evil influence. Polanski establishes this seemingly benevolent situation and then introduces each fiendish little detail with such unsettling subtlety that the film escalates to a palpable level of dread and paranoia. By the time Rosemary discovers that her infant son "has his father's eyes" ... well, let's just say the urge to scream along with her is unbearably intense! One of the few modern horror films that can claim to be genuinely terrifying, Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This Is No Dream! This Is Really Happening!
Rosemary's Baby is Roman Polanski's 1968 horror landmark based on Ira Levin's novel, published a year earlier. Polanski's first American film is said to be very faithful to the source material and is often his most popular work among mainstream audiences.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good, eerie movie!
This is a horror classic. It's worth all the hype and still stands the test of time. This is a thinking-person's horror movie. It's very frighening in an intellectual way but it's still a good all-around scare. I like the occassional in-your-face horror flick but this is not one of those. Still, if you watch closely, it's horribly frigh
