5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Greatest Movies Ever
Terry Gilliam is my favorite director and here he is at his best. At first the movie just seems like a dark comedy but as you watch later on you realize the absolute genius and how close this is to reality. Even if you don't really understand Brazil(and I don't quite understand it either) you can still admire the amazing art in the film and just some of the amazing visuals.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ehm...what the hell?!
This is the sort of movie where if you go "nah, didn't really like it" people will just say that you didn't get it as if you're some sort of moron, who's incapable of comprehending a movie with a more complex plot than Star Wars. The movie does have a couple of upsides (that's why I gave it 2 instead of 1 star) namely Michael Palin and the stunning visuals. The rest is dismal at best. The movie is way too long and I felt no connection to the characters whatsoever. I also don't think that Gilliam is some sort of visionary for creating this movie...does the # "1984" ring a bell? Now that was a visionary book while this is a halfhearted attempt to copy it (along with some personal additions here and there).
1-0 out of 5 stars An exercise in futility of conveying message

3-0 out of 5 stars Ho ho ho!
Director Ken Russell has never been accused of understatement, and this in-your-face character study of a jaded streetwalker is no exception. Theresa Russell chews major scenery in the lead role. The film has been misunderstood by viewers who miss the black comic undertones (I find it interesting that in 2006, no one blinks at Amy Sedaris' broad portrayal of a 42 year-old ex-hooker going back to high school on Comedy Central's "Strangers With Candy", but we still have reviewers tsk-tsking over Russell's 1991 treatment of the subject!) There are pacing issues that betray the story's stage play origins. Russell's character addresses the audience throughout, making the story a bit "talky" at times. In fact, characters in the film spend much more time TALKING about sex than actually engaging in it! Definitely a cult item. Currently not available on DVD, but used VHS copies can tracked down. Beware of the butchered "R" rated prints; the uncut "European" version contains 7 extra minutes (the excised scenes are actually tame by current standards). A note to my fellow reviewer regarding Ms. Russell's marital status: She is NOT married to Ken Russell, but to director Nicholas Roeg.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hellish camp or campy hell?
This film is self-defeated by two opposing currents: it's much too silly and poorly acted to be taken seriously, much too sad and brutal to be considered good campy fun. I don't know what effect the makers were shooting for, but suffice to say that their aim was off by miles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
I think all of you are missing the point here. This film is first and foremost funny! It comes off all serious and trying to be "hip" (for 91' that is). I think my favorite part is when she gets stopped by two bike police and she makes fun of them saying, "What do you want me to do? Run alongside your bike? Or were you just going to cuff me to your spoke?" Defiantely makes me want to see "Whore 2"! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The elusive dreams !
Cable Hogue is the most poetic film of an epic filmmaker as Peckinpah was. This is the portrait of human being who will make the best he can in order to achieve his personal bliss, far from the madding crowd. Intense, lyric and heartfelt rendition of the most representative North American genre: The Western considered as a mythic universe.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
The ballad of Cable Houge was an excellent movie. At times it is funny, heartwarming, and sometimes sad. Aside from it's entertaining value, there are other elements that make it somewhat of an epic. So if inclined, you could value this film as an entertaining movie, or also appreciate it for it's symbolism. Also of mention are the memorable performances by the actors, and (as the the special features reveal) the dedication put forth by the director, photographers, writers, and crew. I highly recommend.

Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie are rich, beautiful, and oh-so chic as denizens of the night. Dressed in sleek outfits and stylish sunglasses, they haunt rock & roll clubs on the prowl for young blood, whom they bring home to their impossibly luxurious mansion for a late-night snack.Being a vampire never looked more sexy, but there's a price: Bowie starts to age so fast he wrinkles up in the waiting room of a doctor's (Susan Sarandon) office. 3-0 out of 5 stars It Went Downhill
I wasn't really expecting much, I just wanted to check out David Bowie, but to my surprise, the movie actually started out interesting. I was really excited when Bowie's character, John started to age right before our eyes as he waited for Dr. Roberts in the hospital. Unfortunately, I was interrupted by a phone call just as Dr. Roberts came to visit Miriamto enquire about John. When I resumed, lo and behold, Miriam and Dr. Roberts started going at it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Retro-Vampire-Film Noire
A fine retro vampire film-noire movie with absolut great cast. The extraordinariest movie of Susan Sarandon, Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie!

4-0 out of 5 stars A haunting film.
There are so many similarities, borderline rip-offs of Blade Runner, yet The Hunger achieves an ethereal sense of horror that it can call its own. It is a magnificent achievement, and one of the essential early 80s hyper-stylized films. It is too bad that the story is so vague, and that we could not delved deeper into the subtext of its twisted pathos. ... Read more

Billy the Kid is reimagined by director Sam Peckinpah as a kind of Old West rock star, a young man who wants to do his own thing but constantly runs up against the objections of the establishment--in this case, the cattle barons who run this part of the country. Peckinpah indulged in some quirky casting, including Bob Dylan as an outlaw named Alias and most of Kristofferson's band as Billy's gang. He also draws exceptional performances out of a cast of old veterans, including James Coburn as the reluctant Pat Garrett, R.G. Armstrong, Katy Jurado, and Slim Pickens, who has a terrific death scene to Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." Look for this longer version (122 minutes); the shorter version is the one that MGM recut against Peckinpah's wishes, removing all the character development and Peckinpah's elegiac sense of the Old West in favor of action and violence. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece That Can't Seem To Escape Controversy
I am very conflicted in praise for this special edition.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ranks with "The Shootist" for "Best Ever Western"
Sheriff Colin Baker's (Slim Pickens) death with his wife (Katy Jurado) by him stunned me.I had heard "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" hundreds of times, but now, with Bob Dylan singing the ballad in the background, it truly made me feel what was going between these two excellent actors.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tale of the Christ
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid is one of the darkest of films; death and loss seem to pervade every scene. The film mourns the death of the western film (it is the last great western), the end of the frontier period, and is the last film of many western actors.

Natalie Wood and Gene Kelly make a cute (if not exactly convincing)couple in this Hollywood soap-opera version of Herman Wouk's coming-of-ageromance. French/Russian Natalie Wood is decidedly non-ethnic as MarjorieMorgenstern, the starry-eyed Jewish college girl who falls in love with summerresort small-timer Gene Kelly (who never quite sells himself as a show-bizdreamer with limited talent). A stolid mix of modern, clear-eyed romance andold-fashioned melodrama, it nonetheless manages to slip in some frank (for 1958)discussions of sex and the single girl and sketch out an intriguing portrait ofJewish life in New York's upper crust between the romantic complications.Everett Sloane and Claire Trevor are excellent as Marjorie's success-obsessedparents, pre-Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars High-Grade Curd
Never read the book and, after seeing this, had a hard time imagining why anyone ever did. That said, this misbegotten saga of a Jewish teenager trying to crash show biz (think That Girl with bar mitzvahs) is a semi-forgotten Cheese Fest of the highest order, a real treat for bad-movie buffs who've grown weary of Jackie Susann and Ross Hunter movies. See Natalie Wood spew "You rotten tramp!" to two-timing Gene Kelly. See miscast Gene acting his toupee off during a hissy fit with some Broadway producers. And see wise-cracking Carolyn Jones waltz off with the whole show in the inexplicable role of Marjorie's slutty galpal, a knockout who's somehow unable to hook anyone better than Jesse White (The Maytag Repairman). Vintage Brie gone horribly, odiforously, delectably wrong!

3-0 out of 5 stars So Bad It's Good
My wife and I laughed so hard we GUFFAWED at this sublime example of cheesy 1950s film-making at its cheesiest. Gene Kelly blowing his stack at a trio of Broadway producers is so off-the-wall and over-the-top it's worth the price of admission by itself; all that's missing is his stepping out of character at the end of the scene and exclaiming "ACTING!" a la SNL's classic "Master Thespian" gag. We truly did not want this movie to end -- and never for a moment believed it was what Herman Wouk had in mind. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A worthy sequel
I just saw Dawn of the Dead for the first time. I actually saw the remake first, which I liked. And, of course, I've seen the terrifying Night of the Living Dead many, many times and will probably see it again this Halloween. So going in, Dawn of the Dead was a little behind the eight ball, so to speak. But considering the large number of preconceived notions I had regarding the film, I did enjoy it and would recommend it. A con and a pro:
5-0 out of 5 stars The Shopping Mall is filled with flesh-eating zombies.
With the success of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968), a must-see for every horror movie buff, George A. Romero, 11 years later, in 1979, made a sequel, DAWN OF THE DEAD (1979) in living color (and dead too). This time, he could really be bloody and gruesome.
5-0 out of 5 stars That scene with the biker in the mall...
The single most horrid, gory, bloody, gutty scene ever in a zombie movie that I know of, and it deserves a play-by-play:

5-0 out of 5 stars Vincent Price is the master
This film could be classified as a fantasy adventure with horror elements when you factor in Robur's wish to end all war. His method? He'll simply fly over oceans and seas in his airship Albitraus and bomb war ships until all war has stopped. Vincent plays Robur in this mad-cap film that begins with a history of aviation. Henry Hull is cast as a cynical judge and the great Charles Bronson is cast as a mysterious passenger who appears to be Robur's accompolice... but looks can be deceiving. Mary Webster and David Frankham play the other "prisoners". David's character isn't likable and you'd wish that Vincent or Charles would throw him off the Albitraus!! I was very encouraged during the opening sequence of this movie. The opening scene involves the unique and horrifying execution of an apparent witch. But then we are quickly off to the land of 18th century carriages and castles. There are some amazingly chilling visuals and the cinematography and production design are first rate. But the story and the godawful dubbing are what ultimately sinks this movie.Call it heresy, but this movie is over-rated.

3-0 out of 5 stars For those too shy to buy hardcore pornography
Zalman King makes "erotic" movies, by which I mean he has relatively good-looking white people groping at each other and fancy angles that don't show any of the good stuff. This softcore porn is the sort of crud they broadcast on cheap cable networks. Usually they star Shannon Tweed or other C-list actresses who were hot-lookin' in their 20s and aged badly but still need work. The films are often labeled "erotic thrillers" because there is a pretense of mystery or danger. They are made for paunchy, aging, balding white men who can't get a date and lack the gonads to go to the hardcore porno shop and get some decent material for their Onanism sessions. Poor suckaz.
4-0 out of 5 stars Two Moon Junction - Guilty-Pleasure List Worthy
This one is on my guilty-pleasure list. It's a soft-core romance/drama, 1988, starring Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks fame) and Richard Tyson (the dad in Kindergarten cop). Sherilyn plays a southern belle from a wealthy family, engaged to Martin Hewitt - hmm, I'm remembering him with Brooke Shields in Endless Love with the same-named theme song - the approved rich boy. She winds up having a torrid fling with Richard and ultimately has to choose between what is right for her heart, or maybe just loins, and what her family has endorsed. Her grandmother is played by Louise Fletcher (an older, sophisticated and very platinum Nurse Ratchet from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest!). Burl Ives is the Sheriff assigned to break up the lovers. Kristy McNichol is all grown up and makes an appearance vying for Richard's attention too.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'RAISING ARIZONA' a comedy beyond 'any'
Raising Arizona is one of my favourite comedies of all time. Nic Cage & Holly Hunter work well together. They are two of my favourites as well. The film never gets boring. It is full of low IQs, surprising twists and non-stop humour. The film is supported by John Goodman and Trey Wilson who do a great job as two escaped convictes who crashes at Nic & Holly crib.

The Helpful Part:Actor Clint Eastwood and director Sergio Leone team up once again after the success of "A Firstful of Dollars."This movie is often mistakenly considered a sequel to the first film, but that's not the case.Eastwood is playing a different (though similar) character with a different name (he's Monco here and Joe in the first film).Gian Maria Volonte is also playing a different role, though he is still a bad guy.

Director Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner) solemnly alerts us to the glory that was Spinal Tap in his introduction to this "rockumentary" about the legendary British heavy-metal group, featuring lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), lead singer David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), bassist Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), and a succession of drummers whose careers were cut short by spontaneously combusting on their stool, drowning in somebody else's vomit, or otherwise perishing in untimely fashion. How to be a part of real Rock History without being a musician, singer, producer or someone in the music business? Answer: Make a movie as this one. Almost every serious Rock fan and rock star must have seen this movie or if they haven't, they had better see it before they go out and give another interview. Believe me, there are bands and performers who still talk and give interviews like Spinal Tap did in this movie. This movie is made for these guys. Like me, if you have watched countless interviews of rockstars, popstars and movie stars you cannot do without this classic. The Lead guitarist was my favourite. I could give him an Oscar for his brilliant performance. If Jimmy Page used a bow on his guitar you must wait and see what the lead guitarist ofSpinal Tap does.
