5-0 out of 5 stars Brandon Lee, The Crow
Brandon Lee was able to weave a strange little tapestry of vengeance, love, hate and sorrow as the title character, The Crow and as Eric Draven leaving me with the impression that, had he lived, this would likely have been his ticket to stardom.Instead it served as the epitaph for a great man from a revered family.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
This is an incredible action movie by any standard. It captures ugly acts by ugly people in an ugly city in the rain - but does it beautifully.
5-0 out of 5 stars Proyas' breakout film is a triumph.
I was one of the people who read James O' Barr's graphic novel long before the movie was released. The novel really struck a nerve in me and touched me in a way no other book, comic or otherwise, has yet to do. When I heard a movie was coming out based on O' Barr's Crow I was both skeptical and hopeful. Luckily my expectations for a movie to respect the original did not fall short with The Crow.

5-0 out of 5 stars US version is better, except for the title
I've seen the UK version of this film, with its original (and better) title, "Witchfinder General", and frankly, I prefer the US version. This has better music plus Vincent Price's intro and outro, which one misses when viewing the UK version. Great film, an outright masterpiece of British cinema, and, hands down, Vincent Price's finest performance on film EVER. I've seen this cult classic many times and never tire of it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Watch this for Vincent Price's performance.
Witchfinder General is a cult brittish film that was a huge success during its release in 1968, the film shows us the vicous and cruel general Matthew Hopkins played amazingly by Vincent Price and is also based on a real character in 17th century England, he would torture and execute people thinking that they might be witches just like in the film he would roam from village to village on his horse with his assistant looking for witches during the English cival war and he would get payed for this from the town residents. The film also stars Ian Ogilvy as a young soldier and Hilary Dwyer as his wife, unfortunetly Matthew Hopkins stumbles upon the monastery that Hilary's character lives with a priest who is her uncle I think although I forgot, anyway Matthew Hopkins ends up taking the priest on claims that he practices black magic, Hilary Dwyer's character then knows that the whole thing is absurd so she decides to save the priest by having a one night stand with Hopkins in order for them to release him, but something goes wrong and she gets raped and the priest is still held captive at the hands of Hopkins to be tortured untill he confeses and then gets executed. When the young soldier returns and finds out he soon seeks revenge on Matthew Hopkins while deserting his post in the army. The film in its uncut form contains alot of graphic and vicious torture scenes there is also some burnings and hangings and brief nudity so if you can't handle this sort of thing then watch something else. The film also has probably one of vincent's best performances so its definently worth having for that reason. I thought that the film was good although some of the actors were overacting by screaming hystericaly which was hilarious and some parts were kind of lame like Matthew's escape from the soldiers but otherwise it had a great and entertaining story.

3-0 out of 5 stars The original is better
"The Conqueror Worm" is the American title of "Witchfinder General," which was sold -- deceitfully -- by American International as part of the Edgar Allan Poe cycle (a dubbed-in recitation of Poe's poem "The Conqueror Worm" by Vincent Price is its only connection). While "Conqueror Worm" contains all of the picture elements of the available British version (though the version released to theatres in 1968 was even more graphic in the torture scenes), the superlative music score by Paul Ferris did not make the transition and was replaced by an initially pleasing, but quickly repetitive and inadequate synthesizer theme (in some scenes the music simply runs out, then starts over again like its on a loop).Even so, this grim historical thriller features one of Vincent Price's all time best performances as Matthew Hopkins, a powerful man with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.Price was not so much directed by Michael Reeves as goaded by him (Reeves really wanted Donald Pleasence for the role and was bitter over having Price forced on him by AIP).But Price acquiesced and managed to keep the twinkle out of his eye and his tongue out of his cheek, and the result is ferociously evil.In addition, the settings and costumes are so authentic that you will believe you are really watching the 17th century play out before you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Funny
When I watch MST3K, I'm always struck by how much I would rather be watching ANY of the movies it ridicules, than watching it ridicule them. There's nothing I find more pathetic than people (generally those incapable of creating any significant works of their own) sneering at the creations of others... often simply because those creations are perhaps not of the first rank in some technical way. Green Slime, despite the jeers of the jaded, is really a decent movie on its own terms, that displays a courage that rises far above its obviously limited budget, and which deserves a far more respectful reception. Sure, this is "merely" space opera... but space opera gleefully reduced to the archetypal essentials: the square-jawed hero, the beautiful (but capable) heroine, the melodramatic conflict between former buddies... and, of course, the hideous (and, yes, rubbery) green monster to stir it all up. Turn off your superior, hyper-critical faculties for a few minutes, and you'll find nothing here that isn't given great reverence in productions like Star Trek (especially TOS). Yes, the production values are on the "cheesy" side... but the film overcomes that trivial limitation by its sheer gusto. (Wonderfully exemplified by the effervescent title song.) This is a movie that isn't afraid to do what it does, and it's enormously enjoyable because of that. Don't be fooled into missing the fun by those who simply don't get it, and would rather scoff at something they don't understand. I give it a well-earned 3 stars: a fine effort in a genre that clearly won't appeal to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars "the green slime" is just what the doctor ordered for cheesey sci-fi fun
this is the story of a comit about to strike the earth. to save mankind the space force sends wax figure robert horton(star of t.v,'s wagon train, and looking just like a wax figure ,not one hair out of place and a face that looks like it would crack if he smiled to much) into space to gamma 3 space station to command a group to blow up the comit. of corse the station is commanded by old best friend now enemy richard jeckel. after they blow up the comit and get back to gamma 3 the monster of the title comes into play.
5-0 out of 5 stars green slime your time away
this movie isn't as bad as somepeople would have you belive!! Sure the effects are bad, sure the acting is "uggg", and sure the leading man looks like a wax figure, but if you let it this movie is a blast to watch. The theme song is priceless and worth the price alone. turn off your mind and let it "slime" you!! ... Read more

For a couple of hours in 1990, David Lynch took over the network airwaves and subtly, subversively transformed American television forever. Amazingly, the TV series that followed this rich and strange feature-length pilot became an international phenomenon as people all over the world became obsessed by one question: Who killed Laura Palmer? 5-0 out of 5 stars This is the Best Show That has EVER been on Television.
Mindblowing...mezmerizing...incredible. This is the best show that has ever been on television.

5-0 out of 5 stars Laura Palmer is dead . . . wrapped in plastic . . .
I am taking a trip to the Seattle area this week and decided that I wanted to have lunch at the Great Northern Hotel, owned by Benjamin Horne (est. 1927).The hotel, which offers its guests a spectacular view of Whitetail Falls, is located slightly north of Twin Peaks, just below the base of Black Lake. The Great Northern is actually the Salish Lodge, perched on a hillside just above Snoqualmie Falls. To prepare myself for the experience, and to indoctrinate my oldest daughter into yet another cult television show, we watched the first season of "Twin Peaks" together starting with the two hour pilot episode that originally aired Sunday, April 8, 1990 on ABC.Fifteen years later, this pilot episode written by Mark Frost ("Hill Street Blues") and David Lynch ("Blue Velvet") still stands up.
4-0 out of 5 stars Start here.
This is pretty much what any fan of the show or David Lynch needs to start with. It's the original movie/pilot, and is a great piece of work. The story, the characters, and the whole northwest environment really make for an interesting and sometimes creepy watch. Many cool actors showed up in "Twin Peaks", among them Kyle McLachlan, Lara Flynn-Boyle, Sheryl Lee, Jack Nance, and the sexy Sherilyn Fenn. If you enjoy this, seek out the VHS collectors series, episodes 1-7. Or the DVD first season, which is also episodes 1-7, minus this pilot. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Furious, violently bombastic, terribly unsettling, Ken Russell's 1970 biography of Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky (Richard Chamberlain) is a portrait of artistic brilliance beset by the Russian composer's mounting guilt over, well, everything: his homosexuality, his marriage to the increasingly miserable and mad Nina (Glenda Jackson), his hidden attraction to Count Anton Chiluvsky (Christopher Gable), and his suggestively incestuous relations witha sister while growing up. Consumed by his art to the point of explosiveness, Tchaikovsky has increasing difficulty coping with his life, finding some solace in the distant love proffered by his rich patroness (who refuses tomeet him but communicates her feelings through letters). Russell intends the film to be a bumpy and harsh ride that descends into grotesque tragedy as Nina is confined to a monstrous asylum and Tchaikovsky becomes ill. Still, there are a few of the usual pop-surreal sequences of which the director is so fond, most memorably a loony visual accompaniment for the Read more

That is really a somewhat americanization of my polish/baltic heritage...'to your good health'!Tip back your head and swallow down a nice fat shot of (w)vodka as you begin to drink in the absolute wonder of this mind blowing ride in Ken Russell's vision!I too,as so many others have said, am at a total loss as to why this has not yet made it to dvd!I have a pirated copy I taped from (I think it was either Cinemax or HBO) and am lucky I caught at least that! The tape is sealed in airtight plastic as are a few other gems I happened by that I'm also waiting for on dvd. DO NOT MISS!

3-0 out of 5 stars For Ken Russell loyalists, a worthy film
One could argue that this is Ken Russell's most understated film. That said, it's still a struggle to get through at times though Richard Chamberlain gives one of his finest performances. One senses that Chamberlain, decades away from revealing his own sexuality, felt a certain kinship to the Tchaikovsky presented in this film.
5-0 out of 5 stars I expect dvd version release

Stanley Kubrick's striking visual interpretation of Anthony Burgess'sfamous novel is a masterpiece.Malcolm McDowell delivers a clever, tongue-in-cheek performance as Alex, the leader of a quartet of droogs, a vicious group of young hoodlums who spend their nights stealing cars, fighting rival gangs, breaking into people's homes, and raping women. While other directors would simply exploit the violent elements of such a film without subtext, Kubrick maintains Burgess's dark, satirical social commentary. We watch Alex transform from a free-roaming miscreant into a convict used in a government experiment that attempts to reform criminals through an unorthodox new medical treatment. The catch, of course, is that this therapy may be nothing better than a quick cure-all for a society plagued by rampant crime.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ahead of it's time, Excellent Kubrick Film
First off, this was not an easy bood to make into a movie, but Stanly Kubrick did an excellent job of doing so, not cutting out too many of the details either. This movie was way ahead of it's time, with excellent cinemetography, great acting, and excellent adaptation to script of a book that tells a tale of young Alex and his gang in a world he live raise "ultraviolence".A nice glimpse into the mind of an Antisocial.Rent this, Buy this, worth owning. One of the many of a series of Excellent Kubrick films of the 70's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Second movie in a very special trilogy.
I ama fan of Stanley Kubrick, and I can see something very special about this movie, that makes me consider this one as the second installment of a so called, by myself, "trilogy". 2001: A Space Odyssey, Clockwork Orange & The Shining, they three share a feeling of loneliness, a sense of an external consciousness who is watching, from outside the Universe, the characters in the films, there is a feeling of a paranormal environment, manifest by the lighting, the sharp contrast of colors white, blue, red and fog in some of the scenes. And, this special environment is made even more surreal by the very special soundtracks of "Atmospheres" by Gyorgy Ligeti , "Timesteps" by Wendy Carlos, or thescore in The Shining by Carlos' couple too. Perhaps these three stories are part of the intervention of the Black Monoliths on the development of Mankind...Who knows? Buy these movies, they are highly recommended.
4-0 out of 5 stars great film by kubrick but what else is new
this film is a has a very nice story about a man named alex who loves to rape woman and fighting/stealing,but that all changes when he goes to jail. then while in jail he hears about a thing that a doctor is doing to stop people from being bad. so later the doctor picks alex to be like a ginny pig for this test. he is forced to watch horrable things while hes eyes are forced open. after getting these test alex can one longer be bad because if he does he gets real sick..

5-0 out of 5 stars Suitable to warp young minds....
I rented this film in my youth, and after I had watched it, left it downstairs next to the VCR.My younger sister popped it in, and I heard a mouthful from my older brother about how she shouldn't have been watching it, and I shouldn't have been watching it.Well, it's too late, I already did watch it, and my mind is now officially warped, hehehehe...My brother would freak out at other early favorites of mine, like Joe's Garage and Trout Mask Replica, but he was OK.As for this film, I love Ken Russell's work.He was on fire in the 1970's, and it's a shame that he hasn't really made a great film since Altered States. This film really has nothing to do with Franz Liszt (or Richard Wagner), but it's still a marvel to look at and to listen to.Great stuff. Now, how about a DVD?

4-0 out of 5 stars A disgrace Warner persist on VHS.
Indispensable, cult-status Ken Russel movie (not only for fans of The Who), that masterfully captures and subversively portrays on screen classical piano player/composer Frantz Liszt's personality: a legendary genious of a man whose life and times match that of a Rock star, 100 years before Rock was invented. If Glen Gould is the flamboyant 20th century classical piano player that rocked an establishment, just watch this movie to compare the original Master on his heyday.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ken Russell All The Way: Rocky Horror Picture Show Style
Ken Russell was at least providing mainstream audiences with a slice of music history- Franz Liszt, still regarded as the most extraordinary pianist ever born. He was not only prolific, but composed music that is extremely difficult to play- often feeling like the pianist must have more than ten fingers. Yes, during the 19th century, and in his youth, Liszt was a sex icon and had a following which can accurately be compared to that of a modern pop or rock artist. Yes, Franz Liszt had a fallig out with Richard Wagner, and yes Wagner was a big time German nationalist Aryan Supremacist and rotten apple (brilliant composer and love his music though). Russell is famous for suffusing his films with vulgarity, excessive flamboyance and out of this world cinematography. This one is a follow-up to the wildly successful rock opera Tommy and for a film, his most lavish and crazy spectacle a la Rocky Horror Picture Show. I didn't like it one bit but it is campy and will always have a following much like Rocky Horror Picture Show or Barbarella. Like thos movies, which are adult by the way and should never be watched by children- are best viewed late at night. What to watch for: a giant phallic monument which is worshipped in a bizarre ritual, a pipe organ that becomes a spaceship which ultimately saves the earth from a Frankenstein-Hitler monster, lots of musical numbers straight from rock opera/Broadway- Rocky Horror Picture Show type of stuff. Cameos include Ringo Starr as the Pope. It's mostly British humor (irreverant humor) but American audiences would eat it up just as easily.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Movie Ever Made
Their hasn't been a movie that has had such a profound effect on me as Once Upon a Time in The West. Their hasn't been a movie that has moved me, or flat out touched me the way this movie has. It's nearly three hours long and let me tell you, it doesn't seem like it. We are treated with top notch direction by the great Sergio Leone. He mesmerizes us with his camera angles, breathtaking visuals, and gets the best out of his actors! Henry Fonda has never been more menacing and cold blooded on screen. Charles Bronson is at his best and I personally think it's his best role. Jason Robards was outstanding. Claudia Cardinale has never been more beautiful and in my opinion an actress has never looked so good on screen as Claudia looked in Once Upon a Time in the West. We are also treated with an haunting score by the genius and frequent partner of Sergio Leone, Ennio Morricone. This is agruably the best music score of all time. It will touch you, and send chills up your spine! If you're a fan of Epics, and love a great story, Once Upon a Time in The West is the movie for you! Don't rent it, go out and buy it! Trust me!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Movie - Must Buy If You Love Westerns
This is an amazing work of art. A must buy for anyone who loves westerns. (Anyone who loves Sergio Leone already has it.) The documentary is interesting also. It is all testosterone, however, so if you do not like that sort of thing (not necessarily that your are a "chick"), you will hate this movie and not appreciate the art. If you liked the Clint Eastwood westerns (especially Good, Bad, Ugly, done by Leone), this is your next step. Big Characters and Big Themes, done Big, but beautifully well.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best Western ever made
When one thinks of auteurs who invested themselves frequently in the Western genre, a few names come to mind: John Ford, Sam Peckinpah, Sergio Leone. Ford's films featured absolutely beautiful photography and locations with poignant storytelling, Peckinpah's films were often blood-soaked stories of the West, and Leone's films were operatic, highly stylized epics. While popular opinion holds Ford as the definitive Western auteur (and he most likely is), Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West's nostalgic and meloncholy take on the death of the Old West is simply beautiful. Everything about this film is perfect, from the unforgettable score to the excellent performances to the powerful climax. Leone crafts a bittersweet farewell to the Western, telling the story of the mythic cowboy's demise at the hands of westward expansion (via the railroad). This film will entertain you for its running time and haunt you for long afterwards. ... Read more

I saw this masterpiece when it first came out, 1971. I have not stoped thinking and talking about it since. The devil you think of are not the devils you will see. It will leave a mark on you. 3-0 out of 5 stars The original is still the best
Like most sequals, this movie is not of the same caliber of the original Cleopatra Jones. It is, however, entertaining, and collectors of Urban 70's movies will find this one a "must have" for the collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cleo and Mi Ling are unstoppable!
Typical blaxploitation from the 70's but with a great flair in that that leading roles are played by two hot butt kicking ethnic Princesses! Cleo knows her Kung Fu and uses it well. My fav is the asian hottie Mi. In one scene Mi has just finished showering and walks out into the living room in her bathrobe only to be greeted by a group of intruders. They proceed to tie her hands up but are in for real surprise. This lady is a deadly martial artist. With her hands still tied, she turns her bare legs and feet into deadly weapons overpowering the men with some explosive kicks. She is soon joined by Cleo and the girls finally finish the guys off leaving the baddies knocked out cold. Although a bit campy, this movie is a cult classic and a great sequel to the original.

4-0 out of 5 stars A true gem

I saw "ZP" during its initial theatrical release at a theater on an Air Force Base in Texas.Although it was a little more controversial than "My Fair Lady", it was not the revolutionary and subversive piece that many of its current admirers like to believe, or at least the armed forces saw fit to make it accessible to the troops.Of course that was at least in part because nobody could figure out what Antonioni was trying to communicate with this film.

Something's wrong in the town of Santa Mira, California. At first, Dr.Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) is unconcerned when the townsfolk accuse their loved ones of acting like emotionless imposters. But soon the evidence is overwhelming--Santa Mira has been invaded by alien "pods" that are capable of replicating humans and taking possession of their identities. It's up to McCarthy to spread the word of warning, battling the alien invasion at the risk of his own life. Considered one of the best science fiction films of the 1950s and '60s, this classic paranoid thriller was widely interpreted as a criticism of the McCarthy era (that's Senator Joseph, not actor Kevin), which was characterized by anticommunist witch-hunts and fear of the dreaded blacklist. Some hailed it as an attack on the oppressive power of government as Big Brother. However viewers interpret it, this original 1956 version of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Paranoia From A Pod
For those people out there who have not seen this film (or read the excellent book it was based on) a classic sci-fi treat lies in wait to take over your lives and endow you all with a driving need to conform and obey.Or maybe just replace you with a carbon copy replica.
5-0 out of 5 stars Body Snatchers!
First let me say Contrary to popular belief this movie WAS NOT shot in a widescreen format, it was CROPPED into a widescreen format by the studio before release, having said that this movie remains a fine piece of 1950s si-fi highly enjoyable great pic on the DVD as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invasion From Within
Released in '56, 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' is an intelligent and insightful sci-fi/horror film dealing with the topic of an alien invasion from another planet perpetrated in a most unexpected and highly original way.

This 1968 oddity is probably a film only a total Beatlemaniac couldlove, but it carries both musical and historical resonance. It also givesintimations of what would happen in the next 30 years as artists gained more andmore power over how they were presented. The roots of virtually any rock star'svanity project (including Prince's Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Beatles Hit the Road With Aunt Jessica And Friends
I like the eleven Beatles music scenes that are essentially pre-MTV music videos. Unfortunately, the remainder of the program, which mainly features "Aunt Jessica", will give you nightmares. They should have provided an option to play only the Beatles music scenes.

5-0 out of 5 stars you will love it if your a true beatles fan
the magical mystery tour is amazing the beatles are psycadelic masterminds obviously you dont watch the movie how its supoused to be watched...on drugs.thats how they ment it to be watched i love the movie it is really trippy and i think its trippyier than yellow sub. but dont get me wrong the yellow sub has a plot and a good story line and is a better all around movie.but if your watching it for how it was sposed to be watched youd like m.m.t

3-0 out of 5 stars "Take a guess!"
"Magical Mystery Tour" is a 50 minute or so TV special that the Beatles shot and directed in 1967, and originally was shown on Boxing Day in that year in England. John, Paul, George, Ringo and his aunt take a tourist bus around England, a ride where anything can happen, and some of that anything does. The many adventures they have include a foot and car race, watching a movie in a tent bigger on the inside than the outside, a stripshow, and a singalong on the accordion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trippy...
A few years before this movie came out, a movie called "Tommy" came out. This movie took the concept album of The Who's "Tommy" and transferred it to the big-screen, using only music and absolutely no dialogue to further the story along. I never turn off a movie, no matter how bad I think it is. Except "Tommy." In reality, the film wasn't bad...It just annoyed me. There was a huge lack of entertainment going on. I wasn't expecting much from The Wall, but I've heard so many good things about it. I had to see it. Let me say, I haven't heard a lot of Pink Floyd stuff. I've only listened to four albums (Umma Gumma, Dark Side of the Moon, Atom Heart Mother, and Wish You Were Here). Yes, that's right. I haven't even heard The Wall album. This film is simalar to Tommy in the fact that Pink Floyd's music plays throughout the film. The difference is, there is some dialogue in the film although it doesn't move the plot along at all. The other difference is, this film has amazing visuals and is fun to watch. The movie's plot is basically a rock star named Pink (Bob Geldof) sits watching a war movie and begins to remember his childhood. Blended in is memories, fantasies, and a bunch of other [...] that results in one trippy movie to watch. But, as I said, the visuals are what keep you watching. The movie's metaphors (especially the title one) are very smart, the script is by Roger Waters (although I don't know how a person could write a script like this). If you're a Floyd fan/arty kinds of films, check this out for sure. All movies, in my opinion, are forms of art...But this film is actually like a work of art. Anyway, if you're just a moviegoer looking for some entertainment on a Saturday night...This isn't the movie for you.
4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE BUT DVD LACKS A BIT
Great Movie ! Can't argue that but the DVD lets it down a bit. The menu items do not work
