I bought a DVD player because of this release...
I am really sorry that this version of Yellow Submarine has gone out of print.When it came out in 1999, I had not yet purchased a DVD player, but I did immediately buy the VHS version.It was so wonderful, SO wonderful, and I read so many great reviews about the DVD, that I went out and bought the DVD, before I had a DVD player.Then not only did I buy a DVD player but also a new Kenwood receiver so I could get all the benefits of the surround sound.That's how crazy I was.The really crazy thing is, it was worth every penny.Plus it spoiled me.I expected every DVD release to show the same care and quality that Yellow Submarine did.The care that they lavished upon all aspects of this release, the video quality, the INCREDIBLE AUDIO QUALITY and the wonderful extras, are amplified by the horrible job that Miramax did on A Hard Day's Night.It's a shame that Apple could not was not able to get control of that.What a disgrace Miramax made of a classic.Makes me wonder what is happening with HELP!, Magical Mystery Tour and Let It Be.I pray daily that Miramax isn't able to get their grubby little hands on anymore Beatle product.

George Lucas, please take note
This remake of the classic serial adventure plays like the opposite of the recent 'Star Wars' prequels: it's campy, silly, goofy, cheesy...and a lot of fun.
Why has this not been reissued!!
Oi, it's true this has come out on dvd already but, hey it came out on dvd almost ten years ago.Back then DVD players were around the price of 700 bucks so, this movie was released in a very very small print run...... Here it is 2006 dvd players are 50 bucks and this movie is still not rereleased and ironicly sells more than it cost to buy a dvd player!?!? Whats up with that?????Why has this great cheesy sci fi film yet to see a reissue or some sort of "collectors tin" edition just so they can charge 30 bucks. Either way I'd be estatic to see this come out on dvd at a price I could afford!!!The only thing I could see thats preventing this from being rereleased is the soundtrack royalties...... If so, hey queen please don't be greedy or hey universal don't be cheap on royalties.... I don't know who's at fault but, come on bring this film to dvd again at a price we can afford.... Someone is sitting on this film because it's not even rerunned on some offshoot of a turner network like it was throughout the eighties..... Bring this back to dvd! Flesh Gordon is easily findable on dvd but, not the real movie..... Oh, as for a review of this film this is a movie about a jets quaterback who saves the universe! And in space if one recalls dudes bleed blue blood since theres no oxygen ;) And the soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks made by one band for a movie period. No songs feel forced into the movie... Instead each track flows perfectly with this film.... IE this was made in the day when soundtracks where just that soundtracks to the film. Wow - has it really been 26 years since Flash saved every one of us?
And what thanks did he get? No special treatment, no Superbowl ring, not even a crummy twenty-fifth anniversary re-release on DVD. Where's the justice? Where are the special features? Where's the widescreen, digital transfer? What the heck ever happened to Sam Jones? Is Ming the Merciless running the Universal Studios home video division? Will my children be doomed to a lifetime of Flash-lessness? Please, Flash, say it's not so!

I Was A Young MST3K Fan
I remember back in the early 1990s of a show called Mystery Science Theater 3000. My parents occasionally watched it...but I got hooked at age 9. Strangely enough, the jokes didn't totally whiz over my head and I was able to enjoy Joel (when he was there...mostly reruns), Mike (who I saw mostly), Servo, and Crow. Now I never got so see the movie in theaters (due to young age and I didn't even know there was a movie until I saw a commercial for the VHS!). Once it was on TV I watched, I laughed, I even recorded onto a VHS myself and viewed at leisure. Now, I'm 21 and am hoping to get the DVDs so I can enjoy like I used to (with more understanding to the jokes...and I see this price tag for USED copies of the movie on DVD. I understand it's out of print, but I think it's best to shop around.

When I was younger, my parents would watch MST3000 a lot (back when it was still on Sci-Fi). I didn't understand the movie humor, but I liked looking at the goofy monsters and I thought the robots were pretty funny.

Jody is the kind of guy that every 1970s teen looked up to. He's inhis early 20s, has a cool car, splendid '70s hair, leather jacket, playsguitar and (naturally) snags all the girls. His little brother, Mike, inparticular, admires him and emulates him at every turn. Things start to goastray, however, when the two brothers and their friend Reggie attend afuneral for a friend. Mike notices a tall man working at the funeral home; inthe course of his snooping, he sees the tall man put a loaded coffin into theback of a hearse as easily as if it was a shoebox. DRIPS WITH SURREALISM AND ATMOSPHERE
Phasntasm, a little-known (outside of fans) horror fasntasy from 1979 is, simply stated, one of the most effective, atmospheric and genuinely scary movies to come out in a long long time.Even after 27 years, it still holds up as a truly unsettling and thoughtful horror movie and, believe me, it WILL scare the bejesus out of you.The thing I remember most about Phantasm was the normal, suburban culdesac surroundings where the film takes place.I swear, it will remind you of the neighborhood you grew up in.If you thought Spielberg's Americana neighborhoods seem real, wait til you check out the settings here.The fact that the 2 boys live alone in this big Brady Bunch-type house makes the whole thing kind of dreamlike.(Their parents died recently with little explanation). The acting is spot-on.The guy that plays the little brother is completely realistic.You will swear you know this kid!Likewise his cool brother and Reggie the ice cream man.These 3 genuinely seem like they have been friends for years. The acting seems very spontaneous and natural.You totally buy into these characters.

I bought this movie, because a family member had seen it years ago and liked it.I watched it once and it was very funny there were several sexual referances in the movie coming from Ann-Margret but you can tell that by the cover.Funny as is was, at timesyou felt like you were watching the same things over and over again.I wouldn't watch it with young children.

My most upsetting and disappointing childhood video!
Between my brother and I we are able to agree on one thing, Frankenweenie being the most disappointing film we have ever endured as children. Two boys looking forward to our once a week Fry's grocery store movie rental decided on this film to entertain us that evening. Can you imagine how we felt after 27 minutes of a black and white movie at the ages of 7 and 9, or there about. Here is two young boys mostly interested in aliens and other random violent movies and we get stuck with this. So after this raving and built frustration over the last, almost, 2 decades I have decided to purchase this movie and send it to my 23 year old younger brother. Hope he enjoys the randomness and love his older brother will always feel for him. Love you Devren.

A dog with nine lives
This "Frankenstein monster" film by Tim Burton is a perfect model of compact and compelling storytelling; it brilliantly distills into thirty minutes what normally takes two hours. Frankenweenie is about love, acceptance, and redemption, and it's got a good moral. It's in black and white (which looks great!), it's funny, and, for younger children, even a little scary. Frankenweenie is my hero! (P.S. See if you can spot the clue that Frankenweenie has nine lives)

John Waters's goofy, 1990 comedy about a Baltimore girl (Amy Locane) who can't decide if she should remain "good" in her 1954 world or hang out with the motorcycle boys is funny in a scene-by-scene way, but doesn't quite gel into the grand piece the director was hoping for. The cast is exceptionally likable, however, including Johnny Depp as an Elvis type and Iggy Pop as a chattering loony. The best material is set in a fringe world of bikers and losers on the outskirts of town, and Waters writes some hilarious sardonic dialogue for the characters. Read more

The Best Movie Set In the 50s Since Grease!
"Cry Baby" is the coolest movie since Grease that deals with this time period. The songs are good and the actors in the film are really excellent. I'm a fan of Johnny Depp, and he came through in this movie and him in a lead role set in the 50s worked! This movie is not only a movie that takes place in the 50s, but it feels like a movie that was made in that decade as well. Everything that was big in the movies during that time are seen and used in here. I really enjoyed how this film also dealt with issues people had then and the way people acted and thought.
Campy...cute
Sort of like Grease/Outsiders gone crazy.Good movie and performances.I had no idea Johnny Depp could sing.I enjoyed the "jail house rock" spoof, and the music is great. Not a GREAT movie though, couldn't touch Grease or American Graffiti. But it IS worth watching.

Waters Gets Wet With Cry Baby
John Waters who likes to be called the "Pope of Trash" has done a lot of films that are outrageous in style such as "Cecil B. Demented," "Pecker," & "Hairspray." "Cry Baby" is a 1990 musical that is utterly silly and frothy, but works nevertheless. Johnny Depp, now a big box office draw and critical success with Oscar nominations for "Finding Neverland" & "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," can be proud of the rockabilly Elvis-type singer he plays named Wade "Cry Baby" Walker. Depp performs his "Jailhouse Rock" type number with great energy and rebellion. Having him run through sewage pipes in his underwear is enough to set many a teenage girl's hearts aflutter. The female lead is Allison played by Amy Locane who worked in other films like "Airhead," "The Mummy" & "Bongwater." She does a good Olivia Newton John-like "Grease" character of the square girl who has a crush on Depp's bad boy. Stephen E. Miller who was recently seen in "RV" with Robin Williams and previously in "The Accused" with Jody Foster does a good job as the square boyfriend Baldwin who loses his girl to Cry Baby.

Entertaining Hollywood Version Of The Famous Biblical Story
Even for those people not familiar with the stories contained in the Old Testament, when the names Sodom and Gomorrah are mentioned a vivid image will always spring to mind of a world full of vice, sexual depravity, and wickedness. The twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah embodied all these human failings and were a natural for the Hollywood film makers to latch on to as subject material once the "sword and sandal", movie craze gripped Hollywood in the late 1950's and early 60's. In fact this story was a natural for filmmakers of this period and contains everything that an epic movie lover like myself could ask for; lavish sets, court intrigue, well staged sword fights, unbridled passion and romance, all wrapped up in beautiful colour photography using actual locations to really enhance the unfolding story. By 1960's epic standards "Sodom and Gomorrah",is a relatively big budget international production that expands on the original story contained in the Bible but amazingly tends to tone down the sex and sin side of it while still being highly entertaining. I only viewed this film for the first time over Easter and I was surprised at how for the most part it avoided many of the more immoral elements of the story. Another production of 3 years later "The Bible: In The Beginning", directed by John Huston is much more explicit in showing the depravity and vice of the twin cities, which makes it an interesting companion piece to this lavish production.
But did it fill in the extra blanks?
This is a very good telling of the story of these 2 cities. However, I'm inclined to ask that maybe it was too long of a movie? This is not a very long story at all in the scriptures, and alot of it was filler of Lot's faith and life. It also shows Lot's side of where he backslid, and hopes to repent, and start anew with God. Valley of the Dolls
I have always enjoyed watching this movie, with so many great stars, some whom are no longer with us; never owned it on video, now I have it on DVD, great price too!! It was worth it.

You either love the movie or you don't. If you're a VoD lover, the Special Edition 2-disk release is worth every cent. The film is beautifully restored to its "Color by De Luxe" and Panavision widescreen glory. (My VHS tape is on a barge making its way to the Staten Island landfill as I type this). The second disk includes karioke renderings of songs along with several documentaries and featurettes (all listed above). My favorite of these is "Jacqueline Susann and Valley of the Dolls," which has generous film clips depicting the chain-smoking failed-actress-cum-bestselling-author speaking for herself and coming across as, more than anything, a highly committed and indefatigable professional writer (who used a different color of typing paper for each of her six drafts of the manuscript). It's easy to see how this no-nonsense, get-it-done schlockmeister got under skin the procratinating perfectionist and celebrity syncophant Truman Capote. (I was surprised to see no mention of their long-standing public rivalry anywhere among the DVD extras.)

yup, you know the movie by heart (even if you've never seen it)
Friday the 13th is probably the main reason we have so many horror flicks today.It's not really that scary watching the very first one 26 years later, but you have to understand the influence, and realize that back in the day the movie was truly something phenomenal in the world of horror movies.
Mrs Voorhes : the best maniac killer ever............
The first time i saw "friday the 13th" was at the age of 15 years old and i remember that that film liked me a lot! This film was the reason that i began watching horror films. Anyway "Friday the 13th" is my best film ever and in my top 10 of the bests films took the 1st place! The other 9 places are : "Halloween", "Jaws" , "the shining" , "misery" , "The texas chainsaw massacre", "sleepaway camp" , "the howling", "psycho" and "zero boys" from Nikos Mastorakis!

Ghost train of a movie
Fair enough this movie is now 26 years old, but I have no idea how it could of spawned so many sequels to be perfectly honest. I watched this for the very first time last week and I was painfully disapointed because I love a good old horror flick. You dont really get to see alot of gore in this movie, everyone just mysteriously vanishes and then turns up dead in a "ghost train" type manner, the type of ghost train that's in the lamest amusement park one could imagine. By ghost train I mean, dead bodies just pop out from nowhere in the most random of fashions. *Spoiler to follow* One problem I had is that the Mother was incapable of taking down a small fumbling blonde girl towards the end but had no problem killing the larger males of the group. The arrow thru the eye was a cool touch, but it would of been good to actually see it!

It's not THAT scary but it was enjoyable
Awhile ago I was having a conversation with someone about musical tastes where we vastly disagreed on what was simply awesome bands and which ones were purely based around taste, such as people who love R&B and Rap to people who prefer Dance. In a way, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as well as the Exorcist and the Shining are like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin of horror movies: you must love them and say anything different and you're going to get lynched. So I will agree that the film is definately refreshing considering the latest crop of so-called "horror movies", yet at the same time I wonder why it didn't hit me that much.

PLOT: Five friends (Pam, Kirk, Sally, Franklin, and Jerry) are travelling across the open, isolated roads of Southern Texas, checking on a family grave in light of recent graverobbing in the area. The good news is, the grave is unharmed. The bad news is, the kids are tortured and slaughtered by a group of inbred hicks who dwell withing the woods.

The Greatest
In our house, this is one of the all-time favourite movies. *Everyone* is perfectly cast, the style constantly changes (on-stage, off-stage, fantasy projections of how numbers could be staged...) and it manages to be convincing as a small-time theatre production while at the same time being colourful and imaginative. Covent Garden could learn a thing or two about staging from this movie. This is Ken Russell's greatest movie. We want a DVD!

Fluffy, silly, ridiculous, and I love it!
I have one copy of this tape and I guess I'd better get a backup -- doesn't look like it's coming out on DVD anytime soon and I'm gonna wear the poor thing out! It is a perfect portrayal of a bunch of wannabes who definitely will never-be... OK, except Tommy Tune who's probably just too good to perform as barely adequate. Christopher Gable likewise performs like a pro. (Is that perhaps a failing in this particular flick, which is all about a bunch of folks who aren't really that great?) Twiggy is perfectly cast. She's delightfully amateur as a singer; she's so likable, such an underdog, so frightened, how can she not be a sympathetic character? Even the awkward edits, which would be unforgivable in a more serious film, are perfect amateur glitches here (watch the jumpy splices in the "Perfect Young Ladies" number--really horrible, but just exactly the right thing to leave in on this movie). My favorite over-the-top silly bit is Polly's extended Grecian nymph fantasy. Tommy Tune leading the chorus of nymphs off to save the day is hysterical. And the whole thing takes place in the space of time it takes for Polly to make quick eye contact with Tony offstage... and ends when he winks back at her. Two seconds of real time. What girl hasn't had an extended fantasy compressed into a few seconds? It's all so cheerfully, delightfully cheesy. Not a guy's film. It's a chick flick. Perfect for the end of a really yucky day: curl up with your Teddy bear and something chocolate, plug this movie in, and enjoy the ride. I am taking a trip to the Seattle area this week and decided that I wanted to have lunch at the Great Northern Hotel, owned by Benjamin Horne (est. 1927).The hotel, which offers its guests a spectacular view of Whitetail Falls, is located slightly north of Twin Peaks, just below the base of Black Lake.The Great Northern is actually the Salish Lodge, perched on a hillside just above Snoqualmie Falls.To prepare myself for the experience, and to indoctrinate my oldest daughter into yet another cult television show, we watched the first season of "Twin Peaks" together starting with the two hour pilot episode that originally aired Sunday, April 8, 1990 on ABC.Fifteen years later, this pilot episode written by Mark Frost ("Hill Street Blues") and David Lynch ("Blue Velvet") still stands up.

This is pretty much what any fan of the show or David Lynch needs to start with. It's the original movie/pilot, and is a great piece of work. The story, the characters, and the whole northwest environment really make for an interesting and sometimes creepy watch. Many cool actors showed up in "Twin Peaks", among them Kyle McLachlan, Lara Flynn-Boyle, Sheryl Lee, Jack Nance, and the sexy Sherilyn Fenn. Black humor abounds!
Based on Poe's classic, this is a most amusing film about two warring Sorcerers, Dr. Scarabus {Karloff} and Dr. Erasmuc Craven (Vincent Price) who eventually meet up and duel it out one stormy night using their various imaginative Magical talents to out-notch eachother.

Roger Corman directed many films based on works by Edgar Allan Poe. These films include: "Masque of the Red Death", "The Haunted Palace", "Tales of Terror", "The Pit and the Pendulum", "The Conqueror Worm", "The Tomb of Ligeia", & "The Fall of the House of Usher." "The Raven" is based on a poem from Poe. As the film begins, sorcerer, Erasmus Craven (Vincent Price) is amusing himself with magic when he receives a strange visitor--a pesky raven. The raven, it turns out, is fellow magician, Dr. Bedlo (Peter Lorre). Bedlo has been stripped of his magical tools and turned into a raven by the evil Dr Scarabus (Boris Karloff). Craven turns Bedlo back into his human form and then learns that his wife--Lenore--who has supposedly been dead for two years--is alive and well and living with Dr Scarabus. Great Horror Classic Fun!

Neighbors Should Be Released on DVD!
This is I feel the best movie that John Belushi ever played in.It is also my favorite movie!This is a really off-beat movie.It has its spooky, quirky and simply funny and entertaining parts also!I know that a lot of movie critics did not like this movie, but the first time I seen it on cable (HBO) I went out and bought it.I wish this movie was released on DVD but to date I have not found it.To me it is a classic that deserves to be put on disc.The rest of the cast played great parts also!I would highly recommend this movie as it is entertaining and extremely funny!

Vincent Price brings a theatrical flourish to the role of Roderick Usher, a brooding nobleman haunted by the dry rot of madness in his family tree. This being Poe, there's a history of family madness and melancholia, a premature burial, and a sense of doom hanging over this gloomy, crumbling mansion. Roger Corman sold stingy AIP pictures on the concept by claiming "The house is the monster," or so goes the oft-told story. True or not, Corman (with the help of his brilliant art director Daniel Haller and legendary cinematographer Floyd Crosby) creates an exaggerated sense of isolation and claustrophobia with the sunless forest and funereal fog that holds the house and its inhabitants prisoner in a land of the dead. It doesn't quite look real (some of the effects are downright phony, notably the apocalyptic climax), and none of the costars can hold a candle to Price's elegant, haunted performance (often speaking in no more than a stage whisper), but it's a triumph of expressionism on a budget. Shot in rich, vivid color and CinemaScope, from a literate script by genre master Richard Matheson, this is stylish gothic horror in a melancholy key. A rather boring movie/adaptation despite Vincent Price's brilliance.
I simply thought that "The Fall of the House of Usher" was rather boring and I found myself dozing off.I thought that "The Pit and the Pendulum" was a much better flick and a much more interesting adaptation.In fact, I was quite disappointed with this adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's brilliant short story "Fall of the House of Usher".While the movie provides a grim atmosphere in accordance with the Poe's story, the movie drags and never really picks up enough steam to keep one's interest...however, I found the actual story written by Poe to be quite interesting and very entertaining...perhaps that is my problem with the movie as it is not nearly as good as the story itself.This movie "The Fall of the House of Usher" could have been much better.Notwithstanding the poor adaptation of Poe's classic story of despair, Vincent Price, as always, was terrific in his role...still, this is not enough to make this a good adaptation.I recommend watching the clearly superior "The Pit and the Pendulum" instead of this flick.

Corman, Poe, Price and the American Drive In
After all the years that have passed since the Corman/Price "Poe" series first ran, it is hard to explain just how breathtaking these films were, especially in the heartland. When they were new, those of us in the large patch in the middle of America, and were raised on drive-in movies, saturday kiddie shows, and afternoon TV "matinees" were frankly surprised by how good these films really were. The Corman/Pricemovies provided a welcome switch from summer films with plots built around sex-crazed cheerleaders, pulchritudinous stewardesses, over-heated summer school teachers, and hormonally-crazed student nurses. Still Quirky and Funny Black Comedy Tells the Ultimate Opposites-Attracts Love Story
This 1971 black comedy is still a stitch, even if it doesn't feel as audacious as I'm sure it once did. Directed by the maverick Hal Ashby, it is the epitome of all opposites-attract love stories as a twenty-year old depressive connects with a 79-year old life-loving woman. They actually bond over their mutual interest in death, as they keep showing up at the same funerals.
