I bought this movie, because a family member had seen it years ago and liked it.I watched it once and it was very funny there were several sexual referances in the movie coming from Ann-Margret but you can tell that by the cover.Funny as is was, at timesyou felt like you were watching the same things over and over again.I wouldn't watch it with young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Villain 1979
Hes dressed in black from boots to hat and and hes twirling double iron . His name is "Cactus Jack" slater and hes THE VILLAIN . Kirk Douglas (1916- ) stars as the neer-do-well highwayman in this screwball gunslinger comedy co-starring Arnold Schwartznegger (1947 - )as handsome stranger andswedish actress Ann-Margret (Ann-Margret Olsson 1941 - ) as a lusty Miss Charming Jones . Charming father Parody( Strother Martin 1919-1980) has sent her on a risky overland errand , providing crooked banker Avery Simpson ( Jack Elam 1918-2003) with the perfect chance to double-cross Parody out of a silver fortune and when Simpson offers to buy Cactus Jack out out of the Snakes End Jail if hi hell do the dirty work , Cactus Jack schemes to double-cross the double-crosser . But his plans are foiled when Arnold Schwarzenegger weigh in as Handsome stranger . He owes Parody Jones his life , and thepayback is pure pistol-poppimg laughter as the blue-eyed do-gooder does his duty : Protecting the loot and the lady with a white-hatted paladins good luck . Ride along with a horse named Whisky and an allstar cast featuring Paul Lynde (1926-1982) as THE VILLAIN plots to outsmart handsome with slapstick determination . A raucous western spoof that proves you cant judge a cowboy by the color of his hat . High Quality Transfer . Recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars You would enjoy this movie if. . .
If you like good clean humor, you will love this movie. It is so funny and also entertaining. It's about a cowboy and his horse, and the horse almost talks. It's also about a seven shot, six-shooter (can you believe it). It comes in handy at just the right time. It's also about a naive cowboy, who does dumb things and doesn't even know they're dumb. So, for an entertaining time, purchase this dvd. It's well worth the money, and the time spent watching it. I'm sure you'll love it as much as we did. Happpy watching!!!!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Movie Ever Made
Their hasn't been a movie that has had such a profound effect on me as Once Upon a Time in The West. Their hasn't been a movie that has moved me, or flat out touched me the way this movie has. It's nearly three hours long and let me tell you, it doesn't seem like it. We are treated with top notch direction by the great Sergio Leone. He mesmerizes us with his camera angles, breathtaking visuals, and gets the best out of his actors! Henry Fonda has never been more menacing and cold blooded on screen. Charles Bronson is at his best and I personally think it's his best role. Jason Robards was outstanding. Claudia Cardinale has never been more beautiful and in my opinion an actress has never looked so good on screen as Claudia looked in Once Upon a Time in the West. We are also treated with an haunting score by the genius and frequent partner of Sergio Leone, Ennio Morricone. This is agruably the best music score of all time. It will touch you, and send chills up your spine! If you're a fan of Epics, and love a great story, Once Upon a Time in The West is the movie for you! Don't rent it, go out and buy it! Trust me!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Movie - Must Buy If You Love Westerns
This is an amazing work of art. A must buy for anyone who loves westerns. (Anyone who loves Sergio Leone already has it.) The documentary is interesting also. It is all testosterone, however, so if you do not like that sort of thing (not necessarily that your are a "chick"), you will hate this movie and not appreciate the art. If you liked the Clint Eastwood westerns (especially Good, Bad, Ugly, done by Leone), this is your next step. Big Characters and Big Themes, done Big, but beautifully well.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best Western ever made
When one thinks of auteurs who invested themselves frequently in the Western genre, a few names come to mind: John Ford, Sam Peckinpah, Sergio Leone. Ford's films featured absolutely beautiful photography and locations with poignant storytelling, Peckinpah's films were often blood-soaked stories of the West, and Leone's films were operatic, highly stylized epics. While popular opinion holds Ford as the definitive Western auteur (and he most likely is), Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West's nostalgic and meloncholy take on the death of the Old West is simply beautiful. Everything about this film is perfect, from the unforgettable score to the excellent performances to the powerful climax. Leone crafts a bittersweet farewell to the Western, telling the story of the mythic cowboy's demise at the hands of westward expansion (via the railroad). This film will entertain you for its running time and haunt you for long afterwards. ... Read more

Clint Eastwood's second film as a director (and his first Western) is a variation on the "man with no name" theme, starring Eastwood as the drifter known only as "the Stranger." He rides into the desert town of Lagos and is quickly attacked by three gunmen. Recovering with the aid of a local dwarf (a memorable role for Billy Curtis), the Stranger is hired by the intimidated townsfolk to fend off a band of violent ex-convicts. After teaching the citizens self-defense and instructing them to paint the entire town red and rename it "Hell," the Stranger vanishes. He reappears when the marauding criminals arrive, and delivers justice and teaches the townsfolk a harsh lesson about moral obligation. Is he a figure from their past or a kind of supernatural avenger? Combining humor with action, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Only problem you've got Sheriff is a short supply of guts."
By the late 1960s Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood (Pale Rider, Unforgiven) had certainly established himself as an actor with such features as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), Hang 'Em High (1968), Where Eagles Dare (1968) before also taking on the role as director in his film Play Misty for Me (1971).High Plains Drifter (1973) was Eastwood's 2nd directing gig, written by Ernest Tidyman (Shaft, The French Connection) and featuring Eastwood himself. Also appearing is Verna Bloom (Animal House), Geoffrey Lewis (Every Which Way But Loose), Marianna Hill (Schizoid), Mitch Ryan (Lethal Weapon), Jack Ging (SSSSSSS), Stefan Gierasch (Silver Streak), Ted Hartley (Ice Station Zebra), Walter Barnes (Every Which Way But Loose), Anthony James (Unforgiven), Dan Vadis (Bronco Billy), and Billy Curtis, one of many little people featured in the film The Wizard of Oz (1939).
4-0 out of 5 stars An early directorial gem from Eastwood.
HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER was only Clint Eastwood's second film as a director, but it demonstrates the sure hand, unusual tone and solid craftsmanship that would later mark such films as UNFORGIVEN.Cut very much from the same cloth as some of the moodier Italo-Westerns, HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER tells a hard-edged tale of hypocrisy, revenge and murder that never stops surprising the audience.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best horror/western
This movie is amazing. The Stranger comes out of the ether in the beginning of the movie as a lone horserider appears like a blurry mirage riding through the desert. He enters the small mining town of Lago. All eyes are on him as he rides down the street. What happens next is original, violent, and politically incorrect. This movie should be seen by all fans of westerns and the twilight zone.

Editorial Review

Billy the Kid is reimagined by director Sam Peckinpah as a kind of Old West rock star, a young man who wants to do his own thing but constantly runs up against the objections of the establishment--in this case, the cattle barons who run this part of the country. Peckinpah indulged in some quirky casting, including Bob Dylan as an outlaw named Alias and most of Kristofferson's band as Billy's gang. He also draws exceptional performances out of a cast of old veterans, including James Coburn as the reluctant Pat Garrett, R.G. Armstrong, Katy Jurado, and Slim Pickens, who has a terrific death scene to Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." Look for this longer version (122 minutes); the shorter version is the one that MGM recut against Peckinpah's wishes, removing all the character development and Peckinpah's elegiac sense of the Old West in favor of action and violence. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece That Can't Seem To Escape Controversy
I am very conflicted in praise for this special edition.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ranks with "The Shootist" for "Best Ever Western"
Sheriff Colin Baker's (Slim Pickens) death with his wife (Katy Jurado) by him stunned me.I had heard "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" hundreds of times, but now, with Bob Dylan singing the ballad in the background, it truly made me feel what was going between these two excellent actors.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tale of the Christ
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid is one of the darkest of films; death and loss seem to pervade every scene. The film mourns the death of the western film (it is the last great western), the end of the frontier period, and is the last film of many western actors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Eastwood/Leone Collaborations?
The Helpful Part:Actor Clint Eastwood and director Sergio Leone team up once again after the success of "A Firstful of Dollars."This movie is often mistakenly considered a sequel to the first film, but that's not the case.Eastwood is playing a different (though similar) character with a different name (he's Monco here and Joe in the first film).Gian Maria Volonte is also playing a different role, though he is still a bad guy.
2-0 out of 5 stars Good but German version from Amazon.de is better.....than UK SE
Just received the German 4 disc digipak. GOOD NEWS. played 10 mins of both - no problems. Menus are all in English (or German) all the extra's on the English R2 SE's are here except for the photo gallery.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Leone/Eastwood Films
Despite the legendary status afforded "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", "For a Few Dollars More" is considered by some to be the best of the Leone/Eastwood collaborations. This film certainly lacks the epic scope of that more famous picture, but the more limited focus is in many ways truer to the roots of the "Spaghetti Western" genre Leone popularized.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Tarintino
Watching this movie is like viewing two separate movies that are loosely related. The first half is classic Tarintino with excellent dialogue and bizarre situations. The second half is entirely different than anything Q.T. has ever done. At first I didn't like it, because I was hoping for another Pulp fiction, but after I let it stand on its own I realized it is very good.
5-0 out of 5 stars Tarentino Strikes Again

A different sort of Sergio Leone Western, this one takes place during the Mexican Revolution, with more politics than usual. But there's still plenty of action, with Rod Steiger as a cigar-chomping peasant who robs banks to liberate political prisoners, and James Coburn as an Irish terrorist trying to flee from his bitter past. They team up to thwart a sadistic officer and help the cause; redemption for the more subdued Coburn provides added depth. 5-0 out of 5 stars Your a great grand hero of the Revolution!
A Revolution is when the people who read the books tell the people who don't read the books to fight. Where do the people who don't read the books end up ? DEAD --Juan(Rod Steiger)I recently saw the full version of this film on a cable "western" channel. I'd originally seen it on HBO in around '82 and that must have been the cut version because there were some scenes I just saw for the first time. I also don't remember the Mao quote being at the start of the film back then. I enjoyed this movie just as much almost 25 years later. I still remembered Rod steiger and James Coburns horrible accents that just seemed to make this film more fun to watch (plus it helps them that everyone else is dubbed). Leone was not confined by hollywood constrictions that require most movies to be 1:30 to 1:45 long. He made everyone of his movies in epic, over the top style--Its great that as director he was given the freedom to translate his vision to the screen. Also a great music score. I still have to lookup "The Patriotism" by Baukinan on Amazom!

4-0 out of 5 stars 2005 European release, a fully restored version
On April 18, 2005, MGM Home Entertainment(Europe)(LTD) released what is called -a fully restored edition- of A Fistful Of Dynamite (or Giu la Testa or Duck, You Sucker)(There is the claim that Sergio Leone approved of parts if not all of the restorations before he died)(However, I cannot figure out if this is a true director's cut or an approved restored version). This is a two disc set in the PAL format (USA, region 1 is formatted in NTSC). The movie is 158 min long under the PAL format (but according to one reviewer from the UK, the movie is actually 150 min, go figure: 8 minutes is a long time). The second disc contains a number of features including one describing the various versions of the movie (from its 120 min USA version up to this 158 min version). For more information, you should google (Fistful Of Dynamite MGM Home Entertainment).
3-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Fun? I think not
There is nothing funny at all about this film. The disc cover is extremely misleading, showing Steiger and Coburn as cartoon characters having a jolly time with machine guns and sticks of dynamite. This is the exact opposite of what's inside. At 2 hrs and 27 mins it is very long -- and I learn that I must have seen the cut version. I found it grindingly slow and intensely depressing, full of sadness, the sadism of civil war, regret and sorrow. All Steiger's family and friends are ruthlessly killed during the action; all Coburn's have been similarly killed before it begins. This is no joke, it is deadly serious. There is an interesting development of the two main characters in the course of the narrative, but I'm afraid it drags somewhat. The moral is dispiriting: I suppose it is that Revolution is an extremely nasty business which, although it may be thought necessary at certain junctures in a nation's political progress, probably doesn't get anyone anywhere much, except into the big sleep. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars you know nothing about Tuco
One of Leone's most memorable flicks,Clint Eastwood reprises his role for the third time as the man with no name,or Blondie,in this flick. In this installment,a kind of Rat Race-type situation occurs where a lone ranger,a robber, and a baddie get involved in a plot to get $50,000 first. There begind a perilous journey of betrayal, murder, and revenge.I especially like the character Tuco, with his quick, fast wit and hillarious habits,it's hard not to laugh.Lee Van Clef is also brilliant as angel Eyes, the baddie in the flick who tries to take out Blondie and Tuco. It's a roller coaster ride to the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Western, Great Acting
I love the plot in this movie. I think that Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman did superb acting jobs in this movie. I can watch this movie over and over. It is not just your regular "gunfight in town" kind of western. Gene Hackman is so talented, he plays his roles so real that the movie viewers want to hate his guts. He is so believable in any role that he plays. Leonardo Dicaprio was superb as the impressive young man wanting his overbearing father's approval. Sharon Stone seemed like she has been slinging a gun all of her life.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hard boiled Western fantasy !
The Lady, played by Sharon Stone, arrives at the small town dominated by the cruel and capricious Herod (Gene Hackman) where a quick draw contest is being held. With a series of flashbacks we see why Lady wants to enter the contest--she is a woman set on revenge.
1-0 out of 5 stars This must be a comedy.Surely it can't be serious.
I have seen this film several times and still can not figure out if it's suppose to be a comedy or a drama. If it's a comedy, it's very bad.If it is suppose to be serious, it's even worse. The characters overact and are totally unbelievable. The plot is very predictable, and the dialog, well, it must have been written by a thirteen year old, if that.

A quirky and sneakily funny delight from the mid-'70s, this oddball comedy stars Jeff Bridges and Sam Waterston as a pair of modern cattle rustlers who have targeted a local rancher--and then steal his herd one cow at a time. Rancho Deluxe (1975) is one of those films I had sitting on my Amazon wish list for quite some time before I got around to purchasing it, which I did, around November of 2005...then it proceeded to sit on my shelf for a good six months before I got around to watching it, which I did, last night...there just never seemed any urgency in purchasing or watching the film, but I'm glad I did, on both counts.Written by Thomas McGuane (92 in the Shade, Tom Horn) and directed by Frank Perry (David and Lisa, Diary of a Mad Housewife, Mommie Dearest), the film stars Jeff Bridges (Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Tron, The Big Lebowski) and Sam Waterston (The Great Gatsby, Heaven's Gate, The Killing Fields) back before he became a fixture on the television series "Law & Order".Also appearing is Slim Pickens (One-Eyed Jacks, Dr. Strangelove), Clifton James (David and Lisa, Cool Hand Luke), Elizabeth Ashley (Vampire's Kiss), Charlene Dallas (The Great Bank Hoax), Harry Dean Stanton (Kelly's Heroes, Alien), Richard `Al Neri' Bright (The Godfather), Patti D'Arbanville (Time After Time), Bert Conway (Little Big Man), and Joe Spinell (The Godfather: Part II, Rocky, Maniac) in a small, but memorable bit part.
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't respect anyone who doesn't like this film!
1. It's incredibly well written and very, very funny (Tom McGuane scripts); 2. It's got some of the best ensemble acting and best one-liners of its time; 3. During the course of the film, no one dies or is shot or knifed or choked or run over (we do see a couple of steers go down tho); 4. Warren Oates is playing harmonica in Jimmy Buffett's band at The Wrangler bar; 5. A "Pong" machine is featured in the story; 6. Wonderfully photographed by William Fraker who really shows off the Livingston area of Montana's Big Sky; 7. Only film to feature breakfast and bathing at Chico Hot Springs.
If you don't like this film you have no sense of humor and you should reconsider your place on earth. ... Read more
