5-0 out of 5 stars Great yoga!
I would recommend the Crunch-Fat Burning Yoga DVD for anyone - whether it's your first yoga attemptor you are at a higher level of yoga. It's interesting and easy to follow and you feel like you've done your stretches as well as burned some fat after you've finished the DVD. Sara Ivanhoe is a great instructor and you don't get tired of her.
2-0 out of 5 stars Great Yoga Tape? I do not think so!
I think there are two major problems with this tape. First, in no way it is suitable for beginners. Instructor cuesfor breathing are inconsistent, about 50% of the time there is no cueing at all. Her cues for poses are very poor, she mostly mentions if the pose is hard to do or not. You cannot follow her without looking at your TV screen, and if you do not know which muscles to flex or stretch, 50% of the time she is not going to tell you. The program does contain two levels, for more and less flexible. Yet, transition from one pose to another is so quick that you can barely get your balance. Try Jane Fonda Yoga instead, or (and) Kundahlini yoga.

4-0 out of 5 stars 22yr old girl trying to loose the college weight!!
What's nice about this exercise video is that you don't realize how much time goes by!!! You do a 40 min workout in what feels like 20 min!! The women are all very in shape, but I found that actually motivated me!! (I wanted their abs!!)At first, I thought the salsa dancing would be difficult but it was actually pretty easy!! I have absolutely no coordination and by the end of this video it actually makes you feel like a sexy dancer!! Something I never thought I would feel!!Overall, great video when you are just getting back into the exercise scene!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun
I don't usually call any form af exercise fun so I bought this video hoping that dancing my way to fitness might work for me.I really like this video because even though I am not coordinated and I have no sense of rhythm I can actually do this video and enjoy myself in the process. It took me about 3 times doing the workout before I was comfortable with the steps but even if you mess up the steps you are still getting a good workout.Maybe exercisers that are used to an hour of heart pumping, high impact aerobics might find this video a little easy and maybe authentic salsa dancers might think that the moves are not true latin dance but if you are like me and want a fun, fast easy to follow video, this is a great choice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable

This intermediate-to-advanced video from the trendy gym Crunch will work all your muscles, including your heart. The intense half-hour workout is divided into seven-and-a-half-minute segments. Instructor Susan Hitzman and her class of young, perfect hardbodies (showing off incredibly tight, sculpted midriffs) demonstrate strengthening moves that combine upper- and lower-body muscles, for example, doing an overhead press with weights and a squat simultaneously, varying the rhythm for intensity. And, of course, it wouldn't be "boot camp" without pushups. "Remember, I would rather you gave me 4 excellent pushups than 12 sloppy ones!" Hitzman announces. By the end you'll be begging for mercy, because each segment has progressively harder pushup variations, including some you've never tried. Hitzman also gives you your fill of lunges and cardio moves such as jumping jacks. Meanwhile the upper-body strength exercises get progressively more difficult with each segment, as do the abdominal routines. Hitzman is a fine, innovative instructor, cueing clearly with plenty of instruction for doing the moves correctly. If you think you've done it all, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars super workout
this is a great one- gets your muscles working!!! I alternate between this one and the "Crunch- cardio sculpt" on my off days from the gym- a well-worth it effort & a decent workout for 30 minutes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun!
This DVD is fun and effective. If you keep up and do it with maximum intensity, you can really feel it! I would definitely recommend this DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get down and give me 20!
Although I enjoy Pilates and yoga, I need a good workout that makes me sweat.Boxing and martial arts classes are great for that purpose. But there are times where I prefer to feel the burn at home.To that end, one of the best cardio/strength DVD workouts I've found is "Crunch: Boot Camp Training."

"Calorie burning cardio plus Pilates-based toning," promises this 40-minute Crunch program, which combines Pilates-influenced standing and mat exercises. In the cardio section, instructor Ellen Barrett uses Pilates terminology (e.g. "standing imprint") as she adapts Pilates moves to rather repetitious standing exercises--mostly squats and leg lift variations--which work the core muscles of the abdominals and back as well as legs, thighs, and buttocks. The moves are sometimes slow and rarely "travel," so your heart rate might not stay elevated, although your lower body and core muscles will get a good workout. The toning section consists of Pilates mat exercises which work abs, back, thighs, and buttocks. One exerciser demonstrates easier modifications. The background music is dominated by a lively drummer who keeps the workout upbeat andenthusiastic. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for Ellen, Zero stars for cameraman and idiotic drummer
I am a huge fan of Ellen Barrett's Crunch Pilates series.I have all her DVDs and use them regularly. This is the only one I have a gripe with.
5-0 out of 5 stars pilates beginner
I had never done pilates before and this workout is easy to follow but challenging enough to feel it work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good low-impact cardio workout
This is my second favorite cardio workout (after Self Slim and Sleek Fast). again, i am a big fan of Ellen. Great instructor, very down to earth and good energy. This workout really works your legs hard, and if you put alot of effort into it you will work up a sweat. It feels great combinig cardio and stretching and improving your posture while you do this routine. The ab section is very challenging for beginners like me. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Crunch Mama Yoga
I've never been into yoga at all, but during the end of my 5th month of pregnancy, my body felt so confined that I had to do something.I got the Crunch Mama and enjoyed it.I am not flexible at all, so this tape should last me a while; but for those who are more advanced, it may be a little to easy. What I liked about it was that the instructor had a nice voice and that there were all pregnant women in the video. And for 45 minutes, the video went fast.I wasn't bored at all, and my body does feel better for doing it.I think this will be routine for me; it helps with energy also and for tired, confined muscles. For new yoga-ers, I highly recommend it, but for someone doing yoga previously, you may want to find something a bit more challenging.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great yoga workout for mom's to be.
I really like the instructor and find the workout helpful. It may not be all that fast paced, but you shouldn't be doing that type of yoga when pregnant anyway.

3-0 out of 5 stars nice but not quite what I needed...
I was happy when I recieved this DVD yoga mama, but as I prevued it before trying it out I was greatly disapionted. This really does seem to be a good prenatal yoga vidio but it is of no use to me and because I opened it to view I do not even think I can send it back which means I can not afford a different one.

This Pilates workout's subtitle, "Pick Your Spot," sums up its flexibility; the three 10-minute segments each tone the abdomen, rear, and thighs using Pilates-based exercises. Crammed into each segment are up to 10 exercises. "Belly" features the 100, criss-cross, twist, and mermaid; "Butt" includes swimming, double leg kicks, and leg circles; and "Thighs" offers the frog, front kicks, and leg lifts. While each segment is too brief to challenge veteran exercisers, viewers are free to hit the pause button and add reps. Plus, a 10-minute bonus total-body Pilates workout proves more demanding than the individual segments. L.A. Crunch instructor Ellen Barrett does an excellent job of initiating newbies to the regulated breathing and core muscle control needed for the exactness of this exercise system. However, visual clarity is somewhat hampered by a crowded set of eight exercisers when Barrett and one other person demonstrating the modifications would have been enough. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars "OK" - mostly for beginners
Overall I had mixed thoughts about this video, it wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either.
5-0 out of 5 stars I love this DVD
This is a great workout. I use it all the time with great results. There are modified moves for those who need to take it a little easier. Besides the pick your spot workouts there is also a total body workout that looks like it would be really good for someone who needs a little bit harder workout. Ellen is a great instructor, very personable and encouraging.

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective for toning in a short amount of time
I have had this DVD for 3 years, and still come back to it often. I find that it helps strengthen my core (up and down the abs), the three short (10 minute) segments make the workout go by quickly, and Ellen has clear cues. She is direct, but encouraging in the way she leads the workout. This is not a DVD that by itself will have you shedding weight, but it definitely helps tighten the abs, buns and legs, and I also notice when my abs are in better shape that I have fewer issues with lower back pain. I would say it is intermediate, but beginners can modify it, and advanced can use it as a supplement to cardo and weight training. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good step
This is a medium paced workout.I like it because I can use my step at 8 inches with this one and not hurt my knees. The moves are not too complicated. But you still work up a good sweat in 30 seconds.

3-0 out of 5 stars Oddly unsatisfying
I am a fan of Crunch tapes but find this one a little annoying. Cueing is inconsistent -- sometimes on time, sometimes a beat late to follow -- and it can be hard to make out what he's saying over the music and drums. Choreography is fun but the workout ends just as I'm getting going. I wish they had put all the segments together at the end for a full routine. I'll probably stick with the tape just to master the choreography, but for a 30-minute step workout I much prefer Reebock Versa Dance Step.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kendell Hogan

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst workout ever
....2-0 out of 5 stars not for beginners
I bought this tape hoping for a quick, good workout. However, the steps aren't broken down well and therefore the tape is difficult to follow. Since the crunch philosophy is for people of various "shapes, size or ability", I was expected something better than this. If you're more advanced, don't need to learn by watching the instructor and can learn steps easily, you might like this face-paced video.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great, not bad
The steps and combinations CAN be a little difficult the first couple oftimes, and once or twice Lori herself goofs, so that doesn't help.Read more

Once again, Crunch has produced another terrific workout tape. An enthusiastic teacher who is wonderful at reminding you to keep your navel in and your back flat, Nancy Popp leads this sculpting class. 4-0 out of 5 stars Light toning workout....
Nancy Popp leads this 60 minute sculpting class, she is working out with several fellow female exercisers, all of which appear to be in excellent shape.A younger Minna Lessig is one of the participants. You will need one set of dumbells ranging anywhere from 2-5 pounds which is appropriate for this routine as many of the exercises are done in combination. It should be noted that the weights are only used in the upper body segment.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great whole body workout
I've used this video for years, it's great.Unfortunately my copy died in the VCR, but I am going to get another soon! This is not a cardio workout, but it will make you sweat a little. It tones *everything*.My butt hurts after using it.After I'd had it for a while I started turning the sound off and playing my favorite music while doing it.The music is tolerable while you're learning the cues, but not great. All the ladies in the video are really cute, though Nancy Popp's outfit is not what I'd wear if I was making a workout video...: )The video is about 45 minutes long and uses only a mat/carpet, and light hand weights.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Effective
I really love the Crunch workout videos because the instructors are always fun and motivating. This one really works a lot of muscle groups I didn't know I had. But, I have seen results from using it at least once a week.I feel stronger and my clothes fit better so I would say it is a success. My schedule is so busy that it is sometimes hard to squeeze this one in, but when I do have time, it is refreshing and fun.I recommend it if you really want to tone your muscles on your entire body. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars the best butt toning video!
i've been doing this video since '93, and have not found a better one since.i came online to find it in dvd format.tragically i didnt find it. this is a no nonsense, right to the point 30 min video that if done regularly 3-4/week produces amazing results. i dont like alot of silly dance steps - i like to get my workout in fast. it really takes so little time but targets and isolates the muscle group so well that it really works.this video is why i still have a vhs player!!! thanks to this video i can wear a tiny bikini on the beach and look great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it...
I am a crunch fan.I bought an abs video by crunch several years ago and still own it today. So when I decided to expand my collection, I sought out this video. The exercises in it are very efficient. The workout is 30 minutes and split up so beautifully that you do not even realize how much you have worked your muscles until after it is done.It is a great way to get toned up in a short amount of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Owwww and wow
I admitt, I don't do a lot of leg/butt exercizes, but this tape is grueling yet worth it!I found it to be easy to follow along to, motivating, and a great work-out.I could see the results within a few weeks.By the time you're on the floor with the weight on your hip, you'll really really feel it.It's fast-paced, it works, and it's addictive once you get going. It really works those glute muscles, you'll feel it and cringe through the exercizes, then breathe a sigh of relief when you get to stretch those muscles out at the end. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars put a smile on you're face
I liked this video a lot, and it is a wonderful aerobic exercise. Tracy gives you a lot of energy and is very encouraging. I like that there are little segments, so when i'm short on time I'll only do one or two segments. Its great everyone should own it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun, great way to move up from beginner.
I think Tracy York is one of the most underrated choreographers out there.I started out exercising with the Buns of Steel Platinum series, and her aerobics segments were always the most fun -- especially in Buns and Abs of Steel 2000 for Beginners and Hips and Thighs of Steel (while the last one definitely takes time to learn, it's a blast once you get it!).This workout definitely takes some time to master, but if you like dancy workouts, its worth learning. It helped me move up to intermediate workouts.Plus its short, so I still use it on days when I'm running late, or as a short cardio before doing weights. Moreover, although I own more than 100 videos, its the one that I consistently return to when I need some motivation or familiarity. And one comment in response to people who complain about Tracy's failure to slowly explain each step.If she did, the video would have a fairly short shelf life because you'd be bored with the slowness as soon as you learned the routine. Most good routines just take a little time and effort to learn; it's that simple.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very difficult to follow
I've tried this video several times, but I can't seem to follow along in certain sections. I agree with some of the other reviewers who say you need a dance background. I find it really hard to follow the dance moves - maybe I'm not very coordinated, but it's frustrating. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you can learn new dance moves quickly or are extremely coordinated.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother unless you have a dance background
This video is VERY hard to follow. The cues are shouted out but not explained. It's hard to tell what, exactly, the instructor is doing with her feet.I'm assuming that people who've taken quite a few aerobics-based dance classes would find this appealing, but otherwise, it's like watching a French film with subtitles if you're not a Francophone.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Challenge but worth it
This is a wonderful video. The first time I did it I had trouble getting all the moves. But I kept moving and that was the most important thing. I didn't get bored though. Eversince then as I have been doing the video more and more, I am catching on slowly but surely. The best things about this video are that you won't getbored and that as long as you are trying you will burn calories. I have been alternating this video with the Crunch Sculpting video. I do aerobics one day and sculpting the next. (Their sculpting video is AWESOME by the way!!!) ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Total body workout in 30 minutes...
Debbee Sharpe leads you through this half hour routine which is not a bad one for those with limited time. There is a variety of exercises which hit all the muscle groups in a short time, some of these being compound movements which work the upper and lower body at the same time while providing a little extra challenge. You will need one set of dumbells ranging from 2-10 pounds.Debbee and her crew appear to be using anywhere from 2-5 pound weights, one of them being a man who is pointed out to be using slight heavier weights.
5-0 out of 5 stars Debbie Sharpe Is Awesome
I Love her energy! She has great cues and gives great instruction. The only problems I had with the video were that sometimes she seemed to lose count of the reps she was doing and you wind up doing maybe one or two more on one side, big deal~ You will need 2 to 10 pound weights for some of the workout. I consider this a difficult workout. I sweat through it and my muscles hurt afterwards. That's awesome. The group she has are all different sizes. It's not just a bunch of skinny blonds, which is nice. She is very motivating to lose the weight you want. She's a baby boomer and looks fabulous! I wish they made this on DVD, that's such a shame. To me it's the best Crunch workout available. It's not a bunch of crazy dance moves that are hard to memorize, it's just plain ol' get in shape movements! Keep moving and stay motivated!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video for Only 30 Minutes
I bought this video a while ago and I must say that for a 30 min segment it covers your major areas pretty well.I build and lose muscle quickly so after just one work out I see results, and can definitely feel it working. There is a slight lag time but I use that time to take some sips of water or switch my weights or grab my exercise mat for the floor exercises. My heart rate gets up, I can feel my muscles working, and the ab segment is definitely challenging. All in all, I would rate this video as great for the time that you spend using it. ... Read more

Good workout for its kind. Not as good as Crunch Boot Camp, but I felt the burn from time to time.LOL!The buns workout at the end is good too.My main complaint were the weird balance moves that I found hard to do and not very effective.

4-0 out of 5 stars good workout, bad music
A nice little 30-minute workout with interesting moves but marred by some of the most annoying music this side of Kenny G. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Anyone familiar with the take-no-prisoners approach to exercise of the Crunch gyms might think a Crunch yoga video was an oxymoron. But this half-hour tour into some basic stretching and breathing poses is actually gentle and well focused. The program is formatted to be accessible to all levels of fitness, though the advanced may not find as much challenge as other videos might offer. The presentation is serene and really does help calm the frazzled mind. The only real drawback is one common to any yoga tape: the difficulty of craning one's neck to see the TV screen while doing certain poses. But once you have the poses down and don't need to watch constantly, the effect will be more like being guided through a real, in-person class. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Busy PersonsYogaFic
The best thing about this tape is that it is short. If you are one of those people who wants to get a practice in everyday, but dont have much time, then this isa good tape to buy.Everything seems to be modified and Sara Ivanhoe sure does alot of talking and explaining.so it is ideal for beginners as well, but if you are looking for a serious challenge,I would reccommend other tapes..

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I bought this video and was sorely disappointed. It is definitely not a good choice as my first Yoga tape.Although there is someone in the class doing a modified version of the poses, I felt they weren't modified enough. Many times, it seemed like she was doing the exact same pose as the instructor, except for the fact that her knees were a little bent. This experience hasn't soured me on yoga, though.I'll just be more thorough in my research before I make a purchase. It has, however, soured me on the Crunch series. This is the second Crunch tape I've purchased and I was unhappy with both.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sara Ivanhoe "Joy Of Yoga". A Sound and Enjoyable Practice
I am definitely a yoga tape junkie (w/ 100 Yoga programs between VHS/DVD/CD) and 9 years of daily practice. I also take weekly classes with a fabulous teacher as well. I'm only mentioning this for the sake of background.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great lower body workout!!!
In just the first few minutes I began to feel the burn This workout works all the leg muscles. You will feel as though you have run a marathon!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely great for beginners+
I just bought this dvd and have done it 3 times, sweated up a storm, and had a lot of fun.The instructor is totally adorable to watch, has a great body, looks great doing everything, and does not insult me with irritating motivational hollering. She just gives some counts and acts enthusiastic. That's what I want in a video exercise instructor.
2-0 out of 5 stars Way Too Easy
This is a competent, fun dvd. However, it focuses mostly on choreography at the expense of sweat. Let's put it this way: I'm a semi-regular exerciser, but I'm also fat - and I barely breathed hard. It's a fun workout if you just want to get your [...] off the couch and do something for a half hour, but not so great for a serious cardio workout. ... Read more

"Don't waste this move!" calls out the instructor, a hunky male surrounded by a class of young, sleek, super-slender women. His instruction is masterful: he cues ahead of each move, so that you hear the instructions in time to perform the steps successfully. He breaks down the moves into their simplest components first, teaching one part at a time--sometimes slow-motion, sometimes arms and footwork separately--so that you get them. Then he builds the moves into patterns complex enough to make your mind (as well as your body) spin. The steps are low-impact at first, getting progressively higher-impact as the workout progresses. (One participant shows low- impact modifications throughout.) The moves also get more complicated, with more intricate footwork and fancier arm movements. If you're a coordinated intermediate-advanced aerobic-dance fan, you'll really enjoy this 57-minute workout. The energy is high from start to finish, and the pace is intense--you'll be drenched in sweat. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video!
This is one of my favorite videos. Once you get the moves down it's a blast. You'll need some room for this one, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!
This tape is AWESOME!! I am now looking online to see if he has any others!I've only done it one time and I LOVE it...It's all in what you like and what u are looking for. I was looking for high impact and something to keep my attention and this is great!I have several tapes/dvds and this is the best by far, other than my Donna Richardson and Zumba!I love this, u don't feel like u're working out, it's just fun!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great aerobic workout
I have had this tape for about 5 years now and ALWAYS come back to it. It is high/low mix and is very challenging, but very fun, as well. The music is good, also. It is fast-paced, but it really keeps you working. I highly recommend it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun dance workout
This is great beginner dance workout.Great for the days you don't want feel like working out so you put this tape in and dance.Even if you don't get all the steps just have fun the instructor is enthusiastic and has some moves.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible, horrible camera work
I would have enjoyed this video if it weren't for the fact that the camera man /editing team sucked horribly. The camera only did a minimum of long shots (which are absolutely necessary in an exercise video) and insisted upon switching angles ever 3 seconds. There were an abnormal number of close-ups that blocked off any view of the feet and so, as a new viewer, I became lost very, very quickly as to what steps I was supposed to do.So quit it with the torso shots and show me the foot movements, already!1-0 out of 5 stars This is not aerobics....
....this is a bad hip-hop dance class.I would say that I'm at an intermediate aerobics level.I didn't even really break a sweat with this tape.I don't even think a beginner would break a sweat. I love fitness videos and this is one of the worst I've come across lately. This tape tries way too hard to have "flava".Really annoying. Then again I could probably tolerate that if I got a workout from it.It's a 30 minute tape and 23 minutes are spent learning the "funky" moves.A real waste of time. Also, I found it annoying that the instructor and her cohorts and wearing cumbersome baggy jeans during this workout. ...
