4-0 out of 5 stars The Thin Blue Line
This is a documentary of a 1976 cop-killing in Dallas, in which all the evidence, at least the way it's presented here by director/writer Errol Morris, indicates the wrong man was convicted. The whole movie consists of interviews with witnesses and those involved with the case, with the camera used to show and reshow various scenes as they are recounted. Good as far as it goes, with much concern over motives of witnesses and their revelation of "truth" - but seriously lacking in drama. Philip Glass wrote the music, which is haunting. Worth a watch.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVING AND HATING THE GENIUS OF ERROL MORRIS
This film sums up my love-hate relationship with Errol Morris's work.First of all, one has to acknowledge right at the outset that, on purely aesthetic terms, this is an absolutely brilliant piece of work.It is hands down one of the most fascinating pieces of filmmaking I have ever seen and manages to turn the normally staid documentary format into an utterly unique cinematic experience.Morris makes pseudo-filmmaker Michael Moore's work look like the sophomoric video camera-wielding amateurism that it is.This is the work of a truly gifted filmmaker, which is both the strength and weakness of this film.
5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, sad, disturbing...
Great documentary. At first I thought some of the characters were purposely cast in the film just to make it funny until I realized it was a true documentary. Hard to believe people like that actually exist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Red Cell -- The True Story
Whoever said that this movie did not tell much of the Red Cell story, wasn't concentrating.I would suggest really paying attention when you watch it again. It's there, if you understand something of the then-environment in which Red Cell was set up.It's there, one just has to concentrate and know one's environment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Demo Dick Does It Again!
When all is said and done one has to admit that if "they" had listened to Marcinko then maybe some true terrorist threats could have been averted. These guys did what they were supposed to do.Just like most jobs, do it too well and someone will come down on you.The film is short, but for a rental, worth the price.Tame by today's standards, but they only showed us what they "wanted" to show us.I think it stands on its own!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Ah Lays Pipes, Dats All Ah Does, Ah Lays Pipes"
When this was released in '94, we were more concerned about courting dictators (oops, I meant proletarian internationalists) and delivering pizzas to the Turd World. I mean, weren't we overreacting to the "terrorist threat"? Perhaps it was just a misunderstanding between oriental and occidental cultures? Back then we lived in harmony with the rest of the world (i.e., France, Germany, and any other country with cradle to the grave socialism and legalized drugs). In '04, when the U.S. President responds to this "desperate cry from the oppressed", he is viewed as being more evil than the "freedom fighters" who decimated over 3,000 Americans in one day (before lunch even commenced). ISN'T DIVERSITY JUST WONDERFUL? ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars This same corrupt government...
Has killed alot more people in Iraq than Waco. Ours and theirs all for some made up excuse about "Weapons of Mass Destuction" and Religous Zealots. Sound familiar? The only problem the war is taking us down a terrible path.

5-0 out of 5 stars Congress rips them up!
This video will show you hands down the corruption of the government. Unlike 911, this was not covered up very well at all. A lot of evidence was avaiable.
5-0 out of 5 stars Really Disturbing!
Many people remember the Waco standoff that occured a long time ago. What most people probably have ingrained in their minds is the "cult leader" David Koresh and the images of the compound burning to the ground after a long standoff.A lot of people have the belief that Koresh was some kind of madman who thought he was God.He was accused of being a child molester and was credited for the breakdown and deaths of his followers.Furthermore, many people feel the cult committed mass suicide when the FBI stormed Mount Carmel Center and when the building was burning. Most people feel the cult was at fault for not agreeing with the FBI on reasonable terms. Most people feel the cult was brainwashed by Koresh and followed along with everything that he said.Nothing could be farther from the truth, because of strong evidence after the nightmare was over, and this one-of -a- kind documentary pretty much proves it!!

Billed first as the lurid downfall of a president and then as the overreaching of a politically motivated prosecutor, this unprecedented look into heretofore sacrosanct federal grand jury proceedings and the precursor to Congressional impeachment hearings is fascinating on many levels both prurient and historical. The four-hour exchange between the first president ever to appear before a sitting grand jury is at times riveting and infuriating, as President Clinton seeks to split legal hairs over the definition of sex and the word Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cigar, Mr. President?
By now, you either own this video or you do not and never will.Clinton bashers love it and Clinton supporters try to pretend it doesn't exist. No one can deny that it is a document of lasting historical significance. There are many interesting, if oftentimes uncomfortable, segments in these four hours of grand jury testimony, such as Clinton's inane argument over the definition of the word "is" and his convoluted ideas about what really constitutes sexual intercourse. For me, though, one single moment makes this video worth every single penny.Clinton was obviously not expecting any questions about his novel cigar technique, and the look on his face when the subject is broached is absolutely priceless.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money..
If you feel compelled to see him lie, buy it.Otherwise, forget it.I bought it as a collector's item.

3-0 out of 5 stars Serial Killers 101...except for Manson
I also agree with John Faye. Ted Bundy. Edmund Kemper or another Serial Killer would have made this Video set a must. As explained by Mr Faye, Charles Manson was a mastermind for mass murder, but not, by any means, a serial killer. 1-0 out of 5 stars Thank you, John Fay!
Before I start, I HAVEN'T seen these videos and am now in two minds as to whether to bother or not. 3-0 out of 5 stars Manson is NOT a Serial Killer
The chief reason why I gave this otherwise well-made collection/series 3 instead of 5 stars is because they decided to include Charles Manson, which would've been fine had the collection been focused not on serial killersbut on bizarre cults. Manson is not a serial killer. His was a "fly bynight operation" at most. More along the lines of spree/mass killings.A & E should know better. They should've instead included Ted Bundy orthe Hillside Stranglers. THEY are "serial killers" in the"proper" sense of the word. I'm not making this up, it's justreality. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The history of organized crime in America is given a lively treatment in this video narrated by actor Dennis Farina. The focus is on Charles "Lucky" Luciano and his longtime associate Meyer Lansky, who were both tutored by legendary gambler Arnold Rothstein and went on to amass power and riches during the years of Prohibition. Ancillary characters, including Al Capone and Ben "Bugsy" Siegel, are profiled in some depth, and other outlaws of the day, such as John Dillinger and Pretty Boy Floyd, killers who gathered headlines while the real mobsters quietly consolidated their influence, are mentioned in passing. The video is consistently entertaining, though one criticism is that some of the inside knowledge it purports to relate, such as the identities of triggermen in notable New York City hits in the late 1920s, is rooted more in myth than fact. But despite the occasional excess, the narration does mostly stick to the facts as they are known, and the story of how a few uneducated teenagers from the ethnic slums of New York came to control a virtual empire of crime by the 1950s is very well told. 5-0 out of 5 stars The pulchritude of Eleanor Parker
Eleanor Parker is just as beautiful as Monroe, but her breasts are smaller.5-0 out of 5 stars The documentary that dares to tell all...
This documentary will expose the truth about how Marilyn Monroe died.It places Robert kennedy and Peter Lawford at Marilyn's house on August 04, 1962, as the wiretappers listen into a heating argument between Robert Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe. Robert Kennedy and Peter Lawford leave a unconscious Marilyn lying in bed, the Mob steps in to adminster the barbiturates and execute Marilyn Monroe thus accomplishing the perfect crime or so they thought. This documentary is hosted from Marilyn Monroe's house, with re-enactments, it also has a high state of credibility because of important key witnesses. This documentary also backup other documentaries that I have seen of Marilyn Monroe, that you suspect that it has to be true. So I hope that her death will be further investigated and that important documents are released from the government that the FBI, CIA, Key Witnesses and probably the Mob has on her. The only thing that could dig even deeper to find out the truth of Marilyn Monroe's death is if the papers that Lawrence X. Cusack Jr. found in connecticut about John F. Kennedy & Marilyn Monroe are accepted as fact and not as a forge.Their just have to be someone with information or a tape of what really happen to Miss Monroe.I'm her biggest fan I wish I could had met her. This documentary opened my eyes on how the world really works, like Marilyn said this world can be a lonely and cold place, she has inspired me to be a better person.Happy Birthday Marilyn Monroe, Norma Jean Baker, I will always keep you in my heart.Overall the best documented documentary of the Century period.... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great! But somewhat unfinished
In a prelude to the forthcoming bio-opic of his assasination film by oliver stone. This video features some great footage of Dr. King after his transformation in 1965 to the war on poverty, discrimination, and unequal distribution of wealth in this great country. Although I felt that it could of contained info and footage of James Earl Ray's confession and the Senate Commitee Hearings on his killing in 1977. But very good video

5-0 out of 5 stars Great And Informative Piece. Very Important.
"The Assassination Of Martin Luthor King Jr." is a great documentary that presents the truth with enough evidence to back it up. The same guy who made this film also made the equally effective documentary:"The Assassination Of JFK." Both these pieces are filled withfilm, information, and intriguing narration that makes it's point clear. There is no doubt in my mind that King was killed by a conspiracy. And thatit was most likely J.Edgar Hoover. This film is effective, informative andimportant. I think it should be shown in schools all over America. This isa great film.

3-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive Coverage
I bought this video after reading a book by author Jason Moss entitled THE LAST VICTIM which explored the complexities of the notorious CLOWN KILLER a.k.a. JW Gacy. What I was disappointed in was that this documentary byA&E repeats the same clips throughout the entire piece and thenarration is nothing we haven't heard in the news.I was hoping to learnwhat the media had not told us, as this was an optional assignment for acollege criminology class, and I was hopeful that it would shed light onthe sickness that was John Gacy. This video fell far short and I shouldhave saved my money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Average but Expected More Insight
This isn't the first A&E documentary on Serial Killers I've seen and unfortunately it wasn't as informative as I expected.Having to view the material for a college criminolgy course, I was disappointed that much ofthe info [and even more so the images} were just repeats of what local newsstations aired when the horror was unfolding before our nation's eyes.Iwas hoping this film would delve deep enough to bring us more info.3-0 out of 5 stars Informative But Lacking
I wanted to view this documentary as a result of reading author Jason Moss's book, THE LAST VICTIM, which focused mainly on the serial killer, J.W. Gacy.I expected more, but got much less.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars are liberals that clueless
Democrats seem to be bent on making sure that Regan gets discredited in some way. He won the Cold War through a nonliberal strategy, and this obviously upsets them because it proved them wrong once again. I have been reading through some of these other reviews and some moron is comparing Iran/Contra to Bush/Enron. Do you idiots know anything about anything??? All the people involved in the Enron scandal have been prosecuted under the Bush administration. On top of that, the whole scandal occurred under the watch of the great Bill Clinton. It is as if liberals look at the facts, and then come to the most illogical conclusion possible. If there is a serious problem that arises under a certain administration, you can usually say that it did not start under him, but on presidents past. Not to say presidents have no responsibility or that they don't control anything, but blaming Bush for terrorism, a bad economy, or corporate scandals is like blaming Clinton for AIDS, high drug use, and or the bad economy that he had in his first term. Back to Iraq/Contra scandal...I think a lot of people don't realize that we were trying to fight and win a Cold War during this time. Yes what they did was illegal, but I believe the cause was a good one. Communists had the rest of the country out gunned, not out manned. If the Communists did take power, they would have been a minority ruling a majority. It is well documented that the Sandinistas had the financial support of Castro. It is hard to imagine how idiots today still can not see what is obvious to the educated. The Communists in Nicaragua were following the same pattern that they did in several other countries (including Vietnam, Cambodia, and El Salvador). Guess what happened when Communists took over those countries....they slaughtered those that did not agree with them!!! You can say that fighting a war kills people, but sometimes NOT fighting a war kills even more. It is difficult for me to understand how liberal can hide behind these facts. The fact is, the people of Nicaragua did not want to be communist, and that was shown in their elections in 1990 when the anti communist candidate won with 55% of the vote. The idea that the US was trying to impose its will on a country that wanted nothing to do with us is completely false.

2-0 out of 5 stars do not buy it.... take my word for it.
stupid, boring, irrelevent, changes subject every 2 mins,3-0 out of 5 stars It May 'Blow Your Mind' (no pun intended)
The Iran-Contra scandal, as this video illustrates in the beginning, is probably one of the most ignored events of the 1980s.The film takes an obvious 'conspiracy theory' approach, which, although sometimes entertaining, sometime relies too much on 'documents' and 'information' that aren't actually seen. However, the video does create a very valid view on US policy in Latin America, and the possible role of the CIA in covert operations that may not be in America's best interest (at least in the wake of recent events). There's a link, at least in the video's mind, between a 'shadow' government that might potentially suspend civil rights when dealing with criticism (something we have dealt with recently, in terms of war protestors), and what happened to Japanese-Americans during WWII.Narrated by Elizabeth Montgomery, this video brings a definite POV of not only Iran-Contra, but of US foreign policy. It is a video that will definitely spark conversation...which is good, even if you don't agree with all the conclusions presented. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Gets better as it progresses
The cover of this video is deceptive. It actually has very little to do with Jeffery Dahmer.Nonetheless, it has some facinating stories about some other, less famous, serial killers. The best story is about the guy who worked in the hospital.'Murder by Number' starts off boorish, but gets better towards the end.

4-0 out of 5 stars A little uneven in presentation
There is a lot to like about this documentary. It touches on numerous aspects of the serial murder phenomenon, and is unafraid of being critical of how the phenomenon is represented.Especially impressive is the segment on how the "serial murder problem" is misrepresented. There are also segments dealing with several lesser known offenders such as Bobby Joe Long, Christine Falling, and Wesley Alan Dodd, including interviews with each.My only major criticism is that the documentary too readily embraces the brain trauma explanation for serial offending, when there are other causal factors that may do as good of a job (or better) of explaining the etiology of serial homicide.

5-0 out of 5 stars For Anyone Even Remotely Interested In Serial Killers
I first saw this documentary on CNN back in '93 and have watched it several times since then. It's one of the most informative, interesting, documentaries on the "phenonemon" of serial murder out there. They really go in depth. Various known killers are feautured, includinginterviews with 3 different ones; a male nurse convicted of murdering 37 ofhis patients, a woman convicted for the killings of children she babysat, and a child murderer who was executed by hanging several years back inWashington state. This movie was okay. I cant really say I loved it though. John Gotti in some ways is a lot like the character that is played in the movie but on the other hand, they are some what different. I've done a lot of research on John Gotti and his family and I have to say, I did expect more from the film. It covers a lot of things a true Gotti fan already knows and could get boring at times.

1-0 out of 5 stars Soooo Soooooo
This video was alright, I don't really like A&E to boaring and drags out about useless facts. If you like John Gotti and mafia stuff you should get it, but be prepared it's not what you expect.
