3-0 out of 5 stars "And God bless the United States of America!"
"The Blues Brothers" is a very interesting movie.I enjoyed it, and I can see why some people consider it a timeless classic, but it's not one of **my** timeless classics. It's too deeply flawed.
5-0 out of 5 stars GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the classics
If you want to get a taste of whatthe late 70's and early 80's were like, you must add this movie to your collection! In the spirit of an adventure movie, the two heroes, played by Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi, are looking for money to save their old orphanage.Along the way, they pay homage to some of the best rythmn and blues music of the 20th century. With performances by notables like James Brown and Ray Charles, this movie can't be beat. The movie is worth its price and then some for just the final half hour alone. This is the "good version" not the cut-up one they play on TV all of the time.R rating is more for the language and the cartoon-like violence, but is reasonably appropriate for age 13+.There is no sexual content and, unlike most "comedies" today, there's not a fart joke to be found. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars ASHAMED!!!
I am a little ashamed that my first review on Amazon wasn't this movie, instead I reviewed King Kong (new remake) - SHAME ON ME!!! This movie is fantastic! I remember watching it as a very young child and was mezmerized by it! It has a story, a creative concept, and a steller cast. The idea at the time was exciting because it was around the time of The Greatest American Hero and has some of the same kind of humor in it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great DVD - Disney please re-release it
This is one of those movies that would have been a massive hit if it had had a star in it. However it is still a great movie with fantastic action set pieces and pretty good jokes. If you want to ask Disney to let you know when it's re-released use the link on the Disney DVD website and then follow instructions to be 'emailed when it is available'. (Can't post the link here on Amazon as it's a no no to include web addresses so do a search for Condorman on the Disney DVD site).
5-0 out of 5 stars this is an awsome movie

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally Anamorphic
Eventhough the sound is not upgraded (Dolby Surround), the picture is. Now you can watch this extremely entertaining movie in an anamorphic widescreen. It looks nice and crisp on my 16:9 TV. Same thing goes for the sequel "Jewel of the Nile" except for a better audio sound with 4.0 surround. Hopefully Fox will release a new ANAMORPHIC version of "The Abyss" and "The edge". The latest release of "Young Frankenstein" is now available for the fist time ever in anamorphic widescreen. Audio remains MONO though, unfortunately.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pure Adventure Fun On The Highest Level!
In 1984, when this movie was releashed, movie lovers were in the grip of Indiana Jones (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was releashed in that same year, the second instalment in the Indiana series), and so this movie was labeld an Indiana Jones clone.

4-0 out of 5 stars "A Sherman Can Give You a Very Nice Edge.."
"Kelly's Heroes" is an odd, yet quite enjoyable war movie. This 1970's comedic, cinematic take on WWII, mixes genres such as the suicide mission/action film, the crime/caper film and the army comedy. In other words, take a lot of "The Dirty Dozen", mix a bit of "Ocean's 11" and add in some "M*A*S*H" plus "Catch-22" and you'll have "Kelly's Heroes". The film features a battered U.S. Army infantry unit, which has been on the front lines since landing at Omaha Beach. All they have on there minds is a little R&R, that includes booze & broads. That is until Pvt. Kelly (Clint Eastwood) interrogates (with a bottle of brandy) a captured German intelligence officer, who tells him about a Nazi convoy transporting 16 million dollars worth of gold bars. Kelly hatches a plan for his unit to go thirty miles into enemy held territory and steal the gold from a small French bank, that is being vigorously guarded by three Nazi 'Tiger' tanks. I know in this day and age it might sound rather odd, but this is one war movie, that is not only suspenseful, but is also a whole lot of fun! Is it an accurate portrayle of WWII? Probably not. (I doubt there were too many hippie tank commanders during the "Big One") This 1970 release pretty much through its' hilarious, sharp scripthas more of a Vietnam era mentality, which satiracally makes fun of both the army and it's attitudes about war. Unlike the John Wayne style war films of the past, these guys are hardly trying to be patriotic heroes, but they are just trying to make it through the war with their a**'s intact (and maby make a little profit on the side). The film features a large, talented cast, some of whom, were already stars and others, who later went on to become big names in both television and film. This includes Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland, Don Rickles, Caroll O'Connor, Gavin MacLeod, Stuart Margolin, Harry Dean Stanton and Len Lesser (Uncle Leo from TV's "Seinfeld"). How can you go wrong with a cast like that? If your in the mood for a good action picture with some big laughsmixed in, then I would highly recommend Kelly's Heroes".

3-0 out of 5 stars flawed but good overall
Many reviews are billing this as a funny World War II film. I'm not sure I agree, if only because 1) I don't remember laughing one time, and 2) its attempts at humor are interspersed with scenes of grave seriousness. Regardless, not a bad movie, but various devices leave you scratching your head and wondering why they bothered to put that in the film.

You can chalk it up to good timing and a heavy dose of video-game synergy, but this 1990 hit remains the box-office champ of independent films, with a total gross of $135 million. Of course the Turtles began as a phenomenally successful Nintendo video game, so it was a given that the movie would be a hit with its target audience of rabid young video addicts. This is what comic books fans call "the origin story," in which we learn how a foursome of small turtles were mutated by a green radioactive goo and turned into human-sized turtle crime fighters. Their large rodent mentor, Splinter, teaches them to master the martial arts. They're also gifted pop musicians, by the way (think of them as amphibious Spice Guys), so they can rock the house while they're cracking a crime wave with the help of their cute friend and television reporter April O'Neil (Judith Hoag). The script is terrible, of course, but countless millions of children don't seem to care, as long as the Turtles keep ordering pizza and dispensing their wisecracking brand of justice. Read more

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...
5-0 out of 5 stars Cowabunga Dudes! TMNT is a classic!
Like many kids who were around in the late 80's/early 90's, I LOVE The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I watched the saturday morning cartoon that aired on CBS, my brother and I played the TMNT video games on NES(Remember the very first one? I could play it 'til my thumbs bleed!) and Super Nintendo, my brother and I collected the TMNT action figures, and watched our VHS copies of the first two TMNT films so many times, that they wore out.

I loved watching this movie when I was little, then I stopped, thinking I grew out of it. Just recently I decided to watch it again and to my surprise it was just as good, if not better, than when I first saw it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Better Than What Followed
It is often true that someone starts with a good idea, and thenmany try to copy it. Often, the people who try to copy come off with a formula that is not quite so good; another person tries another way, and just doesn't catch it. This goes on until the original formula is all but lost. I'm not really into car chases, but this movie is actually quite good. Reynolds plays the Bandit. High playing rollers make a bet with Reynolds that he can't drive to Texas and deliver an amount of untaxed beer back to Georgia in so many hours. Of course, Reynolds takes the bet. After obtaining the famous black fire bird, he goes to obtain the aid of his friend Snowman. Snowman is unhappy with his domestic life and figures: "What the hey?" So far, the formula works well, because even though he is doing something illegal, no one really needs to get hurt. The worst real crime is tax evasion. (And that will be around forever.) Also, Snowman rather than leaving a herum of airhead fans, leaves a domestic life he is not happy with. (So Snowman remains an everyman rather than becoming a fake Hollywood creation.) They make it to Texas and pick up the beer. (Obviously, the trip back to Georgia is where they have to be more careful.) But as we may have guessed, here comes trouble. Sally Fields (Frog) is a runaway bride who seeks sanctuary with Bandit. (Another element of realism. A girl being pushed into a wedding she doesn't want.) Bandit and Frog soon strike up a friendship, but more trouble is brewing. Sheriff Buford (Jackie Gleason) comes on the scene, and offers some entertainment. It is almost too funny when 3 young men are trying to strip a car, Jackie Gleason sits back and watches for a moment, closes his cigarette lighter quite loud, and when the 3 turn in panic to see a sheriff, Buford tells the 3 not to mind him. We soon learn that Buford is the 'would have been father in law' to Frog. So his chase starts personal to get Frog back, but he is able to hide it under his duty as Bandit causes some havoc trying to avoid capture. Bandit and Buford converse a little over the radio, and in a wonderful scene of irony, Bandit and Buford meet each other FACE TO FACE in a snack bar. (Though Buford doesn't know that the man who kindly pays for his lunch is the bandit!) What differentiates this movie from other chase movies is that rather than being repulsed by the law, we are offered generous amounts of comedy from the sheriff chasing the 'hero?' SIDE NOTE: Jackie Gleason wrote in a lot of his own dialogue to avoid being just another redneck sheriff. Moving on, the chase continues through Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and finally back into Georgia. During this run, Snowman is sadly beaten up in a bar by some not so nice people. But as sad as this scene is, it's another part of the formula that works. The hero should not be invulnerable. (One reason Adam West liked doing Batman was that Batman did NOT have any super powers.) Moving on to the finish, another part of the formula kicks in. Bandit reminds us he is human when he realizes he may have 'bitten off more than he can chew.' (Pardon the cliche.) Buford has suffered major vehicular damage, but he is able to continue the chase. I won't give away the ending, but they cleverly avoid the 'cliche' happily ever after ending and keep things rolling. And the end is not entirely without some respect for Sheriff Buford. Even if you don't really like chase movies, this is one you should consider making an exception.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun film. Widescreen chops the picture
Being a huge fan, first in childhood when the Corvette and Trans Am were THE COOLEST cars, and later in teen years when I became a real car buff, I not only own several model Trans Ams, a real back/gold "Bandit" Trans Am, a Trans Am Firehawk, but also the VHS and first two DVD releases of this movie (Smokey I and Pursuit Pack)both of which are widescreen to my disgust.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Really Great 70's Flick
I caught the tail end of this movie on cable a couple of weeks ago and it took me back almost 30 years ago when first I saw it in the theater.I was 15 and was with my whole family at the movie theater and I remember cringing at every swear word because my mom was with us.It seemed like a lot of profanity back then, but these days you'd hardly notice it.

Whoppi Goldberg is a delight as the computer clerk working for a bank who receives a cryptic message from a US agent who needs assistance escaping from a foreign country. This is a great movie, full of puns, inuendo's and one liners that only being inside a human body could pull off.It is about a lonely white blood cell named Osmosis Jones (played by kid rock) who is on a body wide search of a suspect virus that no one believes he has seen.Drex (David Hyde Pierce) is the fast talking, proper cold aid who, after seeing the commitment Jones has, joins him in the search for Thrax (Lawrence Fishburn).Bill Murry plays the host body, along with Chris Elliot as his best friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why No DVD Release?!!!
Short and simple!A True Classic!A shame it has not been released on DVD yet.Great Characters, Lots of over-the-top Action, Stunt-man's Timeless Masterpiece.Starsky & Hutch, Running Scared, Lethal Weapon (all Buddy-buddy cop movies) havetaken from. Although its humor will most likely offend virtually every one in some way, the blend of action & comedy never-the-less works.4 Stars for a great Stunt Team.Oh, and NO CGI!!! ;-)

This is truly one of the greats....Arkin and Caan are a couple of cops and get into all kinds of misadventures. The comedy is fast and furious, and believe you me this is the original Lethal Weapon!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars underrated gem
Great, great movie. As for the controversial climax in the woman's bathroom at the Super Bowl... it's a gem. But, homophobics beware -- the scene is deliciously manipulative, the director Richard Rush injecting it with a charge of homo-eroticism that is not to be believed.See it for that, and a whole lot more.Even the throw-away dialogue heard in the background, easy to miss on first viewing, is hysterical when revisted. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great crappy movie
this movie is far far far away from being a masterpiece, but i've loved it since i was a kid. the only problem is, it's almost impossible to find, anywhere. they really need a dvd version!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for Stewart fans, suspensful, but not outstanding.
Masterminds is a hostage suspense story similar to Toy Soldiers. In this case Patrick Stewart is the culprit, ostensibly setting up security for a private grade school.Vincent Kartheiser is a teenage computer wiz who dropped off his little sister at the school, then stayed behind to pull a prank with the school's new computer system, getting trapped inside - hidden. There's plenty of action & suspense, but the plot's slightly confusing - it's not clear what Stewart's team is really up to, and some of it seems far-fetched even for this type of movie. In other words, it will keep you interested, but is hard to follow.Fans of Patrick Stewart probably won't be disappointed, except for the fact he's the bad guy.Brenda Fricker is good as the principal, the rest of the cast competent but not outstanding.

2-0 out of 5 stars UGGH
I might say that it was not that a great movie, nor even a good movie at that. First we have antagonists who are most likely mercks, but lack the skills to prove that they are. Even their leader, considering his role, is not appropriate to be a British SAS. Also, they are very "soft", to consider that they are equipped with dartguns. I got irritated also that there were many times that the protagonist will surely be caught but the criminals were so stupid. The film also lacks of realism, not much crowds outside the gate, considering that these are children held hostages. Mines exploding very near policemen, but they were not much affected by the blasts, etc. Well I need not go on. For me, don't waste your money buying this movie. If you want, just rent it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best lethal Weapon Since the first one
The Lethal Weapon series has been a great item in the whole action/comedy buddy genre. The first was instant classic from the 80's.Easily the best. All of its sequels were terrific, however just short of being as good. However this fourth installment I believe may come to being as good as the first.I would not say better, but I do not which one I would rather watch.Their are just so many great things to take note of in this film such as the car chase scene and the ifhgitng sequences performed by Jet Li.Brinigin in Jet ;Li was a great idea, plus compared to his other american films that followed (Romoeo Must Die, Kiss of the Dragon, The One) the movie ws deinetly one of his better films (even though he was not in the starring role). And the comedy could not have any better with the addition of Chris Rock.Although I do not think he's that funny in real life, his antics defiently gave me a good laugh in this movie.Anyway, here is the plot.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great to see Danny and Mel together again
When "Casino" opened, some complained that Joe Pesci's performance was a retread of his work in "GoodFellas". I made the defence that his character was the same sort of person, and it would be inappropriate to act in a different way.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Americanization of Emily
A brilliant and moving film. The actors are superb and the chemistry between Julie Andrews and James Garner is totally believable. This is one of the most literate films you are likely to encounter. Perhaps for some people's taste and the minimal-length dialogue standards of today's films it is too loaded with talk. But for those of us who like to listen to attractive articulate people convey their passionate points of view it is a delight. It is strong on intelligence and irony and does a great job of portraying England on the eve of the Normandy invasion. It is a film about the senselessness of heroic posturingand is especially pertinent now in view of the recent follies and fiascoes of military action.

5-0 out of 5 stars james garner is the most underrated american film actor
arthur hiller directed this great movie while a young man, and never came near it again. this is julie andrews's actual first movie (pre-poppins) and remains her favorite, as well as the favorite of its star, the always undervalued james garner. he stars here as a procurer (read black marketeer and pimp) for military brass in the european theater in the days leading up to d-day. thru a bizarre set of circumstances, this professional coward becomes the first sailor killed on omaha beach -- a lionization leading to dismay when he shows up alive a week later. (as an aside, i especially enjoyed this tack, having had a high school teacher back in 1971 whose ship having been blown up in pearl harbor had been the first citizen of nashville tennessee to be killed in ww2 -- only to emerge weeks later, to the consternation of his family who had been voted a generous pension by the city fathers, who had to cancel the statue that had been ordered.) contrary to what many believed at the time, this movie is not anti-war; it is anti-glorification of war. it is fully cognizant of the need to fight at times, while refusing to acknowledge that there is any nobility in it. a great script by paddy chayefsky, and great acting by the stars and supporting players melvyn douglas, james coburn, and joyce grenfell.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Different Julie in Her Movie Debut
Charlie Madison (James Garner) is the king of the black market. He is the attach for a Navy Admiral and his main job is to see that the Admiral and his cohorts are well taken care of.Emily Barham (Julie Andrews) is a war widow who works with the military as a driver. She is no nonsense and refuses to take advantage of her position. But they fall in love anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of the Funniest Comedies Ever
Also Robert DeNiro's best, Charles Grodin's best, and one of the best 'buddy' movies in movie history. DeNiro and Grodin play so well off each other every scene with them together(usually bickering, or DeNirothreatening Grodin with some act of violence)is a joy. All the 'minor' characters are top notch, from Kotto to Farina(my personal favorite), to the wiseguys to 'Red'; This movie is one of those you can watch over and over again, too many classic moments to even get started on. 'These people depend on tips for a living...'. If you haven't seen this movie, treat yourself. Then watch it again. Great music, too. Director Brest keeps it moving along at a nice pace, so much so you hardly realize it's 2 hours. That is rare nowadays...

5-0 out of 5 stars best buddy movie every
This has to be my favourite buddy movie ever, Although a reluctant pairing there is a sentiment built towards the end. You get the feeling with this film that the characters actually do carry on beyond the credits, Grodins best performance and Deniros best comedy (even better than meet the parents)

4-0 out of 5 stars Super Fun
I love this movie. The cast is great and the action is great. The story is just like a charlies angels plot should be.The hair and makeup SUCKS but its hard to make these girls ugly.I dont have a huge amount to say about it except it has alot of re-watch value and is well made fluff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful in soooo many ways.
The set design, the girls, the fight choreography...beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

4-0 out of 5 stars classic martial arts comedy for all ages
During the 90s, the words 'ninja' and 'comedy' made a successful team when it came to films. 3 Ninjas was definately one of these films. It wasn't pointless martial arts with over-the-top humor like some of Jackie Chan's flicks (nothing personal against Jackie Chan). 3 Ninjas did, however, have a decent plot with good acting and humorous moments. If you haven't seen this, you should definetly rent or buy it. Even if you've seen it a long time ago, it is worth viewing again. Like my review title says, all ages should enjoy 3 Ninjas. As for the DVD, there are no features to speak of which is unfortunate.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pro Ninjas
The storyline involves a father working for the FBI and spending most of his time trying to catch one particular weapons selling crime boss. His three sons have just spent the summer with their grandfather that is a ninja master. The grandfather is training them in the ways of a ninja. When the criminal visits the boys grandfather you realize he was a former student to their grandfather. Later he tries to kidnap the boys. The first attempt is a laugh riot since the three inept young men sent to do the job are gnarly dudes without a clue. Later the crime boss is successful at apprehending them and it falls upon their grandfather to rescue them.
