5-0 out of 5 stars This movie brings the novel Jane Austen wrote to life brilliantly!
I have read Jane Austen's novel called "Pride and Prejudice" many times, and when I saw that a movie version of it would be on television, I didn't have much hope that it would be a faithful rendering of the book. But when I watched the movie on television, it matched Jane Austen's novel, word for word. It was a masterful production, and the actors chosen to portray the characters were perfect in the roles they played. I knew I had to own a copy of this beautiful movie! (I had seen a shorter movie of "Pride and Prejudice" on television, and it bore very little resemblence to the novel written by Jane Austen.) I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves novels written by Jane Austen.

5-0 out of 5 stars closest to the book
I loved this version, it was the closest to the book of all the versions i have seen, including the 2005 one.Jennifer Ehle also to me is the most authentic Elizabeth of them all, and I would say overall the rest of the cast match the books characters more closely, with maybe Mr. Bennet being a little more humorous in this version than the book.I'm not sure about fashions in that time period, but I have a feeling it was the most authentic as far as fashion goes. For example, I think most women at that time period and of that class level and agewould never be seen in public with their hair down, it would always be up, but in the 2005 version Elizabeth goes to Meryton out in public with her hair down. Also, it was the most authentic as far as language goes, in the 2005 version phrases/passages were changed for a modern audience to understand it better, but I prefer it spoken as it is in the book.Jennifer Ehle and Susannah Harker meet the maturity aspect of the women in the book as opposed to other versions where they are portrayed as mentally much younger and naive, and sometimes even giddy.I would have to say colin Firth is my favorite Darcy too, even though I had no problem with the guy in the 2005 version. I've also seen a 1980's version, and I think something from the 1970's, as well as the old 1940's version, so I've seen a few.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking for Mr. Darcy
I have watched several versions of Pride and Prejudice, and loved them all.

5-0 out of 5 stars More Sex and the City = More Shoes!!!
Sex and the City is back again. This time there is more sex, more relationships and of course more drama. It's so good though, and addictive. Just by watching it, you are already a part of it, like their fifth girlfriend, with the same problems. It's funny and it's great all the way around!!!!
4-0 out of 5 stars I loved it one of the best series ever!!
I love sex and the city for it's great humor to realness that no other show has done before. I have to say I enjoyed season 3 better but I liked this season better then season 1 and 2. The season started off slow but picked up fast. This season deals with more maturing story lines. Carrie gets engaged, Smatha learns what love is, Charlette delas with a not so perfet marriage and Miranda gets pregnet. It's weird to see how the charactors have matured through out the first 4 seasons. I cant waut to watch season's 5 and 6.

4-0 out of 5 stars more sass, more sex and more drama from our favourite New York foursome
The fourth season of SEX AND THE CITY opens a new chapter of love, drama and, well...sex, for our favourite New York galsCarrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristen Davis) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall).

3-0 out of 5 stars Foreseeing PC Dystopia
A cautionary tale of political-correctness taken to its logical extreme in a leftist dystopia that enforces "equality" and no one is permitted the freedom of achievement or failure, since everyone is made to have the same ability ---whether they like it or not.Mediocrity and standardization are enforced on citizens by a totalitarian socialist government of well-meaning know-better elites (who are of course exempt from their own rules) until one young man rebels and threatens their order. In the vein of Orwell's "1984" or Animal Farm, this is a classic allegory for left-wing authoritarian hyprocrisy and supression of the individual's identity in favor of the "group."

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny results of America's communist revolution !
This is a funny dark sci-fi comedy based on Kurt Vonnegut's short story, an anti-communist allegory exploring the ultimate result of a communist revolution in America. The new subjects are required to submit to various handicaps to make them all "equal," including bands to stupify their brains, leg weights, etc. Of course it turns out it's all enforced by an elite class led by Christopher Plummer (The Sound Of Music, Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country).
3-0 out of 5 stars A freak chance never to be lived down
I haven't seen this film in ages, but I remember it being an impulse rent from a family member who has yet to live down this particular event.Essentially, the family felt the movie was pretty bad, bad enough to be the top reason we don't let anyone impulse rent a movie they've never heard of for fear of witnessing a cataclysmicly bad movie.I give it three stars because while watching I knew that it was a story that would make a great short story but was not something that could be properly transferred to film...and I was pleasently surprised to find out recently that it was indeed based on a short story as I felt lo those many years ago.Now I must go hunt down the short story, because unlike the presentation in the movie, I found the idea behind it fascinating and very much look forward to seeing the idea portrayed in the medium it was meant to be in.

4-0 out of 5 stars LOVE THE DVDS, NOT THE CASE
Obviously, the actual dvds are great. Season 2 is very good. I definately love it... 5 stars. The reason why I rate it 4 stars is because of the plastic case that the dvd's come in. Mine are always ripping and cracking. It looks pretty tacky when I keep having to tape up the sides. Getting the $200 set would be worth it if you dont have any of the seasons already.

4-0 out of 5 stars Trendy, Hot, Juicy Tales
When has there ever been a show that can compare to Sex and the City? Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte returned for a second season, continuing to sleep their way into love (if possible). These four leading ladies have become cultural icons; television will never be the same (and, depending upon one's perspective, this will be either an agreeable or despicable trend).
5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating story
This is decidedly one of the best written and acted comedies I've seen in a very long time.Carrie and company are strong, self-sufficient women who even dislike serious relationships and the prospect of marriage.I absolutely love this show. Every episode is fascinating and thought-provoking. Carrie, Miranda, Sam, and Charlotte are all wonderful to watch. I learn so much about myself and humans in general by watching this show. Anyone who has not experienced "Sex and the City" must do so as soon as possible. This is the best show to come to television in a long time.Viewing this DVD made me a weekly watcher of the HBO series.Everything you always wanted to know about women, men and sex as seen through the eyes of four ladies with something for everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars What are you talking about?I went to Smith!
So says Kristin Davis, as Charlotte, when confronted with the idea of performing a particular sex act. This hilarious and clever series has many clever lines and funny moments that pass in the blink of an eye. I can't believe it has taken me this long to finally watch the show that everyone has been talking about for eight years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sex and the City - Complete First Season
Excellent- I expected it to be great, but it was even better than expected, I received it must faster than I anticipated. The show is just great. I have seen the shows I missed andI am looking forward to completing the entire series of the show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous
Sex And The City is one of the comedies for the '90's, a slick, classy affair that's not afraid to push the boundaries to the limit. It's graphic (sort of) depiction of sex is ground-breaking, yet it doesn't forget it's main reason for being out there, to be funny.Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are exemplary as Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. The supporting players (Chris Noth, etc.) are helpful and the plotlines are racy and hilarious.

5-0 out of 5 stars Short & Bittersweet
This was a very short season because of 9/11 and its impact on The City. The episodes are all very good, with excellent character development and the usual witty repartee, but unfortunately there are only 8.If you are new to the series, start at the beginning and work your way through in sequence -- it's worth it.If you are an afficionado of the show, unfortunately you'll have to pay the price to own this season despite its shortcomings. But for the sake of completeness, it's a must have.

4-0 out of 5 stars This tape is a collector's item.
This tape is more of a "must have" for Jerry Seinfeld fans or diehard SNL fans. For others, you may want to think twice before spending good money on this one. That is only because of the length, a mere 32 minutes (and that includes the video company's opening credits). The comedic skits and comedy bits are very good. I believe this originally aired in 1992, a couple of years BEFORE the TV show "Seinfeld" hit its prime. Jerry's fans will like this tape a lot. Especially the "Superman" sketch and the "game show" sketch (where the contestants answer questions, using Jerry's trademark delivery style). Again, if you're a fan of anything "Seinfeld," grab it while you can. It already seems like a collector's item to me. If you're an SNL fan, be aware that the only skits on this tape (except for the opening bit, before the monologue) are the ones in which Jerry appear. The episode's other skits are not included. For fans of both Seinfeld and SNL, definitely purchase it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly enjoyable. Jerry at his Jerry-best.
This is a very enjoyable video if you are a Jerry Seinfeld fan. It starts with a sketch (4.10 minutes) with Phil Hartman playing Clinton and Dana Carvey playing Brown. They are talking about a political debate they are about to have. 4-0 out of 5 stars A real classic - collector's item
If you can still get your hands on this one, do it.This features Jerry at his younger comedian days along with the talented crews at Saturday Night Live.See how his nothingness evolved into His Royal Nothingness. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Where's the DVD?
Add me to the long list of Andy Griffith fans who would love to see this on DVD.Considering all the terribly unfunny comedies that have been released on DVD over the years, why not release one that actually works?
5-0 out of 5 stars Certainly dated but very good fun just the same
Andy Griffith an underrated actor (as another poster says)? Griffith is a total legend in his own time! This movie has some hilarious moments with Griffith largely responsible for it all though Murray Hamilton, Nick Adams, and Myron Mccormick are all good support. The scene where the latrine is rigged so the toilets salute (!) was too riske for 1958 but they got it pass censors somehow (a mystery). Lastly, a splendid bit of thanks to the now late Don Knotts for his splendid cameo as the high strung enlisted man in this film. RIP Don! ... Read more

In "The Witches Are Out," Darrin (Dick York in both episodes) is fired afterrefusing to use a stereotyped old crone witch in an ad. So Samantha andfriends spook the client with protest signs and tricks until he gladly calls off his "discriminatory" campaign. Quick. Before "Roseanne" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" what television series made a point of having great Halloween episodes. Why, "Bewitched" of course.Collected on these VHS are the two Halloween episodes from the first two seasons of the series, which means we are still on the first Darrin and the shows are still in black & white:5-0 out of 5 stars true classics

Universal Pictures made a great deal of money from its monster movies in the 1930s. In the early '40s, the burlesque team of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello kept the studio's coffers full. When the two franchises were combined in 1948, the result was another windfall--despite the apparent oil-and-water mix of subject matter. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware!
For any of you teachers out there who plan to watch this in your classroom with your students:BEWARE!!First of all, I've heard of taking "liberties" with a book but this is ridiculous! Sex between Farmer Jones and the neighbor farmer's wife is not in the book, but sure is shown in the movie.I was shocked to see them rolling under the sheet as the headboard was "knocking against the wall". Utterly revolting and embarassing for me and my students.I expect better from Hallmark Entertainment, Family Home Entertainment, etc...
3-0 out of 5 stars not that bad
I have read a number of reviews that are upset that the ending was too optimistic. But there is a reason for that. Remember that Animal Farm was at least partially based on the Soviet Union, and when this movie was made (1999) the soviet union had fallen and it looked as if we had new hope for a democratic russia under the leadership of borris yeltsin. So to have a more optimistic ending (that George Orwell would have never in a million years written) is not that bad of an idea and it follows russian history. But after 7 years we see that things are not that optimistic. Borris Yeltsin had to leave office because his alcholism made him unfit to rule a country (disturbingly like Mr. Jones). Now a former member of the KGB is in charge of russia. Furthermore the entire world is now starting to enter a war that seems to be unwinnable with goals that are at best ambigious and may very well be unachievable. Hmmm all of this is starting to remind me another Orwell book, that could be made into a bad TNT adaptation.

    4-0 out of 5 stars i don't get it
I don't understand. How is it that so many people thought 1984 the movie was a masterpiece and yet they didn't give this great film the time of day. This movie is as good as 1984 (the movie) was bad. This is a perfect example of what communism really is, a good idea that could only work in a perfect world because hay, people (and animals apparently) are corrupt. Theirs a reason they say absolute power corrupts absolutely. People are selfish, and this is why communism must always fail, because people don't like to share and like being forced to share even less.

The third season was the charm for one of HBO's gold standard series, which earned its first Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series to go along with its Golden Globes for Best Comedy Series and Best Actress (Sarah Jessica Parker). The writing is as sharp as ever, with more trendy product placement than a Bret Easton Ellis novel and ribald banter that's a cross between the Algonquin Round Table and the Friars Club. One of this season's two principal story arcs concerned hapless-in-love Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and her pursuit of a husband; enter (if only...) Kyle McLachlan as the unfortunately impotent Trey. Meanwhile, sex columnist Carrie has a brief but memorable fling with a politician who’s golden, but not in the way she anticipated. She then sabotages her too-good-to-be-true relationship with furniture designer Aidan (John Corbett) by having an affair with Mr. Big (Chris Noth), who himself has gotten married.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sex and the City 3 season
I needed this DVD to finish my collection of this series, so that in it's self says that I like this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilariously Funny and Engaging
Sex and The City just keeps getting better and better! They deal with serious and uncomfortable issues in a comedic way that anyone can appreciate. The plot line is engaging and addictive. There's not one other show I currently watch or have ever watched that I have been so dedicated to.I found the trials and tribulations of these single women very amusing yet at times true to life.Everyone should give this show a chance, you just may be surprised.

4-0 out of 5 stars abbott and costello at their best.
i'm not really a big follower of abbott and costello, but this particular film stands out from a lot of their others.
5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE TEAM'S BEST
Chuck Murray and Ferdinand Jones (Abbott & Costello) are two bumbling service station attendants that are left as the sole beneficiaries in a gangster's will (William B. Davidson). They inherit an old abandoned speakeasy, his only possession. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Time With Bud and Lou
This very fun and funny offering from Bud and Lou ranks as one of their best. A great cast and good story, along with two very nice numbers from the Andrew Sisters make Bud and Lou's third entry from 1941 a pure delight. When Bud and Lou lose their good jobs as waiters in a fancy nightclub, they go back to pumping gas and end up in the car of gangster Moose Malloy when he bites the dust. His will leaves everything to the last people with him at his death. Since that happeens to be Bud and Lou, and a lot of bad guys want their hands on a fortune he has hidden, hilarity isn't far behind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great VHS
I found this along with a couple more "Best of" tapes at a local Wal-Mart for only $3.88 each. This tape is great well worth the price.I loved the Clinton sketches.

5-0 out of 5 stars Boy, all of history should be this funny!
Darrell Hammond's "Bill Clinton" and John Goodman's "Linda Tripp" have to stand as two of the funniest comic performances even done on the long-running television show.4-0 out of 5 stars It was alright.
