5-0 out of 5 stars ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease.....
I have just about worn out this videotape. It is one of the few video cassettes that I still own, simply because it cannot be replaced on DVD (yet). If you like cartoons and have not seen this, it is a MUST! Oh please, WB, release these fantasic shorts uncut and in all their glory on DVD! Please! Please!
5-0 out of 5 stars Tex Avery....on dvd, but NOT in the USA!!!!
Why is it that one of the undisputed grand masters of american animation does NOT have any of his work on dvd in the united states ?????This is such an incomprehensible feat of omission by Warner who owns the rights to practically al of his greatest work that I just can not get over it!!!! Indeed, a marvellous boxset, with extra's, of 63 of his best cartoons has been issued by this studio....but ONLY in FRANCE!!!!They think of Tex Avery as a genius over there and so warners cashed in on his fame....in the USA there seems to be the idea that nobody will buy a boxset of Tex Avery cartoons I guess.....In these days when every piece of trash that has ever appeared on tv or film gets a ultimate collection boxset the work of this genius, these hilarious works that were so far ahead of their time get not even a nod in their own country!!!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Pure animation gold. Needs to be on DVD!
Why, oh why is this not on DVD?! This is a fantastic colection and should be on DVD (with lots of extras) for every one to enjoy. The toons are classic. I can remember seeing many of them as a kid. Some of the gags are a little dated, perticulaly those made during the war years. How ever, over all this was some of the best animation ever produced.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Midlander's Review
Being from Midland you might say I'm a homer and thus have a bias towards this movie. This movie was literally made at the very end of the oil boom period - in fact many of the companies' whose name appear through out the movie had gone out of business by the time it was released (that's how fast the bust hit).Terry Jastrow (who is from Midland) and his real life wife Anne Archer are great opposite each other on the screen while Mary Kay Place provides great commentary on life in Texas Oil Business.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Texas movie
This is a good Texas movie. My dad was a Land Man (secures the leases to drill) so I grew up in this milieu. Two guys really can bring in a well if the pay is not too deep. All of the high school guys in oil country worked as roustabouts (general labor) or rig hands during the summers. When two guys get together, we discuss who missed what block or who jumped offside before we talk about women. Some of the minor characters in the movie have the names of real oil men and women.Good stuff.

4-0 out of 5 stars Man's Man Deflates Stuffy Scientist: It Must Be Love
Nicely observed portrait of West Texans at that moment when the traditional individualistic ways of the maverick wildcatters collided with the more sophisticated, play-it-safe high-tech future. Story comes wrapped up as a romance between real-life husband-and-wife Terry Jastrow and Anne Archer.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Running Cool shows what most people dont know!
This movies shows what most people dont know. The bond between biker brother & sisters. The bikers standing up for what is 'right'.Most people think that all bikers are OUTLAWS.Well, after seeing this movie, you will see bikers in a whole new light.Good acting, good story-line and Great looking 'scoots'.A definate for your "BIKER" collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars if you want a sexy leading man...
This is an amazing action movie about bikers.Andrew Divoff is so incredibly sexy!Watch the movie just for him! It's got a romantic story, action, cool bikes, and a great storyline overall.Definitely agreat watch!Again, Andrew Divoff is amazing. Not too many guys look soamazing in a pair of tight jeans. His buddy, Bubba, while having anexpansive waistline, and lots of tattoos, has a very big heart.Buy thismovie!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bikers Get A Break
I thought Running Cool was a great movie.Bikers are always being displayed as outlaws. This movie comes together to show how bikers stick together as a family. The language is a little foul, but if you can lookpast that you will find that not all bikers are bad. They are everydaypeople just like you and me. You also have an added humor along with aromantic love story in here as well.It goes back to the old saying"You can't judge a book by it's cover". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful message
What a wonderful piece of work. I love to watch and rewatch this movie. It really has a powerful message about having people in our lives who may not be able to function like everyone else, but that is exactly why they are so loveable. You can learn a lot from them if you listen and watch.Mr. Erman really got the point across. The cast was incredible.

4-0 out of 5 stars daves review
I think that this movie was put togeather really well.I think that Courtney Vance did a remakable job in bringing the role of lucien to life.i feel the artist is trying to show us that no matter how diffrent we are we all go through life altering problems. i have to say that this piece was worth the time ofthe drictor and crew. i felt that the mood of the movie was hared to chew than others for example when berries dad almost hit him it made me really mad but i came out of that state when lucien, norman, and arnold got toride the trian. The theme of the moive is one that I will never forget do not juge people no matter how diifrent they are from you because you will alwys be diffrent from the next person who comes along your path. the plot of the moive of the movie is the arument betwwen jack and his wife. the movie is one filme i could see over and over agin.

3-0 out of 5 stars Film's Heavy-Handedness Loses Graces of Stage Versions
A viewer unfamiliar with the original stage production won't realize how much was lost in transitioning this story to the (small) screen, but playgoers will be intensely disappointed with the script revisions to Tom Griffin's original story, which equally emphasized the joys as well as the sorrows of these four men. This film version is a surprisingly humorless tale, made unnecessarily darker by the screenwriters' need to snow-shovel "substance" and "meaning" into every scene. In the play, for example, the visit by next door neighbor, Mrs. Warren, is played strictly for laughs, but in the film the humor of the situation is de-emphasized in favor of stressing, as it does ad nausium, both the barriers "the boys" face and the mounting pressures placed on their caregiver, Jack.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Has its moments, but too implausible and heavy-handed.
What I liked about this film was the theme of self-discovery and this wounded woman making time for herself. Also, you cannot totally dis a film with the achingly handsome Raoul (forget his last name, but he played Marcello.)I am a chick-flick loving female and he was just gorgeous, even when he was dumping her.
3-0 out of 5 stars "Never lose your childish enthusiasm, and everything will come your way."
(3.5 stars) Based on the captivating memoir of author Frances Mayes, this fictionalized version of her story becomes a completely different creation--far more romantic, more predictable, and more obvious than the memoir. Here in the film, Frances, recovering from a devastating divorce, accepts a ten-day trip to Tuscany from two friends, leaves the tour group, and discovers and buys an abandoned villa. With her own imagination and the help of an inexperienced Polish crew, which has the predictable number of construction disasters, she renovates the old villa, always hoping that some day there will be a wedding, preferably her own to the perfect man, and a family to give life to the old place.
1-0 out of 5 stars Misses the Mark
Bottom Line: If you loved or even liked the book, this movie will most likely be a great disappointment to you!As another reviewer rightly assessed, obviously the screenwriter could not make enough of the book as it stood (no fault of the book) and therefore made liberal changes of great magnitude to the point where the two have little more in common than a villa in Tuscany. The film does not capture the spirit of the book, which is that Frances and her best friend Ed are so comfortable in their mutual love and lives together that their joie de vivre naturally extends to the villa, transforming it from a shambles to a beautiful piece of antiquity, as well as to their new surroundings in Italy (the town and people of Cortona). To their great joy and surprise, Italy embraces them as well. The book has nothing to do with the Diane Lane character, who spends most of the film looking for love in the wrong places (or crying over love lost due to poor choices), while restoration of the villa and discovery of her new surroundings become a dim backdrop to her own shallow escapades and the problems of her girlfriend (both figments of the screenwriter's imagination). What a shame that such a beautifully written book got lost in this poorly written and acted film. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best comedy duo of all time.
I have seen alot of great comedy movies, and I was blown away by how great David Spade and Chris Farley were together. I thought this was going to be an okay movie but I found out that it was a great movie. One of the best comedies of all time. I loved how they always had David Spade there to make an inteligence, or a fat joke. This is a great movie that everyone should see. I have to say I was laughing throughout the whole movie. It really is a shame that Chris Farley did drugs, other wise he could still be here today.

5-0 out of 5 stars "BLACK SHEEP'S" Evil Twin...
Although "Black Sheep" is a funnier movie, in that it has more vintage Farley/Spade humor, this film has a better-written story-line, at least I think so. But the two films are VERY similar, in premise and script. The Farley-Spade chemistry is evident throughout; Spade's dark, caustic wit, played off of Farley's over-the-top performance, is a non-stop journey through a story which, although a little hard to believe in spots, is a little uplifting. The sadness over the death of the father (Brian Dennehy) gives the story a serious tone, and Farley's character, sitting in his sailboat, talking to the wind, telling his father how much he'll be missed, shows him as a sensitive, albeit immature, man who really loved his father, and wants to make him proud.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great movie!
There are so many funny moments in this movie by the end you will still be laughing about them all. I first saw this movie when I was ten. I only understood the slapstick humor. When I watched it again when I was thirteen it was triple the hilarity!

4-0 out of 5 stars "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"
I was one of the few that actually saw "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". Not because of any affinity for Hunter S. Thompson(who I had never heard of before; forgive me I was fourteen), but after seeing this movie, which is best described as a "flawed masterpiece", I immediatley became a fan of the man, as I am still a fan of this movie.
2-0 out of 5 stars Long and Boring
Long on loathing. Boring, I fear. This trip was at somewhere I've never been, and I don't want to go there. A place beyond the event horizon. Who could care less about these people? Great title for a book, or a film, though. For some reason I've given it an extra star. I don't know why. Perhaps because it definitely belongs in anybody's collection of bizarre movies. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Texas Two Step
Once a year, for 16 years, the richest men in the territory gather for the biggest event of the year. It's 2 fisted action in Laredo, but no guns are needed as the big event is the annual poker game. They gather behind closed doors in the town's hotel/saloon that caters to rowdy cattlemen. There's nothing more important and a 12:30PM sharp the game will start.
4-0 out of 5 stars An ace in the hole, suitable for most any audience
Superior acting from an all-star cast would alone make this one a winner.Add a novel story line with continual twists and turns, nonstop action, and glimpses into human nature elicited through a big stakes poker game, and you end up with one of the best westerns ever filmed. The only negative surprise is how few people -- even movie buffs -- know about this one.The industry should make it available in DVD, but the VHS sound and picture quality are as close to DVD as anything I've seen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mythic Fable of Norse Mythology... with a demented twist.
It's what you have come to expect from the guys from Monty Python. It's silly, irreverent, and utterly strange. Erik the Viking is a light hearted dark comedy, and even though that sounds odds those of you who have seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail or The Life of Brian will understand. This will never be called a masterpiece of cinematography, acting or special effects. Then again it's not meant to. The movie does accomplish what it sets out to do.

This is such a great movie! Probably considered a "chick flick" but my husband will sit and watch it too. It's just really nice to see a high powered businesswoman such that Keaton plays suddenly be placed in the position of raising her cousin's child. It's a wakeup call too for those of us who love the busy businesswoman's life and how much time it actually does take. It's just nice to see her leave a high-paying job in a "boys club" atmosphere and buy a house in the country. When she goes back to same company for a business opportunity, each employee remarks on how great she looks, probably more rested! It's an inspiring movie to watch and very nice to just sit back and not think for awhile.Great movie and I highly recommend it! ... This was a very short season because of 9/11 and its impact on The City. The episodes are all very good, with excellent character development and the usual witty repartee, but unfortunately there are only 8.If you are new to the series, start at the beginning and work your way through in sequence -- it's worth it.If you are an afficionado of the show, unfortunately you'll have to pay the price to own this season despite its shortcomings. But for the sake of completeness, it's a must have.

5-0 out of 5 stars "If (it) didn't happen exactly this way, it should have."
Another "made-for-Showtime" original movie that wildly exceeded expectatations (see also my review of the Patrick Stewart vehicle "Safe House"), "Elvis Meets Nixon" details the two days in December of 1970 when Elvis Presley, for reasons known but to himself, left his home in home in Memphis, Tennessee on his own for the first time in his adult life, criss-crossing the country to Washington, DC, then to Los Angeles, CA, and finally back to DC for a meeting with...President Richard Nixon.5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for Elvis lovers and nonlovers alike.
I just recently saw this movie with a group of friends, some die-hard fans like myself, and others who know very little about Elvis. This movie was great! Everyone enjoyed and laughed out loud at the absurdity of the reality these two men lived in. Both were so out of touch with everyday life... they were destined to find each other in this truly ironic way.
5-0 out of 5 stars "You can't make this up..."
Of course, most of it is an "artists impression", but based on what everyone knows about these two men with many eccentricities and very strong personalities. Bob Gunton does a great Dick Nixon and Rick Peters does a really good Elvis, minus the singing voice. The factuality which the story is based on is the letter Elvis sent to Nixon which is fantastic itself and the photo of Elvis in the purple cape suit with the President in the Oval Office - proof that the meeting did occur.

I think this movie is a real hoot!Marilyn Monroe is a genius at playing dumb!Jack Lemmon is hilarious in drag and often steals the show and Tony Curtis is...um...well, beautiful! The movie is funny, entertaining, witty and charming. When Jack Lemmon is torn between being a man, AND a woman too, he becomes confused and its extremely funny; his delivery is perfect! Lemmon's performance is comic brilliance!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Funny
Some Like it Hot is #1 on The American Film Institute's Top 100 Comedies. This should be a good thing, to be on the list I mean, but to be #1 is almost a curse. It will subject the film to endless comparison and bashing, which the film may or may not deserve. Let me just start by clarifying this. Is this the funniest film ever made? No. Is it the most entertaining comedy ever made?
5-0 out of 5 stars A Whole Different Sex!
What a true film classic this movie is. Recently voted the funniest American film ever in AFI's poll of the 100 Funniest Movies, it never fails to disappoint. The paring of Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon is pure magic. Each may not have been Billy Wilder's first choice for their respective roles, but one cannot imagine anybody else playing them now. As for Marilyn Monroe, she is the fragile, beautiful heart of the entire film. Her Sugar Kane is tragic, funny, sexy, and adorable all at the same time. I read how some of her lines had to be written out and displayed for her to read out while filming, and somehow this doesn't take away at all from her performance. She WAS Sugar Kane, always reaching for but not quite getting the sweet end of the lollipop. Jack Lemmon almost takes the entire movie as Daphne, his female alter-ego. How subversive this movie must have seemed in 1959, when a top male star could be seen reveling in his feminine side! As with "Sunset Boulevard" and "A Foreign Affair", the true strength of the film is the cast. Each person was letter perfect in their role. All of Billy Wilder's films should be essential viewing for any film buff. What he had was a true eye for talent in his acting roles, demontrated again and again in all his films, the knack for knowing who to put in what role. How many potentially great films have been hampered by questionable casting? It is a true gift, and not many really have it. This truly set Billy Wilder apart, and helped him turn this outrageous story into the classic it is now. Get this film for your collection, you won't regret it. ... Read more

Garry Marshall's 1988 drama about a 30-year friendship between two women, one wealthy (Barbara Hershey) and the other (Bette Midler) seeking her fortune in show business, is well written (based on the novel by Iris Rainer Dart) and nicely textured in its contrast between the characters' separate destinies. When Hershey becomes ill with cancer, the film takes a predictably sentimental course, yet Marshall brings out the best in both actresses and catches some very fine drama. The film is a little too long, perhaps, but overall it is a fine experience.Read more

This is a great album to have, the fact that there are only ten songs on it doesn't bother me at all (I have this album on all three formats: LP, cassette tape and CD). Every song on this soundtrack album is worth many listens, especially "Wind Beneath My Wings", which I believe is the most memorable song on here (and my most favorite song of hers). I also love "Oh Industry", with its weird sounding intro, instrumentation and lyrics. The final song, "The Friendship Theme", which closes out the album, is great as an instrumental, a piano being the only instrument played in this song. "Otto Titsling" has got to be the funny title on this album, as funny as the scene in the movie that this song is heard in. "I Know You By Heart" is excellent, with Bette dueting with David Pack. "Baby Mine" is soft and sweet with Bette's beautiful voice blending so wonderfully with the piano. "I've Still Got My Health" is fine with its jazz sound. "I Think It's Going To Rain Today" is great, too, but has a little bit of a sad sound to it. "Under the Boardwalk" is great. I heard the earlier version of it (I don't know who the vocalists were on it), but didn't like it too much. Bette's version of this song is more enjoyable with an upbeat sound; the other version was bland and too mellow. "The Glory of Love" is great to listen to as well. When Bette's character sings it at the end of the movie, it's really touching to see her raise her hand and wave to Hillary (Barbara Hershey's character) in heaven. So, for those of you who are big fans of Bette Midler, I strongly advise you to buy this movie and get the soundtrack album as well. No Bette Midler music library should be complete without this title. Get them while you can!!

... staying together trough the good and the bad. I wept for the entirety of this film. Funny thing though, it turns out I had been sitting on a tack.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic soap about lifetime friends
My best friend used to joke that I was Bette Nidler and that one day I'd be watching him die.Weirdly, it worked out that way.We both loved this film.Like the classic soaps of earlier days, they pulled you in and won you over and then

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun family film
This movie is one of my kids' favorites. In fact, it was the first live-action movie my older daughter could sit through, probably because it's pretty cartoonish live-action. The nice thing is that grownups can stand to watch it, too. It's very silly, of course, but there are lots of funny gags, many of which go right over the heads of children. There's a little bathroom humor, but what else would you expect in a movie with talking gorillas and an elephant that plays fetch? Best of all, from my point of view, is the fact that perfectly-cast Brendan Fraser spends a good portion of the movie wearing only a loincloth.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disney Doesn't Get It
When will Disney ever learn that people could care less about Pan and Scan any more and that Widscreen editions are outselling 4:3 ratio by large margins. They could have at least provided both versions on one DVD. Top marks for this campy movie, zero stars for Disney.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Hidden Gem
Christmas in Connecticut (1945) starring Barbara Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan, Sydney Greenstreet, Reginald Gardiner, and S.Z.Sakall is an amusing story of lies, deception, and love. In short all the elements needed for a fluff comedy. Ten minutes into the film an experienced movie watcher will be able to predict almost every element of the plot. 4-0 out of 5 stars Sydney Dances a Reel!
This romantic comedy is a must see if only for the sight of that most cosmopolitan of screen villains, the rotund Sydney Greenstreet, dancing a reel with Barbara Stanwyck. Not only does he dance but he also laughs, smiles, relaxes, and rescues a kidnapped baby. Greenstreet, cast against type as a media mogul and the merriest of gourmands, manages to steal this picture away from its top-billed stars, Stanwyck and the sweet-faced Irish tenor Dennis Morgan. And he does it without appearing as Santa Claus.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Romantic Comedy for All Seasons
Despite the holiday setting, this romantic comedy is watchable all year long.Unlike other "Christmas classics", you don't need to be in a sappy or nostalgic holiday mood to enjoy it.Barbara Stanwyck is at her most charming as Elizabeth Lane, the working city girl who pretends to be Martha Stewart-like for a popular column she writes for a woman's magazine. Her need to put on an act for her boss and a navy soldier during Christmas sets the stage for a wonderful screwball comedy. This film is an excellent showcase of Barbara Stanwyck's comedic talents and the supporting cast is equally superb.Even Dennis Morgan, a handsome and serviceable but generally unmemorable actor, manages to make an impression as the navy man.Highly recommended, but not just for Christmas.
