5-0 out of 5 stars DVD!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Love Stories Ever!
I am 36 year old and saw this movie when I stayed home sick from school 20 year ago.I loved it so much at 16 that I bought the VHS tape.To date, this is one of my favorite movies.I have forced many of my friends to watchthis movie only to have them say that they loved it!Horst Buchholz has got to be one of the best looking sexiest movie stars of that era.I just love him.I'm so sad he is gone. The cast in this movie is outstanding. There is humor, anger, love and happiness all in one movie.Buy it!You won't be disappointed!
5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST!

3-0 out of 5 stars Get your Robin Williams fix somewhere else
Okay, I think we can all agree: Robin Williams is a brilliant actor and comedian. However, the message behind this movie is a bit immature; this tries to put a positive spin on divorce, which maybe just can't have a decent positive spin at all.If you actually follow the story, yes, the wife should be able to get a divorce; the husband's attempts to thwart their divorce would have been much better spent trying to win back the favor of the wife. And it's not that funny. If anyone could make it work, it would be Robin Williams, but not even he can make divorce funny. If you're trying to help a kid through their parents' divorce, maybe watch this one.Otherwise, look for Robin Williams as the Genie in Disney's Aladdin or as Batty in Fern Gully, for something fun that all ages enjoy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Gay!Gay!And more Gay!
This is a stupid video! The movie is all around lame and gay. What in the heck were the producers thinking when they put such a dumb... video out like this?Who knows?Plus Robin Williams cant act anyway.I wonder how he even became an actor because all of his movies are stupid except for Flubber. That is the only decent movie he's been in but if youre looking for true comedy then look for;Bernie Mac.Now he is funny.Or Jim Carrey he is funny too.But not Robin Williams. Now he's lame!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Doubtfire is Special
My kids love this movie. Each time it come on network TV, they are glued to it; it is one of those movies I just don't mind them watching, and it has taken me over a year to locate it for them. Now they each have one and will receive it for their birthdays this year. Thanks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars DVD please!
It would be a tribute to the late Chris Penn to release this classic film on DVD. If not...it's casual.

4-0 out of 5 stars NOT a sequel to Fast Times, but still an excellent slice of 80's.
In high school, I watched this movie every time it was on and it is still entertaining 22 years later. People assume this is a "sequel" To Fast Times At Ridgemont High. It was written by Cameron Crowe (who wrote Fast Times) and stars Chris Penn (Sean's brother). It was directed by Art Linson (who produced Fast Times) but it IS its own film. I like to think of it as a companion movie to Fast Times. What happens immediately AFTER high school? The Wild Life tackles that question and does a great job at it. The character of Jim (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) was me in high school. I was 15 when the Wild Life came out, so Jim was the character that I could relate to the most. I lived with my single mom and sister. I was obsessed with Vietnam (and WW2). I also wore camouflage pants to school about 3 days a week, hated authority figures and hung out in a bowling alley (as well as the mall arcade). The other characters are also interesting as well, but Jim was just the one that "clicked" with me. I assume Cameron Crowe based these people on real life versions just like he did with his Fast Times script and chances are, you will relate to someone in this film. I have always liked Eric Stoltz and in this he plays the straight guy to Chris Penn's obnoxious character. They work well together, but it's a friendship of necessity not choice. This is a much more serious film than Fast Times but still has some great, funny moments. Cool soundtrack with ORIGINAL songs by Bananarama and Eddie Van Halen. Release a dvd Universal. Don't underestimate the fan base for this film! A whole generation watched The Wild Life on cable over and over again. Release this movie ASAP as my VHS tape is getting haggard.

Editorial Review

Molly Ringwald established herself as the teen queen of the '80s in this fresh comedy. The movie is a day in the life of Samantha, whose 16th birthday is turning out to be anything but sweet. All the traumas of teendom come down on one long day, which sees Samantha surrounded by dithery relatives, mooning over a high school hunk, and pursued by a sawed-off Lothario. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ageless
I don't expect anything more of a movie than to enjoy it and be entertained. I don't seek to psychoanalyze or offer up in-depth critique, it's only a movie. I either enjoy it or I don't. I laugh as hard at this in my 40s as I did in my 20s, it's just a hysterically funny flick!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply an enjoyable show
This isn't the type of movie that will make you reflect and question your life's ambitions, it's designed to make you laugh. I think it succeeds admirably. Molly Ringwald is perfect as the budding teenager ready to have life meet her full-force. She is surrounded by a quirky, forgetful family (complete with a jerk for a younger brother), nerdy boys desperate for her attention, good friends with whom she can be herself, and (naturally) a love interest. Anthony Michael Hall's character is as funny a dorky kid as I've ever seen...his dance moves are legendary! He has several monologues that still bring out genuine laughs from me, even after all these years of watching this classic.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Movie From the 80s
Molly Ringwald stars in this classic movie about coming of age and high school crushes.Ringwald stars as Samantha. Her sixteenth birthday just happens to be the day before her sister's wedding.Unfortunately for Sam, everyone has forgotten about her birthday due to the stress of the upcoming wedding.Sam's house is overflowing with relatives who have come in from out of town to attend the wedding. Both sets of grandparents have arrived, and Sam has been kicked out of her room. One set of grandparents have brought along a Chinese foreign exchange student whom they have been sponsoring. His name is Long Duc Dong (Gedde Watanabe). Sam's grandmother seems to think it would be a good idea for Long to accompany Sam to her school dance, so off they go.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than "Charlotte's Web" by a long shot!
Trust me, "Babe", although written and filmed later, was much better than the other major pig movie, "Charlotte's Web". What are the highlights? How do they dominate those of the 1973 so-called "timeless classic"? Allow me to explain.
5-0 out of 5 stars A new Fairytale!
I simply adore this movie. It is a modern fairytale. Watching it for the 1st time was like being immersed in a magical land..
4-0 out of 5 stars A Tasteful, Nice Movie You'll Like and Your Child Will Learn From
I saw Babe figuring it would be cute, not knowing much else about it.It is a very nice movie, not insulting but also--interestingly--not depressing, in its sadder parts (Maa the Sheep namely). The border collies are so much like my own that I was immediately entranced.(They live, so don't fear being depressed, dog lovers!)The movie is well filmed and very tasteful, old fashioned but somehow it never in any way beats you over the head.Babe is a cute pig and a symbol of ironic good luck if there ever was one.Without gloom, the movie bluntly addresses the fact that he might just as easily have wound up on a human plate. The plot seems a bit simple and does leave a huge opening for a sequel, in that we don't see Babe grow older or have a major life change.James Cromwell is always a fine actor and his near-silent Farmer Hoggett neither oozes compassion nor meanness.A really nice touch is the subplot about the male border collie's past, how he lost most of his hearing. We also get to see a busload of baby border collies frolic and question Babe.It took me back to two litters of Labs I raised in my twenties. The movie may make you cry but it never lingers on its sadder themes and ends up leaving a satisfying feeling...though it seems rather short. The ending is obvious but only suffers from an abrupt "The End."I haven't seen the sequel but probably will, especially if it has the collies and Cromwell in it!You want to know what became of the characters.Don't be surprised if you give up pork after this movie.Whoever devised the tale seems to drive home the point that pigs are far too intelligent and feeling to be food.Personally, I can't eat pork, and this movie reminds me of why! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars God didn't put us here to spend our lives in cubicles!
When I first saw this little film, it was aired on Comedy Central with none of the fanfare that it should have received since it's initial release. In fact, Office Space has reached cult status for a reason. It's funny, witty, and always makes you laugh. The cast includes Jennifer Aniston in a supporting role as the waitress/girlfriend of Ron Livingston's character who has an epiphany during a group therapy session. Alex Wentworth plays his girlfriend in her shorter role. Anyway, I don't remember the man who plays the Arab employee and friend of Ron's character but he should be applauded for his role. Newsradio Stephen Root should have his own sitcom for his performance as Milton, the poor picked on employee who reaches a breaking point in the film. Diedrich Bader plays the neighbor next door who offers wisdom to Ron's character in the film. Mad TV's alum Gregory Herman plays another colleague and computer geek. Another Mad TV alum Orlando Jones plays a guy selling magazines door to door. HE turns out not to be the person you think he is. Gary Cole has a memorable performance as the boss who thinks he knows it all but doesn't know anything. Movies like Office Space make me understand what we have become for those of us in the office. Imagine, if we just didn't have to work anymore. That would be heaven for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Off the Hizzy!
This movie is made for the DVD format.Repeat viewings. While some may call it over rated, and unfunny, those would be individuals who do not know the definition of funny. Please consult Wester's dictionary, available for sale at this website.
5-0 out of 5 stars FUNNY AND DELIGHTFUL COMEDY
"Office Space" is a very funny comedy. Many parts of the film were a delight. In the beginning, when everyone is stalled in traffic, I knew the feeling. Working at Initech Corporation as a computer programmer makes for one dull job in the life of Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston). Besides having a job he hates, he is enclosed in a cubicle as everyone else is. Then there is his boss Lumbergh--an arrogant jerk. Life for Peter Gibbons is just one boring day after another. That is until he decides to go see a counselor at the suggestion [and demands] of his then girlfriend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Sex Comedy From Kenneth "Shakespeare" Branagh. Hilarious, And Inspiring Comedy-Drama. NOT For Children.
Kenneth Branagh's follow-up to his enormous smash hits "Henry V" and "Dead Again" is a British sex comedy again featuring his then-wife Emma Thompson and Stephen Fry in the title role, with himself and Ms. Thompson as two of his friends. Hugh Laurie ("Prince Ninnybrain" in Season II of "Blackadder," Mr. Palmer in "Sense & Sensibility" (also starring and scripted by Emma Thompson), TV's "House," etc), Imelda Staunton (Margaret in "Much Ado About Nothing," etc) and Alphonsia Emmanuel round out the "Friends" in the cast of this wonderfully entertaining sex comedy from Kenneth Branagh. Refreshing change of pace after Shakespeare ("Henry V") and film noir (the Hitchcock-laden tribute suspense thriller "Dead Again"), precluding his all-star films "Much Ado About Nothing," "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein," William Shakespeare's Hamlet" and "Love's Labour's Lost." DO NOT watch this movie if you do not like (or are not used to) British comedy. You WILL be in for a VERY RUDE awakening; colorful, to say the least. Rated PG-13 for strong language and sexual references.
5-0 out of 5 stars Six stars
This is one of the single best movies I have ever watched. The writing is brilliant. The acting is fabulous.Emma Thompson dropping her robe and telling Stephen Fry to "fill [her] with his babies" is one of my favorite cinematic moments of all time. I hope this comes out on dvd soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely surprise
I had read several negative reviews and so was prepared for the worst, but the fabulous performance of Hugh Laurie in TV's "House" convinced me to give this film a try.The movie was wonderful: heartfelt, funny, sad, hopeful and exasperating. All the things real friends are.As expected, Laurie was grand as were Fry and Branaugh, but also deserving of mention is the wonderfully droll performance of Phyllida Law, Emma Thompson's real-life mother, as the wise cook. ... Micky O'Neill (Adrian Dunbar) is a born salesman. As the booker of the local theater/dance hall, he is famous for hiring almost-celebrities like Franc Cinatra. When he is unable to tell his girlfriend (the beautiful Tara Fitzgerald) that he loves her, in so many words, she storms out of their bedroom. In order to win her back--and curry favor with her mother, not to mention keep his job--he decides to book famous tenor Joe Locke, who's wanted by the government for tax reasons and hasn't performed in decades. So begins Micky's quest to find the reclusive singer--and himself. The movie is so enthusiastically cheerful, it wins you over early on with its good-natured energy, and then never lets up. 5-0 out of 5 stars I Keep Hoping This Gem Will Come Out on DVD
Every once in a while, I check to see if this movie is out on DVD yet.And I'm still disappointed.I rented this years ago, and it is rollicking good fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite
This is one of my top-10 movies. I've seen it maybe 12 times, and the laughs are guaranteed every time. Offbeat in that inimitably Irish way! Why no DVD yet?

3-0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Romp
I have a fondness for quirky little films, because they are usually made by some of the best new film makers of their day. Hear my song is a perfect example of a greatlittle film. It is all about the journey. And the journey is the life and soul of the story. As a mater of fact I never wanted the journey to end but alas, it does and I was disappointed with the ending. Perhaps had there been a real singer, (other than Ned Beaty) or someone who had the strength of character to play the singer (Brando, Nicholson, Connery) to carry the roll. The end of the film is built up so much through-out the film that when it happens it's a let down. But this is a great romp through the Irish countryside and the life of a theater booker.

An excellent, excellent, excellent movie. Anthony Quinn should have won the Oscar. Anna Magnani is at her best. And Hardy Kruger underrated as always is the German officer who still has a humane aspect. A true delight of a film

"I've never seen a woman who was more like a man," a character observes of Vienna (Joan Crawford), who has just opened a saloon that hasn't exactly endeared itself to the local townspeople. Emma (Mercedes McCambridge), the local sexually repressed, lynch-happy harpy, is particularly displeased. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Intercultural Communication in ESL
I'm teaching college level Japanese adults who have an upper intermediate level of English and virtually no experience in studying films. The course is Classics ofComedywhere humoris so difficultto understand.Students look forward to a class where theycan enjoya movie, laugh, and learn why they are laughing. This filmfits that criteria.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you liked SCARY MOVIE ....
I saw this movie 20 years ago and thought it was hilarious. It drags in parts and gets a little wierd at the end but if you've watched the older horror classics, e.g. Halloween, Carrie, you'll appreciate the jokes and humor. This movie was the prequel to movies like Scream and Scary movie.
4-0 out of 5 stars over the top cheesy, bizarre
this one is actually a guilty pleasure of mine and certainly not for everyone. you really have to be into 80s horror comedy cheese to even slightly appreciate what this film offers. its kinda a horror spoof intended to scare children a bit while being a bizarre comedy for adults. you realize right from the beginning that this movie is not intended to rival The exorcist or win academy awards. just a fun movie for fans of 80s cheese. I find the fathers sarcastic wit and negligence hysterical. The scene at the end when van helsig goes against the vampires for the bookof evil is classic horror comedy. totally over the top, cheesy , and nonsensical all the through. The daughters bath scene is mandatory and she looks quite nice semi nude as well. Nice shots of her legs and cute feet hanging out of bath tub. good movie for hardcore cheese lovers only.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute!
Okay Saturday the 14th is not the funniest comedy movie ever made but I still liked it. It's just a cute enjoyable movie with some cute humor that satires horror movies and it has a good cast, Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss play a husband and wife and are married in real life and they were good in the movie as was Kari Michaelsen who is probaly best known as playing Katie, the eldest daughter in the sitcom Give Me A Break and underrated character actor Jeffrey Tambor was good too. 4-0 out of 5 stars It's a wonderful film and I highly recommend it.
Two girls are left with their grandmother after their mother drops them off at her home. She raises them until her death and ends up with their unique Aunt Sylvie. One sister, Lucille, wants to leave her and her sister because she wants something different than they seem to do. She wants a more conventional life that Aunt Sylvie can't provide. The other sister, Ruthie, is similar to her aunt and doesn't mind Sylvie's quirky ways. But townspeople can't mind their business and steps in to see Ruthie is raised how they think is correct.
5-0 out of 5 stars Appealingly Honest
There are movies that I hardly remember 6 months after watching and a few that stay with me forever.Housekeeping is one of the latter.I'm hard pressed to say exactly why that is.You've gotta' love the Aunt Sylvie character.Perhaps we all long to be that carefree and unconcerned with the demands of conventional society.Maybe it's a sadness felt for the two sisters, so close after being orphaned at a young age who gradually drift apart as one is drawn to a conventional life and one to Aunt Sylvie's.Whatever it is, the film strikes a chord in me that few movies do.It's an honest story with real and appealing characters played with sensitivity and bitter-sweet humor, never for cheap laughs.Maybe that's what people who love this film are drawn to.Whatever it is, for me it has a haunting appeal that hasn't dimmed with repeated viewings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why is this not on DVD?
Why is this not on DVD?This is one his best performances! He is a genius, so fast and funny. I am really amazed that this is not available on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nasal Jeopardy . . . !!!
Don't drink milk while watching this video unless you like it shooting from your nostrils!Funniest Williams before or since!

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Concert!
My only complaint about this video is the "sentimental" stuff at the beginning and end, though there is none of it during the concert itself. In many ways, this is my favorite over "Live At The Met", made 4 years later. I can't tell if Williams is on drugs during this performance, but if he was at the time, it just made him funnier. He interacts a lot with his audience here, kind of the way he does with 1988's Salute to the Improv. This is Robin Williams at his comedic peak, and is a must buy for a fan of his stand-up shows. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lucy in Her Funniest Movie
Two years before I LOVE LUCY debuted on television, Lucille Ball starred in this hilarious movie opposite William Holden as a hopelessly incompetent secretary who is quite oblivious that the real estate office she works at is just a front for a bookie.Lucy was starring in the popular radio comedy MY FAVORITE HUSBAND at the time and she had made a number of successful comedy films, notably AFFAIRS OF ANNABEL and EASY TO WED, but she never had as good a showcase for her wacky innocence before like MISS GRANT.Alas, the video is now out of print and no DVD appears on the horizon but hopefully the movie will resurface. And let's hope Columbia uses a better print than they did for the video release, this one has several scratchy scenes of mediocre quality yet I am still satisfied for the chance at seeing this extraordinary comedienne in full bloom and on the eve of something really historic.

3-0 out of 5 stars 3.5 maybe
Lucille Ball stars as an inept secretary who is hired to work as the receptionist at a crooked real estate company -- this gal's so dumb she couldn't possibly figure out what the real racket is, think the thugs. However, her character has hidden talents, not the least of which is the ability to win a man's heart. (The man in question being William Holden, who's running the bookie joint behind closed doors.)A slight, but enjoyable screwball comedy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wm. Holden in Lucille Ball's funniest pre-I Love Lucy movie
If you were wondering why big Hollywood star William Holden showed up on a classic episode of "I Love Lucy," the answer would be this 1949 film.Lucille Ball plays secretary Ellen Grant, who is hired by a bookie gang headed by Dick Richmond, played by Holden, with the Civil War serving to set up the cute title.Miss Grant is supposedly less than bright and so the idea is she will serve as an innocent front for their real-estate office, while the real business happens in the back. The problem is that Miss Grant is not as dumb as she looks and she becomes quite concerned about the homeless. The next thing Dick knows he is promoting a low-cost housing project.Of course Dick and his cronies play with the books and steal all the money, leaving Miss Grant to take the rap. This farce is a perfect vehicle for Lucy and Holden, who had been making mostly westerns, shows he can do light comedy.Directed by Lloyd Bacon, a lot of the credit for "Miss Grant Takes Richmond" belongs to the writers, Nat Perrin, Devery Freeman and Frank Tashman who keep everybody loaded with crisp dialogue and flip remarks.Lucy also has some physical comedy gags involving construction equipment and mud. This might not be a great comedy but I certainly do not see much wrong with it. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Worse than Bad
This movie is silly at best, racist at worse. I can't believe Ice Cube actually wrote the script for this mess. My opinion of Ice Cube has been drastically lowered. It's the old black jiving and shucking all over again. This movie has all the classic black stereotypes. It even has a scene where Smokey gets so high that he ends up in the chicken coop thinking he's a chicken. Remember the old minstrel shows?: "nobody in here but us chickens." There's noplot to speak of, just a bunch of insults, getting high, stealing money, potty jokes, black people knocking each other upside the head. Some character get punched out, and Smokey (Chris Tucker) goes over and yells in his face, "Dude, you been knocked out!" That's a typical "joke" from this movie. How about a dogcatcher getting bit on his behind by a dog? Hilarious---Not. After watching this dvd with my family, we tried to think of one funny or worthwhile scene, and we couldn't think of a single one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic movie for kids 6 and above !! The cat and dog are great!
Great movie for kids; the cat (Mrs. Murphy) and the dog are great. My 6 1/2 year old daughter loved it!!! Good Disney Fun!

2-0 out of 5 stars Shallow and a Big Disappointment
I am a huge fan of Rita Mae Brown's "Mrs. Murphy" mysteries, so I was understandably excited to watch this movie.Unfortunately, the producers of the film changed many of the characters personalities. Some of the changes were minor (Blair Bainbridge was a doctor, not a model; and Susan Tucker now owns a cafe) but some were unforgivable in that they changed the character's basic nature and made them so shallow they were one-dimensional.Considering that Rita Mae Brown's greatest strength as a storyteller is her in-depth characters, this simplifying them was really quite insulting. For example, Cynthia Cooper was somehow morphed from a tall blonde to a short black woman whose main purpose in the film was to serve as a comic counterpoint to Rick Shaw -- who lost his moustache and was changed into a stereotype of a bumbling county sheriff. This was not the fault of the actor, who tried his level best with what the writers gave him and by sheer willpower rescues any dignity Rick had left after the writers were done with him.
1-0 out of 5 stars Why, oh why . . .
The fact that this movie has a nice cast just can't save it from the usual Hollywood stupidity. They started with a perfectly good story, written by Rita Mae Brown and as part of her Mrs. Murphy mystery series, and changed it almost beyond total recognition. These books are not great mysteries, but they are always charming, full of great character development, and quick to read. The changes made in translating the story from the book to the screen were totally unnecessary, and especially jolting when you consider how many people have actually read the books. Why the producers felt they had to change the story, change the characters and their backgrounds, and many other things is beyond comprehension. This sort of thing should not happen, but it does much too often. When will Hollywood learn to listen to people who watch their movies? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best baseball movie
This is truly one of the best baseball movies of all time. Humor, love, social issues of the era. It's got it all.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best movies take forever to get to DVD
Anybody who claims that "Bull Durham" or "The Natural" is the greatest baseball movie ever made, has obviously never seen this early gem from HBO pictures. But I have seen it and it is the best baseball movie ever made. It's bawdy, rowdy, belly-laugh hilarious AND it's about baseball. It doesn't take itself too seriously and everyone has a grand time. It also says a lot about a movie when you care more about the characters than whether or not the film has a happy ending. (Anyone who's seen it know what I mean.) But, alas, my VHS is worn out and I DON"T HAVE A VHS PLAYER ANYMORE!!!!! But 2007 will be it's 20th anniversary; I'll probably have to wait until then...Sigh.....
5-0 out of 5 stars Pure Baseball
Long Gone is simply the best baseball movie ever made.True baseball fans and those who understand the nuances, humor, and character of the game would undoubtedly agree. The movie will leave you with a feeling of baseball purity, joy, and a longing to go to the yard. ... Read more

Remember the outfit Cher wore to the Oscars when she won an Academy Award for her performance in this 1987 film? Ay-yi-yi. The actress' more retiring character in this infectious comedy leaps several psychological hurdles just giving her hair a permanent. 1-0 out of 5 stars Never got it.
Placed an order from your OTC Business (shampoo), never recieved it; however, on the plus side; I was kept informed of the situation.
5-0 out of 5 stars A timeless favorite!
I bought this DVD to replace my aging VHS version. Cher and her family are hilarious in this love story of New York Italians living on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The late Vincent Gardenia is perfectly cast with his grim facial expression and his own serious fantasy of a little extramarital fling. Cher as the Cinderella character and a very young Nicolas Cage as her Prince Charming is skinny, has some hair, and waxes poetic on the trials of love. Olympia Dukakis is superb as the wise, yet cynical mother and the whole story will leave your sides aching from laughter and even a few tears.
