I bought this movie, because a family member had seen it years ago and liked it.I watched it once and it was very funny there were several sexual referances in the movie coming from Ann-Margret but you can tell that by the cover.Funny as is was, at timesyou felt like you were watching the same things over and over again.I wouldn't watch it with young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Villain 1979
Hes dressed in black from boots to hat and and hes twirling double iron . His name is "Cactus Jack" slater and hes THE VILLAIN . Kirk Douglas (1916- ) stars as the neer-do-well highwayman in this screwball gunslinger comedy co-starring Arnold Schwartznegger (1947 - )as handsome stranger andswedish actress Ann-Margret (Ann-Margret Olsson 1941 - ) as a lusty Miss Charming Jones . Charming father Parody( Strother Martin 1919-1980) has sent her on a risky overland errand , providing crooked banker Avery Simpson ( Jack Elam 1918-2003) with the perfect chance to double-cross Parody out of a silver fortune and when Simpson offers to buy Cactus Jack out out of the Snakes End Jail if hi hell do the dirty work , Cactus Jack schemes to double-cross the double-crosser . But his plans are foiled when Arnold Schwarzenegger weigh in as Handsome stranger . He owes Parody Jones his life , and thepayback is pure pistol-poppimg laughter as the blue-eyed do-gooder does his duty : Protecting the loot and the lady with a white-hatted paladins good luck . Ride along with a horse named Whisky and an allstar cast featuring Paul Lynde (1926-1982) as THE VILLAIN plots to outsmart handsome with slapstick determination . A raucous western spoof that proves you cant judge a cowboy by the color of his hat . High Quality Transfer . Recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars You would enjoy this movie if. . .
If you like good clean humor, you will love this movie. It is so funny and also entertaining. It's about a cowboy and his horse, and the horse almost talks. It's also about a seven shot, six-shooter (can you believe it). It comes in handy at just the right time. It's also about a naive cowboy, who does dumb things and doesn't even know they're dumb. So, for an entertaining time, purchase this dvd. It's well worth the money, and the time spent watching it. I'm sure you'll love it as much as we did. Happpy watching!!!!!!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Once Upon a Time.
Even though most high schools in the country have very little resemblance to the high school in TEACHERS, there is a savage inequality that exists in how our schools in the United States are funded. This realization didn't take place until the early 1980s and TEACHERS was made and released just as the debate over unequal education was starting to rage.
4-0 out of 5 stars Where is the DVD?!?!?!?!?!?!
They do not even show this movie on cable...I have been waiting patiently for this to come out. Especially since I and pretty my whole graduation class (Franklin Heights High School) is in this movie. The movie was filmed at the old Central High School in Columbus, Ohio. A casting call went out to all seniors, 17 years and older in the early fall of 1983. We went there four hours a day, three days a week, for about six weeks, it was awesome.
4-0 out of 5 stars It's closer to being a good film than a bad one . . .
Most of the other comments, pro and con, have their points.I agree with many of them, pro and con; it's a matter of degree in most cases. And that in turn is a matter of taste or opinion; "beauty in the eye of the beholder" and so on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ethel May Potter- We Never Forgot 'Er!
This is a great video that showcases the genius of Lucille Ball in her first television series, "I Love Lucy (CBS, 1951-1957)!5-0 out of 5 stars Wrapping candy, fake nose on fire, having a baby and more!
This second volume in the "Best of 'I Love Lucy'" collection begins with two of the show's classic comedy moments."Job Switching" (Episode #36, September 15, 1952), is the classic episode of "I Love Lucy" that I always show to my television classes so they know what a classic sit com looks like. Ricky is tired of the way Lucy spends money without regard for where it comes from, so the boys and girls switch places: Lucy and Ethel will get jobs and Ricky and Fred will do the household chores. One of the greatest moments in television history comes when Lucy and Ethel have to work a conveyor belt in a candy factory. Elvia Allman is the supervisor ("Let 'er roll!") and Amanda Milligan, an actual candy dipper at the Farmer's Market in Hollywood is, uh, the candy dipper. Meanwhile, Ricky is ironing stockings and making rice while Fred bakes a cake. "L.A. at Last" (Episode #114, February 7, 1955) finds Lucy and the Mertzes heading for the famous Brown Derby restaurant while Ricky heads to the movie studio to begin working on "Don Juan." Here is where Lucy has her legendary encounter with William Holden in the booth behind her. Tired of being gawked at while trying to eat, Holden decides to stare at Lucy instead, making her so nervous she end up setting her false nose on fire. To set the record straight: Lucy getting her nose on fire WAS in the script, but her decision to dunk her nose into the coffee was an AD-LIB (she was supposed to take the nose off before dunking it).Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting to note...
It's symptomatic of middle-age, I suppose, to reflect warmly on "the good old days", and even though I never wanted to fall into that syndrome, seeing "Help" has done exactly that for me. I was a Freshman in college when the movie was released, and so it was a movie for the millions of Boomers like me, in that bizarre, wonderful time that was the mid-1960's in America.
5-0 out of 5 stars YAY!! :D
This was the best movie that the beatles did it was funny and had a bit more of a plot this time. 'in the weeks that followed five more attemts were made to steal the ring.' Quite frankly my favorite attemt was number four he,he. But in 'another girl' we can only wish that Paul would wear that tshirt more often. and my stepsister finally realized that there are more rasons to like the beatles than their music. That is before John turned into mountain man\amish terrorist anyway.
4-0 out of 5 stars Please restore "Help!" for DVD
Though not the landmark that "A Hard Day's Night" was, this film is still a lot of fun, and for current and future generations shows how the Beatles looked and behaved in 1965, in full color (in fact, the color cinematography is striking throughout--should have been nominated for an Oscar).

3-0 out of 5 stars Foreseeing PC Dystopia
A cautionary tale of political-correctness taken to its logical extreme in a leftist dystopia that enforces "equality" and no one is permitted the freedom of achievement or failure, since everyone is made to have the same ability ---whether they like it or not.Mediocrity and standardization are enforced on citizens by a totalitarian socialist government of well-meaning know-better elites (who are of course exempt from their own rules) until one young man rebels and threatens their order. In the vein of Orwell's "1984" or Animal Farm, this is a classic allegory for left-wing authoritarian hyprocrisy and supression of the individual's identity in favor of the "group."

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny results of America's communist revolution !
This is a funny dark sci-fi comedy based on Kurt Vonnegut's short story, an anti-communist allegory exploring the ultimate result of a communist revolution in America. The new subjects are required to submit to various handicaps to make them all "equal," including bands to stupify their brains, leg weights, etc. Of course it turns out it's all enforced by an elite class led by Christopher Plummer (The Sound Of Music, Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country).
3-0 out of 5 stars A freak chance never to be lived down
I haven't seen this film in ages, but I remember it being an impulse rent from a family member who has yet to live down this particular event.Essentially, the family felt the movie was pretty bad, bad enough to be the top reason we don't let anyone impulse rent a movie they've never heard of for fear of witnessing a cataclysmicly bad movie.I give it three stars because while watching I knew that it was a story that would make a great short story but was not something that could be properly transferred to film...and I was pleasently surprised to find out recently that it was indeed based on a short story as I felt lo those many years ago.Now I must go hunt down the short story, because unlike the presentation in the movie, I found the idea behind it fascinating and very much look forward to seeing the idea portrayed in the medium it was meant to be in.

During its release, this was the most popular film of all time in its native Italy. A typical Roberto Benigni comedy of mistaken identity, this 1991 work stars the actor-director in two roles, one a tough mafioso named Toothpick and the other a meek bus driver who is the gangster's look-alike. When the bad guy's girlfriend comes on to the clueless innocent--and she brings him along to her Sicilian villa--the slapstick madness rolls into high gear. Benigni really is a very funny and often remarkable clown, and he employs his usual physical gags in great and gratifying abundance. His script's inspiration reaches several peak moments when the mysteries between light and dark doppelgangers are suggested. One could reasonably call this sort of Jekyll-and-Hyde tale the closest Benigni has yet come to making his version of Jerry Lewis's Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great News!
While Paramount Home Video has successfully marketed DVD packages of I Love Lucy, Warner Bros. Home Video is now getting into the act with a package that includes the only two feature films Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz starred in together, The Long, Long Trailer in 1954 and Forever, Darling, in 1955. A third movie, Too Many Girls, produced in 1940, stars Ball in the leading role and Arnaz in a bit part. The two reportedly met on the set of the film, fell in love, and married a few weeks afterwards

5-0 out of 5 stars PLEASE put this hilarious classic on DVD!!
What a fantastic pairing of the classic Luci & Desi comedy team, even while "I Love Lucy" was still airing before live audiences. An initial fun point was the change of 'Lucy & Ricky' to 'Taci & Nicky'. Both my parents and I saw this aired on TV, and laughed so hard we were repeatedly wiping our tears as Taci fell out the tilted trailer into the mud, was tossed with the salad while Nicky serenely drove the pitching trailer, & "hold-your-breath" CLIFF-hanging suspense as the trailer was just inches from the precarious edge!

Editorial Review

Remember darlings, "Life's a banquet, and most suckers are starving to death." That tag line sums up this exuberant and immensely amusing 1958 comedy that can be seen repeatedly, as it never grows stale. Rosalind Russell plays the flamboyant aunt who takes in poor, orphaned Patrick, played with sophisticated ease by Jan Handzlik. Mame, all glitter and martinis, raises her nephew in a world filled with acceptance and her oddball literati friends. Nothing is too bohemian. This unfolds in colorful episodic segments that allow us to watch Patrick grow as Mame oversees his unusual upbringing while she juggles a few spouses and an extended household. Russell, who created the title role for the stage, simply shines. She is bright and brassy, but never goes too far over the top. Peggy Cass is a comedic delight as her befuddled secretary, and Coral Browne brings class to the production as her best friend. This was based on the exuberant stage play, which in turn was based on Patrick Dennis's humorous, bittersweet novel. The screen version was written by the clever duo of Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Not to be confused with the pathetically lackluster musical version starring Lucille Ball (1974), simply entitled Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Only Mame for Me
I remember watching this movie as a child falling in love with Rosalind Russell from the very first time, in her role as Mame. Who doesn't want a slightly whacky, eccentric aunt? I love this version of Mame, and it's the only one I own. However, my mother prefers the Lucille Ball version, and when we decided to watch Mame together, she wants her way, and I want mine. Rosalind Russell is the only Mame as far as I am concerned, and she plays the role well. It was made for her, and for her it will always be. This is one of my favorite lines from the movie!

1-0 out of 5 stars My most upsetting and disappointing childhood video!
Between my brother and I we are able to agree on one thing, Frankenweenie being the most disappointing film we have ever endured as children. Two boys looking forward to our once a week Fry's grocery store movie rental decided on this film to entertain us that evening. Can you imagine how we felt after 27 minutes of a black and white movie at the ages of 7 and 9, or there about. Here is two young boys mostly interested in aliens and other random violent movies and we get stuck with this. So after this raving and built frustration over the last, almost, 2 decades I have decided to purchase this movie and send it to my 23 year old younger brother. Hope he enjoys the randomness and love his older brother will always feel for him. Love you Devren.

5-0 out of 5 stars A dog with nine lives
This "Frankenstein monster" film by Tim Burton is a perfect model of compact and compelling storytelling; it brilliantly distills into thirty minutes what normally takes two hours. Frankenweenie is about love, acceptance, and redemption, and it's got a good moral. It's in black and white (which looks great!), it's funny, and, for younger children, even a little scary. Frankenweenie is my hero! (P.S. See if you can spot the clue that Frankenweenie has nine lives)

John Waters's goofy, 1990 comedy about a Baltimore girl (Amy Locane) who can't decide if she should remain "good" in her 1954 world or hang out with the motorcycle boys is funny in a scene-by-scene way, but doesn't quite gel into the grand piece the director was hoping for. The cast is exceptionally likable, however, including Johnny Depp as an Elvis type and Iggy Pop as a chattering loony. The best material is set in a fringe world of bikers and losers on the outskirts of town, and Waters writes some hilarious sardonic dialogue for the characters. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Set In the 50s Since Grease!
"Cry Baby" is the coolest movie since Grease that deals with this time period. The songs are good and the actors in the film are really excellent. I'm a fan of Johnny Depp, and he came through in this movie and him in a lead role set in the 50s worked! This movie is not only a movie that takes place in the 50s, but it feels like a movie that was made in that decade as well. Everything that was big in the movies during that time are seen and used in here. I really enjoyed how this film also dealt with issues people had then and the way people acted and thought.
4-0 out of 5 stars Campy...cute
Sort of like Grease/Outsiders gone crazy.Good movie and performances.I had no idea Johnny Depp could sing.I enjoyed the "jail house rock" spoof, and the music is great. Not a GREAT movie though, couldn't touch Grease or American Graffiti. But it IS worth watching.

4-0 out of 5 stars Waters Gets Wet With Cry Baby
John Waters who likes to be called the "Pope of Trash" has done a lot of films that are outrageous in style such as "Cecil B. Demented," "Pecker," & "Hairspray." "Cry Baby" is a 1990 musical that is utterly silly and frothy, but works nevertheless. Johnny Depp, now a big box office draw and critical success with Oscar nominations for "Finding Neverland" & "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," can be proud of the rockabilly Elvis-type singer he plays named Wade "Cry Baby" Walker. Depp performs his "Jailhouse Rock" type number with great energy and rebellion. Having him run through sewage pipes in his underwear is enough to set many a teenage girl's hearts aflutter. The female lead is Allison played by Amy Locane who worked in other films like "Airhead," "The Mummy" & "Bongwater." She does a good Olivia Newton John-like "Grease" character of the square girl who has a crush on Depp's bad boy. Stephen E. Miller who was recently seen in "RV" with Robin Williams and previously in "The Accused" with Jody Foster does a good job as the square boyfriend Baldwin who loses his girl to Cry Baby.

Editorial Review

No film better utilizes Audrey Hepburn's flighty charm and svelte beauty than this romantic adaptation of Truman Capote's novella. Hepburn's urban sophisticate Holly Golightly, an enchanting neurotic living off the gifts of gentlemen, is a bewitching figure in designer dresses and costume jewelry. George Peppard is her upstairs neighbor, a struggling writer and "kept" man financed by a steely older woman (Patricia Neal). His growing friendship with the lonely Holly soon turns to love and threatens the delicate balance of both of their compromised lives. Taking liberties with Capote's bittersweet story, director Blake Edwards and screenwriter George Axelrod turn New York into a city of lovers and create a poignant portrait of Holly, a frustrated romantic with a secret past and a hidden vulnerability. Composer Henry Mancini earned Oscars for the hit song "Moon River" and his tastefully romantic score. The only sour note in the whole film is Mickey Rooney's demeaning performance as the apartment's Japanese manager, an offensively overdone stereotype even in 1961. The rest of the film has weathered the decades well. Edwards's elegant yet light touch, Axelrod's generous screenplay, and Hepburn's mix of knowing experience and naiveté combine to create one of the great screen romances and a refined slice of high society bohemian chic. 5-0 out of 5 stars As Charming as A Classic Can get!
Breakfast at Tiffany's... If you haven't seen it, then you must have heard of it in some way. You have heard the title somewhere, you read about it at someplace or maybe you have heard the famous musical theme by Henry Mancini? Yes, it's hard not to have heard of this classic masterpiece in some sort of way.
5-0 out of 5 stars delicious
Blake Edward's masterpiece isbright, funny, intelligent, and thoroughly winning, thanks to his deft direction and the singular presence of its stars.Stunningly gowned by Givenchy, Audrey Hepburn makes the part of Holly Golightly completely her own, and is so captivating, one couldn't care less how greatly the film differs from Truman Capote's much darker novella.George Peppard is her praiseworthy partner in his most memorable role.To better complement his spirited co-star, he plays Paul Varjak quietly, radiating a natural humor, pride, warmth, and grace. With astonishing blue eyes, perfect hair, cardigans, tweed jackets, and penny loafers, Paul is achingly handsome and infinitely desirable.
5-0 out of 5 stars An amazingly beautiful, sad film
The sight of Audrey Hepburn, dressed immaculately in a black dress, wearing large black goggles, holding a danish pastry in one of her hands and a coffee in the other, looking wishfully, enchantedly into the window of Tiffany, joins forces with the extremely beautiful yet melancholy background score by Henri Mancini to set the tone of the movie. Quirky, witty, modern, fashionable, yet flowing over an undercurrent of unexplainable sadness.

Editorial Review

This 1995 family film tries to put a fun spin on the story of a paranormalist and widower (Bill Pullman) who moves into a new house with his daughter (Christina Ricci) and meets up with the ghost of a dead little boy. Based on the comic book about Casper the friendly ghost, the film is a dreary series of awkward interactions between live actors and computer effects, and you can almost see Pullman and Ricci reconsidering the project while on camera. A few cameo appearances from uncredited stars help things a bit. But there's no way, based on this film, that one could have guessed that its director, Brad Silberling, would go on to make the exceptional drama Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars CASPER NOT AS SPIRITED AS CARTOONS
There's nothing really awful about this big budget version of the classic comic/cartoon series; there's also nothing really great about it either. In transporting the friendly spook into the modern realm, we get okay effects and a few laughs, but nothing to earn it classic status. This time, Casper and his naughty trio of friends haunt an old manor recently inherited by a greedy woman and her cohort.A treasure is supposedly hidden within its walls, so she hires a ghost "shrink" and his precocious teenage daughter to rid the house of the spooks.Kids will probably find it amusing, although there is some strong language and sexual innuendo.Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci try gamely to make it work, and they're adequate but it's really Cathy Moriarty in her best Cruela Deville impersonation who steals the acting honors.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fun to watch
I was surprised to find Casper is as fun to watch now as it was when it first came out. It's actually a very entertaining film with a good cast, althought the non-human characters steal the show. I enjoyed watching Casper's uncles Stinkie, Stretch, and Fatso. 3-0 out of 5 stars Shhheeeessh

4-0 out of 5 stars Why no rerelease of this sweet family movie?
The synopsis of the movie: An eccentric toy company magnate (voice of Vincent Price)dies and wills his estate to the winner(s) of a strange Scavenger Hunt. The family members and servants form teams to obtain odd things like an ostrich, an authentic suit of armor and the "worlds fattest man" each of which is worth a number of points. The movie is very amusing and great for children and adults.
5-0 out of 5 stars Much like "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World".
I remember seeing this in the theater while in High School. The whole movie is a laugh out loud riot. They don't make them like this anymore.Full of great comedic actors from 1979.Rare appearances from Ruth Gordon, Vincent Price, and many others add to the fun.Cloris Leachman has her funniest role since Young Frankenstein.Like the other reviews, I too am suprised this classic comedy has never been released on DVD.This has caused the few VHS copies left to become quite expensive, and that's if you can even find it avaliable on VHS.It can only be purchased used right now.I highly recommend the movie, but you'll need some luck finding a copy of it anywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC!
How this movie hasn't made it to DVD is beyond me.I saw this when it first appeared in the theaters and I've been watching it since it was released.Liz Torres - "You stole an ostrich?" - to Ruth Gordon's "I Pearl Harbored the mothers" and Richard Mulligan's "Brp, Brp, Brp" as he danced his way along the hall wrapped in gauze!I try not to play it too too often as I don't want to wear it out....but it's such a great feel good movie. And you just want to smack Georgie and Mildred. If you haven't seen it - rent it.If you can BUY IT! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Better than 34th Street
I love this movie. Every year there is a 24-hour marathon on the television of this film and my family and I watch it at least ten times. It truly never gets old with us as the characters are authentic and full of good humor. It is hysterically funny at times, especially when the father receives the leg lamp in the mail and pronounces the word stamped on the box "fragile" as "fra-gee-lay; huh, must be Italian". Ralphie and his family make my family's holiday a lot brighter and we all look forward to watching this movie every year.

4-0 out of 5 stars Darren McGavin's (and Pete Billingsley's!) best. A fine film that recaptures that period well!
"You'll shoot your eye out." How many
5-0 out of 5 stars I need to stop laughing, it hurts too much!
This movie is downright hilarious the whole way through. In this story, Ralphie, who is 9 years old, must convince his parents and teacher what the perfect gift for christmas is. At first, he hesitates, and when he asks, its always the same answer: "Oh, no. you'll shoot you're eye out!" Raphie stops at nothing to get what he wants. He would not even listen to the teacher when she gave him a C on his "what i want for christmas" paper and told him it's a bad idea. He didnt even listen to who he thought was the real santa.
